Just look at Twilight's face. That is a face that has witnessed a thousand horrors and expects to see a thousand more.

Gosh, those outfits are neat. Twi's argyle socks/leg warmers (hard to tell exactly what's going on there) suit her nicely, as do RD's absurd high-top sneakers. The cutie marks on the faces are a bit odd, but still quite creative.

Overall, while I can't say I'm too certain about how well the show/possible toys will do (certainly not as good as MLP:FiM, I'd wager, just by virtue of being derivative), I think a lot of people are judging this really harshly just on account of it being aimed at making money. If these designs were fanart, I think people could agree that they were somewhat clever, even if they didn't like all the design choices. However, as officially-endorsed designs they get treated as a cash-grab and a corruption of the franchise.

I still really like their designs and am pretty interested in seeing how Equestria Girls will be.

Lisa Frank married MLP and they had their honeymoon in the Uncanny Valley.

Well I do like that they have horse ears now.
