  1. IC: While the Faroese pilot would later regret leaving the sim pod just as the show was getting really good, she was unaware of that for the moment, and more concerned with trying to manage something productive in a day that had started off rather worse than she'd expected. Her original plan had been to retreat to a quiet place and blow five or so hours on working out a strategy for taking out a Raptor, but, as she walked away from the pod, she reasoned that in her current state, still frustrated and panicky over the defeat, the odds of success were low enough to make it a waste. Instead, she turned her attention to two pilots she saw conversing by machines that, like her own Týr, were far enough off from any standard model as to mark the pilots as members of the base's Test Team. Granted, as she looked up at her own machine and remembered how easily the Munequita had taken her down, she had a suspicion that she wouldn't be permitted to be a part of that for long, but attempting to avoid the consequences of failure would only compound disgrace, not alleviate it. Taking a breath to steady herself, she walked toward Lockheed and Armbruster, mentally preparing an explanation for her failure as she went.
  2. URGENT: Only men are allowed to be easily amused. Looking like one will not save you - the first verbal reminder of this law will ensure that you are no longer amused.

  3. Can this random animal I plucked from a tree predict winter weather? Badly.

  4. I may be incompetent, but at least I... okay well no, I don't look good while doing it, but I sound good.

  5. OOC: I couldn't sleep. IC: Watching the battle, a thought gnawed at her. Other pilots had gone down, yes, but they had fought hard. Others had failed, sure, but not so abjectly. They had lost their fights, but none of those fights had been so one-sided, so pathetic, as Fairuza's. And this would be the first time any of her comrades saw her - in action, or at all. This flailing disaster was the first - and, she thought, maybe only - impression she had made. This was how they would know her. She felt sick. Forcing a smile, forcing some of the cheerful bravado back into her voice, she punched the comm one last time. "I'll buy drinks for the two of you later, right now I need to..." she faltered, her voice breaking. No excuse would be good enough. Nothing would make them forget, make them like her. "I'm sorry. I need to leave. Good luck." Deactivating the simulator, she closed her eyes as the pod unsealed, then slowly unfolded herself as she climbed out. Keeping her eyes straight ahead, she didn't even look at Týr as she began to walk away, forgetting all practical matters in the panicked certainty that a single poor performance in the simulators had permanently disgraced her in the eyes of her comrades. OOC: If this is bad writing, let me know. I'm really not sure about it myself, and am quite willing to scrap the post if one of you tells me it's awful. In retrospect, I somewhat overstated her confidence in her profile, but behavior like this is, I think, absolutely in keeping with what I predicted in the section on weaknesses.
  6. Limes seemed fun until I remembered I'm too broke to afford produce. Now I feel betrayed.

  7. One of these days I'm gonna make a good decision but right now limes seem pretty fun.

  8. It's a good thing nobody reads messages from me, or else I might not be fast enough to edit out the regrettable ones.

You do that too eh? There's been so many times I've written something in frustration than quickly edit it afterwards upon realizing my mistake... Though if the person has it set up to notify them of PMs via email, they can see the original and now edited version. ;)

Yeah, having the ability to change what you said is very nice at times, especially as I sometimes say things I immediately regret. (I don't think I have on here at least, thankfully.)

On the plus side, if they do have it set up for e-mail notifications, anyone I message personal stuff to already knows I'm panicky and depressed, so it's not like it would be new information, just... probably kinda irritating.

  9. Do I have the worst taste in music? Buddy. Pal. I can spend an entire day jumping between cheesy viking metal and cheesier steampunk music. What does that tell you? (Hint: It tells you yes and I love it)

  10. Okay, I wasn't expecting to like this, but... 5/5. I really like the effect produced by the vocal looping, and just... yeah, I kinda love it. Meanwhile,
  11. 3.5/5, the vocal style really isn't my thing, but everything else about the song really is.
  12. Alright, I can deal with them being weird (though I'll definitely avoid the creepy song, I think) Anyway, I'm going to say about 4.5/5 for this one - I really did enjoy this song, but I am kind of picky about voices. (Fair warning that this song, too, is kind of weird. It's probably going to be a thing for me in October.)
  13. If you don't mind me asking, why do they make you uncomfortable? If it's got something to do with them being awful as people, I'd kind of like to know about it. Anyway, 4/5. Pretty catchy, only thing that brings it down from a 5 is that the vocal style isn't really what I go for.
  14. IC: Isariah happily started in on the dumpling soup while Roka mulled over his options. Privately, she thought he was taking a little long to make up his mind, but, she reasoned, everyone had days like that. As she enjoyed her soup, she reflected that she might be a little less understanding if they'd been ordering together.
  15. The folks running Star Wars have been busy, but yes, it's still on. They just need some time to get major events moving, and an increase in offsite workload has led to an overall drop in player activity. I would ask you, respectfully, not to speculate on such things. Many of the things you listed are arguably different enough from Star Wars to not be ruled out, though I would argue that any RPG in which time travel is a major mechanic is unlikely ever to work. I will further ask you to refrain from recounting every disaster your RPGs have turned into unless it's actually relevant to the situation at hand. For the most part, no one cares.
  16. That's fair, it's an inherently ridiculous cover. I just like it because it makes me think of a kooky villain song in an animated movie. Anyway... the harsher bits of the vocals made me iffy on this for a minute, but nah. Nah, this definitely makes the 5/5 list. The quieter part in the middle is pretty neat too.
  17. ...Also all of that, yeah. Probably best to shelve an actual Battletech RPG not something with a "based-on" label for now, work on it, and try to have a polished product to push out when Breaking Point ends. In the meantime, mechs are sewn up, superheroes are pretty much locked down with Marvel, obviously Pokemon's not really open, and Star Wars is likewise filled up.
  18. Without the lore and its designs, Battletech really isn't Battletech. If you remove that, all you get is just another generic giant robot RPG. On the Battletech-inspired thing, I still feel like it might be better to just make it Battletech. The lore is pretty much the only thing that could make it distinct enough from Breaking Point to have a shot. Beyond that, I find the word 'blurb' distracting, the profile for the 'mechs is weird, oversimplifies the options for loadouts while placing unnecessary constraints, and honestly the spacing in the profiles is way too much.
  19. Whenever I post in a topic and then nobody else does for a few days, I worry that I killed it. Like, what if my last reply was so incomprehensibly awful that no one has any words? What if no one has any words because I took them all, glued them together like some terrible third-grade art project, and used them to desecrate the very concept of language - without even knowing I was doing it?

  20. Not really, no. The concept itself is deeply rooted in a flawed, disorganized idea, and no framework can really support it.
  21. Yeah that's basically what these turn into. If I played it would only be because I personally witnessed Nazeem annihilating a troll, and want to share the beauty of that with everyone while reveling in an incoherent mess of an RPG. EDIT: I accidentally a verb
  22. Your second two paragraphs address none of the points we raised, and the first one almost gets to the point in the first sentence before taking a detour down Memory Lane - and no, we don't want to hear about your past bad ideas. Your current one is quite enough to be getting on with. Frankly, it would almost be easier to go with the opposite of your third paragraph, if the idea were viable at all (it still isn't). Players can project so much of themselves onto protagonists, and protagonists are generally made to allow that (hence the popularity of silent protags like Samus Aran, Link, and Gordon Freeman), so it's nearly impossible to distill such a character down to a purely canon form and still have anything of interest left over. NPCs, though? Everyone who has been to Whiterun knows who Nazeem is, and while it's my own belief that he deserves far less flack than Olfrid Battleborn or Vignar Greymane, his personality is pretty well set-in-stone, so it's not like you can't set out a pretty good set of parameters for him. What I'm saying is, I'm still not in favor of this idea, and I still think it will crash and burn, but if you make it I'm going to play Nazeem and you can't stop me. EDIT: As for the second paragraph? Allow multiple versions of customizable characters. Nazeem just hamstrung Yoshi with a lightsaber he took off of Galen Marek's corpse, all bets are off and the universe is burning - what possible harm could a showdown between two Dragonborns and three Shepards do?
  23. Yeah, also that. That was a pretty big problem in Reality, in which I was like fourteen and my posts read like if the worst fanfiction you'd also seen was also written by someone who was incredibly lazy and had trouble deciding what they were a fan of.
  24. Trans-universal travel is so extremely not the issue. The issue is that such a concept lets the novelty of the idea of Pacman and Samus Aran interacting stand in for good worldbuilding, management, and control. As someone should have said of Reality back then, it's a terrible idea and can only end in tears.
