  1. 2/5. Your name and sig ring a bell. However, I may just have a bad memory XD
  2. Devil's advocate, here we go. There are two ends of a spectrum of how this would go...Complete, 100% democratic community involvement, or the entirity being put into a select few (a new story team, essentially). The complete community idea, while great on paper, suffers from one thing...We'd have to put up a poll or discussion topic for litterally every event and detail. This would suffer due to it not being too efficient, likely taking a year to put out a months worth of story. It also suffers from another fact of making a story via democracy: Every decision would likely end up being, on average, bland and neutral. This seems a bit negative, but put it this way: There's absolutely no way that Matoro's death would have won in a public poll. The story team idea is the ideal one. Select some of the best fan fiction writers and MOCers from accross all the bionicle forums, and bam, you have a powerhouse. HOWEVER: it suffers from one thing: Public perception. If a decision is made that a few don't like, they will likely be attacked for "not being the real story", and the canon locking debate will rage on. Same example: if a "Matoro's Death" moment happens, the team would immediatly, and unfairly, lose credibility. Personally, I would be 100% behind the creation of a new story team. That is the ideal way to continue on the story. We could even acknowledge that it's a kind of "loose" canon, similar to the Star Wars expanded universe (oh boy I hope that's an acceptable analogy). If not that, then more contests like Memoirs of the Dead would be good. I'm 100% behind this. I love this idea. But the community as a whole might not be as willing to accept this.
  3. This is not true for gen1. We know for sure that they were created as toa, as well as helryx and Orde. However, I really like the idea for gen2...it'd allow a similar storyline to 2004, but with the same set of toa as opposed to a new one. I like it
  4. While this is clearly a scam user or whatever, I really do appreciate the effort taken to know to post in the buy/sell/trade forum XD Imagine how it would have been handled if this were S&T...
  5. An argument I've seen a lot of is "Canonizing new things messes with my already written/future fanfiction". The beautiful thing about fanfiction that makes it such a prevelant artform is that it can pay as much or as little attention to existing cannon as it wants. There is absolutley nothing stoping me from cracking open Microsoft Word, right now, and making Nuju the 2005 traitor as opposed to Vakama. There's even a mechanism within the story for these to still be considered canon, if the writer so wishes: Alternate universes, something which we all know have played a major role in the story since the introduction of the Zivon (I think that was when it was introduced). More than that: a writer shouldn't have to answer to fanfiction when decisions are made as to what did and did not happen within their story. Yes, he is giving fans the ability to change it, but if he really wanted to veto and shoot down an idea, he would, and he does. In addition: the story used to have a LOT more contributions between 2001 and 2010, as we all remember...During that time, fanfiction was written and immediatly canonicly contradicted on a weekly basis. No one spoke of canon locking then, why should we now? Fanfiction is one of the things that makes the Bionicle community so special...but in reality, canon locking helps as much now as it would have back in 2008.
  6. You... do realize there are areas of the world where having a girl is seen as disgusting and female children are killed, right? That might not be naturally disproportionate. ...While i'm not advocating this, merely playing devils advocate...perhaps some historical event happened in the MU that we don't know about that led to the extinction of a couple female elements...? There are multiple ways to go about this...removing the gender lock of elements, adding more female elements, etc...but the only way for that specific piece evidence to work is if something absolutely catastrophic happened early in the MU's history.
  7. No. I do not think there should be a cannon lock. I have the personal view that additions and evolutions for the gen1 story is a good thing, and keeps it living and breathing. HOWEVER...I can also acknowledge that my view is extreme. What SHOULD be done, and what I've been activly advocating for since I became aware of this debate, is that cannonizations should be a DEMOCRACY. It shouldn't be firing things at greg like a machine gun, it should be ideas, designed, molded, and approved by the community, and sent to Greg (without tricks or manipulations) for approval. The idea of canonizing everything under the sun is way too far. But so is cannon locking.
  8. That's different. LEGO was in potential legal trouble for using that and other words stemming from the Maori language. So they changed those words to be less offensive. If the Maori had been all right with LEGO yanking words from their language, they would have stayed as "Tohunga". And Greg would not have stroked his beard one morning and changed the name to Matoran for kicks. The story team did it only because they had to. Legally. It was a retcon by necessity, not necessarily for story purposes. If Greg had changed the name to Matoran because he felt like it one day, that would be proper justification for "[setting] precedent". You're changing the situation by taking it out of context. ...did not mean to take it out of context. I, of course, understand the real reasons, I was just pointing out that a precident existed, and that was the first one that came to mind. Drop that example, fair point, it's different...Okay, instead, hewkii x Macku. Or if you prefer an example from when Greg was a writer for bionicle, Matau's flirting over the course of 2004-2005 (happened in more than just the movies).
  9. is there any actual ruling to the "old answers are correct" thing? like, did Lego impose that, or just greg? because if it's the latter, i find that kinda..... restrictive. :t I think the original label of "Tohunga" for the matoran mysteriously not appearing in the Metru Nui saga or ever again (for non-real-world reasons anyway) sets precident for ignoring that statement, so long as we don't try and use that fact to trick Greg. EDIT: This was a terrible example, please move along.
  10. Aside from the inika and the 2015 sets, they are all in various states of disrepair and shoved into a couple 30-gallon tubs in my very old, somewhat damp, basement. Aside from loosely burying them in the backyard, that is probably one of the worst storage solutions in hindsight...
  11. most card games i've seen use "he" to refer to the (neutral) player, so it's about as much evidence as any other "neutral he" would be. sorry. This does bring up a different question: I feel like Greg has used neutral terms/shorthand answers before, and we've used it as a basis for canonization (off the top of my head, this is one of the largest example, but there are definitly others). Should those be discounted/examined as well...?
  12. ...I probably should have thought harder about the can of worms I was opening. My apologies. My mistake...Topic title was bad, meant for this to be a discussion. I like this potential explanation...It does still, i think, leave open the oportunity for multi-gendered elements (Perhaps there would have been benifits to having the GB's ideas of male and female Le-Matoran running the transportation of metru nui, for example).
  13. I'm not sure if this is a topic that has existed or not...if it is, my apologies. So...for the last 15 years, the debate has gone on over the male-dominated element ratio for the matoran species...the way we have tended to go about it is to canonize as many female genders as possible (which, FYI, I entirely support). However, maybe we're going about this the wrong way...there's a potentially better solution, one which I'm supprised has barely come up despite the Av-Matoran being a convincing precident...What if the elements, or at least some of them, are not mon-gendered...? Potential evidence: 1: If you think about it, we have no actual evidence (that I know of off of the top of my head, open to corrections) that any of the elements are mono-gendered, with the exception of Psionics. 2: If we drop the assumption of matoran being a certain gender due to their element, most of the matoran we have seen VISUALLY could easily be the opposite gender than was assumed (at no point, for example, was Pakastaa refered to as a "He"). 3: Perhaps there's some matoran-society reason or bias within each element as to WHY we saw more of one gender than another, which would likely not have been explored due to Bionicle's initial intended audience. We know that there are at least a few societal biases on gender in the MU, as evidenced by Orde's being the only male Psionic toa and by the vortixx being a female-dominated species, to name a few examples. I don't know...these are ideas. Perhaps I am wrong on this idea. Discuss.
  14. >click random topic >find this: >have entire perspective of the 2006-2008 storyline changed >leaves Seriously thought for some reason, 7-year-old JMSOG was incredibly predisposed to shipping...The most strong ones that I remember are Pohatu and Gali, and Vhisola and Orkahm...What led 7-year-old JMSOG to this conclusion, to this day, I have no idea.
  15. I said yes, but that sent me down a train of thought... We've been (understandably) frustrated with the male-dominated gender ratio for the matoran species for gen1...have been since it's creation...Our method of going about it has been to canonize as many female elements as possible...which i support, FYI. However...one other option has been ignored pretty frequently, despite precident existing in the av-matoran...shouldn't we be fighting for elements where multiple genders are represented? perhaps even exististing, previously-canonized-as-male elements should have multiple genders. I dunno...this topic's poll made me think of this for some reason, might as well throw it out there.

I think i've heard of the crows nest actually...HIGH on my list whenever i start exploring the food in the area...thank you!
  17. I clicked kongu on instinct, but in reality, it's a toss up between him and Matoro. Kongu's always been one of my favorite characters growing up, and even now there's just something...solid, i guess...about his character. Matoro, though...obvious reasons. Looking back as an 18 year old, he's incredibly well developed not just for bionicle, but as a fictional character in general...so it's tough. Setwise, though, Kongu Inika, no contest
  18. *jumps in with a potentially stupid answer* we can ask Greg...? Maybe if we can find enough information from timepieces and references to time pieces in Bionicle (i'm thinking there was more than the sundial, though not sure), we can infer this one.
  19. why does this make me so uneasy...? XD anyway...I'd give people a day to use this to calculate the ACTUAL height. I wonder if this can be referenced for canonical purposes...?

Decision made: I'm going to Kalamazoo College in the fall Any BZP members that I will be bumping into there?
  21. so...you know many other matoran in the MU had to have Lhikan's varient of the hau, right...? this is overlooked a bit, methinks...an onu matoran with a black Lhikan-Hau would have been awesome . and for the ko matoran: a great Pakari. But one with an axle in it, like they did with Tahu Stars.
  22. I had an idea in my head as soon as I saw it that the element switch for Onua and Pohatu is an in-joke to the fact that G1 switched Earth and Stone by accident multiple times...Nope, they didn't slip up in this video, it was an in joke...i'll keep telling myself that...XD Anyway...this felt like a filler episode. Still good, but I can't wait for the last 3 to show up in english.
  23. I came in all ready to think hard about the actors I knew, their body of work, selecting the ones that would be best for each toa, probably getting some headcannon voices in the process. Instead, I saw this: And realized anything I would say would pale in comparison...so yeah. Morgan Freeman. As everyone. It could happen, I mean he already has connection with lego because of the Lego Movie. Although admittedly having Michael Dorn back to voice onua is very appealing...
  24. I spent the first month of ownership of the Masters obsessivly taking them apart and putting them back together over and over...I used to do that as a kid, every set went through at least 4-5 rebuilds. I also began trying to re-learn as much of the lore as I could, and...well...I'm on bzp again. It brought out my inner child in weird ways too...I began listening to music I hadn't listened to since I was 10, I watched old episodes of Arthur (a cartoon I watched as a kid), i've had a craving for some of the meals my parents made when I was younger and allergic to everything...It's actually been a little bizzarre...
  25. 5 second scene of Tahu gen1 arguing with tahu gen2 over who is tougher. Discussion over. In all seriousness, other lego themes...hmm...Exo Force showing up would be cool, as well as johnny thunder.
