  1. Do we have any canon info that might indicate a time-range? I'd imagine there'd be a distribution in the times that specific Matoran, not just Ga-Matoran, could hold their breaths for, as evidenced by Taipu being stronger than other Onu-Matoran. Presumably it's variation in organic components which can be trained, and we know that Toa and Matoran have organic lungs so it's plausible. I also remember reading that someone here got the impression that regular Matoran could hold their breaths for a bit longer than humans. I don't know about those sources per se, but if anyone knows any please let us know. It seems that the average time a human adult can hold their breath is somewhere between 1-2 minutes (a quick look didn't yield a more specific number, but it's probably out there for anyone who wants to search more). It seems like most people can fairly reliably train to go to like 4-5 minutes, pro divers can usually do like 10, and the current World Record is astonishing 22 minutes and 22 seconds set by German freediver Tom Sietas in 2012. My current headcanon on time ranges is: 3 min for average Matoran / Toa 15 min for average Ga-Matoran / Ga-Toa 30-40 min for trained Ga-Matoran / Ga-Toa, i.e. fisherwomen etc. 1hr as the extreme pinnacle of what Ga-Matoran / Toa can do. Obviously all of these times go down if the diver is having to do any form of exercise. I'd love to read your thoughts on the matter, and any canon evidence you can bring forward
  2. If I were good enough to do so, I think working in the Hand of Artakha would be great. You'd be making such cool things and the island of Artakha seems like it would be a nice place to live. Once it was disbanded, I think I'd like to go to Metru Nui, since the other organisations would probably have a higher risk of death/injury than your average life in Metru Nui, seeing as: 1. The League of Six Kingdoms had the Barraki as their leaders, and we all know how lovely they were. I think there'd be more corruption there than in Metru Nui. 2. Brotherhood of Makuta is a no-no. Even before they went full-on evil, they were already pretty creepy and arrogant. Not the kind of people I'd want as my superiors. 3. Dark Hunters are a pretty cut-throat type of people, I'd constantly be paranoid and having to just look after myself. Too much hassle lol. 4. Order of Mata Nui...well, you'd probably be doing wrong things for the right reasons. Helryx is a good leader, but the organisation did some pretty brutal things, even if they were for the best. And then there's the risk of dying on a mission of course. 5. Forming my own group is certainly appealing, but I think I'd find the existing infrastructure of Metru Nui too appealing.
  3. This is too funny not to exist. And considering Axxon and Tiribomba already exist I don't mind.
  4. Agree, Toa of Earth. I love the idea of an Onu-Toa digging super fast lol
  5. Not everything in the MU is metallic. Whilst it's all Protodermis (atmosphere and a few objects aside), a lot of it is Protodermic rock and other non-ferromagnetic material, which seems to behave pretty much like normal rock and other normal non-ferromagnetic material. So if you shoot at them with rocks or energy they wouldn't be able to affect the projectile directly. But, since most beings have metallic protodermis as significant parts of their bodies, it makes them very dangerous, especially to Makuta, since even a small hole in their armour can lead to their Antidermis leaking out (explaining why the Brotherhood tried to eradicate them). You would basically be able to do what Magneto does to Wolverine. Reminds me of Blood-Bending too. Actually, a Toa of Iron (AKA Toa of Metal) would be even more dangerous in the regard being discussed here, since they control metal in general, whereas a Toa of Magnetism would only be able to affect certain types of metal (like Iron or the Protodermic equivalent). Really, a Fa-Toa combines some of the metal-manipulating threats of a Fe-Toa with some of the electricity meddling effects of a Vo-Toa, so in that sense they can tap into aspects of two very powerful abilities.
  6. I think it's entirely possible, I'd assume it's the case (although Protosteel may work in unforeseen ways). I don't understand what you mean by it explaining why the Brotherhood didn't eradicate the Vo-Matoran though? A Vo-Toa wouldn't be able to do anything with the magnetised metal anyway. At best, they would be able to magnetise a non-ferromagnetic metal in order for a Fa-Toa to do something with it, so not really a direct threat in terms of magnetic attacks...
  7. If it were a continuation I would strongly object to Teridax. Since it's almost certainly a reboot, I'm not completely opposed to the idea of Teridax being there. Depends on how they reboot it. But definately not for the first year. It's been a while, but I wouldn't want the return of Bionicle to default to Teridax straight away. Save him for later when Lego have gotten a feel to how fans have reacted. Since for most people Teridax is basically synonymous with Makuta, I don't think there should be a Makuta for a villain in 2015. I would be more open to the idea of a different Makuta later on though. As for the Makuta actually existing in the new universe, I defo think they should in some way. They're such an important part of the lore they need to be acknowledged to some degree, preferably with a Makuta as a character in some way
  8. I like the combinations in principle, even considering that they were rare occasions. For my the problem comes down to the fact that the combo sets looked so ugly. If they looked cool I think Lego and the fans would have felt better about them, and we would have seen them more often. So, assuming they looked cool, I'd have been happy to have them and have them used more. Since I like them in principle (they're dramatic metaphors for unity too) I'm gonna vote yes despite the objections I mentioned
  9. Huh...never noticed that one...Cool!
  10. In terms of sheer power, a Toa Nuva is known to outrank normal Toa. They even need to have the brunt of their elemental powers outside their body, as Nuva Symbols. So, they are definitely the most powerful team. They are also very experienced and effective together. Tahu Mata with the Golden armour beats any Toa in terms of power though, but since the question said team that's what I voted for.
  11. "A Makuta did not assign a level seven Rahkshi to a task unless he was deadly serious." Perhaps: unless they were deadly serious. Makuta can be male or female after all.
  12. What form would you want the story to take it Bionicle returns? I would definitely choose a New story on Spherus Magna, after a long time. There’s so much already in the Bionicle lore that doing a hard reboot by retconning things seems a total waste of golden material to work with. As for a soft reboot, like “same universe, different time/place/characters” seems like the best choice. It will be a fresh change, but still have links for old fans to latch on to. Some characters, like the Bionicle Poster-Boys Tahu and Takanuva, may need to still be around, or at least, well accounted for. We want to know where all our beloved characters are and why some may be missing. What about the unfinished serials? I would finish them, but keep them IN the main story. Old fans want to know what happened, and deserve to know, I feel. Just tying up loose ends like that with no benefit or effect on the new story doesn’t make sense, since all Lego would get is gratifying old fans. It makes much more sense to instead gratify old fans, and have the serials link in different ways to the new story, killing two Gukko with one stone. What do you want to be the core driving force of a return’s plot? Perhaps I should have voted “let LEGO surprise me”, but I didn’t because I feel it is important for LEGO to explore some of the unanswered areas they have hinted at and set up. Very broad things, like the wider Galactic Universe (the worlds Mata Nui explored), the Solis Magna system, and more of the Great Being’s place in it. I’m not saying they should answer the questions, but expand on them. Take Halo for example. The Forerunners made the Halos and their technology is all over the plot, but the Forerunners themselves remained in mystery in the games, really until Halo 4 where they were expanded on through the Librarian, Didact, and Prometheans. Basically, since I think they should stick to the same universe, I think they have a prefect selection of general things to explore. As for the particular stories that move into those areas, I’m happy for LEGO to surprise me
  13. Well I'd say it's possible in theory, the Holograms suggest that. But, I can't see it being easy. I'd imagine it would only be something he could do with great difficult and maybe some special circumstances, not just like a turn off/on gig. He might be a bit OP otherwise. But judging by the evidence and my hunch, I say YES to doable, but NO to easy.
  14. "They stole the weapons and killed several Va before they found the way out," Can the Va really be said to be alive? They're robots really, like the Bohrok, right? Maybe you should say destroyed instead? It's occurred to me: since Koronga's swords are non-Protodermic solids, they must be some of the most valuable things in the MU. I bet a lot of beings like the Makuta would love to get their hands on them to study them. Oh, I noticed in Chapter 1 or 2 Koronga refers to a plant as Bamboo. I know the MNOG actually called a bamboo-like plant bamboo, but none of this is on Earth. The term "bamboo" bugs me a little, I know it's easier to say babmoo, but it breaks the immersion a little, like the term "humanoid" etc. maybe just describe it a little. Also, you describe the Bahrag as looking like "tyrannosaurian" as well as the Rock Steed before, same thing here. Still, loving the series!!!!!!!!!!
  15. ALJDHASLDJHASDJHASJKLDH MATA NUI! MATA NUI! MATA NUI! MATA NUII!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O_O Cool to see a completely non-canon episode, nice use of the Faber files! I really liked this episode, I'm still a little confused on what the alien culture was about, but one would expect that we're likely to find out at least a little more about them? Also, it's occurred to me how deadly Koronga can be with his shapshifting power. Even if he can't imitate powers, being able to turn liquid or generate spikes basically instantaneously (unlike Makuta shape shifting) is a HUGE assest. So long as he sees an attack coming I think he could deal with most things really. Also, did you explain his RS Sword's power source? Protodermis may enable virtually infinite powers, but surely it still need a power source? I guess you could say it's power source can vary from electricity to heat to life energy (so Koronga could overeat to recharge his sword)?
  16. I always imagined them as Chirox's attempt at a series of cheap, but effective military assest. Basically designed to be very good at killing and good at causing cause, which is what the mutation would be for. I imagine it got popular with the other Makuta and he made more, and they eventually decided to make it a big part of their military. I don't think it was really planned from the start to be for the military, or to be part of Teridax's plan.
  17. YES! The dialogue of the Kestora is one of the best things you've written for the DoB so far! It's so hilarious but consistent with them. Reminded me a little of Monty Python slightly for the ridiculousness. It's interesting that you made them seem a little crazy this early on though. Two things that I think could have been better: 1. When we see them in canon, I think Greg mentioned that part of their creepiness is the way that they just think of our characters as objects and so don't consider their feelings. I think it would be better if they always referred to Koronga as "it" instead of "him". 2. I'm not sure whether I really want this, but when they say something like "except on Tuesdays", do we have any evidence that MU or SM weekdays are like Human ones? On the other hand, that line was really funny because it felt like it was tapping, but not breaking, the fourth wall. It actually made me laugh out loud Interesting how the Red Star revived him despite him not being a GB/Artahka-made Matoran. I had wondered at the differences between Koronga and normal Matoran (aside from his Intuition). It seems any physical differences are extremely minor if the RS can't differentiate him. Really, really loved this chapter. Probably my favourite so far!
  18. By that reasoning, I guess you could say anything can "run programming", just be either being there (1) or not (0). They don't actually run 1s and 0s...that's the thing about superposition, they can do both simultaneously. Called Qubits instead of Bits. This guy explains the principle more clearly than I can say. Great channel too btw, if you're interested:
  19. Water vapor... Greg confirmed it's a molecule. That upcoming protodermis theory I keep teasing is primarily aimed at exploring how it can be a molecule. Er, sorry to be blunt, but what properties do you have in mind that make it seem at all like a mere atom? Last I checked, atoms can't run programming. You'd need a super-advanced molecule, approaching the multiple-molecule complexity of a cell, to do that. 1. Have we ever seen Liquid water-type Protodermis evaporate? I don't think we ever have 'cause that would be cool. 2. I never knew it was confirmed as a molecule, I always figured it must be, but it's cool to know that know that. 3. Has the Protodermis molecule ever been confirmed to run programming? Or did you mean something made of a single type of molecule to run programmes? Because that's totally possible. And atoms CAN run programmes...sorta. Check out Quantum Computing, they use quantum superpositions that can run certain types of computing significantly faster than conventional Bit using computers.
  20. It's confirmed that MU beings don't run on electricity, so I don't think the would be any more vulnerable to EMPs that humans really. For things like the Vahki, I don't think we really know how they work, so maybe for them it would be a threat. But no, EMPs wouldn't really work. It seems like MU inhabitants run on more exotic power sources. It's implied that actual "life energy" plays a part (the kind of energy the Ignika uses). I'd imagine they do have electricity in them, like humans, but not as a major feature, like humans.
  21. So, just a few confusion I've had for a while, regarding Takanuva's actions in MoL (maybe not the book, I haven't read it). In the film, Takanuva goes to confront Teridax in his lair, and, since none but the Turaga knew about Metru Nui, his only motive would have been to stop Makuta from doing all the evil and destructive things he had been doing, with an extra stake of avenging Jaller's death, plus he probably would have assumed that beating Makuta was part of his destiny. Now, maybe he was initially confident that he could beat Teridax, although it seems crazy he would want to take on a Makuta that the 6 Toa Mata could not collectively handle so soon after becoming a Toa. So, first question: 1. How much time did Takanuva/Takua wait before going to face Teridax? The film makes it seem like he went to Mangaia within like a day after becoming Takanuva, but this seems crazy to me considering that it took the Toa Metru so long to really master their new forms and powers. Sure, he would have had the Turaga and Nuva to train him up, but there's no evidence of this in the film. It'd be like going to face a game's final boss without completing the tutorial level! Now, granted, he is a Toa of Light, and so his powers are very effective against Shadow, but I understand that Shadow is likewise very effective against Light? So if the Mata/Nuva's non-opposite powers made made the fight like a fist fight, where you can usually hit your opponent a good few times before they go down, wouldn't Takanuva and Teridax's 'opposite' powers make the fight into more of a knife fight, were one good blow can mean game over for either side? I get that Takanuva is basically an anti-Makuta weapon, but surely Makuta are also anti-Takanuva weapons. It would have just heightened the stakes. I get that Makuta in general would be pretty scared that you have a new player on the field = that can basically use a metaphorical knife against them, and someone like Teridax would be much for defensive as a result, but Takanuva's Light powers were still Toa-level, and a Makuta's Elemental Shadow powers always seemed to be on a higher tier than a Toa of Shadow would be. So: 2. Why would the Brotherhood of the Makuta be particularly scared of a single Toa of Light? Really, the Makuta should, in my mind, still win in a one vs. one like 3 times out of 4, so I don't see why Takanuva was so terrifying for them in general as just one guy. Can someone justify it for me in other terms? Considering all of the above, and just general common sense considering a Makuta is a serious threat to anyone (let alone Takanuva): 3. Why the Karz did Takanuva think it was a good idea to summon ALL the Matoran into Maktua's Lair?! What if he had lost the fight? Makuta would have had the Matoran right there! Sure the Toa Nuva would have probably been fighting a battered Teridax and thus won, but it seems so irresponsible of Takanuva to risk things like that. Surely, if he was so keen to fight Makuta alone, but was still worried that he might lose, it would have more sense for him to have the Nuva on standby to finish Teridax off? Even if Teridax's plan required Takanuva to be alive for later, there was no way for Takanuva to know that. It seems like it was just a lazy way to force the Matoran to return to Metru Nui, but since Takanuva wouldn't have known about Metru Nui, I cannot think of a single good reason to get Hahli to summon the Matoran.
  22. "Soon I found another fish, and I shapeshifted into a larger sharklike form to capture it" -- Maybe change that to Shark-like? I wouldn't say "shark-like" has been used enough to really make it its own word. "It was the only known material that the natural protodermis would not eventually eat its way through like acid" -- You mean Energized Protodermis right? Not natural protodermis, because that doesn't have acidic qualities (for the most part). It's a shame there isn't an image of a Rahkshi of Heat Vision without the Golden Hau in the background. No other official images have as good a pose, but it's a shame. If someone happened to maybe make some adequate art would you use that instead?? ;3 ""And so with majority agreement, I deem us the Brotherhood of Makuta," Miserix said." *fangirl scream* I have to disagree. I think it's really interesting, and it would be useful for a new reader, and definitely deserves to have a place in the story, even if it's non-canon. however I have to partially concede the point, in that sometimes it feels like an awkwardly placed infodump. Maybe spread the information out over longer time periods, and smoothen the writing style more for such relatively heavy sections
  23. MAKUTA!! >:3 "My gut twisted into knots." Is this really an appropriate figure of speech? I mean, do we know if they even have guts? Oh, and I REALLY think a deeper character reflection on good an evil is necessary. Good and evil can often get subjective. For a character that refers to the two so often I'm suprised there hasn't been a more in depth discussion on the matter. Maybe have him consider why he regards certain things to be good and bad and regard the wider society of Spherus Magna/MU in relation to this. How have his past experiences affected his perceptions of good and evil? Even if he just innately had a sense of set morality, make a point of exploring that? Also that "anyways" habit is bugging me a bit. Do you think you'll change that eventually? :3 "Ga-Metru would be the best choice of residence, but all Ga-Matoran were female" maybe add: so I would stand out too much or something like that? Just to be clear. And I know it's a kinda weird topic for Lego and I'm not decided myself on whether it's a good idea, but maybe also clarify that Koronga has no physical gender. I would have thought it would have been something he would have thought about especially whilst on SM?
  24. I think this sentence could do with a clean up: "Others existed in Metru Nui and elsewhere that were designed to make Matoran. Artakha apparently had made one that could make Toa, although I wasn't sure, because he could have just made Toa directly thanks to the Mask of Creation the guide said it had been entrusted to him." Liking it so far, very interesting to see your theories in action! :3 Also: "Others became organic protodermis for the mucles and other organs" You mean muscles right? I don't know why I find it funny that they're 3D Printed but lol XD I guess I picture it as a moulding machine in a Lego factory XD Punctuation needed here: He could not keep watching forever, and neither could I they had to know how to survive on their own." so how about: "-neither could I: they had to know how to survive on their own."
