  1. So back at the start of the Bionicle reboot I purchased a Gali Master of Water (70786-1), I put the set together and for the most part I've just left it on the shelf and haven't really messed with it because I find the new sets floppy and not particularly fun to mess with. However, recently I got back into building mocs after losing pretty much all of my sets several years ago so I decided to pull it off the shelf and mess around a bit, only to discover that some pieces had become very lose. In particular several of the axle connectors (32039) and one of the translucent, short hero factor arms (90612) had cracked in such a way that they no longer produce enough friction to be useful just from sitting still on a shelf in the configuration the instructions specified. Do I just have a bad copy of the Gali set or is this a common issue? If it is a common issue it it just common to Gali or is it common to a lot of the reboot line's sets? I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this, I am new to the site (literally made an account so I could ask this question).
  2. These were Bionicle G2 Masks that I modeled in Blender a while back in early 2017. This was when I was starting to experiment more with blender and I got more comfortable at 3D modeling. Don't really have any plans for Bionicle now since I'm learning a new version of Blender, version 2.79, so I don't know if I will ever model or animate Bionicle again.
  3. The first thing he gave her was a poorly carved bird. It wasn’t until much later that they would laugh about how sorrily made the bird was, but at the time, she took it with twinkling eyes and outstretched hands. He had never whittled anything before, but when they first met she had mentioned how she had always admired the talent. He tried his hand at it the moment he got home, because he couldn’t get her out of his mind otherwise. “This is beautiful,” she said as she took it from him, and she really meant it, because she was that kind of person. She could look at something in earnest and judge it not for what it appeared to be, but what it meant. And she knew what the carving meant, and she loved him then on for it. ---- The second thing he gave her was his devotion. “Devotion is the true mark of belief,” the Great Brother had said, “For if one truly believes in something - actually, earnestly believes - one cannot help but be devoted to it.” And so he gave her his devotion, for he truly believed in her. ---- The third thing he gave to her was belief. She was initially skeptical of the Great Brother, for she had heard the stories and the secrets told in the darkness, the rumors that were whispered at rowdy night taverns. She, like all of the others, had seen them at one point or another, the Ancient Ones, the Master Crafters. The Mask Makers. There were those who swore upon their lives that the other brother, the Wise Master, was the true master craftsman. That the Great Brother was nothing but a Mask Hoarder, a Derelict Forger of broken things. But the moment she saw him, she knew. She knew who he was and what he meant to do. “You are a great man, seeking great things,” she said. “If Kulta believes in you, then I shall too.” He was happy at her remarks. “We will rule,” he said later, when they were alone. “Together, under him. I shall be a King and you shall be a Queen.” She laughed. “I am no one’s Queen,” she said, with the smiling firmness he had come to admire. “I am my own ruler.” He bowed, with the graciousness she had come to cherish. “Of course. Shall we be two Kings instead?” “I would settle for lordship,” she said. “Two lords can live in partnership, can they not?” “We can manage,” he said, smiling. ---- The fourth thing he gave was himself, for he had nothing else to give and yet wanted to give more still. This gift, as with his first, she took in open arms. For the first time in his life, he knew happiness and knew it in abundance. ---- They came for the Great Brother’s followers without a warning, their numbers filling the city, house to house, block to block. The other brother, the Wise Master, had received a vision, they said. The Great Brother was to ravage the world unless he was stopped. All followers were now heretics, to be shamed and stripped of their personhood. He first saw them when they came to the market, seizing a follower by the scruff of the neck and wrenching the mask from his face. The mask was a symbol, they said, that the Wise Master had made in his image. Those who would stand against the Wise Master could no longer bear his face. And so they ripped the masks from their bodies, and laid their skulls bare to the world. He could hear the screams as the armies of the Wise Master turned followers into heretics. Those without masks would wither soon, for they were not long for this world. He escaped, narrowly, and as quick as he could returned to his home. He was too late. She wept, the tears streaming down her skull. “They took my face from me,” was all she could say. He wiped the tears from her eyes, and stared into them as long as he could. They stared back, the piercing gaze that always saw him for what he was worth. The brilliance in them died as she withered away, a cold hollow skull where his everything used to be. Then the city ruptured around him, the earth rumbling and quaking into a cascade of power. The ground was ripped from under him, and he sank into the underworld below. Some say that the Great Brother forced the Wise Master’s hand. Others that the Wise Master tried to rid the world of the Great Brother before his vision could come true. The stories always ended the same, with the island torn asunder and the city and its inhabitants all but forgotten. ---- But he lived, against the odds, a cruel irony for someone who had nothing left to live for. He prayed, in that moment, for he knew not what else to do. “Great Brother, he said, “I have believed, and I have been devoted. Guide me now.” He prayed, and out of the silence came hope. I offer a bargain to you, said the voice. I ask for your devotion yet again, to help free me from my chains. In return, I will bring you back what matters to you the most. “What must I do?” He said back to the darkness. I have given you a gift, one that can cheat death, the voice said. It will give you back what you love, but it may not be in the form that you desire. “If there is any chance,” he said. “I will do all that you command.” ---- For millennia, he searched, combing the underworld, searching every crevice and crook in the dark. He knew not what he was searching for, but he needed not to know. He was devoted, and that was what all that mattered. She was his reason, and he believed in her. They would be together again. Ages passed until he found it. His fingers barely brushed along the side of it, but already he knew it was what he had been searching for. The magic ebbed out of the golden mask, a radiant glow that he could not describe. He prayed, and out of the silence came instruction. Are you still devoted, child? Do you still believe? “Yes,” he said. “I will hold my end of the bargain.” Your love has made her strong. Be with her again. He felt the power surge through him, rippling through his body and out into his limbs. It was as if his own life force was halved, cut out of him in the blink of an eye. Before him, a writhing monstrosity screamed into existence. Six limbs bent themselves onto the ground, and he heard a voice he feared he’d never hear. “...Who am I?” she said, as if stirred from a long slumber. He looked at her, at the eldritch abomination that stood before him, and saw her as she did, to the meaning underneath the skin. To him, her form did not matter, for if she had looked at his first gift to her with judging eyes instead of her own, he would have been all the lesser. Give her your purpose. “You are...a Lord. A Lord of the Undead, of the Skulls of the Slain.” She paused in silence. “I remember being more,” she said, sadly. “Do you not remember the same?” He could not look her in the eye. “We owe the Great Brother a great debt,” he said. “It must be paid. Only then can we cherish the past.” He showed her the mask and its uses, and she in return gifted undead life and limbs back to the skulls of their fallen brethren. The mark of the heretics would now be the mark of the underworld. ---- The two Lords came together, their armies working as one. He rallied the underworld to his cause, and she swarmed the island with the voices of the dead. They ravaged the island, driving those who had harmed them from their homes. They were hopelessly outnumbered. So they summoned the demons. The demons fell from the stars and struck with power that none had seen before, driving their armies back, hunting them into the ground. They took her and they beat her, stripping her of her power and casting her back into the underworld, broken. He faced the Wise Master for the first time, the man who had cost him everything. His rage turned into fury, but his fury was in vain. He was cast out too, out of what remained of his home, a memory so old but still fresh. When he sought her, she was wounded, unable to move. Her armies had gone without her, and she was not long for this world. Even dark magic would to naught to save her. “The Great Brother will save us,” he said. “He saved us before and he’ll save us again. You’ve looked into his heart, you know this to be true.” She did not reply. “The Great Brother is nothing,” she said at last. “I saw nothing in his heart but greed and sorrow. He is not but a maker of broken things.” He was taken aback. “But you said...” She smiled. “I looked into your heart and saw devotion, and I could not bear to see that devotion die. It made you purposeful. It gave you reason.” “You gave me reason,” he meant to say, but he choked on his own words. They sat in silence until he was the only one silent. ---- He rallied the underworld again, to fight the demons and the Wise Master of the world above. He faced the Wise Master for the last time. He was shown no mercy. He was soundly defeated. He lay, buried alive, at the depths of the underworld. Rubble had broken every bone in his body. Every breath was a burning ache, deep into his lungs, as air and dust became mixed into one musty gasp for life. He prayed, and out of the silence came doubt. There were no words and there were no promises. The Great Brother had forsaken him. He withered away, for there were no more reasons to live.
  4. Searching for Ekimu's tomb, the Toa journey deep beneath the City of the Mask Makers. There they wind through ancient catacombs, battling Skull Scorpios at every turn. In time they push their way—or are they themselves pushed?—into a vast chamber. In its center swirls a vortex of debris, all that remains of the vanquished Lord of the Skull Spiders. In the darkness, Onua can make out a lone figure. Have the Toa found their quarry at last? "Ekimu!" he calls. "We are here to rescue you!" The six gasp as an islander steps out of the shadows… Flickr Here is my entry to The Legend Continues contest! Participants create entries reflecting things they would have liked to see in G2 Bionicle. I recreated the MNOG confrontation with Makuta in the style of the 2015 animations. Please let me know what you think!
  5. Welcome to Okoto Adventures, a comical comic featuring the Bionicle 2015 sets and other characters. I am Pohatu, and all these hiatuses with the Bionicle animations has left me bored. So what does any smart, normal Toa do when he is bored? Make comics of course! I must warn you though, I am a very busy Toa and these comics will be updated at a highly irregular schedule. Some weeks there might be two, others might have none. Without further ado.... I present to you the origins of OKOTO ADVENTURES. Comic #1. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/RahkshiToa88/COMICS/okotoadventuresofficialstart.jpg Character Intros! Character Intro 1 Meet the Team Character Intro 2 Villains Intro! Normal Comics! Special Comics: Rahkshi comic special! Please comment and criticize. I want to know what I am doing right and how I can improve!
  6. This is what I gathered form BS01: --The Vahi comes into existence. Since it is older than the stars, it has to come first. --At some point in the distant past, the elements themselves magically create the mysterious island of Okoto. --The elements are: (1) stone, (2) earth, (3) water, (4) fire, (5) jungle, (6) ice, (7) light, and (8) shadow. --In addition to the island, 7 creatures are created from stone, earth, water, fire, jungle, ice, and light to be the avatars of their respective elements. Shadow, in response, creates Umarak the Hunter to oppose and hunt the creatures. --The Temple of Time is either created from the elements as well, or the Okotoans build it as their first temple. The Mask of Time somehow then arrives at the Temple. --Okotoans either are also formed from the elements, or migrate from another location. --Okotoans build the Labyrinth of Control --The Capitol City is built. --The City of the Mask Makers is built. --The Skull Raiders invade the island from a different location. --The islanders live in harmony, along with the Mask Makers Makuta and Ekimu. So there are a few things I'm wondering about: 1. We know the Skull Army is not native to Okoto (presumably they sailed to the island from elsewhere). Does this mean there is a mainland on this planet inhabited by skeleton people? Why did they come to Okoto? How did they know about it? And, if they did know about beforehand, how is it that no one else has come to Okoto in its several thousand years of recored history? Ultimately, what were they hoping to get out of coming to Okoto? 2. How did the Okotoans get to Okoto? Were they created from the elements too? Did the Great Beings put them there? Did they sail to the island from another location? Who told them then that there would be a rich island in the middle of the ocean? 3. Also: are the Mask Makers just skilled Okotoans? Or are they a whole other race? Is that ever explained? Is Makuta an earth villager and Ekimu a water one? 4. What's with those 2 moons anyway? One thing I'll say I don't like so much about G2 is there's no Greg to ask.
  7. After seeing a comment on the BZP Facebook page, I got a great idea concerning Vultraz, and couldn't resist writing it up to see where it goes. So, let's give it a shot! ~Intro~ “Six years! I’ve been stuck here for six years! Experimented on by the Great Beings, guarded day and night by the Makuta, and only just escaped a few weeks ago. I’ve been on the run ever since!” Brutaka just nodded, stroking the edge of his mask. This little red Toa (or, what he knew to be a Toa) had come to him, begging for help. The Toa, who called himself Vultraz, insisted that in his universe, beings of his stature were the Matoran, and the larger, stronger figures were Toa. Brutaka was fully aware of what his Kanohi Olmak was capable of, so he reasoned that Vultraz must be telling the truth. They were sitting in a darkened chamber in Brutaka’s home, away from prying eyes and ears. The gold-and-blue titan leaned forward in his chair. “So, you want me to just open up a portal back to your universe and let you escape, when you might very well be a wanted criminal here in ours? Why should I offer you freedom in place of justice?” Vultraz leaped to his feet. “Because I’m not from here! I was taken prisoner and held against my will. It would be an act of injustice to keep me here a second longer.” He stepped up to Brutaka, their masks just inches apart. “So, get me out of here. Now.” Brutaka leaned back again. “What’s in it for me?” The Shadow Matoran had nothing to offer him in exchange for his services, and no way to threaten someone so powerful. “I don’t know.” He sighed. “I’m desperate here.” The titan quickly got to his feet, startling Vultraz and causing him to step backward. “Very well, then. An adventure, it is, then. Let’s be off.” Vultraz couldn’t hide the look of confusion on his face. “What do you mean?” “I’m coming with you,” Brutaka said as he gathered some items from around the room and stuffed them into his pack. “I have been terribly bored and in need of something to do. A little adventure wouldn’t hurt.” Finally, he lifted his double-bladed weapon from where it hung on the wall, dust falling from its surface as he swung it. “Ready?” Wasn’t expecting this, Vultrax thought. He hadn’t planned on having company, but he figured that having Brutaka along couldn’t hurt. He might even prove useful. “Ready as I can be, I suppose.” A portal opened in midair before the unlikely pair. “Good!” Brutaka exclaimed. “Then, off we go!” And he threw Vultraz through the opening, before following, himself, leaving an empty home behind. Comments and criticism appreciated.
  8. I have a question on the rapid fire stud shooter. Can it fire the Round Brick? I ask because it is pretty much a larger stud.
  9. Hello, BZ-NUIIIIIII! (I always wanted to loud-shout that. ) Anyway, a while back, I was asked by my fellow members of the Kanohi Force to draw them in the style of the 2015 BIONICLE animations. I obliged. But then, as I finished working on myself, I realized I could take it a step further. Today, I present to you the newest kit: The Okotomation-Style Creation Kit! (PS, I also bring you the word "Okotomation" ) Here are all the various sheets (more to be added) Mask Sheet (WIP) Protector Parts Kit (WIP) Protector Poses (WIP) UPDATE: I am currently without a proper computer, so I cannot add to this project until that is amended. For now, contributors are welcome. Already, Lewa the Soaring Champion has graciously provided his attempt at Okoto-fying the Noble Kanohi from 2001 (found on page 4 of this topic). If you would like to contribute, feel free to do so. Body kits will be done by me, but if you want to provide things like backgrounds, masks, and accessories, you are more than welcome to. All contributors will receive due credit in this post and have their work added to the official kit. This entire process is done in MS Paint, using screenshots from the webisodes as reference images (for example, the scene where the Toa are shown getting their gold masks, Lewa is briefly shown removing his green mask before placing the gold one on, exposing his face). More will be added to that image, so keep checking back for new stuff! See ya around, and I hope to start seeing some fun new comics using this in the near future. (Oh, before I forget, I need help. If you can provide reference images of masks from the front, angle, and side, I would be most appreciative of that. Any weapons or special parts you want me to do, send me a screenshot of it, and I'll try to implement it. Thanks a bunch! ) (Another thing, I need backgrounds! If you can make/screenshot some decent backgrounds, then that'd be great! The MNOG kit had backgrounds, but this one isn't as easy to do. If you can help with this, please message me--I'd love to see what you've got!) UPDATE: 2-19-15--bulky Protector torso and armored shoulder plates added. 2-23-15--Mask of Control added 4-21-15 Vahi added! As usual, please remember to give credit if you use this kit. When doing so, I'd appreciate it if you include a link back to this topic so that others can have easy access to it. Or, if you have room, put this banner in your sig, and link it back to the topic.
  10. Six heroes. One destiny. Who ate all the pies? This particular take on an abridged version of the 2015 animations was made as a collaboration between The 1st Shadow, a few of my IRL friends, and, well, me, as an entry for Team Four Star's Tenkaichi Ironman Budokai Abridgathon. The end result could have been a bit better, but this is what we were able to produce in a month of planning, writing, and editing. Okay, you're probably saying that it's very selfish to name a collab effort after my own username, but my YouTube channel has become a collaborative venue. Sure, I'm running it, but current and future videos often feature guests. I couldn't do any of this alone. Also, there's already at least two Bionicle Abridged series out there, so I needed to add the name of the channel it's uploaded to so you could more easily differentiate it. So sit back, watch, and enjoy the fruits of our labor! And hope that the mods aren't against this.
  11. I made some much needed improvements since the original post. So I figured it warranted a new topic for them. 12. Bit late to the party but I needed the parts of the 2016 winter sets to finish these mods. So here are my mods of the Skull Villains. (I've already made a topic for Skull Scorpio so it won't be posted here. But to make up for it. I made a Skull villain for Gali to fight All of the mods save for Skull Grinder have the trans orange removed. I just didn't like it on the others. That's just my opinion Gallery- http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=564493 First off is Skull Warrior. Not many changes to him but I did rebuild the bow so the firing gimmick doesn't turn the whole bow. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullwarrior01.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullwarrior02.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullwarrior03.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullwarrior04.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullwarrior05.jpg (Weapons stored & holding Kopaka's gold mask) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullwarrior06.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullwarrior07.jpg Next is Skull Slicer. Main changes are getting rid of the chain weapon to give him a fourth sword. And armor on the trans green bones. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullslicer01.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullslicer02.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullslicer03.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullslicer04.jpg stored & holding Lewa's gold mask) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullslicer06.jpg Next is Skull Basher. Main changes are making the gimmick less lose. It can't swing both arms together but still allows side to side movement. I also gave him a tail and hooves to emphasize the bull aspect a bit more. He has solid purple armor so his horns don't stick out as much. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullbasher01.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullbasher02.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullbasher03.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullbasher04.jpg stored & holding Onua's gold mask) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullbasher6.jpg Next is the villain I made for Gail. I call her Skull Strika. She's based on Aanchir's Skull ripper design but doesn't have any trans light blue parts. Only trans dark blue. She has no legs but instead a large tail with a skull sword for stealing masks. To compensate I built her a stand. Storywise she would be a species like Skull Scorpio and attack the group when there on the way to Ekimu's forge http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullstrika01.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullstrika02.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullstrika03.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullstrika04.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullstrika05.jpg (Holding Gali's gold mask) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullstrika06.jpg (Stand build) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullstrika07.jpg Next is Kulta the Skull Grinder. His changes are filling in his torso a bit more. Replacing his black bones with dark grey ones. And removing the small sword he had. He never used it in the animations or book anyways. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullgrinder01.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullgrinder02.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullgrinder03.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullgrinder04.jpg stored & holding Tahu's gold mask) stored & putting on the Mask of Creation) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullgrinder07.jpg (Posed wearing the Mask of Creation) Finally a group shot including my modded Skull Scorpio http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullVillains/skullvillains.jpg Comments and criticism appreciated
  13. Hi, guys! I know that 2015 is over, but there is this one question I have in mind: What happened to the Skull Creatures after they are defeated. Here are some things that I noticed: 1. Skull Spiders - There are like hundreds of them. Many of them have been defeated by being unconscious and destroyed. What about all of them? I mean, the remaining ones that are still alive. 2. Lord of Skull Spiders - Probably killed. 3. Skull Warriors - Many of them got their butts kicked and looked unconscious. Again, any remaining ones that are alive? 4. Skull Slicer - I heard he fell out from the City of the Mask Makers. What happened to him after that? Is he hiding to plan his revenge on the Toa for humiliate him in Hammer Flush? 5. Skull Scorpios - Two of them having been crushed by two giant stones. What about the remaining ones? 6. Skull Basher - He got his butt kicked really hard. In a chapter book called Island of the Lost Masks, he was called "lifeless" when it happened, but in Revenge of the Skull Spiders, he was sent to prison, so is he dead or alive? 7. Kulta the Skull Grinder - Same as Skull Basher. So there, that's what we last see and heard of them. There are some bodies laying on the ground in the city. We know that Makuta could control Kulta and the Lord of Skull Spiders (and perhaps the spiders), who can also control their fellow Skull Creatures, but if Kulta and the Lord are disposed of, what would happen to their minions. Do they fall down unconscious, like a machine being turned off it or having batteries taken out, or are we still active and have full control of themselves? I know that they are undead, but we don't know how are they created or their origins. Any thoughts or theories, guys?
  14. Both of the aforementioned polybags seem to be exclusive to Russia. I'm not happy about this, because I really want to acquire both of them, and I don't want to pay $40+ just for a polybag. So, I think that we should get LEGO to at least release the Accessory Pack, because it isn't fair not to release it to all countries. As for the Villain Pack, they probably won't make any more, due to it being from last year's lineup. Thoughts? (Mods, feel free to merge this with the 2016 discussion topic if it belongs there rather than its own topic.)
  15. Dangers of Okoto A Comparative Analysis of the Physiological and Cultural Distinctions Between Various Antagonistic Forces ---------------------------------- An introductory Overview After the initial report on the native sophants of Okoto, the preliminary investigative team discovered evidence of an invading force. Although they could not interfere directly with the situation, they were able to follow the actions of a group of warriors that the Morehu summoned, and furthermore capable of observing the various entities with which they battled, and furthermore had encounters with two individuals who, thankfully, decided against exposing them to the natives--mostly because they themselves were not willing to be exposed. What follows is a recount of the five various species, and their known behaviors: the Skull Spiders, the Lord, the Scorpios, the Eirian, and the Kaukino. Note that the last two names come from the individuals the investigative team spoke with, and are the only members of this list to be confirmed sophants themselves. There is also one last addition to the Morehu report, further detailed at the end of this. Part 1: Skull Spiders The Skull Spiders became a menace to the greater Okoto population after the Lord of Skull Spiders somehow obtained the Golden Mask of the Skull Spiders. Despite their name, Skull Spiders appear to be more closely related to the insect-like lifeformes of Okoto than the anthropod life forms; they only have six limbs, two of which are adapted specifically to lock into the telepathic "ports" of the Morehu and other creatures with similar structures. From what could be determined, the natural use of these limbs is to imbue the victim with a strong urge to protect Skull Spider nests; however, at the time of the investigation, the Lord of Skull Spiders was using the Golden Mask to alter that compulsion into destruction of Masks of power. The natural behavior of Skull Spiders is not clear, again due to the interference of the Lord, but from observation and conversation the swarming behaviors they exercised during the investigation is quite unnatural. Skull Spiders come in four known colors: Red, Green, Silver, and Blue. Red Skull Spiders appear to be the rarest breed, despite having the largest range of location; it is unclear at this time whether they have any unique abilities or are simply powerless mutants. Green Skull Spiders tend to make their home in the south-west regions of Fire and Earth; the signature coloring is given by a sub-dermal chemical which reacts to the presence of life forms, which allows the Skull Spiders to locate potential hosts even through the rock of the Earth region tunnels and the thick smog of the Fire region. Silver Skull Spiders prefer the northern Ice and Water regions, where packets of air in their carapaces lighten their weight to a point where they can move incredibly swiftly. The Blue Skull Spiders, whose coloration is due to the thickness of their shell, dominate the middle range of Okoto; while the ones in the Region of Jungle resemble other Skull Spiders aside from their color, the ones in the Region of Stone have a unique mutation that gives them a pointed, but non-venomous stinger tail. Of particular interest is the Skull Spider's post death usability. The body of a Skull Spider retains the telepathic compulsion that it had in life--anyone foolish enough to wear a Skull Spider as a trophy might very well find themselves with an urge to protect the nest of the creature, even if the creature had no nest. Furthermore, it is apparently possible to 'train' a Skull Spider to give a different set of instructions--indeed, one of the Eirian individuals the team observed had been forcefully put under the control of the Lord through use of a Silver Skull Spider. This alone makes the species incredibly dangerous in the hands of a determined or cunning individual; with the addition of the Golden Mask of Skull Spiders being able to somehow direct them, it is plausible that they were artificially created by some unknown force for just that specific purpose. Thankfully, the summoned warriors were able to remove the Golden Mask from the claws of the Lord, rendering them mere pests.
  16. Just a day or two ago, a topic started by -Takua- on deciphering the Gen2 runes made the front page. Naturally, it got a lot of traffic and many replies. There was, and still is, a great amount of excitement over a new BIONICLE language. Unfortunately, among many of the objective posts (most posts were either off topic or approval of adding a new language), the general concensus is that these symbols do not, as of this time, have any meaning and are simply decoration. Given the LEGO Group's aptness to heavily incorporate the old Matoran Language into the first generation before it became expected to do so, if these symbols do not mean anything, it is unlikely that they ever will. However, at least from what I have heard, LEGO has been known to accept fan input for the BIONICLE story from time to time. What I suggest is the creation of a fan-developed language, one using few other symbols outside of the ones featured in the shorts and inscribed on the Mask of Creation. This is really a time to be creative, so don't feel confined to the English alphabet (or grammar, for that matter). Get creative enough, and we just might be able to give a meaning to that endlessly repeating string of non-repeating characters. Before attempting to start this puzzler, I recommend seeing -Takua-'s post as well as SkullKid's (towards the end) as they are the most informative (there are a lot of posts). Even if LEGO still never gives the runes a meaning, this could be a sort of ongoing project/puzzle to give meaning to the meaningless; a "fanonical" language if you will, which is better than none at all. Feel free to post your thoughts even if they only are half baked. A fragment of an idea just may prove inspirational to someone else. NOTE: There still is a chance that these symbols do indeed currently have a meaning, it is just unlikely.
  17. These are my mods of the Protectors. First off is Narmoto Protector of Fire. His changes are 1. Arms are more like the ones from the animations and the feet are changed to red 2. 18. OFFICIAL BIONICLE 2015 DISCUSSION TOPIC BZP's own super-sleuth Gatanui all but officially confirmed the much speculated return of Bionicle in the year 2015 with the discovery of the attached teaser image. Read more here. With that, we think it is best if we start this momentous occasion off with a fresh start! What do you think will happen in 2015? What do you want to see happen? Let us know! 19. The mythical island of Okoto is complete with every variety of environments. There are volcanoes, glacial mountains, deep waters, swampy jungles, hot deserts, murky underground caves - but what dwells within the island's wilderness? Presenting... Wildlife of Okoto Rahi combiners and alternates for the 2015 Winter Bionicle sets. As always, click the photos for a much higher resolution. Region of Stone The great barren desert spreads across the northwestern part of Okoto. The most dangerous phenomenon in the desert is sandstorms that blow across the wasteland. Dikapi The Dikapi are two-legged Rahi found in the Region of Stone. They are friendly, docile creatures, and they wander the deserts in flocks, bringing a certain pleasant charm that is appreciated by all Stone villagers. Build Dikapi with 70779: Protector of Stone! Oko Kani The Oko Kani is a large Rahi found in the rocky Region of Stone. It blends in with the environment with both color and shape, making it an effective hunter. In the wild, Oko Kani are hostile, dangerous creatures that live in packs. However, some have been captured when they were young, and domesticated to be kept as pets. Domesticated Oko Kani are friendly, playful, and loyal to their owners. Build Oko Kani with 70779: Protector of Stone and 70781: Protector of Earth! Instructions for the Oko-Kani. Okoto Mukau The Okoto Mukau is a bovine Rahi most commonly found in the Region of Stone. It spends most of its time grazing, and emits a signature deep moaning noise periodically. Build Okoto Mukau with 70785: Pohatu-Master of Stone, and 70786: Gali-Master of Water! Instructions for the Okoto Mukau. Electric Hawk Electric Hawks are massive, electrically-charged bird-like Rahi. They stalk the deserts, walking on two feet, and they attack by flinging their tail and zapping foes with their electric wings. Build Electric Hawk with 70779: Protector of Stone and 70778: Protector of Jungle! Instructions or the Electric Hawk. Region of Fire Several mighty volcanoes are nested in the fiery Region of Fire. Lava Ussal The Lava Ussal is a small, passive toad-like crab that lives in the lava pits within the Region of Fire. They are not predators of any sort, and spend most of their time lounging around near the villages, emitting their signature rumbling purr. Build Lava Ussal with 70783: Protector of Fire! Instructions for the Lava Ussal. Magma Fox The Magma Foxes of the Region of Fire are one of Okoto's friendliest Rahi. In the wild, they are seen as playful, approachable, kind, and gentle creatures. However, unlike the Region of Stone's Oko Kani, Magma Foxes cannot be domesticated - even when captured as a baby. They tend to be erratic, and difficult to keep in a home. Build Magma Fox with 70783: Protector of Fire and 70782: Protector of Ice! Instructions for the Magma Fox. Komodo The fiercest, most dangerous, and most cunning Rahi on Okoto is the Komodo. They live in the Region of Fire's most hostile areas, often in groups of two or three. They vary in size, but even the smallest Komodos can cripple a villager. They are a similar species to the Oko Maga, however the Komodo are far more dangerous, and significantly larger in size. Build Komodo with Pohatu, Onua, Tahu, Protector of Stone, Protector of Earth, and Protector of Fire! Instructions for the Komodo. Magma Entity The Magma Entities of the Region of Fire are rarely seen on the surface. They are made of pure lava, and are found swimming in the Region's lava pools. They are hostile, but tend to ignore others unless approached. Their only method of attacking involves spraying lava at their opponent. Build Magma Entity with 70783: Protector of Fire and 70787: Tahu-Master of Fire! Magma Strider Magma Striders are found in small numbers along the outskirts of the Region of Fire. They are medium-sized, slow, passive Rahi which tend to migrate throughout the Region's outskirts, avoiding conflict and sticking together. Build Magma Strider with 70783: Protector of Fire and 70787: Tahu-Master of Fire! Baby Phoenix The Baby Phoenix is born from the lava within the Region of Fire's volcanos. Unlike the larger Phoenix, which is solitary and passive, the Baby Phoenix is often seen flying around the volcanos, leaving a trail of fire in its wake. Build Baby Phoenix with 70783: Protector of Fire and 70787: Tahu-Master of Fire! Instructions for the Baby Phoenix. Phoenix The mighty Phoenix nests high up in the Region of Fire's volcanos. It emerges as a baby from the lava itself, and is composed almost entirely of fire. Although it is revered among the Fire villagers, and considered a majestic beast, the Phoenix is an extremely dangerous and solitary Rahi. Build Phoenix with 70783: Protector of Fire, 70787: Tahu-Master of Fire, and 70784: Lewa-Master of Jungle! Instructions for the Phoenix. Region of Earth The western part of Okoto is rich with obsidian fields. It is a black, glasslike and nightmarish place full of treacherous ravines, crevices and deep rifts. Oko Raga The Oko Raga is a small hostile Rahi with immense upper-body strength. It lives underground, in the caves around the Region of Earth. Oko Raga are periodically encountered in the region, and are a formidable foe to any villager. Build Oko Raga with 70781: Protector of Earth! Instructions for the Oko Raga. Oko Maga The Oko Maga is one of the larger Rahi on Okoto. It lives underground, and it is unknown how many are in existence. Only three have been sighted, and every encounter has resulted in death or severe injury. Its natural armor seems to resemble rock, and its claws are used to mangle its prey. Build Oko Maga with 70785: Pohatu-Master of Stone and 70789: Onua-Master of Earth! Instructions for the Oko Maga. Crystal Spineback The Crystal Spineback is a hunched humanoid Rahi with thick rocky skin, and spikes along its skull and shoulders for protection. The heavy beast is often seen digging and exploring, and is slow in nature. They are powerful, but friendly creatures. Build Crystal Spineback with 70783: Protector of Fire and 70781: Protector of Earth! Region of Ice Glaciers and tundra permanently freeze the northern part of Okoto. Great snowstorms blow across the region flashfreezing everything. Ice Bear The Ice Bear is a small, passive Rahi native to the Region of Ice. They dwell in small numbers, keeping to the caves for shelter. Most Ice Bears are seen in the northern glaciers of Okoto. Build Ice Bear with 70782: Protector of Ice! Ice Bat Ice Bats congregate in the glacial caves in the Region of Ice, clinging to the ceiling, disguised as icicles. They are nocturnal creatures, dormant through the day but swarming through the night. They do not take kindly to intruders, and will attack anything that enters their cave. Build Ice Bat with 70782: Protector of Ice and 70780: Protector of Water! Boar Boar inhabit the caves and forests in the Region of Ice. Due to their thick skin, heavy weight, and powerful tusks, the beasts are extremely threatening to villagers and other Rahi. They are known to charge at their opponents, swinging their tusks wildly and smashing everything in their path. Build Boar with 70782: Protector of Ice and 70781: Protector of Earth! Instructions for the Boar. Tarrantis The Region of Ice is home of the Tarranis, one of the deadliest Rahi on Okoto. They occupy large, communal nests immediately beneath the icy ground, swooping to the surface to prey on any living thing that wanders by. Build Tarrantis with 70782: Protector of Ice and 70788: Kopaka-Master of Ice! Region of Water The Region of Water is composed of lakes and thundering rivers that form large deltas as well as strings of fertile islands along the eastern coast of Okoto. Siren Little is known about the Sirens, but they are believed to be intelligent. They live together in large numbers, making homes on the ocean floor around Okoto. Many of them carry weapons, such as spears and tridents. They are small creatures, roughly the size of a child, however they always travel in groups, and are extremely hostile. Build Siren with 70780: Protector of Water! Bottom Feeder Bottom Feeders are bioluminescent creatures common in the Region of Water. They are slightly large, yet completely harmless, and spend their lives sweeping scraps from the ocean floor. Build Bottom Feeder with 70780: Protector of Water and 70778: Protector of Jungle! Instructions for the Bottom Feeder. Tarakava The mighty Tarakava is a large aquatic creature with enormous flippers, strong arms, and graceful fins along its back. It is hostile towards villagers and most Rahi, but due to its size, it keeps to deep waters and is rarely seen near the surface. Build Tarakava with 70780: Protector of Water and 70786 Gali-Master of Water! Instructions for the Tarakava. Region of Jungle Okoto's jungles are dangerous places full of gigantic trees and savage wildlife. The jungles hold the most ancient of the Protector Ruins, now overgrown and forgotten. Parik The Parik are tall, bird-like Rahi. They have long, slender legs and necks, and bushy blue wings folded at their sides. Most Parik are found along the border of the Region of Water, and they are also extremely common in the Region of Jungle. They will ignore others most of the time, but if provoked they are extremely fast runners, and will claw their way out of a fight. Build Parik with 70786 Gali-Master of Water! Purple Happik The plump Purple Happik seems to exist for one simple reason: to bring a smile to every villager's mask after a long day of labor. Their color is a reflection of their attitude, and there is nothing more charming than a flock of Happiks dancing in the wild. They are often found in the Region of Jungle; however, they constantly migrate, so for the most part they are seen all throughout the island. Build Purple Happik with 70789: Onua-Master of Earth! Orange Kuckoo Bird Kuckoo Birds are extremely fast runners, and the most common breed is orange with green. They are independent Rahi, however the medium-sized birds occasionally gather together for stampedes through the Region of Jungle. Build Orange Kuckoo Bird with 70778: Protector of Jungle! Chameleon The large Chameleon is a signature Rahi in the Region of Jungle. Although they are huge in size, Chameleons are rarely seen due to their ability to blend in with their surroundings. The reptiles are revered among the Jungle villagers, and are an intriguing Rahi to all who encounter them. Build Chameleon with 70778: Protector of Jungle, 70787: Tahu-Master of Fire, and 70784: Lewa-Master of Jungle! Instructions for the Chameleon.
  20. Character history: the control himself, the first shadow was a god with powers both the control and management of energy and creation of beings. he and his brother's were devoted to the creation of several Okoto beings, lived several generations of creatures to meet and create. However he was corrupted by ambition and without premeditation he killed his brother. its attempt to dominate the island, was the end of the god and the emergence of the mask of control. about moc: I take long time to make a solid version, lacking ideas to give consistency to the appearance, the idea was to make an impressive character without the need for both golden armor. .
  21. It's still early enough in 2016 to reflect on 2015, so let's talk about great LEGO sets from last year. Specifically, I will be drawing from my own building experiences. Admittedly, regrettably, I still have a few 2015 sets unbuilt. I don't want to become the AFOL stereotype of having hordes of boxes of unbuilt sets. These are not yet built because I thought I'd review them and then I never did and then I realized that Jurassic World sets and Quicksilver's Avengers set would never be on store shelves again after their initial run. But I doubt they'd make this list anyway. The list of my favorite sets stars off with General Grievous, who has a fantastic build and looks great on my shelf. That's saying something, because it's hard to be surprising with constraction sets nowadays, and because I like to think I cannibalize my sets pretty quickly after getting them if I'm in a building phase. But until I build a tan Bionicle MOC, Grievous is here to stay. People can argue about the price, but for the satisfaction of a 45 minute build that is quite intense, it's worth it. I also had the pleasure of building the Helicarrier with 55555 thanks to Toa Lhikan Hordika buying it and then we did a livestream to build it. Good times. It's huge, it's iconic, it has a great build. And I didn't pay for it but got to build it anyway; you'll have to ask TLH if it's worth the $350 plus motor pack. (I bet he'll say yes.) The Doctor Who LEGO Ideas is also worthy of a mention. It's got the minifigs, it has the TARDIS interior and exterior, and it's reasonably priced for a licensed set. Unfortunately it doesn't come in numbered baggies for staged building within the instructions, which means you are searching for parts a lot longer than expected. And finally, I can not forget the Millennium Falcon! It's iconic, has a great build, comes with great play features and hosts some great minifigs. I'll be keeping this displayed on my shelf for at least a year before realizing I need grey angled plates for something. These were my favorite. I build some more, but nothing as stand-out like these. I've already got my hands on a ton of 2016 sets however, some of which already look amazing, and some which can be criticized too. Now to find time to build some.... -CF
  22. Hi, I am looking to finally complete my 2015 collectibles. Does anyone have in their possession the Trans-Dark Blue Mask of Water and are willing to sell it or perhaps trade it for a reasonable price? i have some things for trade if you are looking for just trades thanks edit: one item i have for trade is a sand tarakava replica if anyone is interested
  23. being honest, I never liked titans 2004, but found that the design of the movie pretty well personified sets that year. such nostalgia, was the inpiracion for this version of Krekka that closely adheres to the concept of the movie. based armed with bionicle parts, but for better aesthetics decided to use parts system, the figure also has a system to display the disk launcher. well ... respect to color scheme, I had considered using dark blue instead of dark green, but that would eliminate the chance of using masks Hordika Vakama.
  24. Sign up to be eligible for a Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes demo code! Welcome to Okoto! Here on Okoto, we (and that means everyone!) are obsessed with collecting constructible action figures called ‘Lego Bionicle’ from another universe! How do we do this, you ask? It’s simple, really! We discovered an ancient portal device deep within the Temple of Time a few years back, and ever since then, we’ve been collecting all of these figures like MAD. As far as finding the figures you want… well, that’s a bit of a game of luck. But you never know, the RNG might roll in your favor! One thing we have discovered is that it’s far easier to find figures of a character that shares an element with you. You’re all new here, so let’s dive on in! RULES Have Fun! Do we really need another rule? AVAILABLE FIGURES BIONICLE 2015 – WAVE 1 Protector of Fire (Fire) >> 45% Protector of Ice (Ice) >> 55% Protector of Water (Water) >> 35% Protector of Earth (Earth) >> 45% Protector of Jungle (Jungle) >> 50% Protector of Stone (Stone) >> 50% Tahu, Master of Fire (Fire) >> 17% Kopaka, Master of Ice (Ice) >> 20% Gali, Master of Water (Water) >> 8% Onua, Master of Earth (Earth) >> 12% Lewa, Master of Jungle (Jungle) >> 18% Pohatu, Master of Stone (Stone) >> 21% Lord of Skull Spiders (Shadow/Jungle) >> 4% BIONICLE 2015 – WAVE 2 Skull Grinder (Shadow/Fire) >> 15% Skull Warrior (Shadow/Ice) >> 45% Ekimu (Creation/Water) >> 4% Skull Basher (Shadow/Earth) >> 25% Skull Slicer (Shadow/Jungle) >> 55% Skull Scorpio (Shadow/Stone) >> 35% HOW IT WORKS Each round (48 hours), a new dimension opens. Each player will select three figures from the available list to try and find; I will then spin the RNG from 1-100 for each figure and if it lands on one of the correct numbers, then that player will get that figure. Example: I decide that I want the Protector of Fire, Protector of Stone, and Lord of Skull Spiders this round. I would spin the RNG for all three: -If the RNG lands anywhere between 1 and 55 for the Protector of Fire, I succeed; anything above 55, I fail. -Likewise for the Protector of Stone, I succeed if it lands between 1 and 60, but fail if it lands above 60. -For the Lord of Skull Spiders, because the chance of finding it is only 5%, the RNG needs to land between 1 and 5 in order for me to succeed; it is much harder to “find” than the other two. But let us not forget that you have an element of your own! When attempting to find a figure that shares your element, your chances of finding that increase 1.5x. Example: My element is fire; I want to find the same figures as before. For the Protector of Stone and Lord of Skull Spiders figures, my odds of finding them remain the same: -60% (1-60) for the Protector of Stone -5% (1-5) for the Lord of Skull Spiders -But because I am fire, my odds for the Protector of Fire now look like this: 55x1.5=82(rounded down). This means I have an 82% chance of finding the Protector of Fire (so the RNG can land anywhere between 1 and 82). Certain figures (such as the Lord of Skull Spiders) are associated with two different elements. Whereas only Jungle players would receive the bonus when searching for a figure like the Protector of Jungle, players of both Jungle and Shadow will receive a bonus when searching for the Lord of Skull Spiders. This can help to offset the rarity of certain figures. If your RNG roll fails for a figure, I will spin it a second time. If you own any other figures of that element and the second roll succeeds, you will receive a “duplicate figure”. Duplicates are not worth any less, but they can be traded to other players; if you have two Protector of Fire figures and someone else has a second Protector of Jungle, you could each trade your double in order to attain a figure that you might be lacking. Right now, both waves are available! For Ekimu, all players (except those of the Shadow element) gain the 1.5x bonus; players with the Water element receive a 3.5x bonus. The first player to collect every figure will win! COLLECTIONS ROUND ONE ROUND TWO ROUND THREE ROUND FOUR ROUND FIVE SIGNUPS In order to signup, post saying so, and also post your element. You may choose from the following: -Fire -Ice -Water -Earth -Jungle -Stone -Shadow Signups will remain open for 48 hours, after which they shall be closed and the game will begin. There isn’t a limit to how many people can play, so feel free to invite all of your friends! PLAYERS 1. Blade 2. fishers64 3. Toa Chuck 4. Pahrak 5. Bonkle 6. Forgotten Chronicler 7. FF 8. Nescent 9. 25. I wrote this short story as my secret santa gift to Dina Saruyama; in it, a Matoran character (named after but not necessarily based upon her, except the love for dinosaurs) runs into a strange robot in the jungle of Bota-Magna. The robot is in a state of disrepair, and the two discuss the holidays and a few other things. --- BY THE FIRESIDE It’s the holidays again. Just like every year. She’ll be spending them alone. Just like every year. Everyone spends the rest of the year as normal, perfectly content to be alone, perfectly content to be horrible to each other, perfectly content to pretend as if they haven’t already started walking back down the exact same path that they had managed to stray from. But then it’s two weeks before the Reformation anniversary, and suddenly it’s not okay to be alone, it’s not okay to be horrible to each other, it’s not okay to pretend as if they haven’t already started walking back down the exact same path that they had managed to stray from, even though they’re supposedly celebrating the fact that they strayed at all. Forgetting that they should have found new path to walk along instead. It doesn’t matter to her very much anyway; she’s become something of a non-presence ever since the reformation. Well, since before the Reformation if she’s honest with herself, but at least back then everybody was too busy fighting one war after another to even care about who was who. Nowadays with the peace and society long ago back to normal in the twenty-five years it has been, there’s plenty of room and plenty of time for people like her to become outcasts. She hasn’t done anything wrong per se. But her views don’t align neatly with the mindless, shambling horde that most of the former Great Spirit Robot inhabitants have become. On most matters, she disagrees even more with the planet’s natives. Despite Mata-Nui’s best efforts and final wishes, the divide between Spherus-Magnans and her own kind is clear, and it grows by the day. They might be in a time of peace, but it is a messy one. Flimsy, and liable to snap at any moment. She can feel another war looming on the horizon, despite any and all attempts to pretend as if it isn’t so. It’s part of why, when the holidays come, she does not celebrate with everyone else. For them, it is designed to be a time of joy, a time of companionship. They partake in what they claim to be ‘remembering’, but it would be more accurately labelled as ‘forgetting’, what with their grand tales of triumph, and the few quiet moments during the wars in which they felt happy. For her, it is a time of frustration and loneliness. She remembers, more than anyone, what it was like before the Reformation. She can share tales of loss and devastation. Her quiet moments during the wars involve sitting by the side of friends as they died. So when the holidays roll around and the rest of the society jumps up to party with smiles and laughter, she instead withdraws into herself, travelling alone. She tried remaining in the city for the first few years, but found it to be immensely challenging. It is far easier to take on the holidays alone. Every year, she journeys to the Bota-Magna forests and sets up camp in the trees, and studies. She studies the fauna, she studies the insects, she studies the animals, and she studies everything else. Her focus this year (and every year before, and it will be every year to follow) is the dinosaurs. They are gargantuan, many of them the largest land creatures that Spherus-Magna has to offer. Some of them feed only on plants; others only on meat; others still on metal. She hates the metal eaters. They aren’t natural; no living organic creature has ever or will ever require metal to sustain itself unless tampered with. And make no mistake, the dinosaurs she studies – all of them, every single one of them – has been tampered with. It took place long, long ago, millennia upon millennia before the reformation, back before even the shattering, when the once-mythical Great Beings still roamed the planet, experimenting everything they knew and creating everything they saw. The Great Beings modified the dinosaurs. She has not found a single dinosaur across her years of studying them that does not have armored plating growing on top of its skin. Certain dinosaurs have other enhancements, although all of the additions are rather obsolete compared to the Great Beings’ later work. She is thankful for this small blessing; it will make it easier for her to remove the so-called enhancements and return the dinosaurs to their natural state. Still, one small blessing does not stop her from hating the beings that were so self-absorbed and narcissistic to believe themselves as ‘great’. Shaking her head to clear it, she returns to her work, and her studies. --- For two full days, she has fleshed out her studies, venturing further and further into the Bota-Magna forest. She walks among the dinosaurs – the more peaceful plant-eaters, at least – and they are unbothered by her scent, by now familiar with it after all of these years. As she does each year, she ventures forth where she has not ever gone before, slowly crossing the great expanse of trees, taking notes and studying her new surroundings, leaving markers so that she will not lose her way (although if she did, she would not be worried). The afternoon is slowly fading away into evening as the sun sets and the sky is swathed in shades of pink and orange when she makes a new discovery. One of the dinosaurs pokes at a heap of metal with one leg before huffing and stomping away; curiosity gets the better of her and, rather than follow the dinosaur, she instead slips through the trees towards the heap of metal. When she is finally standing over it, she realizes that it is not merely some pile of junk, but rather a humanoid robot; albeit it in great disrepair. It is clad in armor of gunmetal gray, highlighted by bright red. Its mask is the vibrant red, although the eyes are dark and lifeless, and there is a scar running through its left eye. As her eyes trail across the rest of the robot, she takes in the damage. Its left arm hangs loosely, there is a small crater in its chest, and armor is clearly missing from every other limb. The shredded pieces of what she can only guess to be some sort of projectile launcher are embedded in its right shoulder, the attachment for the missing launcher sparking ever few seconds. Wires are visible all over the body, and rust eats at the edges of every armor piece. She recognizes this robotic body; the name flickers in the back of her mind. Maxilos. Yes, that is its name. She remembers tyrants using many of them as personal guards when they ruled in the Coliseum of Metru-Nui, and later the Order of Mata-Nui using legions of the mindless robots to enforce their own rule across the universe before the Destiny War. She remembers fighting against them, destroying them. She remembers being assigned to re-program them during the Destiny War, and succeeding; how the robots had helped to tip the scales in favor of those fighting for freedom, and how they had held the last lines of defence so that they could emerge victorious during the Reformation War. She also remembers every single one of them later being melted down, having been declared unreliable. So what is one doing all the way out here, fifty-seven years later? --- She drags what is left of the robot to her campsite and sits it up against a tree across the campfire from her tent. She leaves it be as she builds up the fire, adding logs to keep the flames going as night falls and the air grows chilly. She has just finished building a very rough spit to cook her evening meal and sat down to rest when the robot shudders, activating on its own and turning to look at her, bright blue eyes gleaming in the night. In a flash, she has her disk launcher loaded with a fragmentation disk and aimed directly at the Maxilos unit; it does not react. The fire crackles. They stare at each other for a full minute before the robot’s mouth opens and it speaks, its mechanical voice sounding far more human – and far more tired – than it should. “Where are we?” She glares at it suspiciously, but answers its question nonetheless, her voice sharp and cutting. “Bota-Magna.” The Maxilos unit slowly nods, turning to gaze into the fire, sighing (she ignores this; it must be her imagination, for robots do not sigh). After a long moment, it speaks again. “…what year is it?” She ignores how weak and tired it sounds, but once again gives it the answer it is looking for. “Twenty-five years since the Reformation.” It nods again. “Good… at least I know that system is functioning,” it says, sounding, for all intents and purposes, like a Matoran itself. “You may lower your weapon… rest assured that I will not harm you. Even if I wished to do so, well, I think my current state speaks for itself.” She lowers the disk launcher, but keeps a wary eye on the Maxilos unit as she does so. “You don’t sound like a Maxilos unit.” “I should hope not,” the robot replies, chuckling softly. “I thought they were all melted down,” she continues. The robot glances up at her before responding, “they were; all of the others have been gone for… what did you say? Twenty-five years, give or take. I am the only one left.” “You’re autonomous. You shouldn’t be.” “You’re right,” the robot says, nodding along before looking at her expectantly. “What might that mean?” “Either you’ve somehow become self-aware, or you’re not a Maxilos.” The robot chuckles again. “Believe it or not, both are correct. This Maxilos unit did become self-aware; about fifty-seven years ago for you, thanks to the influence of a Ba-Matoran named Quisoves. Of course, its AI is long gone now; the body remains, but the AI reached its natural point of decay nearly two centuries ago.” “Two centuries ago? I thought you said it became self-aware only fifty-seven years ago.” “Fifty-seven years for you,” the robot corrects. “For me, that date was nearly four hundred years ago, give or take. It becomes hard to keep track of time when you travel through dimensions as I have.” “You’re not making any sense,” she says, scowling. “I do not expect you to understand,” the robot says, sounding regretful. “But to finish answering the question you have not asked… yes, I am not a Maxilos. Once, I was a Matoran rather like you; a Ba-Matoran, actually, although not the one that made this unit self-aware. I was dying, but… well, I am rather smart. I found a way to insert my ‘soul’, so to speak, inside this machine instead; and in here I have remained, ever since.” “You cheated death.” “Yes.” “Was it worth it?” The robot shrugs. “Is anything worth it? The moment you begin living, each step you take is one step closer to dying. At the end of the day, one begins to wonder whether there is a point to anything at all.” “You’re avoiding the question,” she notes. “I am,” the Maxilos replies, tilting its head in acknowledgement. “Perhaps it was worth it. Who knows? The mission I took part in may have failed if I had not transferred my soul into this machine. So maybe it was worth it, in a way. But to me… I would wager that it was not worth it, no. Most days that I am awake and aware, I find myself regretting more than accepting.” “Why did you do it?” she asks. “Why not just allow yourself to pass on?” “I was afraid,” the robot says, so quietly that she struggles to hear it. “Afraid of death, of the blankness and the void that would follow. I may regret many things, but if there is one thing I do know, it is how to survive. How to avoid death, to forestall it and delay it. I still fear it, to be truthful with you; but I have come to accept that I cannot flee from it for much longer.” Silence falls between them for several minutes as she ponders the robot’s words and the robot stares blankly into the fire. She wraps some dough around a bit of meat and sticks it onto the spit, slowly turning it over the flames. The edges slowly begin to darken as it cooks; she sprinkles a few spices over top of it, and the smell wafts into the air. Once it is finished, she grabs a pair of tongs and pries her meal off of the spit, touching it to her palm and absorbing all of the nutrients until all that remains is a husk. She shakes the tongs and the husk vanishes into dust that blows away with the breeze. Setting two more logs upon the fire, she turns her gaze upon the robot again to find it watching her with something akin to curiosity in its eyes. “What?” she asks. “I was simply wondering why you might be all the way out in the forests of Bota-Magna at this time of year, all alone,” it replies. “It is the holidays, is it not? The anniversary of the Reformation?” She cannot stop the frown from appearing on her face. “It is.” “You do not celebrate it like everyone else?” The frown turns into a scowl. “Do you?” The Maxilos unit shakes it head, looking away into the darkness outside of the campsite. “No. I remember what the Reformation War was like, and the Destiny War, and even the Uprising War before that, as well as my experiences travelling outside of this universe. The celebrations… they merely remind me that society is once again blind to its faults. They refuse to see, acknowledge, or accept that they have set themselves back upon the same path that led to those wars in the first place.” She nods mutely, some of the robot’s words ringing ominously in her ears. “Besides all of that,” the robot continues, sagging slightly, “my friends and I were too weary to play much of a role in those latter two wars. We played our part in the Uprising War, but nobody remembers that.” I do, she thinks, but she does not share it out loud. “Who are you?” she asks instead, hoping to turn the conversation away from the wars. “Someone far beyond their years,” the robot replies, waving the question away. “Who are you?” “Someone alone,” she answers, “who recognizes the faults of society and is powerless to help it.” The Maxilos unit nods as if in understanding; perhaps, she reasons, it does. “So you avoid the celebrations. What do you do instead?” “I study the dinosaurs,” she says, her mood growing bitter again. “I want to fix them.” “Fix them?” “The Great Beings ruined them. They’re unnatural now; armor plating where they should have feathers, some feeding on machines and energy instead of meat and plantlife,” she snaps. “I want to fix them someday, turn them back to how they should be.” The robot nods again. “Your quest is admirable.” She cannot help but gaze at the robot with disbelief; the robot chuckles. “It is true,” it says. “You have clearly dedicated yourself to what many would call a hopeless and insurmountable task. You seek to return something to how it should be, rather than obliviously leave it be, and I respect that. In fact… if you would allow me to, I believe I might be able to help you.” “I… don’t understand,” she replies, shaking her head. “You… agree with me? Most people don’t.” “I am not most people,” the robot responds, sighing forlornly. “More than most, I understand what it means - what it is like - to be alone. I know that it is freeing. I know that it is also a burden, one not often willingly undertaken.” “Perhaps I want to be alone,” she says. The fire pops and crackles. “Do you?” the robot asks. “It is the holidays, after all. A time meant for gathering with friends and others close to you. You spend them alone every single year, or so it would seem. Is it because you want to, or because you have to?” The silence stretches for a long moment before she finally answers, “a little bit of both.” “If it helps… I do have information - and some leads - that might help to speed up the pace of your project. Allow for progress you might not otherwise make,” the robot continues, holding out its hand. “Look at this.” She watches as a blue hologram flickers into view, hovering a few inches above the robot’s palm. It is a sphere, one she recognizes as Spherus-Magna. A red dot blinks somewhere in the northern hemisphere of the planet; as she watches, the hologram zooms in towards the marked location. “During my travels, I came across a Great Being, one who was turned insane after coming into contact with the Mask of Life,” the robot says, its voice barely a whisper. “He was imprisoned, and wished to escape his bonds; I helped him to do so, and in return he offered me this. A map of the entire planet, one that would help me to track down others.” “Others?” “Other Great Beings,” the Maxilos unit clarified. “He claimed that most had fled the planet long ago, or simply died; but there is one who grew to hate what they had become and what they had done. A Great Being that might be sympathetic to your cause, and be… persuaded to help you.” “I will not deal with Great Beings,” she snaps. “And how exactly do you plan to return the dinosaurs of Bota-Magna to their proper, natural state without them?” She frowns. “I haven’t gotten that far yet. I’ll find a way.” “I’m saying that you don’t need to, not necessarily,” the robot replies. “If we can find this Great Being, and he agrees to help us, your task might be completed sooner than you had imagined. But I am sure that, should you decide against accepting his help, he would value that decision.” She scowls at the fire. “And maybe I simply don’t want to fix the problem. Each year, it gives me something to do, an excuse to escape the celebrations of a war that would be better off forgotten entirely rather than half-remembered. If I solve the problem, what am I supposed to do then?” “Find another problem, of course,” the robot says quietly. “It is what I do. It’s what all of my friends do as well, or so I hear. There are many projects of the Great Beings active on this planet, some more harmful than they are good; they could keep you busy for many years.” The fire crackles. She closes her eyes and sighs. “Fine. Let’s find this Great Being. But I reserve the right to refuse any help he offers… as well as the right to kick him for every wrong he has done to this planet.” “Of course.” “One more thing, then, before I retire for the evening,” she says. “If I am going to be travelling with you, I want to know your name.” The Maxilos unit turns its gaze to her. The hologram in its palm flickers away; somehow, its bright blue eyes look lost and alone. “You can call me Tex.” She holds out her hand; the robot shakes it. “Well, Tex, it is nice to meet you. You can call me Dina.” If it was possible for a Maxilos unit to smile, the robot was now doing just that. “It is nice to meet you as well, Dina. I look forward to the adventure that awaits us.” The robot sits back against the tree, closing its eyes. It becomes still and silent, shifting into some sort of sleep mode. She remains by the fireside, gazing into the flickering flames. The crackling of the fire is calming, and soothing; she waits until it has burned out and the night is dark and silent before retiring to her tent. She sleeps soundly for the first time in years, and it is good. End.
