LEGO clearly wants all of my money. At an event in Portugal yesterday they announced 10237 Tower of Orthanc - an amazing playset based on the iconic location from the books and movie. It includes five minifigs, an eagle, an Ent, and tons of awesomeness. Check out the Talkback for pictures and full details!

The model seems to be missing the flowing lines and geometry that make the movie model Orthanc so appealing, but I guess there's really not a whole lot you can do about that at minifig scale (which is why I'd much rather see sets like this at the scale of the Architecture sets).

I actually find the minifigures (and Treebeard) much more attractive than the model itself, but I don't see myself spending so much money for a few exclusive minifigures.

You'd think that in a set of this scale, there would be some form of stairs, or another method of traveling from floor to floor. Seriously, that is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Gorgeous set though, may have to start saving for it.

I thought it looks kind of goofy from the official pictures. Of course, they have to scale it down to fit in the $200 price, so it can't be seven feet tall. But the way they also tried to make it minifig scale just looked disruptively disproportional. The video was a little more flattering, though- I think in person it will look terrific. Truly a stunningly designed model.

Very impressive set! It does fall a bit short of the spectacular form shown in the movies, but it's an acceptable representation. The Ent looks a bit silly to me, and honestly gives more of an impression of some strange robot with leaves. I guess smooth plastic can never have the look or texture of wood unless the mould itself were really complicated. And that'd only drive up the price, which is outrageous enough as it is.

Won't be buying it when the LEGO Store opens in my city, but perhaps it'll be there.

This is awesome even if Treebeard's eyes aren't aligned. Oh, look 200 posts.

I think they're not supposed to be aligned. And I'm not sure he's supposed to be Treebeard. As some people have pointed out on other sides, they would likely call him Treebeard if that was who he was meant to be (he's just described as an "ent"), and they might be saving Treebeard for a later set with Merry and Pippin.

200 bucks and still no knee joints for Treebeard. Lego, I am disappoint.

Knees might break up the column-like profile that makes him feel so much like a tree. I can see why they were omitted.
