This is a series I've been thinking about writing for awhile, it's much better quality than some of my previous works, so I hope you like it!

Chapter 1

The Green

Gharo stared forward, his eyes locked on the massive reptilian Rahi in front of him. He had been traveling through the Geuro Jungles that afternoon in search for more Thornax fruit that he could use for his launcher. The massive blue Rahi opened its mouth, revealing a huge set of dripping teeth. Gharo glanced from side to side, making sure there weren't any other Rahi waiting to ambush him from the side or behind. His eyes narrowed, and the creature charged towards him, letting out half-screech, half-bark noises that would have even made a Makuta hide. Gharo jumped into the air, and the creature's eyes glanced upwards as Gharo's long black claws glinted in the sun. He reached his hand out in mid jump, and a vine came flying towards him out of the woods, giving him enough balance to swing around and stab his claws into the creature's back. The Rahi swerved back and forth, trying to shake Gharo from his back, and Gharo felt his arms beginning to tire. He activated his Kanohi Faxon, and he felt strength that matched the Rahi's fill his body. He dug his claws in harder, and the creature shook back and forth, but it was to no avail. Finally, Gharo got tired of messing with the creature, and he let go, causing him to soar through the air. He rolled with the momentum, and grabbed onto a vine that was hanging from a tree nearby. He swung around in the opposite direction, and flipped upwards, landing on the branch that the vine hung from. Gharo sat for a moment in silence, but suddenly a voice behind him said, "I thought you said you were looking for Thornax plants?" Gharo let out a yip and jumped into the air, and he plummeted downwards, just barely grabbing the vine he had swung from moments ago and avoiding a painful collusion with Mother Nature's floor. Gharo glared upwards at the figure that was peeking down at him. It was Tyre, a 'friend' of his and a fellow Toa of the Green, and he almost wanted to yell at him. But, he didn't, and he slowly climbed his way back upwards to sit next to Tyre, who was holding his hand over his mouth to keep from snickering. Tyre was clad in lime and forest green armor, and he wore a sleek Kanohi Miru on his face. One of his arms was long with a dark green barbed claw on the end, and the other held a shield. Tyre said, "Selva said he wants you to return to the village, apparently there's something wrong with coastline. Though I think he’s just making a big deal over nothing.” Gharo nodded, but he was so lost in thought that he didn’t really think about it. Selva was another Toa of the Green, and he was more of a quiet studier than somebody who went out and used his powers. Tyre glanced at him and said, "Want me to go tell him you don't care?" Gharo shook his head and said, "It can't hurt to check it out. Plus I haven't seen him in a while, and I've been meaning too." Tyre made a face and said, "You want to see Selva? I can't stand the guy. He doesn't do anything except study, and he doesn't even get half of my jokes." Gharo smirked and said, "Maybe it's because you aren't funny." Tyre was about to make a retort, but Gharo had already jumped through the air and grabbed a vine, and was soaring off towards the village...

Chapter 2

A Disturbance

Gharo walked down the streets of Geuro Village, the place that the Se-Matoran, the Matoran of the Green lived. Based off the stories he had heard from travelers, it was similar to that of a Le-Matoran city, in that it was built in the treetops. Though there were several large differences. Rather than living in huts on branches, the people of the village lived in the trees themselves, the Se-Matoran had carved out several large trees, and rather than walking across platforms to the other trees, villagers simply would grab a vine and swing to wherever they wanted to go. In the center of the village was a massive tree known as the Root Tree, in which Turaga Buruk lived. Gharo grabbed a vine and swung across towards a medium sized tree to the left of the Root Tree, one that had a massive wooden telescope housed in a log stuck out. He knocked on the door, and a voice said, "Come in." Gharo pushed the door open, and stared around the room. There were several maps and tools hung up on the walls, and sitting in the middle of the room was a figure who was holding a map in one hand, and some sort of magnification tool in the other. The figure looked up and said, "Ah, Gharo. Good to see you got my message. I wasn't sure if Tyre would deliver it." Gharo walked over to the figure and said, "Good to see you too Selva, I see your house is as clean as usual." He stared around at the floor that was covered in sharp tools that could probably rip through armor if one was stepped on, and several old maps that he was surprised weren’t completely trampled. He leaped into the air and did a flip to land next to Selva, who glanced up at Gharo, his green Mahiki flashing. Selva disliked the shape of the mask and called it uncomfortable, so he had modified it to fit his face better, making it look very much like a Miru. He pointed at the map in his hand and said, "You see the island right here?" Gharo nodded, and then Selva pointed at another map that lay on the floor next to him, "And this is the most recent picture I've taken." Gharo glanced back and forth between the two images. There was a clear distinction between the two; about half a kio was missing from the shoreline. Selva said, "Something happened about a month ago, remember when that earthquake happened?" Gharo nodded. About a month ago, a massive quake had shaken the island, but nothing had been damaged. Selva continued, "We thought nothing had happened, and everything was safe. But I've been monitoring the island for a while, and I think the stalactite that holds us to the base of the island has been damaged, or even completely shattered." Gharo's eyes widened, if that was true, they were in terrible danger. Selva continued, "I need help traveling underneath the island, I was planning on going through the Root Cave, but you know what happens to all beings who travel there." Gharo nodded. The Root Cave lay beneath the Root Tree, and traveled far below the surface of the island. Long ago it was open to the village as a public area, but something strange happened, and villagers had been reported to be lost. Buruk had ordered it to be closed off to everyone except for the Toa. If Selva was going down there, he would need help...

Chapter 3

The Root Cave

Gharo stared through the tunnel that lay ahead of him. Behind him stood Buruk, who held a torch and said, “Good luck my friends.” Gharo and Selva stepped into the cave, and began walking down its twisting path. To their left was a room with a stage that had once been used to perform plays before the place had been closed down. They continued walking down the tunnel, and soon they came to something that caught Selva’s attention. He pointed towards a wall and said, “Listen.” Gharo put his ear near the wall, and listened. A quiet trickling sound could be heard on the other side of the wall. Selva paused for a moment and then said, “I’m guessing there’s another cavern on the other side of this wall, and it’s caved in.” They continued walking down the tunnel, and stopped abruptly as they reached a wider point in the cave. The tunnel went down a little here, and rose up again into another cave, but the path was blocked by a large pool of water. Selva said, “The earthquake must have shattered the walls here. I’m going to go down and see if I can find anything.” Gharo nodded, and Selva dove into the water, and he pulled a lightstone from his back to help light his path. Gharo turned around, glancing around the cave, and then looked back downwards. His eyes widened as he saw that Selva’s lightstone was gone. Without a hesitation, Gharo dove into the water and began to swim downwards in search of his friend…Tyre sat on a branch of a tree that was about five kios from the village. He stared down at a large brown Earth Burnak who was about to pounce on an unsuspecting Air Gafna. Tyre smiled and held out his hand, and a vine whipped out from a tree nearby, wrapping itself around the Burnak and tossing it several yards away. It got up and bit into the vine, which snapped and lay limply on the ground. The Burnak stared at it for a moment, confused, and then got up and began to stalk its prey again. Tyre grinned and made the vine wrap around its legs, and it crashed down clumsily on the ground in front of the Gafna. The Gafna let out a hissing noise and ran into the forest. Tyre let the vine untangle itself, and the Burnak began to shred them between its teeth. Tyre turned and was about to leave, but a voice behind him said, “Do you enjoy messing up the path of nature?” Tyre whirled around and scanned the area, but nobody was there. Suddenly he felt something come crashing down on his head, and he let out an “Oof!” as he was knocked unconscious…

Chapter 4

Scion

Tyre glanced up from his prison cell and watched as a white figure entered the room. He was wearing a Kanohi Volitek. This, Tyre guessed, was the reason he had been unable to see his capture as he was being knocked out. The figure had white and dark gray armor, with some silver spots. He had an overly bulky chest that didn’t quite match the rest of his body. A cable ran from his back that was attached to his left hand, which bore a deadly pair of razorsharp talons. In his other hand he held a gun of some sort, one that Tyre didn’t recognize. The figure spoke in a cold icy tone that matched his armor, as he said, “You are examining me, wondering why I need cables to channel my power, aren’t you?” Tyre was doing exactly that, but he didn’t answer. The figure nodded as if he knew the answer, and continued, “Long ago I was a member of a Toa team, one that was comprised of the six primary elements. One day our team was called to the city of Flame, the massive Volcano in the center of town was erupting and killing Matoran villagers. We rushed there and began to escort the Matoran that were nearest to the Volcano.” The figure stopped, and a flicker of fear flashed in his eyes, and then he continued, “But then, the Volcano exploded. The entire village was swept away, all the Matoran, all the pet Rahi…and us. I watched as the others burned, my Water Sister was the first to go, since Toa of Water are extremely susceptible to fire and heat. Next was my Air Brother, who screamed as his face was melted away before our eye. Then my Earth and Stone Brothers went, their strength couldn’t save them. I tried to create an ice float to save myself, but it only lasted a few minutes. I watched my Fire Brother hang on, since he was the least susceptible to the lava. His Hau was scarred and burned, but he hung on. I thought I would be the next to die, but suddenly my tattered body was pulled from the lava by a figure I didn’t recognize. I was given a customized exo-suit to replace my lost limbs, as well as a new mask to replace my lost Akaku. I also found out that my Fire Brother had survived as well, and we were both given new names with our new bodies. My Fire Brother was given the name Blight, and I was named Scion. And that is where my tale ends.” Tyre considered it all for a moment, then said, “So why did you capture me?” Scion said, “When my master gave me my life, I had no choice but to pledge myself to their power. I do not know why they want you; I do not ask questions, I simply follow.” Tyre thought to himself, “Fantastic, I’m stuck in a prison cell with an insane enslaved Toa of Ice on the other side, I hope Gharo and Selva are having better luck than me…”

Chapter 5

Blight

Gharo came upwards from the water and sucked in a breath of air and looked around. He stepped out of the water, he had come out on the surface again, apparently there had been a spot where the surface had been cracked open, revealing a segment of the Root Cave. It was storming, and lightning lit up the ground, revealing that it was rocky and barren where he stood. He stared around, he didn’t recognize this place, and they hadn’t traveled more than a kio from the village, which was strange since he knew the island very well, especially the area nearest to the village. Gharo wiped the rain from his mask, and glanced to the left as another flash of lightning lit up the sky. He froze; in the moment that the lightning had been there, he had seen a pair of orange eyes behind a black Kanohi Hau. He slowly extended his claws and his eyes flicked back and forth, scanning the rocky terrain for the unidentified figure. He glanced up and saw a surge of electricity. For a moment he thought it was more lightning from the storm, but he realized it wasn’t when the electrical blue color didn’t go away. He held his hands above his head just in time to block the blow from the figure’s electrical whip. He felt it surge through his claws for a moment, but he yanked them backwards and stood panting. A burst of flame lit up the area, and Gharo stared at the figure in front of him, now in full view. He was in fact wearing a Hau, one that was scarred and burned, Gharo wasn’t even sure if it still worked, or if it simply acted as a faceplate to cover up an even worse scarred face. The figure had two cables running from his back to his hands. One ended in a simple hole that emitted a burst of flame, while the other was connected to the electrical whip. His reddish-orange eyes matched the flames, and they burned with a dark sickly hatred that sent shivers down Gharo’s spine. Gharo readied his claws, and wished that his mask could come in handier, but there were no Rahi around. The figure let out a cold laugh and said, “You can’t hope to defeat me, I am Blight, wielder of fire and lightning. He cracked his whip as if to challenge Gharo. Gharo ran forward and slashed his claws out, but his body was slammed backwards. He shook the stars from his head and glanced upwards. Blight’s mask had been activated, and a large red glowing shield surrounded him, and he could see that the mask did in fact still work, but it cracked under the pressure. Blight deactivated his mask and stepped towards Gharo, and reached out his free arm. He grabbed Gharo around the throat, lifting him up into the air. Gharo struggled, but couldn’t break free of the firm grasp. Suddenly Gharo spotted something about thirty meters away. A small purple glowing electric bug Rahi was buzzing through the air. Gharo activated his mask, and immediately Blight let go and held his hands up to his face as the bright light shone on him. Now that his opponent was temporarily blinded, Gharo took the moment to run. He couldn’t defeat the Toa, not in this darkness and not when he was still dazed from the blast of electricity and the collusion with the shield. He glanced back, he would return for Selva…

Chapter 6

Beaten

Tyre glanced up as Scion entered the room again, followed by a tall figure that wore Gunmetal and Rusty Yellow Armor. Based off his tubes coming from his back, Tyre guessed that this was Blight. The door was opened, and Blight dragged a limp figure across the floor, and threw him into the cell with Tyre. Blight said, “I brought you a playmate.” He let out a cold laugh, and then slammed the door shut again. Tyre rushed to the unconscious figure’s side, it was Selva. He shook him, and slowly he regained consciousness. He glanced up and said, “Wha-Where am I? Where’s Gharo, and where’s the Root Cave?” Tyre said, “You were kidnapped like me I assume, and I don’t know where Gharo is, I thought he was with you.” Selva shook his head and said, “He was, we went down into the Root Cave, and found a huge spot where the cord was cracked, and water was leaking in. I went down to try and find some way to seal it off, but somebody grabbed my lightstone and then I was electrified.” Tyre said, “Blight probably snuck up on you, but that still doesn’t explain…” Tyre was interrupted by the answer as Blight said, “I tried to get the other one, but he has some sort of mask power that let him light up, I was blinded for a moment, and then he bolted like a coward.” Scion glanced at Blight and said, “We need to get him out of the way quickly, or he might find out too much, then the whole plan will be lost.” Tyre thought for a moment, what could kind of plan could he possibly be involved in? What were these two traitorous Toa doing, and why? And who was their mysterious leader? These are the questions that burned in Tyre’s mind as he stared off into the distance…Gharo glanced backwards to make sure he wasn’t being followed by the figure. He was relieved when he saw that not only was he not being followed, but he was beginning to recognize where he was. He saw the forest that lay outside the village, and glanced backwards at the torn terrain. He realized that this must be the Burnak Wastes, a small torn up piece of ground between the Geuro Jungles and the larger mysterious Poku Jungles. He glanced at the village, and made a dash for the Root Tree as the rain began to pour once again. He climbed a vine up to the small platform that surrounded the entrance, and he knocked on the door. Turaga Buruk opened the door and motioned for him to come inside as he said, “Come in, come in, it’s dreadful out there. So what did you find?” Gharo’s face darkened as he said, “I’m not entirely sure. We went down there and began exploring. We found a cave with water that had broken through, probably during the earthquake. But then, Selva disappeared, and when I tried to find him, I was attacked by a strange Toa of Fire that could also control Lightning. He called himself Blight. I think he was the one who kidnapped Selva, but I’m not at all sure why he wants to capture us.” Buruk stared up at him, “As you know, I was once a Toa. I had to fight alone, without a team, and I often felt myself at a disadvantage. But I always remembered one thing, every enemy has a weakness…”
