  1. Well, so far the Toa have done the following: Arrived on a mysterious islandReceived tutelage from wise elders who guided them through their first challenges, then inexplicably vanishedFought a bunch of spidersGot upgradedFought a boss-spiderTraveled to a new areaFought a bunch of skeletonsMet a new tutorFought a boss skeletonGot upgraded againSince the storyline's followed basic RPG rules so far, it's safe to say that they'll be fighting wild animals and bandits in the woods. Orcs and evil wizards to follow. Because you, know...these Toa are
  2. Used to have them all the time, usually to the following scheme: In a nondescript department storewander through toy aislesee a HUGE heap of Bionicle setsOld ones, rare ones, limited edition ones, etc. (most of which never actually existed)dig through them, overwhelmed by nostalgia and suchpick out a choice few to buyI'd never make it to the checkoutWe're talking 2-3 dreams like that every couple of months. Of course, they skyrocketed in the summer of 2014 for obvious reasons.
  3. Wowee...time to break out the old tacklebox, lol. Let's see... 1x Kanohi Miru, Tr. Lime Green2x Kanohi Vahi, Old Gold1x Kanohi Vahi, Bright Orange1x Kanohi Ignika, Pearl Gold Man, that box has a few memories in it... Anyway, aside from that handful of rare-ish masks, I can't really think of anything
  4. Huh...so my brother-in-law being hospitalized and he and my sister's home being defaced the next January had nothing to do with the fact that he was Sikh after all! I can't wait til I tell my Nephew! It'll be pretty easy, too, cuz the school he goes to now is 15 miles closer to my house than his old one. Man, guess those kids who broke his arm for being a "terrorist" just needed some of that famous post-9/11 intercultural unity! What a great way to respond to a positive comment. And what was positive about it? 9/11 didn't "unify" America in the slightest! It turned millions of American Muslims -- and everyone who looked like they could be Muslim, like my family -- into targets for next-door terrorism. That statement does worse than ignore the fact that American men, women, and children are being brutalized for their faith. It pretends that it did not and could not have happened because "oh boy howdy weren't we all just one big american family now?" Just because it sounds nice and gives you the warm fuzzies doesn't make it "positive."

  6. Aanchir, we don't always see eye-to-eye, but dang, you hit the nail on the head here
  7. This Ice Planet-themed MOC. The hardest part was getting the Orange Transparent Chainsaw to "work" right in a figure-scale set (though I did finally hash it out)
  8. Oh my god...Nightwish would do something like that.
  9. I mean, a thin acrylic primer will literally do the same thing, but has less risk of chipping and won't ruin the mold definition ("round-out" the edges). If you have a Wal Mart or any hobby store nearby, they'll have white acrylic paint in stock for far less than white-out. Just mix 2 parts paint with 1 part water (or 3:2, depending on the particular brand) for quick-and-dirty primer.
  10. Good luck finding one. Thanks to the McToran and Metrutoran, there isn't a 2001 mask you can't find on BL, and given the hardness of the 2001/2 mask plastic, those are the only ones you'll want to modify (barring damage and such) Are 2001 masks in great condition rare? Not at all! Like I said, with all the recolors from the McToran, finding a Miru, Akaku, (noble) Huna, Hau, Kakama, or Pakari is easy as can be. Just hit up Bricklink. Do an Advanced Search, and set your filters as follows: Item Types: partsCategory: Bionicle, Kanohi MaskYear: 2001Seller is located in/ships to: [your region & country]And that's it. Good luck! I like the work you did on that rode! Have you customized any more masks since then? I wish. Financial circumstances have prevented me from procuring new masks, and I've given away or lost most of my duplicates over the years.

  12. The primary problem I've been having is that the '04-'10 masks use a fairly soft plastic formula that makes getting a clean edge very difficult with a rotary tool. Unless I can get directly onto my cut with a grinding bit and a buffing pad, I get a nasty "burr" around the edge (visible in the left eyesocket in pic #2 and on the cut in the final pic). Do you think that "tempering" the plastic would help with that at all? I have a heat gun and icewater readily available.
  13. Haha, well if you want to ship me some, I'd be more than happy to oblige!
  14. A good while ago, I got a new puppy. As puppies are wont to do, he started chewing on everything in sight. Unfortunately, I had a habit of leaving the occasional Kanohi mask on the floor. If you're a smart cookie, you'll put 2 and 2 together... ...and come up with this. Now, I hate throwing out Bionicle pieces, no matter the condition, so I stashed this busted Rode in a drawer for nearly two years before I remembered it and decided to put it to good use. I got out my trusty rotary tool and went to work. After all, it was already broken, what was I gonna do? Break it more? The fruit of my labors. Not too horrible if i say so myself, though it could use a bit more polish here and there. What do you think, BZP? Is this acceptable modification, or is it... ABSOLUTE HERESY?!
  15. Hate to commit Thread Necromancy, but I recently purchased one of these bad boys myself and some changes have been made to the design that really impact this review. First - and most inconsequential - is that the LED in the sword has been changed from blue to red. Secondly, the Hordika limbs in the shoulders are now DkStoneGrey rather than black Finally - and most importantly - Decool has completely changed the mold for the ballcups used in the set. The bootleg now uses CCBS-style ballcups rather than the ones that were prevalent during the original's run.The biggest implication for this change is that the bootleg's joints are now more durable than the original's. While the other issues you mentioned with the set (variability in the tightness/looseness of the axle connections) still persist, I'd highly recommend Difficult Ninja Robot: Ultimate Flame as a "parts bin" of sorts as he comes with a great number of Keetorange CCBS ballcups and a variety of other pieces that are currently unavailable. On a bit of a tangent, did you notice a sort of "softness" when it came to the features of the mask itself? When comparing the bootleg Ignika to the silver one from Toa Ignika, the features definitely show a lack of definition. I think this might be due to them using the official mask as a negative when making their mold.
  16. Onua actually has a 2m bone for a neck. Check the online instructions!
  17. I got the Protector of Herbs & Spices and the Protector of Jungle today. Gotta say, I was disappointed by the "combiner" models, so I made a few adjustments. Not gonna post those here on account of i already made a new thread about custom ProToa combiners in the Bionicle Creations board.
  18. The current official Protector/Toa (ProToa) combiners, while interesting enough, have one common deficiency: they stink like a Toa of Dumpsters went nova. To amend this, I went to get a couple of Protectors and combined them with their respective Toa. I wanted to make the combinations easily reversible from the Toa's side, incorporate elements of both Toa and Protector tools, have some Skull Spider integration, and be done only with pieces from the Toa and Protector sets. Here's what I came up with. Pohatu + Protector of Herbs and Spices Stone http://i.imgur.com/xEZ5NLW.jpg This one's my personal favorite of the two. The projectile weapon is identical to the official design. It looked nice, so why change it? I made the armor on both arms symmetrical, and fashioned a pair of "headdress" shoulderpads to accentuate a "tribal chieftan" look. To this end, the tool in his left hand is a double-ended War Rattle. Lewa + Protector of Jungle http://i.imgur.com/gJSwu7e.jpg Not much to say about this one. The clawed feet are a shoutout to Lewa Nuva's MoL design. What do you guys think? Do you have custom ProToa combiners of your own to share? Edit: Images linked; please keep posted images in BBC to 640x640 pixels and 100 kB, about. -Wind-
  19. ruh roh, you'd better drop that leaked content before B6 comes in and removes it for you 0_o
  20. you need to upload a picture to imgur or flickr, hit "image" on your post editor, and copy the url into it. That, or paste the direct embed link into your post
  21. Well...no, no it does not. We already (partially) know what the Mask of Ultimate Power (MoUP, as some folks are calling it) looks like, as far as a silhouette goes, and the newly leaked mask doesn't resemble it at all. See for yourself Notice the flaps apparent on the sides? Compare the known silhouette to that of the Newly Leaked Mask and you see the lack of similarity. Leaked content removed. -B6
  22. That's one I've done many many times. I always built Whenua as the shortest, and Matau and Nuju as the tallest. The others were as instructed. I've tried modifying Lewa in the way you described, and it just doesn't work that well :/ If you use the pieces included (the new 2m pin with 1m axle), his collar ends up occluding his arms and prevents them from swinging. If you use 2m pins w/ bush, it only slightly reduces the occlusion and leaves the torso really gappy and unpleasant. Plus, lowering his gearbox gives him a weird "stinger" I'd really like to replace Kopaka's chest piece, though, but as far as removing the printing goes I'm not sure. It looks really cool in person, and removing it would make him seem really bland. The gold is also a lot less ugly in person.
  23. Do any of you have favorite tweaks you've made to your sets? Little re-arrangements you've made to your sets that don't necessarily qualify as revamps or mocs, whose only purpose is to make them "feel" better? For an example, I submit this "Mermaid-tail" configuration for Gali's fins. Her instructions put two axles on only one of the fins, and they pin together perfectly to make one fluke she poses very gracefully in this configuration, and it gives her another layer of complexity. What tweaks have you all made to your favorite sets?
