  1. Maybe however Voporak has his time dilation like a field and it seems to increase in effect the closer you get to him. Also when the Mask of Time was cracked in Time Trap it was referred to as "time energy" so Whatever Voporak is doing to distort time you could argue it could be using Waves with with direction and Magnitude. (Vectors) Of course if Voporak's powers work more like Hollywood Voodoo then Accelerator can't defend against that if there is no Vector to return. However there is also Accel's Black Wing and White Wing mode where he get's wings made of Dark Matter that exponentially increase his calculating ability and he takes on the properties of an angel. And gains the ability to manipulate "imaginary vectors" and "laws unknown to him" whatever that means. So I guess it's an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object debate. I'll got with Voporak if no one else has any supporters due to the nature of his power being hard to quantify.
  2. For the eight year old comment, it's actually not a hard concept, while the word "entropy" sounds scary, it's intuitive to explain to people when things get old they break/die. That is how they explained his powers in a Lego Magazine I got. Besides the Bionicle series has always had some advanced concepts. Most eight year olds don't know what plasma is, The Vahki have various mind hax powers(Motors skills and sense of time.) One creature in the novels was made of sounds, and was killed by created a vacuum. (Since sound can't exist in a vacuum, etc.) I could give multiple examples, most of the kids that are into the Bionicle lore are nerdy,(Besides you could still play with the action figures without caring about the in universe powers or lore.) As for the statement about time is entropy. That is basically what I was saying but more drawn out, I was trying to debunk some misconceptions of the people in the thread I link to in the beginning. So will you check out the Vs thread pretty please?
  3. What are some of your guys favorite fictional verses. (As in universe or multiverse.) Feel free to give multiple (It can be ordered or not.) Feel free to also tell why.
  4. I'll admit I need to catch up on my anime, someday I'll do a bunch of binge watching. Most of my favorite franchises are light novels where the anime adaptation is mediorce (Like A Certain Magical Index.) A lot of anime is an adaptation of something nowadays now that I think about it. Anyway if I can classify anime under the broad anime/manga/Visual Novels/light novels then I have a few favorites. Ghost in the Shell Appleseed Nasuverse A Certain Magical Index Hunter x Hunter Steins;Gate Robotics Notes Death Note Cowboy Bebop Spice and Wolf Wolf's Rain Full Metal Alchemist(Both interpretations.) Serial Experiment Lain Psycho-Pass Toradora!! Durarara!! Xam'd Last Exhile Some anime on my to try list include: Princess TuTu Berserk Revolutionary Girl Utena JoJo's Bizarra Adventures Bacanno HST(Eventually they start slow but I hear they get better.) Fairy Tale Gundamn Evangelian Rounin Kenshin Fist of the North Star And some others I probably can't remember right now. Also are any of you interested or familiar with A Certain Magical Index (As in not just seen the show but are into the Manga spin-offs, and Original Light Novels.) If so check out my first Arena thread it's Accelerator vs Voporak: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/22202-vs-arena-thread-1-voporak-vs-accelerator/
  5. Any want a nerdy conversation? My threads are dying.

  6. Any want a nerdy conversation? My threads are dying.

  7. I didn't go into much detail about Voporak's abilities but went into a great detail about Accelerator's because I assumed that most Bionicle fans would have a better understanding about a Bionicle characters abilities however it appears that may not be the case since I'm seeing some debate, confusion, and a little misunderstanding on the nature of Voporak thus I'd made this thread: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/22218-setting-the-record-straight-the-nature-of-voporaks-powers/?do=findComment&comment=1063316 I'd recommend checking it out before commenting. If their is some confusion about Accelerator's powers I'll go into more detail but no one is debating it right now. Bumping....it's been 30 days. Still have 30 days before this thread is dead. (I won't count my own replies as posts that keep thread dead.)
  8. I was looking through old threads, and saw a topic I wanted to give my thoughts on but was unable to do so due to it's age and the rules regarding reviving a thread so I decided to give my thoughts on the topic here: You can see the offending thread here: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/12862-which-powers-can-affect-voporak/?hl=voporak The reason I make this thread is I believe there are some misconceptions on the nature of Voporak's ability based on the contents of thread, thus I seek to rectify these misconceptions. First thing we must do is establish what Voporak's Powers are, Now obviously his power has something to do with Time, as he can create a temporal field and sense changes in the flow of time. (Due to the Kanohi Vah.) However that leads to an important question. Just what did the staff mean by the word "Time." I believe this is where the misunderstandings arise. So what is time, well according to the Scientific community. (Some are split on what exactly this means but most are in general agreement.) "time" doesn't actually exist, what we call time is simply out observations of objects moving through Space relative to a certain position. And that "time" is simply one or more dimensions of space. (In truth Space and Time are one and the same.) This is understanding time in the framework of General Relativity. However I believe that is not what the Bionicle verse means when they are using "time" in the context of The Mask of Time, and most instances of the word and concept as the whole in the verse. I believe they actually mean time in a more anthropomorphic, ancient, almost mythological understanding. (Which makes sense given the series undertones which I'll go into more latter.) Time in this sense refers to the "Arrow of Time" or how he distinguish the flow of time and the past from the future. What is this difference. The difference lies in the Laws of Thermodynamics particularly the Second Law. This law states that Matter and Energy in a closed system has a tendency to go from a Low Entropy state to a High Entropy state in an attempt to reach thermal equilibrium. (It's why Heat "flows" into Colder areas until both are a uniform temperature unless maintained and isolated from "outside the closed system" an example would be the earth being supplied energy from the sun, without this constant intake of energy, energy on earth would eventually even out and grow stagnant into a High Entropy state.) If you think about it this makes sense in the context of the Bionicle Lore. The three most powerful mask in the Mataron Universe are Creation, Life, and Time. (As in these three forces are the most important and without them the universe would fall apart.) If you think about it all three of them are the three principles most important in understanding closed systems. (The Great Spirit Robot is in essence a self-sustaining closed system, as it was created by the great beings it makes sense they would want to emphasize the rules at work in complex organized systems.) Creation - The Act of putting into order a functioning object in the first place, Life - The Changes and Staving off of entropy to make the system function and perpetuate(Even if in this sense it's in a non biological reproductive way it could be seen as the whole of the Mataron universe as a giant organism and it's repair and maintenance and adapting is the "Life", and Time - The tendency that all things will eventually wear and break down without repair and is in fact inclined to do so. (For example a puzzle(Or a Lego creation.) Will not magically form from individual pieces, however it takes very little effort for them to brake apart and lose their organized form. (Indeed to actually put the pieces together in any complex or meaningful way requires outside effort where it no longer becomes a closed system.) In other words, Voporak does not simply "Speed an objects motion up" or "Fast Forward" otherwise as many people in the other thread pointed out A laser, Gravitational, or Magnetic Wave attack would simply hit him faster not disperse, in same way he should even be able to destroy physical structures, like boulders or weapons since if his power works like General Relativity then it would just make the rocks reach him more quickly. In addition many people in the comments (correctly) state that lasers and Gravity and EM waves don't lose power with time but with distance and the waves hitting objects and other waves per Netwon's Laws and they are right when talking from a standpoint of general relativity. However Voporak cannot create particles to simulate weathering and erosion. (Otherwise his method of defeat by Teridax should have been a non-issue if he could create things out of thin air, but he was unable to since "no amount of time passed would create air where there is none." Thus we are left with the only logical way his power makes any sense is if what the Bionicle verse calls "time" is simply the effects of the "arrow of time." Or making an object go from a Low entropy state to a High One, Turn Order into Chaos. Speed up the Law of Thermodynamics to get closer to Thermal Equilibrium where the energy is stagnant and dissipated and unable to pose a threat to Voporak. Now for some other claims raised by the previous thread comments. One is that Magnetism and Gravity should have worked due to Teridax using Telepathy to dodge Voporak, and reasoning that he must be unable to effect wave attacks since he is unable to dissipate telepathy. Well my answer is that Voporak did not know Makuta was reading his mind and even if he did could not see the telepathic waves or see any signs or tells that Makuta was using them. This makes sense if we assume Voporak can choose what object he "ages" in his field. Seeing has he doesn't turn the ground to dust and fall through it where ever he goes and doesn't deaden all sound and can hear orders from The Shadowed One, this seems a safe assumption. Which means he must identify an object before he can chose to "Age" it. If he noticed his body being binded by Gravity or Magnetism no doubt he would quickly disperse and weaken the waves. As for powers like Anger, or Fear, in the comics and Mask of Life film whenever the Rakshi use their powers they point with their staffs and send an energy projectile. Since the Rakshi's power's come from the Makuta is reasonable to assume Teridax gives a tell that can be read so it's possible to evade or defend against if one has the right tools. Another thing to consider is using a Vacuum to defeat Voporak is a rather indirect way for Teridax to defeat him, since Teridax has 42 Rakshi powers in addition to his strength, shadow hand, and intellect. It's reasonable to assume that powers such as anger, fear, magnetism, gravity, etc would have been unable to effect him otherwise Teridax would have used those, at the very least he was unable to come up with a creative way to use them that might bypass the time filter while in the heat of battle with both Voporak and The Shadowed One. (Seeing how Teridax was injured, lost his wings, and used such an unusual tactic we can assume this is one of the few times Teridax fought seriously and did not hold back as Both Opponents at least together could give him a run for his money and needed to take out the person that could track the Mask of Time which HE NEEDED, at least temporarily.) Thus we can assume based off the context of Voporak's feats and ability description, the philosophy of Bionicle, and Teridax's actions that Voporak's powers are more based on speeding up the Second Law of Thermodynamics and increasing entropy then time powers in the sense of Time Travel, General Relativity, or Alternate Time Lines. As for attacks that can beat him, perhaps anything either immune to the effects of entropy or something with more energy then Voporak can dissipate at a safe rate, perhaps someone immune to entropy or has control over their physical and molecular structure. Similar types of reality warping hax like probability manipulation. If you enjoyed the read check out my first Vs Arena thread where I pit Voporak Against another character with a very Hax like physics bending Ultimate defense Accelerator: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/22202-vs-arena-thread-1-voporak-vs-accelerator/ If you'd like to read more on entropy and the concept of the "Arrow of Time" I'd recommend Sean Carrol's book "From Here to Eternity" he uses cleat allegories and examples so even if your not good with the Mathematics of it, (They aren't necesarily to understand the broad ideas.) you can get something out of it.
  9. I don't either, I asked on the QnA forum where I'd post such a thread and they said to post it here.... Now have anything to say about the content of the thread itself, think of it has a fun mental excercise.
  10. Never mind I figured it out, I just use tumblr images from now on.
  11. How do you post pictures in the threads. I tried to but it said it was against the rules or something. (Sometime about not allowing that extension.)
  12. I wanted to start a series of threads where we discuss who we think would win between Bionicle characters and characters from other verses, not which ones you WANT to win, but who you think would win. To keep the thread interesting give not only who you think would win, but why they would, how the fight might go down, and what trouble the other opponent might give them. Also I wanted each thread to be it's own match-up (Similar to comic vine.) So please keep it at the two characters introduced on the thread please. (I also prefer the characters to be comparable, so please avoid making match-ups where one is an obvious stomp, I prefer an interesting discussion, not a spite thread/worship thread of your favorite characters.) Now in corner one we have Bionicle's very own Voporak: In the other corner is a guest from a light novel series with various Manga and Anime spin-offs known as A Certain Magical Index or To Aru Majutsu No Index as it's Japanese name....Accelerator: For those that don't know the combatants capabilities I'll link to their wiki's and give a brief explanation of each. Voporak: http://biosector01.com/wiki/index.php/Voporak Accelerator: http://toarumajutsunoindex.wikia.com/wiki/Accelerator What they both have in common is a short of Ultimate Defense which has properties outside of convention durability and can defeat many foes normally unbeatable due to the hax nature of their powers. Voporak was created by the Brotherhood of Makuta to seek out the Mask of Time, should it be created so he could bring it to their leader Teridax. This was done with a combination of Energized Protodermis, various mutagens, and Roodaka's Mutation spinners to transform of member of Sidorak's species. As such he can sense changes in the flow of time, (Like the ones created if the Vahi is used.) At one point he betrays the Brotherhood to work for the Dark Hunters where he appears extremely loyal to them. Voporak main technique a temporal field that any object that comes near him Ages rapidly. (Basically increase the entropy in the system at a rapid rate then the normal passage of time.) A stone will turn to dust from many "years" of erosion, A laser will fade away, etc. The closer one gets to his body the more drastic the effect. (Physical contact being particularly dangerous.) He also can fire spinners that if they hit their target causes their perception of time to slow and fall behind a few seconds. (Basically causing them to mentally "lag".) His Feats include along with the Shadowed One destroying Teridax's wings and putting him in Mortal Danger. (One of the few things Teridax had to fight seriously without holding back.) He was only defeated when Teridax created a Vacuum that suffocated him and caused him to pass out. (While at the same time Teridax threw The Shadowed One into him and caused him to Age 3,000 years.) At one point He eventually got the mask of Time. (Which was the purpose of his creation.) Accelerator is one of the student's of Accademy cities Esper Development Program, the aim is to used a series of drugs, procedures, Mental Exercises, and conditioning to create human beings with the ability to achieve a person reality. (Basically each esper is a low level reality warper that can causes Macro-universe effects by controlling Micro-universe Quantum interactions, each esper can only do so to a very limited field. (One esper can control Electromagnetism for example, another can alter an object's Byouncy, another Teleport via 11th dimension space, etc) These espers were ranked from 0 to 5. level 0's hold little to no power to be of practical use. While the level 5's are at least a one man army. There are only seven level 5's at the top of the list is Accelerator, known as the One-Way Road and later The One Who Wields the Power of God. Accelerator's ability it to control the Vector's of any object he comes in contact with. (A Vector in Mathematics is a representation of Euclidean space that represents a Quantity with Direction and Magnitude.) This allows him once he comes in contact to have a sort of precision based Telekinesis and change the value of an objects Vector as long as he can calculate and comprehend it in both a Mathematical and Spatial way. (Espers in the series have super computer intelligence and it's a requirement to use their powers, an electricity based esper needs to for example know about the science of electricity, more powerful espers are ones whose intelligence has increased to the point of a better understanding of their powers.) What makes Accelerator so Dangerous his a subconscious "Ultimate Defense" where he established a filter that any object that makes contact with his skin if it has the potential to harm him. (Such as a certain degree of pressure, temperature, electric charge, radiation level's, etc.) Is automatically reversed in the opposite direction. (Such as gunfire, explosives, and yes even lasers.) This Ultimate Defense is based on a simple subconscious calculations that he can change at any time like Anti-Virus Software so he can reflect an object even if he doesn't consciously react or is even aware it exists. (Such as sniper fire.) It's so effective that he reflects dangerous Ultra violent rays from the Sun which is the cause of his pale skin and albino appearance. (Based on the author's faulty understanding of how hormones work.) He can do this while asleep. He also can use his powers offensively, such as moving a high speed, lifting heavy objects through a type of tactile telekinesis, controlling air currents, using the earth's kinetic energy to create earthquakes, compressing the wind to make plasma, and even controlling the Motion of objects in the human body. (Such as blood flow, and Bio-electricity.) His weakness is like Voporak he can die of suffocation is left in a vacuum. (He cannot create objects, just manipulate existing ones.) In addition his power his based off his ability to cognitively process vast amounts of data and calculations per second, once when reprogramming someone brain. (Said person's brain is a super computer that controls a network of clones.) He was unable to use his ultimate defense as all his metal faculties where needed for the task of manipulated the Bio-electricity in more complex ways. The result is him being shot, and obtaining brain damage in the areas of his brain that process Mathematics. After this he needed to be connected to an external network known as "The Sisters" (Once he was involved in an experiment that involved him murdering them, before being stopped by the main protagonist.) to be able to use his calculations, the collar runs on a battery, when in "civilian mode" he has just enough brain power to function in society, with a flip of the switch he goes to "esper" setting which allows him the full processing power of the Misaka network, with his ultimate defense and offensive capabilities. The downside is his battery only last 30 minutes before he not only loses his powers but is forced in a mental coma until his battery is recharged or replaced. When on his last leg he has too other options he can "awaken" where he gains wings made of dark matter which do the calculations for him. (Basically a super transformation.) Where he no longer needs the Misaka network while in this form. His calculated power is immensely increased by described as almost "infinite." The Dark Matter wings themselves can disintegrate matter on contact and he can spawn hundreds of them. He is described as possessing the power of an angel at this stage and being able to overwhelm a saint. (Basically saints are people that have magic power where their bodies resemble that of Christs and this can tap a portion of the power of God to enhance their physical bodies and magical prowess, the average saint is capable of moving at Mach 20, destroying Mountains in a single sword fight, amongst other abilities depending on the saint.) This is his "berserk state" and is only active when Accelerator is on his last leg and desperate.) He later gains another winged form with white wings(Still Made of Dark Matter) And a Halo. This form is only active when Accelerator has a moral revelation and he first learns it when he discards his ideals of Good and Evil and thinks only to protect those closest to him. At this point he gains the ability to comprehend Imaginary Vectors, and is described as starting to approach in power Archangel Gabriel (Who is powerful enough to control the motion of planets in the Solar System, control the stars in the sky, And charge up an attack that when fully charged (Takes 30 minutes.) Can turn at least half the earth to ash. It's weaker attacks are Wings made of Ice fused with Telesma (Angel Mana) That can Crush a mountain with ease. There is no defined time limit to either Angel Form though he can only use them for a temporary time. In addition in order for him to reflect or control an object he must comprehend how it works, (When fighting the #2 ranked level 5 who could create Dark Matter with "Strange laws of physics that does not exist in this universe" he was able to breach Accelerator's reflection until Accel "learned" the new laws of physics. He has other weaknesses as well however I'll let you read the link and do your own research. So who wins? Why do they win? How does this fight go down? What troubles does the winner have to overcome?
  13. Hello, I'm dpolaristar. I'm a new member and didn't even know this site existed until a few days ago, (Back in my childhood we had internet till a few years ago.) Obviously I like Bionicle, I mean anyone that is here does. However I'd like to say exactly why I'm fond of it. Most people simply go "Nostalgia" at least on this thread, however that doesn't really answer the question of what draws people towards it. First off when I was a kid, I liked the uniqueness of having non-human characters as well as just the idea of high tech technology in a more "low tech" setting. (This was before the metru saga of course.) While other people were Marvel or DC kids, I was a Bionicle kid when it came to "boy's toys lore" (Though I'm happy to see there are some ladies that like the series, especially considering for the longest time all the female bionicles were 1/6 of the population and all lived in one village, one wonders why there are male and female Bionicles since they serve no reproductive purpose. That being said there are some fleshed out "female" characters and there is no "sexism" in the verse in terms of what women can and can't do. (Although in the verse female/male personalities seem distinct enough that some genders are better suited to other tasks apparently (*cough* Toa of Psionics.) That was a tangent, anyway back to Bionicle, one thing I like (Ironically that others don't.) Is how gradually it went from being a Fantasy epic with Robots to a Science Fantasy Epic with Game of thrones style scheming, betrayal, and alliances. For a toyline aimed at young boys it had surprisingly sophisticated themes and dark tones. (Granted to get the full story you had to read novels, comics, web videos, etc.) I thought how eventually everything you thought you knew about the verse was gradually revealed to be but one part, a cog in the larger machine. I'm also glad (Ironically again) That the Gen 1 series is "over" as know it's plausible to get caught up with the wiki: http://biosector01.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page (Can I just say this is one of the best organized wiki's I've ever seen.) One thing that kinda annoys me is as the series went on it become more and more difficult to know the story because the novels become more necessary and the comics kinda skipped around. (You can tell even if the main lore and big picture was planned from the beginning the actual individual events was written by the seat of their pants.) But the most important things I like about the Bionicle verse is that it's the best example of a Science Fantasy I've ever seen. Not in the sense it's necessarily the best Sci Fi or Fantasy work. But in the sense it's the best combination of Sci Fi and Fantasy were the two elements mesh together yet don't drown each other out, it has a very mystical ancient heroic feel followed archetypes of Myth and Lore, yet the world doesn't feel like the Science is fake. (The Science IS TECHNICALLY VERY FAKE.) But it never feels like how the world works and functions was simply and after thought to serve the plot or things just a generic hero sword or stuff, all of the technology, pseudo science, and laws of the word felt like they shaped the world and the people's culture. This is especially evident in Metru Nui with the Chute system, and the "science" of protodermis, disks, and mask making, and how Metru Nui felt like a city with various niches and an economy. It had higher Education(Ga-Metru), Bibliography(Onu-Metru), Assembly(Po-Metru), Research and Development(Ko-Metru), Transportation(Le-Metru), Production(Ta-Metru). I even noted how the models you could make combining the Metru sets showed a certain them. (Combining Ta, Le, and Po Metru sets to make something when those districts were focused on more practical industrial pursuits while the combined Ko, Onu, and Ga Metru sets referenced those districts being more scholarly fields.) You also see the Science work in the backstory of how the Mataron Universe was created. (Core Wars an obvious real world allegory.) So yeah enough about Bionicle, I also like Science and Technology, History and Culture, Psychology. I'm into the MBTI (INTP if your going to ask.) I like the philosophy of emergence as well as the philosophical undertones emerging from patterns of thought in Science. (Determinism with Newtonian universe until Quantum Mechanics for example.) I also like Various fictional verses and media of course. I don't feel like listing all of them, I'm also a software Engineering. If I could have any super power it would be either Vector Manipulation, Entropy Manipulation, Probability Manipulation, Exotic Dark Matter Creation, powers of that nature.
  14. Welcome to BZPower dude, hope you have a good time and stay a while.

  15. Not related but might as well ask....which thread is the new member thread where I introduce myself, the site is small, but for some reason I have trouble navigating it, some of the threads are titled in a confusing manner. (Such as having like a dozen different QnA/rules threads.)
