  1. There are some questions that I'm yet to have answers to in the Bionicle story. 1.What is the average lifespan of a matoran? (Would the matoran be considered the "children" of Bionicle?) 2.What would happen if Takunuva removed his mask? 3.What parts of the anatomy of an average Bionicle character be living or machanical? Do they have living brains or A.I. ?
  2. One thing I've recently begun thinking of as strange is the time span of the Matoran Universe. The history of the Matoran Universe is 100,000 years, which is approximately the same length of time as homo Sapiens have existed. Then, 1,001 in-universe years ago, Teridax takes over, and 1 year ago, the Takanuva defeats Teridax, the Ignika is found, Mata Nui is awakened, Teridax takes over, and the Matoran Universe is destroyed. This recently hasn't quite seemed right to me. My theory is that humans work on a base 10 system, while Matoran culture is based off of the number 6. 105=100,000. 65=7,776. If the Matoran Universe worked on a base 6 system, there would only be 7,776 years of history, approximately to the beginning of human civilization. I think it makes much more sense that the Matoran Universe history happens over the course of civilized human history, rather than since homo Sapiens first evolved, and that the number system was "lost in translation" for lack of a better term. Events that took place of X number of days, or 1 year, or small numbered timelines would likely stay the same. This could also be carried over to other aspects of the history, such as populations or distances.
  3. Hello one and all once again! Since it's become apparent that I can't exactly do multiple topics on artwork I've decided to submit any new pieces of Bionicle (or other) art here. And to start it off I give you the introduction to the gallery: Adata, Matoran of Lightning Little Adata is a silver-tongued sweet-talker who runs Heva Nui's local entertainment club. Her business extends from onstage performances of incredible talent to keep patrons happy during their stay. She is very observant and has a firm belief in "striking like lighting" when the opportunity comes, making her a perceptive, clever, and resourceful little matoran who clearly doesn't mind bossing people twice her size around. Despite her status as a matoran, she is a businesswoman; she does her job like a professional. She serves as the Toa Heva's source of under-the-table information via Tsujii, who frequents her little club. She carries a specially-carved walking stick which she proudly struts round with as a showing of her rank among the population. She is usually seen with her Po-Matorn bodyguard Yori. A tall, beefy looking matoran whose lungs have been transformed by the ashes of the city's smelt mines, causing him to cough occassionally. He uses a respirator to help him breath in front of his visor-like mask which obscures his kanohi. Her snark knows no bounds, be it tactful or blatant, she is the kind of matoran you could never win an argument with. So Enjoy your stay.
  4. Of the creator of how many visorak comes... HOW MANY MATORAN? ..are there in the whole MU? That i would like to know. There are several islands, and most of them are populated by matoran (Artakha, Ninrah, Karzahni...). But how many are there? Is metru nui the largest city? Or is it a rathe small one? (about 1000) Someone has a greg quote?
  5. Okay, here's the thing: How do matoran get their energy? do they eat? do they recharge with the sun? how?! We have seen rahi trying to eat people, and ga-matoran selling fresh fish in onu koro, but is this canon? Someone knows anything? Any greg quotes?
  6. I have had this question bugging me for a long while ever since I decided to replay MNOG1 and that is, how many matoran were on mata nui? On biosector01 they say about 1000. But Ga-koro in MNOG1 and the bohrok chronicles is WAY to small to hold 166 matoran. Not even in MNOG2 is there enough room. So what is the actual number of matoran on Mata Nui?
  7. So we know that Matoran are very important for the proper running of the Matoran Universe's inner working, and that if they stop working, Mata Nui's health, and presumably the MU's "health" are affected, as Toa Jovan's team and the Metru Nui Civil War showed. But I was wondering, how exactly do they maintain things? What is it in a Matoran's day to day life that contributes to their ecosystem's "health"? This image makes it seem like they actively worked around, replacing and maintaining the Robot's insides: http://biosector01.com/wiki/images/5/5c/Art_Workers_In_Mata_Nui.jpg But from what I gather from Metru Nui, what they Matoran did wasn't really much about their environment as a whole (their environment generally resembled an natural ecosystem, no the inside of a robot remember), but about building for themselves in their own society and economy. Judging by human civilizations, this building tends to not help your environment so...how do we think it works? Maybe its something in their actions itself that remotely influences their environment's health? It's only stated that Matoran need to work to keep things running, but what part of all their jobs really helps their environments? I suppose being in the military is just a job that keeps the Matoran's jobs safe (so like stopping Rahi), rather than a job that directly helps the MU? Also, on Mata Nui, did the Matoran's actions help Mata Nui's health or not; so does being just outside the MU make a difference like that? I guess it would, and that Teridax planned as much, so that Mata Nui would eventually die, leading the way for the Toa who would bring he Ignika into play.
  8. Pretty much what it says on the tin. There were Matoran of every Element from the MU's inception, except for Shadow. Bear in mind that Shadow was just seen as part of the balance in the early Matoran Universe, and not evil until the Fire Nation attacked the Brotherhood started messing things up later on. It just feels wrong, and incomplete that these wonderful Elements that co-existed peacefully were technically unbalanced. I suppose you could argue that this lack of Shadow was made up for by Makuta...but still, you know what I mean. And why is the idea of a Toa of Light so amazing? I mean, sure there haven't been any at all until Takanuva showed up, but my point is why haven't there been any? And if Shadow Matoran were actually normal, shouldn't Toa of Shadow be normal too (I know they're not but hypothetically would they be, or would they be special like Av-Toa. I guess they would be because Light and Shadow in Bionicle are a bit like Matter and Antimatter: identical opposites lol) Any suggestions?
  9. I started a while ago trying to write a complete, chronological history of the Matoran Universe. I realized pretty quickly that that was a pretty big task, so I wanted to get help from a few places. I tried Tumblr and Reddit's Bionicle sections, but haven't gotten much back. Here's a link to the document so far. I explain the project further in the Introduction section. Feel free to read through what's there, and either email me or PM me if you want to help in any way. Thanks!
  10. Hey everyone. I'm back again. Here's another Work-in-progress that I've deemed complete. It's my custom version one of my favorite Matoran, Amaya, who appears in my podcast continuation of Bionicle: End of the Beginning. The design is heavily based off a friend of mine's, Fsnorglepuff, an MOCist well-known for this Matoro model. There are several modded parts, so far all you purists, this model is impossible to replicate. :PClick the images to see larger versions of them! Front/Back Foot/Hand Closeups Head Back Closeup Amaya and Midak Parts from bricklink orders that I used to make the Matoran The original Amaya from good 'ol MNOGII Thoughts and suggestions?

  12. Hi guys, reviews for Matoran? Or Monster go here. STORY TOPIC
  13. Now, to all the BZP veterans, fear not, I am fairly canonically versed so won’t be asking the worst of the annoying, constantly repeated gender questions that pop up in this section of the forums. At least not an uninformed state XD. I will go on for a bit, but hopefully that’ll also provide more depth and something new to think about c: Here, I will aim to analyse the subject of gender in the Matoran Universe in a fairly complete dissection, considering available canon information, and the most obvious concepts that it consequently implies. By doing so, I will guide you through the considerations I myself made, and then the subsequent questions it spawned. I hope this will also lead to constructive discussion regarding gender theories. There are four main questions, but a few little ones dotted around so check them out too (: *(Allergy Warning: Contains excessive brackets) Also, apologies for the apparently serendipitous structure of the text. [bonesiii: Sorry to add to the brackets, but several subjects relating to reproduction and origins controversies had to be edited out. Remember the rules. ] I will start with some dictionary definitions: “Male” a) Of, relating to, or designating the sex that has [certain organs]. b) Characteristic of or appropriate to this sex; masculine. And now: “Female” A) Of or denoting the sex that [...] bears young. b) Characteristic of or appropriate to this sex; feminine. Okay. Now let’s think about some Bionicle canon: The Great Beings made the Matoran Universe, in which a multitude of biomechanical organisms inhabit a vast, complex constructed ecosystem that serve as part of the internal functions of the colossal Mata Nui Robot. Arguably one of the most important of these organisms is the species called Matoran. These macro-tech workers live in a giant machine. However, this machine was obviously inspired in the ecosystems of true life on habitable planets (namely Spherus Magna). The natural “systems” develop into remarkably balanced and sustainable networks. Look at the Earth for example. The planet’s active geology and the Sun fuel the vast web of life [removed]. Species compete [...], yet only stable systems hold out. Hence balance is generally maintained, and to a truly spectacular precision and order. So pervasive and remarkably self regulating are the workings of life that some have even modelled the Earth as a whole as an organism in itself, sometimes referred to as “Gaia”. However, in order for the Earth to maintain this overall stability, life itself must constantly be in flux; [...]. [bonesiii: I had to cut a whole paragraph here. Essentially, large-scale beings have distinct gender, and this relates to origins issues as well. Sorry but almost none of that is allowed here.] So, one may expect that the MU [changes], so as to more accurately replicate the self-regulating merits of a living ecosystem that would be so obviously attractive to the architects of the Robot; the Great Beings. However, as we well know, the GBs felt [gender-related] reproduction wasn't necessary. Instead, the biomechanical robots of the MU work their ecosystem as a collective unit (or at least they should have done, were it not for the unpredicted sentience “glitch”), with the collective goal of maintenance, not the closed goal of surviving long enough to reproduce and to outcompete other species that may stop you doing so. This system may thus be better compared to the Portuguese Man of War jellyfish, which is essentially a “colony” of specialised organisms working together for the collective goal of being a successful Man of War, even if each unit is not directly aware of its role in the colony, it just knows what it needs to do its job. So reproduction isn't really needed in the context of the Matoran Universe, as we are so often told; and now we see that with a bit of thought, this can make sense. Hence, in a more mechanical, factory style system, the Matoran who die under whatever circumstances are simply “rebuilt/resuscitated” in the Red Star and replaced not with offspring. If a Matoran cannot be resurrected due to being completely destroyed, they may instead be replaced, when a completely new Matoran is brought into being with the enigmatic machines in Metru Nui, or if more Matoran are apparently needed, if it is in the best interest as the system as a whole (presumably the reason for Mata Nui’s involvement when new Matoran are made, since he is the only one with a truly holistic view of the MU who could appreciate if more Matoran would really be required). Okay, with context reflection out of the way, time for the first (proper) question (finally lol): 1.Why do Matoran have gender? Before I continue, I feel it is important to acknowledge the real world reason for it: relatability (which is also the primary reason that they are incredibly humanoid). Since the BIONICLE brand was aimed at boys, it makes sense for LEGO to make the main characters male, since the target audience will better engage with such characters as they are more relatable. However, in order to not appear completely sexist, they must include female characters too. Of course, it would really make sense for the Matoran to have no gender at all, but hey. Hasbro did the same thing with Transformers. These are also classic exhibits of The Smurfette Principle and to some extent the Token Minority tropes (look them up if you don’t know what they are). As a result, we have characters with seemingly pointless gender. So, any ideas guys? Before you think of an answer, let’s think further about what we know regarding this matter: First, I’d like to refer you back to the definitions of male and female. Now; clearly, if Matoran do not reproduce, they cannot literally, biologically, have a gender. That is, unless they can reproduce, but just don’t for some reason. The Withheld Reproduction theory was actually one that I held for a long time until the Red Star’s purpose was revealed, and for the following rationale: The MU may just not need [change], since these complex systems would only have to remain stable with one another for the 100,000 year operation period of the MU, which is an almost irrelevant time period in most cases (sentient intervention would of course greatly accelerate things). All the Rahi, Matoran and Skakdi etc. need only work harmoniously enough as a collective ecosystem for a (relatively) short amount of time. And if change was needed, the beauty of this semi-sentient network is that it can just be artificially managed (such as Makuta armour being upgraded due to their apparently unexpected evolution.) Also, (I’ve been desperate to discuss this at some point) in Voyage of Fear the Matoran Whenua made an interesting remark about a Rahi he saw in the Archives. After observing it (I think swimming around shallows or something like that) he theorised that the Rahi may evolve from having fins to legs (or vice versa, I can’t remember). This fascinating bit of information suggests MU organisms can gradually evolve to their environments, on their own, in a very significant way. This would remove the need of reproduction, and the idea is further made impossible by the Red Star's function, and the MU's expected life. Thus, let’s conclude that they definitely can’t and just don't reproduce. Then, by default, the attributed genders can only be due to their characteristics, i.e. that they are masculine/feminine. But is even that true? Let us examine the appearances of Matoran characters. Males are for previously mentioned reasons essentially the default, with female characters the deviation from the standard theme; hence I will refer to the differences female characters exhibit. Looking at the sets, comics and books (movies don’t count), female characters really aren't structurally different from the male characters (I’ll talk about Roodaka and other species later ). The traditionally feminine characteristics, like wider hips, larger buttocks, slimmer builds, breasts and shorter heights are really not observed at all in the Matoran species (maybe some in Gali Mata...just. Certainly not her monstrous Mistika form. Even so, she would be an exception, Nokama and Hahli don't follow suite). A canon reason would logically be that it’s because they don’t reproduce, so why would the GBs make a separation at all? The only thing that seems to suggest they are different is simply that we are told they are. (I think female characters did have feminine voices but I’m not even sure about that lol). We’ve seen MU characters identify each other’s genders, so there must be some recognisable difference, surely? One difference we do know was mentioned by Toa Orde. I’ll let this awesome quote speak for itself: “I know, I know,” he replied. “All Psionics Matoran, Toa and Turaga are female, and I’m male. Simple answer is, I’m the reason they’re all female.” Seeing the puzzlement in Chiara’s eyes, Orde smiled. “I was the first Psionics Toa, and one of the first Toa ever created,” he continued. “But I was, let’s say, a little too … aggressive in using my powers. I had a temper then. A short fuse plus psionics leads to bad things … sometimes very bad things.” “Like what?” asked Chiara, intrigued. “You know the Zyglak? Those savage, brutal monstrosities that hate everything to do with Mata Nui and think everyone looks better with a dagger in them? Well, they didn’t used to be that bad. Oh, they were nasty and violent, but … see, my first job was to calm them down a bit. And, well, it didn’t quite work out that way.” “Oh, no …” said Chiara. “What can I say? I got annoyed and pushed when I should have pulled.” “That still doesn’t explain why --” “After that, someone decided that maybe a gentler touch was needed for Psionics … so all the subsequent Psionics types were made female.” “Right,” said Chiara. She shot a bolt of electricity from her finger, frying a lizard that had been sunning itself on a rock. “We females are so gentle, after all.” And even this isn’t anything solid. Whoever made subsequent Psionic types female (maybe Artahka?) considered it a logical, justified course of action to make such a decision (of course, it may just have been a sexist joke, but I doubt LEGO would allow that...I hope so anyway). So, are females in the MU actually gentler? Let us think about this. Also bear in mind that we have to overcome the subconscious notion that they may be like humans, seeing as we are questioning if they actually have gender. Gali and Nokama were certainly the peacekeepers of their respective Toa Teams, but Gali is said to have been able to display quite a temper at times. In support of the idea that gentleness is a general trait of Ga-Matoran at least (no such info on Vo-Matoran, in fact Chiara seems to suggest the opposite, then again she's just one example. From the little we saw of Nikila, she wasn't particularly aggressive non gentle, not that I think there was enough of her shown to really gauge her personality). Now let’s see what Dalu has to say: “...I'm sure where you came from, Ga-Matoran are all gentle peacemakers who never raise their voices. That's what they ... we ... were like where I came from too." Judging by Orde’s comments, perhaps this trait extended to Vo/Ce-Matoran too. Dalu shows us two things that I care to mention here: - Ga-Matoran and probably Vo/Ce-Matoran display “gentle peacemaker” characteristics (Judging by Orde’s comments, perhaps this trait extended to Vo/Ce-Matoran too). - Matoran have malleable personalities that respond to their experiences (i.e. Dalu’s semi-traumatic new life on Voya Nui forced her to change). And of course due to the rampant individualism shown by MU inhabitants, we have some that may just be natural exceptions (GORAST, GORAST, GORAST). I would speculate these personality gender differences maybe be due to the Protodermic equivalent of hormones, in the way that higher levels of Testosterone show increased competitiveness/aggression in humans. This now suggests female Matoran in the MU serve the more supportive, social function of maintaining societal amity. Ignoring the sexism of this notion, I would conclude there were, to some degree, designed gender roles of a social kind. Perhaps it even reflected the state of Spherus Magnan society, since the GBs felt the MU captured the “Great Spirit” of SM in a poetic sense too, hence the name. Perhaps, further to this, the GBs just decided to make gender for the same reason we like to assign gender to robots. We like making things in our own image, and like relating to and personifying our creations, even if it doesn’t really make sense. This however, still doesn’t explain what external physical differences allows MU inhabitant to gauge gender. So, what do you think? Okay, I said I would talk about Roodaka. Specifically, I was to discuss the possibility of reproduction in other MU species. I don’t have anything on this myself so I’ll go ahead and ask: 2.Do any species other than Matoran reproduce biologically? The only reason I ask is because of Roodaka’s species, Vortixx. The only Bionicle species (other than Gali Mata and Kiina, although they are more subtle in femininity) that LEGO released that was clearly intended to be female. I mean, c’mon, who could miss those breastplates; with a colour scheme that brought even further attention to them. Not only this, she had emphasised hips/rump, a lean figure, high heels, earring things and a pony tail. More to the point, what are her breast(plates) for? I assume it’s just the Vortixx armour design, but one wonders. She remains a rather odd set in this sense. Then of course there is the sub issue of gender ratios in the MU (and possibly SM). Reproduction is apparently non-existent, but we can hypothesise that they have designed gender characteristics (maybe hormonal differences for better social cohesion). As we know, the ratios are overwhelmingly male biased, but why? If the GBs decided to attribute gender (seemingly pointlessly, from what we know) why not make it 50/50? Was it reflecting the SM gender ratio? We don’t really know. But hey! Theories? Now for lols, let’s consider what the gender ratios are specifically. If we look at it, it is rather unbalanced. Let’s start with the Matoran first: The problem is, we don’t really know the population distributions among the element types (I like to call them races/ethnicities). Since we don’t know the proportion of Av-Matoran to the rest, and we don’t know how much less common Secondary Elements are compared to Primary Elements. Then we have the added fact that Ba-Matoran are rarer than most Secondary races, to an unknown degree. But for the sake of this topic I’ll be arbitrary. I’ll assign relative population values to each ethnicity: Primary Elements Population Value: 6 (For Each Element) Av-Matoran Population Value: 6 (I’ll say 3 for male and female, assuming the gender ratio is equal) Secondary Elements Population Value: 5 (Each) Ba-Matoran Population Value: 4 Doing the maths gives an overall Matoran species gender ratio to be about 1.68 males to every 1 female. I consider the population values to be fairly reasonable. We have no information on gender ratios of other sentient species such Skakdi, Steltians, Vortixx etc. Note that female Skakdi are said to be more aggressive than males so the “Gentler Females “ doesn’t apply to them, but bear in mind that the whole species was experimented on by Makuta Spiriah, so we don’t really know how they were originally meant to be (they could well have followed the Matoran trend but Spiriah overcompensated in making them more violent, we really don’t know). Vortixx also arguably have less gentle females given their society (we cannot take Roodaka’s personality as a typical example, seeing as she is exceptional by Xian standards). We do have explicit information regarding the Makuta, thankfully: Originally 85 Male, 15 Female, hence a ratio of about 5.67 Males per 1 Female. The Makuta may have also followed the “Gentler Female” trend, judging by most female Makuta opposing Teridax’s Plan at the Convocation, which was dangerous and certainly not a calm, peaceful idea. So, there is certainly a gender imbalance, which naturally leads to the question: 3. Why is there a significant gender imbalance in the Matoran Universe? (Of course, the real reason is relatability, as I previously mentioned. However despite real world reasons I feel it is the joy and almost duty of a Bionicle fan to think about and theorise over the often ambiguous lore in order to expand it and keep the community rich and alive.) Again, sorry for the long read, but on the positive side, I hope my posts provide deeper thought than most of the other posts in the Bionicle Storyline & Theories section that you read :L Thank you for reading (: Peace. P.S. Bonesiii, enjoy the mild techno-babble Mata Nui! some of this was badly written and unclear looking back on it. Sorry 'bout dat
  14. I was looking through BS01 the other day today and I noticed that they claimed that gravity is a rarer element in the Matoran Universe than the other elements. Why is that? Gravity is an essential part of our world and especially the Matoran Universe as it has to constantly be maintained by Mata Nui, so why would it be so uncommon? If you have any clarification or theories of your own, please feel free to post. Thanks.
  15. Why is it that none of the Matoran remember Spherus Magna, the Great Beings, and the creation of Mata Nui? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they aid in the construction of the robot? Or is it that they developed intelligence and self-awareness sometime after the creation of the MU? It just seems like they should remember something as significant as their origin and the creation of the universe.
  16. Picture yourself as the ruler of a piece, or pieces of land in the Matoran universe. Do you rule over an island? An island chain? A continent? What is the kingdom's geography? Is it a barren desert? A place filled with jungles? Is it a city? What is the name of your kingdom? And the islands inhabitants? What are they? What does your kingdom pay allegiance to? Yourself? The Great Spirit? Do you have your own agenda? And does your kingdom have an army to enforce, protect, or carry out these agendas? What are the soldiers of your army if you have one? What weapons do they use? What place does your kingdom have in the story? Use your imagination here in this topic.
  17. After Mata Nui's destiny of Reformation was revealed and completed, a niggling question began to develop itself in my mind, and no one seems to have commented about it so I may as well do it. Not to mention some related, irritated plot comments/questions that will drag out for ages after the main point (sorry). I'll begin by asking you to place yourself in the shoes of the Great Beings during the Core War. *Dramatic Narrator voice * The mysterious, powerful substance, Energised Protodermis, has been discovered oozing from deep within Spherus Magna's core, possessing properties the likes of which even your hyper-advanced race has never encountered (even though you’ve lived on the planet for thousands of years apparently you never actually bothered to find out what is under its crust). What's worst, the people of the planet have begun warring over it, in a ferocious, planet-wide conflict. Although you try diplomacy in order to quell the fighting, you always fail, and the very Element Lords that you created to help lead the planet’s people are at the forefront of the Core War’s continuity. Amongst the violence to which you are impartial, you begin investigating the substance’s nature. Your experiments find Energized Protodermis is extremely volatile and unbelievably energetic, and that if much more leaks to the surface through mean of extraction, it could (somehow) lead to the entire planet literally blowing itself apart. Such an event would cause death on a scale of billions (no idea on what the population actually is but needed a dramatic number). And, as the war progresses, you see this is now a virtually inevitable fate. As retired rulers and (sort of) patrons of this world, you begin planning for the worst. From the very substance around which the war orbits, you begin constructing a salvation of unimaginable scale: The Mata Nui Robot. What does this pinnacle of engineering and technology do? It saves everyone by being a giant space ark that can easily carry vast populations around to other habitable planets? LUL NOPE *Initiate horrific punctuation due to the following resembling serendipitous thought chains. It fixes the planet! (Whose pieces don’t realign under gravity anyways because plot. (Not to mention, how the Karz does anyone survive being on a planet that blows apart? Surely that much force would flatten you if you were on Bota Magna for example, right? How does the atmosphere stay intact?)) So there it is: Why didn’t the GBs try and save anyone but themselves (BS01 says they left Spherus Magna, presumably to another habitable planet)? Why bother going to the trouble of fixing your planet after everyone’s dead when you could save everyone before it happens, take some EP with you for further experimentation and just move to another planet? Were they so angry with the fact the Core War happened that they condemned ENTIRE RACES to death or a horrible life wandering barren deserts? Because judging by Mata Nui’s job it seems more like the cared about the planet rather than its people. Are they really that cold? If the MU project was to collect data to know how to fix Spherus Magna, that would suggest that there might be other worlds with EP. If not, collecting data on planets with fundamentally different structures (No EP) and compositions seems a bit odd. Why bother looking at other planets’ chemical mixtures if in the end you’re just going to tractor beam your planet back together? Of course, Mata Nui looked at other cultures too (Meaning tantalising prospects of Bionicle characters meeting other aliens) so was it more about getting alien technology, and some pro-tips about stopping planet wide war (it’s interesting they didn’t end up in a Cold War situation seeing as they had really amazing tech on Spherus Magna) the Great Beings didn’t have/already know? Surely the priority order would be “save the world, research later”? Even though it was supposedly "research first so we know how to save the world". This of course leads to a really big question: If the Great Beings know what they want to create (how to Reform the planet), but don’t know how to make it work exactly (hence sending Mata Nui to collect random space data) why didn’t they just make another Mask of Creation (or an equivalent device) to tell them how to do it to save them about 100,000 years? You could argue they may just not want to use that since it takes away the thrill of developing, planning and creating, but one a matter as important as THE END OF THE WORLD they may put that feeling aside. The fact that they can make a Mask of Creation presents some very interesting possibilities too, but I won’t go into that. As for the “MU Ark” idea, I guess you could argue taking a bunch of warring people and putting them on a giant Megazord would probably not lead to an immediately peaceful co-existence (it doesn’t even need to have been the Mata Nui Robot, I just refer to it since it proves the GBs were capable of interstellar travel) since they would just keep fighting and probably kill each other by the time you got anywhere. Then again, would that actually leave more dead than the Shattering or not? We don’t even know how many people or percentage of people the Shattering killed. But surely the GBs would still save some people? You could argue that they may have done so but we just don’t know about it, but for the sake of the debate we’re disregarding that possibility. And how did they get away with taking the amount of EP (probably comparable to the mass of the Moon, judging by the MU's size) that must have been needed to synthesise the MU while everyone else was dying to get mere scraps of it? If extracting the EP was causing the planet’s instability, does that mean the GBs were the biggest contributor to the Shattering? Surely taking that much mass would also effect the planet’s centre of gravity, which may even cause other worse disasters like the planet’s orbit unbalancing causing it to fall into one of the Solis Magnan binary stars or out the system entirely? You could counter this idea with the “Bionicle-Physics-Is-Not-Real-World-Physics” card. To that, I will express my immense displeasure towards Greg for doing that; to me it feels like a lack of imagination. I believe it started with Jaller being able to make flames underwater, and ever since it has been a rock to hide behind when convenient. A good sci-fi can do literally anything and blag a sciency sounding excuse (seriously, check out the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Doctor Who, heck, even real world Quantum Mechanics lol). For example you could say the GBs had tuned gravity generator at specific points on the planet to keep it stable, make the Shattering survivable, maintain atmospheres, and keep the pieces together in predictable orbits (i.e. how Bara/Bota/Aqua Magna didn’t fly apart but settled together nicely in a stable orbit around one another for 100,000 years). But, I digress. This wasn’t meant to be so much about the answers/theories but more the questions...perhaps it wasn’t my destiny c: So waddya guys think? Have I completely missed something? Are there good points among my terribly articulated thought-like question/counter-questions? If anyone can tell me, it’s the members of BZP...Or Greg, but he seems to have vanished GB style. Thanks for reading, and peace! :3
  18. Does anyone know how matoran reproduce, or if they even do it at all? It has never been officially anounced if they do...
  19. Hey, everyone. So, I'm gonna go straight to the point and ask: How many actual languages do we know exist within the BIONICLE world? We know of the Matoran language, that almost everyone in the former MU used to speak; there's the Agori/Glatorian language of Spherus Magna. But is there anything else that we know of, for sure? Another thing is, I believe bonesiii once mentioned that, contrary to popular belief, the "actual" Matoran language wasn't equivalent to English, and neither was Agori. So, that makes me wonder about numerous other things, the most prominent of which is the Matoran alphabet that has been used since 2001. What part of it is actually "culturally correct" from a Matoran's standpoint? Could we assume that their alphabet is indeed what we have seen for years (i.e. essentially the English alphabet with a more dismal graphical interpretation), and it is just their grammar and syntax that are completely different? Or is their alphabet completely different as well?
  20. So, after the Matoran were awakened from Makuta's spheres by the Metru, how much did they remember? Did they at least know their names, or was that where the "corrupted names" (no idea what else to call them) come in? Did they have any vague memories of anything? Or did Teridax's spheres cause a complete wipe sparing only basic motor functions?
  21. Everyone has a favorite Matoran. Some value the Heroes, like Jaller or Takua, while others like the weirdos, like Midak. Others like the wild ones, like Kongu.Personally, my favorite is Vultraz in his shadow form. I'm into the shadowy matoran.Note: If you post a Matoran like Gavla or Radiak, who was a Shadow matoran at one time, specify which form was your favorite. ex: Radiak light form, Kirop shadow form etc.
  22. I haven't made a MOC in ages. Well. I haven't posted one in ages. So, here is a remake of the first MOC I posted on here: Okajo. He's a Matoran of plasma. Despite the fact he isn't colored like one (The original MOC was made in 09/08) Here is the original, not-too-well made one, with the vehicle I made for it. And here is the gallery for the new MOC. Chilling with his sword Ready for battle Front with sword/without sword Side with sword Back A close-up of the torso without armour And there you have it. A remake of the first MOC I posted on here. I'll post an old MOC of mine sometime in the future, which is kind of a self MOC and kinda not...And it also was made in the same time period as the first Okajo. So...yeah it won't be too pretty. But it's better quality somewhat. (Before anyone says anything about the red things poking out of the arms, it's kinda hard to fix that because I don't exactly have a sharp knife or pair of scissors laying around to make it look nicer...) Comment with your criticisms.
  23. Hi guys, as promised, Kranos. LINK TO MOCPAGES Also be sure to read his short story HERE! As always, C&C is appreciated and encouraged.
  24. I'll start off with pictures of the Trans-Blue Rurus. And for comparison, Note the Z-07 code on the front of the prototype, which is the one on the left. On the interior of the mask, the stud that connects it to the head is of larger diameter on the prototype. This is a feature of all prototype Kanohi from 2001. Again, it is on the left. And here's all four of them. They're also much smoother than the final version, and it seems like the plastic is slightly more translucent. Although my normal TB Rurus are a bit dusty.
  25. So, after something like three months of hinting at it and almost five months of work (I haven't had a lot of time), plus about a month of procrastinating taking the pictures, I finally present: Project REIGNITION ^Links to Larger Image^ Group Shot, No Vehicles Full Gallery (when public) So, just a little bit of background. I was in S&T a few months ago when I came across a topic dealing with alternate storylines that I can't find anymore. One post said that Lego had considered keeping the Inika as Matoran, but later decided against it. While discussing this, another member said "Well, that might work if they had vehicles or something." Lightbulb. I just had to try it. So, that very night, I went and built Jaller, and a week or so later, Kongu, and so on in longer intervals until I finally put the finishing touches on Hahli not too long ago. This project is supposed to be a reimagining of the Inika if they had stayed Matoran, although, since I think the Inika's masks were some of the coolest powers Lego has ever done (besides the Elda), I just had to keep them, so I decided the Red Star didn't turn them into Toa, but gave them the ability to use masks. Maybe it also fused their masks with an elemental mask as well. That's just another idea I threw around. After they landed on Voya Nui, Garan, Velika, Axonn, and Nuparu built the Matoran vehicles so they could better combat the Piraka. Overall, if they had been produced, I would have liked to see some of those Voya Nui aesthetics with them, with Voya Nui-style masks mixed with the new mask designs (I tried sketching out a few of these), maybe blended with another color like blue, white, or yellow to signify their transformation, as well as new armor and feet. I've been considering trying out sketching this, but I haven't gotten to it. A few notes before I get into the details. I had tried to keep some basic functions in all the vehicles, but gave up after many of them turned into: "Look, it turns!" Some of them have some pretty cool functions though, if I do say so myself. I also tried to keep to the pieces available at the time, even using mostly red and blue pins (although I "forgot" a few times when it looked terrible. ), although I also probably messed up a few times there too. You may also notices that some (okay, most) of the color schemes are not accurate or even aesthetically pleasing, because that's the pieces I had to deal with (Kongu, I'm looking at you). Jaller Little Lego-style intro I wrote: Jaller, the noble Captain of the Guard must be sure nothing gets past him as Piraka attack from all sides, but he comes prepared with his blazing-fast Lava Speeder, Energized Guard Staff and Red-Star activated Mask of Fate to burn through any challenge. Full Gallery (when public) (also features more pictures if you want a better look) Main Pic Driving the Lava Speeder Just Jaller Lava Speeder Side Notes: I didn't have enough pieces in Mata Red to build him, so I just left him Metru Red. Doesn't look too bad. The Guard Staff, before any of you cry "It's modified!! ," was actually a Tahu Sword that had been chewed, broken, etc. I just reused it instead of throwing it away, and it looks a lot better. Kongu This carefree Le-Matoran must quickly learn to keep it cool under pressure, but with his Wind Glider, Buzz Saw Staff, and Red-Star activated Mask of Telepathy, he'll find he is ready to blow the Piraka away. Full Gallery (public) Main Pic Driving the Wind Glider Kongu Wind Glider Side Gear Setup Notes: This guy is the worst of the lot, but it isn't my fault. Lego doesn't have all that many pieces in lime green or Teal, so I had to improvise. The Wind Glider is based on a design I had forever ago to build an Ornithropter (flying vehicle with flapping bird-like wings), but I have a confession to make: I messed up the gear differential so the gears don't have enough power to flap the wings all that well. No idea why I gave him that silver Matau Staff; if anyone has a better idea, please suggest it. Matoro Matoro never felt that he could be a hero, yet now he is tasked with saving an entire island! With his Snow-blade, Kanoka Disk Launcher, and Red-Star activated Mask of Spirit, he can freeze his foes in their tracks! Full Gallery (Public) Main Pic Driving the Snow-Blade Matoro Snow-Blade Side, Ski retracted Notes: The Snow-Blade started as an attempt to build a Snow Mobile based on the tracks from my old Mutated Muaka, but somewhere along the way, it turned into a tank. The ski extends for "more speed on ice," although it was really a sad attempt at a function. Honestly, Matoro seems like the last person who would drive a tank, and I would have given him his Turaga's staff instead of Kongu, but I didn't have it, and I just gave him a disk launcher (with a Throwbot disk) because he was one of the first Mata-Nui Matoran to find out about Metru Nui from the Turaga. Hewkii Brave Po-Matoran and Kohlii Star Hewkii is now the only hope for a group of Matoran on a distant island. With his powerful Mobile Turret, Kohlii Stick, and Red-Star activated Mask of Accuracy, this Matoran is ready for anything. Also, with a Mask of Accuracy, what better vehicle for him than a Turret? Nuparu This proud inventor is being put to the ultimate test designing vehicles so he and his friends can take on the Piraka, but he has saved the best for himself with the Boxor 2.0 and Red Star activated Mask of Flight so he can crush the competition! Full Gallery (Public) Main Pic Driving the Boxor 2.0 Nuparu Boxor 2.0 Punching Mechanism Notes: Nuparu was one of the easiest Matoran to build because practically every piece I wanted was in the right color, and he turned out great! The Boxor, not so much. I was originally going to do a little cart thing, but that ended up with too many pieces and overlapped a bit with Matoro's Snow-Blade. Then, I thought "well, why not give him a new Boxor?" And so I tried to make one using few pieces, and it's decent. The punching mechanism is pretty cool though; it's based off the Power Miners Granite Grinder, although you may recognize my version from this guy a while back. Hahli Once a calm Ga-Matoran, Hahli is now the last defense against the Piraka on Voya Nui, but with her Hoverboat, Aqua Scythe, and Red-Star activated Mask of Detection, she is more than ready to wash the villains away! Full Gallery (when public) Main Pic Riding the Hoverboat Hahli Hoverboat side Notes: I gave Hahli a different chestplate to show she is a different gender, and it doesn't look too bad. It's not exactly good for the Rahkshi head because the pin is bending, but I liked it enough. The Hoverboat is probably one of my best vehicles with a fairly cohesive color scheme and solid look with few parts, although I could only find one propeller that doesn't look great. Well, that concludes part one. I've got another part in the works that I just have one more guy to finish. Now that those guys are done, I'll have more time and parts to put towards my BBCC entry, which is an old idea Reborn in a New Way that will Wash away the competition. Unfortunately, I have decided I only want to save one Matoran and one Vehicle. I'm thinking Hewkii, Matoro, or Hahli, and the Turret or Lava Speeder. Any other suggestions? As always, enjoy, comment, critique, etc. Thanks for reading that wall of text!
