It has rained all weekend and today (I have missed the rain and it reminds me of Portland!). The roof is leaking, but it's only leaking over my desk. Apparently this is an improvement from when they were in a tent on site and every time it rained they would have to sweep all the water out of the tent. I'm really glad I don't have to sweep water out of a tent, and instead just have to move my desk over a few feet and get another bucket when another leak starts.

This is the minifig I use to check in at work, and I did a update to it. My coworkers approve:

My thumb is doing really well. I've apparently set a new bar for worst workplace accident in the last few years, and am on par to the time a giant LEGO building fell off the moving truck when they were transporting it to LEGOLAND.

The main things I learned this week is that it is extremely satisfying when the LEDs you soldered together successfully light up, and that drill bits should not go into your thumb.

That was my adventure this week! Wednesday afternoon, I was drilling out LEGO pieces to put wiring through for a street lamp, and the drill bit somehow slipped off the LEGO piece and went directly into my left thumb. A super sharp drill bit is definitely not something that you want going through your thumb, and I kind of just looked over at one of my coworkers and was like "help?", which didn't click for him until he looked at my hand and was like "ohgod".

This is when my other coworkers ran over and were also like "ohmygod how what someone call 911 DON'T REMOVE IT FROM YOUR HAND" to which I was like "I'm not going to remove it because there is a drill bit in my thumb and I'm still holding the drill why is this happening also I can't see anything because I'm wearing safety goggles where are my glasses but I can't get them because I can't put the drill down help?????" Yet another coworker detached the drill bit from the drill, which was about when the full realization of what had just happened hit me. Luckily, I have coworkers who are not only amazing but also super skilled at First Aid, and one of them wrapped my thumb so the drill bit wouldn't be able to move.

The rest of my day went pretty much like this:
Sobbing and apologizing way too many times to my boss Ryan, to which he responded "It's ok, we want to make sure that you are going to be ok, we'll laugh about this later". Attempting to remember Pat's phone number so Ryan could let him know what had happened as I was being put in an ambulance. Turns out this is really hard to do when you're in shock, but I DID IT. Riding in an ambulance! Getting an IV put into my arm. Being given morphine, which was weirddd. Having a serious shock-induced inner debate on whether I could convince the paramedic to take a selfie with me (the answer was no because I was just way too out of it at that point). Making up hand and drill puns with the paramedics. This was oddly calming and included the highlight of "So, were you listening to Tool when you put that drill bit through your thumb?" Discovering that my emergency room roommate was a six year old girl who had fallen off the monkey bars at school and hit her face on a bar. She knocked out a baby tooth and had to get nine stitches and was an absolute champ. I would have high fived her but I still had a drill bit in my hand. Having five extremely painful shots of some mysterious liquid injected into my thumb to make it go numb. The doctor pulling the drill bit out of my thumb and going "oh wow, this thing is sharp!" A nurse cheerily bringing back a sanitized and ZipLocked bagged drill bit, "so you won't have to buy your work a new one". Discovering that, oh wow, morphine makes me extremely nauseous, and that it gets even worse when the nurse decides to go super fast with the wheelchair while going to get x-rays. Getting to call my boss and my coworkers to see who can come get me from the hospital and take me home. Also discovering that I somehow didn't hit the bone or any tendons in my thumb with the drill bit. Telling Ryan "yeah I guess I'll come into work tomorrow because I'll be really bored at home if I don't". PRIORITIES.
While this was not the way I expected my third week at LEGOLAND to go, now I have a ton of bandaids, one tiny puncture hole connected to a large zigzaggy puncture hole, approximately four weeks of healing (and four weeks of building with only my right hand), and what I hope to be one crazy looking scar.

Things I have learned in my first week as a model shop assistant at LEGOLAND, CA:
Turn signals are a foreign concept in California. So is going the speed limit. It's either five under or at least ten over. WHY IS THIS. The average teenage lifeguard at a LEGOLAND orientation training is very confused by the concept of an adult liking LEGO and will ask if they need to call security if they see an adult without children walking around. Also being one of five people out of the 75 at training who are older than 17-19 will be weird. When you are asked which high school you go to and you respond "...I graduated high school seven years ago?" you will break their teenage minds. The training book has "Weeks and weeks of fun!" as the subtitle, and they mean it. You will spend fifteen minutes staring at the sculpture you replicated trying to find the one plate that you forgot to add and it will be AWFUL. If you accidentally forget your coworker's name during pizza and beer night, he will show up the next day with a gigantic name tag. There are daily Super Smash Bros. games during lunch and sometimes all day tournaments on the weekends, and your boss is super into them. The corners of LEGO bricks will cut the daylights out of your hands if you are not paying attention while prying something apart without a brick separator. POWER TOOLS. Throwing your glued and unglued creations to test durability during training is common. Sometime either at the end of this week or early next week I get to throw a glued sphere I made off the roof and see how it holds up. LEGOLAND is still awesome 11 years later. The Tahu statue isn't red and orange, he's now red and yellow??? The model shop is stuffed full of crazy cool sculptures and it's super AWESOME because you're just constantly surrounded by super amazing creations. ...and a lot of other things that I'm not sure I'm allowed to talk about yet, but I will if/when I can.

    Yeah!!!

A few weeks ago I applied for a model shop assistant job at LEGOLAND, CA. Last week, I got an email from their HR department, which lead to a phone call asking if I would come down for a group interview on that Friday. I said yes, and Pat and I flew down that Thursday night for the group interview the next day. I did really well in the group interview and the building challenges in it, and a few hours later I did an individual interview. This past Monday, I found out that I got the job! We'll be moving to California at the beginning of the year, which is crazy and exciting and !!!

If I started an ask Wyldstyle tumblr, would anyone send stuff in? There's an ask Rita Repulsa tumblr that is delightful and she uses gifs in her responses, so maybe something like that?

I bought 77 LEGO Friends minifigs off of ebay. They are all sealed factory rejects due to having paint errors, mismatched body parts, etc. They all also have very random head pieces, and going through all of them has been very fun. I am not entirely sure what I will do with all of them, but it should turn out pretty great.

Here is a giant photo of all of them. It is kind of ridiculous.

    Highlights include:

    Bobbi Fett 2x.

    Hilary Clinton!

    Miss Swamp Thang.

ADORABLE HIPSTER FIG SHE IS SO CUTE.

Cute hippies with and without headband.

Today is the last day to register your MOCs and receive printed MOC cards. You can still register them after and be eligible for Brickee voting, but you'll have to make your own MOC cards.

If you register your MOCs you will be as happy as this cockatoo.

    It's been 30 minutes.

Pat and I keep yelling at the phone, but he really can't hear us because he is talking to a customer.

    This is great.

He is talking about Bigfoot with his customer and they are talking about whether there are any Bigfoot horror movies, and I found one and I texted the name to him.

I think now his customer is talking about tornados.

Update: He just texted me "??", about the movie title and I responded with "my spirit animal told me you were curious about thriller/horror movies with Bigfoot", and he responded with "that is really creepy, how did you know about that??"

Bumping this because I need as accurate number as possible.

Quick question. Not counting MOCs that were sent to BrickFair Alabama and are heading to Bricks Cascade, who is sending in MOCs to Bricks Cascade in March or is attending?

I need this tally for something I am trying to get done. I just need to know who is sending in MOCs, not whether or not you might or are not planning to.

    Thank you!
