  1. It's not so much about restoring things, I just had a lot of curated things there that I spent years working on. Not that any of it matters, but it was just nice fun things to do. Doesn't actually matter, plus I remember the wayback machine [unfortunately] stored a lot so I may be able to recover a bit if I put the effort in to find it.

There are some neat new features that's for sure, I would have loved them at the time.

  2. Update to this as I just finished Super Metroid. What a solid fair game, creepy and moody as anything. Not a huge fan of some of the mechanics, only because I suck though. Also should have spent less time trying to 100%, got to 96% in the end before giving up and just wanting to get to Mother Brain. That opening Brinstar theme is really good, my gosh.

Added Xenoblade to my list. Still unsure on Pokemon, might sit out on it until I run out of other things to check out. Big focus on Zelda, DKC and Mega Man titles right now.

Also like many of us had no luck securing a NES Classic so far, trying to pre-order gaming stuff here is really difficult. And scalpers should not be rewarded.

No one's going to read this comment to a month's old post.

  3. Why not...my as well just use the character I've had for basically my whole time here...with some changes due to your rules.

    • Name: Phyoohrii
    • Area of Expertise: Disk forger (though "expert" is too kind a descriptor...a low-level disk forger). Also a passion for Matoran society/culture.
    • Mask: Since Avohkii is out, then...oh let's just say Kaukau, since I can't think of any masks close to the powers I'm after (memory).
    • Weapon / Element: Two staves that channel elemental power (Sonics). Shaped like Bordakh's.
    • Side: Good at heart...which leads to the fatal flaw.
    • Motivation: Finding a purpose, while also doing what he believes to be right...which leads to the fatal flaw.
    • Fatal Flaw: Impressionable, this is what I mean by good at heart. Can be made to do bad if he is convinced it is the right thing, which can be done rather easily.
    • Other Details: Dry sense of humour. Quite hard on himself, less so on others. Respect of others important.
  4. I was able to beat it 2 or 3 years ago using a download version of it. I was also able to do it "legitimately" without upping the skills in code, but that was only because I was (purposely) using a slow computer, making the skill games much easier, especially stamina and strength. It was strangely rewarding completing, though I always loved this game because of the added Matoran culture and so on.

  5. Not being able to access the store without closing the program is the best new feature.

But yeah it looks and feels really slick, which is great.

Also loop does still exist, but only if you go Controls>Repeat>All/Once. Which is stupid, but it's not something I ever use so I don't care.

  6. 2008 was the year I was most invested in just about everything so I certainly suffer from rose-tinted glasses. but all these points are perfectly valid, with high expectations and lack of recognisability. It's probably what's so important about this reboot how quite a bit closer the look of the sets are to the original 2001 looks (even 2002 to an extent I feel) while remaining new (new to me anyway, who's not familiar with HF sets or story). My thoughts are fairly close to what Lewigi said, the Matoran were dreadful and bland. But I never really had that much issue with the colours, at least just because it wasn't another batch of the exact same colour schemes from 04-06 (minus Solek and Kopaka and Kirop, for obvious reasons). Otherwise yeah in retrospect it was all mostly samey to themselves and other years except for most of the larger sets. At least the Makuta Mistika sets tried.

There is also never enough silver, I don't care what anyone says. :P Though other neutral metallic colours were always welcome (gold in the right places only).

  7. I've been out of the whole LEGO game for so long now, it would be a big jump to go back into it after seven years. The story itself sounds alright, and will probably follow that in the background for nostalgia reasons, but yeah. Not for me any more.

Some of the sets do look pretty great though, I'll be curious about how the functions work, and in case anyone wants my two cents, I don't really have any issue with the masks or anything, I think they're all pretty nice re-imaginings. I'm somewhat amused that Guurahk's staff is in a couple of sets after all these years.

  8.

But is it a running gag if someone (i.e. me) finds it funny? I don't really make the distinction most of the time because something repeated all the time borders on the ridiculous already. [for instance, spoilering every comment here when most comments don't really say anything spoilery]. Extremely thin line between running gag and recurring theme in my book.
