This makes sense.

It makes a ton of sense. But, does that mean that half the people making games nowadays are not expert gamers? That would make a ton of sense too. =P
No, it means there's more process involved in making the games, including bringing in external testers who are not super-familiar with each nuance to see how they do when playing.

Also they realized gamers are lazy and want to win easily. :P

"See the thing you gotta realize about games in the NES days is that lastability was even then a big issue. Games were anywhere from $30 to $60, and that ... is steep. You can’t pay for that ... with your ... lunch money. The NES cartridge didn't have a lot of space so developers had to mind their limits, but also try to make a game that lasts a long time so people felt like they got their fortune’s worth. The easy out at the time was to making a game frustratingly hard. [WOAH ...] Most of the time it was in cheap ways. [HRNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG] But Castlevania took a step in the right direction."

That's one reason, but there are lots of reasons he doesn't mention. One I know of is the legacy of arcade cabinets. At an arcade, there was a quite justifiable emphasis on making it easy to lose a game fairly quickly: the arcade gets more quarters, and everyone who visits the arcade gets a chance to play. Because of this, even after home consoles became trendy, the expectation was for games to be easy to lose; a game that was difficult to lose might have been considered sub-par.

The amount of truth in this statement...

Man this makes me miss some of those Nintendo hard games. Most games are too easy these days.
