  1. IC: Idlyx Haeve - Ga-Metru He sighed at the Toa not catching his joke and complied. "What now, then? Are you going to turn me in while Dume is in mortal danger?" IC: Nale Vella - Po-Metru Her thoughts were too scrambled to take in the information from Arkius. Nale crossed her arms and stared at the floor to avoid eye contact with Knichou. "I...it was Arkius. He dropped the sand on the Hunter to...make him fall. I don't think Stannis would have--" Stannis. What would he think? In the moment she felt good about what she was doing and that's what bothered her the most, because now she felt awful. Had it been necessary? "...anyways, we don't have to worry about him trailing us any more, at least. I mean, bright side, right? He'd been after us a while now. Even dropping him from an airship didn't make him go away..." ...when you do something you're not supposed to, it feels good. And if you keep doing it, it'll eventually stop feeling forbidden and just be another part of life. The Toa Code is clear. She understood it. And Nale was sure even intent to kill was, at the very least, a black mark. Would this become the new normal...would she end up like the invisible man? She felt like a child who had disobeyed and would now have to confess. The Fa-Toa was already thinking it over. How do you tell someone something such as this, and would Knichou think less of her? The crew of this ship were her friends, and the two Toa she'd teamed up with were her brethren. God, a team! She hadn't been a part of one since... "...Knichou," Nale said, now looking up at the Matoran, "I shot him. Twice. I don't know what we did that killed him first--my rounds, the sand, only Mata Nui knows. But...I was shooting him to kill him." She looked him in the eyes. "I wanted him dead."

  2. IC: Reliable Narrator Tallea did not see anything odd about the world through the portal, except that to see a portal to somewhere else entirely was very odd indeed.

  3. IC: Vyarik - Po-Metru The Dark Hunter died smiling... though no one would see it, given that his face was now under several inches of sand. He had seen the dead rise in Ta-Metru. He knew, the same would happen to him. He didn't know what he would become, whether he would remember any of what he had once been, but he knew his enemies would remember him. His name would live on, even if he didn't. Broken and buried, in agony and alone, Vyarik breathed his last. And something new awoke in his place. ______________________________________________________________________________ IC: Revenant - Po-Metru Nothing stirred in the sandy sinkhole for several long minutes. And then the sand began to churn, roiling as something writhed beneath it. A shape broke the surface - though perhaps not the one those waiting above were expecting - as the entire Vahki Transport began to rise from its resting place. The metal creaked and groaned, sand cascading from its form as it dropped back onto level ground beside the pit it had been so recently dropped back into. A being stood upon the prow of the machine - ten feet of all-too-familiar figure - whose baleful gaze was focused not on the group, but towards the Colosseum at the heart of Metru Nui. With his back to most of those present, they would be able to see the two ragged wounds Nale's rounds had left, and the jutting fragments of bone protruding from his skin, all of which now bled a crimson light that matched the shade of the sky above. For now, the Revenant did not move, the body's new host still acclimating to its newfound flesh, the collective assimilating the new memories. But soon, it would be ready to complete its purpose.

  4. IC Stan | Po "Oh, nothing," the old toa said nonchalantly. "It just seems as though the integrity of the puzzle is of no concern anymore, so I had an idea." He gave a withering glare at the kralhi, who's robotic lack of understanding had caused the potentially massive disaster in the first place. Stannis loathed the atomatons Nuparu had created, for their absentminded adherence to directives in part... but also because he was just old and didn't like the newfangled technology, plain and simple.

  5. IC Kilo-M9 - Po-metru Sculpture Fields: Rubble excavation at 2% Weakness disk has been retrieved. Storing in secure compartment. Reporting status to allies. The scorpion-like mech was hard at work. Bit by bit, the newly formed pit in the sand was beginning to empty. Visually it hadn’t changed at all, but the calculating construct knew approximately how much progress was being made. Progress would be made quicker with help from its allies, but they were preoccupied with conversation. On its most recent trip out of the pit, the machine passed by the group. It its arms was a block of marble larger than a toa. Servos and gears whined in protest from the abnormal weight as the robot tossed the block away. The block didn’t get far, but it was clear of the pit, which was all that mattered. The mechanical enforcer turned to its allies, removing another kanoka disk from its opposite side compartment. This disk read the number 678. “Regeneration disk is available if needed.” With its contribution to the discussion complete, the metal guardian descended down the slope to return to its work.

  6. Isn't there a scene in the MNOG set in Le Koro where the Matoran play simple flutes, drums, and wind instruments? The rest of the music in-game follows that pattern, IIRC. The Matoran don't seem to record music, so I assume most of it is implied to be improvised. I imagine in the early days of the canon anything the Maori might have used could be up for grabs. Once the series got more sci-fi such "trivial" aspects like art and culture gradually drift out of the series; the way Greg and other writers have described the Toa and Matoran it wouldn't be surprising if they are supposed to lack any appreciation of music and the like, considering how little self-expression the Matoran get up to under his watch.

  7. Admiral Jaldamir Admiral Jaldamir by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr "A noble and valiant commander whose sole purpose is to bring to justice anyone who dares to stand against the crown. Has a long-standing enmity towards criminals who fare the seas, especially Pirate Lord Dreadwind and his band of miscreants". Admiral Jaldamir by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr A reimagining of an old character I had built way back in 2015. Since the moment I lay eyes on the kanohi Iden I've always pictured it belonging to an elegant, gentlemanly-looking character. And I felt the same way about those Praetorian Guard cloth skitrts; as soon as I saw them, I knew I had to build a redcoat-wearing character. Revamping Jaldamir gave me the answer. Safe to say I managed to pull this aesthetic off? I'll let you all be the judge of that!

  9. Tallea - Metru Nui - Po-Metru IC: "See what I mean. Now if someone with a ranged ability could disrupt his concentration I bet it would look really impressive as that whole thing falls back into the hole." So saying, Tallea turned back to the recently uncovered table and statue. Atamai's deduction was logical and the last line was likely Destiny, which meant....With sure movements she took each statues and placed them in the indentations on the table. 10. IC: Knichou, Po-Metru, Bridge of the Taku Knichou took a moment to process this, having turned his seat around to face Nale as soon as she began to speak. Two of the three Toa who had been protecting him for the past few days had killed a Dark Hunter before he lifted a finger to battle them. Yes, this dark hunter had been chasing them in the past - to an extremely irritating extent - but this particular battle was entirely one-sided. Regardless of what was the killing blow, Arkius and Nale both tried to throw it. The fact that Nale had shot him twice while he was trying to climb up to safety was particularly disheartening. Not even a mistake in the heat of the moment - a deliberate act that she felt necessitated an extra coup de grâce as the cherry on top. Knichou tried to hide his fear and disgust on his face as the Toa of magnetism described her actions. Knichou had never been as praising of toa as perhaps the other matoran in this group were - as a weapons designer he knew that Toa needed their weapons for a reason and weapons could be designed to kill them effectively. As someone whose homeland was overrun by the armies of the Barraki, Knichou knew all too well that the morality of toa was not a given. Code or not, most toa would kill if necessary. War is war. Knichou just hadn't seen that with his own eyes before. Knichou only saw the war from the stories that came back, both propaganda and rumor. He hadn't seen a man die after getting sniped from a safe perch far away. This wasn't exactly a murder in cold blood, but it certainly wasn't justifiable by most definitions. It certainly made their quest feel less righteous. Knichou was at a literal loss for words - part of him knew the dark hunter was a threat from the past, part wanted to scold Nale for the kill, and a sliver felt respect for her admitting her participation in the grisly scene. Knichou knew all too well that admitting one's cowardice could take as much bravery as the action or inaction you felt like a coward for in the first place. All Knichou could think of in the moment was a breathless sigh of a response. "oh" Knichou turned back around to the console, a desperate attempt to break eye contact with Nale and pretend to do something important with the ship's controls. He was too shocked and conflicted to think of a response besides that weak acknowledgement, he would have to think on this later. The room was silent for a long time, filled only with faint the whirr of machinery. The lull was broken when the vahki transport emerged from the sands in from of them and the dark hunter appeared alive, if horribly disfigured and uncharacteristically silent. Instead of facing them, this husk silently turned towards the coliseum. Two large holes were still oozing blood from his back. Knichou felt like he was looking at a ghost. "what"

  11. IC, Atamai: Po-Metru After reading over the riddle, I breathed a sigh. Maybe all hope wasn't lost. "Let's see, there are four lines, four statues, and four depressions in the table. Obviously each statue corresponds to a line in the riddle, and you put the statues on the table in order of the riddle's lines. I think that the Unity statue corresponds to the second line of the riddle since it mentions bringing minds and hearts together, while the Strategy statue works for the third line since it talks about devising a plan. However, I'm not entirely sure which order the last two statues would go in."

  12. IC: Arkius - Po-Metru Arkius stared at Tallea incredulously. "You can't be serious! He's going to come back?!" Arkius' previously stoic face broke into anger. After all that, this cursed Hunter was just going to bounce back and keep making their life difficult? The earthen toa stared down into the pit at the corpse lying there, uneasy about the prospect of death being so brazenly dodged. Upon hearing Jabali speak up, how ever, he shook his head and approached her. "Well until anyone else volunteers to go there, I don't see why not. I myself would go, but..." Arkius simply frowned and looked back over his shoulder at the pit, at Vyarik's resting place. IC: Okuo - Great Temple "Oh, well, yes! Actually, me and a friend of mine were looking into the matter ourselves. Perhaps we could join up and- Can I come in? It feels a bit silly to be talking to a door." IC: Ardoku - Temple Assault Under the watchful eye of Tekmo, Ardoku continued to slowly but surely bleed out, the ash that covered him failing to halt the blood from exiting his wounds completely. Every second he spent like this, unattended, he drew closer and closer to death. He could feel his consciousness slipping. It was like falling asleep, only every time he shook himself awake, another wave of fatigue pulsed throughout his body and he could feel himself grow more tired.

  13. IC [Zataka, Le-Metru]: The titan smirked. Not exactly what she'd hoped to see, but enough to prove her instinct had been right: There was knowledge to be gained here, even if it turned out unrelated to the disks. It wasn't the thoughts about attacks or lack of lodging that peaked her curiosity - those were on everyone's mind right now and she would have to find someplace to stay herself. But the spot with the lizard looked very much out of the way for average citizens, especially a group this diverse. Compared to the myriad of Le-Metru workers and other beings she'd seen traveling together at the transfer hub, they stood out, and not just due to the size. And why this mode of transport? Matoran traveling by chute would have certainly gone unnoticed - unless they were specifically trying to avoid such a busy public space. It would be easy enough for the league or hunters to post informants in such areas to keep an eye out and then intercept the group along the way. The same for airships. But if avoiding attention was the goal, then using the giant form was counterproductive, considering that was what had drawn her own attention. But with the increase in speed and the freedom to change routes, the Turaga could always shrink down at any moment. It would be just disorienting enough for pursuers to allow the group to split and disappear into the Metru's underground. More than enough reason for her to push a little more. :Of course, it'd be unwise to keep Dume waiting.: Zataka's voice echoed in the Turaga's head, as if he'd never moved out of earshot. OOC: @Azibo

  15. Tallea - Metru Nui - Po-Metru IC: The fight, if one could call it that, seemed to be about over. One of the Dark Hunter was surrendering, another was on the run and the last was dead or dying. Speaking of... "Not to rain on the parade but that guy is going to get back up. There's some sort of undead plague resurrecting people all over the city." It wasn't directed at anyone in particular, simply a piece of information aired for those to whom it applied. The armored Matoran herself was walking towards the now ruined pyramid, scanning it with her x-ray vision once more in an attempt to find anything useful. Even if whatever had been down there was gone, the pieces of it were likely intact. If she could locate those pieces they could be removed from the rubble with a minimum of additional damage.

  16. IC: Leonn - Po-Metru (Survivor) Sand kicked up into his mouth as he landed, scratching against his armour. Vague loud noises echoed in the distance, akin to gunshots. With a hacking cough that expelled the sand that got in his mouth, he glanced around, specifically to the pit. Something lay there, sinking lifelessly. Since he could see Waveahk's blue arnour nearby, he guessed it was Vyarik. His vendetta, it seemed, had got the better of him. A shame, he oddly respected the Hunter. Too fixated, for sure, but dedicated to his mark. And a good fighter, from what he saw. But, he strayed from his perogative. And that made him unprofessional. That was the difference between him and Leonn. Of course, the blood in the sand led Leonn to realize he was very much in the firing range as much as Vyarik had been. Amber eyes widening, both his hands shot up as he looked up at the airship. He hated the idea, but he was going to have to surrender if he didn't want to be killed. "DON'T SHOOT!" Leonn yelled up at the airship. "I SURRENDER!" IC: Kovac Krossfari - Ga-Metru (Revelation) The Vo-Toa's cocksure, subtly intimidating expression was wiped clear off his face as he read the text. He managed a mumble of something incoherent for a moment, unsure of how to feel. He had his grievances of how Dume ran Metru-Nui, for certain, but... He breathed in, trying to make sense of what he'd do next. Could he stop them? He'd been able to catch Idlyx, but a multitude of Hunters were likely converging to the coliseum. The odds were impossibly bad, he came to realize. For the first time in his life, Kovac Krossfari felt alone. Completely, and hopelessly alone in his pursuits. His only company, ironically, being the sadist kneeling before him. He reached to his waist, a jingle of metal echoing through the alley as he pulled out a pair of handcuffs to secure Idlyx. He wasn't sure what he'd do with the monster, after that.

  17. With the prerequisite of three Revenants out of the way, a new stretch goal unlocked for the Untethered faction! Kaita: Three revenants may form a single entity with access to the combined powers of the revenants involved. This entity is known as an Untethered Kaita. Untethered Kaita may use noble kanohi. All of the players involved in a Kaita may post as the Kaita. Coordinate in PMs or OOC for best effect. For size and damage, consider an Untethered Kaita larger than a titan (i.e. Brutaka) and treat all damage as if they are a normal PC. Untethered Kaita revert to individual revenants when dealt a mortal blow. Revenants must wait until the next dawn to attempt to combine again.

  20. This site, and the people on it, were hugely influential on my development as a person. I come back every couple months because it feels like coming home in some ways. Plus, the site has this vague, hard-to-describe, "Old internet" feel that I don't really see anywhere anymore...I like it. Plus the people are still cool. It's interesting to see a username pop up here that I remember from 10 years ago.

  21. Would be nice to finally get designs for major characters like Lariska and Artakha, who are very much a part of the narrative in a big way yet don't have any canon designs, having never been sets or combiners. It sure is odd how a toy-based franchise has so many characters that have never gotten toys... Absolutely NONE of that is within the scope of what we just learned can be made possible via contests, nor is any of it a particularly good idea. Let G1 stay in the past, let G2 rest, and leave HF well alone, ESPECIALLY with that crossover nonsense.

  24. Sida sighed. Today was the first day of her new training. She’d been relocated to Matero, a decision that was out of her hands. She wasn’t thrilled about being the rookie. It was never a role that suited her, and quite frankly she wanted to get training day over with. Having moved to a new city wasn’t helping. Sida had never lived in an industrial part of the world before. Everything was changing around her; everything was new. Familiarity was something thrown to the wind now, and the art of second-guessing and relearning was bound to follow. Another sigh escaped Sida’s lips. She had been sitting in a blank room for what felt like hours. Her left arm was pulled across her chest while she strummed her fingers on the table in front of her with her right hand. Her eyes were preoccupied with her left. There wasn’t anything terribly interesting about a blank wall, but then again she wasn’t hoping for anything interesting. Being alone with her thoughts normally suited her fine, however today Sida wanted time to pass. That was the only thing that made five minutes feel like a year. Finally the door Sida had been facing opened. “So, you’re our new transfer. Sida, right? The Toa of the green?” The voice was slightly coy. Sida turned her head away from the wall and met two newcomers. Both were tall figures clad in armor. The one that had spoken was no doubt in front; a Toa in orange and white with a cool smile on his face. Behind him stood a figure in blue and gold. She was smiling. “Welcome to HQ. It’s nice to finally meet our new brother. My name is Miln.” This time the Toa in back had spoken. “My name’s Tanu. I apologize for being blunt.” Tanu’s voice wasn’t any less smooth despite his apologetic speech. “Hrmph. Charmed.” Sida refused to move from her seat. “Wait… You’re female?” Tanu had hardly finished speaking when he was knocked off balance. Sida had, in one motion, stood and unleashed several vines which wrapped around Tanu’s torso with a firm grasp, knocking the table over in the process. Miln had tightened her stance in response, ready for battle. “Got a problem with that?” Sida’s voice was a low growl. “Heh. You’re pretty fast. We could use more Toa like you.” Tanu slowly placed a hand on Sida’s vine and they vaporized in what appeared to be liquid fire. “You’ll forgive our curiosity, Sida.” Miln had stepped between the two. “We will not demand an explanation should you not wish to provide one.” “Good.” Sida retracted her vines and loosened her stance. She was still standing boldly with her arms crossed. Miln and Tanu shared a look for a brief moment before one of them spoke. “Well, Sida, barring any further arguments, we should get you started. We could use all the help we can get with our latest case. I’ll meet you two there.” Tanu casually walked through the door and turned to the left before vanishing from Sida’s vision. “Sida, a moment, please?” Miln waved her hand and the table Sida had knocked over placed itself back up right. Two chairs moved to opposite ends of table, and Miln gestured for Sida to sit. Reluctantly, Sida took a seat and Miln sat across from her. “Pardon my asking this, but are you having any problems with being relocated here?” “So what if I am?” Sida stared, her eyes unrelenting, into Miln’s Hau. “Sida, while you’re here, we need you focused. Underlying emotions can be dangerous if unchecked, especially in our line of work. I understand we just met, but if you have any problems please feel free to talk to me.” “Why wouldn’t you just read my mind? It would save us these unnecessary questions.” Sida’s glare didn’t waver. Miln, however, seemed to shrug it off by shaking her head. “I assure you, I only tap into the consciousness of others in a state of crisis. Abuse of such a power is unethical.” “And when I had Tanu, that wasn’t a state of crisis?” “No.” Miln’s voice was bold, and her face solemn. “If you wanted to harm our organization, you chose an inopportune time. Your demeanor showed signs of clear aggravation, likely at what Tanu had said. While you did assault him, you merely bound him and left no physical damage. At best that’s a petty disagreement between Toa.” “… I see.” “If you’re interested, I could help you with your emotional state.” “How so?” “I can use psionic energy to tap into your emotional state, with your consent, of course. It won’t alter your thoughts or memories, but it will basically help you feel relaxed.” “I’m not following.” “Alright then,” Miln reached behind her and produced two golden discs around half the size of her hand. She proceeded to twirl one of them in her right hand. It spun around smoothly, forming the illusion of a sphere. “Imagine this is a balanced emotional state. This, however," Miln said, the second disk sputtering around wildly in her left hand, "is an emotionally unbalanced state. Sometimes we get angry or sad or what-have-you, and our emotions sometimes cause our actions to be biased. What I can do is alter this emotional state to an equilibrium to help remove bias caused by lingering emotion.” The disk in Miln’s right hand began slowly spiraling around the one on her left. Slowly but surely it wobbled less spastically and eventually matched the smooth rotation of its twin. It was like watching a dance. “Interesting. I’m afraid I’ll pass.” Sida never broke eye contact with Miln. “… Very well, it’s your decision.” Miln stopped the disks and put them away. “We should meet Tanu. He should be waiting for us at the morgue.” Miln stood and pushed her chair in. “A murder?” Sida followed her lead. “… We’re not sure.” Sida and Miln walked out of the room. A few turns, a walk up a staircase and two halls later, they reached the morgue. Miln hadn’t briefed her on the case so much as point out the facilities as they were passed. A lab for examining evidence, a sparring room for testing weapons and hand-to-hand combat, a robotics lab for creating and repairing robotic law enforcement, etc. Sida reflected on the last one. She’d heard stories about creatures named Vahki from the big city. As she recalled, that story didn’t end well. She asked, briefly, but was assured that they were “more state-of-the-art,” and that “measures were being taken to ensure they won’t be corrupted.” “There they are; my two favorite co-workers!” Tanu seemed to perk up as they entered the room. He was talking with a creature that was tall and lean. Its legs and arms were long, but its torso seemed more compact. Sida hadn’t met anyone quite like this before, however it was clear to her that the creature was completely mechanical. “It’s a bit early to act like old friends.” Sida sneered. “It’s also a bit early to act like bitter rivals.” Tanu chimed. “Sida,” Miln interjected, “this is one of our robotic officers. Here at HQ we have twenty two units total. Each is connected to one central computer system. Basically, they have access to information on any case in our records. They can even access information instantly on units currently on patrol; their position, status, and the current state of certain areas of this sector in the city.” Sida looked at the robot in front of her. It stared back, as if awaiting orders. “Only this sector?” “They’re prototypes.” Tanu wrapped his arm around the robot’s shoulders. “A Toa engineer came up with their design, and so far they’ve proven very effective. I’ve named this one Che.” “They are very easy to interact with. Why don’t you try it out? Ask about case 8-5-3-5.” Miln gestured towards Che. “… Che…” Sida glared at Tanu briefly. “Please tell me about case 8-5-3-5.” “Accessing case 8-5-3-5… Complete. What would you like to know?” The mechanical Che did not express much emotion in its speaking. Its voice was low. “Erm…” Sida wasn’t sure how to continue. “Che, please provide an overview of the case.” Tanu demonstrated. His voice seemed to tighten while he gave the command. “Overview: Two days ago a body was discovered in Southern Matero. The deceased is an Agori of unknown element. No visible injuries were found on the body; however a strange mask is covering the head completely. The cause of death is uncertain; however it is thought to be asphyxiation. There is no record of any witnesses to the death of the deceased. The body was discovered abandoned in an alley by Patrol Unit 019.” Everything was stated plainly. “The victim is here. We’ve taken to calling him Urnu.” Miln pulled on a bar sticking out of the wall, and revealed a bed with a body covered in a white sheet. Tanu pulled the sheet back down to the body’s mid-torso. Sida looked at the mask. She had never seen anything quite like it before. It was green and ugly, with large fangs sticking upwards from its mouth and a glare set in stone. Sure enough, the mask surrounded the head completely, and there were no visible signs that it could be removed. “Our friends in the lab have tried many techniques to remove this thing.” Tanu’s voice was low. “Nothing has worked so far.” “The lab sent us the mask in hopes that we might be able to find something they overlooked.” Miln stepped in front of Tanu and gestured for the two of them to step back. “I’m going to try to see if I can find something within the mask’s interior.” She closed her eyes and concentrated. A few moments passed when Miln let out a gasp and stumbled to the floor. “What’s wrong?” Sida managed to catch Miln before she hit the floor. “Miln? Miln, are you alright?” As if responding to Tanu’s words, Miln opened her eyes and shook her head quickly as she woke. “I’m sorry, I’m not sure what happened.” It was around this time that all three Toa looked up to the bed. Urnu was sitting up. A piercing scream filled the room, and Urnu jumped and ran for the door. Che was the first to give pursuit, running forward with impressive speed. Sida pushed Miln towards Tanu, who instinctively supported her and helped her stand. Sida ran after the two, not far behind. Che caught up to him and attempted to grab hold when Urnu turned and nimbly slipped passed his reach. Sida slid under Che, jumped back to her feet and continued her pursuit. The Agori was ten feet away, and the distance between them shortened. Sida saw how it moved; ducking and weaving around more oncoming robots, probably reacting to what Che had seen in the morgue. Sida quickly gave chase, ducking and weaving like the Agori. It was just like passing through the jungle back home. The chase continued for some time, until eventually her target made it outside HQ. Finally Sida had a clear shot. Five vines surrounded the Agori’s body and wrapped around tight. It was then that the vines dropped to the ground and Sida let out a scream. She stumbled forward, but managed to prevent herself from falling. Frustrated, she tried creating sturdy tree branches to entrap the masked fiend. The branches only managed to grow around a foot off the ground before their growth was halted. The last thing Sida recalled was a shrill screech before she lost consciousness. *** Sida woke in aggravation. “Well, look who finally came to.” Tanu was not helping. He was sitting a chair to the left of the bed she was in. He appeared to be fiddling with a glowing slab of stone. There wasn’t anyone else in the room, though there appeared to be six beds total. “What happened to the Agori?” Sida’s voice was groggy as she slowly sat up. “… Dead.” Sida’s mind froze for a moment. Dubiously, she turned to look at Tanu, who proceeded to stand and walk up to her side. “Here, you should see for yourself.” Tanu placed the flat, rectangular slab in front of Sida. It was displaying a video of her pursuit from earlier. Eventually at one point, she fell to the floor. The events following that were perplexing. The mask on Urnu opened and seemed to regress to the size of a normal kanohi. The mask fell to the ground and the Agori with it. Both lay unmoving as half a dozen robots moved in and surrounded the area. Tanu stopped the video. “What we appear to be dealing with,” Tanu explained, “is a strange case. We don’t know exactly what that mask is or where it came from. Our lab currently has it in custody, trying further experiments to find out what exactly it is and how it works. Between what happened with you and Miln, the popular theory is that it fed off of elemental energy. Of course that’s just a guess at this point.” “…Why did I faint?” “… We’re guessing that thing set loose some sort of signal. Our robotic officers’ recordings managed to pick up some strange background noise right as you fell to the ground. It didn’t do much to our metal friends, but it sure took its toll on the three of us.” “You mean you and Miln?” “We’re both fine. We were still inside the building when it happened, so we were only out for around ten minutes. In your case, the effects lasted around an hour.” Tanu and Sida appeared to be staring at the same wall. “I should be thanking you. You were fast enough to catch that thing before it reached the rest of the city.” Sida got out of the bed and started heading for the door. “Thank me some other time. This is far from over.” Sida sighed. Life in the city of Matero was already proving far more tedious than she had anticipated. --------------------------- This short story is a part of a collaboration I'm in with a couple of dweebs. These series of short stories we are currently releasing are a warm-up for our upcoming epic, Volition. These short stories are done independently and are to be considered "semi-canon" for our epic. ~Trivia~ The name Urnu is a shortened form of Ur-nohi. BZP member Tolkien has been working on the Matoran language and after I asked, he posed the words "Ur-nohi" or "Urnu" to mean "faceless" Sida's name is pronounced [see-dah] however Miln and Tanu have been mispronouncing it as [side-ah]. Sida feels correcting them would be a waste of time and finds such matters trivial. I chose the number 8535 for the case file because it is Toa Lewa Mata's set number. Sida's character started from a simple MOC I did.
