  1. Well well well...

Here I am again, back with some more "work" :P

As per usual, each photo will be hidden with a spoiler tag so it doesn't take forever to scroll down. And for those of you that are still oblivious to my Instagram account, I'll link it at the bottom ^_^
Notice that not everything shown here has been uploaded to IG, as I try to stretch it out over the darker and more rainy parts of the year; which means a single post a week with a library of photos to choose from -_-

Starting off with my girlfriend's favorite BIONICLE set:

    FIKOU SPIDER

    GAHLOK KAL

A CERTAIN MASK OF LIGHT SCENE I THINK EVERYONE CAN RECOGNISE

TAHU NUVA RESTING ON MOUNT IHU

    And as the last one....

    LEHVAK AMBUSH

Hope you enjoy these as much as I do :D
If you haven't seen the previous 'installments' and aren't a member of the facebook group, feel free to take a look on IG B-)

  2. Oh wow, this is NICE! I love the effect, you can almost feel the energy radiating around him; and the way it's disturbing the ground around his feet is a really neat touch, too!

I also really like how you convey such life in the character, particularly the way you do it without deviating at all from authenticity to the set design. It's really effective :D

    Thank you very much :D

I think that's because I use a photo of the set, posed in my hand, as a reference - so I get the original set design almost perfect :b

  3. That looks fantastic. Any plans for doing the other Toa?

    ...Pohatu in particular?  :D

    :kakama:

    Thank you very much!

Perhaps one day; have a sketch atm of Lewa Nuva performing a Nova-blast :b

But I am more focused on regular photography, only casually drawing when I feel for it :D

That's fantastic! Do you take requests?

Thank you, but no - when I drew a lot back in the day people started requesting so much it sucked the fun out of it - and now with work etc. it isn't something I do very much anymore unfortunately :b

  4.

I use a simple piece of 3-axle length rubber tubing (like the one used in the Boxor set for instance, just cut to lenght) for the Toa Mata/Nuva and matoran :D

As for the bohrok, I've removed the to long gears, and swapped them with ball socket and the ball joint from the Glatorian lines (if you know which piece I'm thinking of) to get the movement :b

Oh, that's really cool! So simple to implement, yet gives such a great effect :D

Yeah it's pretty simple, but quite effective :D

  5. I think my favourite has to be the one of Tahu Nuva sitting by the fire; it's just such a cool, aestheticy piece... but I really, really like each of the Bohrok and Kal ones, too. I have no idea how you got the heads at angles like that - either for them or the Toa - but it really brings the characters to life in the way that the 'always-forward-facing' default build often fails to achieve. Though the same could be said for the posing in general; you really convey a sense of such LIFE with them, and I love it :D

Really nice work picking the environments for each of them, too; each one makes the characters look so perfectly, believably in their element. Without exaggeration, I think I can genuinely say this is some of the best Bionicle photography I've seen.

I am very happy to know it's not just me that can find some childish nostalgia in this little hobby! :b

As for the environments I've used everything from small clumps of dried dirt on a plank of wood, sprinkled with powdered sugar to recreate a snowy landscape, to real locations near my home - but since Denmark is pretty flat, and the part I live in is almost at sea-level across the entirety of it's area, mountains and such haven't really been an option :b

I refuse to use photoshop to edit the backgrounds I get; though lighting, contrast and such is fair game IMO :)

That's why many of the photos have a more realistic feel, while some others have more of a commercial-kind-of-feel to them :D Especially the one of Lewa swinging, compared to the Kohrak Kal one :D

  6. I love the photos. Specially the ones with the snow and sand terrains . Keep on the good work man ;)

The snow is actually powdered sugar for most of them, as snow doesn't tend to fall as regularly, or be there long enough for me to exploit, because of the climate :D but thanks alot!

  7. Very nice composition and crisp images -- good use of lighting and nature motifs. I particularly like the recreations of old promo images, like Kopaka meeting Pohatu, and I'm impressed by how dynamic you made Lewa's tree-swinging pose look. Great work! :)

Thank you very much Katuko :D

Of course some photos are getting quite old (2005ish when I first started taking photos of my figures) so my 'skills' have improved over the years :b

I try not to take photos that would need photoshop or anything like that, though I usually play a little with contrast, light and color density to get the right feel across :D

  8. First of all, let me say congrats on collecting all the Protodermis Nuva masks. Those can be quite pricey to get your hands on them all.

That being said, your photos look great! The "snow" is very convincing, and the landscapes are beautiful! I think my fav is Kohrok-Kal, just because the sky behind him looks perfect.

Second favorite would be all the Nuva with their depowered masks.

    Keep up the good work!

Yeah it was quite expensive to get my hands on 'em.. :P

    Glad you like them!

Those are amazing!!! I've never seen this done well, but yours look perfect. The photo of the Toa Nuva shows too much of the surroundings, but the rest give away the perfect amount. The Gahlok are my favorite picture; they look like they're stalking the camera, and are very much posed like the classic Bohrok.

Unfortunately I live in Denmark, and it's not exactly like there are mountains around.. :D Have to work with what I can, and I'd rather have a few plants out of proportions, than big buildings in the background :D

  9. Hello again!

Some of you might remember a post a few months ago, with pictures of Gali Nuva and the like, taken in a 'realistic' portrayal of size in our world :D
Well... I've taken loads more since then, and the quality has only gotten better if I say so myself :P

As I don't want to spam the forum with my photos, I'll leave a link for my instagram at the bottom for those of you that wish to see what I get done in the future :b

Even though I know it's actually breaking the rules of usage of spoiler tags, I did it so that people watching didn't have to scroll for an eternity to get to the bottom, but instead had the opportunity to view the photos one at a time :b

  10. These are awesome. The way they're shot, they look life-size for some reason. They're really beautiful, and breathtaking for a nostalgic fan to take in.

    Thank you very much ^^,

The whole idea is to make them seem life-sized, so I'm happy that aspect came across to you :D

  11. Love them! Nuvhok Kal looks like he could be on Mata Nui's volcanic slopes :D

Yeah, could be :D Glad you like them :D

Wow, these are awesome!! :D I love the poses, the lighting, and the landscape. I can’t wait to see more of your fantastic pictures! ^_^

Thanks! Hopefully the folder should be public tomorrow, but I'm happy you like them :D

  12. Hello there! :)

A couple of years ago I posted some pictures that I had taken of several BIONICLE generation 1 figures with my phone.

Needless to say, I've continued that hobby occasionally, mostly with the older waves (2001-2003) but some newer ones have snuck themselves onto my camera roll from time to time.

I wanted to show you the latest pictures I've taken, and as far as I could see this was the part of the forums I needed to do that in, so by all means move it if I am wrong :D

Brickshelf account with more pictures: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=558157

As the folder has just been updated you might have to wait until tomorrow (May 9th) before it's visible.

Well... First off, some of the long-timers might have seen this before - but this is the 'accidental' photo that started it all.

    Lewa Nuva (Normal)

And some of the more recent ones:

Gali Nuva (Adaptive Armor) - notice the rain droplets on the mask and in the air. Took this on my window while it rained, by flipping it 90 degrees.

  13. Around the anniversary date of the Titanic disaster, I told you guys about finally having achieved a childhood dream - and how my wallet suffered in the course of doing so :P

Well.. not that I've changed anything on the ship itself; but I've added some features that I think make the ship look more like a 'generic' model on display, rather than just sitting on a chest of drawers (if that's the correct term).

As with my first topic, I put in a link to my brickshelf account where there will be more pictures to see this time around as well - but as I write this the folder is not yet public (takes a day or two, so should be accessible on the 27th of April at the latest) so you might have to wait a bit.

    Link: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=573715

Enough chit chat - here's a picture of what you can expect to see - but be advised this is my very first attempt at building water in motion in LEGO, so I might change small things with time ^^,

    20180425_102900.jpg

  14. The shaping of the front of the ship is what impressed me the most.

All the detail and attention put in it really show.

    Great job.

I'm happy that you like that part; especially because that took some time... 5 times I disassembeled the entire bow to begin from scratch because I wasn't satisfied :P

And seeing as I invested so much money in this project I wanted to have every aspect of the build to be like I wanted it to :D

  15. Hello there!

At the age of 27 I finally managed to bring a childhood daydream to life which took about 4 months because my left hand underwent surgery at the beginning of March due to a work injury which severed a tendon in my thumb.
Allthough I've made previous builts of this iconic ship since the age of 11, it's only ever been with the bricks I had on hand - so imagine my wallet's sudden discomfort as I found out about Pick-A-Brick... ;)

Around $900 USD and a ton of research via fotos on both Google and in several books later, this is the final product of my current creativity capability.
(Keep in mind the price is only for the new bricks; not including the majority of the hull and it's supporting interior I already had my hands on).

Some liberty has of course been taken, as the scale isn't fit for every aspect of this project, so some parts of the superstructure have been changed for accomodations. Accessories such as benches have also been placed somewhat random.

    Measurements:
    Width: ~16cm (6.29 inches)
    Length: ~156cm (61.41 inches)
Height: ~32cm (12.59 inches) from keel to top of smokestacks.
Weight: Estimate is at around 8-10kg, but won't know for sure until my hand is fit enough to lift it.
Amount of pieces: Somewhere between 8-10.000 bricks.

As I haven't resized the pictures and they would be way to large for me to put them all in this thread, I'll instead put a link to my Brickshelf account where there are more to be found (you might have to wait a bit before the files go public, as I uploaded them today) :b
    Enjoy!
