In case anyone's interested how these entries got here: The top three entries voted by the judges were the winners (and will be announced at the end of this poll). The next five with the highest amount of votes were chosen to put in this poll (so the same story could not win both Judge's and People's Choice) -- however, the 5th and 6th highest entries were tied, so we decided to put them both in.

Anyway, good luck to all the finalists!

Ignition--a wonderful story that fully deserves to win. I read a number of others beside these 5 and I believe it is one of the best by far. :)

So these aren't actually entries 1-6, these are 4-9, yes?

Anyway, nulling seemed like the way to go for this, because I couldn't decide between 2, 3, and 4. :P Good luck to all entries, and great to job to whoever made the judges top three!

I have a question -- are the entries in the poll listed in order of ranking, or have they been randomized?

At the risk of seeming vain, I'm voting for my own entry (despite a few typos I missed; may I ask for permission to correct them?).

So these aren't actually entries 1-6, these are 4-9, yes?

Exactly. It seemed the best way of our not-very-many not-very-good options. These entries have to go through an additional elimination round, so that will make them more deserving of their slots alongside the judged best.

(despite a few typos I missed; may I ask for permission to correct them?).

You can PM Velox, but I don't think further edits will be allowed.

Just out of curiosity, what happened to the rest of the entries? Not chosen for either the Judge's choices or the People's Choice poll? I'm not sure if this would be allowed in the other topic instead, but just a question.

All the rowboats, in the paintings

They keep trying to row away

They keep hanging in their golden frames

All the rowboats, in oil paintings

From the group of entries that you're talking about, 33 entries, there will be five or so Honorable Mentions, but beyond that, alas, they won't get any official recognition. Hopefully every story got at least one decent review, and if not the writer can post it to the SS Critics Club.

Wow, this was really fast. O.o

I recognize three of these entries that I've already read; I'll be sure to read the other three before I cast my vote. Though, I'm a little disappointed that I'm not seeing a few other stories up here... I hope they made it into the top three (or an honorable mention at least).

Good luck everyone, and an early congrats to the three winners (Which is kinda moot because we have no clue who they are, so they can't be congratulated, but you know. XD)! ^^

I rather unashamedly voted for my own entry, "All Our Sins Remembered", but I'm just glad to have gotten this far along in my first SS contest.

My second choice was difficult, but I'm rather partial to "All That Glitters" and probably would have voted for it had I not made it into the poll. They're all great entries, though, by some talented writers!

Good luck to all who entered, and may the best writer win!

Well, I hope I got 1-3 if that's 4-9 :D . I voted for Ignition, I was thoroughly impressed with all the inner conflict and the story. It was a hard choice between that, Dreams of Darkness, and Divided We Fall. They were all great, but I don't like nulling. I can't wait to see the end results!

...clearly my story was better received amongst judges then amongst the members. :P But amongst entries like Ignition, I can't blame y'all. XD That three way tie up there is intriguing though, I considered going back on my null to select All That Glitters, as I think it's my favorite of those bunch, and you need a tiebreaker. :P Doesn't really seem fair though, so I'll pass on it.

Finally read every entry. This is a really good batch of stories and I really enjoyed them all!
For me, the contest was between Ignition and Divided We Fall. I ended up voting for Divided We Fall, it was just beautiful and I thought it fit the theme of the contest the best.
Really great stories here, and I look forward to seeing the top three (though, I seriously doubt mine could beat these entries. O.o I can't wait to read the winners!) Good luck!

Ignition. It stood way out.

Divided we fall is too repeated of a story to me. Think Predator vs. Alien.

All that Glitters was also nice, but the cop-drama-yness put it back a bit.

While I liked things about all of them, I went with To Trap A Tahnok. Here's my (somewhat subjective) reasoning:

Dreams of Darkness: Quite well-written, but too dark for my taste. I don't think I like horror. Also, I thought the description of the body was a bit too grisly. There's also some continuity troubles (like, the Metru could never have possibly gone to Karzahni, and I don't think he can shapeshift), but I don't really mind things like that. It's poetic license.

All That Glitters: Nothing was resolved. What was Vitram doing? What role did the Dark Hunters actually play in all this? Who is the murderer? We never really find out. I understand that's the writer's goal; I just don't like it. And I didn't like Vitram dying. I don't think he deserved it...

All Our Sins Remembered: I didn't really understand her backstory at all, but it's a good story. I liked it; I just preferred Tahnok.
Ignition: Well-written, again. I liked how the characters were portrayed, especially Dume as the politician/dictator. But the ending spoiled it for me. Nuparu shouldn't have turned it on. I think it would have been better if he had tried to stop Dume and failed.

To Trap A Tahnok was my favorite. I liked seeing Matoran win their own battle, I liked the portrayal of Kopaka, which I thought was fairly accurate, and I liked the writing. The grammar/spelling was mostly fine (except for a few typos and jumbled sentences near the beginning) and the writing and imagery were pretty good. So it got my vote.

May the best story win!

For a man who seldom belts out a short story, I'm actually surprised I made it to the public top 5/6. A funny aside here at the moment: The number of votes for each story is fairly analogous to each story's length. Anyway, good luck to the other finalists. Enjoy your "eternal glory" winners. =)

For me, it came down to "All That Glitters" and "Ignition." "Ignition" is a very well written rondo, but something about "All That Glitters" keeps drawing my mind back to it.

atvan mentioned the "cop-drama-yness" and I can see that; I can see how it could come off as contrived. For me, though, it made for a very fun read whose pace was not slowed by excessive detail and description. That is not to say it is not well written; it is, but it is a simpler style, one that fits well.
And yes, I quite enjoyed the twist on the title.

Very difficult choice between Dreams of Darkness and Ignition. However, the horror story won in the end. So I voted for it. Not too disappointed to see Ignition in first, though.
