  1. Hi, guys! I see that constraction is gone this year. No sign of them in toy fair this year, either. You know, in this decade, constraction was getting weaker and weaker until it’s gone this year. It’s shocking to look at it this way. I bet constraction are complaining about it right now. Why does constraction deserve this terrible fate? Lego shouldn’t have done this. I think Lego is so busy with other Lego themes and has budget issues while Ninjago, The Lego Movies, Star Wars, and the Super Hero themes are popular. First, Bionicle G1 is gone, then Hero Factory, and lastly Bionicle G2. There’s no replacement for Bionicle G2, and their stories are unfinished. This is a cruel world we all live in now. (Crying in tears of sadness) To be honest, without constraction, I don’t know what to buy from Lego. I felt like that I have no great purpose in my life that makes me happy (Ninjago is something that I follow though, even though that I am more of a constraction person than a playset person, to be honest, but I like the TV show). We are in a dark age/Great Depression, y’all. I hope that Lego will bring the constraction category back somehow. Bionicle deserves a lot more praise and respect because it is one of Lego’s most popular themes in history and it saved Lego from babkruptcy when it began. Hero Factory is an okay theme, but I feel it could have potential, like Bionicle, and needed some improvement to fix things up. I hope that Lego could satisfy the fans by bringing back Bionicle G1 a little bit just to finish up the G1 story to resolve its unresolved stuff. Same goes to HF and Bionicle G2. Plus, a good Bionicle G3, HF G2, a Sonic Generations-equse crossover with Bionicle G1 and G2, a Bionicle and Hero Factory crossover and cinematic universe-equse theme in terms of story, good TV shows that are like Ninjago (like have 10-13 TV episodes per season while the season is based on a storyline), but be more accurate to the sets and have 3D animation be good 3D animation in the style of Transformers: Prime), either good 3D animated theatrical movies or theatrical live-action movies with humans and the planet Earth as the constraction themes’ own cinematic universe (in the more child-friendly style of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not the wacky The Lego Movies), and good TT Games Lego video games with console versions (in the style of the Super Heroes games, not The Lego Movie 2). I mean, I think the constraction deserve to have these good stuff. I feel that they have that potential. So, what do you think, guys? Man, I need these themes back in my life.

  3. Pinhead, the brains of the group, cares little for his simpleminded partner Armstrong's constant rambling about rabbits... https://imgur.com/a/rgihv79 (more photos) Two MOCs who weren't originally meant for each other. Armstrong was originally meant for a group build and Pinhead was originally named Plague Mech: Fire Ant.
  4. Hi, guys! Since Bionicle G2 ended abruptly and rudely in 2016, there is no constraction replacement with an original story by Lego now (Not like how Hero Factory replaced Bionicle G1 in 2010). Let's talk about the history of constraction. The first constraction theme is Slizers/Throwbots in 1999-2000, and it has elements from a Lego theme called Technic. It was replaced by the second constraction theme called RoboRiders in 2000. This theme also ended in the same year. These dudes lasted shortly, and they barely have stories. RoboRiders is replaced by the very theme that we and love, Bionicle G1 in 2001-2010. This one is the most successful and famous of the constraction themes, and it has an epic story. The theme got a lot of media, including four direct-to-video movies, chapter books, comics, online serials, video games, and online games. There's also music videos promoting the theme's certain storylines. The building system in Bionicle changed over time to become better. Sadly, this theme ended in 2010 probably because Lego had money problems in 2010, and its story hasn't ended as it stopped in 2011. It then got replaced by Hero Factory in the same year. Like Bionicle, it has a story and is successful, but it is second most successful of the constraction theme and has the second best story in the constraction themes. The theme has a TV show with 22-minute episodes, online and app games, chapter books, and comics. It also introduced the Character and Creature Building System, or CCBS for short, in 2011. HF ended in 2014 probably because Bionicle came back as a reboot called G2 in 2015. HF had waning successfulness for some reason, anyway. Also like Bionicle G1, HF's story hasn't ended, sadly. As for Bionicle G2, it had online animated videos that tell the main story, chapter books, graphic novels, and a Netflix show with 4 22-minute episodes. Sadly, Bionicle got cancelled again abruptly and rudely in 2016 for some reason (I mean, we just got it back). Well, G2's successfulness was declining, anyway. it's like the Amazing Spider-Man movie series in 2012-2014 all over again. The replacement for G2 never happened in 2017 or this year for some reason. Right now, there are Star Wars constraction still being made nowadays, even though there are a few sets each year. Of course, there are more Lego themes that are sort of like constraction, which are Galidor, Knights Kingdom, and Exo-Force, all in the 2000s. Lego Ben 10 was like that, too. When CCBS happened, many playset themes in the 2010s used it, and they are Super Heroes, Legends of Chima, and currently Star Wars. Ones before Star Wars lasted shortly. Plus, there are some other themes that are like constraction, but they are made of bricks, and these themes are Mixels in 2014-2016 and Nexo Knights' mech sets in 2017. To sum this up, I would say that constraction has been going on from 1999 to 2016 by original Lego themes (It's been like 17 years). It seems that constraction is failing this decade (might explain the Bionicle G1, G2, and Hero Factory's problems with waning successfulness.). Right now, people are interested in Ninjago (this decade's minifgure equivalent to Bionicle), Lego Super Heroes, Lego Movies, and Star Wars primarily. Boy, things aren't looking too good for constraction. The Lego constraction themes were keeping the category alive, but with no replacement, it's getting weaker. We don't even know when will the replacement come. Now, that's where we are going to talk about how would you like the replacement to be if it could happen. So, yeah, how would you guys like it to be? Well, for me, I have some ideas: 1. Something similar to Bionicle by using the building systems in 2001-2003 and 2006, and all figures should have bendable limbs. Don't make them look too weird or faulty designs on the joints (the Bionicle 2016 sets have this problem), and give the sets good color schemes. Also, their final designs shouldn't leave anything out (Bionicle's Caparar and Nuparu Mahri in 2007 have this problem by abandoning their weapons. You could look at Kongu Mahri because he never kept his main weapon, too.). Make all the sets equal in every way, like having all masks in many possibilities (Bionicle G2 and probably Hero Factory has this problem. Not every G2's Toa has a Skull foe to fight or mask to recover, specifically, for example.). 2. If either Bionicle G3, Hero Factory G2, or a completely new theme, it or they should have a good story, as good as Bionicle G1 or Ninjago, and if or they could use references about other original Lego constraction themes for fun. Or A theme that is a constraction equivalent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where original Lego constraction themes, Bionicle, Hero Factory, Slizers/Throwbots, and RoboRiders, have a crossover by sharing the same universe and work together to fight evil Avengers-style. Either way, this theme should have humans and Planet Earth in there. If that crossover theme, it would be called "Lego Constraction Universe". Here are my ideas about that, too: - Phase 1: -- First year would be --- Winter - Bionicle - Toa Mata/Toa Masters as the main heroes who can keep their personalities and elemental powers from G1 (Lewa being a Toa of Air again). It's optional to have Pohatu having a Batman-like personality from G2 because I love it. Lol. The main villain would be any Bionicle villain, not a new one. At the end of that storyline, there would a foreshadowing thing that hints crossover. --- Summer - Hero Factory - The first six Heroes as the main characters and can keep their personalities from their G1, not like Invasion From Below (because they were just acting like Stormtroopers from Star Wars). Main villain would be Black Phantom. It would be cool if there are some Bionicle references and Easter Eggs in there, and would still do the same foreshadowing thing. -- Second Year: --- Winter - Slizers/Throwbots - Characters stay the same as their G1, but with an actual story and better character development. There would be references and Easter Eggs from the other themes. Again, foreshadowing thing happening. --- Summer - RoboRiders - Same as Slizers, but also with an identified villain. Again, there would be references and Easter Eggs from the other themes and the foreshadowing thing happening, but this thing hint an Avengers-equse crossover next year. -- Third Year. It would be like the Avengers movie in 2012, where the main heroes from the previous themes (at least Tahu from Bionicle, Preston Stormer from Hero Factory, good-hearted Slizer leader, and good-hearted RoboRider leader. They're all leaders.) working together and form a special team to stop Black Phantom from collecting magical cube-shaped objects, which the themes hinted in the past and found on the heroes' worlds and Planet Earth, to try to take over the whole universe. I picked Black Phantom to be the main villain because I would love to see him as a mix of Avengers' Loki and Steppenwolf from the Justice League movie in 2017 by wearing a horned helmet like those villains and being Hulk-from-Marvel-sized like Steppenwolf. BP would have new villains or minions (from other themes, and not completely new villains) to assist him. There would be six worlds that Black Phantom would travel to to search for the six cubes, one cube in each world, which are Spherus Magna and the Great Spirit Robot from Bionicle, Makuhero City from Hero Factory, the Slizers' world, the RoboRiders' world, and the Planet Earth. The cubes would either be either the Doom Box(es) from Hero Factory's first chapter book or not, and BP would use them for his evil plan to take over the universe. The heroes would have a boss to guide them, whether be a certain Turaga from Bionicle, Mr. Makuro from Hero Factory, or someone else. The heroes would have new looks, like the Toa being in their Toa Uniter forms. The Slizers and RoboRiders would also kind of act like Dinobots from Transformers to other heroes by being clumsily destructive. Lol. End of Phase 1 - Phase 2 -- Fourth year: Bionicle - The Toa Mata becoming Toa Nuva (but Tahu would stay that way in this story this time) and fight against a new villain. Heroes and villains from other themes would appear in there as cameos or with major appearances. This villain would smuggle and use technology from other themes and this one, too. Imagine the Piraka got some stuff from some Hero Factory villains, like Von Nebula or Black Phantom, for example? -- Fifth year: Hero Factory - The Heroes getting their 2.0 upgrade to fight against a new villain. Heroes and villains from other themes would appear in there as cameos with major appearances. This villains would smuggle and use technology from other themes and this one, too. Imagine Von Nebula's or Black Phantom's gangs of villains getting weapons from some Bionicle villains, like the Brotherhood of Makuta, and Vortixx's Xian weapons from Bionicle? Also, add New, Eco, and Rocka in there. -- Sixth year: Another crossover year - The team of heroes go fight against a villain, like Von Nebula, Makuta Teridax, or Velika from Bionicle. If Makuta Teridax, he would be like Ultron from Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2016 by infecting technology. Either of these bad guys would be this theme's equivalent to DC Comics' Darkseid and Marvel's Thanos by being one or two of the heroes' toughest and worst villains. The Toa would get Adaptive Armor from Bionicle, the Hero Factory Heroes would be in their Breakout looks, and the heroes would use each other's technologies to make themselves better in fighting than how they usually do. End of Phase 2 - Phase 3 -- Seventh year - Bionicle vs. Hero Factory - Someone evil made Toa and Hero Factory Heroes fight each other. It would be like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 (but much better) and Captain America: Civil War in 2016. Imagine Tahu, Toa of Fire, and Stormer, Hero who use ice, fight each other like this, for example? Stormer would be like Batman while Tahu would be like Superman. The Heroes would use equipment that use the Toa's weaknesses to beat them while the Toa Nuva use Adaptive Armor and their smarts to counter the Heroes' attacks, even if the Heroes' technology is more advanced than the Toa's. -- Eighth year - Slizers vs. RoboRiders - Someone evil made those heroes fight each other. Same hero-vs.-hero scenario, but with these guys, instead. -- Ninth (maybe final) year - After the heroes got over their wars with each other, they had to fight against their greatest villainous foe, who would be either Von Nebula, Makuta Teridax, Velika, or someone else completely new and responsible for the theme's events just to do his master plan, which is to collect 1-7 magical artifacts that could allow him to take over the universe. It would be like DC Comics superheroes fighting Darkseid and Marvel superheroes fighting against Thanos, even in Avengers: Infinity War coming this year. That would be a big final battle. End of Phase 3 Maybe end of the whole theme because Bionicle G1 lasted for nine years, so I thought it would be okay for Lego to end the theme after this time. I pick the idea of the crossover because Lego is not doing well with making new franchises for the constraction category now (Look at Hero Factory's Invasion From Below and Bionicle G2), so I thought reusing old stuff would make something new out of them. Plus, people wouldn't say silly stuff, like "Stormer is my favorite Bionicle", which is not true about Stormer (a friend of mine once said that. Lol.). I would say that a shared universe like this would be a huge improvement for the old themes and probably the constraction category as a whole. It's called a renaissance. 3. A TV show with 10-13 22-minute episodes per season. No Netflix, and the show would be on Cartoon Network or Disney XD, and the primary source of story that shows character development greatly and better than other media. Make all characters in their sets equal to each other in every way in all media (Bionicle G2 and Hero Factory have this problem. Kopaka never had his mask stolen, specifically, for example). Don't make stuff in the story look confusing, not even to the sets, and don't make too silly. Just have a good amount of comedy and a super-great and dominant amount of action. Also, no unresolved stuff, rude cancellations, or rushing before the theme ends. Plus, a theatrical movie(s), which could be either a Lego Movie with positive reviews this time (unlike The Lego Ninjago Movie, which sort of disappointingly got mixed reviews) or a live-action or 3-D animated movie with human and the Planet Earth, similar to Transformers, but with constraction characters and always positive reviews, like the Avengers. Also, constraction-based Lego TT Games video games with positive reviews (and make every boss-looking antagonists bosses with boss meters, and make the game be open-world, like the Lego City Undercover, the Lego DC Comics games, and the the Lego Marvel games). Online games would include something similar to Bionicle's Mata Nui Online Games and Voya Nui Online Game. The chapter books, comics, and online serials would just be side stories or re-tell the stories from the TV show or movie(s). Do not make sets for characters that aren't too important in the story (Bionicle G1's 2007, 2008, and 2009 characters, like Lesovikk and Mazeka, sort of have problems with that, for examples. However, they can be shown in cameos if they aren't too important). Again, the TV show's great way of telling stories must apply to all of the other media. For the animation or whatever look on the constraction characters, there would be a mix of certain animation styles. They would have realistic parts of their bodies, like the first three Bionicle direct-to-video movies, looking very accurate to the sets, like Bionicle: The Legend Reborn, Hero Factory TV show, and Bionicle: Journey to One, but to the sets' final designs specifically rather than the prototypes (B:TLR and HF have this problem). Make them look 3-D animated, like all four Bionicle direct-to-video movies and HF, rather than looking 2-D-3-D mixed (like Iron Man: Armored Adventures and Transformers: Robots in Disguise in 2015. B:tJtO has this problem.). No drawing-like 2-D animation as the main animation style (Bionicle G2's online animations in 2015 have this problem). Nothing in the media or sets go missing, so everything should be there. Give the constraction characters pupils. Think of this as a Transformers: Prime animation style. For actors in TV shows, I prefer famous ones from Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, B:tLR, and/or HF TV show (Hero Factory's Invasion From Below episode and B:tJtO have actors that we don't know, and the Bionicle 2015 online animations only have one actor voicing everyone. Weird.). For actors in theatrical movies, use celebrities from the Lego Movies. 4. For the combiner models, give all sets a chance to be in a combiner in every way (Bionicle's Sidorak and Roodaka never combined, which is an example of a problem). All-members-in-a-group combiners should happen, like having all six Toa Mata combine into a Toa Nui, for example. Don't make combiners look too weird, and I would like them to be in the story somehow, like fusion of members of a team. 5. For terms of money, small sets should be $5-7, medium sets $10-12, and large sets at least $15-20 or more. Bionicle G2 has this money problem. Also, bring back the titan combiner sets (Bionicle G1's Takutanuva, Ultimate Dume, Voporak, and Vezon and Kardas are such sets). For the instruction manuals, make the pictures 3-D in at least the small and medium sets again, like Bionicle G1's early years. Also like those years, have manuals show instructions for the combiners again. It would be neat if the canisters are brought back. Don't make the small and medium sets too chunky by amounts of pieces (Bionicle G2 probably has this problem). So, yeah, that's all I can think of. This is an ideal thing for me, and I would like everything to be perfect. I know it's a lot of stuff that I said, but that would do. What about you guys' dream constraction themes, too?
  5. Hi, guys! I know that Bionicle G2 ended last year, there is no replacement theme with an original story by Lego like Hero Factory, and you guys are talking about how did that happen. Well, we don’t know how, but I can tell you a theory: Since Lego said that it was their business decision to cancel G2, I would think that Lego is focusing other Lego things in 2017, so they had to get Bionicle and another theme called Mixels out of the way. Thus, these Lego things look like that they replaced Bionicle. The things are: 1. Star Wars theme - There’s constraction, and there’s a big wave of sets every year. Plus, there’s this new non-canon TV show called Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. Man, I know that there are new SW movies coming out, but the TV show isn’t necessary much in my opinion. 2. Nexo Knights - a big theme for 2-3 years so far, and it replaced Legends of Chima. However, not everything in there is equal, and the TV show is getting less and less views. I believe it’s gonna end in 2018. 3. Ninjago - I respect the theme. There’s a lot of stuff in there, but the TV show is getting less and less views when Season 7 happened for some reason and the movie got mixed reviews for some reason. 4. The Lego Batman Movie - A lot of stuff. 5. BrickHeads - Those new silly-looking and non-flexible Lego counterparts of Funko Vinyl toys. They may have licensed stuff, but I kind of look at them as the replacement of Bionicle and Mixels because they are figures. Man, this year, 2017, is big with these guys. Lego sure have trouble with priorities, which led to the downfall of many Lego themes in this decade, including Bionicle. What Lego thing do you think replaced Bionicle this year?
  6. Hi, guys! Anyway, let me tell you some history about Lego's main constraction category in the 2010s: In the first half of 2010, Bionicle 2001-2010 ended with six small-ish sets with unbendable limbs. It's sad to see my beloved and long-running favorite Lego theme ended during this day. In the second half of 2010, Hero Factory replaced Bionicle as the main constraction theme. It went from 2010-2014. It ended with some unresolved cliffhangers. In 2015, Bionicle returned as Bionicle G2, which is a reboot to Bionicle 2001-2010. It was an exciting day for us Bionicle fans. However, G2 lasted two years, from 2015 to 2016, as it was cancelled in 2016 and never had its planned third year. It was unfair and very disappointing. It's like The Amazing Spider-Man movie series in 2012-2014 all over again. After 2016, there is no main contraction theme with an original story by Lego replacing Bionicle G2 right now. Because of this, we are encountering a Dark Age/Great Depression to the constraction category now. I mean, this decade is pretty bad for the constraction category for some reason. So, like the title says, which main 2010s constraction theme do you like better? Hero Factory or Bionicle G2? I know that both aren't as great as Bionicle G1, but which do you think is better? For me, I think both sort of. Bionicle G2 is, well, you know, Bionicle, and has fantastic trans-color pieces, masks, and blades in the sets, and the story ended this time. Plus, we got a Bionicle TV show (well, in Netflix, annoyingly). Hero Factory, however, has a lot of cool villains, the heroes have fantastic technology, has a better story than Bionicle G2, and has more TV 22-minute episodes. But, I might go with Bionicle G2 the most because again, it is, well, you know, Bionicle.
  7. So, I picked up both of the latest Star Wars ulrabuilds at my local Target a couple of days ago. Here's a let's build/review of the Stormtrooper Commander for anyone who's interested!
  8. Hi, guys! We all know that Bionicle ended last year and there is no constraction theme with an original story by Lego this year for some reason. So, what I am going to say is this: is this a Dark Age/Great Depression for the Constraction category? First, I would like to talk about the history of Constraction. In the 1990's, Lego was suffering money problems that involve bankruptcy and it wanted to have its own action figure line(s), so we got Slizers/Throwbots on 1999-2000. That theme was the first constraction theme (constraction is an action figure that is made by Lego as it is made of Lego pieces. Also, the word "constraction" comes from "construction" and "action"). Then, we got RoboRiders on 2000, which replaced Slizers/Throwbots. Sadly, these two themes did not do well and probably never helped Lego with its bankruptcy problem. However, Lego introduced the theme that we know and love, Bionicle on 2001, and that theme saved Lego from bankruptcy. It went from 2001 to 2010, as it became popular, had a lot of sets, a large and excellent story, and a lot of media to promote the sets. The theme was beloved by many, including us. Bionicle had became famous and one of the longest Lego theme runs on record. Lego was going to continue the line to 2011 or so, but it suffered problems with Bionicle for some reason (probably money) in 2009, so it had to cancel Bionicle on the first half of 2010. We complained about it. However, Greg Farshtey, the writer of Bionicle books, comic books, and online serials, continued the story up to the first half of 2011 with two unfinished serials, which lead to an unresolved cliffhanger, which upset us. Also in the early half of 2010, we got Ben 10 constraction figures, which ended on the same half for some reason. On the second half of 2010, Lego released Hero Factory, the second-best constraction theme we got, as it replaced Bionicle, but it did cheer us up for the loss of Bionicle. On 2011, Hero Factory introduced us to CCBS, which stands for Character and Creature Building System. This new system influenced other System-based themes, like DC Superheroes, Marvel Superheroes, Legends of Chima, and Star Wars, to use it to have their own constraction figures for generations to come. Back to Hero Factory, the theme got the constraction theme's first TV show. Sadly, the theme is decreasing gradually in value until it ended on 2014. And that's where Bionicle returned on 2015, and it replaced Hero Factory. Bionicle's return made us super-happy (I cried in tears), since, you know, we love Bionicle. This time, it rebooted into G2, as it got a new story. This ran from 2015 to 2016. Along the way, Bionicle was adapt to CCBS, and got its first TV show, Bionicle: The Journey to One. Very sadly, Lego cancelled Bionicle again for some strange reason. Lego never said why. This cancellation broke our hearts and upset us again. Boy, what an outrage. I felt like that it is like The Amazing Spider-Man movie series in 2012-2014 all over again. (Here's the link: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/23229-bionicle-g2-and-the-amazing-spider-man-movies-are-alike/ ) However, from 2012 to this year, Greg was revealing a lot of secrets and resolving some things in Bionicle's G1 story after he stopped updating new chapters in the unfinished serials. Sadly, he never re-continued it. Since Bionicle G2 abruptly ended on 2016, there is no constraction theme with an original story by Lego right away this year. Hero Factory replaced Bionicle G1 right away, but why not there a theme replacing Bionicle G2 this year? The only constraction sets that we are getting this year are a few Star Wars ones. Interesting about Bionicle, again, is that it was featured in The Lego Movie on 2014 and this year's The Lego Batman Movie as cameos. It seems that Bionicle is remembered due to its popularity in its G1 years. It's interesting that we are usually getting less and less constraction-related sets and media in general every year gradually. Bionicle G1 had the largest amounts of them each year until 2010. This year has the least amount of constraction stuff in general. So, I have a question that might go to everyone's minds: Is constraction failing in this decade? Well, I could think of a couple reasons how is that happening: 1. Lego is focusing on certain themes, like Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Ninjago, Nexo Knights, and The Lego Movies, lately. They put a lot of stuff in there, like NK's scannable Nexo powers and minifgure-controlled mechs. These themes' huge popularity apply there, too. Lego is focusing on these themes more often than the constraction category. 2. The low budget on constraction for some reason. So, what do you think guys? Are we encountering the Dark Age/Great Depression of constraction? For me, I'm afraid I think so.
  9. Whenever any discussion about Bionicle's gender ratio, or the role of female characters in the story comes up, it almost always comes back to : "Bionicle is a line aimed predominantly at young boys, who have little interest in female characters." But does it have to be that way? Could Bionicle- or, something like it- appeal to a larger female audience? I believe it could, if things were done a little differently. So, I'll put to you two different pitches: 1. The first is Bionicle, more or less as it was, but with a few changes made to the story, characters and marketing designed to appeal to a broader audience of both boys and girls. 2. The second is a new line of story-driven "constraction" toys (buildable figures), that are specifically designed to appeal to a mostly-female audience. Would either of these work? Which one would you prefer? What kind of changes would be necessary to attract girls? I personally would opt for the first one, with the changes consisting mostly of having more female characters, and preferably having all the Matoran elements be both genders. Maybe also have more time to focus on characterisation in the story, and have a TV series to attract a wider audience. Note: This is based on an old topic of mine that I made last year. The response I got then was mostly a negative one. However, given that half of BZP is now obsessed with some show about a purple unicorn who learns lessons about friendship every day, I'm curious to see if I get a more positive reaction this time.
  10. Now that G2 has unfortunately and prematurely been axed, Star Wars is the only line holding the constraction torch that we know of. I don't remember the exact source, but it has been said in the toxic and pungent thread related to that piece of news that Lego is still committed to CCBS and constraction. But what does this mean? Will constraction be a Star Wars only thing with significantly more sets? Will it be Star Wars only with the same amount or fewer sets due to a seemingly lessened interest in constraction? Will an existing licensed theme get CCBS sets? Will an existing original theme get CCBS sets? Do you think Lego will kick off an all-new original or licensed, constraction-only line? Could CCBS be axed as well in favor of a new constraction system? Will Hero Factory come back? (joking...) As I see it, the seeming lack of popularity of Bionicle will lure Lego into tacking constraction onto an existing line that is popular enough to make the sets sell simply because of the theme's logo on the box. This could be either very good or very bad, meaning that CCBS Nexo Knights would be very good and CCBS Ninjago would be very bad. Horribad. Abominable. I'm hoping they don't cut back on constraction, since it's the only thing Lego I care about and I refuse to buy Star Wars sets on principle alone. I guess the chances of an all-new original theme dedicated to constraction are slim, but I'd love to see a hard sci-fi space opera setting for some space-themed CCBS sets. Like Mass Effect, but child-friendly. Or, you know, Lego Mass Effect. I'd love that. Anyway, what do you think? What will the future of CCBS, or constraction as a whole be?
  11. In a few hours it will be exactly a week after the unexpected collapse of Bionicle Generation 2. While this event, cataclysmic to our beloved hobby, has answered a few questions, it has created many more new questions that loom over not only Bionicle, but over constraction as a whole. We know that Generation 2 has collapsed and I think that we can be certain that LEGO wouldn't have cancelled Bionicle if Bionicle was a success - in fact, if they cancelled it so quickly, unexpectedly and in defiance of their earlier plans, it must have been, financially speaking, extremely unsuccessful. I am quite certain that if it were only a minor unsuccess they would have merely decreased its production and stocking and not cancel it. The end of Generation 2 seems to indicate that the line must have been a true massacre unsuccess Which brings me to what we don't know - to the main question why I created this thread - What has failed? Was it Bionicle? Or was it constraction itself? Now the thing that really put this big question mark into my head was this tweet: This is a tweet released by the LEGO group itself. I really find it hard to believe that they wouldn't have contingency plans for a sudden collapse of one of their lines - you don't get to be the leader in the toy market without covering all the angles. They had exact financial figures so, unlike us, they had to see this coming. Yet they don't have a replacement for Bionicle. I can think of several interpretations of this kinda vague tweet - one of them being that this failure might have been something bigger than just Bionicle. What if constraction as a whole is dying? Truth is, this tweet seems to suggest that for the first time in many years, there won't be a constraction exclusive theme around. Now this is obviously mere speculation on my part - I am not saying that I know something about this issue, I am merely highlighting that I don't know what's happening and that I am puzzled by it. And because I am puzzled by this I would like to hear the opinions of other forumers, so please share your thoughts and maybe we can get some answers in this sea of proto .... ehm, I mean in this sea of questions
  12. To start off my return to BZP, I'd like to post a thread of something I've been thinking of recently. It's been a while since the old Kingdom Knights contraction sets came out (13 years actually, wow, that's a while) and looking at recreating my self-MOC, I was wondering if Nexo Knights could possibly have the potential to get it's own constraction line using CCBS? I'd absolutely love to get some knight masks for my self-MOC and others.
  13. So, it's recently been announced that DC Comics is introducing a new series aimed at young girls, and that Lego will be heavily involved with the merchandise. While I think it's reasonable to expect some minidoll sets out of this, I'm wondering if there's anything else in the works. What particularly caught my eye in the announcement was the mention of poseable, free-standing action figures to be produced in addition to more traditional "dolls." The use of the term "action figure" in relation to a toy for girls is pretty much unheard of, so I'm wondering if Lego is going to be involved with this. Their recent forays into more humanoid CCBS builds- particularly Star Wars- make me think that they are more capable than ever before of pulling off something like that. ... thoughts?
  14. This. Plus also we get a non-bootleg Darth-Vader helmet. We can now make replicas of the Rahagvaders out of legit Lego pieces now lol. Go right ahead. So we have Star Wars contraction sets coming for the summer. This press release gives us some of the details, including the price ($19.99 USD). IMO this suggests they are banking on the brand name to charge a premium, but the sets may be worth the price. This news article tells us who will be featured: What do you think? Go!
  15. There were seven Legends of Chima constraction sets released this year, but they never made it over to North America. BZPower is considering getting a bunch of these sets to do an online parts draft for you guys. (For more information about what a parts draft is, check out this topic.) We're trying to gauge interest on which set you guys like the most and think has the best pieces to draft. The options, in case you've forgotten, are: 70206 CHI Laval 70207 CHI Cragger 70208 CHI Panthar 70209 CHI Mungus 70210 CHI Vardy 70211 CHI Fluminox 70212 CHI Sir Fangar Let us know which set you'd be interested in drafting, if any. The sooner you let us know, the sooner we can get the draft underway. If there's relatively little response, the draft will likely not happen. Feel free to ask any questions or explain your answer below!
  16. I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this topic, but it was inspired by Bionicle discussion. There's been a lot of arguing back and forth about if sexism even exists in Bionicle/Lego. I thought "yes, this is a problem, but I want to DO something about it, not just post on a forum". There have been many discussions about the representation of women in Bionicle. And while I agree that it is frustrating, Lego is (probably) going to continue to market Bionicle as a "boys line" and as a result a majority of the characters will still be male, and, realistically, we will never have a 50/50 ratio. What I think is more likely to happen however, is a separate buildable figure line aimed at girls. Lego Friends or Elves Ultrabuilds could be a thing, or it could be an entirely new concept. My initial thought was magical girl warriors based on fantasy creatures. I'm imagining a lot of pink, purple, azure and other "girly" colors for bones and shells, new human-like heads with hair pieces, and even some pieces with glitter in them. We'd get a lot of cool weapon, armor, and wing pieces that would be great for MOCing. And I know many of us want more purple anything. Though it would be a separate line, it would be interchangeable with Bionicle because they would both use CCBS. Girls would get an action figure experience that was targeted at them, and they might get into Bionicle because of it. Boys might start at Bionicle or Ultrabuilds and then end up liking the "girl sets". AFOLs and MOCers would get bones, shells, and add-ons in rarely-seen colors and be able to add depth to their creations. If only there was a way to garner interest for something like this, because I think it might be the best solution right now. Someone tried to pitch a similar idea on Lego Ideas, but Ideas is only for standalone sets. It wouldn't be a specific idea with a story, just a general concept for a line. Enough people would have to convince Lego that there's a market for girl-targeted action figures. Somehow. So what do you guys think? Do you like this idea, and if it could ever happen, would would it take?
  17. I originally bought the Wave 2 version of Knight's Kingdom's resident villain, Lord Vladek, so I could use his armor plates to spruce up my Antroz figure. Then I decided that Vladek would serve me better on my shelf as opposed to my parts bin. So, with a little Technic magic, the Scorpion Knight has been reborn. 19. So, in light of the news of a new constraction theme in 2015, and with the recent evidence pointing to a possible Bionicle reboot, we must now ask ourselves: What does all this mean for Hero Factory? Hero Factory sales have always been fairly average (sometimes even below average), and it has not been able to gain the huge fanbase that bionicle possessed. However, this years HF sales have done fairly well and proven that HF still has the potential to succeed. Personally, I think lego should keep HF, but also fully shift it over to a system theme (with the occasional constraction mech). This years HF minifigs were incredibly well designed, and were a major factor in this years sales boost for the theme. Lego ought to build on that success with HF system line-up. What do you guys think lego should do with Hero Factory?
  20. As the title asks, which Chima characters do you think would be great as constraction figures? They don't have to be potential future sets, so even minor characters or non-set characters from 2013 would be OK. It can even be an alternate costume of a character who's already been a constraction set, though keep in mind that the costumes, weapons, and color schemes of the constraction models rarely match the corresponding minifigures. From last year's characters, I would love to see a Windra constraction model. Worriz's head piece is not specifically gendered, so it could easily be recolored and printed without facial scars (and maybe even with eyelashes) to represent Windra. Also, her color scheme (same as the Wolf Legend Beast) is awesome! Crug would also be amazing, since his color scheme is so different from the other crocodiles. He could use a brown Cragger head with a silver jaw, and he could use the brown paw pieces from Ogrum as muscular shoulders. Lagravis would be another great character. He's a major character with a color scheme distinct from Laval, the other lion character who has appeared as a constraction set. G'Loona would be fun as a "child" character. But at the same time, a child character wouldn't make a whole lot of sense from a story perspective, since characters like G'Loona, Skinnet, and Wonald are not old enough to use CHI, and the constraction sets are ostensibly supposed to represent the characters' CHI-enhanced forms. Among 2013 characters, it would be great to see the spider tribe leader Spinlyn and the scorpion tribe leader Scorm. Sparacon and Scutter are also interesting spider and scorpion figs, but their story importance is not quite so great, and also I like the idea of one tribe's fig being bipedal while the other has multiple legs. Spinlyn is also a female character, which is great for diversity's sake. A bat like Blista would be cool but not nearly so unique, since there are so many Chima characters with wings. Still, if there were a constraction wave based on this year's first wave, you'd probably want him to complete the villain trifecta. All three could use Tr. Bright Green weapons instead of Tr. Blue or Tr. Red weapons like last year's heroes and villains. Post your own suggestions and how you think they might be able to be designed!
  21. Alphonse Elric By KittehWubbins Now, I attempted to make Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. If you are unfamiliar with the series, then here is a picture of him from the show: So, here is my creation, and unfortunately I was extremely low on bluish gray, so I had to just use dark gray mostly. I could have incorporated HF pieces but I wanted to make this strictly system and technic based. No, unfortunately he is not hollow, but he does have his bloodseal. And yes, I did use 8 Bionicle parts. meh The legs, I tried to make them very thick just like in the show. For the loincloth, I used kleenix put in between pieces. I did my best on the back, it turned out ok. And yes, that is toothfloss for the horse hair. The articulation turned out better than I thought it would. He has a fair amount of articulation in the arms and knees but not the head. Either way, I like it. Please leave some feedback, I intend on improving on it but not for a while. I am satisfied with this and surprisingly the thing that took the longest was the head. I used the same sort of design as that one blue robot from the 2005 robots Creator set. Knights Kingdom also played a big part in this considering all his limbs are composed of them. Thanks.
  22. You know, I fully understand that there are a lot of people who will never like Hero Factory. And I respect that. Tastes differ, after all. But something I'll never understand is how often I hear claims about 2010 Hero Factory sets being better than subsequent series. It seems like selective memory at its finest. Let me refresh your memory: in 2010, there were 15 sets total. Six of those were heroes like this one or this one. Let's run through the features, shall we? Two-piece limbs. The beam is reasonable by Av-Matoran or Agori standards, but Av-Matoran and Agori standards are not very high. The ball cup is prone to breaking (as with the Glatorian heads and fists that these sets also reused), there are very few connection points, and of course it has a molded joint rather than a functional one. The shell is an extremely specialized shape with only one connection point. Some people have found other uses for this piece, but they are few in number, and in general it's pointlessly overspecialized even by BIONICLE standards. . Three-piece torsos. The beam is a nice-looking shape with decent proportions, but its connection points are quite limited. It's a step up from the Av-Matoran and Agori torsos, so I guess it deserves at least that much credit. There were four styles of torso shell (1, 2, 3, 4. Functionally, they were interchangeable, with the same two connection points and the same bulky, highly restrictive shape and size. Again, pitiful even by BIONICLE standards. The Hero Core was purely decorative, and while their single connection point could be used to attach to all sorts of things, they were pretty limited in use except as a specialized torso decoration. . The feet weren't too bad, and I still use the ones I got from Breez in the Breakout series. If used the way these sets used them, they have a disproportionately chunky ankle, but by adding a two-module axle you can make a foot with much more attractive proportions. . As far as weapons were concerned, the rookies (Furno, Surge, and Breez) got the better deal. Each got two weapons with two connection points each. It shouldn't be any surprise that Furno's and Surge's continued to see use in future years. Stormer, Bulk, and Stringer didn't fare so well. Instead of having specialized weapon pieces and specialized limb pieces, their weapon arms were the worst of both worlds. Molded elbows? Check! Only one connection point? Check! Loads of specialized details? Check! They looked all right, at least from the outside, but as building elements they were pretty shoddy. Plus, this meant you got an odd number of fists and limbs. Joy. . The helmets were not really a step down from previous helmets. They looked pretty cool and had lots of personality. It was nice when they came back for 2012. Not so nice that the Glatorian head with its brittle ball cup came back with them. . Did I mention that each of these sets has less than twenty pieces? It's true! And as we just established, many of those pieces are overspecialized and extremely limited in use. The sets are also all built 100% identically except for their weapons. "But that's just six sets! That's not even half!" Well, yes and no. The other sets include six villains, two vehicles (that come with their own lackluster hero clones), and one set that includes both a hero AND a villain. So more than half of the figures for the year are heroes. The villains are pretty good by BIONICLE standards, but they're all humanoid, and the mid-size villains have just 4050 pieces (the Glatorian, Glatorian Legends, Phantoka, and Mistika were the same price, had far more parts on average, and had far more diverse designs to boot). The larger villains, Von Nebula and Rotor, are pretty solid designs, as are the two Technic-intensive vehicle sets. So if you focus on just those four sets, then 2010 was a pretty solid year for Hero Factory! If you look at the year as a whole, though, you have a year of sets that neither lives up to BIONICLE nor goes to great lengths to carve out its own identity. ----- Since 2010, Hero Factory sets have gotten more and more diverse, complex, and creative. The heroes in 2011 each had between 29 and 31 parts and had an armor layout unique to that set. Only one of them, Breez 2.0, used one-piece weapons: every other hero had a more elaborate multi-piece weapon design. The villains had between 48 and 63 pieces, much closer to BIONICLE's standards. Some of the summer villains had non-humanoid builds, and one of them was a massive titan similar in height to 2007's Maxilos or 2008's Takanuva. Furthermore, there was a new building system in which parts were designed to be as intercompatible as possible. Want to stick a torso shell on a limb bone or vice-versa? Nothing's stopping you! Want to attach a limb bone to the midpoint on another limb bone? Go right ahead! This allowed for all kinds of creative builds in the years to come. Oh, by the way, the issue of fragile joints was almost completely eliminated, with only a few legacy BIONICLE parts still using the old, brittle ball cups. 2012 pushed things even further. Instead of all heroes being small canister sets and all villains being larger box sets, there were heroes and villains at all price points. The heroes broke away from formulaic color schemes and equipment Evo's reinforced boots and Tank Arm would not have been possible in the 3.0 series where all the limb shells in a hero set were the same color. All the villains had creative builds and equipment, though the larger villain sets were still humanoid in build and posture. Also, the heroes had helmets, printed torso shells, and equipment specially tailored to them as characters. In BIONICLE, a claim often surfaced that sets were designed first and assigned to existing characters later, hence the discrepancy between different iterations of a character. Nobody could make that mistake about this series. Nex's precision laser, retro helmet design, and communications antenna all spoke to his role as the team's communications specialist, and Evo's heavy-looking boots and Tank Arm spoke to his role as the team's heavy weapons specialist. Likewise with the other heroes: the only one whose gear didn't strongly reflect his role in the team or his previous design sensibilities was Furno. 2013 was not so much of a step forward. The heroes' gear was more uniform, and the villains' builds were consistently humanoid (except for the glorious Dragon Bolt). But the weapons for the sets continued to get more elaborate, and most of the sets integrated action features of some kind (and no, not just launchers). Piece counts continued to increase, and color schemes became more diverse. And this year? The piece counts for the mid-size sets have left all previous mid-size sets (including all BIONICLE canister sets) in the dust. The builds have become incredibly diverse (helped by the fact that there no longer needs to be a humanoid set for every hero). A Hero minifigure has been designed, with excellent proportions and helmets more or less accurate to the full-size heroes. Are the recent Hero Factory sets flawless? No. But when were they ever? Certainly not in 2010, when Hero Factory was still in BIONICLE's shadow, and evoking more of that theme's worst characteristics than its best ones. It's not that there weren't things to like about the 2010 Hero Factory sets. The heroes had endearing proportions and aesthetics. The villains had diverse themes and expressions. And of course, if you like BIONICLE-style titan builds, the theme offered two of those at a reasonable price. But overall, I feel like the year's weaknesses were more crippling than its strengths were redeeming. Design quality has been much more consistent in subsequent years, and for the most part it's been improving.
  23. My entry for a "Before & After Brain Infection" contest on another site. I built both models with the help of my twin brother Lyichir. In their natural form, Koboldon are tunnel goblins with a diet of metallic ore, which they mine for with their powerful, shovel-like claws. They are reclusive, but generally not aggressive. But once the evil brains landed on their home planet, many were mutated into grotesque, hulking fiends that burrow beneath cities, reducing buildings and infrastructure to rubble. Can any hero stand up to the might of Koboldon's radioactive power claw? More pictures: About the MOC: Lyichir and I came up with the foot design for a much larger model a few months ago, and we decided a bestial foot design like this would be perfect for this contest. The head was designed in an effort to create a brain-infected head that looked as detailed and fearsome as any of the official 2013 villain faceplates, but which had a unique character of its own. Lyichir had the idea to use Transparent Bright Green (the same color as the brain) to highlight areas most heavily affected by the mutation, and I designed the power claw with that in mind.Comments, questions, and criticism are welcome! Hope you enjoy this MOC! Edit: Second image was a good bit over the file size limit of 100 kB, so I replaced it with one of the next smallest size. -Wind-
  24. I was Googling the name of LEGO Hero Factory designer Cerim Manovi, one of the designers featured on the "Explaining the Character and Creature Building System" videos on the Hero Factory website, and I happened to find two patents by the three designers featured on those videos. The first patent is for the skeleton elements of the building system itself, the second for articulated figures (action figures) based on that building system.http://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/WO2012052509http://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/WO2012052475I thought some people here on BZPower might appreciate the way these patents are phrased. I feel it truly demonstrates how unique the building system is that it could be patented. It also emphasizes how system is the defining characteristic of this building style-- all the parts are designed to go together in a very particular fashion that allows for the greatest versatility. Click the "Description" tab for the second patent to see a very detailed analysis of why this building system is uniquely advantageous. The "Documents" tab on each page lets you view PDF versions of the patents, which is useful to see the full range of illustrations. They offer some very good insights about the considerations that went into creating this building system!
  25. So, what's your opinion on the various girl-oriented sets released over the years? Paradisa, Clikits, Belville, and the new line, Lego Friends? Is there anything you would really like to see in a "girls' line" (Boys, this includes you, too- perhaps there's a specific part you would like in a colour that tends to be used only in products aimed at girls?)I for one would really like to see a story-driven constraction line (buildable figures) aimed at girls, with a more streamlined, feminine design than Bionicle or Hero Factory. I think it has the potential to include a wide range of styles and colour schemes.
