Update the Filter

This goes hand-in-hand with the advertising policy, which has to be updated before changes to the filter can be re-evaluated.

Some of the filters are just silly though. I'm for getting rid of those before the advert policy updating.

For example, "moderator." I understand that it has to do with policy and stuff, but not many people really know why it is filtered, and to them it's just silly, especially to those of us interested in modifying (modding) our favorite video games.

Do NOT bypass the filter. -B6

These filters are unnecessary in 2012 and only get in the way. I remember discussing a certain movie in COT but it got filtered. Also the typo in the latter is driving me insane.

Very much in favor of this. As an author it's incredibly annoying when I have to edit a sentence when I use a word that is at the very worst a childlike and light curse, and isn't even a curse in that context.

I'm actually kinda curious as to what those are, Dral. Of course, I'll never know until I find out the hard way, lol.

Agreed; very outdated.

Also there seem to be too many mild words filtered. Someone may say "You're acting like a #####", and while that may not be the nicest message, the filter makes it even WORSE and more harmful. It's self-defeating. I feel filters like this need to only cover actual profanity. Grouping everyday acceptable words into the same filter only makes things worse.

Also "moderator" needs to go. I see people talking more about game modding than fellow BIONICLE sites. It's just getting in the way.

Maybe remove some old leet filters too. Thankfully speaking like that has fallen out of fashion years ago. That also makes it a low-prority fix though.

Don't forget "cool dude", too. Come on, that word is used more in fanfics, especially comedies, than as an insult.

"Cool dude" I can handle (if only because it doesn't get confused with swearing) but I agree that its inhibitions on literature is a problem.

Not really, just a little; there are at least two words that can be used instead that don't sound bad at all.

Hey, at least screw isn't blocked. On some video game servers with word filters, people get kicked for talking about everyday fasteners.

Recently, some work has been done on this. Many of the leet words that were previously filtered have been removed as well as some websites that are now defunct. We will continue to evaluate and tweak it as we have time.

When I was a noob I once tried to type the short of modification but you know what happend, I then tried to bypass the filter(sorry for the noobiness ) adding a ".". Later I found out about the word filter and it's rules. So maybe it's better for the new users if certain words(the video site, the moderator, and other stuff) are replaced with something like this: The word/link you just typed was deemed inapropriate for Bzp and was filtered out, please read this post about the filter rules(link to the guidlines filter part). Do not in any occasion try to bypass the filter! This will make new members directly up-to-date with the word filter and will help older members to remind tha rules

The hacker inserted that as a joke, but I think "Bionicles" is no longer filtered and the staff fixed it.

Also, the site-with-the-videos should go.
 
I mean, it's just thing of common sense if a video is inappropiate or not, and varies from person to person too.
