  1. I've heard this band/artist before and I cannot remember where, that's gonna bug me. they do a good job here of switching things up right before it would become monotonous. Love the weird voice at the end, I just wish it had come in a little sooner

    4/5

EDIT: switching songs, don't mind me.

I like to think of Glass as an early ambient composer, even if he's technically minimalism

  2. If you trim flex tube to a little bit shorter than a 2-axle -- about 1.5 studs -- you can also do this with McToran. It doesn't do much to improve their neck articulation, but it at least gives them eyes and allows them to bring their arms further forward.

  3. Does "there's a glitch that lets Kapura manipulate space and time" actually strike anyone as a fulfilling explanation?

No, it certainly doesn't. I suppose I should have made it clearer that I no longer subscribe to the theory I posted earlier.

In any case, if anybody still wants to ponder the issue, there's a line I found while replaying MNOG1:

Neither fast nor slow can I cross a bridgeless canyon.

I think that pretty solidly rules out teleportation of any sort. There's no reason a broken bridge would present you any difficulty if you can teleport.

  4. Actually this just made me remember a theory I used to have. IIRC Vakama's visions were confirmed to be the result of a programming quirk that allowed his mind to move forward in time or something like that -- Kapura, on the other hand, experiences a programming quirk of the same nature, but with space instead of time.

  5. Except our reward for keeping LEGO alive with our financial contributions was Bionicle. We don't get another reward for that because it simply wouldn't be a rational exchange of goods and services.

Allow my to refine my previous analogy. Let's say I run a cafe and you buy a sandwich from me. You can't say that I owe you a cup of tea on the house because you supported me by buying a sandwich -- you paid for the sandwich, not for a sandwich and tea. If you want tea, you'll have to pay for it too.

That is to say, we've given LEGO our money in exchange for Bionicle. We haven't given them anything in exchange for specific parts in LDD, so they have no reason to give us those.

  6. Ah, the old "Bionicle saved Lego!" argument. Bionicle is only responsible for Lego's current success because in an era of failed themes and poor management, Bionicle was the least bad. It kept them afloat in a rough patch, but it was only a small factor in their turnaround.

In any case, the fact that Bionicle helped Lego more than a decade ago does not entitle Bionicle fans to special treatment. Lego is more than just bricks, but bricks are their bread and butter, and they're what the vast majority of Lego fans are interested in. Happiness as a Bionicle fan requires recognizing that your particular interests pur you in a small but dedicated bloc of the wider Lego fan community.

This exactly. Bionicle is, and always was, a niche theme, no matter how much it helped LEGO financially.

Also, Bionicle is not an individual sapient entity, so saying that it deserves to have priority by virtue of selling the least bad of any theme in the early 00's, as though it were something Bionicle itself did is...kinda strange. Realistically, saying that "Bionicle saved LEGO" means understanding that the people who wrote, crafted, and designed Bionicle saved LEGO, and they knew and know that they were and are working to appeal to a niche audience.

plus, whether it was Bionicle or Star Wars that ultimately kept LEGO from going under is still subject to debate

Why you keep thinking of bionicle as just a small part of lego is beyond me

    it's because it is.

I don't care for friends or chima, but you don't see me berating it. Must you do the same to bionicle? :)

Nobody here is "berating" Bionicle. Do you really think we'd be on a Bionicle fansite if we didn't love it too?

  7. They don't have to mirror gen1's release patterns for the point to stand. This is one of Lego's most popular themes ever, so many fans have been hoping for its return for years, and now that it's back, we know we're getting quality products. What does Lego have to gain by pulling out all the stops at once? If we have titan sets right out of the gate, where does the theme progress to from there?

idk, to assume that because gen2 doesn't currently have titans, it won't ever have titans seems wicked illogical

  8. I walk into my room and see my old Titan sets and think why can't G2 have these. Every night.

There's no reason to assume that we won't get more titan sets. Don't forget that gen1 didn't have anything that one could describe as a "titan" until halfway through its second year, and nothing that matches the concept of "titan sets" that we had by the end of the run until halfway through its third year

  9. Matoro's mask was blue in "Challenge of the Rahi" -- it was just a very light blue. Presumably, the artists realized their mistake from the first comic, and in "Challenge" wanted readers to be able to connect Matoro to both the set depiction and his earlier comic depiction.

doesn't excuse reverting him to all-white in "Divided We Fall," though

  10. You haven't gone crazy, in response to your OP -- iirc the character descriptions from 01 specified Onua as the strongest of the Toa Mata. However, Pohatu was also stated to be slow and clumsy without his Kakama, and so sometime after Greg took over the storyline's fine details, he decided to apply that logic to Onua and state that he was significantly weaker without his Pakari. However, we can also reinterpret this as meaning that Onua and Pohatu are strong in different ways. There was a conversation about this in a thread back in October in which several people reconciled these changes to the story by attributing upper-body strength to Onua and lower-body strength to Pohatu.

If I may, below is basically an exact quote of my favored explanation as I described it in that thread:

Pohatu and Onua are the team's heavy hitters, but for different respective reasons. Onua I assumed to be the strongest in terms of dishing out brute force, but I always assumed Pohatu was the strongest in terms of stamina and durability (just take his first appearance in comic #1, for instance -- he appears entirely at ease following Kopaka around while completely out of his own element; he ventured up Mount Ihu in the first place because he was "practicing." Consider that: when the other Toa have to leave their own elements, it's a pretty big deal for them -- think Gali climbing and Lewa swimming in comic #2 -- but when Pohatu leaves his element? Just casually brushing up on his rock-kicking skills).

So they remain the team's heavies because Onua can deal massive amounts of damage without faltering, and Pohatu can take massive amounts of damage without faltering.

Although I suppose the stamina/durability thing could just as easily fall under "Toughness"
