    Red Sky at Morning

This epic is dedicated to Toa Jaxus as fulfillment of the 2018 Fan Fic Exchange. The requests were to read something interesting that did not contain powerless protagonists. Specifically, it was suggested that I continue the plight of Pohatu and Kopaka on the Red Star. So that's what I ran with. Hope you like it! Chapters will be posted as I finalize their edits. -T Be sure to read The Powers that Be if you have not recently. This epic is a continuation of that serial. __________________________________________________ Chapter 5 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - o O o - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - With the noises outside the room getting louder, Toa Kopaka knew they didn’t have much time. Glancing around the room, he saw piles of scraps, tables covered in bent metal, and jars containing substances he thought better than to ask about. Mavrah had locked the door, but Kopaka wasn’t convinced it would be enough to keep those horrid creatures out. “How long have you been here, Mavrah? What’s going on in this place?” Toa Pohatu asked. The Onu-Matoran moved over to a chair near a table and sat down. He motioned to the two Toa to come over. Kopaka didn’t budge. “How long, I’m not sure,” said Mavrah. “But I’ve been here long enough to have gathered some information from the Kestora.” Kopaka thought back to the three he had frozen moments ago. Mavrah continued, ignoring the scraping and plodding of heavy metal against metal outside. “It turns out the Red Star, which is where we are in case you wondered, is not a Star at all. While it does orbit the planet, it is used by the Kestora as a place to heal those who are wounded in our universe.” “Heal? What do you mean heal?” Kopaka asked. Mavrah shuffled a little. “In truth,” he started, “I’m… well, I’m actually dead.” Kopaka shot Pohatu a concerned glance. Pohatu simply slapped the Matoran on the shoulder. “Little one, you’re as dead as that Toa of Ice,” he said, pointing at Kopaka with a smile. “And I know his heart beats stronger than most in our universe.” Mavrah shuddered at the touch, unused to physical contact, but collected himself. “I mean, I died, back home, in Metru Nui.” Kopaka was glad for a piece of information he understood. “I was washed out to sea after a battle. I remember the earthquake, the destruction, the chaos… I remember Toa Onewa, and the Vahki, and then… nothing.” “Onua? Vahki?” Pohatu said. He couldn’t remember ever facing any Vahki, only hearing about them in stories from the Turaga. “Are you sure you remember correctly?” Mavrah nodded. “Toa Onewa was with the rest of the Toa, and I didn’t understand why they had come,” Mavrah said. “But when Toa Whenua was hurt in the fight –” “Did you say Toa Whenua?” Pohatu asked Mavrah nodded again. He turned to Kopaka. “You don’t think…” “…That this Matoran has been here for more than 1000 years?” Kopaka finished. “We need to find a way out of here.” Pohatu’s eyes betrayed his regular joviality. “I knew I should have changed my mind about coming here back when we had the chance.” - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - o O o - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mavrah finished telling the Toa about the Red Star. It was designed to be a booster for the Great Spirit to visit other planets while looking for a cure for Spherus Magna, but it also served as a sort of repair station for beings from within the Great Spirit who were injured beyond regular repairs. Beings that required extensive repairs – those who seemingly had died, as Mavrah had – would be teleported up to the Red Star, fixed by the Kestora, and then sent back. “But the return mechanism has been broken for so long, according to the Kestora,” Mavrah said. “They blame someone they managed to send back, since it all failed shortly after he left.” Kopaka and Pohatu looked at each other. They knew Mavrah was talking about Gaardus. “What about energy? How have you stayed alive up here for so long?” Kopaka asked. Mavrah pointed to a vent in the center of the ceiling. “These vents are dotted all over the Red Star,” he said. “They give energy to the beings who reside here. Not having to stop and recharge has been very handy for getting more research accomplished!” “I imagine with all your time researching, you’ve seen the teleportation device that they use to send beings back?” Pohatu asked. “Oh yes,” Mavrah said. “I even tried fixing it at one point. Thankfully my mask allows me to blend in with the Kestora well enough, so anytime they might see me at a glance, I look like them. Plus, it helps that I can see well enough in the dark – I don’t have to keep the lights on.” He tapped his purple Pakari. “Can you get us to the teleporter?” Pohatu asked. Mavrah shook his head. “No point,” he said. “It really doesn’t work. We’ll have to find some other way to get you home. Besides, it’s probably crawling with those monsters outside. They’re all over the Star.” “What are those creatures, anyways?” Kopaka asked. “It was dark, but with my Akaku I could see they were… beyond words.” “Those are the remnants of a vast number of beings the Kestora tried to repair,” Mavrah said. “When they could no longer teleport anyone, some of them began experimenting on the new arrivals. I can’t say it necessarily ended well. Kestora weren’t made to create, only to fix.” A sudden slam against the door made Pohatu jump. Mavrah remained calm. “Don’t worry, nothing will get through that door.” The Toa of Stone turned his attention again to the Matoran. “How do you manage to roam around with all of them out there?” Pohatu asked. Mavrah motioned to the other side of the room. “My room is connected to service tunnels,” he said. “The door you came through can’t be opened from the other side anyways. I use the tunnels to get around, retrieve supplies, whatever I need to continue my research in this place.” “We came here looking for answers, not about this place – although it certainly is yet another mystery to ponder,” Kopaka said. “There have been some murders recently back home, and I saw a vision of the Red Star before getting here. If this place really is what you say it is, maybe the beings who were murdered are here. How could we find them?” “If you’re saying you want to find someone that someone else took the efforts to kill, I can’t say you’ll want to find them up here,” Mavrah said. “When the Kestora do their work, beings who arrive here tend to have their circuits a little… scrambled upon arrival.” Pohatu laughed, catching on to Kopaka’s train of thought. “Mavrah, if you knew who we’re looking for, you’d know he couldn’t get more scrambled than he already was.” The Matoran looked curiously at the Toa of Stone, who continued. “Have you heard the legends of Karzahni?” - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - o O o - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Review Topic
  3. uh hey, my name's ostrich and i'm working on making bionicle stop motions. However, my vocal range sucks , so I can only voice Ahkmou and Turahk. I already have most places filled, but I still have some more large roles open! This movie will be a much more character oriented mask of light era series, with the focus being on the attacks of the Rahkshi (who are all unique characters, build and personality wise!), who are my favorite Bionicle villans. While Kopaka, Makuta and Onua are pretty straightforward, Kuurahk is supposed to be kind of insane and laughs alot and Vorahk is the blunt leader. 7. Hello all... As an avid 2001-2003 enthusiast, I was browsing BioncleSector01 until I stumbled across these lovely pictures. I have no idea where they are from and would like to find out. Below are the pictures. If anyone knows anything about these or what they might be from, please let me know. Wonderful aren't they...
  8. Hello Bzpower, and welcome to what I can only describe as the largest collection of runaway imagination that I have ever put together. It all started with an off-hand comment on someone else's picture, which I followed with a satirical picture of my own, then a description that turned into a short story, which spawned a 'sequel' that ended up longer than planned with every chapter... And here we are, Word document upon Word document later. I've been posting this on DeviantArt and the TTV boards for a while now, but have now decided to share it here as well. So, without further ado, I invite you to join me on Spherus Magna, thousands of years after the Reformation, looking through the eyes of a young Toa of Psionics who's about to come face to face with legends of old... legends to whom time has not been kind. Welcome everyone, to... "It is our great folly: we helped create this paradise, but have no reason to exist in it. ...in this world that neither needs nor wants us, we slowly fade away." - Toa Gali Nuva [Review Topic] In 'The Folly of the Toa," I wanted to explore some of Bionicle's most famous characters, the Toa Nuva, from a different viewpoint than the romances, the 'hero's stories' that they usually show up in. I aimed for a downfall instead: a tragedy. Obviously, the Toa Nuva are mighty heroes, but the question quickly arose: what do the heroes do when there's nothing to fight, or no one to fight for? Or, to paraphrase one government official from "The Dark Night Rises" concerning Commissioner Gordon: 'They are war heroes. This is peacetime.' What do heroes, who have known nothing but combat, do in peacetime? Throughout G1's story line, the Toa Nuva accomplish many great deeds and face many dangers, but they certainly aren't without flaws, or as Gali describes them, "...our own demons." They were also always prone to bickering among themselves, but they always had a common enemy to unite them: the Makuta. In the wake of the Battle for Bara Magna and the subsequent Reformation, the Toa managed to keep themselves busy, but sooner or later that lack of an enemy, a threat to face up against, created an opportunity for those demons to rise... And as our protagonist, Lis, will soon find out, they have the power to topple giants. The Chapter List: [The Prologue] Note: when I wrote this, I had no idea how much this story would snowball. Therefore, it was never originally intended as a prologue, but more as a 'journal entry' by Gali, something to go along with a picture to provide some background and explore an idea that arose from that picture's discussion. It's still accurate, however, so I figured sticking it in as the prologue was the most appropriate thing I could do with it. 9. Hello everyone, My local high school is hosting an arts commission festival titled "Films in Five" where you had to create a video that runs 5 minutes or less. My entry for the event is a short adventure skit involving my favorite Toa of Ice, Kopaka. It took about 4 months to create (On and off), and it just got accepted into the festival and will be shown there on October 1st! I'm so excited for other people to see it, especially on the big screen! I wanted to share it with everyone on BZPower too. I hope you enjoy the film, and tell me what you think of it below!
  10. Flickr A combiner model, built only of pieces from 71308 Tahu Uniter of Fire and 71311 Kopaka and Melum Unity Set. This guy came about when I happened to have Tahu and Kopaka (and Melum) sitting on a shelf away from everything else, and it occurred to me that it might be an interesting challenge to try make a decent combiner out of those two apparently clashing sets. I even made it a goal to incorporate a function (in addition to the predictable swivel-waist), and was satisfied in managing to implement a concealable Korgot-style chest launcher. Let me know what you think, and enjoy!
  11. A while ago I was thinking of the differences between the old and the new Kopaka, and eventually I made this. Link: I have to say there's something charming about the old Kopaka, something that the new one is missing. I liked how he didn't need a shiny armor or to be bulky to be one of the strongest and most resourceful Toa of the team. I thought about making one of these drawings for each Toa but I doubt I'll have the time... Comments are very welcome, please let me know what you think!
  12. I started this MOC in... December? It's been so many different things before I finally hit on the overall theme it was leading me to. I wanted to use the Phoenix shield that the fire-themed Chima Laval set came with, but I can't find where I put it to save my life. So boring gold shield it is! Sort of another take on the space in culture where Western and Eastern military and battle costumes have influenced each other back and forth. This one as a more fleshed-out Kopaka concept. I had a good time with this once I knew what I wanted it to be! And who says our Toa of Ice can't use red as a secondary colour??
  13. Hello again, and welcome too... [story topic] Pretty self-explanatory, I think. Post any comments, observations, or reviews concerning "The Folly of the Toa" in this topic. Any questions are also welcome. 15. Kopaka is Elvis Is the King of Rock and Roll also the King of Ice and Snow? Well, when was the last time Elvis Presley and Kopaka were seen in the same room together? Don’t you find it convenient that Kopaka can never seem to recall where he came from? I have been asking myself these very questions for the last 15 years of my life and I have concluded that yes, Kopaka is in fact Elvis Presley. Allow me to explain. Elvis Presley allegedly died in 1977. This gave Elvis 24 years to transform himself into the toa that we now call Kopaka. That is plenty of time for his transformation to take place. While this fact is far from conclusive, it is important to note the methods one takes when disappearing from society and how one hides their identity. 5 Methods of Disappearing Be prepared to start over from scratch- Kopaka started with nothing but his mask, shield, and ice sword.Practice introducing yourself with your new name- "I am Kopaka, and I work under no command" as opposed to, “I’m Elvis baby”Adopt new mannerisms, dress, and behaviors- Cold personality as opposed to charming and outgoingMove far away from friends, family and employers- Went from living at Elvis Presley Blvd, Memphis, TN 38116 to a nonspecific location in Ko-KoroKeep a low profile- While some may consider being a toa of ice a fairly high profile job occupation, Kopaka was known for often keeping to himself and based on statistics from Google trends, the amount of searches for Kopaka from 2005-Present is negligible to that of Elvis Presley’s.http://i.imgur.com/N4ygrOX.png However, despite how convincing the Kopaka persona may be, there are a number of instances in which he has slipped up. For example, in the pictures provided at the end of this report you’ll notice that Elvis, despite his efforts in hiding his true identity, often still possesses many of the same mannerisms as he did as a rock n’ roll hero. You’ll also find that he has a hard time abandoning his classic white color scheme (which progressively gets worse as you’ll notice he started adopting flashier colors such as blue and gold). Now prepare yourself, because this next point may send chills down your spine. In the year 1961, Elvis wrote the song “I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell.” This statement is such a dichotomy from the Kopaka we know today that it’s uncanny. If you notice in the 2015 animation shorts, Kopaka, after allegedly slipping, quickly (almost too quickly) stated, “I didn’t slip!” His haste to correct the doubt in anybody’s mind that he might of slipped only suggests that he is trying to alleviate any suspicion that he might be Elvis (who we know has no problem admitting to slipping). Now this may seem conclusive, but we shouldn’t jump to conclusions too quickly. During the animation, we don’t actually see his feet and his arms move in a manner that doesn’t quite resemble slipping. That is because he didn’t actually slip. In all actuality, Kopaka was breaking into a dance floor move that is commonly seen in many of Elvis’ live performances. After quickly realizing his mistake, he claims that he didn’t slip in order to fool anyone watching into believing that he did in fact slip. However, I am not the first to have come to this conclusion. There is one other who, for many years now, has been spearheading the research of the Kopaka/Elvis conspiracy. And that man is none other than Corny Rempel himself! The voice actor of Kopaka in Bionicle: The Journey to One. Rempel has been an award winning Elvis tribute for 15 years (the same amount of years it’s been since Kopaka first introduced himself). In order to fully understand Elvis’ motives behind faking his death Rempel sought to impersonate Elvis, to live life as he did, so that he may better understand him. Once he was convinced that he fully understood Elvis as we was, Rempel went on to impersonate him again, but this time as who he became: Kopaka Uniter of Ice. Just as with his Elvis impersonation career, he excelled in capturing and taking on the role as Kopaka. It only took 2 episodes for him to come to his conclusion. Even though he still has yet to reveal his findings to the public, he did hint at it after being unable to secure an interview with Spirit on the BS01 podcast. This is likely because he is still putting the data together and preparing it for publication. While this may be a lot to take in for most, and for many it may be too much, I encourage you to put aside your emotions for the cold-hearted and sometimes arrogant ice hero and accept the fact that this has all been a facade. Elvis knew that darkness was rising and that the only way he could fight the Makuta and prevent his reign of terror was to fake his own death and take on the role as a toa of ice. Instead of being angry with him, you should respect him for giving up his life as a hero of the people to become a hero for the people. Below are the undeniably conclusive images that show proof that Kopaka and Elvis are in fact the same person. Pay close attention to the similar color schemes and mannerisms between the photos. You'll notice that regardless of what form Kopaka is in, he still struggles to hide his taste in style. http://imgur.com/gallery/Vm8ya

  17. A Defender and Arbiter that may have origins from the time of the Mask Makers, this ARCH 7078-28 descends from the skies with a grace rarely exhibited by a machine. Equipped with a Repeating Launcher, High-Precision Rifle, Long-Range Boosters and Proto-Alloy Talons that have been known to rend Steel-Bark Trees, the ancient construction executes its tasks surely and swiftly. This creation may be built solely from the parts contained in 70788 Kopaka and 70782 Protector of Ice. Apologies for only coming up with this a full year past their release - I only obtained these sets a short while ago. Hey, my 2001-3 combiners were more than 10 years late, so that's progress. Though its status as a robot might make it a bit harder to integrate into the Okoto wildlife than a Rahi, I guess it could fulfill a role not unlike the rogue Exo-Toa from Gen 1? More images, including exploded views that may be easily replicated, can be found on my Flickr here. Any criticism is greatly appreciated! My Paint.net competence is pretty abysmal, so any pointers in that department are welcome as well.
  18. I'M BAAAACK It's been a while since I last wrote in this forum... well, here we are again! I just wanted to show you some of my latest Bonkle art I did in this period, from oldest to newest: Bionicle: Journey to One poster Third place in the Journey to Netflix contest! (oh, and the animations of that one seem promising enough) Another prototype Bionicle: Reborn logo Quick doodle Pohatu, matoran (basic) form, without his armor/kanohi Hmm.....I think it's the edgiest thing I've ever made. Not too friendly in this timeline, indeed..... Toa Kalikiki (matoran + Power-up), giftart for KaibaGal Sudden gift I made her, in my own style Powered-up Narmoto His combat form. Took inspiration from both samurais and spartan warriors Powered-up Kulta, Skull Gr1nder (pencil sketch) Kulta turns into a giant, massive skull robot All six heroes + Power-up forms in Bionicle: Reborn Six heroes, one destiny Toa Luhan, Powered-up, giftart for ToaLuhan First painting without lineart I recently made And now for the newest piece I just finished: Kopaka, Uniter form My own, brutal take on 2016 Kopaka. Just wanted to give him some sort of "Yoshimitsu" vibe Well, hope you enjOI my gallery! :3 Oh, and my Journey to Netflix third prize finally arrived last month! It's amazing! Thanks a lot for the support <3
  19. Have any of you guys ever bought more than one of specific set(s)? Which ones did you get, and why? I just bought 3 of 70787 Gali Master of Water because of her nice array of pieces and what a good set she is.

    Weird Pricing

I just checked LEGO's online shop and I have to say, I was honestly not expecting Umarak to be the same price as Onua and (presumably) Tahu at £14.99 considering he has 172 pieces. Kopaka and Melum, on the other hand, are £19.99 and have 171 pieces. It's clear who has the better price/part ratio here. Onua has 143 pieces at £14.99. The other sets aren't on the UK LEGO Shop at the moment, but it seems weird the sets have more pieces and yet remained the same price. I might as well post my general 2016 set thoughts now that we've got solid looks at them: Let's start with the 'iconic' character, Tahu. Tahu, I like him better than Kopaka. He looks decent, all right alone, and amazing with Ikir. However, alone there's something a bit off about him that I can't quite put my finger on. Though he does have one of the better creature combinations of the Toa, if not the best. Onua, probably my favourite of the larger Toa. The transparent purple, gold, and black combo works so well. He really stands out amongst Kopaka and Tahu IMO. Kopaka is the weakest of the larger Toa, and Melum is the weakest of the creatures. He's got a bit of random dark blue and what looks to be awkward upper arms, plus his leg armour should be silver instead of gold or his silver parts should be gold instead of silver. Lewa's probably up with Onua as one of the more solid Toa. The green and silver go together well and the arms, despite being a bit different, aren't really awkward like Kopaka's. Plus, Lewa's mask is a solid improvement over what we got last year. Gali, not sure how I feel about Gali. I feel like Gali's the plainest Toa this wave, the one that took the least risks (other than the orange parts). Don't really have a strong opinion on Gali. Pohatu, I like. Some may not like the multiple colours but I like how it resembles rock layering, sort of, and I like what they did with the upper arms. Umarak looks good, especially for £14.99 instead of £20.00. I'm skipping the creatures because I like most of them with the exception of Melum. They all seem to do their job well. (Small set design has been amazing the past few years). Ikir and Uxar are pretty good, Terak and Akida are good, Ketar seems a bit meh and Melum is Terak, Uninteresting Edition. Tahu and Lewa have the best creature combinations, followed by Gali, followed by Onua and Kopaka, followed by Pohatu.
  21. "I have slept for so long. My dreams have been dark ones. But now I am awakened. Now the scattered elements of my being are rejoined. Now I am whole. And the darkness cannot stand before me." Thanks to the hard work of Xiron, Garry's Mod and Source Film Maker finally have a ton of LEGO models to play around with, without having to resort to work-arounds such as my earlier Toa of Light. I'm hoping to make some big pictures with these new assets in the future, but for now, I wanted to celebrate the birth of this new GMod era with a homage to another era's birth. This is a recreation of the full-page splash panel of Kopaka from the very first BIONICLE comic drawn by Carlos D'Anda, using models from BIONICLE: The Game, Half-Life 2, and the "Legend of the Toa" Skyrim mod on the GM_BigIsland map. Of course, the BIONICLE: The Game model for Kopaka doesn't hold a candle to the sheer legendary awe invoked by D'Anda's work, but unless/until custom Toa models come out, this is the best that we can use. Also, even though I'm aware that a much higher-poly version of the Kanohi Akaku was released for GMod (modeled, if I'm not mistaken, by the same person who modeled the "Legend of the Toa" weapons), I stuck with the BIONICLE: The Game Akaku because it better fit the artstyle of the rest of the model. Again, if a whole high-poly Toa Mata was released, then I'd change my mind, but until such a day... Still, despite the graphical limitations of the model, I tried to spruce it up a bit with some dynamic lighting and glow effects to better recreate the original image. Everything you see here was done directly in GMod, since I don't have access to Photoshop on this computer. If my computer didn't vehemently despise Source Engine water effects with a passion and crash GMod every few minutes on this map, I'm sure I could have done even more. Nonetheless, I'm very satisfied with the end result. Once again, big thanks to Xiron for making this possible. I hope you enjoyed this journey back in time to the beginning of BIONICLE. Comments and constructive criticism are appreciated.
  22. Combiner models need more love and the transparent blue elements from Kopaka and Gali plus Kopaka's ice sword elements cried out for an ice dragon rahi. I also experimented with the new gearbox and leftover parts and ended up with a golden ice scarab with nice gear-powered movement. What do you think? More photos here, including gif and video of the scarab's motion.
  23. I converted the original Lego flash trailer of Kopaka into a stop-motion animation trailer! Feel free to check it out!
