  1. My impression was that either they possessed no elemental affiliation or were connected to the element of Light (because of the golden armor). Ekimu would have held true to the light, while Makuta became corrupted and fell into Shadow and the Dark arts (mind control, necromancy, etc). But the Ice/Earth connection makes sense too.
  2. Honestly, I loved the earliest comics, with Carlos D'Anda. Once the artwork made all the characters look super-shiny and polished, I felt like they were stepping too far away from the sets (I mean, my Rahkshi weren't made of polished bronze). I much rather preferred the older, more worn and used appearance. However, once the story left the MU, I really started to lose interest. I consider those my least favorite, since we left everything I was familiar with from '01 onwards.
  3. Well, I doubt Toa of Plasma can actually control stars. That strikes me as a bit past their power range. Not to mention that the star would be completely inaccessible to them millions of miles away on a planet's surface.
  4. Well, Mata Nui does possess gravity-controlling abilities...maybe the river really was flowing upwards?
  5. Well, Krekka's about as dumb as dirt, so I'd have to go with...DIRT! Just kidding. Krekka for sure.
  6. Well...I always envisioned Matoran of Lightning as living in a region with frequent lightning storms. Matoran of Plasma would probably just live in a volcanic region, since plasma is not really a common occurrence on a tropical island. Matoran of Iron could live comfortably in an underground environment that is ore and metal rich. Honestly, I can't really think of anything for a Matoran of Gravity. Matoran of Plantlife would just live in a forest. Shadow Matoran would prefer a dark region, maybe one that's underground also, or just one that's perpetually really really overcast. Matoran of Sonics just want peace and quiet, maybe on a mountaintop somewhere? Finally, Matoran of Psionics would like a region naturally high in psionic energy. That would mean someplace populated, since they would always be surrounded by the mental energy of their neighbors.
  7. Or when Onua brings down cave/tunnel ceilings, or when he makies pillars of stone shoot from the earth. :t Where did Onua make pillars of stone shoot from the earth? okay, my mistake, i was recalling the scene from MNOG but upon reflecting that was Pohatu making the pillars of stone, Onua was creating fissures at that point, my bad (but still a valid example of onua manipulating deeper crust...) Tunnels are just holes in the earth. There may be hard-packed earth, but it's still earth. Also: "The only instance they might be interpreted as doing [controlling crust] is when they generate earthquakes, and I'm arguing they simply simply "quake" the top level of soil, rather than the bedrock/crust underneath."
  8. My thought is that a random Metru Nui Matoran's response might be the same as yours if someone asked you, "Who's the Secretary-General of the United Nations?" The answer would probably be: "Um..." "...the guy in charge of some foreign stuff." If Dume were viewed similarly to say a UK Prime Minister, then Makuta would likely be viewed akin to a high-ranking official dealing with stuff far larger than any individual island/region. This help?
  9. If that was true why do toa of earth constantly control rocks and crust? ...They don't. Toa of Earth never control rocks and crust. The only instance they might be interpreted as doing that is when they generate earthquakes, and I'm arguing they simply simply "quake" the top level of soil, rather than the bedrock/crust underneath (or whatever the MU had).
  10. Well, I would distinguish between earth with a small "e" and Earth with a capital "E". Toa of Earth control small "e" earth as in soil. I don't think they can manipulate capital "E" Earth as in planetary crust. there is no difference, Earth is earth, and earth is Earth. the planet is made of the material, "earth" is anything that makes up the matrial foundation of "Earth" including rocks. (but not trees, plants, etc.) ...I'm not seeing it. You're lumping together two different things. Capital "e" Earth =/= small "e" earth. Small "e" earth--at least as far as BIONICLE is concerned--is just soil. That's it. On the other hand, "Earth" is the planetary body, made up of far more than just soil. A Toa of Earth can control dirt and soil, and even do so on a large scale, but they cannot actually influence the crust itself (which is made of rock).
  11. Yup. That pretty much explains it. As mentioned above, a lot of the distinction has to do with particle size. Rocks are big, while soil is just small crumbly bits. Of course, sand also confuses things a bit...
  12. Well, I would distinguish between earth with a small "e" and Earth with a capital "E". Toa of Earth control small "e" earth as in soil. I don't think they can manipulate capital "E" Earth as in planetary crust.
  13. I suppose it really depends on how fast the GSR was traveling. If it was moving at half the speed of light, then it would take only two years to make it to Alpha Centauri. That's easily doable. Additionally, I would assume Mata Nui would have hyper-sophisticated equipment which would let him scan for other intelligent life-forms.
  14. I wondered about this years ago, and came up with something similar. My conclusion was that Toa of Earth generate earthquakes by shaking up the soil which everyone is standing on, while a Toa of Stone would create an earthquake by cracking the bedrock beneath the soil. That was my best guess.
  15. This is the craziest theory I've seen since that whole "the Matoran Universe is actually Mata Nui's body" thing back in '08. 'Course, that turned out to be true... You should totally turn this into some sort of horror/zombie apocalypse story ("Never send a Toa to do a zombie's work.")
