  1. I honestly wish I could post the picture of her design, but it's on a website I don't think is allowed to link here. :\ Her body build is meant to be similar to that of a greyhound/maned wolf, and her tail is meant to be significantly longer than her body. So it may look odd but it's intentional. ^^ I've always kept the fox elements of the tipped tail and tufted ears, but yes, she's meant to be more fox-like than being entirely accurate to a fox. Her legs have all the proper points of articulation for a canid, her head rotates down a bit, her mouth opens... her tail has quite a lot of points of articulation, but certain poses look better than others because of the way I built it with "fur". Thank you guys so much! ^^
  2. UPDATE: Winner of Bionicle 'Best Non-Humanoid' at Brickfair VA 2015! Click to view gallery A foxlike Rahi seen rarely in the depths of Le-Wahi. Many inhabitants of Le-Koro believe her to be a forest spirit, guarding over the peace of the woods. She was believed for many years to be a myth, with only a scarce few claiming to have seen her - but their stories were later confirmed. A portion of the forest was set ablaze years ago, and she emerged from the wood just long enough to pull some weak Matoran out of the fire before disappearing again. None have ever heard her make a sound and she is believed to be many hundreds of years old. — For those unfamiliar with her, this is my primary character who has gone through quite some transformations during my years here on BZP. Her design and scheme were in existence before this MOC, and so the MOC was built to emulate that as closely as possible. (OFFICIAL DESIGN) Her tail will likely go through some changes in time, but I’m very happy with this first pass.
  3. Bitil, what a sad excuse for a set.
  4. I tend to do the same thing - and what bothers me most is that most people in debate don't actually take the time to think about both sides. They don't consider the opposition before they say something. And usually that means that when they get caught saying something that doesn't hold water, they get butthurt when it's pointed out and the once-intelligent discussion only goes downhill from there. I used to debate a lot on the internet (I still can't help myself on FB sometimes), but for the most part I've given up. I hit a point at which I realized I was the only one actually debating with an open and changeable mind (and my mind was changed on at least one occasion)... everyone else tends to just grab an opinion and chain themselves to the ship even while it's sinking. Debates in person, while also potentially troublesome, are a LOT less likely to end in petty insults and a refusal to listen. And, for some reason, when I realize we're at a fundamental impasse and propose that we 'agree to disagree', they will almost always be OK with that in person, and almost never online.
  5. Good job! Makeup is like an ongoing experiment for me, haha. Not sure if you care for tips, but: try using a lip liner, that'll make the shape of your lips a lot clearer - and maybe try some blending on the eyeshadow. But dang, you did fantastically, especially since it's your first go at it! Also I very much like your hair ^^
  6. I just heard about the Machete Order. 4-5-2-3-6. The more I was told about it, the more it makes perfect sense. Think of 2 and 3 as a flashback, which makes sense as Luke just found out Vader was his father in 5. You get the back story right when it's relevant, and you don't wreck any of the spoilers/twists if you're new to the series. 1 lends absolutely no relevant information (other than a bit of detail about who Qui-Gon is, and the state of Anakin's mother when he left). Ending on 6 is a must because then you end it happily, the way things 'are' by the time 7 comes out (at which point I'm sure it'll tack on nicely). I'll be honest, as far as a movie on its own, I preferred 1 over 2 and 3. Which I'm probably the only person who ever says that. But it really doesn't lend much to the series, and like the previous linked article states, this order keeps Anakin's character consistent and the arc less muddled with other irrelevant affairs.
  7. I've noticed very similar. I've learned a lot about so many things, especially since high school 7 years ago, but even more so in the last few. I've tended to get a lot less bubbly, and that side of me only really comes out when with a couple of people I highly like and trust. Everyone else... I'm in a bit of a shell. Not only that... I've always been pretty blunt, and a long time ago I was very openly blunt. Then I learned to internalize it a lot. Now I very openly call it like I see it, and that gains a lot of repercussions because everyone's getting so much more opinionated (and frankly, that means few are even able to debate properly, so that's frustrating). I don't think it's inherently bad to get more serious. Just make sure you keep giving yourself opportunities to relax and just be silly/bubbly again. I'm also finding that the more opinionated people get, the more it gravitates toward negativity. At the moment I'm trying to learn how to just ignore it - it's not ignorANCE, I'm not denying that things are wrong. But you just can't maintain a joyful lifestyle if all you focus on every day is what's wrong with things. I guess in other words I'm trying to relearn to find silver linings.
  8. I know nothing of Skylanders/Infinity, but given this is looking like a Lego version of Kingdom Hearts.... so exciteeeed.

    BrickFair VA? Hmmm.

I just need to get from the airport to the con/hotel and back. Looking at the flight I'd like to get, I'd need picked up from the airport Wednesday after 6PM, dropped off there Sunday at 6PM.

    BrickFair VA? Hmmm.

I wasn't going to go, but now I'm considering it. The only way that's possible is if I can coordinate with someone on hotel and/or car, so if you're going and you are willing to collaborate on either or both of those, please let me know.

    D&D Monopoly

Not sure if I have the determination to try it, but I like the idea.
  12. Can't believe you're here. geeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
  13. This conversation is a sticky one to get into (especially because, as we've already seen, people imply a lot more than what's actually said)... However, I do have to add that I, too, get annoyed sometimes by ships because they mess with the should-be-equivalent value of friendships. Hetero- or homo-romantic doesn't matter, it's the same point. That's why Miyazaki has so many male-female friendships in his stories that stay "just" friends, because people jump too quickly to "NOW KISS" when friendship is already such a beautiful thing. It's why I enjoy anime like Soul Eater, because regardless of all the 'romantic implications' people can infer, the fact is that these people and their fighting partners have a bond that doesn't need romance to be powerful and admirable. It's not that fictional romance is wrong. It's not even that it's overdone. It's the fact that people tend to overwrite friendships WITH romance, when they really need to cool their jets and realize that what they already had was a fantastic, admirable relationship.

    Cascade

I remember it taking 23 hours straight in a charter bus for a band trip to Hollywood from home (in Washington about 4h away from Portland). So I don't blame you for not driving. XD
  15. ...And I'm so excited, but SO unprepared. There's a last-minute MOC that I REALLY want to do, but I have no time to do it... A commission to finish, work and overtime, an extremely sociable almost-three-year-old... My car is in the shop and I am reeeeeeally hoping it gets back to me before I go. I want to say what I want to build, but I looked it up this afternoon and found that this particular popular video game character has NEVER been done in Lego. I don't want someone to beat me to it. XD I also was going to leave my Angry Unikitty cosplay at home, but I'm wondering if I should bring it.... DFHBSHDFHB LIFE JUMBLE
  16. I know I'm not the only one who would've liked to be informed about this and/or review it before it was put on the website. Good grief, as a staff member who actually gets paid to do this for a living, I would have REALLY liked for one of the things actually ON MY RESUME to actually look tasteful. For the record, you can have cleaner lines with vectors if it was actually done right, but there you have it. Lyichir was right in that the grid is all over the place and, while things line up, that doesn't mean they make any visual sense. There's no guide for the eye to follow. There's no consistent hierarchy or order. It's a flipping wall of blocked-up text. This also is a huge step backward for mobile friendliness, which I thought we were working toward. The social section is double-blocked for no discernable reason. There's not enough contrast between text and header to actually make it aesthetically clear, and I won't even get started on color. Sorry but I'm not going to pretend to be OK about this. I'm mad. At the very least, this is NOT ready to be the default site skin.
  17. How did I know the comments would look like this... I really think most of you don't understand how challenging it is to make a large MOC, especially one that is both sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. Small MOCs take talent. So do large ones, ESPECIALLY in constraction. The detail of this MOC is fantastic, the proportioning is good, and the feel of the entire MOC fits very well with what you would expect of a villain. He's menacing and deserves to be compared to the likes of Teridax, and as I'm sure will come in time, Makuta Gen2. Can we stop playing the 'less money, not fair' card? As someone mentioned before, more doesn't automatically mean better and the build could have looked bad, but she has both the part count and the talent to make it look good. Part limits couldn't be maintained in a virtuallly-held competition, and as smaller MOCs in the finals showed, talent exists in all sizes. If I were to say "if only I were rich and could have amazing horses, I'd be the best polo player in the world" doesn't mean I deserve to win an award riding the neighbor's pony. Stop asking for equal ground because it will never happen. Besides, come on. I really don't think a Toa-sized MOC of any talent deserves to win the largest Bionicle competition in existence thus far. How anticlimatic would that be, especially for younger fans? If Akutahn was shown in the next magazine, people would see it and say "I can see why that won, that's impressive." Put in something small, no matter how well designed, and people will look and say, "THAT won? Shoot, I could have done something better than that." ...whether that's true or not.
  18. Considering how sturdy the rest of the build is in comparison, yes I find them frustrating too. It's a better mechanism for the masks coming off than the simply barely-connected originals were, but it's bothersome to have to put your finger under the eyestalk in just the right way to make any adjustment to the head without having to chase down and reattach the mask afterward.
  19. I know, right? with all the new Bionicle stuff coming, I still want to be a part of getting the magazine, but they just decided we're not allowed to get it anymore. I'm lucky enough to have a toddler I can enlist for, but many AFOLs are flat out of luck, especially if they want the inserts (which don't come in the in-store ones... and I'm sure many others like me are nowhere near a store anyway).
  20. As nice as it is to read that, unfortunately I find it in stark contrast to the fact that we're not allowed to sign up for the LEGO magazine, even a paid version.

    Aging?

BIological or nuclear warfare would go there...
  22. Meeting you first and getting a face to the BZP name isn't so weird. But... then going to the Staff page and seeing you in old photos is weird. So very, very weird.
