Oh my.

So, uh, who feels like making a merry band of people to carouse around the island getting drunk for all of next year, for no reason other than the fact that it would be fun?

And, like, we'd be too busy having fun with all of our crazy characters carousing around and getting drunk beyond belief to be mad at, and argue with, each other?

I think that would be awesome.

If this doesn't work, nothing will.

Perhaps I could direct you to a specialist in the area?  His name is Lohkar...

Yes, Tyler, I'm back.

Rawr. :3

Ghostie, see, he'd have to be willing to join the group. Maybe capture a ship to make into a floating pleasure palace?

And yes. I'm completely serious.

In addendum: Joske and Heuani are staff characters, and their masks (Conjuring and Felnas, respectively) broke tons of rules. Would you complain about them?

-Tyler

I sense some tension here. I dunno, maybe it's just me reading between the lines, but it sounds to me like you've had to deliver this counter-rant before...

[/isnottryingtopickafightpleasedon'treadthataspickingafight]

Regardless, I hate to play politician but I understand both sides. Draezeth is just noticing special "perks" and is slightly fearing these perks (in this case, "special masks" that seemingly no one else in the game will ever get access to) will make them become gods in the eyes of the (I use this term lightly) "little people" whose bidding shall be carried out by any who oppose their rule lest they be smitten by the wrath of their god powers.

...That was a hyperbole. Please understand that. Got it? Good.

On the other hand, Tyler, Visaru, and Snark (forgot your preferred alias; apologies) are trying to stress that they EARNED these masks through hard work and what sounds to me like a tedious, tedious process that some of them were lucky to live through [/hyperbole]. They're also putting emphasis (Tyler from a personal standpoint, being ONE of the people with said special masks in question) on how they have SHOWN they will not abuse their hard-earned privileges.

Now, my personal take on this is kinds shaky. Sure, I'm new so my opinion on this matter can probably be cut down right there simply because I haven't gotten to see too much of how this game works. If that's what you think, you can just skip on past this comment, because this does not concern you. Now my actual opinion...well, yes I get that they seem to have earned the right to these "perks" through a planned-in-advance process that took weeks of cooperation, contesting, and processing. However, I can also clearly see how it's kinda-sorta pushing the envelope in terms of player equality and rule enforcement.

To give a very loose comparison, it's like the concept of "killstreaks" in the Call of Duty games (I told you, it's a very loose comparison. Just hear me out on this). Basically, "Players go around and kill enough opponents without dying ["playing the game well"] and they get an advantageous 'perk' that makes them even better at what they do so they can kill even more opponents to get even more perks!" The analogy can be expanded even further by addressing MW2's notorious "Nuke" killstreak, which automatically ends the game, all because some lucky little player managed to play the game so well against all odds. Wouldn't you say they worked awfully hard to get sooooo good at the game to earn the rights to be able to do this?

So yeah, that's just my personal take on it. Hate all you will, I understand your logic, I'm just saying what I feel. Not complaining or anything, just making a point.

Behind this sucky post count, a writer and hardcore RPer lies in wait of a reason to post...

For those who will likely ask when reading some of my non-RP posts: for me, "*shot*' = "I know that what I said was something stupid and I am acknowledging this before people think I'm serious."

Oh yeah, and my current BZPRPG character bio can be found here.

"Why...me? Oh yeah, that's right. I'm weak. I'm of a minority, a minority of people with a common trait: we hear too much. And what we're supposed to hear hurts to hear. When I'm alone in a silent room, I can hear a pebble dropping from a mile away. I can hear a motor boat being started up several yards off the coast. A whisper from outside, I can hear as if they were talking right at me. An explosion in another koro, I hear as if it's just outside. Sounds useful, right?"
"Wrong."
"It's a curse, if you ask me. The same pen dropping inside this aforementioned silent room would ring in my ears. If I stood by the same motor, I'd get a headache. The same whisper would ring in my ear like two metal beams being slammed together in front of my face. The same explosion would render me deaf for years...thank the Spirit I thought of getting me something to dampen the noise, or I'd end up like the rest of my kind..."

By amount of Po-koro guards, do you mean PC or NPC?

Because there's only small numbers of both.

Both, I suppose. One a side note, is there a predetermined number of NPCs?

Not sure whether to be flattered that you think Reordin's a tactical nuke waiting to happen or whether to be offended that I've been associated with Call of Duty.

Grochi, you just made my day.  :D

And, Voutok, I will admit, you make a number of good points. However, I thought I should add:

The RPers for the Oceanic Six weren't chosen because of the abilities of their characters, but because of their own writing ability. The overall reason that they were given access to these scarily-powerful masks were because they've been deemed skilled enough story-tellers to (hopefully) not turn into wrathful gods who abuse their characters abilities.

Just my two cents there.

Void summed it up pretty well here.

This isn't about who's most successful. If it was, then there wouldn't be the point of a contest. The people who were best at RP combat would have won, and that means they would have been Toa already. It's about the quality of the character, and the integrity of the person who plays them.

Tyler was given emergency authority in the month when Nuju left because things went to heck in a handbasket, and things shaped up instantly. To continue on using him as an example, if he was trusted enough to be given that level of authority, I don't see why a special mask would be an issue.

*Shakes his head solemnly* I told you it was a VERY loose comparison, Tyler. I was never calling anyone a nuke, just stretching an analogy to its utmost extreme to stress a point. What's that called again...oh yeah, a hyperbole. Sorry if I accidentally offended you. I hate CoD too so yeah that's that.

Emissary, that's actually what I was referring to. They were chosen ultimately because of their exceptional writing style ("playing the game", so to speak).

Again, it's just my two cents.

@_@ Easy, no need to repeat each other. I actually meant to say plot characters. Honestly.

But wow, I really missed a lot. Is there a list of all contests won related to this plot? Cuz I'm sure I wouldn't keep making these stupid mistakes if I read it. <.<;;

[snipped]

First of all, I'm happy that you guys feel comfortable enough to openly present your views like this. :) I don't ever want anyone to feel like they should stay quiet about something that's bothering them just because they're afraid of the backlash.

Now, on to your argument.

The basic premise of your post (and Drae's post, as far as I can tell) is that you feel the Maru's masks, despite being earned through well-written, responsible roleplaying, are too prone to godmodding, and thus they shouldn't be allowed, regardless of how responsible players have proved themselves in the past. You feel that these masks make the playing field uneven, and that, because of their presence, all players are no longer equal.

Is this what you're saying? I just want to make sure I'm clear on this, because I don't want to reply to something I thought you said but didn't actually say. :)

Now, on to my reply.

The Maru's masks were contest rewards. Oreius did not receive the Kanohi Auporo because Nuju likes me better than you; I received a reward because I entered a contest and played well enough to win. I'd say that's fair, wouldn't you? Most RPG's have a rule somewhere that says something to the effect of "good roleplaying will be rewarded." We played well; we were rewarded. I don't see how that is unfair. If you play well, you can be rewarded, too. :)

You don't seem to have much of a problem with that, though. What i'm understanding is that you feel the masks will make the Maru too powerful to challenge. On the surface, this seems a legitimate concern, but it is ill-founded.

The key fact that you are missing from your argument is so crucial that I feel I must embolden it to make sure it is clear: all characters are on an equal playing field.

I'll say it again: all characters are on an equal playing field.

Does Oreius' Mask of Weaknesses make him a stronger character than he was prior? Yes. Does it make him less likely to be beaten? No. Here's why:

You can beef up your character's skills and strengths all you want, but it was been demonstrated time and time again that IC traits do not trump good roleplaying. There have been many instances in this game where Matoran characters have triumphed over Toa, Skakdi, Vortixx, and Rahi, because brains, nine times out of ten, are superior to brawn.

Yes, the Maru are stronger characters than they were before, but they are still playing on the same field.

An example: no matter how good a basketball player is, he's still playing on the same court as everyone else. The hoops are the same height, and the free-throw line is the same distance from the basket as it is for everyone else. Yes, he has a personal advantage, but he is playing the same game as everyone else, and thus can be beaten.

If one of your characters were to engage Oreius in battle, his personal traits would not overrule the personal traits of your character. He could still be beaten, if you played smart and if you played well. Chances are, if you played well enough, I would be impressed and give you the victory, because I like good roleplaying. :) Our characters will always be on the same playing field, regardless of age, gender, height, weight, skill, or experience.

In the end, the character does not matter. It is the roleplayer who matters. If you play well, you can win, and you can be rewarded. The Maru are examples to follow, not to fear: they are the example of what you can get if you continue to play well.

Actually, my issue was just that the masks, in ordinary circumstances, were not allowed. The fact that they're contest approved makes it better, though. Still a little apprehensive, but it's more a matter of personal taste than anything.

Sorry everyone, for being such a wet blanket, and making dumb complaints. It'll be better next time, when I'm around for the important stuff.

Void: Oh it's no trouble. Glad I could clear that up before people get the wrong idea. Happens all the time to both parties, honestly

Tyler: Ah. Gotcha. I have just as much trouble differentiating a joke from a call-out almost as much as I have trouble making the distinction 100% clear in my own posts. (Pssst. Void. Exhibit A. XD)

Eyru: I see, and I understand. My only real concern was the "breaking rules" thing that Tyler stated even staff characters like Joske and Hennui (or whatever his name is. Sorry if I got that wrong) do sometimes. Of course, I understand some of those instants are to supress people who ARE breaking rules, and that's relatively fine and dandy. Just the thought unsettled me for a moment of "intentional powergaming/godmodding" that can be interpreted as due to a "perk". No harm done =3

If you're good enough an RPer to get to the stage where Madrihk was, with the whole 50+ PC army and all, you'll probably easily stand a chance against any Toa with those kewl masks.

I'll probably be forming a makeshift group of sorts in 2013, if anyone is interested.  Probably just like, a group of travelers or something, maybe Rahi fighters, but whatever it is, I want to interact more in the RP and I think a group would be a good way to do that.

It's ok, it happens to the best of us XD *patpat*

NPCs are magic. They appear for our convenience.

Although realistically there are barely any NPC Po-koro guards. An organisation does not recover very quickly if someone chucks an old man into their headquarters with a bomb strapped to him.

*cough*Tyler and Grochi*cough*

Yes, real life just cranked up a notch an I barely have time to RP at all. Apologies to anyone who's waiting on me; rest assured, I have not forgotten you.

Alright then, gentlemen, with this last Agni-post, I am going on a two-week vacation with limited internet-access. I don't know how much posting I can get done, but I plan on keeping up.

Hower, I know things are moving right now, so, for the time being, here's the arrangement in case my chars are needed but I am not able to respond in time:

Tucky was kind enough to assume control over Agni while I am gone and Tyler will do the same for Leah, so they're covered.

I am going to ask a few other players currently interacting with my chars if they want to do the same.

As for the Aitua and Horde, assume they're doing their thing, laying low for the moment.

I'll RP again when I come back or when I find time to go online while gone. Whatever happens first. =)

Let's like

do this

and not argue

mmkai guyz mmkai

I would make a character for this. XD

Okay, quick question: is there anyone in Ga-Wahi who would be willing to interact with a random, washed-up Toa of Ice? I really should've started with this character before now, but I've been a bit busy and haven't been quite able to wrap up his first post. Since I don't know if next year will have a timeskip or not (it probably will, judging from what we've heard so far), it would be best to at least get the first couple posts of his character out of the way - he really has no justification to not... arrive... until the 2013 storyline, at least not if there's a timeskip.

In real life, people shooting fire out of their hands is not realistic.

Thank you for the insightful advice, Captain. I'll take the obviousness from here.

This.

This is beautiful.

I'm not sure wether to cry, or to jump for joy.

Crying seems pretty good right now.

Joske still has his light powers since his battle with Joske,
Joske did battle with himself in order to acquire the ultimate powers of Light?

That sounds like a very trippy "plot twist" in a very very very cheesy cartoon/anime.

It's brilliant. *shot*

Yes. Before light, you need to purge your darkness.

And every time you say *shot*, I literally lose a little bit of respect for you. I literally do. No matter how humurous you want your post to be, I cant take you seriously the same way I can't take comic sans seriously (Thank goodness for iPads having no comic sans, because if not I can't take Gravs seriously either)

I really. Really.

Cannot fathom why you would say *shot*.

Like, obviously you're not getting shot. So why say it? It's like saying, at the end of every sentence, "I died."

No.

In any case, I'm getting toooo off topic with how you keep on getting shot, so thank you for listening, and please stop getting shot.

I apologize if I offended anyone who likes to get shot.

Oh. Here I was thinking he was sitting at the computer with a bottle of brandy.

Stupid me.  I must be spending too much time reading Dorian.
