Games & Trivia Rules

Welcome to Games & Trivia! This topic will serve to present the updated rules of this forum.

-- This topic's tag will always reflect the date of the latest update. Information on what was updated will always be found in the "Edited by" line at the bottom of the post. --

What Belongs in G&T:
It may seem self-explanatory, but the difference between games in this forum and BZPower's other diversion of choice, RPGs, is not so trenchant in every case, nor is every game in this forum a competition or an activity in which one either wins or loses. Indeed, we can define a game as something in which one engages for amusement, a diversion, regardless of the outcome, if there even are determined outcomes for the activity. This definition is so broad that it would take a very lengthy list to cover every possible topic that would be allowed in this forum. It is simpler to state which topics are not allowed in this forum: RPGs.

Role-Playing Games:
Let me begin by iterating that role-playing games (RPGs) are not allowed in this forum. We have three forums for your RPG needs: Bionicle RPG, LEGO RPG, and COT. Please be aware that each forum has a different approval process for RPGs. If you are planning to start one, be sure to familiarize yourself with the process in the appropriate forum.

In an RPG, as its name suggests, you take on the role of a character, original or otherwise, and guide him, her, or it through a fictional setting. In an RPG, neither the outcome nor the exact story and process are defined at the start. RPGs are therefore a test of creativity and, in a way, authorship. The storyline is malleable material; each choice a player makes shapes it, adds to it, until the narrative becomes a rich and complex mesh - a new world within the setting, one defined by the actions, whimsical or otherwise, of the players. Does it sound enticing? Well, yes, it is great fun, but unfortunately this forum is not the place. As stated previously, there are three other forums for role-playing on BZPower. And I don't mean to detract from games in this forum; they are excellent fun as well. So, to be clear, then, games in this forum cannot involve the following:
  • Taking on the role of a character, assigned or chosen by one's own volition
  • Development of said character through the player's actions
  • A storyline determined by a player's or all players' actions
  • "Collaborative storytelling" involving any of the above
"Strategy games" in which players take on a role are allowed, however, provided that the other elements of role-playing do not come into play. If you are unsure of the nature of your game, please PM me or a G&T Forum Assistant before posting it.

LEGO Games Only!:
This game is meant for LEGO-related games only: Bionicle, Hero Factory, Ninjago, heck, even Cyber Slam - no matter what, it must relate back to a LEGO theme. BZPower-related games (such as "Describe the Sig of the Member above You" or "How Well Known Are You?") belong in COT. This also means that posts must be kept LEGO-related as well.

Starting, Hosting, Co-Hosting, and Playing Games:
Not everyone can post a game in this forum. Please familiarize yourself with this section if you have an idea for a G&T topic.

Starting a Game:
Only Premier Members can start a game in this forum. Non-Premier members are allowed request the help of a Premier Member as a co-host, however; if you are not Premier and wish to host a game, send a Premier Member a PM with the appropriate information about the game and your request. If he or she declines, do not get discouraged; there are plenty of active Premier Members on the site. Please note that should the topic starter’s Premier Membership run out, the game will continue regardless, just like polls in the Voting Booth are not closed in the same situation.

Hosting a Game:
Any member can serve as the host of a game. If you are not Premier and have had a Premier Member start the topic for you, it is your duty as a host to then post the rules of the game and not to let the burden fall on your co-host.

*NEW* While it is the job of a game's host to create and post its rules, the host has no further authority over the players of the game. That is, the host cannot "ban" players from the game and cannot otherwise reprimand players - that is the job of the G&T staff. Therefore, if you are having problems with a player, please contact me or one of my Assistants. It will then be our duty to take the appropriate action, if necessary. This is not to say that a host cannot politely remind players about the rules, however.

*NEW* It is up to the (non-Premier) host of a game to determine the amount of help he or she will need with running the game, should he or she require the help of a Premier Member. The host should make this clear in the PM sent. This means that, should a game’s host determine it is not necessary, the Premier Member will not be required to serve as the game’s co-host. As a courtesy, though, please consider participating in the topic.

Please remember to be courteous as a host.

Co-Hosting a Game:
So, you are Premier and someone has requested your help with posting and co-hosting a game. How can you help? Just like the game's host, the co-host has no authority over the players and cannot "ban" or otherwise reprimand them. However, you, as the co-host, can help by keeping the topic on-track by politely reminding players of the rules if they deviate. Otherwise, how you can help will depend on the nature of the game. Don't be afraid to ask your host for advice or things to do!

Playing a Game:
It is the duty of all players to read the rules of the game and follow them. Failure to do so will result in intervention by the G&T staff.

All game-playing must be carried out in the topic (or, if required in part, in PMs) and must not be carried off-site.

Be courteous to your fellow players. That is all!

General Rules and Guidelines:
All BZPower Rules and Guidelines do apply. This includes, but is not limited to:

Do not flame. Be respectful and courteous at all times. Please.

Do not spam. Keep your posts relevant to the game at hand.

Do not post inappropriate content. Keep all posts family-friendly. Inappropriate language, excessive violence, and any sexual content will not be tolerated. Remember: do not bypass the filter!

Use the report button! Please do not post to reprimand someone who has broken these rules; use the report link (located at the bottom of the post) to bring it to the attention of the staff.

Do not double-post. Use the edit button, or wait for someone else to respond to the topic.

Keep posts LEGO-related. This forum is for LEGO-related games only; similarly, posts must be kept LEGO-related as well. I’ve stated this twice, now, so no excuses!

Image-only posts are not allowed. Please make sure text accompanies an image. If you do post an image, make sure it is under 500 kilobytes (kB) in file size. Of course, if the post contains an image and only a word or two, it may be deleted at the discretion of the G&T staff.

Regarding revival: Revival in this forum is twenty (20) days; please always check the date of the last post before posting.

Thank you all for reading. I will leave this topic open in case anyone has a question about these rules that he or she would like to ask the G&T staff. On behalf of all the BZPower staff, we hope you enjoy your time here!

Sincerely,

The G&T staff:
