  1. Our beloved beardie passed away, recently. Her name was Puku, after Takua's ussal crab. I wanted to commemorate her in some way, and considering her name, building her likeness from Bionicle parts seemed fitting. Due to an injury from before she came to us, she missed part of her tail and several toes. I tried to represent this as best I could on the model. Puku in real life:
  2. “Vakama…” Vakama began to stir from the strange voice. In his half-awake state, he felt that, somehow, the voice was familiar to him. “Vakama, arise…” Mostly awake now, Vakama fumbled around on his mask, trying to find the switch for his filtration unit, mumbling subtle curses on whoever had mixed up and sent fumes from the Great Furnace into the air ducts to his living quarters a few months ago. Ready for the new day, disengaged the ventilation unit on his mask and took a deep breath… Which filled his lungs with the stasis fluid surrounding him. He panicked and flailed about, thinking he was drowning for a few moments in his unfamiliar surroundings before re-engaging his ventilation unit and accustoming himself to breathing the medicinal substance. He hurriedly felt around the darkened space he was in, noting the curved walls were indicative of a healing canister, though, with no transparent wall, it was clear this one was… different. As he passed his hands along the inside of the chamber, part of the surface gave way, emitting a bright red light, startling Vakama. To add to his confusion and panic, he soon found his canister being tipped over. Whatever was keeping the fluid locked in the canister suddenly gave way, as Vakama shortly found himself blinded by light, coughing up stasis gunk and feeling quite cold. “Wha-where…?” Vakama muttered to himself, trying to get his bearings from the large entryway that was once the top of his canister, though his view was mostly blocked by a figure posing, which he supposed was intended to look heroic. “Ah, another Toa to join in our ranks!” The figure looked backwards as another figure, larger and lopsided, walked forwards, looking into the canister as well. “Nokama says we look like Toa. That doesn’t mean we are…” The new figure absentmindedly rubbed his disproportionately large arm. After a few moments, he turned to Vakama and reached inside. “Come on, let’s get you out of here.” He hooked his large hand around Vakama’s body, pulling him out of the canister and setting him onto his own two feet. With his surroundings changed again, Vakama took some time to figure out where exactly he was. The ceiling was ribbed, with eight circular gaps in between each of the support struts. The walls were curved, dome-shaped, with circular portholes covering most of it. Stone and metal were melded together in such a way so that the piping seemed to grow straight from the sides. Underneath the gaps in the ceiling, the floor had raised sockets, most of which currently held canisters not unlike the one he just been pulled out of. Evidence of Stone, Iron, and Fire sector craftmanship. If he were to have to guess, based on what he read of history books, Vakama would have say… Tenth era, Krom-style architecture. Placing them in or around the Great City’s center. Try as he might, Vakama did not find a discernible exit. “Hey… is the new guy alright?” The bright light-stones embedded in the ceiling let him properly see the strangers around him. The first figure to appear at his canister was green in coloration, indicative of the Jungle sector. The mask he wore was slightly rectangular, and extended far over the top of his head. He was also not wearing any armor at all. Now that Vakama looked around, he realized no one was wearing armor, their organic components all exposed. That explains why he was feeling cold. “Uh… where’s my armor?” “Same place as mine, I suppose.” Mumbled the large, lopsided one. “We’re all as naked as the day we were built!” The green one exclaimed, a big, stupid smile plastered on his face. Vakama made a mental note to attempt to ignore the green one for the time being. What the big one said made sense. If they were all in medical canisters, surely someone had to have removed their armor so the stasis fluid could heal- or change- them however it needed to. “Well, uh, I suppose… introductions are in order?” The big one outstretched his larger hand to Vakama, before realizing his error and switching it for his smaller, normal-sized left hand. “I’m Whenua. I work… or, well, I think I still work in the archives.” Vakama, after a few misses, managed to shake his hand. “Vakama. Forge-work. Mostly disk and mask-making.” “Still trying to get used to the taller body, I see!” The green one jumped into the conversation. (Almost quite literally.) To Vakama’s dismay, Whenua stepped back from the two, letting him take center stage. “Took me a few tries, but I got the hang of it! I’m Matau, wise, resourceful, and ever-energetic!” Great. “That beautiful blue scholar over there is the lovely Nokama.“ She rolled her eyes, put on a smile, and waved to the two of them. Matau, of course, waved back, grin bigger than ever. “She was the first of us to wake up, followed by yours truly.” “The brown fellow sitting there with the I-am-really-annoyed-by-Matau-look on his face is Onewa!” Matau pointed to the final member of their odd company, “The icy guy in the corner hasn’t spoken one bit yet, but I’m gonna make him talk and be friendly if it’s the-” “Nuju.” “Uh. Okay… That’s Nuju! The cold, icy, and… slightly scary.” The aperture in Nuju’s eyepiece contracted, stared down the offending citizen of the jungle sector, then turned to Vakama. “Ingrown.” Vakama stared blankly, puzzled at the odd, seemingly random word. Nuju sighed. “Our old armor is now ingrown. Covered in new organic components.” He tapped his chest for emphasis. “We have been changed” Vakama let out a short laugh. “Well of course. But into what, exactly? I can’t exactly go home and try and act like nothing’s changed about me.” The room was silent. Apparently this hadn’t occurred to anyone else. That, or they didn’t want to think about it. “But, isn’t that a good thing?” Matau asked. His happy-go-lucky demeanor dropped like a stone. “Think about it. We’ve been given a chance. We’re Toa now, those fated to become heroes!” “Matau.” Nokama spoke. “I said we looked like Toa. Yes, most of us are the right build. But there are some… ” She paused, glancing at Whenua, then gesturing to the cansiters and the rest of the room. “…Differences from how we know Toa come to be. They are built as Toa, and die as Toa. They come from somewhere over the Great Ocean, and when they come, their numbers vary. But there are never six sent to any of the islands. Never six toa. The only group of six Toa will come from the stars!” Vakama nodded. Everyone had heard of The Prophecy of Ekimu. “Did we come from the stars? Or over the sea? Nuju, Onewa, and Whenua met each other before this! By our own admission, we were just Tekoans before… before whenever this happened.” “But, if we aren’t Toa,” Onewa began, standing up. “Why can I do this?” He clenched his fist and made a downwards pulling motion. With a rumbling, His seat was quickly pulled into the stone floor underneath them. He turned back to the shocked group. “The stones just… call to me. I somehow… knew I can control them. I don’t know how I knew… but I must have this ability for a reason, right? Toa have elemental powers, don’t they?” “Lhikan could control and create fire. Tuyet could form ice wherever she touched.” Vakama offered. He didn’t really pay much attention to what the Toa could do. Well, when they were still around. After they started vanishing, many people from the different sectors started trying to investigate the disappearances, though many who searched… well… “You could just be the only one of us who is a Toa.” Whenua mumbled. “Or I could be the only one who isn’t.” “But that still doesn’t account for how we were once Tekoans! Having powers could mean anything! Toa are built as Toa. You don’t become a Toa!” Nokama was clearly adamant on her stance. “Whatever we are, we are not Toa.” “…Who cares?” Matau asked, shrugging. “We look like Toa.” He pointed to Onewa. “He, at least, has the powers of a Toa. No one outside will ever know the difference. We can still be heroes!” Even Nokama paused at that one. He was right. Even if they weren’t Toa, they were given this opportunity, they could use it. “I found armor. And tools. Follow me.” The group was so embroiled in their argument, they didn’t even notice the quiet Nuju had slipped out of the room and returned. They followed him down a large and surprisingly cold corridor, with Whenua following close behind Nuju, and Vakama and Matau shivering in the back. Vakama seemed to be the most affected by the chill of the cavernous passage, and not being used to his new legs did not help him keep pace with those in front. Matau, on the other hand, lagged behind because he kept on tripping over rocks he couldn’t see, with every trip bringing a new line of curses. Vakama found he had never heard most of them before, and, judging from Onewa’s chuckles and Nokama’s glances of disapproval, were very, very profane. “How did you find the exit?” Nokama spoke up, drawing everyone’s attention away from Matau for the time being. “Secret mechanism.” Nuju pointed to Onewa. “His seat.” After many twists and turns, with multiple branches to the path going who knows where, it dawned on Vakama that there was no natural way Nuju had been able to take to this supposed armory. The only thing that made sense to him was that, somehow, the labyrinth had called to him. The tunnel had led them into a great room twice the size of the one they had woken up in. The same circular portholes lined the walls, carrying sets upon sets of armor, tools and weapons within them. The center was raised, circular in shape, with arches along its side, revealing that the interior was hollow. Walking up the steps jutting out from it revealed that the top of it was like a bowl, with a gutter leading off the other side into rectangular depressions in the floor. Surrounding it were seven smaller raised sections, flat and solid, with the eighth open at the top, their hexagonal shape jarring with the rest of the room, . They looked though the old sets of armor, each attempting to find a fitting set for themselves. It soon became apparent that only a few pieces of the available armor were compatible with their specific armor-plugs. The rest of the armor wasn’t even wearable, some pieces seemed to even be torn in two. They found shoulder plates, gauntlets and greaves that fit on most everyone, even Whenua found coverings for his massive arm. Vakama was the only one that found a fitting chest-piece for himself, with a vented bevor positioned just slightly above the center of his chest. The others were not so lucky. The light-stones in the walls burned a bright red-orange, illuminating the room like the furnaces Vakama had worked in all his life. He turned to the center of the room, recognizing the intended purpose of the raised portion. It was a furnace… and it was…calling to him. He pulled a forge-staff from one of the portholes, and, like in a trance, Vakama used the it as a lever to pull one of the light-stones from the wall, took it to the furnace, and smashed it. Flames licked up from the broken crystal, igniting the smelting furnace. “Come on, help me get this stuff into the top.” Vakama grunted, lifting rusted pieces and dumping them into the basin. The others, after some time and passing looks to each other, followed suit, picking up more and more, until Vakama gave the word. “Okay, I think that’s enough.” “Yeah, that’s great and all, fire-spitter, but enough for what?” Matau wheezed. Even Whenua looked tired from carrying all the junk pieces to the top. “Armor.” Vakama replied, engaging his ventilation unit as the fumes started to rise. “Didn’t you say you only did masks and disks?” Nokama asked, also trying to catch her breath. “First time for everything!” Using the tongs segment like an ink well, he dipped the tip into the molten metal, pulling up a good amount into the disk reservoir. He plunged the burning mess into the open pedestal, the quenching tank bubbling and gurgling. Vakama drew the new disk out of the tank, the silver quenching liquid dripping off the beveled shape. Type-7, repair and regeneration. Duration and uses: indefinite. Perfect for incorporating into armor. As Matau alternated entertaining and annoying the rest of the group with stories and jokes, Vakama poured molten metal from the foundry into ingot molds. From there, he hammered and bent them over the hexagonal anvils until they matched their desired form. With each new piece of armor, he added in a part of the disk. The satisfying hiss of armor-plugs into their sockets proved that Vakama had done his job well, each piece fitting its respective owner as if they were built into it. Glowing patterns splayed out from the each of the incorporated disk fragments, slowly spreading coloration of their respective owner’s native element across the chest-plate. “Wow…” Whenua tapped his new armor in amazement of how even the right side was beveled outwards to be able to comfortably fit his odd form. “Adequate.” commented Nuju. Probably the best complement anyone could have received from him. “I like the style, but its color doesn’t match my-” Onewa at this point physically restrained Matau from completing his joke. “They’re wonderfully made, Vakama,” Nokama said for the whole company, “Thank you.” “I have some metal left over. I’d like put it to some use… I could make weapons or something. If you don’t mind waiting a bit longer.” “Swords! Swords are a must-have!” Matau had broken free of Onewa’s grasp, and was now spouting random facts about uses of different types of swords. “Okay, okay. I’ll make you some swords,” Vakama held up his hand, signaling Matau to be quiet. “Anyone else?” “Ice-pick batons.” Nuju requested, “Climbing should be primary function.” The others were content with choosing a weapon or tool from the armory. “In the meantime, anyone who wants to help me find the exit is welcome to join me.” Nokama called to the team. All but Whenua went with her, Onewa and Matau attempting to strike up conversations with Nuju as they exited the room. The exploration party left the room and returned multiple times, still unable to find the real exit. “Whelp. That was a bust. It’s really dark back there. Someone used to that kind of darkness could really come along…” Matau said pointedly. Whenua, who had been watching Vakama work intently up until this point, sighed and got up from his seat, joining the rest of the party. Vakama was slightly glad to be by himself, the only noises that of the hammer against the metal and quenching liquid hissing against the hot metal. After he had finished the Matau’s swords and Nuju’s ice batons, he took the time to look over the tools the others had picked out. Nokama had picked out an odd set of tools… or were they weapons? The blade end was shaped like a crescent moon, attached to a hilt and guard, two triggers placed were the index finger would go when wielded. Some sort of cylinder was in the middle of the blade, perhaps housing some sort of chain, or rope. Whenua chose a weaponized gauntlet with a motorized chisel at the end of the knuckles. A ‘thumper,’ of sorts, like the kind the archivists use to drive away creatures from the archives. Onewa chose a mace-and-chain, large and relatively simple, the handle end having a small stone-carving hammer attached to it. Vakama had taken his time, trying to determine which tool he would use to define himself as a toa. Despite all his thinking, he had decided on the forge-staff he had picked up. He examined the beautiful hammer-tongs combination, silver gears, levers and switches lining its side, each one performing a different function. What he would have given to have had this when Elder Dume commissioned him to make a mask… He had completely forgotten about that. It would have been his life’s work, the masterpiece of everything he had ever forged. He couldn’t just abandon the project just because he had changed, he could still finish it, he just needed- “Yo, Vakama, buddy, we found the exit! Let’s go!” Matau called, slinging his new swords around his waist, re-positioning them onto his back, then back around his waist, trying to figure out which one made him look cooler. “Seriously, Vakama.” Onewa looked stern, “You need to see this.” As he followed the other five carefully down the pitch-black corridor, Whenua in the lead, he got the feeling that everyone was unsettled by what they had seen outside. Outside the great temple’s doors, Vakama saw what had disturbed his new allies. Blockades covered most of the streets, forcing citizens to funnel through controlled lanes. Above them, projected onto the side of a crystalline building, was Elder Dume’s face, a recording of his voice broadcast in such a way that it seemed as if he could be talking right in front of them. “… We now have confirmation of… disruptors in our midst, representations of the outside world, synonymous with the darkest vices of violence, ignorance and decay. Bear with your loyal Vahki guardians, as they will soon rectify this incursion. If they ask you to do anything for them, please comply, as it will certainly aid in the capture of these dissidents. Remember, despite it being a regrettable action, our city has closed its borders for your protection, to prevent such anti-citizens from continuing to invade our land. This city is a gleaming beacon of purity and stability, and I believe it is in all our best interests to keep it as such. Keep our city pure. Keep it safe. If you see something strange, something out of the ordinary, report it to your local Vahki protectors. Civic deeds will be greatly rewarded. Should we fail to uphold our laws, even if it seems like the right thing to do, the consequences could be… cataclysmic.” As the recording started to repeat, the group suddenly became aware of all the stares they were getting, all the fingers pointing their way, whispers and murmurs travelling from person to person. A few citizens walked in the opposite direction from where they were going, presumably on their way to alert Vahki guards. --------- Review Topic
  3. Let's talk about it. Do you think LEGO prioritizing their Star Wars CCBS lead to them neglecting their original CCBS property? Did BIONICLE having to compete w/ Star Wars CCBS end up ending the line? Or would BIONICLE G2 still have come to an early end whether or not Star Wars CCBS was a thing?
  4. Hi, guys. Noticing my topic and having nostalgic feelings about Bionicle G2's end last year (Link: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/25062-its-been-a-year-since-bionicle-g2s-end/?do=findComment&comment=1132118 )? Well, I would also like to use another way to remember that horrible by making this other topic, which is about making sad speech about the terrible cancellation. So, what would you like to say to remember the cancellation last year. For me, I said this in Instagram yesterday: "Last year, on July 29, 2016, a franchise, and primarily a Lego action figure toy line, called Bionicle 2015-2016, or Bionicle G2 as many Bionicle fans would like to call it, had been cancelled suddenly by Lego after two years of running for some strange reason. This is the second time it happened, as the first was in 2010, when G2's predecessor, Bionicle 2001-2010, or G1, got cancelled. G2 is the reboot of G1, and it is about a group of six bio-mechanical and heroic warriors called the Toa, who have powers based on elements of natures, saving the island of Okoto from a villain named Makuta and his evil helpers, including Skull Creatures, Umarak, and Elemental Beasts. The Toa are Tahu, Gali, Lewa, Kopaka, Pohatu, and Onua, and their powers can create and control Fire, Water, Jungle, Ice, Stone, and Earth (as in ground), respectively. The Toa also have to collect magical golden masks called the Masks of Power, which can enhance their powers, awaken the island's good-hearted ruler named Ekimu the Mask Maker, find magical and legendary creatures called the Elemental Creatures, and find legendary masks called the Mask of Creation, Mask of Control, and Mask of Ultimate Power during their adventures. Many fans, including me, felt extremely sad to see Bionicle get cancelled again. We were also extremely sad about Bionicle on its first cancellation, and waited four-and-a-half years for its return. We were so happy, as it was a big part of our childhoods. When Lego announced Bionicle's return on September 2014, during my birthday, I considered it to be my birthday present. I went to the New York Comic Con 2014 convention to see it happen, and it was one of my greatest moments of my life. I liked G2, and it got some neat stuff, like new builds, artwork, and a TV show in Netflix. It broke my heart when the second cancellation happened. Man, this is like The Amazing Spider-Man movie series in 2012-2014 all over again. There may be no replacement coming this year, but hopefully next year. I hope Bionicle will come back again, too, maybe next year as well. R.I.P., Bionicle, again. You are missed. Long live it, too." (crying in tears) Here's the link for this speech: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXKB696FiyT/?hl=en I also made a post showing the Toa Uniters and Ekimu putting their masks on their chests to show their sadness about the cancellation. Here's the link for this, too: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXKCI0alMsY/?hl=en Well, there you have it. What speech would you like to say to our dear Bionicle G2's cancellation last year.
  5. Hi, guys. Today is the day when Bionicle G2 ended last year. The date for that is July 29, 2016. In that day, Lego announced that G2 ends in 2016, at the same time the final two episodes of a TV show, Bionicle: The Journey to One, aired. These two episodes were about the Toa Uniters and Ekimu fighting against Umarak the Destroyer and his new minions called the Elemental Beasts. Then, the Toa fought against Makuta for two minutes at the very end to end G2's story. It's rushed. Bionicle G2 lasted for two years from 2015 to 2016 instead of continuing in at least 2017. Lego had a planned third year, which is 2017, so it never happened due to the cancellation. Lego hadn't told us why they made a business decision to cancel G2. We always make a lot of guesses, and I think that Lego was having trouble with priorities with other themes, like Ninjago, Nexo Knights, Mixels, DC Comics, Marvel, Lego Dimensions, and Star Wars, which would explain how G2 wasn't doing as well as G1. (Plus, I kind of blame Nexo Knights for G2's cancellation). Aw, man. It's like The Amazing Spider-Man movie series in 2012-2014 all over again (See the comparisons between the two franchises: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/23229-bionicle-g2-and-the-amazing-spider-man-movies-are-alike/ ). Anyway, Bionicle G2 was the latest constraction theme with an original story by Lego. Now, this year, without that kind of theme, constraction is doing poorly because there is no constraction theme with an original story by Lego this year. It's just at least eight Star Wars constraction sets. (Here's the link about it: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/24467-the-dark-agegreat-depression-of-constraction/ ). To be honest, buying sets from a constraction theme with an original Lego by Lego is the only hobby that I have other than Lego Dimensions (It's not doing well nowadays and people say that it's going to be cancelled this this as a theory). Without the constraction theme or Lego Dimensions, I have no other Lego sets to want to buy. Bionicle G2 was the only thing to keep my constraction-based-hobby alive, since it got cancelled, that hobby of mine is gone. Also anyway, well, we could hope that Bionicle could come back again somehow. We may get G3, and hopefully, it would be very great like Spider-Man: Homecoming this year, much better than G2, and like G1 or better. Also hopefully, that would bring the golden age of constraction again. We all miss Bionicle again. (crying in tears of sadness) Anyway, how's things since that day? For me, I'm still depressed and feel like that I sort of don't having a purpose in buying Lego sets without Bionicle G2 or a constraction theme with an original story by Lego other than Lego Dimensions.
  6. Kulta the Skull Grinder inhaled the musky air of the boneyard and exhaled hungrily. There were souls to harvest here, make no mistake. With each step he took, grey dust swirled up from millennia of abandonment. What had once been the island's centre of culture and glory was now only home to plant-covered ruins and bones. How proud the Okotans had been, driving away Kulta and his people, and now their homes were nothing more than ashes. The old shaman inhaled again. The soul he was seeking was nearby. His dark master Makuta had been quite clear on the power of the Toa. He would need an army unlike anything the island had seen before to stop them. He had his pawns the Skull Warriors, his knights the Skull Scorpios, and his fortress the Skull Basher; but Kulta required one more piece. To be sure, the Skull Basher was a mighty warrior, his closest ally and bodyguard, but Kulta was no fool. A combination of brains and brawn would be needed to win the day. He needed a lieutenant who could rely on cunning and surprise to outwit the Toa. As his staff began to glow, Kulta smiled. He could sense a great intellect, athletic skill, and an unbreakable tie to this world. This spirit was clinging to its bones like a castaway clinging to a log. Just the sort of being worth reviving. Drawing wide a circle in the ashy ground with his staff, Kulta began the dark incantation. Mel kay tor nu sorga Makuta no mel kun. Mel kay tor nu sorga Makuta no mel kun. MEL KAY TOR NU SORGA MAKUTA NO MEL KUN! The circle in the dirt began to glow green and the spirits of the dead swirled around him. Wailing such terrible things, dead Okotans reliving their final painful hours, cries that contained a lifetime of sorrow. Kulta ignored them and continued his chant. The wind billowed and the ground shook until bones and armour slowly emerged from the grey soil. Kulta's voice began to grow hoarse, but he focused with all his might as the bones began to form a body: a figure with four arms. Kulta stopped his chanting and the wind died down and the ground settled back to stillness. He surveyed the revenant as the creature stood completely still. Slowly, it began to move its limbs and flex its fingers. With green bones and silver armour adorning its four arms, the creature cut an imposing figure. After a few moments surveying its body, the revenant spoke. "What... what happened? Where are they?" "My dear friend," said Kulta unctuously. "Welcome back to the world of the living." "I... was I dead?" asked the creature. "For thousands of years, I'd say. I am the Skull Grinder, your new master. You will be a lieutenant in my Skull Army." "Master? Skull Army? I don't have time for this. I have to find them!" "I was afraid of this," sighed Kulta, Reaching into his pack, Kulta pulled out a writhing silver Skull Spider. "I don't know who you were in your former life, Revenant, and quite frankly I don't care. I didn't bring you back to put your soul to rest, I need you to serve me." As he spoke, he idly plucked the legs off the now screeching Skull Spider. The revenant began to slowly back away, but Kulta was too quick for him. He jammed the legless Skull Spider on the creature's bony face and held it there firmly as it tried to fight him off. Soon the Skull Spider's will won out and the creature sank to the ground, kneeling before its new master. "Rise, Skull Slicer, lieutenant of the Skull Army." *** Darkness. Screaming. Who was I? Who am I looking for? How did I die? With the Skull Spider on his face, the world appeared dark and fractured to him. Visions of the ruined city flashed before returning to the darkness. He felt like a prisoner in his own body. Fleetingly, he would regain control before being pushed aside by the will of the arachnid affixed to his face. So there was nothing to do but to collect his thoughts. Another flash of vision, and he could see a hexagonal pattern of stone tiles. The arena... Of course, the Hammer Flush arena. He had loved the arena. It had once been all he had lived for. The excitement, the thrill; his heart was already racing thinking about it. Yes, it was all coming back to him. He had not lived here -- he had thrived! As the Skull Spider led his bones through the ruined stadium, he could see a plaque honouring past champions. "Yes, this was once me," he muttered, running a bony hand along the inscription. Clearing away the moss that had grown over, he could see a single word: Brelnar. "My... my name. I am Brelnar." It was as if a dam broke and he was hit by a deluge of memory. He could see himself nimbly leaping through the arena, hammer aloft, opponents on every side, and loving every moment of it. Flames shot past him and he used his hammer to vault up to the next level, only to come face to face with a steely-looking Earth Okotan. The Earth Okotan swung his hammer at Brelnar, but Brelnar was too quick for him. Leaping in the air at the right moment, he landed on his foe's hammer, grabbed onto his shoulder armour, and flipped him onto his back. "Shoulder armour is just going to slow you down, my friend," Brelnar laughed, resuming his climb to the top. It was not long before his hammer hit the lever at the top, signalling the end of the game. The crowd cheered, confetti rained through the stadium, and medals were handed out. It was then, with all eyes on him, that he had proposed to Yanua. "Yanua... my... my wife..." said the Skull Slicer, as a feeling of intense heartbreak tore him out of his reverie. Thousands of years had passed. Surely she was long gone by now. As the sorrow spread through his heart, so too did the Skull Spider's will spread through his mind once more, returning him to the darkness. More ruins. More cracked stones. More collapsed buildings. Suddenly something in the air. Something green. Toa... hissed the Skull Spider in his mind. The Skull Slicer's body leaped nimbly through the ruined city until it reached the entrance to the arena. He slipped into the shadows and waited. Soon enough, the green Toa flew in and proceeded to study the ruins. Get me that mask... growled an even darker voice within his mind. With all the skill of a well-trained athlete, the Skull Slicer shot out his chain and grabbed the mask right off the green Toa's face. The Toa fell to the ground, unconscious, while the Skull Slicer examined his prize. Even in the dark city, the golden mask seemed to shine. Clutching it in his lower hands, the Skull Slicer could feel its power radiating through him. His hands felt like fertile soil, the energy of the mask stimulating growth and life in them. His heart felt like a kite caught in the breeze. Brelnar's memories began to surface once more... Many years had passed since that championship, and as he gazed at his hearth he could see that he had won many more medals since then. Exotic jungle birds called from outside, as the smells of a berry pie baking in the oven filled the small cottage. A clatter at the door told him someone had arrived. He turned to see his wife, Yanua, and their... daughter. Yes, a daughter. "Father!" she cried, rushing to hug him. "Well if it isn't the birthday girl," laughed Brelnar, straightening out her mask. "Happy birthday, Tellena, my little rose." "Mother tells me you were at the blacksmith today. Any particular reason why?" she asked, with a heavy tone of feigned ignorance. "I'm sorry, dear," sighed Yanua. "I know you wanted it to be a surprise, but she's just so persistent!" "Well, now that the spider is off its net, you might as well open it," said Brelnar, gesturing to a large wrapped present in the sitting room. "I hope you like it. It's not everyday a young woman turns fourteen." Tellena tore open her gift and stared at it for a moment before laughing in disbelief. "Shoulder armour? What ever happened to mister 'shoulder armour slows you down'? How am I supposed to play Hammer Flush in this?" Brelnar laughed wryly. "Yes, yes. We all remember my first championship, but this is something a bit more serious, little rose. There are whispers that our two mask makers no longer see eye to eye. If things should turn sour, if it should come to war, I want this family to be protected. For you, little rose, a set of armour with spikes -- thorns to keep you safe. For Yanua, I had them restore your grandfather's armour from the Region of Fire. It's a bit big, but it should keep you safe." "Honestly, dear! Is all this really necessary?" said Yanua in exasperation. "I have no idea," said Brelnar grimly. "I just want this family to be safe. I want us to be together." With a painful jolt, the Skull Spider brought the Skull Slicer back to the present. While he had been holding the mask, the green Toa's allies had arrived. The Skull Spider cackled and directed his body into the arena. Use the mask... growled the darker voice again. The Skull Spider screamed in his mind, but the Skull Slicer suddenly felt the darker voice give him the strength to tear the creature off his face and put on the green Toa's golden mask. Energy surged through his body, and his mind was once again transported to the past. It was the tournament of champions. One Okotan from each region was competing for the glory of their homeland. An Earth Okotan ran right for him, before being trapped in the arena's shifting pillars. Suddenly the Skull Slicer found two of his arms pinned by a Stone Okotan's weapons while Okotans of Fire and Ice charged towards him. Knocking the Ice Okotan aside, he grabbed the Fire Okotan with his two remaining arms and... No, this isn't right... I only had two arms... A swift punch from the Ice Okotan knocked off his mask and he was jolted back to reality. These weren't Okotans at all, they were the Toa. Before he could react or call out to them, the big Toa with a hammer hit the lever, the floor vanished beneath him, and he fell. When the arena had been maintained, there was a pool of water at the bottom to catch any losing athletes, but that pool had long since dried up. The Skull Slicer fell through the darkness for some time before clattering to the ground, instantly shattering his leg bones. It was not long until the rest of the arena collapsed on top of him, years of disrepair and neglect had taken their toll. He found himself covered in rubble, unable to move, and yet still alive. He did not hunger, he did not breathe. He could not tell how long it had been since the Skull Grinder had resurrected him, but he did not recall having a meal. Perhaps he was unable to die. Perhaps he was condemned to this existence until the end of time. But what of his wife and daughter? What had become of them? He thought back to his last memory, of Tellena's birthday. Why had he thought of that day when he had put the mask on? Had the mask been trying to show him something? It just ended with his daughter opening the shoulder armour he had gotten her. What ever happened to mister 'shoulder armour slows you down'? The words echoed through his mind. I've never worn shoulder armour, he realized. Then the rest of the memory poured into his mind. It was that same day. For her birthday, Tellena had requested that they go watch the rookie league play at the arena, hoping that she might get to meet one of the coaches to improve her chances in the tryouts next year. It was as they were watching the game that the cataclysm struck. A huge shockwave of energy from the north swept through the city, knocking down trees and buildings and causing all sorts of environmental disasters. Rivers flooded, fires raged, and blizzards whipped across the land despite the summer weather. An earthquake rocked the foundations of the arena and large pieces of the ceiling began falling. "What's happening, father?" cried Tellena. "It's the mask makers! It has to be!" Brelnar shouted back, ushering his family through the bleachers as chaos rained down upon them. With a loud snap, the floor gave way beneath Tellena and Yanua, sending them falling two storeys to the ground. Seeing the roof above them about to collapse, Brelnar dove after them, but it was no use. The large slab of stone landed on the family, sealing all three in their grave. So these arms.... it's them. Yanua, Tellena... If the Skull Slicer had been able to cry, he surely would have. This was where his memories came from. This was what he was searching for. This was why he was clinging to his bones. And now that he had found them, he could finally let go.
  7. The Great Hunt Introduction: My entry re-imagines the second year of G2. In this iteration, there are 3 Great Masks: the Mask of Duty, the Mask of Unity, and the Mask of Destiny. At the start of the series, Makuta used the Mask of Destiny to rewrite the cosmic order. The first year focuses on the Mask of Duty. Matorans use it to awaken the Toa to Makuta's plot. This year centers on the Mask of Unity. More on that below. The third year concludes with the Mask of Destiny and which fate Okoto and its inhabitants choose for themselves. Cast: Elemental Creatures: Like the 2016 sets, there are six animals linked to the elements. Creature of Stone - Nui Jaga, the scorpion Creature of Water – Takea, hammerhead shark Creature of Fire – Kaa, the lava hawk Creature of Earth – Gravlok, the cave bear Creature of Air – Gukko, the jungle bird Creature of Ice – Kane-Ra, the snow ox Wardens: Matoran chosen by the Spirit of the Wild to defend her creatures; an updated version of the Rahaga. Kiva the Stonewarden – A cowboy; preferring the open range. Nixie the Seawarden – A priest; she listens for the movement of the Great Spirits Agni the Flamewarden – A warrior; if she can't solve a problem by hitting it, she isn't hitting it hard enough. Tehutti the Earthwarden – An inventor in a society that values physical strength. Mistral the Skywarden – A hunter; this is a source of internal conflict. Ehyre the Snowwarden – A hermit who must now work with others. Hunters: The hunters follow Umarak, the Huntmaster. Arid – A Skull Hunter; serves Umarak but may have another agenda. Tempest – A pirate; who doesn't mind hunting if the pay is good. Skorch – A bounty hunter with a high resistance to fire and heat. Onyx the Claw – A grappler constantly looking to test his strength. Mistral – She hunts anything that flies. Snowstalker & Klyma – Snowstalker comes from a cat-like race called the Muaka. Klyma, a female matoran, who is Snowstalker's translator and valet. Titans: Umarak, Master of the Hunt – He want to hunt the ultimate game, a Great Spirit. Rahaga, Great Spirit of the Wild – A celestial being who watches over the wilds of Okoto. The Story A quick prologue shows Umarak and Arid, the Skull Hunter, exploring the ruins of a jungle temple. They discover a wall carving showing six animals. This grabs Umarak's attention, but the real prize is found by Arid. It is the Golden Mask of Unity. Umarak retrieves it and promises to put it to good use. He uses the Mask to merge shadow with the plants overgrowing in the temple, creating these wicked looking shadowthorns. Arid finally speaks saying the Toa won't know what hit them. Act 1: The Call of the Wild The story proper begins in the jungles of Okoto. The creature of Air, Gukko, lands for a drink. The jungle grows quiet. Gukko picks up on this, but before she can flee is his with a shadowthorn arrow. Gukko bellows in pain but flies off. In the underbrush, Mistral watches where the bird flies and sink back into the shadows. Elsewhere in the jungle, Lewa is flying high on patrol. Without warning, his air power gives out and he tumbles out of the sky. Lewa doesn't know what happened, but knows someone who might: Elder Matau. He starts walking toward the Leaf village of Le-Koro as the sky grows ominously darker. Mistral returns to camp; a dark, thorny hollow in the middle of the Temple ruins. A group of unsavory types glare at her return. She ignore them reporting directly to Umarak. She describes her hunt of the Gukko bird and the effect of the shadowthorns. Umarak looks pleased and snaps off more thorns to hand out to the other hunters. Each hunter is assigned a bounty. Arid will hunt the nimble Nui Jaga in the deserts. Tempest will hunt the swift Takea in the seas surrounding Okoto. Onyx will hunt the mighty Graalok in the caverns. Skorch must retrieve the fiery Kaa from the lava fields. And Snowstalker must capture the formidable Kane Ra in the snowy drifts of the mountains. Each creature must be captured alive. Umarak pointedly stares at Skorch. Skorch smirks but agrees to the terms. Umarak has one more mission for Mistral. She must finish her hunt and bring in Gukko. She obeys and heads out like all the hunters. In the jungle, Gukko crashes to the ground. Her wing is black and completely useless. She bellows a long, pitiable cry. A cry heard by Rahaga, the Spirit of the Wild. Rahaga responds with a call of her own, the Call of the Wild. The call is only heard by a chosen few. In Ga-Koro, Nixie hears the call and jumps into the sea. On the sand-swept plains of Po-wahi, Kiva hears the call, but shakes it off continuing to tend his herd. On the slopes of Mount Ihu, Ehyre hears the call and changes direction in his solitary trek. In the caverns of Onu-koro, Tehutti hears the call and starts building. And in the village of Ta-Koro, Agni hears the call and runs to Elder Vakama. Vakama doesn't know about the Call, but knows a matoran who might. Vakama takes her and Toa Tahu to see Norik. Norik is the village's vet. He can treat matorans in a pinch, but specializes in wildlife. When he hears Agni's account, Norik recognizes the Call of the Wild. He explains just as Mata Nui watches over the people of Okoto, Rahaga looks after its creatures. If she is calling, it means the Wilds are in danger. Norik suggests Agni find the Creature of Fire, Kaa. Together, they might locate the trouble. Tahu offers to help and together, they begin the search. Back in the jungle, Mistral shakes off the Call of the Wild to focus on her hunt. She's tracked Gukko and closes in. When Mistral spots her prey, she is shocked by how much the corruption has spread. She looks at the shadowthorns with disgust and throws them to the ground. She nets the bird and hauls it away. Above, the darkening skies breaking into a furious storm. Act 2: The Thrill of the Hunt The storm blows Lewa off course. He is thrown into Mistral and Gukko. There is a brief exchange and Lewa quickly puts together, Mistral is a hunter and the bird needs help. They fight over Gukko. From the outset, Mistral's heart isn't in it. After a brief skirmish, she surrenders the creature of Air. She extracts a promise from Lewa to make sure the bird gets treated. Mistral retreats and Lewa sees to the Gukko bird. Immediately, the howling storm abates. Lewa is so focused on the bird he doesn't make the connection. He takes the bird back to Le-koro. In the lava fields, Agni and Tahu search for Kaa. Tahu is confused about the Spirit of the Wild. Why ask a bunch of animals for help when there are heroes like the Toa? Agni has no answers, but wonders aloud maybe animals see or do things Toa can not. They find a netted lava hawk with the hunter Skorch closing in with a shadowthorn dagger. Toa and Warden jump into action. Tahu takes on Skorch while Agni slips around and free the lava hawk. Skorch holds his ground against Tahu. He sees Agni about to free his quarry and he throws his dagger at her. Tahu tackles Agni saving her, but the dagger hits its true mark, Kaa. The lava field erupts as the fire bird succumbs to the poison. Tahu tries using his elemental powers to tamp down the inferno to no effect. The growing inferno threatens the village of Ta-koro. Tahu is split; save the village or save the Creature of Fire. Tahu chooses the village. He rushes to warn everyone leaving Skorch to slip away with his prize. A powerless Tahu manages to evacuate the village. By the time he returns to the lava fields, Skorch is gone. Kaa is gone, but curiously Agni is also gone. This scenario is repeated across Okoto. Toa and Warden search for their elemental creature only for the hunter to be a step or two ahead of them. When the creature is captured, the elements are thrown out of balance. The Toa's elemental powers are gone. This allows the hunter to escape with their quarry. Mistral returns to camp. She sees her fellow hunters have been successful. Three elemental creatures have already been caught and caged. Umarak is furious she returned empty-handed. Mistral tries to ask about the shadowthorns, but Umarak cuts her off. He orders her back out to retrieve her bounty. She leaves but doesn't go far. Her hunting skills easily pick up a trail. She follows it and finds Agni. There is a brief fight, but it is soon made clear they aren't enemies. Mistral has decided to break with Umarak. Agni shows her why that's a smart call. Another hunter brings in his catch. Umarak is pleased and then breaks out the Mask of Unity and fuses hunters and creature together. Agni surmises something similar happened to the other hunters. The two are found out and the alarm is raised. Umarak sicks his hybrids on the intruders. Agni and Mistral run for their lives, but Agni realizes they will be overtaken. She tells Mistral to find the Toa, then turns around and jumps into the pack of hybrids. Doesn't look back, as Agni is taken down and dragged off to Umarak. Mistral escapes. Act 3: The Great Hunt By now, Okoto is getting battered by the elemental storm. Toa and Wardens brave the treacherous climate to reach Le-Koro. Air is the only element that hasn't turned on them. In Le-Koro, Gukko's condition has stabilized thanks to the matoran animal tender, Iruini. The heroes ponder their next move when Mistral enters their midst. She found them through her connection with Gukko. This is an experience the other wardens recognize. The Toa are doubtful, but when Gukko accepts her, the wardens give her the benefit of the doubt. She gives the heroes the lowdown on Umarak, Agni, and what he has done with the other creatures using the Mask of Unity. They don't have to imagine what these hybrids look like as they attack Le-Koro. The Toa rush to defend the town, but their loss of powers, the elements going wild and the hybrids ferocity put them on the defensive. The Toa get beat down, but Wardens Tehutti and Kiva join in. Unfortunately, it is all a ruse. Two hybrids break in the hut and kidnap Mistral and Gukko. The hybrids return to the temple with their captives. Umarak is pleased. He doesn't reveal his plan, but a captured Agni does. She pieced it together from the reliefs surrounding the temple and her link with Kaa. Umarak wants to summon Rahaga and needs the creatures to do it. Umarak uses the Mask of Unity on Agni and Gukko, but the fusion doesn't take. Umarak moves on to Mistral and fuses here with the bird. This time the fusion works. Mistral and Gukko are connected so the blending works. The elemental storm intensifies as Air loses its balance. But Umarak doesn't care. He wants the hybrids to summon Rahaga. At first they balk, but Umarak threatens to destroy the mask and they'll be permanently fused as hybrids. This convinces most of the hybrids. Mistral still balks. Umarak causally threatens Agni. Mistral, feeling indebted to Agni, complies. Kiva and Ehyre, both trackers, find the hybrid's trail and follow it back to Umarak. They reach the temple just as the summoning ritual is complete. Rahaga appears and Umarak begins the greatest hunt. Not wanting interruptions, he sicks the hybrids on the heroes. Round two begins much like the first one with the Toa getting knocked around. The Toa use their mask powers but it slows down the hybrids not stop them. Tahu busts Agni out of captivity. She grabs the Mask of Unity and orders the Toa and Wardens deeper into the temple. The Toa are puzzled, but obey. The lure the hybrids into the central chamber and Agni uses the Mask of Unity to separate the hybrids into creature and hunter. One by one, the hybrids are split the last being Mistral. Mistral asks to hold off. They need to save Rahaga and she can move faster in this form. With the creatures free, the elemental regain their balance. The Toa start regaining their powers. The Hunter know when they've been beat and sensible surrender. While the Toa take care of them, the Wardens mount their creatures and ride to the rescue of Rahaga. In the jungle, Umarak enjoys the hunt. Rahaga is powerful, but Umarak has hunted big game before. The shadowthorns put Rahaga on the defensive. Umarak prepares for the killing blow. He notches a shadowthorn arrow and fires. The show is blocked by Mistral. Mistral attacks distracting Umarak for only a moment. He tries again, but this time stopped by Agni and Kaa. Soon the other Wardens and creatures arrive to protect the Spirit of the Wild and Umarak realizes he's down to his last arrow. Umarak flees, but the Wardens don't let him off that easily. They hunt him now. He finds himself trapped with Takea in the water, Kaa and Gukko in the skies Kane Ra, Nui Jaga and Gravlok covering every escape. Rahaga wants to tear out his throat, but the Wardens argue mercy. Rahaga instead marks him. Now every creature great and small knows to attack him. It starts with a swarm of flies but soon larger animals join in the hunt. Umarak flees into the jungle as the jungle screams and howls at the ex-hunter. The Toa arrive as Rahaga thanks the wardens and her creatures. Before she departs, Rahaga has some encouraging words for the Toa. She advises them to learn from the Wardens. They won't defeat Makuta without Unity. Rahaga vanishes after that. With the threat managed, Agni separates Mistral and Gukko. She hands the Mask over to the Toa, but they decide it is in better hands with the Wardens. Finally, they come to the Hunter only to find Arid, the Skull Hunter, has vanished. The other captives say he melted into the shadows and disappeared. The wardens pass judgment on the remaining hunters. The more honorable ones like Snowstalker and Onyx are exiled. Tempest and Skorch will face trial. Mistral is ready to face trial alongside her fellow hunters. But the Toa have a different punishment in mind. She is going to restore this Temple, making it up to the Wilds she imperiled. The wardens agree to help her. Another team of heroes has begun. An epilogue has the Toa discussing the Wardens and their latest adventure. The others are excited to have fellow heroes in the fight, but Gali is worried. Arid was clearly a minion of Makuta and it isn't a stretch to think Makuta orchestrated the peril. He chose an indirect route and failed. Next time it will be more direct. The Toa agree they must prepare for Makuta's next attack. The End
  8. In the time before time, long before the fall of the Mask Makers and the coming of the Toa, the mythical island of Okoto was beset by a foe the island would rue for millennia. Fate – or destiny – would have it that the events of a distant past would shape an uncertain future. Like so many other great legends, this one begins on a beach. - Of Druids and Shadow Poaruu was spending his afternoon with the one task he found no enjoyment in – fishing. As a cook, it was a necessary part of his duty to the village, but one he despised nonetheless. “How could anyone find this to be relaxing?” – He thought. He’s hardly collected enough fish for the evening’s feast, which was to mark the Rite of Initiation for the new elder. Nothing as fancy as the Rite of Empowerment of a new Protector for the whole region, but a marked day still. Poaruu was snapped out of his worries about running out of time by a sight he hasn’t seen in months. A gargantuan body burst from the water, far out at sea. He recognized it instantly: Akida, primal aspect of Water. She often swam around the whole island, popping up off the shores of each region. However today, instead of a majestic flip, the body of the great whale slapped back into the water unnaturally. Then he heard it – cries of agony. Wading into the water as far as he dared, he noted something strange about the creature, but couldn’t pin it down. The waves were carrying her ashore. His mind raced. “We need the Druid!” – He thought and turned to run into the village. By the time he got back, the aspect was already washed up. Now, he could see what seemed so peculiar from afar, and up close, it was terrifying. Jagged weapons, the likes of which he has never seen, jutted from the body of the mighty beast. The rustle of leaves – there were no trees in the region of Stone – indicated help has arrived. For a moment, seemingly out of nowhere, a handful of plants sprouted nearby and a tall figure arose. He towered far above Poaruu, clad in brown robes. Strong legs carried the barked body licked with a touch of green here and there. But the most notable feature of the newcomer were his antlers, glorious and intimidating. “Druid Umarak, you are here!” – He called out. The druid rushed to Akida, and began stroking her face. “Quickly, remove those foul things!” – He commanded Poaruu, pointing at the foreign weapons. Akida was heaving, but other noises escaped her mouth as well. After Poaruu, with much difficulty, took out the pair of what now turned out to be spears, Umarak moved to the wounds and held out his hands. His palms began to glow green, and the wounds began to seal right before Poaruu’s eyes. Soon, Akida was breathing easier. “Who could have done this?” – The cook asked, but the druid hushed him. Seemingly Umarak was listening to Akida. “Of course, the Druid is the only one who understands the great Aspects”. Finally, Umarak turned to Poaruu with much concern in his eyes. “I must meet the protectors at once.” – He said. “What is wrong?” – The cook asked. Umarak’s response filled him with a new kind of fear – the fear of the uncertain. “Those who did this came from beyond the sea.” Soon, the Druid had gathered the protectors and brought them to Poaruu’s village. With the help of his magics, Umarak could bring the leaders of Okotoan society with him across great distances with great haste, and all were assembled by eve. “Are you sure of what the aspect said to you?” – Taito, surprisingly hot-headed for one hailing from the region of Ice, demanded of him at the onset of the council. “You are not one to question my words, nor that of the Aspect.” – His response was stern. “I have healed her wounds by then, pain could not have compelled her.” The protectors were uneasy, faced with an issue no literature nor legend has prepared them for. “How is this even possible? How could something come from beyond the sea?” – The protector of Fire pleaded. “Never have we sailed beyond eyesight of Okoto. It may be so that other islands exist as well.” – The protector of Water added. “Druid, what did Akida tell you of these attackers?” – Ihan, protector of the Jungle turned to Umarak. “Only things that could trouble us further. They sail upon ships of metal, rougher and harder than with what the Mask Makers work. They are as tall as I. Beyond this, she merely repeated a single word I do not recognize: Kulta.” – He said. “Kulta? A name perhaps?” – Ihan asked back. “If so, it will go down in history as a hated one. The meeting was interrupted by the sound of a guard’s horn, after which a winded villager burst into the hut. “Protectors! Druid! Ships are approaching, hundreds! They are not of any region we know!” – He spat between gasps. Poaruu was so preoccupied with the events earlier that day that he could barely focus on his cooking. Umarak’s words haunted him, and he couldn’t but shake the curiosity as to what went on behind the closed doors of the emergency council. “I should be in there. I saw her!” – He thought, annoyed. Commotion outside tore him from his thoughts. As he stepped outside, he was almost knocked over by a trio of guards rushing towards the shore. “It can’t be Skull Spiders, the annual culling was not a fortnight ago… and they’re running to the shore!” – He started after them. Nearing the beach, he opted to scale one of the village walls for a better vantage point, and the vista that played out before him was unlike anything he ever saw. Countless ships were moments away from making landfall, and all the guards were lined up on the beach. The Druid and the Protectors were among them. Soon, the first ship – large, sporting black sails and an oversized ram on its stem. Off the railings jumped a large, albeit spindly figure. Its hardened leathery skin was covered by rough armor, its face obscured by a mask most frightening, crowned with two horns jutting forward. He walked towards the assembled guards, followed by many similar beings – among them devilish creatures led on chains, not unlike the scorpions of Poaruu’s home region. Umarak started ahead to meet the leader of the invaders head on. “Who are you to encroach upon our peaceful lands, to hurt one of our revered aspects?” – He shouted. The being walked uncomfortably close to the Druid, staring him in the eye. “Kulta.” – He said, as if to mock Umarak. “And what is it you are here for?” – The druid did not flinch. “Conquest.” Next, everything happened too fast. Before Poaruu knew what happened, the horde of invaders charged the guards. Umarak grappled with Kulta before disappearing in a puff of leaves and spiriting away the gathered protectors as well. The attackers tore through the guards within moments, and smoke had already filled the night sky. He rushed to street level, around him screams and shouting. He tried running in the opposite direction, but the invaders were already spread out in the village. The stench of death had begun to spread, and turning a corner Poaruu was met with a sight so gruesome as to prompt him to turn around. Against his better judgement, instinct drove him to the shore where he found Akida not half a day ago. Only the imprint of the glorious being was left in the sand. He waded into the waves once more, not knowing what to do, when a head popped up above the surface nearby. It was smaller – about half the size of what it was before – but could not be mistaken: Akida was here. She emitted a series of chirping sounds and sped towards Poaruu. Passing him and turning back, she swam up right next to him and offered a flipper. He understood. Grabbing it, he glanced back at his village one last time, and she began to swim. --- “I, Umarak, Druid of Okoto, am about to do something I swore to forever avoid. Five years ago, the warlord Kulta and his horde of Titans invaded the region of Stone. Since then, they have managed to poison our revered Aspects, causing them to weaken to a state my powers cannot heal. Alone, they are no longer powerful. In my possession is an ancient Mask of Power that I had hoped to keep locked away for eternity, but it seems that in our darkest hour, sin is our only salvation.”– The Final Testament of the Druid Poaruu was keeping watch on the battlements of the City of the Mask Makers. The city was the last bastion of Okotoan resistance save for a few small pockets scattered in the remote regions of the island. He had managed to survive five years of bloodshed. It was five years ago that he cooked his last true meal, and ever since, he was forced to fight. All of the protectors have perished with no clear line of succession. The only battles which do not end in defeat are those where the Druid is present, however the Titans attack on many fronts. Umarak has organised the few survivors into a half-decent army, but they are far outmatched and outnumbered by the trained murderers they face. Even after all this time, they learned very little of them – they know now that their world, a globe, is home to several islands. Kulta and his horde have been traveling from island to island, fighting the locals each time. His people have fashioned armor from the bones of their victims as a fear tactic, even using the corpses of Skull Spiders as masks. Umarak had recently returned to the City, warning the defenders that Kulta was preparing for a final assault to complete his “glorious victory”. “There has been enough killing.” – He said. “I will permit this no longer.” The defenders were on edge ever since, not understanding. “If he could put an end to this, why hasn’t he before?” – Many asked. Ever since, he had cradled an odd object, obscured by cloth. Poaruu sensed a slight shake. It began to grow stronger and rhythmic. “They’re here.” – He thought with dread. From between the ridges of the mountains high flowed, like a sick river, the horde. Their marching shook the earth, chanting smuggled fear into hearts thought to be steeled. They were near the walls when Umarak opened the Gate of the Anvil and strode out alone. “If you come to offer surrender, you waste your breath, Druid.” – Kulta spat the last word mockingly. “We come only for death.” – He finished. “If it is death that you invoke, death is what you shall receive!” – Umarak shouted. He removed the cloth and held high in the air a Mask of Power, much unlike the Mask of Healing he wore now. It was uniform black, seemingly swallowing all light, and yet jagged with sinister features. “The Mask of Death. The forbidden mask.” – He thought. “I wish I needn’t bear this burden.” – He removed his own and replaced it with the black mask. He immediately felt weak and nauseated, his muscles gave way and he collapsed. Kulta began to laugh a terrifying laugh, and his soldiers joined in. But soon the cackle had gone on too long, and the other Titans fell silent in confusion. Kulta continued his hysterical cacophony, then staggered. His laugh faltered, and almost immediately was replaced by a shrill scream. Before the eyes of Poaruu and the other defenders, their most hated enemy fell to his knees as his flesh burned away seemingly on its own. Soon, the confused Titans followed suit, their screams tearing up the sky itself as they were seared away where they stood. Nought but their bones remained moments later, collapsed in distorted positions. Umarak didn’t rise for many minutes. His body was smoking slightly, and his armor hissed as rain began to fall upon it. He rose to a seated position and remained like that even longer. When he opened his eyes, he was startled even though he knew the price of using the mask. Red spike sprouted from his arms, the his bark-like skin charred to black, green flesh turned sickly. He looked down into the puddle that had accumulated before him – the mask had cracked from the strain of being used on so many opponents. Dark power leaked from its surface, clouding the vision of the Druid – former Druid. “Even if the vows are broken and the mask used, it may only happen once. After death is unleashed, there remains only… shadow.” – He recited the teachings. Soon, the behavioral changes will manifest, then he will be drawn to the dark corners of the world. The gates of the city were opened, and the defenders slowly walked out. Among them was the elder they had all sworn to protect – the old Mask Maker. Umarak approached the procession in spite of the now fearful looks he received. “What have you done, Druid?” – The Mask Maker’s voice was also tainted by fear. “I know the weight of my actions and accept them. I will retreat into exile. The people of Okoto must persevere without a Druid.” – He said. “I am old, Umarak – what will we do come another crisis? The line of the Protectors has been broken, I am near the dusk of my life and even you leave us now?” – He pleaded. “Any who were strong enough to survive this war are worthy of the title of protector. As for your successor… look to the region of Ice. I discovered the heir of the Anvil long ago, he is safe. Ekimu is his name, you must search for him and bring him to the city.” – Umarak replied. “What of the aspects?” – The elder persisted. “They are diminished and in hiding until… until the coming of the six.” – The Druid hushed his voice. The Mask Maker had no more questions, so Umarak looked at the gathered Okotoans one last time, then left. Poaruu was among those who saw him disappear into the woods. “Where is he going?” – He asked aloud. “Into shadow…” – The Mask Maker replied solemnly. --- Strong claws gripped the trunk of the tree surely. An armored arm kept the body upright, half-hanging while the other shielded eyes from the hated glare of the sun. He dropped to the ground, and headed to the river. Passing by a tree with marks left by smaller claws, he walked down to the stream. The sand had been disturbed recently. Something drank here. “Ah, yes…” A nibbled fruit lay nearby. He strode over, picked it up and lifted it to his face. The hunter had caught a scent.
  9. Searching for Ekimu's tomb, the Toa journey deep beneath the City of the Mask Makers. There they wind through ancient catacombs, battling Skull Scorpios at every turn. In time they push their way—or are they themselves pushed?—into a vast chamber. In its center swirls a vortex of debris, all that remains of the vanquished Lord of the Skull Spiders. In the darkness, Onua can make out a lone figure. Have the Toa found their quarry at last? "Ekimu!" he calls. "We are here to rescue you!" The six gasp as an islander steps out of the shadows… Flickr Here is my entry to The Legend Continues contest! Participants create entries reflecting things they would have liked to see in G2 Bionicle. I recreated the MNOG confrontation with Makuta in the style of the 2015 animations. Please let me know what you think!

    Exo-Toa

Hi all, Here's my shoddy, last-minute entry to The Legend Continues. It's my take on a G2 Exo-Toa automaton. I can't figure out how to upload images to BZPower using anything normal like Flickr or Imgur, so you'll have to follow one of these links. http://imgur.com/ZnXJeEl https://flic.kr/p/Vw37tW Best, -Waz
  11. Vahki were one of my favorite villains in G1, so I figured I'd give one of them a makeover. Not gonna lie, I was partially inspired by the Doom aesthetic for this one, hence the color choice and exhaust thingies on the chest. Been wanting to use those plates for a long time now, and a forge-dwelling robot seemed fitting. Tried something new with this one by deliberately staying away from smooth shells for the first time in a while, since I wanted to emphasize the "function over form" thing the Vahki had going on. Obligatory spider function: That's it from me, don't forget to support our boys in blue (well, red) and vote in the contest poll!

His appearance at first sight caused unrest among people of Okoto. His skeletal arm and green glow unwantingly reminded us of Kulta and his fellow skeletal friends. Though he assured us he has never heard of Kulta, his story to explain the arm didn't make us feel any better. Matoro is something that on his island call a 'spirit touched' able to see both the world of the living and the dead. He can talk to those who has long passed away, even able to step out of his body to traverse the spirit realm but such ability comes at a price. The more he uses it the more his body decays and in the end forever will he be part of the world of the dead.* Well, this one has been on hiatus for far too long, not to mention it was supposed to have ribs on the decaying side, but that didn't work out in the end, same with the chest, it was supposed to be with the hockey chest piece but that just didn't work out with the CCBS torso shell. All in all I'm very satisfied with the out come, the torso's build got pretty good in my opinion, so many small parts merged into one big component. This MOC is mostly made out of left overs from the Makuta combiner and the parts of the BZP raffle Jango Fett I won way back (along with another Hero Pack) among other things. 13. Hi, guys! I have a question that may make you wondering: What does the Mask of Control from G2 do specifically? We know what the Mask did in the story: it can be controlled by Makuta, Makuta used it to mutate and mind-controlled Umarak when Umarak is wearing it, Umarak used the mask to combine the Shadow Traps and elements from Okoto into the Elemental Beasts and control them, and perhaps summoning them. Plus, we know about what the other Legendary Masks of Power can do, but the Mask of Control is something to be curious about. Also, when Umarak became the Destroyer, he suggested to Makuta that he would lead the Elemental Beasts to bring destruction on Okoto, but Makuta objected it and told Umarak to do a different task. Makuta may control Umarak's mind, but Umarak has his own opinions to please his master, even though that he has to do what Makuta say. According to BS01, it can mind-control people and has mind-bending powers. What does "mind-bending" mean, too? It seems to be G2's own Mask of Mind Control (from G1, Onewa's mask). Makuta once wore the Mask, but never used to mind-control people or mutate himself. What was the purpose of the mask for Okoto, too? In other words, why did Makuta wear it before he made the Mask of Ultimate Power? Was it meant prevent Okotoans from being mentally corrupted or thinking to cause harm on Okoto? What else can the mask do? Control the elements like the Toa? What do you guys think about this? I think of the Mask of Control as the most mysterious of all the Masks of Power in G2 for what it can do.
  14. Hi, guys! We all know that Makuta Teridax from G1 and Makuta from G2, everybody's favorite Bionicle villain and mine, too, are like different versions of each other from alternate universes. Each of them is the main antagonist of one of the generations overall. Both are powerful and demonic warriors who have shadow powers and can shape-shift. They even turn into Titan-sized, or Hulk-sized forms, which are their traditional and well-known forms. They are masterminds who created complex plans that lead to conquest and destruction. They led armies of other evil-hearted villains. They always kill some people along the way. All of these qualities make them very dangerous, crazy, and cruel. We always see the Makuta's fight against Toa and their allies. Some of their allies are who the Makuta's call their "brothers" who they put into endless slumbers for a thousand of years. The Makuta's proved to be most difficult foes that the heroes have faced, are archenemies of the heroes, too. The Makuta's are like Bionicle's own Thanos from Marvel, Darkseid from DC Comics, Aku from Samurai Jack, Him from The Powerpuff Girls, the Overlord and Garmadon from Ninjago, President Business from The Lego Movie in 2014, Megatron from Transfomers, and Jafar from Disney's Aladdin movie in 1992 (happy 25th anniversary to it). I would consider Makuta Teridax to be one of the greatest villains in history (Makuta G2 - well, not so much). They have been through many battles through the storylines, and they include: 1. 2001 - Toa Mata vs. Makuta Teridax in his vortex form 2. Late 2003 - Takanuva vs. Teridax in his shadow Titan form 3. 2004 - Toa Metru (mainly Vakama) vs. Teridax in his winged Titan form 4. 2007 - the Barraki vs. Teridax as Maxilos 5. 2010 - Mata Nui and his forces vs. Teridax, controlling the Great Spirit Robot, and his forces 6. 2016 - Toa Uniters vs Makuta G2 If you have other things and the Makuta's being involved in battles in mind, go ahead to say it. Anyway, the point in this topic is that to ask you this: What is your favorite Makuta-Teridax-or Makuta-G2-involved battle? My question is inspired by the time I watched YouTube videos about boss battles of a certain boss from some games, like Lego Joker from Lego's TT Games, Bowser and each individual Koopaling (each of these guys have their own video) from Mario, and King K. Rool from Donkey Kong. There are so many Makuta Teridax/Makuta G2 fights that I compare them to these videos. You see what I mean? So, as I said, what is your favorite Makuta Teridax/Makuta G2 battle? For me, mine is the 2001, late 2003, 2004, and 2010 battles.
  15. Hi, guys! Today is the first anniversary of Bionicle's Netflix show, Bionicle: The Journey to One! It was released on March 4, 2016 (Same age as a Disney movie called Zootopia, which coincidentally is about animals, like the show). The show is the first TV show that Bionicle ever had (though I don't like it being exclusive in Netflix because I don't like wasting my money for it. Why did it happen this way? Why couldn't it be in a TV channel, like Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon)? ). The show has four 22-minute main episodes, plus a shorter prologue. The show takes place in the G2 universe, as the Toa Masters became Toa Uniters to find the Elemental Creatures and the Golden Masks of Unity, so they can find the Mask of Control. However, Umarak, the main-ish antagonist in the first three main episodes and the 2016 storyline, and his Shadow Traps are sent by Makuta, G2's main antagonist, to capture the Elemental Creatures and find the Mask for him. The Toa and Umarak race each other until Umarak got the mask and turned into Makuta's Destroyer. Makuta then sent Umarak to collect the lost pieces of the destroyed Mask of Ultimate Power and use them to open a portal that can help Makuta get out of the Shadow Realm. It's up to the Toa, along with their mentor named Ekimu the Mask Maker, go to stop and fight Umarak and Makuta. The show was well-liked by many people (heard that Netflix gave it three out of five stars). I watched and liked the show. It was good, but could've been better in terms of story. I liked the animation, which is 3-D (similar to Transformers: Robots in Disguise in 2015 and Iron Man: Armor Adventures, and 3-D is more adequate to our taste to Bionicle G2 than the 2015 Online Animations, which is 2-D). It's weird that it has 2-D-like bits (similar to Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra), but it's reminds me of the Mata Nui Online Games. I also like the action, accuracy to the 2016 sets, voice acting because it's better than the 2015 Online Animations (more voice actors than one, too. Awesome!), comedy, pacing until the fourth episode, and character development. It's very sad that the show ended in the same year it was released in, along with the G2 franchise itself, and I didn't like the rushing in the end of the G2 story in there, either. But, as I said, it is a good show. Not the best Lego TV show, but, still, a good show. I loved that Bionicle has a TV show for the first time. I thought it was a good way to celebrate Bionicle's 15th anniversary. If anyone likes this show, go celebrate! What's your favorite moment in there? For me, I liked the one where Pohatu learned that he has to Unite with Ketar on important occasions the hard way, Umarak the Destroyer going Hulk on the Toa, and Lewa being a comedy relief as he always does.
  16. Hi everyone, I have something fairly unusual for you all: an attempt at making the classic Toa Kaita from the new Uniter sets! Disclaimer time: The leg design for Wairuha was directly inspired by JakTheMad's Ultimate Wairuha on the BZPower Flickr Group. HOWEVER, this, along with the rest of Wairuha, has been reworked, redesigned, and customized to use only pieces from the Uniters and suit my personal style of building. While Akamai does use some similar techniques, he is even further removed from the original source (Not that you can tell ). None of this is meant to infringe on or take credit for JakTheMad's innovative design. If the similarities are here considered problematic, I have no issue with this topic being dragged to the pit by Botar. Link to Imgur Gallery (also features a frightened Umarak and a few possible Unity modes): https://imgur.com/a/wOvdQ I tried to incorporate as many features from the Uniters as possible; Both figures have a full waist swivel function and can unite with most of the creatures. The weapons can switch between two one-handed weapons and one two-handed weapon per figure. Akamai's weapon hilariously features Onua's six-shooter, Tahu's extending blade function, and Pohatu's wrecking ball in one goofy-looking gadget. Also, if anyone wants to build these guys, I'll be working on step-by-step instructions for them. Thanks for checking this out!
  17. Back in 2002 a very young boy started playing with a line of toys known as bionicle. That boy would someday become me. I feel there is no one person you can thank for this theme. So many people worked on it to make it what it was. And now that's it's gone (possibly forever), I feel the need to thank them. My childhood wasn't the easiest. However this theme was a light through all of it. It was something that always made me happy. No matter what it did. It was a thing that defined my taste in story. Ever since the days of viewing promos on mini discs the theme always left me awed to some degree or another. Even as a near adult I look at my old canisters and sets and think of a time long before now. Of different people, different places, a different me. In a lot of ways a happier time. And this theme was present throughout that time. It was always such a great feeling to get a new set and open it up, see how it all goes together. And those characters were genuinely inspiring to me. Some of the earliest heroic characters I can recall. So I would like to thank everyone involved in G1 for all of this. And I also thank the G2 team. We may have had different ideas on how to handle the theme but you were clearly doing your best with what you were given. You wanted the kids of today to grapple onto bionicle like we did. And although it may not have been a success your efforts will not be forgotten. Thank you for reading. Feel free to post whatever you like here.
  18. So, today come to me Mask of Time G2 from shapeaways (link), and I pointed it using Citadel Auric Armour Gold paint. You can see how I put G1 Vahi on G2 Vahi, but sadly they berley stay together, and even a little touch makes it fall off. Big gallery: http://imgur.com/a/NYlOX
  19. Hi BZP folks, I normally spend my time loitering around the TTV boards, but I've been working on a Bionicle G2 RPG system for a while and figured that I could share it here just in case you guys are interested. First off, a video trailer that I made for this project: The system is heavily based on 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons, but with a lot of tweaks and mechanics specific to Bionicle G2. The files for the Core Rulebook and Okoto Travelers' Guide: Core Rulebook: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7w4fdP3meUDYWhjc3BRWkg1NUU/view?usp=sharing Okoto Travelers' Guide: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7w4fdP3meUDUFlPZWQyNXM2Ykk/view?usp=sharing There's a lot to unpack in those two documents, since they contain all the rules for the entirety of the Legends of Okoto RPG system as it stands right now and most of the world lore. I haven't finished the creature list in the Travelers' Guide yet, though. The updated Travelers' Guide will be made available as soon as I've added everything that needs to be added into it, definitely sometime within the next two weeks. Also, even though I haven't added most of his stuff to the Travelers' Guide yet, special thanks to Nescent for letting us use his combiner MOCs to make up the creature list of Legends of Okoto. 20. Hi, guys! I know that 2016 is going to end today, so I would like to ask you guys a question: What is your best and worst moment in Bionicle G2 this year? I know that this year is cruddy because G2 is not so great and ended this year sadly, but it has some ups and downs. For me, here's my best and worst moments: Best: 1. Having a Bionicle TV show (The Journey to One) for the first time. 2. The Journey to One has much better character development than the Online Animations in 2015. The show also has more than one voice actor as well, and the show is 3D animated. 3. Elemental Creatures combining with the Toa and Umarak. 4. Artwork and a book filled with it. 5. The story had a more satisfying end than G1. 6. Ekimu the Mask Maker 2016 set. I love his trans-blue colors. 7. I love the sets' trans-colored pieces. 8. Umarak the Destroyer. 9. Makuta Contest. 10. Tahu's appearance in these crossover Lego Pirates videos. It was very funny and cool. Worst: 1. Bionicle ended again this year. ( (crying in tears)). Plus, the planned third year is cancelled, so G2 only had two years. 2. The fact the The Journey to One is a Netflix show. 3. It's just a series of four specials, as it is sort of like Hero Factory. It ended very short with a small amount of episodes. 4. Bionicle wasn't as good at most other Lego themes this year. 5. Bionicle's 15th anniversary never celebrated. When will Bionicle ever celebrate its anniversary? It was one of Lego's most successful and famous themes in history, and it should deserve to have its anniversary celebrated, but Lego didn't do it for some reason. So, there. What about you guys? Happy New Year!
  21. Now I'm pretty sure this topic reared its head in these forums, possibly even several times, but the search function didn't toss anything out and I'm also pretty sure all of those threads are beyond the necro threshold. So this is pretty simple: where in the Bionicle universe(s) would you live? I included G2's Okoto as well. While it wouldn't be my personal choice, I do see it being a possible selection for some fans. It is similar to Mata-Nui, true, however Okotoan architecture is pretty unique when compared to things in G1 so I see reason for it to be a legitimate choice. There are several more named islands in the GSR, however the poll only allows for 17 options. Feel free to write up why you chose what you chose, since this is supposed to be a discussion after all. For me, Metru Nui is the obvious choice. I've said as much on two occasions in two separate topics recently, as Metru Nui always fascinated me. The idea of a massive, technologically advanced city which is rooted in natural elements regardless (Po-Metru is a literal desert in spite of being part of a metropolis, Ga-Metru is beautiful with its lakes and lagunas) has always captivated my imagination. It was my favorite setting across all of G1 as well, precisely because of all the potential it had. That said, I was a tad disappointed when some years later, after reading up on official lore, that it is actually pretty small and only has about a thousand Matoran living in it (canonically, though others have mentioned how in LoMN, more are shown). In my headcanon, Metru-Nui will always remain the inconceivably massive sprawling sci-fi metropolis with countless millions of Matoran working, living, playing and resting among its skyscrapers. So which location would be your preferred home in the Bionicle universe?
  22. All we know that LEGO haven't developed a plot very much, and second generation of the BIONICLE is full of mysteries and unanswered questions. Everyone has their own headcanons, theories and thoughts about G2 plot. Though a theme was closed several months ago, I suggest to discuss it once and for all. Here are my thoughts about some unrevealed things:
  23. Hi, guys! We know that G2 existed and is a reboot, so I would like to ask you a question: what reboot does G2 remind you of? For me, Bionicle G2 reminds me of Transformers toy line reboots and The Amazing Spider-Man movies in 2012 and 2014. Transformers is similar to Bionicle because it is a toy line that rebooted with its own G2, which lasted shorter than G1, and the designs of the robotic characters (the robotic species that transform, including main ones, like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Megatron) look more epic and detailed than their versions from the previous generation. The Amazing Spider-Man movies are similar to Bionicle G2 because the movie series is a 2010's reboot of the original series in the 00's. It also lasted two years and two installments, which is much shorter than the original series. It was originally planned to last longer, but it got cancelled after having mixed reviews (That really broke my heart twice. ). The reused main characters look kind of different from their G1 versions as well. I made a list of other comparisons in this topic that I made: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/23229-bionicle-g2-and-the-amazing-spider-man-movies-are-alike/ . That is because I feel Bionicle G2 is more similar to The Amazing Spider-Man than the Transformers toy line reboots. I wonder if Lego took inspiration from TASM for how it was cancelled because Bionicle G2 and TASM are strangely similar? Perhaps Lego knew that Bionicle G2 has mixed reviews, so they took inspiration from TASM in order to make a better reboot (similar to Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War)? So, there. What reboots does Bionicle G2 remind you of?
  24. This is what I gathered form BS01: --The Vahi comes into existence. Since it is older than the stars, it has to come first. --At some point in the distant past, the elements themselves magically create the mysterious island of Okoto. --The elements are: (1) stone, (2) earth, (3) water, (4) fire, (5) jungle, (6) ice, (7) light, and (8) shadow. --In addition to the island, 7 creatures are created from stone, earth, water, fire, jungle, ice, and light to be the avatars of their respective elements. Shadow, in response, creates Umarak the Hunter to oppose and hunt the creatures. --The Temple of Time is either created from the elements as well, or the Okotoans build it as their first temple. The Mask of Time somehow then arrives at the Temple. --Okotoans either are also formed from the elements, or migrate from another location. --Okotoans build the Labyrinth of Control --The Capitol City is built. --The City of the Mask Makers is built. --The Skull Raiders invade the island from a different location. --The islanders live in harmony, along with the Mask Makers Makuta and Ekimu. So there are a few things I'm wondering about: 1. We know the Skull Army is not native to Okoto (presumably they sailed to the island from elsewhere). Does this mean there is a mainland on this planet inhabited by skeleton people? Why did they come to Okoto? How did they know about it? And, if they did know about beforehand, how is it that no one else has come to Okoto in its several thousand years of recored history? Ultimately, what were they hoping to get out of coming to Okoto? 2. How did the Okotoans get to Okoto? Were they created from the elements too? Did the Great Beings put them there? Did they sail to the island from another location? Who told them then that there would be a rich island in the middle of the ocean? 3. Also: are the Mask Makers just skilled Okotoans? Or are they a whole other race? Is that ever explained? Is Makuta an earth villager and Ekimu a water one? 4. What's with those 2 moons anyway? One thing I'll say I don't like so much about G2 is there's no Greg to ask.
  25. Based on what we saw of G2's run, what sort of Story and Sets do you think would have been in the "last" year of BIONICLE G2? Would the Uniters have carried over? Or would the Toa get another upgrade? Would it have been a 1/2 year, or a full year with 2 waves? Other than the Makuta, would there have been other Titans? Would Makuta have lived, bit the dust, or turned good (like Garmadon)?
