  1. From what we've seen in the recent story videos, the islanders aren't exactly characters. Sure, we have the young villager who has been widely celebrated for his cuteness, but the islanders are still, quite literally, copy-paste characters. If the story team wants to diversify the island and culture of Okoto, they should pay some attention to the islanders. Now, I'm not saying that every single islander should have a different personality, body-build and mask design, but rather just make them matter in the Okoto society by giving a handful of them names and occupations. It'll work as well as it did on the island of Mata Nui, trust me. I don't have very much to offer up, so tell me what you think.
  2. Hello everyone! MrBT here also known as MrBoltTron from YouTube and flickr and TheBoltTron from devintART and before the beginning of 2015, here are my own redesigned Toa Okoto (Mata) team. As you're going to see they are basically based on rebooted Bionicle characters. This project took about two months to create them following up 2015 Toa designs Criticism are welcomed! 3. The Island of Mata Nui was home to many kinds of animals. There were the impressive 2001 Rahi sets like the Muaka and the Tarakavas, but there were also other beasts like Mahi goats, Gukko birds, Takea sharks, Kofo-Jaga, Ussal crabs, and all manner of miscellaneous critters. So far, the only wildlife we've seen from Okoto in set form are the various Skull Spider breeds and the Lord of Skull Spiders. However, there are signs of other creatures; the website entry for the Region of Jungle mentions "savage wildlife" and the picture of the Water Tribe village has fish in it. What beasts do you expect or hope to see on Okoto?
  4. Way back when I first joined BZPower, I had a popular topic called MNOG Findings pointing out possible theories based on little details seen in the Mata Nui Online Game. A few of them turned out to be right, most weren't (esp. because we later learned the MNOG designers rarely consulted the story team), but it was a fun process to go through at the least. So now I was watching the videos for Generation 2 that we have so far, and I noticed several little things. It reminded me of that, so I thought of making this topic. I was going to type out the transcripts as part of this, but wouldn't have had time this year, and thankfully fishers64 has provided them for the Legend video and the first three animations. The lines in bold for the first three are quoted from that topic. I have also included the brief transcript of the Masks of Power trailer at the end of this post (lines in bold again). I'm commenting on the CG promo vid briefly and the individual Toa promos, but haven't bothered with transcripts for those. (Bold is used for section headers there instead.) I'm presuming here that the reader is already familiar with a few of the already much-discussed findings like the Vahi 'easter eggs'. The focus here is on things not much discussed yet, although some common theories are mentioned and possible evidence pro/con discussed. There's also some theories of my own (but if somebody else happened to think of it already and maybe mention it somewhere I missed, no theft intended lol). The Legend: A long time ago in the on the mythical island of Okoto, all lived in harmony. It was a place of wonders and beautiful landscapes. Mythical? This raises major questions, but all might miss the point as this word might just be there to help give a more fantasy feel to Generation 2 versus the more sci-fi feel of Generation 1, or to balance the sci-fi feel that will naturally be gotten from seeing (apparent) robots and passenger pods from space just in Gen 2. The emphasis on harmony and a place of wonders also evokes the Gen 1 in-story myth that the Turaga created as a protective lie to keep the Matoran from trying to return to Metru Nui. But whether this is meant to imply anything for Gen 2, it's too early to tell. It could be that in this incarnation, they wanted to bring what was a lie in Gen 1 (or metaphor that was partly true) into full reality for Gen 2, basically. From the island's elemental forces, two brothers, known as the Mask makers, created masks of Power. The elemental forces, used in the masks, come from the island itself? This may give evidence that Gen 2 actually uses something that for Gen 1 Mata Nui Island was a fan theory that was never confirmed; that the elemental regions are different from each other not so much for natural wind direction or elevation based reasons but from actual elemental energies casting a sort of spell over the six regions. And we see a re-use of the idea of two powerful brothers from Gen 1. This time it may be literal; they seem to simply be titans, and there's evidence elsewhere of biological descent or something like it with the Protectors. So these important titans, the maskmakers, might be literal brothers. This wording is also interesting to the question of how masks other than Mask of Fire, Mask of Water, etc. are made. There's a law (mentioned a few lines down from here) that no two elemental powers could be contained in one mask, but this line makes it sound like all mask powers are made from the six elemental forces of the island. This could be reading too much into it. But if so, maybe you can MIX elements to make a single new power, OR choose to have MULTIPLE elemental powers in one mask. If the latter, then it seems implied the Mask of Ultimate Power (read on if unfamiliar) is a Mask that controls all six elements at once, or a "Mask of Fire, Water, Ice, Jungle, Stone, and Earth". Each brother had a special mask. Makuta owned the Mask of Control, and Ekimu the Mask of Creation. "Special" mask. That could mean simply that some masks aren't taken from the island's elemental forces. Or it could mean it's special to mix powers (getting a single new power, similar to the Kanoka mixture system of Gen 1), and normal to just make one of the six elemental masks. If the latter, and based on the interesting twist that unlike Gen 1, Tahu Toa of Fire has a Mask of Fire (not Mask of Shielding), it's possible the maskmakers' main job on Okoto was to make lesser elemental masks for the Protectors and maybe villagers. But... we just don't know enough to be sure of these details. It's also possible something like Gen 1's Legendary system exists here, so these two could be special in that way. That would especially make sense for the Mask of Creation, but I tend to think Gen 2 dispenses with that complexity. This would be a question I'd be especially interested to see answered soon. The brothers provided the islanders with many masks, but Ekimu's were the most treasured. Note that the idea that I saw at least one person post, that these two maskmakers didn't make the islanders' masks, is clearly wrong. This doesn't have to mean the islanders' masks have powers. They might be like Matoran and need the masks to stay conscious... or something. We just don't know. There could be evidence in the "most treasured" line for something about the mask shape we see apparently universally on the Protector and villager faces. The lower half of it resembles the lower half of the Mask of Creation, which Ekimu wore. Perhaps that means Ekimu made all of those masks, and the ones Makuta made are just stored somewhere and rarely worn? His brother became envious and forged an evil plan. It was a sacred law that a mask could never contain the power of more than one element. Otherwise it would become too strong, and dangerous. This scene shows evidently mined materials being stored in the background, including purple crystals that are later seen floating in the air in an Onua scene. This seems to imply special substances are found across the island that contain elemental powers and these are used in maskmaking. (Including something we could theoretically call Earth Crystals, for example.) This could be relevant because of the emphasis on "pure gold" of the Mask of Creation. Maybe this implies its power doesn't come from a mixture at all but from a rare material other than the more common six elemental materials. The substance called gold in this mythology could simply have the 'element' of creation. We don't know if all mask powers are considered elemental in Gen 2, but it's possible, and there could be any number of rarer elements. Or, maybe some powers come from materials but aren't considered elements. But Makuta wanted to create the strongest mask of all time. The Mask of Ultimate Power. When Makuta put it on, it took control over him, and the island began to shake and crumble. Some have theorized that the MoUP is the Vahi (Mask of Time), but this does not support that idea. It sounds more like the above interpretation of a Mask of Six Elements. The hammering scene also clearly shows Makuta being lit up by six colors in sequence, matching the six colors used in several other places in these vids for the Toa's six elements. The Mask of Time is probably a different mask more akin to the Mask of Creation (both of those were Legendary Masks in Gen 1, after all.) The island shaking could be from Makuta's inability to control multiple elements at once, so at least the Stone and Earth elements probably went wild, breaking up the island's bedrock and soil layers. Realizing what his brother had done, Ekimu managed to knock the mask from Makuta's face. A shockwave rolled across the land, and sent both brothers into an endless sleep. The source of this shockwave is unclear -- a power of Ekimu's staff, or a result of the impact with the MoUP? It could perhaps be Makuta losing control at the last second of the Fire part of the MoUP (maybe just the heat part?) because he was distracted by the sight of the hammer swinging at him, or the impact itself. Or it might be energy flowing between his mind and the mask, similar to a scene in Mask of Light (Gen 1) where electric energy seemed to arc between Makuta's mask and his face when Takanuva tried to pry the mask off. I'm thinking something other than the Fire explanation, as the brothers don't seem to have been even partially melted. Either way, the animation depicts the energy explosion as powerful enough to be easily seen on the "view from space" of the island, so it's apparently a wonder they survived at all. The masks were scattered all over the island, waiting for a time when someone would come looking for them. Note the passive voice here -- were scattered. At first I assumed this meant the explosion itself knocked the other masks away, but it could also mean the Protectors hid the masks to keep them protected from enemies (like the Skull Spiders). If they were knocked away, somebody or something must explain the pedestals placed under them; probably either way it's the Protectors. It seems simpler to suggest that the Protectors hid them rather than having to find them. Or the pedestals just might be something that manifests magically, "automatically." -------------------------------------------------- 01 The Prophecy of Heroes: NARRATOR: On the mythical island of Okoto, ancient masks of power were hidden away, for only the strongest to find and claim. There's that mythical line again, plus "hidden away" seems to support the above theory that the masks weren't knocked away by the explosion. But an enemy was rising, growing stronger by the minute, searching for the masks. These lines bring up an interesting question of whether anybody who physically reaches the hiding places of the masks can just swipe the masks off their pedestals, or if there's some kind of protective spell cast by the pedestals. At least one of the Golden Mask animations in Episode 3 seems to have the Lord of the Skull Spiders already present at a mask and guarding it from the Toa, rather than it simply being a race to be the first to the mask. The "growing stronger" wording may suggest they didn't yet have enough of a magical power to get past this spell, and Toa do, but they soon would. Such a spell might be related to the power of the Protectors' masks; maybe the pedestals are tied into that power, or something. But even if this is so, it seems that at story start the Skull Spiders hadn't actually yet found the masks, or not all/most of them. Desperately, the Protectors gathered in the most sacred place, the Temple of Time. Reciting what was known as the Prophecy of Heroes, they sent their prayers to the sky. Now we see time playing a role besides the Vahi easter eggs; it's confirmed in-story. And given central importance. What relationship this has to prayers is unclear. Perhaps it has something to do with destiny and timing; the pendulum in the temple was 'ticking' away time to when the Toa were destined to come? The prophecy was whispered the Protectors a long time ago when they found the lifeless body of Ekimu, the mask maker, and laid him to rest. This seems to imply Ekimu may have a spirit nature beyond his physical form. This could evidence that the spirit of Makuta may be actively behind the Skull Spiders, or at least have also "whispered" something to spiders at the time just before both beings fell into total comas. PROTECTOR OF FIRE: Hear now, O my son, what the prophecy says: More evidence of biological descent, although terms like brother were nonliteral in Gen 1, so who knows. When times are dark and all hope seems lost, the Protectors must unite, one from each tribe, invoke the power of past and future, and look to the skies for an answer. Does this imply there may be more than one Protector in each tribe? I would presume not, though, unless we learn otherwise. More interesting is again how time is related to asking for help. Here's it's called an actual power. A power of what? The Temple? A combination of six elements? (Possibly supporting the Vahi = MoUP theory.) When the stars align, six comets will bring timeless heroes to claim the Masks of Power and find the Mask Maker. Fascinating association of the coming of the Toa now not only with time, but timelessness, and even stars aligning. (This brings up a question about what is meant by stars, by the way; the graphics used along with this seem more like planets, complete with Saturnian rings for one of them, but in ancient times on Earth, the terms for stars were often used for planets too; they were known as wandering stars.) Very mysterious. United, the six elements hold the power to defeat evil. United, but not one. These two sentences seem to go back to supporting the theory that fusing the six elements into one power is evil and isn't related to time. I think we need insight into whether there was an earlier event that the Temple of Time is all about, perhaps a societal founding event? If so, then I would not see the time references as directly related to the MoUP events, and the Vahi is likely a separate mask. NARRATOR: It was the power of this prophecy that made six elemental heroes to rain down upon Okoto. Who they really were remained a mystery. But it was their destiny to defeat evil and save the island. Here we have a confirmation that destiny plays a role, at least in an out-story sense. But it seems confirmed somehow in-story with all this connection between time and conscious will; the power of the prophecy itself is what summons the heroes. That could be nonliteral, though; the prophecy motivated the Protectors to activate a power of summoning at the apppointed time. Unclear for now. -------------------------------------------------------- 02 The Arrival: NARRATOR: A bright light fell from the sky above the island of Okoto, crashing into the ground like a burning rock. The wise Protector led the local villagers to a crater of fire. They held their breath as a figure stepped out of the flames. It seems unclear in this portrayal whether there actually is a space-pod, or perhaps magical elemental forces surround them, and/or whatever contains them may burn up on descent through the atmosphere. The Toa are sold in boxes, unlike the Gen 1 canisters. How they land safely, even though there's a crater, is also left unclear; in Gen 1 they landed in the ocean so it was easily understandable. Perhaps this time they are fully robotic and of a sort that can enter atmospheres unaided. Do they breathe, if so? Who knows. TAHU: O where am I? Who am I? This mirrors Gen 1 in that the Toa Mata had forgotten their past. See a comment a few lines down though. But in Gen 1, the canisters landed in the ocean a thousand years before the Toa were summoned, and the forgetting was due to the canisters malfunctioning (they weren't supposed to need summoning); that time stuck in the canisters basically made them rot. This time we clearly see that they land and right away they're active. So this might not be memory loss; it could be that they're something like the heroes of Hero Factory; manufactured and sent, with no memories because they're brand new beings, though that "timeless" line may imply something more. Although this impact made a crater, and Gen 1 also has precedent for hard impacts that aren't fatal resulting in memory loss (Takua at the end of the GBA game, just before MNOG starts). PROTECTOR OF FIRE: You are Tahu, the Master of Fire. You have been sent to us. A promo line in the Tahu commercial later seems to imply a contradiction of this line. Here, Master seems to be used as a synonym of Toa, and it's applied immediately. But in the promo, he says that when he collects his Golden Mask, he will become the Master of Fire. In that wording it seems more like a "full potential" thing. I'm not sure what to make of this, but the sets are labeled Masters without the Golden Masks, so I'm thinking this line is more canon. TAHU: What are you talking about? Why would I be sent here? PROTECTOR: An evil is rising. And you are here to defeat it. NARRATOR: Tahu looked around the villagers. His head held many questions, but no memory of who he was or what he was capable of. In Gen 1, they retained something like "muscle memory" of how to use their powers, both elemental and mask. However, I wouldn't make too much of this, as that memory was more subconscious than conscious. They didn't necessarily "have memory" of what they were capable of; the first comic portrays Kopaka gradually recalling how it worked over time for example. TAHU: Me? What do I know about defeating evil? PROTECTOR: It has been foretold that one day six heroes, the Toa, would arrive and go on a quest for golden masks to unlock each of their great powers. I wouldn't make too much of the term "great" here, but the animation shown for Kopaka after he gets this looks a lot like the Gen 1 power of Shielding (Tahu's Kanohi Hau). Do they unlock extra powers with the Golden Masks? Or was that just meant to be a cage of ice he makes? TAHU: How do you know- [VILLAGERS behind THE PROTECTOR OF FIRE reel in fear.] TAHU: Was it something I said? PROTECTOR: No, it's those Skull Spiders behind you! [sKULL SPIDERS attack TAHU. TAHU successfully fends them off.] [upon seeing this, the VILLAGERS gasp and bow before TAHU.] TAHU: Umm...mmm...ohh. PROTECTOR: Do you still doubt your destiny, Tahu? Come with me, we have no time to waste! --------------------------- 03 Quest for the Golden Masks: NARRATOR: Legend told that one day, six heroes would make it through the dangerous parts of the island, and claim the masks to unlock their true powers. Interesting wording. The powers they have before the Golden masks aren't their "true" powers? What could this mean? Probably again just a full potential type thingamabob. But I can't help but wonder if more Gen-1-esque mask powers might be involved. And note that we still don't know if the Toa have elemental powers on their own without the masks here. It could be something like 1/3 power with no mask, 2/3 with mask, 3/3 with Gold. Or just highly skilled uses with the Gold. Lewa, Toa of Jungle, was cutting through thick woodlands. We know well by now that he's called a Toa of Jungle, but it's interesting that I haven't seen a clear portrayal of him controlling plants yet. There's a lot of flying, though, which makes it seem more like his Gen 1 element of Air. However, in the handshake scene in the Legend vid, in addition to the "Earth Crystals", there's something that looks like spiky vines, and if that whole theory about elemental materials being used in mask powers is right that's at least a little in-story evidence of the Jungle element being literal. And in the open of the Lewa scene here, the apparent distance between where Lewa is hanging from a vine and the leaves blocking the camera's view of him may be more than the reach of his sword, so this might be a case of his using elemental power. Or it might be comic-book physics standing in for a machete swipe. The sun burned Pohatu, Toa of Stone, as he fought his way across desert dunes. Kopaka, Toa of Ice, was striding through raging blizzards. KOPAKA: Oof. I didn't slip. NARRATOR: The river was a fast way for Gali, Toa of Water, while Onua, Toa of Earth, was clawing his way through solid rock. Interesting choice of words in that last bit. Toa of Earth clawing through solid rock? Methinks we can expect the same confusions among fans between Earth and Stone from Gen 2 we got in G1 (assuming the distinctions are even the same here... and it actually seems like they aren't; "Stone" seems to include sand this time -- in G1 sand was excluded from both of those elements and was between them). May also be worth noting that the animated version of Onua's "claws" doesn't really look like claws (no fingers on them anyways). On the plus side, the G2 version is much clearer than the original that his normal hands are holding something, rather than not having normal hands. PROTECTOR OF FIRE: Tahu, Toa of Fire, this is Okoto's greatest volcano. You are close now. Note that the images so far seem to show three noticeable short volcanos, and a single central volcano. I presume this is the central one. Unless that actually isn't a volcano. (G1 did have Mount Ihu which was the highest peak and not a volcano.) But reaching your goal does not mean the end of danger. Far from it. Know this, Tahu - the shadows of the shrines hold stronger enemies than you could ever imagine. Be brave. Be strong. Believe in your destiny. So the pedestals are called shrines (Suva were called that in G1 too), and this wording seems to lend credence to the theory that the shrines actually protect the masks from the enemies somehow. This wording also gives hope that special elite villains beyond the Lord of the Skull Spiders may in in store, but the animations seem to debunk that, as they're shown getting the masks without much special trouble. The lineup of speech to animation slides also shows normal Skull Spiders along with this enemies line, which doesn't make much sense but there it is. Possibly just the animators trying to make the same baddies the Toa encounter from the start seem dramatic due to likely not having any extra bad guys allowed for set reasons. Now the CG video: When the LoSS steals the Mask of Creation, a cloud of dark fog/smoke comes up behind him. Mere dramatic effect? Or something storyline-related? My first guess is to extend that theory of a spell of some sort on the shrines, and taking the mask unleashes this. But it could just be representative of Makuta being empowered by a servant of his (presumably?) holding such a powerful mask. Who knows? Okay now the really fascinating part. Kopaka is clearly shown coming to a stop midair in a leap, seemingly telekinetically. Mere noncanon artistic license? Probably... but if not, that opens up tons of exciting potential -- perhaps Gen 2 Toa have self-telekinetic powers. But we can't be sure at all of this from a set-style video. There are a few scenes that seem to add support to the idea in the Toa promo vids, but unsure if they're meant to be taken literally. Kopaka vid: Most important observation: his Gold Mask shrine is by far the most awesome of the six depicted in these vids. *ahem* Well, interestingly the same sort of energy crackling effect seen with the Mask of Creation is shown around the Golden mask while it's on its shrine. I'd previously assumed that was inherent to the MoC, but this may imply it's part of the hovering over the shrine thing (or maybe protective spell theory or something). It disappears when he collects it, but a bright light is shown when he puts it on his face. This vid zooms away at two crucial moments so the timing of that is a little hard to tell. Looks like the crackling stops when he retrieves the mask, and the bright glow happens when the mask is on his face. Then all such special effects end, and the mask is just worn. Until a few seconds later at the end of a slide, when the tool seems to change. I'm unsure if that's just meant as the Toa taking out their weapons and switching them to an "attack really powerful bad guy" mode or if it's meant as the tool getting upgraded in connection with the Golden Mask. All the vids have a showdown start (and the vid cuts off) with the LoSS. (Or A LoSS? More than one? Or does he travel a lot?) And there's the things mentioned earlier; "become the Master of Ice" (I guess that's repeated in all six promo vids), and the geometric shield bubble thingy. Which really looks like energy rather than ice. It is also shown definitely deflecting some Skull Spiders, so it's not just decoration; it's a shield of some kind. Lewa: Again, no real indication of Jungle control. Narration mentions roaming the sky... still seems more Air-focused. It seems implied he unlocked "green-glowy sword effect" of indeterminate usefulness. And this time the LoSS shows up BEFORE the mask is collected. This one could be taken as a race to the mask (the Kopaka one looks like the spiders were heading that way but were later than in the Lewa one), but it could also be guarding. Another nice note is that the confusion over his name's pronunciation from G1 seems to have been erased. It's LEE-wuh, matching the LEE pronunciation of the prefix of Le-Matoran, not LAY-wuh or LOO-wuh. Gali: It seems like she unlocks a special Tool-based power that mimics that one Nokama waterskiing vid from 2004. The Spiders seem to be guarding the mask this time, but they ARE shown appearing on scene moments before, so maybe not. Onua: Now things get shaken up. Here we see both a grayish rock and the purple crystals hovering midair in this cavern. And the LoSS seems almost clearly to be guarding the mask this time (he's sitting on this hovering rock, seemingly waiting for Onua to collect his mask and then attack). We DO see the Skull Spiders climbing the pillar toward the mask, though, so this could just be an illusion of timing. On the other hand, they attack Onua when he puts the mask on his face. That could go either way; are they climbing originally just to attack him? Or to steal the mask? Despite the LoSS looking like a guard here, I think we still have enough evidence from earlier that a race is involved to some extent. The LoSS might be just overseeing the smaller spiders climbing to the mask in this one. Maybe he simply doesn't trust his weight to the way to approach this one? Pohatu: Now things just get weird. Cacti! Aussie accent! Boomerangs! Sandnados! Yeah. I'm not sure if I like these changes or not... but kids will probably love them. There's very little resemblance to Gen 1 Po-Wahi here so far. Of course, the voice could easily be non-canon, as with Gali's; the accent is probably to help the universal voice actor distinguish between the characters, so I didn't take it too seriously. The rest is harder to ignore, though. It seems like this time they're going for a more real-world desert feel. There is precedent, though; the Bionicle Heroes Reidak level featured cacti. But besides all that, here we have the clearest appearance of self-telekinesis. When he summons a sand tornado, he clearly rises up as if hovering. Is the sand pushing him up? Probably. Still, I'll be interested to see this pinned down. And apparently the LoSS can spit something as an attack. Tahu: Wow he sounds really aggressive! Um... no real... story observations... Except the LoSS looks kinda guardlike near the end, but the first overview of this scene doesn't show it. Seemingly both the LoSS and the rock it's standing on show up much closer to the mask than in that earlier scene, but that could be a trick of direction and perspective. Well, and it seems like he's surfing horizontally in the volcano's caldera, possibly evidencing more self-telekinesis, but again nothing clearly meant to be taken seriously. He does seem to be going down something downhill first, so probably that's just meant to be building up momentum. Masks of Power trailer: On a mystical island, evil is rising, craving the powerful Mask of Creation. Note the change in wording from mythical to mystical. Meant as synonyms? And the name of the island isn't mentioned this time. Plus here we see confirmation that the Mask of Creation is central to this rising evil's goals. Whose motive is this? The Lord of the Skull Spiders? Or Makuta? Both? (Or mayyyyybeeee... THEY'RE ONE AND THE SAYYYYYYYYME!!!!11! *ahem*) But six elemental heroes crash from the sky. Tahu. Gali. Pohatu. Kopaka. Onua. And Lewa. It is their destiny to find their masks of power, battle evil, and save the island. This could just be promotional wording, but notice that this destiny doesn't mention awakening anybody. In G1, saving the island was a step along the way to awakening Mata Nui. In G2, perhaps awakening Ekimu is a step to saving the island? Okay, there's my observations. Thunks? Crazy? Applesauce?
  5. Well, Even though my entry got nowhere near winning the contest, that won't stop me from depicting it as an actual Okoto villain via the new style! (a style which is hard to emulate.) anyway, pretend there's a background, i'm not gonna try to emulate one of those. pretend he's spotted the golden mask or something.
  6. "Really. This is why you summoned me?" These dudes, trained and given elemental powers by the big man Pohatu himself, protect Po-Koto while he's off on business. Skinny Asymmentry over there has a sword. He stabs. Bigmin Mac Widensteen on the other hand, has striker eureka capabilities in his chest and a big glove. We're safe.
  7. i think he's like an aboriginal shogun landsknecht, which is one heck of a combo more pics here >> https://www.flickr.com/photos/114035403@N02/sets/72157649926605422/ crits please! when I get more rust brown pieces i'm gonna do him over again in a more competent manner
  8. I posted this theory on Tumblr a few days ago, but I think I ought to share it here, too, since it makes a great difference in judging the new online animations. Here's the original text, modified from Tumblr: Those of us who are obsessed with clarifying every last detail of G1 should prepare for a very different experience in G2. It's going to be much looser and less clear about what's canon and what isn't. Maybe everything is canon; maybe nothing is canon. Essentially, if we S&T folks want to enjoy G2, we need to loosen up and just go with the flow. Thoughts?
  9. This poll asks how much the animation of 2015 Bionicle resembles a storybook. Please do not vote based on the voices primarily. The point of this is A) whether Bionicle 2015 actually has a storybook style and B) whether this fact would become obvious to the viewers upon watching and inform their opinions on said animation, the voices, etc. However, if you think that the voices are important to this, you can vote based on that anyway. I think the animation question is more important, though. Vote! I didn't immediately think "storybook animation" on watching these - there are no flipping pages, for example, or other obvious storybook hallmarks. However, the narration style "Listen, my son" could have clued in some IMO. I got a more action-y vibe like the CGI commercial from them - a storybook animation is not something I expect from Bionicle. Doesn't mean it's bad.
  10. I have a theory about the new 2015 story, that might explain what the Protectors are protecting, why the Toa need those golden masks, and why Okoto has such a kooky look. Based on the promo comic on the back of the Master's boxes, it looks like the Protectors are protecting the masks! But why? Are they expecting the Toa, and keeping the mask warm for them? Maybe, but I have another idea too: Since this new BIONICLE is up front about being "magical" (forged from raw magic and gold, Ekimu?), this idea seems to make sense: The golden masks themselves, just by being in a certain region, change the environment itself! Or at least have a very strong link to it- or are just that powerful. And this would explain the wonky look of Okoto- the elements of the island are somehow influenced by the masks! (but maybe not, since the masks have to be forged from the elements now. Maybe these ones are special though?) This is why the Toa need those masks! From the promo comic, it looks like once they have them they can kick trash. I think that it connects them more deeply to their element (and region), and gives them the full range of their power. Without it, they only have the bare minimum (maybe like a turaga on Mata Nui? or maybe the comparison is just Toa Mata to Nuva in power). Well, what do you think? Any different ideas about Protectors, or what makes the golden masks so special? --------- [like, subscribe, and comment below!]
  11. Let me start by saying this: I am glad that Bionicle is back. Still, that did not stop me from cringing when I saw the 2015 story teaser. Seeing as how they are aiming this at kids, how do you feel about the story? It is also, with a heavy heart, that I let go of my dear terms such as, Miru, Pakari, Kanohi, Turaga, ect.
  12. What should we call the new Toa? We can't just call them Toa, since that will add confusion. The BS01 just archives the real--I mean the old Toa into gen 1 page, and utilizes the names of the Toa for the reboot. I suggest we leave the old pages in their proper place, and call the reboot Toa the Toa Okoto. Any other suggestions will be appreciated though. Who has ideas?
  13. To be clear, this is about how well you think the new Bionicle story will please you, not the kiddies (we already know the kiddies will like it ). How much do you think you'll like it? Vote away! (For the record, I vote neutral - I have no expectations at this point, could go either way. )
  14. I was browsing through BS01, looking at the new pages for the 2015 line, and I found something on basically all of the Toa pages. To paraphrase, "after the battle between Ekimu and Makuta, the Masters crash-landed on the island of Okoto." Has this been explained anywhere else? If it's on all of the pages, I have to assume that this info has some basis in fact. If they crash-landed, how? And from where? A boat in a storm? Or in some sort of interstellar ship from planet in a distant star system? I know its a reboot, but what if, per say, they crash-landed there after some mixture of interdimensional and interstellar travel from Spherus Magna? I get that the characters are very different from their G1 counterparts, but I haven't seen any speculation on here concerning this information, so I figured I'd go for it. Another planet, another dimension, another time... It could work, right? EDIT: A good point made by TSM: Thoughts? Theories? Theatrics?
  15. A pair of dark green eyes loomed out of the darkness at the Master of Fire's face. "You and your team are not the only controllers of the elements, Tahu. There is us as well. We are the elements, Toa. We embody them. I am the Lord of Fire. Kneel." ...Anyway, this is my second BFTGM entry, the evil Lord of Fire! On Okoto, there exist six Lords of the Elements, who control their elements with a skill that the Toa could never hope to match. The idea behind them was (Accidentally) inspired by the Element Lords, and at some point I might make the other five. Comment, criticise and post! Front (With background): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Makuta-Miras/LordofFire/lordoffirefront.jpg I cannibalised the arms and legs of this from an MOC I made ages ago, and the torso was mostly based off of my self-MOC, which I've also entered into BFTGM. With this one, I also attempted to cut out the background using Gimp, so although it looks a bit scruffy, I'm pleased with it. Without background: http://postimg.org/image/t6iyhsdht/
  16. Read King Vultraz The Premise After seizing control of a the "Great Kanohi Mask" and becoming a king, we return to Vultraz now. He runs a Diner in Metru-Nui, he's lost his precious Mask, and everything is spiralling downward. This epic will contain "mini-arcs"; every three or so chapters will be tied together by some sort of central concept, but the epic will still contain several over-arching plotlines. The Story (Topic) The Diner C1 - C2 - C3 The Cast TBA So... you can review here! This does not, at the moment, have a steady release schedule planned; I'll post chapters as I write them.
  17. Here's Onua, the best I could do from the promo images viewed on a phone. And Pohatu. I think the legs look off...too big. And the feet aren't as detailed as I would like, but I'm satisfied with the product overall. Let me know what you think!
  18. A few days ago, I created a topic with my intial versions of Ekimu and Makuta. Now I'm back, with... Post-MoUP Makuta! Front image: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Makuta-Miras/EkimuAndMakuta/post-moup_makuta.png Back view: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Makuta-Miras/EkimuAndMakuta/post-moup_makuta_behind.png I used Witch Doctor's helmet as a stand-in for the MoUP, seeing as it hasn't been released yet. This build was mostly two things. One was actually trying to create a decent representation of Makuta after using the MoUP. The other was messing around with the new Chima 2014 shells which have recently been added to LDD. Anyway, comments and criticism will be appreciated!
  19. CHAPTER 1 - THE DINER, PART 1 It was an ordinary morning - just like it always is at the beginning of any tale. Seven airships had crash landed in Ga-Metru during the night, destroying half the Metru, while Po-Metru had somehow launched themselves into the sky, and they now hovered several hundred feet above where they had formerly been connected to the rest of the city. Down to the south in BZ-Koro, these events were of no concern to the customers enjoying the typical servings of Vultraz’s Diner, and the staff of said Diner were happily going about their jobs… as happily as they could, anyway; working for Vultraz was always a bit of a chore to all but the most loyal of workers. A red and black Matoran of Shadow meandered through the various tables and booths in the restaurant, a white chef’s hat upon his head, a white apron tied around his waist, and a plastic spoon tucked into his pocket. In his hands were a pen and notepad, upon which he scribbled the comments of his various customers. To those who did not know him personally (everyone that did not work at the diner), this habit made Vultraz seem kind and well-mannered, caring about his customers more than any of the other restaurants within BZ-Koro. That assumption could not be further from the truth. “Um, excuse me, sir?” The Shadow Matoran paused, pen halfway to his pocket; he turned around slowly to face the Le-Matoran that had spoken. “Yes?” “My coffee was stone cold when it arrived,” the Le-Matoran said, gesturing towards the untouched mug that was suspiciously lacking the tell-tale steam that came with actually being hot coffee. “Don’t you have a guarantee that your coffee will arrive so piping hot that drinking it scalds the tongue?” “We don’t have tongues,” Vultraz said. “We’re biomechanical beings. The fact that we even consume food and drinks rather than just absorbing energy in a horribly defined way doesn’t even make sense.” The Le-Matoran blinked, momentarily confused, before reaching into a pocket of the cloak that he had wrapped around his chair and pulling out a small piece of folded paper. He rapidly unfolded it and flattened it upon the table, reviewing an ad for the Diner that clearly stated a personal guarantee from Vultraz himself that the coffee would be so piping hot when served that drinking it would scald the tongue. “If you don’t mind, I would like two things,” the Le-Matoran said after a moment of silence. “And those are?” “The first is a refund,” the Le-Matoran said, standing and throwing on his cloak, pulling out a business card and tucking it into Vultraz’s apron. “The second is your appearance in the Metru-Nui court in two weeks’ time, after I sue you.” “I-you can’t-what?” Vultraz spluttered. Vultraz glared at the Le-Matoran as he turned around briefly to smirk before exiting the Diner, the doors rattling as they were slammed shut. The Shadow Matoran remained where he was standing, mouth slightly open, as everything continued like normal around him. --- Once he regained his sense of reality a few minutes later (after several customers had excused themselves, creeped out by the owner staring at them with a gaping mouth), he immediately launched into detective mode. “Who’s been on coffee this morning?” he demanded as soon as he entered the kitchen. The black and yellow, bug-like face of his personal assistant, a Makuta named Bitil, poked out of the office that they both shared. “Why, is something up?” “A coffee was stone cold and now I’m being sued,” Vultraz fumed. “Who was on coffee?” “Jaller does coffee on Tuesday,” Bitil answered. “He’s on break out back right now. Would you like me to page him?” “No,” Vultraz said, grabbing a wooden baseball bat from its resting place in the corner. “I’ve got this one under control. Get your medical kit ready. You’ll probably have to fix up a few limbs once I’m done… and maybe a mask as well.” “Yes sir.” The Shadow Matoran tossed his hat to the side and threw his apron up onto the hook, hefting the baseball bat onto his shoulder as he made his way through the kitchen, ducking underneath the wooden beam carried by the hulking monstrosity that was Makuta Icarax and shivering as the walk-in freezer doors were opened as he passed by. As he kicked the back door open and stepped into the alley, two of the three Matoran standing outside flinched; the third merely rolled his eyes. The one that had not flinched was a white and grey Ko-Matoran known as Mazeka, and he made no attempt to hide the smoking pipe in his hand that disgusted Vultraz so much. The other two Matoran were, respectively, a red and blue Av-Matoran called Takua, and the Matoran that Vultraz had ventured out here to see - the red and yellow Ta-Matoran known as Jaller. “Which of you was on coffee today?” Vultraz asked. The three Matoran remained silent for a full minute before Jaller finally quietly stammered, “M-me…” “I have half a mind to beat you to death,” Vultraz said, “and the other half just wants to fire you and chain you in the freezer, to see how long you’ll last.” “What was wrong?” Mazeka asked cautiously. “That’s none of your business,” Vultraz snapped. “And get that pipe out of my sight! I explicitly told you that smoking was not allowed here!” He turned back to Jaller, who flinched again and cowered against the wall, letting out a squeaky “what did I do?!” “The coffee was stone cold, and now I’m being sued by some idiot I don’t even know the name of!” Vultraz snarled. “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’ve kinda been underperforming lately! If I have to pay too large a settlement, this place is going under!” “Wait, stone cold?” Jaller asked, seeming confused. “But… it was piping hot when I made it! How could it have gotten cold? I just went on break two minutes ago!” Before Vultraz could speak, Mazeka interrupted, looking sheepish. “Oh… that uh… that might be my fault.” “What?” Vultraz hissed, whirling on the Ko-Matoran. “I-well, I wanted to prank Jaller,” Mazeka said, looking alarmed. “While he was watching over the pancakes I flash froze the coffee in the freezer and then brought it back out. I thought he’d notice that it wasn’t steaming!” “It was steaming though!” Jaller protested. “How would it be steaming?!” Mazeka exclaimed. “That was my fault,” Takua mumbled. The other three Matoran froze, slowly turning to the Matoran of Light, who refused to meet any of their eyes, instead staring at the ground. “What did you do?” Vultraz asked slowly. “I put acid in the coffee,” Takua mumbled. “Turaga Vakama was being rude to me again….” “You’re fired,” Vultraz said, as Mazeka facepalmed behind him. “And I think you really deserve this.” The Shadow Matoran swung the bat and it collided with Takua’s head with a thud, knocking the Av-Matoran into the wall, where he crumpled to the ground, dazed. Pulling the bat back, Vultraz furiously whipped it into the air, and it landed on the roof of the Diner with a clatter. “I cannot believe you three!” he exploded. “Seriously, what in Karzahni possessed you all to be so stupid? Was the whole Mutran debacle not lesson enough that you shouldn’t be messing around at work?! I mean, come on! Attempted murder? Really?” “Yeah, because you’ve totally never tried to kill anyone,” Mazeka said drily. “Shut up!” Vultraz snapped. “Today sucks,” Jaller muttered. “I didn’t even do anything wrong!” “You could have actually noticed that the coffee was frozen!” Vultraz exclaimed. “All three of you are fools!” “You keep playing up the ‘we’re in financial trouble’ card, and yet you employ Makuta and have a Mask of Dimensional Gates in your possession,” Mazeka replied. “Maybe you could, like, sell the mask? Not employ the most powerful species in the universe?” “You know that we shouldn’t even have the mask, and you know why the Makuta were all hired,” Vultraz hissed. “And I swear to Karzahni, if you mention those topics out loud again, I will gut you.” He was cut off from saying more by the sound of the door to the kitchen opening again, and he turned around to see Makuta Bitil, looking extremely worried. “What is it?” Vultraz asked, sighing. “Um, Mr. Makuro is here…” Bitil said, trailing off. “Mr. Makuro?” Mazeka asked. “You mean the owner of Hero School?” Vultraz turned to face him. “Shut you mouth. Jaller, Mazeka, get Takua back inside and wait in my office until I have time to deal with you.” “Mr. Makuro is in the office right now,” Bitil said from behind him. “FINE! They can go to the basement and wait there!” Vultraz yelled, turning back to Bitil as the other Matoran scrambled to do as he had ordered. “Why is he here?” “He says that he hasn’t been pleased with the performance of the Metru-Nui Eatery, something about Radiak being a pain to work with,” Bitil replied. “If you’re willing, he wants to work out a deal with us instead.” Vultraz grinned. “Are you serious?” “Dead serious. Well, not dead, but… you know.” “This might just save us,” Vultraz replied, rubbing his hands together gleefully. “Alright - I’ll go meet with Mr. Makuro. Bitil, the business card of the fartface trying to sue us is in the pocket of my apron - go do a check up on whoever it is, alright? And have Vamprah go downstairs and guard those three bumbling idiots. The last thing I need is one of them messing up something down there….” “Yes, it might be an issue if they activated the Mask of Dimensional Gates,” Bitil mused. “I thought that was in the attic,” Vultraz said. “No, there wasn’t room for the dimensional travel chamber up there,” Bitil explained. “So Mutran had Chirox and I move it to the basement instead.” “Have Vamprah get down there immediately, then,” Vultraz decided. “If they find some way to travel through dimensions or blow up the Diner or whatever, so help me, I shall send them to Karzahni in person.” “Of course, sir. Would you like anything for your meeting?” Vultraz thought for a moment before nodding. “A glass of Dr. Pepper might be nice.” As the Makuta rushed away to fulfill the Shadow Matoran’s commands, Vultraz took a moment to frown at the turnout of the day. He had a sinking feeling that whether his meeting went well with Mr. Makuro or not, this day was just going to get worse. And to top it all off, I lost the one item that could make everything right again, he thought. I should have stayed as king. To Be Continued. Review Topic
  20. Artakha was more of a Mask maker than a Great Being, but he was useful. He sculpted the masks for the Great Beings, The Kanohi Masks of Legend. The masks were named by Artakha's hand, so were the names given to describe the masks. No matter the cost, Artakha WAS useful and a great friend to the Great Beings. Artakha strided two steps toward his blacksmith forge, where an object was waiting for him. He was standing in his personal house on the isle of Okoto, the island which Artakha named after his own name, Artakha. Shelves and a small desk cluttered the small interior. Artakha picked up a small hammer and a chisel from a workbench just toward his left. He started chisling the design into the object in his forge, which then took the shape of a mask with a crown. He grabbed a bar of blue magic and protodermis. Artakha infused the mask with the blue magic first, which was a tad tricky, then reached for the bar of protodermis, almost knocking it off the shelf. He used a small, extremely sharp carving knife to carve the bar of energy into a small circle. Then used the shavings to sprinkle onto the mask. Artakha fisted the circle of protodermis into a small circle on the mask. The forge then lit in fluorescent blue light. It died down then after, and the golden, blue powered mask hovered out of the forge, upright. Artakha looked at it and said, "This artifact will soon please my masters the Great Beings, This is the Mask of Creation!" He then tucked the mask into a small bag and dematerialized out of the house. The Mask maker then would have delivered the mask to the Temple of Creation. If it wasn't for the Lord of Skull spiders. Artakha had returned to Okoto, only to find it in ruin. skull Spiders ran rampant everywhere. all of a sudden, as if on cue, six colored beings jumped out of a portal, and started fighting skull spiders which had leapt at then. They disposed of them immediately. Artakha then vanished into a portal to tell the Great Beings about what he saw. When he talked to them, they told him they had made the Six Toa into masters of their elements. To fight the rising Lord of skull Spiders. And restore balance to Okoto.
