  1. Dear friends, The past year has been really bumpy for me in a lot of ways. I’ve grappled with emotional dependency, depression, anxiety, and more. One good thing that has come about over the past year, albeit with some challenges of its own along the way, is thinking critically about my gender identity, which has led to some big realizations. For a long time I have related really well to my female peers and have felt deeply invested in their personal struggles. Many of the fictional characters I was most inspired by as well as characters I was most interested in creating in my own art also tended to be girls and women. Meanwhile my feelings about my own more masculine traits have ranged from apathy to frustration — the closest I could generally come to pride in my appearance was a vague, dubious sense that other people might like or respect me more as an adult if my appearance and presentation were sufficiently “manly”. I was never quite satisfied with the way I presented myself in selfies and self-portraits and for the longest time I couldn’t figure out why. As a teenager, I would frequently try and visualize what it would be like to be a girl, sometimes in my head, sometimes with the aid of drawings or with software like the Yahoo Messenger avatar creator, and sometimes just by assuming feminine poses in the mirror when I was certain of my privacy. I didn’t really think too deeply about my motivations, though. Wasn’t all this curiosity just a quirky, introverted teenage way of coming to terms with my attraction to the female body? Come to find out, probably not! In early March I finally opened up to myself about the possibility (or rather, near certainty) that I might be transgender. By this point I had a lot of transgender friends in the LEGO community, and their experiences spoke to me on a personal level. I’d also had over a decade to move beyond the narrow-minded thinking that my after-school Catholic youth group lessons had tried to instill in me. And as soon as I started thinking about my feelings and experiences in the context of being a transgender girl, all these disconnected bits and pieces suddenly made complete sense within my life’s overarching narrative. It’s been extremely liberating to be honest with myself and with some of the people closest to me, whose support and encouragement has been invaluable. From here on out, you can call me Skye. I’m 27 years old and only just beginning the journey of loving myself for the sensitive, bright, and beautiful woman I am. I ask you to please be supportive of me as I engage with this process of self-reflection and discovery. It’ll be intimidating for me sometimes — even with as much social progress as there’s been as of late, the world is still a scary place for a woman. It’s also going to be a lengthy learning experience. It’s one thing to hear about how confusing things like women’s clothing sizes or prices can be; it’s another thing entirely to have to make sense of that confusion! But with all these big steps comes a long-overdue sense of pride and confidence in who I am, not just what I can do. I hope I can make all of you proud as well! With love, Skye
  2. near the end of Bionicle G1, I tried a bit of MOCing. I thought I was so cool. My selfMOC was made before I knew what a selfMOC was. and you know, it was an Inika build. I thought I was making the coolest creations. My first titan was using Tuma's body, no changes. I stopped trying after a couple months. Then at the end of G2, I started again. I used the 2016 Torso pieces with slight changes. Then I started adding posable hands to my MOCs. Then I started doing custom torsos. Then lots of details. In a period of about a year of MOCing, I have made a lot of progress. My Titan Makuta is way better than Terrracus, my first titan. And now my SelfMOC has way more detail, custom torso, articulated hands, skirting, the whole nine yards. I even added weapon storage on his back. I then made the handle of his hammer way more interesting than a normal long axle. I am hoping to get a goood camera in a couple months so I can share my MOCs on the sites and places I really like. after a year and a half of MOCing, I am making creations I can really be happy with. When I found websites about Bionicle, I was discouraged. That is not true anymore. Thanks for reading my rambling on my creations. ~Spiffy.

    True Fear

True fear is going on your old Brickshelf and remembering how you used to make cheesy sprite comics. I'm too afraid to look.
  4. Hordaki

    A Thought

I've already done four 'Penny Thoughts' posts, but I have no idea how to do another without possibly reviving a blog fad. Also I would say not to use this post to start another one, but that would inevitably start another one.
  5. Hordaki

    Meep

Thanks to Chromedome for the name idea. I'll switch back to Hordaki eventually, but for now I wanted something different.
  6. I'm bored, so I'm doing an AMA. Ask away. (Also I'm still looking for a new display name, so if you have any ideas pitch them here. I'll pick one after the weekend)
  7. Hordaki

    New Name?

So I'm thinking of changing my display name, but I don't know what to pick, so pitch me one. It could be anything you want (Bionicle, Lego, TV, movies, alpacas, expensive cheeses, etc.). I'll pick whichever one I like most or have a vote if I can't decide.
  8. Turns out that I've been a premier member for three weeks and didn't even notice until now. I figured that I had to do something to redeem it, but I didn't and now I feel like a cool dude. Thanks to Ravana for hosting the Chrom essay contest. Anyway, on to business... What's up?

  10. Exactly one year ago today, I posted the final chapter of my last epic, In the End (which you can read here if you are interested). It was the big grand finale of the Shikaverse, my own Bionicle fanfic universe, as some of you might recall. Since then, I have published eleven original novels, four short stories, one novella, one collection, and one serial (which is five episodes), with even more works on the way before the end of 2015 and going well into 2016 and beyond. I even started a new pen name and have plans to create another in 2016. As you can tell, I have been very busy since I stopped writing and posting fanfics here, and with good reason. Why did I decide to stop writing and posting fanfiction? Simple. I counted the costs and realized that if I was going to make it as a professional fiction writer, I would have to put aside fanfiction, at least for now, so I could devote my writing time to my original works. After all, I can't make money off of fanfiction (well, unless LEGO ever decides to give me permission to sell my fanfics, but LEGO, as great a company as it is, ain't that generous with its intellectual properties). I have not talked much at all about making that transition from hobbyist fanfic writer to professional fiction writer on this blog. This is mostly because I've been too busy writing, publishing, and marketing my original fiction to blog about it on BZP; after all, I want to be paid to write fiction, not blogs. Nothing against professional bloggers or people who want to be professional bloggers. I just don't like blogging nearly as much as writing fiction and don't care to make a career out of it. That's all. But I know that many of you write fanfiction and that at least some of you want to eventually move on from fanfiction to original fiction. Many of you would like to write fiction for a living; and not just for a living, but for a lifetime career, full of the ups and downs that every career in every industry has. That's an awesome goal that I completely support no matter who you are. But it is definitely not a simple or easy goal. Despite the rise of indie-publishing (which some of you may know as self-publishing, but I prefer to call it indie-publishing), making a full-time living as a professional writer is still very hard. It requires an almost completely different way of approaching writing than writing fanfiction as a hobby, and making that transition is by no means smooth or without its own challenges. For this blog post, I am going to discuss indie-publishing; that is, independently publishing your own work through your own publishing house, without any of the big publishers or any of the established smaller publishers publishing your work for you, usually using websites like Amazon or Barnes & Noble (or aggregators like Smashwords or Draft2Digital) to distribute your work to readers as ebooks, paperbacks, audiobooks, etc. You typically pay for the covers, editing, formatting, marketing, and whatever other expenses you have associated with your publishing business or learn to do all or some of it yourself. You will probably end up registering your business as an actual publishing house with an actual publishing name (mine is called Annulus Publishing, for those interested). I am focusing on indie-publishing because that is the path I chose and the one I know best. I do not recommend new writers go to the traditional publishers at the moment because of their draconian contracts and shady business practices; at least, you shouldn't submit to traditional publishers without first thinking it through, doing your research, and being aware of how they deal with new writers nowadays, as well as knowing what your own goals as a writer are. Knowing how to negotiate is important as well if you choose to go that route. With any potential confusion on terminology now out of the way, let's get onto the actual meat of the essay. Please note that much of this is just my own personal experience and opinions and may not necessarily apply to you. Every writer is different, so don't be afraid to reject some of my advice while accepting other parts of it. That's how writers learn, after all, because good advice and bad advice are usually mixed together pretty well in writing and publishing and can sometimes be difficult to distinguish from one another without thinking it through first. (NOTE: If you're here for the free ebook drawing, just scroll down to the bottom of the post to learn how you can win a FREE copy of my novel Reunification in any ebook format you like!) Having said that, for me, the transition from fanfiction to indie-publishing was not quite as drastic or uncomfortable as it could have been. While much of my writing time over the past eight or nine years has been devoted to fanfiction, I also wrote original novels and short stories between fanfic projects in order to prepare for the day when I would make the leap from fanfiction hobbyist to full-time professional fiction writer, although I never shared them with anyone and will probably never publish them, at least in their current forms (some of them are still really cool ideas that I'd love to write again at some point, though not sure when). Thus, when I decided to make that leap, I already had some experience writing original fiction, which really is a different game from writing fanfiction. If you want to make that transition, too, I suggest writing original fiction now, perhaps in-between fanfics, in order to get used to it, because that is primarily the kind of fiction you will be writing as a professional writer (unless you become a media writer or write a ton of Kindle Worlds stories or something, but that's a whole different ballpark from self-publishing, one I will not get into in this essay, so don't ask me about it). In many ways, fanfiction and indie-publishing are similar in that you are usually responsible for posting (for fanfiction) or publishing (for original fiction) your work. For some writers, the idea of actually publishing their own work is extremely foreign, but for me, it is as natural as posting the next chapter of my most recent epic or comedy on BZP. But publishing a book, even through the self-publishing platforms provided by Amazon and other ebook stores, is much more difficult and time-consuming than posting a fanfic online. I had to learn how to format my ebooks and layout my paperbacks, but even that was not terribly difficult. Ebooks are made using HTML, which is similar to the BBCode used on BZP and other forum sites, which I was already used to, so learning HTML was not nearly as hard for me as it could have been. As for paperbacks, that was trickier, but I can now make a paperback novel with a professional-looking interior, so that's not an issue anymore. The hardest part of the whole publishing process, for me, has been book cover design. I know some indies design their own covers and are pretty dang good at it, but I am just not all that great at graphic design and don't really care to spend the time learning it. I therefore hire out my covers to professional cover designers, which has worked out pretty well for me. I recommend every indie writer hire out their covers unless they already know or are willing to learn how to make good covers themselves. But once the book is actually published and out there in the world, that's where marketing and promotion come in. Typically, when you post a fanfic, you do zero promotion for it outside of maybe mentioning it on your blog, making a banner for it in your signature, or having it featured on a site that features fanfics (a good example of this is how the BZP front page sometimes features notable fanfiction from the community). There are probably other ways to promote your fanfics, but there aren't too many. In indie-publishing, however, you need to do some actual marketing and promotion. You don't need to spend months and months and thousands of dollars throwing together a nationwide book tour or anything like that (unless you want to or think it would be financially viable). But you do need to understand the basics of marketing and promotion and be up-to-date on all of the latest marketing and promotional techniques other writers and publishers use to get their work in front of readers and know what's worth your time and money and what isn't. Like every business, you need to have a marketing plan, which may This leads into what I believe is the most important difference between indie-publishing and fanfiction: One is a business. The other is a hobby. In early 2014, I founded the independent press Annulus Publishing. I have several different reasons for doing so, but the primary reason is because it allowed my CreateSpace print books to get into bookstores (if you don't understand how that works, please refer to professional writer Dean Wesley Smith's post on getting your indie books into bookstores). In my early dreams of becoming a professional writer, I honestly did not see myself founding a publishing company; however, I believe it is an important step for any indie writer to take, again for a variety of reasons that I will not get into right now. As an independent publisher, I have a publishing schedule I try to follow as best as I can. In fact, I have my publishing schedule figured out through 2019. That may sound far-off, but as a small business, I can't just finish my books whenever and publish them when I feel like it. One of the most important factors in making it as a professional fiction writer is regularly putting out work for readers to buy. You don't need to write and publish a book a month; however, you can't publish one book a year, either, and hope to make anything more than coffee money, if even that, from your writing (unless you get fantastically, stupidly, astonishingly lucky or are a marketing genius). And as a small business, I have expenses that I need to keep track of. This actually isn't as hard as it sounds. I have a simple document on my computer where I jot down every expense I make (for example, if I pay $80 for a cover, that goes into the expenses document). I need to make sure I don't spend more money than I have and to spend money only when I am sure I need to or when it would be a good investment. Unnecessary expenses can hurt any business, but especially small businesses, which is what my independent press is. Furthermore, I need to keep track of how much money I earn from my books every month. Right now, this is manageable, because I am not selling many books per month, but if I ever start to sell really really well (as in, bestseller-level), then this will most definitely become a chore. I need to remain aware of how much money I am making from month to month in order to figure out how well (or badly) I am doing. Fanfic writers don't ever have to worry about monthly income like that. And then there's everyone's favorite topic to discuss over a romantic late-night dinner in France: Taxes. As a small business owner, I have to keep track of my expenses and income in order to figure out how much tax money I owe to the government. Again, it's not nearly as scary or hard as it sounds, especially if you keep good records of your expenses and income and have a good CPA to help you figure it all out, but it is definitely something you need to do lots of research on so you can understand it better. You may also need to hire a CPA to help you file your taxes, depending on how complicated your situation is (note: I am not a certified public accountant or tax person or whatever, so don't ask me for any advice on your personal tax situation, as I am not qualified to do so). Also, the publishing industry is constantly changing. Old marketing techniques fall out of favor, new ones surge into popularity, publishers open and close, Amazon and other self-publishing platforms make changes to their algorithms, new laws and regulations come out of nowhere, old scammers go out of business, new ones come in to take your money, and the income of writers can rise or fall drastically on a whim. In order to keep your head above water, you must remain on top of the changes in the publishing industry at all times. Never, even for a moment, think you have it all figured out and don't need to learn anything else ever again. As soon as you do, you're done. You can kiss your writing career good bye and go back to your day job, if you have one. I recommend following as many blogs and websites on writing and publishing that you possibly can. Join Facebook or other social media groups devoted to writing and publishing. Talk to other writers about any changes they've heard about or noticed. Read good books by successful writers and never stop learning. Never. Stop. Learning. Ever. Because while you can remain ignorant of the general fanfiction community without any real problems, you remain ignorant of the changes in publishing and you are in danger of being screwed out of your money and rights by unscrupulous publishers, agents, and really anyone who knows they can make a buck or two off ignorant, naïve newbies who are too afraid to learn about the industry they've chosen to make their living in. Trust me, there are a TON of scam artists out there who make their entire living scamming new writers. Do not be ignorant. Do not. Speaking of scams, I cannot emphasize the importance of understanding copyright. Copyright is what writers are actually selling whenever they sign a deal with a publisher, whether big or small. You don't need to understand copyright as well as an IP attorney in order to be a writer; however, you must understand the basics and what copyright is. If you do not understand that every book, every story, every article you write is property—regardless of whether you publish it or not, regardless of its quality, regardless of whether you sell a million copies or no copies at all—and that it can be very valuable (as in, the hundreds of millions of dollars valuable, depending on how popular it is) property, then you will get screwed over by publishers and agents and anyone else who wants your money. Don't think that copyright is irrelevant. It is one of the—maybe even the—most important things anyone wanting to become a professional full-time fiction writer must understand in order to make a living. A good book on the subject is The Copyright Handbook by Nolo Press, a book you will need to read and reread several times before you understand it all. Take your time to understand copyright. You will thank me later after your understanding of copyright helps you make wise business decisions and a lot of money. Trust me. Fanfic writers never talk about copyright except when we are worried about infringing on it. Even then, I see a lot of misunderstanding in the fanfic community over what copyright actually is, which is probably why I was shocked to learn what it really is in publishing and writing. As an example of how important copyright is: Let's say you've written a novel. You license (not sell, which is different) First English Hardcover Rights to one publisher, First English Paperback Rights to another, First English Audio Rights to yet another, and First English Electronic Rights to a fourth. Each of these publishers pays you some money for the right to publish your work in the aforementioned formats, but if you're smart, these rights will revert to you at some point and you can sell them again and again and again to whoever wants to buy them. And this is just English language rights I'm talking about here. You can do the same with French language rights, Russian language rights, Chinese language rights, and so on and so forth. One of the most amazing things about copyright is that the sky is the limit for how you can divide it and license it to other people. Yet if you sold the entire copyright of this same book to one publisher, then you can't do anything like what I just explained. Well, I guess you could buy the copyright back from the publisher or maybe invoke the 35 year reversal clause, but those are unlikely to happen, so it's better to license only a part of your copyright to certain publishers or individuals with a clear reversion date written in a legally-binding contract. See how important copyright is now? I hope so. Dean Wesley Smith has a good post explaining it better than me for those interested (and of course, you should absolutely pick up a copy of The Copyright Handbook, published by Nolo Press, for even more detail on copyright). This ties into another difference between fanfiction and indie-publishing. Indie-publishers, whether newbies just starting out or veterans who have been around for a while, are constantly talking and thinking about business. Constantly. In fact, sometimes all of this endless business talk makes me weary (as fun as the business of writing is, I like talking about the craft of writing a bit more, to be honest). Fanfic writers, by contrast, never talk business. Ever. Which makes sense. Fanfiction—unless it is officially licensed or sanctioned by the original creators—is a hobby. I cannot sell my 300,000+ word Zaktan and Kotu shipping fic (which doesn't exist, BTW, as it's just an example) to any publisher, nor can I self-publish it for money (unless I pull a Fifty Shades of Gray and change the characters' names, obviously). It makes no sense to talk about income or marketing or expenses or taxes or business in general when talking about fanfiction. But it is important to learn business if you want to make it as a writer. The most successful writers are both great businesspeople and great artists. You need to understand both the business and craft of writing in order to succeed. Fanfic writers generally understand the importance of craft (though even that understanding is usually pretty amateurish), but there is zero understanding of the business of writing among fanfic writers. Zero. This ties back into what I said previously about having a publishing schedule for my publishing company. Every publishing company, big and small, has a schedule of some sort. Very, very few fanfic writers have even the vaguest publishing schedule for their works. Most fanfic writers can't even handle a chapter a week. Asking them to plan out months, even years, in advance what books they will publish, and when? Might as well be asking them to speak Klingon for all the good that will do. Now there is nothing wrong with this sort of “I'll get it done whenever” attitude toward fanfiction, but it's a huge problem if you bring it with you into professional publishing. As I said before, one of the secrets to making it as a writer is to publish often and regularly, and a good way to ensure that is to have a publishing schedule figured out. It needn't be completely full—there's nothing wrong with leaving a few blank spots for those kinds of books that come to you out of nowhere but which you need to write desperately—but it should be full enough to give you a general guideline for what you will write and publish over the course of the year. And feel free to change the schedule if necessary. Fail to get Book A published in January? Publish it in February, then, and move on. No need to obsess over a missed deadline. But do try to avoid pushing back releases too often like that. Especially for books in a series, where it is crucial to get each new book out in a timely manner so your readers don't forget or get impatient and frustrated with you. If you have a habit of delaying releases all the time, that will definitely hurt your reputation more than it will help it. I know all of this sounds like a lot of work, and it is. No matter whether you choose traditional publishing, indie-publishing, or a hybrid of both, making it as a full-time professional fiction writer is not easy. There is no publishing one ebook with a shoddy cover, priced at $0.99, on Amazon, and kicking back and waiting for the money, sales, and accolades to pour in. Nor can you expect to get a seven figure traditional publishing deal by submitting one book to one publisher and doing nothing else (you'd be lucky to get a high four figure advance, actually, considering the current state of traditional publishing, but that's irrelevant at the moment). But trust me when I say that this business is fun. Even more fun than writing and publishing fanfiction. To me, all of it is fun. Writing books is fun. Formatting is fun. Seeing what kinds of awesome covers freelance cover designers come up for me is fun and even paying them to do that is fun. Uploading my books onto Amazon and other stores is fun. Holding the proofs of my paperbacks in my hands is fun. Talking with other writers about the craft and business of writing is fun. Seeing a book I published sell even just one copy the next day is fun. Getting money deposited into my bank account from my book royalties is fun. I am not yet making enough money to live off of. Nor am I selling many books. I don't have many true fans just yet, and I am pretty unknown to the vast majority of English language readers in the US and in the world at large. But here is another secret about writing and publishing: Despite the overnight successes and breakout hits you always hear about, it truly is a long-term business. I can't get obsessed with the success or failure of one book. My success or failure as a writer is not dependent on any one book or series I write. What matters is whether I will keep going, keep writing and publishing, keep learning and improving, and never looking back at my failures except to learn from them. I must walk forward always. I will, however, say that I am seeing my sales increase. I've sold more books and made more money this year than I have last year; and, God willing, I will do even better next year, and the next, and the next. Or I won't, as writing income can be rather erratic and unsteady. Some years you get more money than you know what to do with; other years, you wonder how you're gonna put bread on the table for yourself. But hey, who knows? Maybe by this time next year, I will actually be making a full-time living as a professional fiction writer. But if not, that's okay. I'm in it for the long haul, so whether it takes me one year or ten, I will keep writing and publishing always. And I highly recommend that strategy to every writer who wants to make a living at this crazy business, no matter what genre you write or way you publish. - If you made it this far, that's great, because to celebrate my one year anniversary from quitting fanfiction, I am currently running a BZP-only random drawing to give away one free ebook copy of my science-fantasy novel, Reunification*, to five randomly-drawn names. To enter the drawing, simply comment in the post below saying that you'd like to join and I will add your name to the drawing. 11. https://imgur.com/a/jHMsN#0 This is me, as an Okoto villager. basically uses styles from the protectors of Ice, Water, and Jungle, plus my own little flair. I recolored the Air Elemental Flame Bow, and designed my own pistol that connects to the little guy's left thigh. The Bow is the Protector of Jungle's bow, just recolored, so it functions the same way. The pistol fires by rotating the barrel. I did some slight reworking of the armor, as you can see in the "Vitruvian" pictures, and the arm construction is completely different from the Protector of Ice. I know it's not that impressive, but I always wanted to built myself as a matoran, but the Matoran builds were always either really impersonal, or just odd. Thus, I finally worked up the strength to take apart some of my protectors and just build this. Any criticism would be very welcomed, as this is just my second MOC on BZP.
  12. So, last time I just showed you guys a sketch that I did of myself. This time, however, I figured I'd upload an actual selfie. Eh, I guess putting up a sketch and calling it a selfie seemed kinda trollish? But, no more! I am just sorry that old blog post was misleading. This is a photo of me. I know, I know, you don't have to say it... I have really nice eyes. ~Junpei
  13. So, after deciding to get all the Bionicle adventures books, I went on Amazon and found the whole collection (used) would be £28.10. :¬| If anybody would be kind enough to point me to someone selling these books cheap it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  14. (If I did manage to say anything offensive in this post, please leave a comment below telling me what I did wrong so I may correct it. I wrote this in a not very long amount of time with almost no preparation or revision. Thank you.) I grew up (and still am growing up, I'm still an angst-ridden teenage junior in high school) in a fairly small town in a Midwestern state where not a lot really happened. To call it sheltered might be an overstatement, but growing up I wasn't too aware of the problems facing our society. It just wasn't something that I really worried about because, as a child, it wasn't something that directly affected me. I was a pretty goody-two-shoes kid, but I had a really, almost dangerously strong moral compass. (At least I like to think so.) I wanted everyone to be my friend; I was nice to anyone I met. I wouldn't hurt a fly, physically or verbally- not that I would start shouting at an insect, but you get the point. Granted, this made me a bit of a pushover because I didn't want to make anyone mad at or disappointed with me. To an extent, this is all still true today. I try to be a little more carefree, but I still try to be as nice and kind as possible. For the most part, people were nice to me as well, and I thought the world was a pretty swell place. It was somewhere people could all get along: everyone was equal, no one had any reason to fight or disagree, all was at peace. As I grew older, things changed. I began to see the prevalence of racism, sexism, and other injustices in our society. It baffled me. I was still approaching the world with a everyone-gets-along mentality, and thus I was pretty confused. Why would people be mean to each other in this way? I thought everyone was friendly? All of this was something that I had trouble wrapping my mind around. I learned about the significance of racism long before sexism and gender stereotyping, and even then I didn't really understand the full scope of racism until much later. As far as late-grade-school me was concerned, racism had stopped at the Civil Rights Movement. I didn't realize how blatantly wrong I was until much later. Maybe it was because I was in a fairly sheltered environment; we quite simply didn't discuss things like this, and as a result I didn't know that they existed. But I soon learned. Going into middle school and high school, my eyes were soon opened to the injustices of the world. Yes, discrimination against races and genders and other groups was frequent in the world, not everyone got along, not everything was at peace. To put it lightly, this baffled me. I couldn't accept that I had been living in a world where these things happened. For a while, I didn't accept this. I didn't accept that I lived in a world where feminism was necessary because I didn't think it should have been necessary. Why couldn't we all just be equal? Why couldn't we all just be friends? Thus began the deterioration of my innocence. I began to question, I began to learn. Learn about stereotyping, learn about how unequal some of us were and how privileged others were. I approached it from a unique perspective because I think I managed to avoid a lot of the bias and discriminatory views that would have been ingrained in me just because of my innocence. Granted, I'm not completely unbiased (especially as a straight half-white male coming from the community that I did), but I was emerging from a simulation where everyone was equal and entering a reality where everyone was not. I was scared. But I soon came to accept this, and began to formulate my own opinions about things in high school. One of my closest friends (and probable soulmate) helped me with this. She opened my eyes to racism and sexism in our society and how unbalanced everything and everyone was. In addition, the fact that the internet began to spotlight these things with greater frequency also helped. Yes, that means you, BZP. So I soon became an advocate for social justice. I now know that racism and sexism are present in our society. I know everyone isn't equal, and I know that we have to fix that. I know that feminism is necessary. I'm not the innocent kid that I used to be, and part of me misses that kid because it was a lot easier being that kid and not worry about saying the wrong thing or doing something offensive. But I had to accept the reality that I live in a society where those things can happen, and I had to accept how I had to change in order to not do that. Granted, I'm certainly not perfect. I'm still learning, and every once in a while I might say something wrong or do something wrong, and I apologize for that. But I'm getting there. I know first-hand that it's a journey. And, even though I'm certainly not at my destination, I've come pretty far.
  15. Okay, I have to imagine that we've got some Don't Hug Me I'm Scared fans here. Discuss, speculate, express horror, etc. I've recently fallen prey to some awesome Tony the Clock/Notebook fanart, such as this one.
  16. Now, after a long time, I am back! ...And with a new MOC! Edit: Whoa, that was a large image. Please keep posted images in BBC to 640x640 pixels and 100 kB. Thumbnailed, but click on the thumbnail and you'll load the original image. -Wind-
  17. Texas Sunset As I sit in my living room playing Forza Horizon, I pause the game and look out to my right. It has only been two or three days since my summer started, and all I’ve done is play games and do things on the computer. I have done nothing physically and I really want to get into shape. I open the blinds in my living room window, which is actually where the garage door should be. I let the rays come in and shine on down on my face. The rays began to give me new strength in motivation. I turn off my X-Box, Stereo System, TV, and look into the living room. I have no idea when this garage was transformed into a living room, but at least it looks nice. The right wall from where I sit on the red love seat looks brighter than it was. The white, beige walls surrounding it made it feel even more serene. I take a breath in and look at my MOCs sitting on the bookshelves. Each one placed there and posed to look good, and the plastic moldings of them look brighter. I then stand up from the love seat and wait for my eyes to adjust to the sitting position that I was in. I walk over to my room on the other side of the house, and change into some sports attire. I put on my black and red highlight New Balance shoes, black sport shorts, and my grey middle school athletic shirt and head out of the house. As I make it past the driveway, the rays hit my face, practically blinding me since I don’t have my glasses on. I take it all in and begin running to the nearby pond where I can relax and enjoy the scenery there. As I run to end my street I look out in front of me and see the green hills far from my home. The Lost Oak reserve would be a nice place to go to at this time, but I don’t know how to drive, with the only exception being in the games that I play. The beautiful burnt summer leaves are gorgeous and the houses I pass by are astonishing. Everything about the Texas landscape is alluring to me. From the Great Plains at the Panhandle, to the swamp in Houston, it looks great. From the Unforgiven desert in El Paso, to the hot border of Laredo, the pink sky intoxicates me. The trees, flowers, roads, and landscape make the beauty all possible. The prairie field covered hills make me want to just stop and feel the land around me. As I arrive at the duck pond, I take some time to look at it. The pond is rather small, with a little fountain in the middle of it. Ducks roam around the entire park area and feed off the plants that we don’t see. The trees provide shade and homes by breaking into the hillside, and make holes by its roots. If I walk around where I am standing, from the hill and back in a trip, it’s about 400 yards. But the rest of the park that has picnic tables, playground, gazebo, and basketball court add at least another 400, which makes it half a mile long. Small trees can be found on the side of the hill, including some other types of plants near the hillside. I make my way to a bench on the hill and sit down. I imagine myself finally driving a nice car with that girl that I’ve had my eye on for a while. Just driving with the top down and listening to either Hurting by Friendly Fires, or Encore by Digitalism into the sunset on the highway. The rush of the summer air and cooling breeze of the night hit my face, even though it is my imagination. Oh how I wish I’m sixteen already. It’s probably about 7:50 or 8 o’clock, so it’s best if I head back home. As I run back home, I change the song on my MP3 to Encore by Digitalism, a truly lovely great dub-step/electronic song to listen to at this time of day. The bass fills my ears and the ambient sounds surround me with their touch. It’s a magical world out there, so why nit head out and watch the sunset.
  18. As per my front page news story, I'm up for interrogation this month in the BZPowercast. Which means I need questions to answer! That's where you come in--ask me anything! Anything? Well, sure, but we'll have a whole lot more fun with geeky questions or real questions inquiring about various aspects of life. And any gobdlygook nonsense will probably be ignored as it's hard enough when put on the spot being asked about the average velocity of an unladen swallow (you've been warned). Leave questions here or send them to me in a PM. -CF
  19. A Rebirth of a Hero If anyone knows war, it’s the sole body that’s lying on the grey ashed ground. War was taken over the city of New York, and the sky is ash grey. Who knows why the sky is like that? The light penetrating the sky is the dim burnt orange rays of the sun. Buildings on fire, people screaming and the sound gun fire pierce the air. The lone young soldier lays their motionless. He was shot in multiple times in the chest by machine gun fire. His gun is nowhere to be found. Only his pale ash body and ash covered clothes are on him. His age appears to be around 16, with a slight mustache growing on him. His hair is a black to dark-brown color. He only has a brown trench coat, finger-less gloves, jeans, and a grey t-shirt. This lone body was the fighting hope of a rebellion that has now been reduced to nothing. His name is Ricardo, born into a world where corruption and dishonesty run rampant. It wasn’t until the UN decided to take complete control of the nations that an uprising began. Ricardo vowed that this wickedness will end soon with his power, for it seemed that he wielded a power that no man could ever possess the power of fire. He aided the rebellion in numerous victories across the US. Thus ending his life here, in a park filled with trees and a small lake or pond. Then suddenly the wind starts blowing to the east, then to the north. Has unknown force known to man has come to aid humanity in its darkest hour? The winds then blow to the west, then to the south. Each gust of wind going faster and faster, soon the wind comes in all directions towards his body. He rises from the earth and stands limply as he is picked up by the winds. His blood starts recirculating and his heart starts beating. Slowly then faster and faster, as soon as it reaches the maximum heart rate, it drops. His heart rate returns to normal. A new dawn has risen. A hero resurrected. Revenge now flows through his veins. His hands turn to fists, and then he releases them, showing the bright fire flowing across his hand, like a smooth flowing river. His eyes begin to close tighter, signaling his reawakening. Rise savior of Earth. The world needs you more than ever. He then opens his eyes, revealing a dark brown color, and then they turn a shade of red. “I’m back.”
  20. Avelic, though smiling on the outside, seethed internally. He hated dumb little get-togethers like this. Avelic never saw the point in them, preferring rather to enjoy the company of a good blade to sharpen. At least the cool, sharp metal is more interesting to be in the presence of than his gossiping, boisterous friends. He chuckled slightly at that last thought: friends was more than a bit of a stretch. Avelic would be generous to even call these imbeciles acquaintances. For a flitting second he thought of how nice it would be to plunge his trusty dagger Prudentia into one of their chests, just to prove a point. When this thought passed, Avelic was shocked at how his mind could turn to evil so fast. His reflections were short-lived, however, as they were rudely interrupted by a massive explosion originating from the courtyard fountain. The shockwave knocked the Matoran head over heels, leaving Avelic struggling to maintain consciousness. When he was able to see again, he saw blood. Lots of it. His immediate thought was that he was injured, but he realized that this blood was not his. It belonged to his only true friend present, a fellow Po-Matoran by the name of Jukanti, who had been crushed by a stone statue. Avelic retched at the gruesome sight. A realization soon came to his foggy mind that someone had bombed the party. That someone happened to emerge from the doorway to the estate, and seemed to be surveying the damage he had caused. The unnatural smile on the face of the bomber, a the Ko-Matoran called Ivuan, unnerved Avelic, who tried his best to play dead. When the bomber reached him, Avelic could tell by the long pause above his body that the bomber didn't buy his act. It was then that Avelic realized that he had left his dagger in the care of Jukanti, who was currently in quite a predicament involving a stone statue and his flattened carcass. As Ivuan stood over the Matoran, Avelic formulated a plan. Avelic, in a sudden burst of energy, caught his feet on Ivuan's upper leg armor. Avelic pulled with all his strength, reversing positions with his adversary. Ivuan's surprise was nearly tangible as Avelic snatched his dagger Prudentia from the grasp of Jukanti. "I may not have liked these people, but I assure you I despise you with all my heart. I can honestly say you deserved this."Suffice it to say the dagger found its mark.
  21. Welcome, one and all to the new forum postings of B+M=C! The old topic is right here.S2. Chapter 5: Bermuda TriangulatingIt was just another day, at least, as 'just another day'ish in a house you share with both family and living Bionicle sets. (And annoying ones, at that!)Anyways, as I was saying, it was just a regular day until Lewa got a Brain Shock. See, a Brain Shock is when Lewa actually uses his brain, which shocks us, so to speak. I was reading a book in my room, when suddenly, I heard random flushing noises from my bathroom. Gali was probably just playing in the toilet. AGAIN. I got up and stormed into the bathroom, finding not Gali, but Lewa, who was apparently trying to figure out how the toilet works. By taking it apart. Without turning off the water. I had to wade over to the toilet and slam the lid back on."LEWA!" I yelled. "WHAT are you DOING?!""Um, duh." He replied. "Taking the toilet apart. I see we're not fully loaded in the knowledge artillery compartment today, KliFfoRD kid.""Don't call me KliFfoRD!" I snapped. "You're messing around, while I'm reading up on places in the world where weird disturbances might be occuring because of a Toa Stone!""Down, boy. For your information, I had a Brain Shock while I was 'messing around'. There's probably a Nuva Stone in that weird area of the ocean where things keep disappearing, you know, the Hawiian Octagonapus or something?""The Bermuda Triangle.""Whatever.""Of course! Why didn't I think of that earlier?!""Well, some people just can't be as smart as me, I guess!"And then Lewa promptly slipped on the floor and fell flat on his face after doing 37 backflips, which is probably some kind of world record or something."Lewa, did you bump your head as a child or something?""63 times."-------------------------------------------------At the HQ of the Secret Tyrannical Undermining Posse In Destruction:Teridax: I'm sick and tired of those stupid Toa always being one step ahead of me! I mean, shouldn't I be some kind of awesome super manaical genius that has back up plans for my breakfast's back up plans?!Krika: That's just in the storyline, sir. Out here, you're something of a wimp.Teridax: Am not!Krika: Riiiiiight... Teridax: Where's Icarax? He was supposed to have my Dora The Explorer doll here an hour ago!Krika: *sigh*-----------------------------------------------Lewa was a bit nervous. Sure, going to the Bermuda Triangle was HIS idea, but he still wasn't very comfortable with water, and even less comfortable with the horrible idea of actually SWIMMING. It was like some kind of nightmare. Plus, plastic rusts easily. Or was that steel? As they piled into the van, KFRD punched in the coordinites and punched a new looking blue button that Lewa hadn't noticed before. There was the usual flash of purple as the time-space continuum bended, and then everything was blue. Well, not everything. Just everything outside of the van. He looked out the window, finding that the wheels were now functioning as propellers.But...But that meant...They were UNDERWATER!Lewa told himself to calm down. There was no way the van could really be underwater. Not even KFRD could airproof every nook and cranny of the van. That's when the shark swam by.----------------------------------------------On Mars:Martian 1: And so, I was THIS close to catching that Ditto, Eh, when-*far away scream*Martian 2: Sounds like some living Bionicle Toa of Air set is underwater, Eh?M1: Poor thing, Eh?M2: Eh.M1: Back to my Pokemon game, Eh?M2: Moo.----------------------------------------------I was trying to get Lewa to calm down. Not easy when you're stuck underwater in an Automarine."Cool it, Lewa! You're probably interrupting some poor martian talking about how that Ditto got away at the last second or something!""When I thought we were going to the Bermuda Triangle, I didn't think that we were going UNDERWATER!!"Well, where did you expect the stone to be? Honululu?!""Kinda...""Lewa, you're hopeless.""And you're about to pass right over the Nuva Stone! Look down!"I hit the brakes as fast as possible and glanced down. Sure enough, there it was!"Okay, Gali, time for you to do your stuff."I lifted up my seat, revealing the engine workings."Just jump into that tube, and you'll be able to climb out the exhaust pipe. Okay, go!"Gali jumped down the tube and I slammed down the seat to keep water from getting in. After she retrieved it, I started punching in the coordinates for home. As I was doing so, Lewa grabbed the bag holding the Nuva Stones and dropped the latest catch in."One more left, and we'll be rid of Makuta forever!""I wouldn't be so sure, Lewa. That guy's persistent.""You bet I am!"We whipped around to see none other than Makuta Teridax, evil wimp, floating in the air. Before we could react, he grabbed the Nuva Stones and teleported away.--------------------------------------------Lewa couldn't believe it. All that hard work for the stones, and Makuta just teleports in, grabs them, and teleports out. If he could get his hands on him, he would..."Hey, Lewa!" Pohatu shouted. "Cheer up! It's not like Makuta has ALL the stones. We just need to grab the last one, and we win, so it's no big deal!"Actually," Said KFRD "It IS a big deal. Get ready guys, the final battle is waiting!End chapter 5.Sorry it wasn't funnier, I'm working up to the 3-part season finale.
