  1. http://orig04.deviantart.net/5f3c/f/2016/267/0/1/g2_tohunga_makuta_by_mate397-daiqbsd.jpg Also got my BrickLink order that had the last pieces needed to make this little guy. And yes I commited some "heresy" as it's referred to, by painting the Hau and am armor addon (and yes I know the Star Wars Rouge One droid had that piece in black, but most likely it would be 3x more expensive than the silver or the other two colors) Comparison: http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Makuta-2001-2016-636124071 http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Makuta-From-Mask-Maker-to-Nothing-636124308 http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Makuta-From-Titan-to-Protector-636124657 And just a little something for the road https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26PRhCJtgPQ
  2. My entry to the Makuta contest on rebrick, didn't really feel like building a big edgy thing so I went with this instead. Don't forget to check out the Rebrick page.

  4. Hello everyone, My local high school is hosting an arts commission festival titled "Films in Five" where you had to create a video that runs 5 minutes or less. My entry for the event is a short adventure skit involving my favorite Toa of Ice, Kopaka. It took about 4 months to create (On and off), and it just got accepted into the festival and will be shown there on October 1st! I'm so excited for other people to see it, especially on the big screen! I wanted to share it with everyone on BZPower too. I hope you enjoy the film, and tell me what you think of it below!
  5. Seeing as JTO Makuta was a combiner model. I thought I'd take a crack at making a Makuta that used soley pieces from the purple sets. The sets used in this combiner are Protector of Earth Onua Master of Earth Skull Basher Terak Creature of Earth Onua Uniter of Earth Quake Beast Mask of Control from Umarak the Hunter. With that out of the way here are the pictures http://www.brickshel...or_makuta_1.jpg http://www.brickshel...or_makuta_2.jpg http://www.brickshel...or_makuta_3.jpg http://www.brickshel...or_makuta_4.jpg http://www.brickshel...or_makuta_5.jpg http://www.brickshel...or_makuta_6.jpg Comments and criticism appreciated
  6. Well, here is version 1.0 of my entry for the Makuta contest, as promised in http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/23064-a-question-for-my-compatriots/ NOTE: Some spoilers for the final episodes to Journey to One are contained in this post. https://www.flickr.com/photos/143590374@N03/albums/72157668915866814 Posted at Flickr since I can't figure out how to upload my photos to BZPower. As I'd stated in my previous thread, I noticed that most of the Makuta MOCs being produced for the Building Contest looked like variations on the Shadow Titan designs for Makuta of both G1 and G2 or other humanoid forms, usually with black, red, and gold being prominent colors. I wanted to get away from that for my entry, and had a thought: what if Makuta had mutated into a creature well suited to terrorize the Region of Stone? I also wanted to try producing a BIONICLE version of a creature that hadn't really been adapted into the mythos yet, and came up with a centipede. If you'll look it doesn't match the exact specifications, but hey, we're talking about a universe where bulls and tigers have a tread in place of back legs and where spiders can have four or six legs as opposed to eight. It's my first real attempt at a MOC, and I kinda just pieced together by cannibalizing various sets: Pohatu MataPohatu NuvaPahrakPahrak KalPanrahkZadakhOnewa MetruOnewa HordikaRoporakAvakCaraparVoroxZesk? (can't remember if I actually used any of its pieces in the end)Mata Nui (stole his unhelmeted Glatorian head to do blue eyes instead of red, a little nod to 2003 Teridax)Well, here it is, hope you like it, and don't hesitate to criticize or advise. I know I've got time left in which to enter, and I can use that time to improve this thing. Also, if anybody knows how to get photos uploaded direct to BZPower, I'd love to know. EDIT: Based on some of the feedback I received, I've tweaked the design somewhat-bulking up the body and moving some limbs around. New gallery for version 2.0 can be viewed here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/143590374@N03/albums/72157668994096123
  7. Hello! I would like to show you my own vision of the Fallen Mask Maker (pictures are clickable). In this design I wanted to include elements of Aztec and Mayan cultures. And my Makuta looks like the Gods or shamans of those times (Horned Helmet, Scull Amulet (hi, Scull Creatures!) and etc). Additionaly the Herald of Solar Eclipse have any elements of the Okotan culture (Golden Armor, elemental crystal Hammer, etc). As other Masters of Elements, Makuta has his own elemental creature, Kraven (from "Kra-" (matoran stem "elemental shadow") and "raven"). Thanks for taking a look and may shadow be with you!
  8. Makuta: Consumed By Light The Toa shattered at his feet, Makuta plucks the Mask from Ekimu's feeble grasp. Victory all but achieved, a soft laugh escapes as he dons his long-sought prize. And yet, gloating turns to fear. A cry escapes as the Mask's light surges down. Makuta's final moment is consumed by the realization that the Mask is far greater than he. Toa Gali's words echo from the distant past: "You wanted our power, monster. Now let us see if you can handle it." → Rebrick Entry ← Don't forget to give it a like! Click to zoom My concept is a take on a classic Bionicle theme--the destiny of good to triumph over evil, captured in the pivotal moment when Makuta's arrogance is overcome, and the Mask's light begins to wash down over him. The total build + photoshoot took about 2 weeks. All feedback and critique is welcome! It's been about 5 years since I last MOC'd; good to be back.
  9. My final entry into the Makuta contest. Inspired by The Reborn One from Bloodborne and Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist, I wanted to create a create a monstrous form of Makuta. Not only did I want to show him with all the masks he's collected, but I wanted him to have a body created from the many skull villains and other unfortunate victims he may have absorbed over the years living in the Shadow Realm. Hope you like, and leave your constructive criticism below. -SK
  10. LEGO was kind enough to provide us with detailed models of the JTO model so that it should be easy enough to build it now; at some point I might myself go and create step-by-step instructions, but this will more than suffice. On my Flickr Courtesy of LEGO (obviously), credit to the designers: Nicolaas Vás (Brickthing), Corvin Stichert (Vezok's Friend) and Niek van Slagmaat (who I believe took the photos, so an extra thanks!)
  11. "You were expecting something else? Something like... THIS!?" When Makuta is on the brink of defeat, the Mask of Ultimate Power transforms him into a disembodied vortex of shadows and elemental energy. With nothing left but his Mask of Control and the desire for revenge, Makuta uses this form to lash out at the Toa and Ekimu in his final moments. This depiction of Makuta is inspired by Makuta's final form in the Mata Nui Online Game. It was created for the Makuta Challenge on Lego Rebrick. My brother Aanchir assisted me with this MOC. 12. Here’s my entry to the Rebrick “Show Us Your Makuta” contest - Makuta: Brute of Shadow! This model features a swivelling waist and swinging arms, both controlled via the knobs on his back. Entry page (give it a like!)

  14. Yet another Rebrick Makuta submission... "Come one, come all, to the Shadow Realm! The legendary theatre of the Dark Prince himself is open all night, every night! Playing classics such as Hukio and Makuilette, Much Prophecy About Nothing and Onuaello, this is the place to be!" Upon realizing that his brother, Ekimu, is the superior mask maker, Makuta, instead of succumbing to jealousy, turned to the performing arts. Assuming a new identity, he gained fame as a skilled street magician, where he also befriended a small cat-like being that originated from the region of ice. The duo travelled all over Okoto, become renowned and respected. Eventually, Makuta returned to the capital and opened his own theatre, called "The Shadow Realm", of which he was the director. His troop was known for using makeup instead of masks to better resemble their characters during performances, due to Makuta's lingering spite for his brother. However, while on the surface it would seem that Makuta got his act together, The Shadow Realm became known for more than just the fantastic performances - it's backstage area became the hub of the Okoto underground. Every illegal deal, every bribery, every contract killing could be traced back to the dressing rooms of The Shadow Realm. Many theorized that Makuta was not just a theatre director, but the kingpin of an organised crime syndicate. And Makuta was quite the dapper fellow indeed, if I do say so myself. Appearing in only the finest suits, his kitten, whose name he never reveals to anyone, always well groomed, Makuta was the model gentleman - a point he punctuated with his pure ivory cane, topped with a quaint topaz. Many said the face carved into the stone was of hypnotizing beauty, though that effect might have more to do with ancient power, and the reason why Makuta managed to bend so many to his will... While the limbs are pretty standard on this build, his torso is entirely custom. I'm pretty sure this won't win anything due to size and simplicity, but I submitted it nonetheless to break up the endless stream of shadow-titans. 15. Let me just begin this by saying that yes, this is the same Model I have entered into the Makuta Contest. Please Inform me if there are any Issues with the Pictures or the Post Itself, Thank You. MAKUTA TERIDAX: REAPER OF DARKNESS This Model took me Four Days to make. On day One I started off with the Torso. On day Two I went on to work with the Arms. Then on day Three I went to work on the waist and upper legs. Finally on day Four I worked on the lower legs and feet. The MOC Altogether Stands at more than Two Feet Tall from Head to Toe, and more than a Foot Across from Shoulder to Shoulder. And, is by far the Tallest MOC I have Built to Date. Now on Day Five the MOC is Done, here is the Finished Model. Main Pose Blaster Pose Hand Pose Front Right Back Left
  16. As you can probably guess with the surge of Makuta MOCs going up on here, this is going to be one of those in the rebrick contest. Even though I have no chance of winning and he has the generic black/red bad guy look to him, and at least 3/4 people do not like him, I made him anyway and I'm going to share him. What I wanted to go for with him was to make him have the sort of feel the original Makuta had while bringing in something new. So naturally, the original Makuta was a huge inspiration to making this, along with Takutanuva and Karzahni. In addition to trying to have the same sort of spirit as the original Makuta, he's also made up of my trio of Makuta MOCs from back in 2008, who did not really make it past this year thanks to time and broken old parts. So I went and took some of the best aspects of them and put them towards this MOC, so you can say while they're not around today, at least they sort of live on here. So some notes on him. The Prototype version as I call him isn't much of anything, but you can see where I'm sort of going with him. He's small and plain-looking, but that's because I was trying to get a feel of where I was going with him. And Hodge Podge makes a cameo appearance. By now, my MOCs by the names of Norenka, Atheron, and Zartross have gone into him. Atheron's hands and some armor have gone into him. Is staff will later be broken down and incorporated into this MOC much later. Mk. .V (0.5) is closer to the final version, but still looking more bare and lacking. He's much taller now, he has the sort of animalistic legs going for him, and he's now taken a modified version of Norenka's spinning blade staff and a modified version Zartross' shield. The guy who inspired him makes a cameo appearance. Mk. I is what my final product. More armored up and looks imposing. Don't even ask me what the daggers at his collar are there for. Takutanuva and Black Phantom had stuff like that, so why not Makuta? His first gear gimmick allows him to swing his right arm. I almost made it swing both arms, but considering how heavy the shield is, I decided against it. Also, it made more sense he'd be swinging that staff around and holding the shield for defense. His second gear gimmick is carried from Norenka and inspired by Roodaka with how the blades on the staff spin around when turned. Good enough for trying to knock masks off, I thought. He's also got a lot of spikes and jagged edges around him to make him look sort of skeletal and imposing. He has armor almost everywhere to add mass, as well as skirt armor to move along with his legs. He's also got Zartross' feet. Mk. II built on what I liked about Mk. I while adding minor details to him. To give him more of a ruler of the underworld feel, I went with the inspiration of another ruler of the underworld from Bionicle lore and gave him chains on his arms, replacing the Bohrok eyes that now rest at his arm blades. He's also got more tubes on him like the set of Karzahni that wrap around to his back. And I changed the arrangement of some of his armor around to make him a little more cohesive. I personally thought he looked fine. Even my mom liked the way he looked (and she's always hated how most of the official sets look), but he seems to be generally hated amongst those I show him to. So while I may not win, I at least had fun making him and I'm personally fine with him. He does what I wanted him to accomplish, and that was to invoke Makuta Teridax. And they actually look good standing side by side together. Like a proud papa next to his mini-Hulk son. He also sort of compliments Umarak the Hunter pretty well (in my eyes, anyway). I have yet to obtain the Destroyer. Anyways, enjoy? The last time I said that, I got 3 dislikes and only one like on a video. So I guess if you like him, enjoy him. If you don't... there's at least five better MOCs in here of the same concept, so you can go look at those. I'll probably be posting other MOCs later on. This is the first one I've posted to here in years. 17. So, amid a ton of extremely impressive builds by MOCists on this site, this is my entry for the Makuta building contest on ReBrick. Backstory: In an alternate universe, upon realizing that Ekimu was the superior mask maker, Makuta, instead of creating the Mask of Ultimate Power, turned his efforts elsewhere. He left the City of the Mask Makers and travelled to the Region of Earth. However, instead of delving into its many tunnels, he remained on the unpopulated surface, and sought out the highest peak. To test his own resolve, he endeavored to hollow out the mountain with his bare hands. Such gruelling physical work greatly strengthened his skeletal structure and increased his muscle mass, leaving him significantly larger and taller than his former, feeble form. After setting up a forge in his new lair, he first created a large, sacred hammer with two silver faces. He then vowed to craft weapons instead of masks, and to forge without rest until one of the faces of his new hammer dulls so that it does not shine. He first created a large suit of armor, and weaved crystal with steel. He then forged weapons day and night, blades and hammers of the finest quality. While Ekimu was a master of decor and pomp, Makuta was practical. Instead of using gems and gold, he wrought iron and steel. Ekimu might make the most beautiful golden masks and glass shields, but his creations would shatter if met but Makuta's blades. Makuta replaced his Mask of Control with the last mask he ever created - the mask of Shadows. It was his last ditch effort to best his brother, by weaving the power of the shadows themselves into a mask, instead of relying on an element. While his previous masks were simply less popular, this creation caused true controversy. The people of Okoto petitioned him to destroy the mask. This was what tipped him to abandon the craft of Mask Making. Though he now bears the Mask of Shadows, he kept his old Mask of Control as a reminder. Whenever he desired rest, whenever he tired, he would look at it and forge on. Over the years, a few villagers, outcasts from their villages, happened upon his iron fortress. As kindred souls, they pledged themselves to the Weapon Maker. Makuta forged ever more, producing enough weapons to arm all the souls on Okoto twice over and still have many to spare. Each was unique, and entirely deadly. Eventually, the last sliver of silver was chipped off his hammer. This is when he knew that the time has come. Turning his hammer over to its untouched side, he declared that while the other face forged and crafted metal, this one shall taste bone and blood. With his group of well armed followers, Makuta strode forth from his iron fortress, and craved a warpath to the City of the Mask Makers. Those who stood in his way brandished the golden swords and elaborate gemstone armor made by Ekimu. Though their equipment looked impeccable, the tempered iron and steel weapons of Makuta tore through them with ease. Finally, at the gate of the city, Makuta challenged Ekimu to single combat. The Mask Maker emerged in his larger, light-infused form, however even that was not enough to stand against the sheer force of Makuta.Though his conquest was bloody, the reign of Emperor Makuta was not one of tyranny. He was a strong leader who punished those who deserved it with severity and cruelty, however his iron fist struck down all threats to his people. While during the time of Ekimu, the Okotoans valued the luxury and decor of decadence, under Makuta, progress and strength were considered greater virtues. It was not long before the armies of Okoto, armed with iron and steel, would set forth to conquer other lands beyond the sea... I tried to take an unconventional approach to building my Makuta. The vast majority of entries were black/gold/purple/red CCBS titans that were basically variations of the JtO Makuta build. Sure, there are a few more originals ones out there than mine, but I opted for an atypical color scheme for Makuta, as well as a different backstory. While the weapon-racks and anvil probably won't be taken into account by the judges, it felt good to add some decor that emphasised Makuta's transfer to the craft of weapon making. Including the fingers, the set has 21 points of articulation, plus two unused ones holding the blades on his back. The set uses no illegal connections, no cut or modified pieces or anything else out of order. 18. Here is my 2nd entry for the Rebrick Makuta Contest. V1 Bigger and better, this is my second entry for the Rebrick Makuta contest. This version bears a staff/mace as apposed to my last entry's "Hammer of Glory" V2 Bulked up arms, more armor on back, cape(s), and extended weapon... Images found in spoiler tag. (warning, there are quite a few) Version 2 (small adjustments to build) LDD MOUP: http://www.us.lego.com/en-us/gallery/192a4eaf-2491-4a13-8b80-ea5747239994?index=1 Feel free to use this design on your entries. 19. So, today come to me parts from lego for my version of small Makuta. Gallery: http://imgur.com/a/tZfRa
  20. Yes, you read that right. Mask of Ultimate Power. TLG's way of ending BIONICLE without releasing the MoUP felt wrong, so I decided to fix that. Consider this my way of giving BIONICLE a proper send-off. You can get your own mask here: http://shpws.me/MuFX
  21. Hi all Let me preface this by saying I used to be a very active member of this community, I went by the name's of tehuttinuva, vorkan Hordika, and I think originally takuma. Unsurprisingly I can't remember my old details (it was over five years ago!). So hi all! I'm finally selling off my old collection, and quite cheaply, I just want to make space, so I thought I'd share the link here to in case any of you find something you've been after. All the best to you all. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html/?_saslop=1&_sasl=arshad4114
  22. While I was building my entry for the Makuta contest, I decided to actually build the MOUP using system pieces. It isn't perfect but it stands in well. I've thought about it for a while and decided to share the LDD file. Feel free to use this design on your own Makuta entry if you like. http://www.us.lego.com/en-us/gallery/192a4eaf-2491-4a13-8b80-ea5747239994?index=1 (may still be pending) Edit: While we wait for part of LEGO's staff to approve the post in the gallery, here are some pictures. (note I had to leave the mask on the left in the file, even though it isn't the final design, because the file wouldn't upload if I deleted it) If you find a way to improve the design, please share it with the rest of us, thanks. I wish everyone the best of luck in the contest and may the best MOC win. Update: Added eyes as suggested by Master Inika. Eyes are held in by the spikes (tested with physical bricks and it works).
  23. Here is my entry for the Rebrick Makuta Contest. http://www.lego.com/en-us/rebrick/view-entry?c_id={00A66255-0F67-490B-97E3-3FCD9CF12314}&a_id=050c1743-4a67-48af-bd32-addd11c0523e&nse=true I already have all the g2 sets, so I am doing this for my brother. 24. So I'm looking to enter the Makuta Building Contest, and as I've been looking at entries so far it seems like the general approach is variations of either the Shadow Titan look, the Mask Maker look, or something Toa like. I'd like to make an entry-which I will post here-that differs from the norm. I'm planning something non-humanoid, and am thinking I'll really go out there by utilizing pieces from brown and tan colored Bionicle sets, which have the history of being the least popular for cosmetic value. I'll be posting it here in addition to on Rebrick. So what do y'all think? Am I inspired by the same muse as the great Hafu the Carver, or I am more lost than Protector Nilkuu in the Region of Jungle?
  25. [Flickr Album] Throughout his incarnations, Makuta has always been a failed ruler, secretly coveting the admiration he was never qualified to receive. Here, he has succeeded; King Makuta, fierce defender of the people of Okoto, even at the small expense of their liberty. Freedom is a dangerous thing. Kneel to the crown. Been working on this guy for about a month for the Rebrick contest (technically I had a head start, but I'm going on vacation, so sue me =P). Haven't MoC'd with physical bricks since... 2010, I want to say, so a solid six years. Before CCBS. Pretty pleased with how it turned out, all things considered; there's stuff I could blather on about, but my favorite part is the crown, which was the original design impetus and took a while to get right, but just clicked in the end. Criticism, questions, critiques, etc. always welcome. Yes my photography is atrocious.
