Funny you should post this. This morning, as I was pulling into a one lane drive entrance on my way to work, there was a large bus parked right smack dap in the lane, completely blocking traffic. This area also happened to be a fire lane.
Students at my university were guilty of parking in fire lanes as well. Rather than park at proper locations and walk to their dorms, they tend to park in front, at the fire lanes, turn on their emergency lights, and leave their car there. This is frusturating because our dorms were, fairly frequently, the location of real emergencies. Just once I wish one of them would have gotten towed or cited... but I guess having their e-flashers on makes that difficult.
So, yeah, there are lots of reasons not to park in fire lanes so barring an emergency... please don't do it.
*steps off soapbox*
My dad once had to run into a grocery store for a few odds and ends, so instead of parking my mom and I just rolled around the parking lot for a while before idling in front of the store.
Little did we know, of course, that one of our tires was about .02 millimeters into the fire lane. We only knew after a police officer came up and was profoundly rude about the whole thing.
While I'm not entirely sure, I'm fairly certain that later saw him in a commercial for a satellite TV provider.
