  1. I know this is a somewhat late response, but wow, thanks everyone! Especially Pomegranate who took the time to write such a detailed response! I can see that you're very observant as so many of the things you said were things that I was thinking about while making this. As for those who wanted to see a neutral position/wire frame shot I'll see what I can do!
  2. I don't think I've seen any, but I'd consider designing/modeling one for the right price. Here are some other things I've made: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/3dprintedmasks
  3. Thanks! I love Bomonga's mask as well; his and Gaaki's were definitely the two hardest to rework from their original forms but I feel like I managed to keep the feel of the original while also greatly improving upon it. Not sure if you noticed, but because his mask is the mask of growth I tried to incorporate a tree pattern into his mask! I actually tried to think about all of the mask's power's when designing them and if you look closely maybe you can figure out what I was thinking with some of the others Thank you! I definitely love having my team sitting up on my shelf to look at. I actually just used some matte black spray paint as primer and then just picked up some "DecoArt" Acrylic paint from my local craft store. I had to get a couple of them for the gold color and mix em together to match the Lego gold, but I was actually able to find a silver color that matched almost exactly! To finish it off I used a matte clear sealer (spray can). I know a lot of people like using the "made specifically for models" paints like citadel but TBH you can find ones that work just as well for a lot cheaper.
  4. This piece has been a long time in the making and I'm glad to finally be able to show it off to you guys! I made it in entirely from scratch in Blender 3D and did the editing in GIMP. Here is a link to my Deviantart page where you can view it at full size and even buy a print if you'd like to have this bad boy hanging on your wall: Link Feel free to zoom in and see all the small details in the armor and the grungy texture of the metal. One of the things I'm really proud of with this piece is the inclusion of the muscles, something that is often left by the wayside when making Bionicle artwork. I thought it would kind of make sense to have the muscles look a little more artificial and having them also be Gali's complementary colors helps them pop and add visual interest to her color scheme. Another interesting decision that I made with this model was to actually hand draw the eyes rather than having them be actual geometry. I decided to go for a more cartoony look for the eyes because I felt that it allowed more room for expression than the mechanical eyes that I've tried in the past. Aside from the face the model is actually fully rigged and ready for animation - the muscles stretch and contract when the limbs are moved and the pistons and various other pieces all function as you would expect! this was a big undertaking for me and was something that I felt was really important to include. I'm not actually an animator though, so I probably won't be making any videos with this model. If you're into animating with Blender though feel free to shoot me a message and I'd be open to letting you use the model provided you credit me! Thanks guys and I hope you enjoyed seeing this!
  5. This is something that I've actually been done with for quite a while but never got around to posting so I'm super happy to finally be showing this to you guys! Some of you may remember seeing this render of the toa Hagah from a fan project a long time ago; well I was actually the one to work on these toa and design their masks! Ever since that render was made I've been asked countless times if I would ever make 3D printed versions of them and I'm happy to say that that's exactly what I've done! I couldn't just settle for copying my original (and now very outdated) designs, however, and decided to give all of them full revamps. An astounding amount of effort and time went into these masks and I think I can proudly say that they are some of the highest quality 3D printed masks that I've ever seen, fitting in perfectly with the other two toa Hagah that were lucky enough to have official sets. But enough with the talk! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves! Flickr Albums for individual masks: Pouks, Kualus, Bomonga, Gaaki I also have an unboxing video: link and of course here is a link to my Shapeways Shop where all fours masks are available for purchase! Link
  6. I actually got an offer from someone which contains most of these, so I'll be taking that. For the remaining few I'll just use bricklink. Thanks though
  7. Edit: I got an offer for most of these pieces, I can probably find the remaining few on bricklink. So I've been looking for some parts and was able to find a good chunk of em on Bricklink. I'm having difficulty, however, finding a single seller who has a decent number of these. If you have a few of these and are willing to sell them it would be very helpful! thanks. looking for: X1 X1 X1 X1 X1 X2 X2 X1 X2 X2 X4 X4

YES! This is so beautiful. The reds in the background with the Ignika are super nice and really make the image pop. And the energy coming off the staff of fusion really makes the image look a lot more dynamic. If I were to critique anything it would be that he doesn't noticeably have his trademark curly torn cape, and that while I realize it was a design decision derived directly from the set I'm not 100% sold on the belly armor. Regardless of those minor things this is still fantastic, and I actually might put this as my phone wallpaper if you don't mind!
  9. I just have to say, although I ended up voting for groundskeeper, I also really like #3 and hope it's able to move on to the next round!
  10. First off, this is the first large MOC I've made in a looong time, like years! Haha. But anyhow, I was really exited to make this, and even more so since a real life buddy of mine (Oreo'M) agreed to also work on an entry alongside me! His isn't up yet, but we took our pictures together and it should be up sometime soon! I seriously advise you guys to look out for it because it is terrifying XD Anyhow, on to the MOC! Reaper King Carnus Ungue Entry pic (Large) Pic #1 Pic #2 pic #3 pic #4 pic #5 As you can see, the poster I used as the background wasn't quiiite big enough. I was going to edit them like I did the entry picture, but I ran out of time, so you guys will have to suffer through looking at my wall, haha. Spooky Halloween backstory: A being of supreme intelligence, and yet one of unmatched malevolence, he has spent millenniums brooding deep within the furthest reaches of the wraith-world. For the most part he has left his accursed work to the droves of reapers under his rule, but about once every century, a mortal whose spirit is dark enough to be worthy of his highness is born. When their time comes, they soon realize the bright light they see at the end of the tunnel is not emanating from a heavenly abode, but rather from within the ornate robes of an otherwise shadowed figure. As the light becomes brighter, the distant screams of those long dead can be heard emanating from his cloak, and their now flesh-less fingers seen futilely clawing at his chest. Unable to move, speak, or look away, there is little that can be done to prevent their fate, and the icy claws of Carnus Ungue make short work of his victims. With another soul to fuel his inner flames, and another head hanging from his waist, he returns to his throne to contemplate his more kingly duties. Hope you guys like it, and best of luck to everybody with the contest!
  11. There is some nice artwork in there, but the lack of clarification on how he had to do with each of those along with no credit/explanation given for makuta/Megatron is a big turn off.
  12. I personally used a thin layer of black primer then acrylic over that. I'm no expert when it comes to painting models, but from what I've read acrylics are easier to mix as well as easier on your brushes, I've also painted several masks (and even a full figure - Nuparu) using them, so that's what I would suggest. But do your research and decide for yourself.
  13. Wow! It's great to see that the first shipments are coming in, and thanks for the pictures! That's actually the first time I've seen it in the detail plastic, and I have to admit that the translucency looks pretty fantastic XD Do you mind If I use these pictures on the shapeways page? And BTW, is that frosted ultra detail? or just frosted detail? Thank you! I would have made the masks available in the metallic materials, but they were modeled with the design specifications of the plastics in mind, and as a result doing so would require a physically different model. I also believe printing in plastic is generally better suited for this type of model because the masks have a lot of details that would likely get lost if printed in metal. What do you mean by "design specifications"? Do you mean wall thickness? Wouldn't that just make them more expensive than they deed to be (because Shapeways charges by the gram and metal is stronger than plastic and so could be thinner than in your plastic-optimized design)? Why would details be lost if printed in metal? I have SO many questions! Thanks. Nice pictures Toa Tupac. I like the frosty-trans look, It cries out for some Sharpie pattern to make it look like stained glass. Yes, wall thickness is the biggest one. While it would seem that metal is stronger, and as a result could have a smaller wall thickness, it actually isn't as fine as the plastic, so it actually needs to be thicker.
  14. Thanks guys! In response to Aanchir, I agree as well about the pictures and am sorry about that. I hold myself to a relatively high standard when it comes to painting and photographing my models (as you can see in my ignika topic), but in this situation I , unfortunately, wasn't able to do either. There's still the possibility that one of the people who ordered the mask might be nice enough to send more images though, and if they do, I'll update the topic immediately!
  15. Yeah. It's very solid. The strong and flexible seems somewhere in between the metru masks and the flexibility of the glatorian masks. The detail plastic forgoes that flexibility for a crisper print, but it still feels very strong. I can't see the piece being damaged without you actually trying to break it (or if your print was poorly designed and you have long thin unsupported walls, then it could snap off I imagine, but that would be more of a design issue than one with the material.
  16. Hey Maph! That's the detail plastic, although tbh I would have done the paint job differently to preserve its smoothness. The print lines were actually pretty much invisible XD
  17. Thanks! That was actually one of the first things I wanted to see as well... thing is, it doesn't look very good XD The new Bionicle designs as you may have noticed use relatively small masks when compared to a lot of the metru and even mata ones. This mask is about as big as 08 Takanuva's and as a result putting it on G2 Lewa makes him look kinda like a bobble head. XD I was looking through my old messages though and actually found a (blurry) pic of the mask before it was painted on a Turaga Lewa MOC my friend made! he also provided me with a couple of size comparison pics, so I'll add those to the gallery! I'd also Like to add that I personally like the mask best on the Mata head, which you can see here: http://s1164.photobucket.com/user/00dude00/media/Miru%20redesign/download_20150318_213741_zpsieibe4c0.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 size comparison (08 avohkii): http://s1164.photobucket.com/user/00dude00/media/Miru%20redesign/download_20150318_211850_zps5a5h9ie7.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 size comparison (original): http://s1164.photobucket.com/user/00dude00/media/Miru%20redesign/download_20150318_211854_zpsx6owayib.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0
  18. First of all I'd like to say thank you to those who have already purchased a mask! I hope you enjoy it and I can't wait to see any possible paint jobs you might give do! Speaking of painting the mask, If you want your mask to have a similar texture to the Ignika, then I suggest using a method called dry brushing. If you look up dry brushing for miniatures or figurines on Google you should be able to find a plethora of videos/articles discussing the topic. Of course there are other ways of painting it that are perfectly viable as well, and if you even just want to leave it in whatever color you ordered it from on Shapeways that's totally cool as well! Thank you! I would have made the masks available in the metallic materials, but they were modeled with the design specifications of the plastics in mind, and as a result doing so would require a physically different model. I also believe printing in plastic is generally better suited for this type of model because the masks have a lot of details that would likely get lost if printed in metal. I actually have PMed a good number of people who have showed interest in the past, and I see a few of them in this thread actually! For Blender tutorials, I used to use a site called Blender Cookie a lot, they have some great "Blender Basics" tutorials. Another site that comes to mind is Blender Guru. Other than that, randomly searching Youtube videos or even just jumping into the Blender Wiki can be of great help. IDK how experienced you are with 3D softwares, but if you're a beginner try and stick with it! It can be hard at times, but in the end it's worth it! good luck I can't promise beautiful pictures, but I'll try and get some up! The Miru actually has quite a few on-head pictures in its topic. The Ignika does as well, but I admit that those are a little zoomed out. As Gonny pointed out, yes, it was painted using a dry brush method. The exact measurements I used was 4.7mm "diameter" and for the extensions from the plus, they start at 1.97mm and taper to about 1.36mm. This website is helpful: http://www.robertcailliau.eu/Lego/Dimensions/zMeasurements-en.xhtml I also used a digital measuring caliper accurate to a hundredth of a millimeter on several plus rods and took the averages for my final measurements. If anyone is interested, I'm willing to make the .obj file of the rod available as I know how annoying it is to get that right! XD Hasn't that one been painted? These are both really cool. Thanks for making them available on Shapeways. I saw some other cool models in your brickshelf folder leftover from BNG like the Hagah masks. Do you think those might at some point be made available on Shapeways too? I just don't know if you're the one who modeled them or not. These guys? http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/bioniclereviews/images/c/c2/Hagah_Toa.png/revision/latest?cb=20110119184238 yeah, I modeled all of those masks myself except for Norik's and Kualas' (Kualas' was a collaboration). Those masks are very old though and were not made with 3D printing in mind, so they would need to be remade. I am however open to commissions at the right price (note that a commission would be more expensive than these masks, as the cost would include the design process), and if you want one of those masks, try shooting me a PM and we can work out the details. As Letagi said, this would be better suited for a repaint, if you are interested in a remodel of the mask though, feel free to send me a PM Again, thank you to everyone else! My buddy also said he would send me some comparison pics with the Miru, so I'll update its gallery with those soon and possibly edit them into this post or a later one!
  19. A long while back I posted a topic displaying two kanohi Ignika that I had 3D printed. I ended up keeping one for myself and selling the other to a friend, but since then I've gotten a lot of messages asking if I could make the model available on Shapeways so that anyone could have one. I didn't do this earlier because The model actually had a slight issue in that the plus rod needing sanding to fit properly and I didn't want to sell lots of copies of the model in that condition. Recently, I made a model of a redesigned Miru and using more accurate measurements was able to get the plus rod just right. The original model of the Ignika also had a slight defect in the fact that one of the cylinders on the side of its head was not copied over properly. Both of these issues have now been fixed, so I've decided to make it available to you guys. For more details on each of the masks available for sale, here are their individual topics (note that the Ignika one is very old, and as a result, dead): Ignika: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/4354-kanohi-ignika-voya-nui-online-game-style-real-mask/ Miru: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/17954-3d-printed-miru-redesign/ Here is my Shapeways shop from where they can be purchased: https://www.shapeways.com/designer/00dude00 I thought I'd also point out you can view either mask from any angle on their respective Shapeways pages. If I've left anything out, or you have any questions I'd love to hear them! Also, If you do buy one of these, shoot me a PM once it arrives! I'd love to hear any feedback or even see pictures if you can. Toa Tupac has kindly provided us with some (very nice) pictures of the Ignika in the translucent detail plastic: http://imgur.com/a/AXstz
  20. Some of you old timers may remember me from a fan project that went on waaaaay back when to create 3D media for Bionicle called Bionicle: Next Generation, or as the guy who made the 3D model which was later turned into a solid bronze vahi (http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/17169-solid-bronze-mask-of-time-human-scale/) and 3D printed a voya nui online game style Ignika (http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/4354-kanohi-ignika-voya-nui-online-game-style-real-mask/). A few months back I was with a friend who shares my love of Bionicle and he showed me a redesign of a Miru he drew. Since his birthday was coming up I suggested that I could model his design and get it printed. As you can imagine he jumped on the idea and after a month or so of on and off work I finally had a final model, and a couple weeks after that his present arrived in the mail from Shapeways. I unfortunately forgot to ask him to get some pictures of it before he painted it, but with that aside I really like what he did with the white paint and I feel it gives it a tribal feeling reminiscent of those early years. Here is the Photobucket gallery: http://s1164.photobucket.com/user/00dude00/library/Miru%20redesign inside it are also some progress pictures (that are pretty bad quality I must admit as at the time I was just using them for feedback from my friend) as well as some of the original drawings my friend did. I apologize for not having better quality images of the mask itself, I'm just using what I have. After seeing the mask, me and my buddy were really happy with how it turned out, so we thought we might as well make it available to anyone else who wants one! I have a topic discussing the details of obtaining that along with my old Ignika model (which I am now also putting up for you guys on Shapeways) right here: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/17955-3d-printed-ignika-miru-redesign-for-sale/
  21. Wow, vahkiti, it's been so long I didn't think I'd ever see this printed much less turned into a full blown metal mask! It looks absolutely incredible. You and your friend did a fantastic job, and I can see a ton of effort went into this. Glad I could be a part of something this cool, I only wish I could see it in person! XD
  22. hey, just curious, do you know what blended box mapping is? I myself hate uv unwrapping things (especially bionicles.. ugh XD) and I noticed that none of your characters have image textures. If this is a factor, then I highly recommend you look it up, what it is is basically blender internals cube mapping (remember that XD), but it blends the angles, so you don't even notice it's a generated texture. usually doing a combination of two glossies with different roughnesses and using a mix node with the image texture you're using as the mixing factor (the less rough one being the white areas) as well as a simple bump node plugged into both (still using the same image) can get you a really easy and quick texture that looks decent, it works best with black and white images though, but if you want color on your characters you can always just pop in an rbg mix (color) node before it goes into the glossy shaders. good luck on your comics, i can see improvement from when you started and hope you can continue o improve
  23. I've always wanted to make an organic glatorian, so a few months back I started on a project to make Kiina as I imagined her to look. It's taken quite a while, but I finally finished and have something to show! A lot of people may not like this, because it strays very far from her set representation, but hopefully some of you will be able to look at it as just one way she might be represented. Any feedback is greatly appreciated, thank you! high res: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/816136s/Kiina3D/kiinafinal.pngIt is all made in blender, except the sky, which is stock from prints-of-stock on -Sorry, no mentioning of sites with forums-Please link to images over 500 kB. -B6
