  1. What follows is a theory I've been thinking about since the release of the first BIONICLE 2015 videos, and for that reason the post may be quite long. It is also my first thread so if the writing style is hard to read, I apologise. Anyway: THE BASIC IDEA My theory is that Generation 2 is actually set in the same universe and continuity as Generation 1, but enough years forward in the future that the events of G1 will not need to be mentioned in order to understand G2. BUT, DIDN'T LEGO SAY G2 IS A REBOOT? I think many fans of G1 would like G2 to be canonically related somehow to the previous story. LEGO know this, so are likely to have done this somehow. Although they have stated this is a "reboot", I believe that is wordplay to mean "you don't need to know G1 to understand G2, and you would not know that there was a G1 just by following the story of G2". THE MAIN THEORY, AND EVIDENCE 1) Teridax, the Golden Skinned Being and Makuta My first point regards the Golden Skinned Being (GSB) from G1, and how its golden colouration and powers of control are similar to G2's "Makuta". -Teridax created the GSB before the final battle, however it did not take part in that battle. That implies it had another purpose, which I believe could be a backup body, in case Teridax lost the battle and had to leave the GSR. However, Teridax didn't plan to be defeated in a way that destroyed the Core Processor holding his Antidermis. That destruction meant some Antidermis was lost. After some time composing himself, Teridax in Antidermis form heads to find the GSB, losing more Antidermis on the way. He manages to take over the mind of the GSB, but the Antidermis he lost earlier encoded many of his memories. He now thinks his name is "Makuta", and only remembers his original purpose of helping the Matoran. He becomes a mask maker and forges a mask for himself that embodies his power of Control. (As a side note, the GSB took control of the Toa Mahri, so if this theory is accurate then Makuta in G2 may control five corrupted Toa.) 2) The island of Okoto and Spherus Magna -Okoto could be anywhere. However, this theory suggests that it is an island off the coast of the Spherus Magna mainland. It appears to have formed from its volcano, so requires some tectonic activity. It would be a nice reference if it was in the huge circle of ocean where Aqua Magna rejoined the planet (which would presumably have residual tectonic activity from the heat of Aqua Magna being reshaped to fit into the hole in Spherus Magna), so that Okoto floats in the same (now not so) Endless Ocean that Mata Nui did. 3) The villagers, and why "Air" is now "Jungle" This regards how the Protectors seem more similar to Agori than Matoran. -Firstly, the Protectors can give birth, grow from children and age. This suggests that they are organic beings like Agori, who could also reproduce etc. Matoran are biomechanical and can not reproduce etc. (As an aside, this is good evidence that G2 is not a rerun of the G1 story as some theorise, because if it were, why not use Matoran?) The armour and Earth Elemental Blaster fit the description of "technological implants" like the Agori got. -Secondly, the G1 Jungle Tribe has passed on its name to the Jungle villagers, despite them having Air elemental powers (evidenced by Air Elemental Blaster and Protector "Jungle Mask", not "Mask of Jungle" as with the other masks). -Thirdly, enough time has passed since G1 in order for the intelligent Zesk to have evolved back to their non-beast form. They became known as Stone villagers to avoid the association with their beast-like Sand Tribe past and to reflect the elemental abilities Ekimu granted them. The similar armour that all the tribes wear hides any remaining differences. 4) Why the Toa are even more familiar than they currently seem Concerning their arrival -Firstly, the G2 Toa look like upgrades of the G1 Toa, not rebuilds. The addition of gold armour parts in G1 indicated a disinguished Toa team, something the Mata definitely would have counted as after the reforming of Spherus Magna, and were possibly given new armour before G2 to recognise that. -Secondly, the references to the past, and the Vahi, imply that this is the same Toa team from the past. -Thirdly, the Toa in G2 have memory loss and that could include forgetting that their masks have avilities like shielding etc. -Fouthly, the Toa according to this theory are still biomechanical. Therefore they are immortal, which explains why the mortal Protectors see them as "timeless" heroes. It also explains why the Protectors are surprised that the Toa survived a crash-landing - biological Protectors are more fragile beings, so would not survive a similar landing. -Lastly, as a side note, in G1 astrology was not a thing. If that holds true for G2, then the requirements that the "planets align" could have a non-mystical explanation. The "Toa Planets" could actually have been the Toa themselves, orbiting Spherus Magna in canisters or space stations (a similar idea to G1's Red Star - I imagine that the planets did not disappear when the Toa arrived, so something must remain that the Toa were ejected from). The "planets" must align overhead before you summon the Toa, because otherwise they will fall from space onto the wrong island! 5) Ekimu and his love of elemental masks This section is about the fact that gold elemental masks are supposedly better than non-gold elemental masks. -The regular Toa masks do not have to actually be masks of their elements. As mentioned above, they could be the G1 masks. The masks still enhance the natural elemental abilities of the users, but that is because any Kanohi helps channel a Toa's elemental abilities. The Protectors have mistakenly told the Toa that their regular masks are elemental because the protector masks ARE elemental. -If the regular Toa masks aren't elemental, then that leaves it free for the golden masks to be the Elemental Great Kanohi that were even possible to exist in G1. They need not be of a new, higher power level above the regular Kanohi. These masks will of course boost the Toa's elemental ability because it gives the Toa access to more power on top of what they have innately. However, future plot lines could involve the Toa remembering that their basic masks have different abilities, and they may wish to switch back to them. ...And that's the theory so far! My last point is that I do not think LEGO will confirm that G2 is a continuation, even if it is, until after G2 finishes. They do not want to confuse new fans, as we know. Instead, it could be the final surprise to keep fans talking once the theme is gone. Anyway, thanks for reading! Please give me your thoughts and I'd love to hear of if I have got any plot details wrong - this is supposed to perfectly link the two canons. And if no one reads all this, then at least I won't look so stupid when the theory is proved wrong!
  2. This may be a bit of an over-ambitious leap, but could it be possible that the kestora are matoran of shadow? Firstly, shadow is the only element not to be naturally represented in a tribe of matoran, despite not being considered evil when the MU was created. This is a perfect slot for the kestora to fill. Secondly, kestora are not sapient unlike matoran, but this is only because they were excluded from Velika's awakening. If they were inside the robot during the awakening, there is no reason why they would not have gained sapience. Thirdly, their colours are black and purple. Although they lack red, these two colours are both related to shadow. Fourthly, their job is perfectly themed for shadow matoran; resurrecting the dead. The Makuta are the most shadow themed species in the MU, and specialise as scientists. Necromancy of mechanical beings is a rather morbid and "sciency" task, relating the element of shadow. Fifthly, they are perfect mirrors of av-matoran, who are linked to the opposite element. The av-matoran are located in the heart of the MU, while the kestora live on the edge. Karda-Nui resurrects the Great Spirit, while the Red Star resurrects its inhabitants. The energy storms represent rebirth, while the Red Star is almost like an afterlife. Of course, there are problems with this theory. Why aren't the kestora called kra-matoran if they are matoran? My best answer is because the matoran named themselves after they became sapient. I don't think this is a certain fact, but it's my best answer. Any criticism pointing out mistakes I made is welcome, and thank you for any feedback!
  3. Hey all, As I've been going through the BIONICLE lore and working on making designs for my upcoming collab I've come upon a few things that I'm not sure on. Mainly the nature of Kanohi. From what I've gathered they seem to energized to set their protodermis in a program code almost at a point where the masks are near mystic level. (Yes I know it's not magic but technology) My first question is do you think there maybe energy cells like maybe a lightstone variation containing the essence that sets the code power? Also I ran across this prototype mask http://bionicle.wikia.com/wiki/File:Prototype_Jaller_Inika_1.png and plan to incorporate it in my collab but I do wonder most great Kanohi are a single color so should I rework the mouth gaurd to fit that theme or should I use it as is? Also I'm not 100% if this is the right place to start this kind of topic but it seemed to be the best one
  4. I posted this theory on Tumblr a few days ago, but I think I ought to share it here, too, since it makes a great difference in judging the new online animations. Here's the original text, modified from Tumblr: Those of us who are obsessed with clarifying every last detail of G1 should prepare for a very different experience in G2. It's going to be much looser and less clear about what's canon and what isn't. Maybe everything is canon; maybe nothing is canon. Essentially, if we S&T folks want to enjoy G2, we need to loosen up and just go with the flow. Thoughts?
  5. I have a theory about the new 2015 story, that might explain what the Protectors are protecting, why the Toa need those golden masks, and why Okoto has such a kooky look. Based on the promo comic on the back of the Master's boxes, it looks like the Protectors are protecting the masks! But why? Are they expecting the Toa, and keeping the mask warm for them? Maybe, but I have another idea too: Since this new BIONICLE is up front about being "magical" (forged from raw magic and gold, Ekimu?), this idea seems to make sense: The golden masks themselves, just by being in a certain region, change the environment itself! Or at least have a very strong link to it- or are just that powerful. And this would explain the wonky look of Okoto- the elements of the island are somehow influenced by the masks! (but maybe not, since the masks have to be forged from the elements now. Maybe these ones are special though?) This is why the Toa need those masks! From the promo comic, it looks like once they have them they can kick trash. I think that it connects them more deeply to their element (and region), and gives them the full range of their power. Without it, they only have the bare minimum (maybe like a turaga on Mata Nui? or maybe the comparison is just Toa Mata to Nuva in power). Well, what do you think? Any different ideas about Protectors, or what makes the golden masks so special? --------- [like, subscribe, and comment below!]
  6. The BIONICLE canon is dark, full of horrors, unnecessary sci-fi-ness and inconsistency, and we're trying to make it a bit more consistent. Behold the table of kraata powers (and possibly other ones)! Version 1.1. Version 1.5 by Tremah. Version 2.0 by Tremah.
  7. Hello! I'm Vesok, and I joined this wonderful community today after lurking for a while. I've had this headcanon for a while, and wanted to share it with you guys as the more i thought about it, the more it presented itself to me as likely. I believe that the Great Beings are meant to symbolize humans who build with Bionicle. Think about it. They are humanoid. They have no elemental power that we know of. And they build humanoid robots in a variety of sizes. So what do you guys think?
  8. So I was thinking...what exactly is protodermis? I don't know that the bionicle universe is even constructed in the same way as ours (atoms, molecules etc) but if it is, then is protodermis an element, a compound or a name for a group of elements? Everything in the MU is made of it, even the 'elements' themselves so it must be able to come in many different forms like carbon. Anyway, tell me what you think... -Silo
  9. Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted on here, but now I'm back with a theory about Kraata formation. This theory will explain the different processes the Makuta used to create Kraata, but first we need to establish some facts. 1.) We know that before the Makuta evolved from biomechanical antidermis to gas/energy antidermis that they could produce Kraata, but the process was "lengthy and yielded weak kraata" (BS01). 2.) After their evolution "the Makuta found that they could create superior Kraata and in much less time, though creation of the slugs would weaken them for a short period of time" (BS01). 3.) "Antidermis can regenerate even if parts of it disperse or are destroyed, but not quickly enough to survive outside a container" (BS01). I think that before their evolution the Makuta would grow the Kraata from an exposed area of their tissue, willing that tissue to bud off from itself and form the slug. This growth process would take time and be fraught with errors (imagine scar tissue growth in humans) explaining the "lengthy" and "inferior" aspects of the process. This growth would most likely occur in a specially shapeshifted area of the Makuta's armour, such as the various Rahkshi spines on Teridax's Shadow Titan form, in order to protect the growing Kraata. After their evolution this process became more streamlined. Doing away with the exposed area within a growth chamber the Makuta would simply allow some of their essence to leak from their armour. Once a sufficient amount had leaked they simply willed it into solid form, creating a Kraata. This would be a much quicker way of creating Kraata. Also by creating its entire body at once, it would contain fewer errors and so be a superior specimen. Additionally, as the Makuta in question used up some of their Antidermis to create the Kraata they will need time for it to regenerate itself, explaining why they are weakened for a short time after creating Kraata. So what of you think? Any problems, comments or suggestions?
  10. Hello my fellow inhabitants. Today I'd like to talk a little about the red star. With many theories already, I can't say for certain this thread will offer any new information but I'll still go on anyway. So first of all what is the red star? It's the place, where all the dead go to be rebuilt and placed back in the robot, but it malfunctioned. The dead would remain inside the star. But moving onward, a toa one stated that the red star "looked like being on the inside of a toa" so my theory is that the red star itself is another giant robot. I don't know how significant that would be, but that's what I think. Another note, I think Tahu and the red star may have something in common, for Tahu was one of the last sets ever sold (Bionicle Stars) and if you think about it, Tahu is the "red star" being the red one out of the bionicle stars sets. So what does this mean now? What does it mean for Tahu? Please share your thoughts. Thank you for reading.
  11. Hello again. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been active around S&T or posted a decent theory, though after posting this on my blog the other day, I’ve decided to post it here and get some feedback, criticism and hopefully some discussion from you all. PART ONE - INITIAL THEORY POST The following theory is somewhat of a further development of my theory outlined in my previous blog post about the functions of different types of Matoran in the Matoran Universe, in which I outlined what I believed to be the function of the Bo-Matoran as a method of maintenance of the various flora made from organic Protodermis throughout the Mata-Nui robot. The primary point of this theory is a look into the question: Why only flora? We've been told by Greg and several references in the universe that the entirety of the matoran universe is comprised of various forms of Protodermis. "Protodermis is the material which makes up the Matoran Universe and all living things and objects inside it." [bS01] Now Matoran, like all other sapient species in the matoran universe are made up of a combination of mechanical and organic components. The mechanical components are comprised of pure solid protodermis whilst the organic components are comprised of what is reffered to as organic protodermis. "Organic Protodermis is a type of Protodermis that makes up all the organic tissue in the Matoran Universe." [bS01] Organic tissue is not only found in the sapient species, but also is what makes up all of the Flora in the Matoran Universe. "The plants of the Matoran universe are made entirely of Protodermis, distinguishing themselves from plants of other worlds." [bS01] Toa of the Green are able to manipulate this Flora, tapping into the Protodermis which comprises the plant-life, manipulating and also creating it. Some of the Flora in the MU (such as Karzahni and Morbuzakh) even had varying degree's of sentience, making the only real difference between flora and fauna the presence of solid protodermis and shape of being. This creates an interesting question, if a plant entirely made up of organic protodermis can be sentient, then that form of organic protodermis must be capable of forming at least some variety of brain equivalent capable of higher thought and function, similar at least in composition to the organic parts of the brain that lies within a Toa. With the above knowledge I see it as a reasonable thought process that if the Toa of the Green are able to control the organic protodermis that comprises the various forms of flora throughout the matoran universe including those that are sentient; they should be also control and manipulate the organic protodermis that lies within matoran or any of the other humanoid inhabitants of the MU. As far as I know I don't believe we've had direct confirmation from Greg that a Toa of the Green can't do this. I believe that there are a few reasons which could plausibly explain why we have not seen such usage of the Green in the story-line thus-far whilst allowing for it's inclusion. Unethical behavior / Breaking the Toa Code. Toa are upright paragons of right and justice, manipulation someone's internal organs can quite easily be seen a fighting dirty or as unethical. This is the same reason why there were no elemental Toa of Acid, despite there being Bohrok of this element. Despite this being seen as unethical to use on enemies, I still believe this can work as a part of the range of powers that the Toa could utilize. No significant Toa of Green in the Lore. In the entirety of the BIONICLE storyline, we only ever encountered one Toa of the Green: A Toa from Lhikan's past team who died to an attack by the Frostelus. Also due to the Frostelus nature of being sentient Rahi, point 1 would aid in why we never saw him use this power.Experience required / Hard to control Power. The internal organics of a living humanoid integrated with machinery and programming would be incredibly complicated, it would take a lot of practice and finesse to do so and it may be something everyday Toa of the Green may not be able to accomplish.Too complicated to explain to children. This is fairly self-explanatory, in the same way that psionics did not have large story presence, the green is easier to explain as being simply plant life to children, they can easily understand a plant Toa, but explaining that the plant guy can also manipulated organic components of the Matoran? Not so much. Luckily the ending of the official story line removes this restriction.Possibly confusion with Life Powers. Toa of the Green were introduced during the 2006-2008 story line surrounding the Mask of Life, while the Mask of life doesn't explicitly manipulate organics in any way. It's manipulation of the "Life force" inside every living thing in the Matoran Universe could potentially cause some confusion with an element which could manipulated Flora and to a limited extent Fauna. However, Life is a very different "element" In that all of it's powers are in relation to "Life-Force" while the organic protodermis is simply another form of protodermis. A Toa of Iron, Psionics and the Green could create a being with organic, biomechanical and programmed components but the being would not have the "Life-Force" component analogous to a soul if you will. It would simply be a robot or a golem-like creation. With these five reasons in mind, I don't believe that they necessarily mean that non-flora organic manipulation is off the table for Toa of the Green, I've got a few reasons why I believe this would be rather a neat addition to the canon. Interesting and more in depth power usage. Self explanatory really, it could have a lot of interesting applications and could be used both in and out of combat and give Teams a reason for taking a Toa of the Green to environments which do not have plants.Introducing a 'Healer' element. Aside from Gali Nuva in the 2003 Mask of Light movie, we have never really had the healer trope in a group of Toa, with the ability to create and manipulate the organic protodermis inside their allies. Toa of the Green could become healers for the group, repairing their damaged organics in the same way a Toa of Iron would mend armor. Gali's healing scene can be explained that the exposure to water was helping the organics that had been damaged in Tahu heal slowly with exposure to water. A Toa of the Green would have been able to heal him at a much greater rate. The Toa of Green's knowledge of poisons and toxins from various plants could aid in this role greatly.Making the most of an ambiguous name. Has Greg decided to name the element "Plant-life" or "Jungle" we wouldn't have this opportunity. The fact that's it's called "the Green" allows us to associate it not with just plants but all organic protodermis. This can easily be explained by having the raw form of organic protodermis take on a green color when channeled for creation of plants or healing.Possible explanation for lack of Toa of Green. The Makuta actively wiped out Toa of the most powerful elements that they saw as a threat to themselves. Magnetism, Iron, and Plasma were all hunted down. If the Makuta wished to hide their new lack of organic components from Toa in their continued masquerade, Toa of the Green would pose a problem.Completion of a Self-Maintaining MU. It's been stated before that the Matoran working is what keeps the Matoran universe working. In my previous blog post from 2010, I outlined the various matoran and the purposes that they fulfill in the robot. However there was one missing maintenance job as there was nothing responsible for organic protodermis in sapient beings. If the Toa of the Green gain the ability to manipulate and repair the organics within humanoid lifeforms in the Matoran Universe, all aspects of lifeforms inside the MU are now self-relying and maintaining. Toa of Iron can maintain and repair armor and solid protodermis in the mechanical components of beings. Toa of Psionics can maintain and fix mental errors and programming malfunctions in the minds of beings. Toa of The Green can maintain, and heal injuries and organic protodermis in the bodies of beings.I've gathered a few further thoughts and references on why the organic components of Matoran and Toa would need some form of maintenance. We were told in 2001 that the original Toa Mata had all of their organic components decayed due to their prolonged inactivity, hibernation and possibly the environmental factors associated with being floating in a tube for 1000 years. The Toa also lost their memories as an effect of this, leading me to conclude that the majority of their memories must have been stored in their organic protodermis components or the majority of their 'brain'. The mechanical components, made of solid protodermis must have included at least some form of rudimentary secondary brain for survival reactions such as putting themselves back together and basic motion. This would be a core part of Matoran/Toa base programming installed into their machinery. I'd imagine this would be in a similar capacity to how the human body can react to pain before passing on a pain signal to the brain itself, allowing the body to operate on its own in a limited capacity. Similarly the matoran/Toa can operate on it's own until the organics are repaired as seen by the Toa Mata and Metru-Matoran hibernating in the spheres. I'd imagine that the Matoran in Karzahni in disrepair were also in a similar state; but kept this way as it was stated that Karzahni "stripped them of their identities". This would have been achieved by removing the organics and thus memories perhaps followed a little bit of reprogramming. The Toa Mata not only lost all of their memories but also their training and skills, this shows that the organic components are vital for continuing functionality of Toa. The organic components healed on their own slowly, but it was years before any of them regained their memories. The Metru-nui refugee's also lost their memories and required the pure Toa energy of six Toa simply to awaken them. Potentially, we could still have six Toa Metru running around if there had been a Toa of the Green amongst them. PART TWO - BLOG FEEDBACK AND DISCUSSION For the sake of deepening discussion, I’m going to post below the comments I received on the blog and my responses as I believe they add to the theory somewhat. Lin, I can definitely see where you’re coming from here. Plant an animal cells in our world are drastically different from each other on a cellular level. But as you stated, this is the world of BIONICLE, where ‘cold energy’ exists as a concept and an entire robot is made up of varying forms of the same compound: Protodermis. This is why I try not to base any parts of my theories upon the limitations imposed by the way the real world works, instead extrapolating ideas from existing physics and chemistry of the BIONICLE universe. By thinking this way, I believe that it can help make ideas and theories that ‘fit’ more into the chaotic mess that is the Science of the BIONICLE universe. I can agree that Plants and animals may have some form of different structure in terms of classification. I believe that structure must be at least somewhat identifiable on a non-cellular level and that is what allows the matoran to classify what is a plant, rahi, robot or a sapient species. The classifications must be fairly obvious otherwise we’d have matoran calling Morbuzahk a Rahi. I proposed in the theory above that the primary difference between the Flora of the universe and the Fauna (including Sapient Species) was the presence of solid Protodermis in the bodies of Fauna. A difference which is easily identifiable by Matoran. I do believe that Greg’s system may have initially been wonky, but has come together to be somewhat cohesive due to the various developments and evolution of the story over the 10 years and being bombarded by those of us who are varying levels of scientists. There are many different forms of the same compound throughout the universe (Protodermis), in the Matoran universe. It can come in the different states of matter and in a number of forms of each. Frozen, solid Protodermis aka Ice is as similar to liquid Protodermis as Pure Solid Protodermis aka Metal, as both can be created from it, albeit Pure Solid is a slightly longer process. As far as Stone and Earth, they may both be forms of Raw Solid Protodermis that are slightly different in terms of the particle size of the Protodermis, which just gives us one more form of Solid Protodermis, Fine Solid Protodermis. As far as Organic tissue goes, we are only aware of one form of Organic Protodermis. My theory hinges on the fact that both flora and fauna have the same form of Organic Protodermis inside of them. If a Toa of the Green cannot manipulate the Organic Protodermis inside Flora and Sapient beings, then this organic Protodermis must be a different form. I.e. Floral Organic Protodermis and Faunal Organic Protodermis become two new different forms. Potentially even another separate form for humanoid sapients. This reminds me of the debate surrounding what makes Keetongu and Krahka a Rahi and not grouped with the rest of the races? This could be easily resolved if they resumed using rahi as the matoran word for “Not-us” as opposed to being synonymous with animal and have Makuta, Skakdi, Vortixx etc all be classified as Rahi. As it has essentially became the equivalent of the Roman word Barbarian which also used to mean “Not Roman” but is now associated with a certain kind of individual. Anyway, getting side-tracked here. I quickly just whipped up the above table to clearly lay out what I believe is the difference between the different forms of life in the matoran universe. I left out Sapience as a column as there are examples of sapient flora, rahi and robots. But are the majority of each of these categories aren't sapient. Not 100% sure I’m on board with this idea. I prefer the idea of a unified matoran race in terms of origin. Perhaps this could be a result of side effect of Toa of the Green healing their matoran over the years, slowly changing out the organic composition of their internals? Leaving this difference being more of an adapted change rather than a created change. Part of my point is that Jungle doesn’t have to be all the green is. Fire existed on Spherus Magna, but didn’t have heat control? Sand existed on Spherus Magna but didn’t end up being associated with an element in the MU. The great beings admitted they changed things in creating the giant robot, with the decision to remove jungle as a primary element being one we have as canonized. The fact it’s called the Green and not Jungle lends to the fact that something significant was changed; as did the fact they didn’t call it Plant-life. Especially when we have an example of a power called exactly “Plant Control” which is that of the Makuta and Rahkshi. The Green isn't Jungle or Plant Control. It’s the Green. They’re has got to be some reason behind it (other than the truth of Greg’s random decision) that we can explain and create. PART THREE - ADDITIONAL THINGS TO THINK ABOUT After discussing my theory with the commenters in my blog, I continued to think about the question I posed to the responders. If The Toa of the Green can’t control organic protodermis in humanoids and Rahi, this poses some more questions. Additional Forms of Organic Protodermis. How many specific forms of Organic Protodermis are there? Is it just limited to Botanic Organic, Sapient Organic and Rahi Organic? Or can it be manipulated in the same way solid Protodermis can, resulting in Frozen Organic, Pure Organic with the original being Raw Organic? Are there forms of Gaseous and Liquid Organic Protodermis? Is the original solid Antidermis, which was used as the internal organs of the Makuta race; organic in nature? The Green Etymology. Can we create an actual lore-based reason for the choice of the Great beings change the name from Jungle to the Green? My organic theory is one possibility but there can easily be others, for example: All acid we have encountered in the storyline thus-far has been green or greenish-yellow in color, with one major source being botanically produced (The grass on the mountain produced an acidic substance.) Another major occurrence of Acid was the Lehvak. Instead of making Acid a basic sub-power, could Liquid Organic Protodermis be acidic in nature and the substance that Lehvak and potentially Toa of the Green can control thus fitting in with the sub-power scheme of Vaccum/Air? This would fit with the timeline as the original Bohrok must have been created around the same time as the Av-Matoran who were made, which was when the great beings were still considering the green as a primary element. By the time the Bohrok-Kal had been created, it was decided that Air would be instead, thus Vaccum(Sub-power of air) to counter Air and Acid(Sub-power of The Green?) to counter The Green. I’m aware that this had no chance of being canon as Greg did not want a Toa wielding Acid, even if it’s only to nullify acid. But a guy can theorize, right? These questions aren't so much related to my original theory; rather just a few more things to consider when thinking about the Green and Organic Protodermis as a whole. This theory is very much still a work in progress and as I said at the start, I'd really appreciate any feedback and criticism that you may have to offer. Thanks for reading. - Roki
  12. It’s been some time since my last blog entry or even my last burst of activity on BZPower. I may post this in S&T later once I’ve re-worked it into more a concrete theory and less of jumble of words my brain has spat out onto the blog post. As a further development of my theory outlined in my previous blog post about the functions of different types of Matoran in the Matoran Universe, I outlined what I believed to be the function of the Bo-Matoran as a method of maintenance of the various flora made from organic Protodermis throughout the Mata-Nui robot. 13. So, yeah, we could wait till Tuesday. BUT WHO REALLY WANTS TO DO THAT. What do you think it is? But really, BZP, you should push it out until April 2nd. That way, we can be sure (not really) that it isn't an April Fools joke. Also, I swear, if Bionicle came back, and you didn't tell us, I will kill someone. Possibly several people. Seriously. I have guns pressed against the heads of Bonesiii, ~Windrider~, and Makaru. The guns will go off unless you repent. im just joking this isnt a terrorist attack or something calm down everyone Anyway, what are all your thoughts?
  14. Recently, the subject has come up of whether the GBs have abilities innately, or as a function of advanced technology. This has centered around instances in story where the GBs appear to have innate abilities, such as the insane GB's "dimension reach Kanohi turn-off", or the two GBs appearing invisible to the Matoran. Recent reveals seem to relate them to the Glatorian and Agori, however, who don't have powers. We also know that the Great Beings have given implants to Glatorian and Agori, giving them enhanced abilities. My theory is that the Great Beings did this for themselves, possibly to a greater extent. They invented protodermis, with the powers of Dimensional Gates and Concealment. I don't see why, with all the implant tech and their new high-powered substance, why they wouldn't have put two and two together, unless it was technologically impossible. If possible, this could explain why the insane GB didn't lose the ability to manipulate dimensions. If he had an implant in him before he touched the Mask of Life, it would be difficult to remove it, because the surgical tools would come alive. What do you think?
  15. So all this talk of Nuva symbols got me on a question: Why did Artahka teleport the Nuva symbols to Mata Nui to begin with? Ostensibly, it's a totally insane idea to put the Toa's main power source in reach of the enemies that they are battling. I don't buy the range argument. The Nuva symbols worked just fine when the Toa Nuva were on Voya Nui and the symbols were left behind on Metru Nui. The connection between the symbols and the Toa even penetrated Karda Nui's shields! Artahka could have just left the symbols safely hidden away in a vault somewhere. Neither do I think that Artahka underestimated the Makuta as a threat - after all, previously they had raided his fortress and stole a bunch of his stuff. He definitely wouldn't put it past Teridax to steal the source of his enemies' power, or destroy it. Further, I also don't buy that Artahka teleported the symbols to test the Toa by having their powers stolen before they confronted the Rahkshi. How would Artahka know that Makuta Teridax was going to pull Rahkshi out of his hat, anyway? How would he know what Makuta Teridax was doing, and that the Toa that he made were unprepared to face the new threats coming their way? And therein lies the key. He didn't. Therefore, I theorize that Artahka teleported the symbols to Mata Nui in order to try to figure out what Teridax was doing on Mata Nui. Makuta had any number of ways that he could have destroyed the symbols, most notably the Rahkshi (one good blast from Guurahk should have cut it, right?). If Makuta wanted to destroy the Toa Nuva, he could have done so easily that way. So Artahka dangled the symbols under Makuta's mask - "Here's a way to destroy your enemies, quick and easy." Makuta was too smart to go for it. He went after the MoL, but he never touched the symbols, leaving Artahka to theorize that Makuta might have something more in mind than just defeating the Toa of Mata Nui. There's the theory: take it or destroy it.
  16. So, I had been thinking about Hau Nuva for the last pass two years and wondered this: the Hau Nuva is more augmented than the original Hau it has abilities to defend other people as well as the user simultaneously. Now, my theory suggest that it could be utilized as an offencive weapon by throwing a shield around someone, or something, then compressing that shield could smash the opponent of the Hau Nuva user. What I'm wondering is if this would be a legit ability of a Hau Nuva user. Thanks for listening!
  17. Okay, so we all know that Velika was a Great Being the entire time. I was just thinking that everything that happened in the storyline was his PLAN the entire time. Let me explain. The Great Beings sure did seem to mess up a lot of their creations, didn't they? For such brilliant minds, their inventions had some pretty big flaws in them that none of them seemed to notice in the developing stage. I was thinking that Velika might have actually sabotaged or modified those creations into what they are now. A big example of this is with the Matoran, Toa, etc. How does an AI glitch bring about the incredibly complex personalities of ALMOST EVERYTHING IN THE MATORAN UNIVERSE?! Furthermore, how do beings originally built to just be drones maintaining a giant robot have destinies? That just does! Not! HAPPEN! ...Unless of course, if it was Velika's plan to re-program all of them so that everything would play out like he wanted it to. You could argue that certain things that happened to him in the Matoran Universe wouldn't be beneficial in the long run, but where did it get him? One of only a few Great Beings left, on a world that's still trying to adjust to major changes, where he has arguably far more sanity and intelligence than almost anyone. In other words, prime conditions for him to take over, with him none the worse for wear. I could definitely be wrong, but it just seems to make a lot of sense to me.
  18. I have no idea if this has already been asked or not, either way, it's good to figure things out in this topic about the Bionicle Universe. I remember looking at TSO in Biosector 01, and see that he has three legs. Then I look at his pic that they use, and don't see that 'leg' anymore when he's siting on his throne. So that made me wonder, is that really a leg, or is it a tail?
  19. Takanuva had Light and Shadow powers when his light all most was drained. But what if other Toa could possess two or more elements without having such a painful reaction with a horrible lab experiment. What are your thoughts?
  20. This was a series of scribbles with the theory of "What if the Toa Mata/Nuva became Turaga?" after noticing that the Phantoka Matoran wore noble versions of Pohatu, Kopaka and Lewa's masks (I've been out of the loop with Bionicle for a while, and had just gotten back into it ^^; ) So, to start off here's Lewa, Kopaka and Pohatu. Then there's Onua, Gali and Tahu. Had to do some redesigning of the masks here as they didn't get official Noble versions. Onua's is a simplified version of his Mistika mask, while Gali's is a mixture of her Mata, Nuva and Mistika masks. Tahu's was done with Turaga Lhikan in mind, with some minor elements of his Mistika form. I also gave them their Nuva Symbols and silver versions of the Turaga's mechanisms, just for that little bit of distinction.
  21. I had a random thought on how a Bionicle character would create diamond. Since diamond is made with heat and pressure, I figured a Toa of Fire wearing a Kanohi Garai could take a lump of charcoal and heat it while increasing the gravity around it to quickly and easily create diamond. What do you think?
  22. I've had this theory ever since I first saw hero factory, and now that I'm up to date on it, I am even more intrigued. My theory is this: Hero Factory and Bionicle are both set in the same universe. Seem far fetched? Well here is the story line I've worked out. It is well known that the great beings survived past the destruction of Spherus Magna as there are some whom are still alive in the Bionicle cannon, what I think is that when Spherus Magna broke apart, one great being decided to leave the galaxy all together and create a new world for himself. This isn't too hard to imagine as great beings have free will and cirtainly have the intellect. That beings name was Akiyama Makuro, the founder of the hero factory and, to quote HS01, "[T]he oldest known robot in the galaxy." There he found the same substance used by the great beings on Spherus Magna to create what the Matoran would call Toa Stones, but what he called Quaza. He found that you didn't have to use the quaza to transform a small, simple biomachanical creature into a larger, more powerful one, but you could use cylindrical cores of quaza to fuel robotic husks and give them life, sentience and, in it's pure form, a powerful will to do justice. So, just like a Toa, but without, as of yet, the ability to fully harness elemental and mask powers. So, I have no idea if this is something that Lego is actually doing, but it seems to fit in quite well, if there are any holes in the theory, let me know and I'll try to address them.
  23. Okay, I didn't see a topic here, but we've all heard Bionicle may return in a few years (I think it was confirmed by Greg), so, if it does return, how would you like it to?Personally, I would like to see kind of a Year One thing, with the Nuva returning with functions, some Rahi/riders to battle (Bota Magna Biomechanical Dinosaurs anyone? ), and then a rebuilt Matoran set, with more new pieces and posability. Maybe throw in a mix of Glatorian and Agori as well, like release Tahu, Lewa, Gali, Skrall, Bota Magna Vorox, and Gelu for one wave (or new Glatorian), and then Ackar, Kiina, Gresh, Onua, Pohatu, and Kopaka for the other. Either way, mounts or vehicles with functions would be my vote.Maybe for the story, we'd need something believable, canon, and that won't drive away older Bionicle fans. Maybe different underground factions of Skrall supporters trying to secretly drive the MU and SM inhabitants apart? I really like the story of mid-Bionicle, with all of those sub-sub-plots and secret groups finally coming to light. Something like that would be cool, but started off slow, so we can get into the story before throwing some crazy plot on us. :DWhat would you like to see in a new Bionicle release? Storyline wise, set wise, etc.?
  24. There are a couple of important guidelines to building and showing off a good MOC here on BZP (or anywhere online; MOCs in person are harder). Bolded sentences are the main points. Read the paragraphs for more detail. It all boils down to what looks good and what does not. MOCing is a subjective art, just like any other art, but there are a few things that I think can be agreed are widely agreed upon as important. Know your Parts. Take a look at this MOC (ToM Dracone's "Chloros"). Notice how there's a recurring motif of ridges on the parts? Take a look at the Metru leg used on the feet, and compare those notches to the ones found on the Metru armor on the leg, to the piece used on the thighs, to the bits used as barrels for the gun, to the Metru armor on the shoulder, even to the base of the antennae. A similar pattern makes the pieces used look like they belong together, even if they were designed years apart. Using a technique like this means that you have to KNOW your parts well, and that comes from practice. Lots of practice. "Custom" matter less than aesthetics. MOCing is about looking good, and it matter less how do it than if you actually do it. Take a look at this MOC. That's built on an Inika body, and features little custom. It still looks supremely awesome. It still looks MUCH better than either of these two MOCs, both with custom bodies (both mine lol). With that said, custom builds do tend to come about as a result of knowing your pieces well, and knowing how parts fit together. Choose your Colors Wisely. I would say that in terms of BIONICLE, there are 2 "base" or "primary" colors: Black and White. Grey is sort of the in-between that can be used even under those. What do I mean? You can layer pretty much any other color on top of those and it will look half-decent, regardless of build quality. Think about it. I'm not going to point at any MOC in particular; pick pretty much anything from the galleries I link below and you'll see what I mean. Standard combinations include Gold/Black, Gold/White, Blue/Black, Blue/White, Green/Black, Red/White, etc. Note that Black and White can be used as "main" colors, but when those two are combined in one creation, you will run into other problems on the photography side of things. Also note that your base does not have to be black OR white; as long as you stay consistent and it looks good, your base can be, for example, red, accented with black. Choose colors that look well together. The problems is, "look well" is a subjective term. It's all on you to make a color combination work. Usually shades of colors go well with each other, such as Red/Orange, Mata Blue/Sand Blue, Mata Green/Lime Green, Brown/Tan. Limit the amount of colors you use. I mentioned above that grey is almost more fundamental than Black or White, and that's because, if used well, you can layer a MOC so the "skeleton" is grey, above that is black/white, and above that is your chosen color. At the same time, if you are planning on accenting your chosen color with something else, count 'em, there are then 4 colors on the MOC. That leads to a lot of competition and your MOC will look way too busy. When accenting, there is too much of a good thing. Let's say you've got your base color and a couple of secondary colors. In this example, our base is grey and our secondary colors would be black and white. The accents (i.e. the eyes) are the only bits of red on the MOC. If there were bits of red sprinkled throughout -- a habit I used to fall into when I was younger -- then the MOC becomes too busy, too messy, for it to look coherent. In this example, the base is black, the secondaries are keetorange and grey. The accents are green, but the green only shows up in places where it makes sense. Long story short, keep your MOC to 4 colors or less, and when you have 4 colors, use the fourth sparingly. Now, you can put together a great MOC, but if I can't see it properly, well, then it's not that great after all. Your photography is extremely important. It's the only way people are going to see the creation you want to show off. Pick almost any MOC from the galleries below, or from the gallery of any really strong MOCist, and you'll see that the pictures are quite minimalist. There aren't any household stuffs in the background; usually the background is one solid color. And that color tends to be the color NOT used as the base color (i.e. if the base is white, then the background is black, like this, and if the base is black, then the background is white, like this.). Hiding flaws is good. Go back and look at that second poorly done custom body MOC (the white one way up near the top, in the section about custom builds). I hid that horrible body with a cloak. Better, but now there's no detail. Take a look at this gallery. Notice how there are no shots of what's going on inside the top portion? That's because if you removed those plates of armor, it would look pretty ugly. So if you MOC looks bad from a certain angle, don't show that! When you are the photographer, and the pictures are the only way we're going to see the MOC, only show what you want to. Overall, you need three things: 1. Use your pieces wisely. Know them, and know them well. Know how they fit together, know what works and what doesn't. Know which ones look similar and which ones don't. Know them well enough, and custom builds (if that's what you want) will come naturally. 2. Use your colors wisely. Limit yourself to three main colors, accentuate with a forth SPARINGLY. If your third color is the accent, even better! (You should still use it sparingly though ) 3. Take good pictures. You can have the best MOC in the world, but if no one can see it properly, it won't matter. In addition, if the back of the creation doesn't look that good, you don't have to take a picture of it. ----- MOC Creds go to Brickeens (Brickshelf: "Brickeens" and "BrickeensBZP") and ToM Dracone (Brickshelf: "MuffinToa")
  25. This is my theory at Agori/Matoran Languages and communication. As everyone knows, or should know, or better know, is that the language in the MU is, well, Matoran. I tried looking up on BS01 to see if any other language is actually spoken in the MU besides Matoran, and that search turned up empty-handed. When the Reformation(or whatever it's "officially" called) happened, the Toa and Glatorians began an attempt to merge the Matoran and Agori populations. Now, I don't know if they spoke the same language, if Mata Nui did some mind-melding on both populations or what, but we do know that the Toa and Glatorians were able to communicate. Matoran, as is believed, is a robotic language. Much like R2-D2, or at least in that neighborhood of language. Agori(and Glatorians) are more organic then metal and gears like the Matoran Universe population. This begs the question: Are their vocal cords organic or is it a mechanical speech box(for lack of a better word. ) like the Matoran? The former is the most likely. With that in mind, it would be near impossible for the Agori to speak Matoran very fluently. Or even clearly. It would be like asking an American Indian, who has only spoken his language his entire life, to communicate with a Japanese man, who also only has spoken his language! There would be no communication except maybe for gestures and the like. Even then, the cultures are so different, the gestures mean different things! Now here's my theory: The Matoran actually don't talk in their robotic language. They actually speak Agori! Their speech boxes are programed to speak Agori. Why? It's simple really! The GB knew that they needed a language for the MU population to use. They didn't exactly have the time to make up a whole new language, now did they? They knew the Shattering was going to happen, so why not just use the language everyone already spoke? Agori. It would solve the communication problem I brought up earlier. With both populations speaking Agori, it would be easier for them to merge together into one population. The language in the MU, Agori, was just named Matoran, for the same reason Agori is named Agori. The Matoran are the largest population group. It makes sense to call the language Matoran. Why call it Vortixx or Skakdi when they make up a smaller group of the total population? TL;DR? Matoran actually speak Agori. Now, I do realize I didn't use the technical terms, but I think I got my point across. Go ahead and pick it apart, I know you people will. If you guys are confused, I'm sorry, but I can only explain it to you, I can't understand it for you. Thanks for reading.
