  1. IMO the strongest candidates are Vastus and Atakus. Vastus because, as others have stated, he may believe that creating a new world order for Velika to rule would be in the interest of the "greater good". Atakus because--- ignoring those swords, which I think are more of circumstancial evidence that shouldn't count for much--- he had the right personality for it, but unlike Metus and others, was not shown to have any personal ambition, any desire to carve out a place for themselves. Atakus is the perfect spy, and I don't think that a spy who drew attention to themself would have been good. This is why I don't think Metus is a good candidate. Tuma isn't likely because he was shown to have a strong personal devotion to the Skrall as a race; we saw his POV and his interior thoughts and he had no ulterior motives. Kiina and Berix I would rule out because I doubt Greg would turn one of the movie's main heroes into a secret spy like that. Raanu I think was too distrusting of *all* Great Beings to ever side with Velika. Stronius was too loyal to Tuma to betray him like that. Malum and Surel were too isolated from society to be effective spies.
  2. Yeah, I agree with most that Arka sounds nice. I'm not sure why there's a non-canon poll, though. As for Motara, I just don't like the sound as much, but I can understand the rationale behind the word considering its past usage.
  3. I'm going to chime in from a perspective that I don't think anyone else in this topic has come from yet. I became a Bionicle fan in 2006. I had some of the toys in 2005, but didn't care about and possibly didn't even know there WAS a story. Once I became interested in the story itself, I learned the basics of the '06 plot, realized that I couldn't understand anything from that alone, went to the Bionicle website, and watched the 01-03 story year animations. That helped not very much. Through a combination of scrounging through old product descriptions from older issues of Lego catalogs, playing almost all the online games then available, finding some of the books in my school's library, and reading the comics online, I somehow managed to grasp the entire story with ALMOST no big misunderstandings. I was then, and have been since, a lore fanatic, which probably made it significantly easier for me to do this than most other kids in similar situations, including my friends who introduced me to the series and were promptly outclassed in lore knowledge within a few days. A similar thing happened between us with Pokémon, and years later, and with a new set of friends, MLP: FiM. And Starcraft. Getting back on topic, one lore issue that I did mess up was, iirc, the fault of the comics. Iirc, at the end of the '05 comics, the issue of the Visorak and Hordika is dealt with, and then they move on to the beginning of the '06 story WITH NO TRANSITION AT ALL. I understood the nature of the 04-05 storyline as a flashback told by Vakama, and I was under the impression for the first half year of being a part of the Bionicle fanbase that the '06 story was a continuation of that flashback. I was trying to figure out how Jaller and the gang turned back into Matoran from Toa. The point is, despite to this day never having played MNOG (ohmygawdhesneverplayedmnoghesnotatrufan)(geewun), I was able to fully assimilate the Bionicle series into my heart and mind. Similar things occurred with Star Wars (I have never seen the movies, and I read the "prequels" first, before the original trilogy, but I definitely know more about the EU than the average casual fan), and Transformers (I don't own a single toy, but Beast Wars is probably my favorite animated action TV series ever), but in all of these cases iirc I am the exception that proves the rule. Most people don't have enough interest to pick up every little detail of a fanbase they are joining late, and most kids getting their first Bionicle sets in 05-10 definitely did not care enough to research the Island of Mata Nui and the Quest for the Masks, terms definitely irrelevant by that point in the franchise for newcomers. It really doesn't work to make a franchise that is so wrapped in layers upon layers of lore that you can't pick it up without being required to understand all the past history, because you lose 80% of latecomers (except for the ones who only care about the toys and not the story) to boredom. The overall point I'm making has pretty much been said over and over again by everyone else in this topic; I'm just saying it again from a different perspective and with different support. Happy Gregorian New Year.
  4. Eh.... I don't know about that. I'd have to review that section I guess. But to me, "Teridax" and "desperate" are not generally two words that go together. He might put on a front outwardly for strategic purposes, but inside I tend to think of him as chillingly calm and calculating, always confident in his core. This was also after he'd abandoned his original plan with the Vahi in favor of the Plan plan, after being protocaged. Certainly he still wanted it, but desperate I don't buy. Especially given his lack of use of things like mind reading when facing Vakama later, as has been discussed out in past topics. He was almost always perfectly serene and mastermind-y, but I think this is one of the two instances where, in some way, he wasn't in control. The other one was in the Kingdom, right when he realized what Matoro was doing. He knew he couldn't win, and it showed in him emotionally. In the Time Trap incident, he still seemed calm, but he was worried inside, I think, because the big three-way fight wasn't Planned, and there was of course that thing with the possible destruction of the universe later. Even if he was still calm during the first part, I'd think he wouldn't hold back, just in case. He must have known there was a possiblity of something dangerous happening with the power of Time involved.
  5. It's not completely sexist, it's just another example of a trope common in nearly every single boy-oriented action series with a small group of main characters. I think this was mentioned already- look up "The Chick", also known as "Action Girl" or "Smurfette Principle".
  6. Re: Onua being "nuturing" just as Gali was... Well note the descriptive adjectives for them in the '08 retrospective video. All the other Toa have somewhat adventurous words applied to them... Tahu is "Courageous", Lewa is "Agile", Kopaka is "Powerful", Pohatu is "Mighty". But Onua and Gali are "Wise" and "Noble".And Helryx was kinda over the top at times. She wasn't crazy or evil, but she always thought she was right.
  7. *cough*Teridax*cough*Some additional info about Greg not being sexist- remember that we were explicitly told at the start of the "Guess the GB" contest that it was NOT a female for the reason that Greg didn't want to ruin a strong female character by revealing that she was secretly a guy all along.
  8. Oh Mata Nui. Oh sweet Mata Nui, yesyesyes. I will forever adhere to this epic idea.
  9. Dangit, I meant Tehutti in my earlier post. I think I got them confused because of Vhisola's darker blue color scheme.Anyways, considering Vakama's actual personality, it makes sense that he wouldn't try to figure out what his mask did because he never wanted to be a Toa, a hero, or anything other than a quiet and humble craftsmatoran. Even as a Toa he constantly showed self-doubt, so its likely that he never considered the idea that he could possibly be one before.
  10. I almost commented that it would be the "official" definition of nature, that is, there is a real definition of Rahi, something that all these creatures definitively have in common according to the laws of the universe... But then I remembered that that definition doesn't exist. Come to think of it, for what species other than the Matoran is there a possibility of them having any sort of collection of knowledge that would result in them having their own definition of Rahi? Are there any candidates at all?
  11. Nice italic s there. And if the Huna is relatively expensive compared to other masks, then why was it so common in the first place? Or did Vhisola amd everybody else just have powerless something-elses in the shape of Noble Hunas?
  12. Would he? I mean, he threatened to imprison a member of the Order for an undefined period of time and deliberately let a villain go free just to annoy said Order member.
  13. A while back I went on a spree of researching characters that Bionicle actors had played in other franchises, so now there are certain ideas that I can't get out of my head because those two characters together are just so epic- Teridax has a Russian accent (Ravage), Matau always yells things (in a mean way, not the Woohoo he usually has in canon- I got this idea from a certain meme perpetrated by one of his actor brethern), I always think of Nokama as sounding somewhat... Derpy....Original ideas that just popped up in my head on how they sound? I often go back and reread the ending of Dwellers in Darkness out loud to myself because I really like how Helryx sounds in those quotes with a British accent, to complement Teridax. Vezon I actually don't think of as sounding deranged- to me it seems like it should be something along the lines of G1 Starscream.
  14. Well, there is a reason after all that Toa of Magnetism, Iron, and Gravity are so endangered (relatively speaking, since Toa as a whole are endangered). While it's true we might never see most of these things happen in canon (assuming canon ever gets started again) beause of how lethal they are, against the Toa Code, it would mean that a story revolving around Zaria sometime before Teridax's reign would be very interesting. Oh, the things he could do...
  15. We can sort of have two definitions of Rahi- the official definition, encompassing all those that actually are Rahi, and the Matoran definition, based on their knowledge and opinions.Regarding Keetongu, his species's status of being made by the Makuta does mean that there is at least a basis for classifying them as Rahi, a starting point where someone, real or fictional, first got the idea from, even if the species aren't Rahi in the end. Also, some of Keetongu's actions at the climax of WoS are somewhat bestial- his single-minded determination to take down Roodaka and Sidorak, being hit by Roodaka's attacks and falling only made him angrier, he killed Sidorak without a second thought even though Sidorak hadn't even hurt him yet at all, etc- these kinda show that he does act like an animal at times, so the Rahi classification isn't entirely unjustified even if the definition is slightly off of what it should be.
  16. I meant during the main 07 story, and besides that he didn't even make them his slaves in DiD, he just immobilized them so he could get away, which is a pretty underwhelming use of that power the way I see it.
  17. Well, for them, wouldn't "the sky is blue" be a completely new idea?
  18. Yeah, probably him or Johmak. I can think of reasons why all the others wouldn't work- Hydraxon's just a jailer, Botar sort of is just the jailer's assistant, Jerbraz is invisible, Tobduk is mentally unstable. We don't have very much characterization for Johmak, or even a definitive picture, but Trinuma isn't terribly important to the main story either, so there's no reason to rule either one out because of that.Edit: I started writing my post before Infrared posted, so I didn't see his post and when I said "him" at the beginning, I meant Trinuma.
  19. As a side note on the powerlessness of certain villains, Takadox didn't really use that hypnosis power enough. IIRC, he didn't use it ONCE on any of the Mahri.
  20. Interesting concept and very well written, but do we know that Matoran sweat?
  21. Oh, and the Vahki animations. And on the Mata Nui rising video, there's one part, amidst all the rock and other debris falling off his body, where it shows a comparatively thin piece sliding off a ledge before breaking in two. One part falls off, while the other stays on. It always irritated me how that little piece of rock was just sitting there on his shoulder or whatever, and I see it every time I watch the video.
  22. The Inika to the theme of "Move Along" really gets me every time I think about it, and "Gravity Hurts" is just epic, but there's one song that just can't be beat, though sadly it's not there anymore...Do you knooooowwwwwWhat it takes to be a herooooWhen you've loooostA piece of love, a piece of youDuhduhduhDo you havvvvvveWhat it takes to beat the fear that'sDuhduhduhIn your heaaaaartTo grow up strong, and undo wrongTo grow up strong, and undo wroooong...Duh duh duhDuh duh duhDuh duh duhDuh duh duh duhAnd at the end of the 2003 animation, how the heroic music kept playing until you closed the page...And "Creeping in my Soul" honestly scared me with the ending...And the Toa Terrain Crawler on bioniclestory was very epic...And when the movie of Mata Nui rising was up, just, just... Wow...Oh, and the 2008 retrospective had its own nostalgia...
  23. We don't know that for sure, right? I thought there was actually more evidence (or maybe a direct statement) saying that the GTGBs had a hand in making (or modifying) the planet.Well, we don't know that they even exist. It's more along the lines of IF they existed, then they probably made it.
  24. I don't think the analogy to a virus works very well. Viruses are contracted from outside sources, like malicious emails or websites, and besides that one cannot force quit a virus as it is not a part of the computer in that way. I see villains as more of a cancer, but that's not a computer analogy. And what do you mean by "Makuta may be above it all as they were on the same level as Mata Nui"?
