I'm thinking about getting an Xbox360

I really shouldn't be giving advice like this because I'm probably the last person who is likely to follow it. For example, earlier this month I spent $70 on a German flak vest just because/for airsoft.

Sounds cool. I've heard rumors that you can play games on it too, so that's always a plus.

If you're going to get a console, get a 360, BUT bear in mind that the next generation could be here in a year or so, so you should just weigh up whether or not it's worth spending that on a console that might be outdated relatively soon. Then again, the next generation might be much further away and not have backwards compatability, so eh.

To be fair, Microsoft is pretty good about supporting a populuar platform well into the next one, case in point Win XP during the 7 days.

If you've got the money to spend and don't have other financial responsibilities, go for it. If you settled for a regular 360, you could probably save a good bit of money. Especially with Holiday bundles coming out (I think Skyrim comes with one, but you've probably already played on PC...), you could get a relatively good deal. If you buy Xbox Live, search Amazon. You can usually find it for $35-$45. But as Tilius said, popular opinion is that the next generation is right around the corner...

Add me too. I just got a 360 again, so I'm trying to rebuild/build a friend list. You will love the purchase if you do indeed buy it.

Thanks for the responses guys. A few things:

-I don't have anything else to spend the money on, it's been sitting in the bank

-As for next gen possibly coming out soon, I had considered it, and doubt Microsoft would announce anything before next E3 at the earliest, which is months away

-I looked at other bundles, but I want Halo and 2 controllers; also the others all come with Kinect (which I'm not interested in) or games I don't want

-I won't be getting Xbox Live, at least not right away

I would also like to point out the PS2 and PS3 transition as a sign the 360 support isn't going away 100% for awhile:

Because the PS3 switched to Blu-Ray, developers kept putting out a PS2 version of a game at the same time, and the next-gen Xbox is almost figured to be digital media based only (or close to it). It is possible that many developers would probably still release a 360 version on disc just for the time-being (maybe the new console would have a disc drive attachment for backwards compatibility, or built-in, or two models who knows) just to help ease the transition.

Another factor to consider when getting Live is you can't play online with buddies without Gold membership (fortunately you can sign up and have friends in just the Silver) or use the Halo Waypoint service.

Again, looking forward for you signing up for it.

I know you need Gold to play online, but I'm more interested in local co-op than online multiplayer.

I don't know if I want to pay for something I may not use frequently, if at all. I guess I won't really know if I want Gold or not until I get an Xbox.
