  1. Out of the blue, I started thinking about the now defunct LEGO MMO LEGO Universe. And the more I think about, the more disappointing it seems that it got closed and that it was a MMO. I think that game could have worked, with a longer life, if it were not a MMO but rather a 4-player Co-op somewhat open-world LEGO game, with or without online capabilities. That is pretty much the maximum amount of people you could go into the minigames/psuedobossfights with. Also: no subscription fee - because it would no longer be an MMO. I think that was one of the things that killed the game before it started. Instead, a one-time purchase. Maybe some things would have to be reworked, but the game didn't really seem to ever need more than 4 players doing something at once. There are a few things about LEGO Universe that weren't fixed that really should've, IMO. If any of you played it in the latter half of its life after launch, you'll know that the game's balance went completely out of the window. The game had four factions with three 'sub-classes' (initially two) and in at the start of this second half, the first eight sub-classes got these things called 'valiant weapons'. For the most part, they were decent and balanced well enough. And then there's the Chainsaw Gun thing one of them had that was pretty much infinite and did far more rapid damage than anything else in the game. It took this 'resource' called imagination to use (one of your three stats along with life and armour) but literally everything dropped more than one sphere of imagination, so it was effectively infinite. I think the subclass it also applied to may have been able to regain life or armour via smashing enemies, can't remember rightly if that was it or if it was a different subclass. Actually, while we're at it, let's go over the factions the game had. There was Sentinel, which I believe was one of the two more popular factions in the game and probably had the most well-balanced subclasses in the game. (when you joined a faction you could be any subclass as long as you had the gear for it) These subclasses were the Knight, Samurai, and Space Ranger. Mostly, they were the ones that filled the role of tank. The Knight was the most tanky, the Samurai I believe had a slight bit more damage for a slight bit less tankiness, and the Space Ranger had a bit less tankiness for a bit more crowd control. There was Assembly, the other of the two more popular factions. I think. The Engineer, Summoner, and Inventor. These guys mostly served as the support via extra stuff like turrets and creatures, I think? They weren't really made for the game's combat as their weapons had two-hit combos instead of the usual three. I think they were mostly well-balanced but the Inventor subclass was apparently quite overpowered. There was Venture, not as popular as the other two factions but still reasonably common. These guys were mostly the crowd control. Again, three subclasses, this time the Daredevil, Buccaneer, and Adventurer. The Buccaneer used to have an awesome coat in the beta but they changed it to a much less cool bandolier. Never understood why. The first two subclasses had a unique thing to them until the last four subclasses were added to the game, which was that their weapons were 'two-handed' instead of one separate piece and had four-hit combos of 2-2-3-4 instead of the usual three. Daredevil was one of the more popular subclasses in the game - when I played, I was one. In fact, the Knight, Engineer, and Daredevil were the most popular subclasses in the game, I think? The Adventurer subclass was perhaps the weakest in the game, too. Finally, there was Paradox, the least popular faction. But also undisputedly the most powerful, and that's all thanks to one of its subclasses. Its three subclasses were the Space Marauder, the Sorcerer, and the Shinobi. It was the damage-dealing faction of the game. The Space Marauder was tanky with splash damage, the Sorcerer was high area damage with not much armour, and the Shinobi, well, the Shinobi was also apparently a slight bit overpowered. Then the valiant weapons came and the Space Marauder became a tank that also did very high damage very quickly. Balance kind of went out of the window after that. Those valiant weapons, all of the first eight subclasses got one. The last four - the Space Ranger; Inventor; Adventurer; Shinobi; they never got theirs, really. The valiant weapons pretty much increased the damage of every subclass over that subclass's normal weapons. I can't really remember most of them, but IIRC the Knight and Samurai got spears, the Daredevil got the front half a motorcycle, and the Space Marauder got the chainsaw gun thing I already talked about. Honestly, while I talk about things being a slight bit overpowered, the moto-ripper (the morocycle) was definitely up there as one of the more overpowered weapons as well. An ability it had had the potential to do 35 damage over 5 hits (each hit being 7 damage eat) to a single target, which was huge in LEGO Universe because most weapons only did at a max a combo of 4-4-4 damage, and the only things that beat that were the valiant weapons that did 3-3-3-4/3-3-4-4 damage. Still pretty high. If the game was balanced a bit better, and was tweaked so it was a 4-player co-op experience instead of a MMO, I think it could actually work. The only thing that could have more than 4 players was the racing, which could have up to six, but... it's not really much of a loss. LEGO Universe had about 7 or so major worlds, two of them being hubs, and about an equal amount of smaller worlds, I believe? Avant Gardens Nimbus Station, Gnarled Forest, Forbidden Valley, Nexus Tower, Crux Prime, and the Ninjago World being the big ones, with the Venture Explorer (return included), LEGO Club, the four 'fan' made' worlds, and Pet Cove being the smaller ones. There's also the 'property' worlds. Not much for a MMO considering how small the earlier maps were, but maybe big enough for a co-op four player game? I could see it working. The minigames the game had work well with four players - the survival minigames, the racing, the battle for nimbus station... maybe not the shooting gallery. Maybe that'd have to be redone a bit. The 'psuedo' bosses that were in their own thing would work since they also required four people (mostly enemy dragons). And considering I'm already talking about LEGO Universe, and since the game doesn't really exist, I may as talk about the alpha I played close to... six years ago now? Wow. Well, whatever NDA I had to adhere to is probably gone now. So. Right. The Alpha. It might surprise you how little some things changed and how much some other things changed. In the Alpha there were bats on the ceiling of the cave that linked the first area of Avant Gardens to the monument area - brick-built bats on brick-built rocks. They weren't there in the launch version of the game, for some reason I still don't understand. They weren't particularly high-resolution or resource draining. The first 'world', the Venture Explorer? Aside from a few small tweaks and changes, it remained mostly unchanged except for minifig appearances. I guess that would be because it was one of the first worlds. Avant Gardens, the world that also serves as an introduction, well, I think asides from the spider den, it remained mostly unchanged. The Monument area saw a few more changes, but it always had three main paths and remained the most vertically open area in the game for a good long while. But it had more time, so it was less glitchy. Gnarled Forest, the other area in Alpha... it really was quite different in Alpha, but the same. The general look of the world remained the same, but the enemies... they were changed a bit, especially the enemy gorillas, as were the stuff you could build on the ground. I don't think the racing area existed at that point, either? It might have, but it was quite barren. You could also go to the medium/large? sized property for Gnarled Forest at the end of the area, the same medium/large sized property that was never released because the game closed down. Kind of odd getting to see that, considering that the first time I saw it in Alpha was also the last time I and the others I was with at the time would ever see it. Another Gnarled Forest thing: Parrots were all the rage in Alpha. Everybody who was in the Alpha wanted one, and they dropped significantly more than they did in the beta or launch versions of the game. You could also glitch into the Gnarled Forest survival minigame that wasn't finished yet, which is what I and two others did in the last few days of the (month long) alpha. It was significantly glitchier than anything else in the game. Actually, now that I think about, did that survival ever make it into the final game? Strange if it didn't, it was in a good location from what I could tell. Might as well talk about beta as well. In beta, at first, we were limited to the first two worlds. Alpha had both them and Gnarled Forest. Wasn't until April we got Nimbus Station, which I don't think was in the Alpha until the last week... (we also glitched into joining a faction in alpha, something we weren't meant to do. We received placeholders of items that didn't exist yet, I think. Oops. Yes, we did a lot of glitching in the last few days of Alpha. A lot of it. Don't judge us - we were testers. It's what we're meant to do.) This time, in beta, the faction stuff had been made, I think? Still early, though. Should talk about Forbidden Valley, added to beta in May or late April along with a character wipe. Forbidden Valley was by far the glitchiest area in the game, even compared to the others before testing. Imagine elevators going up... through you. Or enemies that got stuck in the ground and in the walls. Or getting stuck at the bottom of a cliff because the bounce pads didn't work. Or not dying when falling because the death barrier didn't exist. That was quite an experience. Later in May, I believe there was the third character wipe and the last one - characters wouldn't be wipe until the end of the beta. The game was approaching its near-;launch state, so I believe they needed us to test the functionality of the rank 2 and 3 faction gear, something I believe that wasn't implemented before. And we did. Not much changed in this period aside from a few small bug fixes - like I said, the game was in its near-launch state. Honestly, I think the game was at its best in that state, too. I decided to test the Sentinel Knight. Let me tell you, from the late beta period to the end, that subclass didn't really change at all. Maybe the game could've worked if it wasn't a MMO. Not sure. What do you think? At least, if you also played LU at any point in its life. Can't imagine that'd be many people.
  2. Edit: The rules have been slightly revised, especially the deadline. The updated rules are now listed below. I've run contests before, but since I want to spread my outreach for this contest, I have decided to post this one here. So, without further ado, let me introduce the... This new contest is being run in conjunction with a current animation project, titled Project U! So, what is this contest, you may ask? Well, read on to find out! Official Rules 1. You will create a new and original character and cast them into one of the four Nexus Force factions: Sentinels, Assembly, Venture League, or Paradox.2. A Sentinel character doesn't have to be a knight, samurai, or space marine).3. You will submit a five-point turnaround of one and only one character (unless it is important for the character to have a maximum of one companion). In addition to this, you will also submit details that tell the character’s name, age, personality traits, and any other important information. 4. When submitting a character design, there is no restriction on the medium used. You may use actual LEGO pieces, LDraw, LEGO Digital Designer, pencil and paper, pen and ink, paint, digital paint, vector drawing, 3D Max, Autodesk Maya, etc.5. Mustache Maniacs Film Co. staff members cannot participate in this contest. 7. All entries MUST be accepted by June 30, 2014. 8. 3. Not too terribly long ago in 2011, a contest was hosted on the LEGO Universe website challenging entrants to design their own car based on the standard chassis used in the game. Being a fan of the original LEGO Racers game, I had the idea to build an adaption of Basil the Batlord's car from it to fit the LEGO Universe car chassis. The result didn't win the contest, but I had such fun building it that I resolved to build the rest of the LEGO Racers circuit leaders' cars on the Universe chassis. Some of the results turned out better than others, and when I reached the final car, Rocket Racer's, I decided that it wouldn't be viable for me to construct a reasonable facsimile of the the original with my collection. So I skipped it. Recently I decided on a whim to try anyway. The result was not nearly so terrible as I had imagined, although I still feel that the sloping portion at the front is perhaps just a little too long. More images: Another angle Front Side Back Back Angle Top The modular pieces: The chassis. I cheated a little and altered it from the standard form to make the finished design possible.

    Lego Universe

Approved by SisenIt is 2013. For years, the Nexus Force has been waging war against the chaotic forces of the Maelstrom for the fate of the entire universe. For the past two years, the Nexus Force has gone through more hardships than ever, but has started to push the Maelstrom back. However, the Darkitect, having recovered from his various losses both in the Nimbus System and abroad, has begun to strike back harder than ever. While the Nexus Force's numbers are large, they need more back-up to hold against the Maelstrom. That's where you come in. Welcome to the LEGO Universe RPG, hosted by Jacks and Brikman McStudz. RULESThese rules will make your time in the LURPG a whole lot easier.1. All BZP rules are in effect here. This means no spamming, no flaming, etc.2. Use "IC" when In Character (describing what your character is doing in-universe) and "OOC" when Out Of Character (to talk and discuss with other BZP members). This way, it is less confusing for other members to read your posts.3. Keep violent descriptions down to minimal. We are not writing a horror story.4. Do not kill other players' characters without their consent.5. If you are planning to leave this RPG, please let us know in advance so we may take your profile down from the first post. If you're only going on break, tell us so that I do not take down your profile.GUIDELINESGuidelines are like the rules. However, breaking of the guidelines only results in a warning.1. Do not kill official LEGO Characters.2. Please know that at times we can be extremely busy and may not always be able to attend this RPG. 3. If possible, make your posts medium-length. Epics are not required for each post, but posts with one or two in-character sentences don't add much to the RPG. This RPG tries to see how well you and other members can interact and take control of the story; while this can be achieved through short posts, it take far less time with medium-length posts.4. Keep interaction with other LEGO themes that have nothing to do with LEGO Universe down to minimum. Having your character once be apart of the Alpha Team or Space Police before joining the Nexus Force is fun, but bringing in a fleet of Space Police ships and so on is not encouraged.7. No godmodding. If you character takes on an army of a zillion Maelstrom Dragons led by the Darkitect himself while not getting a single scratch, that is godmodding. Don't do that. KEY LOCATIONS Crux Prime - Crux Prime is a jagged, dark world that is the most contested area between the Nexus Force and Maelstrom currently. This world once hosted the Nexus Temple and the Imagination Nexus before being destroyed by the Maelstrom's creation, making it extremely dangerous to travel there. At the edge of the world, a Maelstrom fog constantly spews powerful Stromlings to hinder the Nexus Force. In 2011 and early 2012, Crux Prime was the site of a mining operation by the Skullkin to get Maelstrom Ore to create powerful new weapons for Lord Garmadon. Since then, with Lord Garmadon efforts being solely focused on Ninjago, much of the Skullkin population has been eliminated and the Maelstrom Quarry has turned into a research area for Paradox. On this world is the Nexus Force's headquarters, the massive and grand Nexus Tower. Nexus Tower is the Nexus Force's main base of operations and hosts specialized wings for all four factions. From the Nexus Tower, one can reach Nimbus Station, Club Station Alpha, and Starbase 3001.Nimbus Station - A peaceful world that, after being cleansed of the Maelstrom, became a major foothold for the Nexus Force and hub world for the Nimbus System as a whole. Many Nexus Force members use this area as a place to relax and gather with friends, as it features a race track and concert amphitheater. There once a time machine here to travel back to the famed battle against the Maelstrom on Nimbus Station before it was heavily damaged in a Stromling attack, leaving it in an indefinite state of disrepair. Nimbus Rock and Nimbus Isle properties orbit this world.Avant Gardens - A once beautiful area area of Crux that has been turned into a massive battlefield between the Sentinels and the Maelstrom. Avant Gardens is home to massive monument dedicated to the fight against the Maelstrom and a cave infested with Dark Spiderlings and their Spider Queen. There was Paradox Research Facility here before it was destroyed during the Spider Queen's creation. Avant Gardens is orbited by Block Yard and Avant Grove properties and the Venture Explorer.Venture Explorer - A Venture League cargo ship captained by Sky Lane that was attacked and corrupted by the Maelstrom in 2010. After a brief mission in 2011 to recover important files related to the Nexus Tower, the ship has been left abandoned in the airspace above Avant Gardens.Gnarled Forest - A tropical world with a massive jungle that was heavily populated by pirates before many were corrupted by treasure chests infected with the Maelstrom. The Venture League is allied with the Pirates of the region led by Captain Jack Knife to fight against swarms of Stromling Pirates and brutish Stromling Apes. The Pirates have a camp established on a beach next to the Black Seas Barracuda, which has run aground into a tree. The Maelstrom's energies are focused in a trench filled with its destructive energies. Inbetween the fight against the Maelstrom is a growing conflict between the Pirates and their enemies the Ninja of Forbidden Valley. There is also a racetrack on this world. Gnarled Forest is orbited by Chantey Shanty properties.Forbidden Valley - A rocky, dangerous world controlled by the sacred order of the ninja. The Maelstrom has a powerful presence here, having corrupted the deceased souls of samurai swordsman, old samurai armor, and have taken over the dragon population in the area. The Paradox have a refinery in the area where they conduct research on the Maelstrom, particularly on its leader, Baron Typhonus. Pirate spies are known to be infiltrating Forbidden Valley as the conflict between Pirates and Ninja grow. There is also a racetrack on this world. This world is orbited by Raven Bluff properties.Starbase 3001 - Note: Starbasae 3001 is currently under quarantine. This location is not open for travel. A space station that links off to four small worlds, including:Portabello - A jungle area with an island mountain and a poisonous swamp. This world is inhabited by sentient, pig-like dragons and large snails that are used to pass over the poisonous lake. Portabello is currently infested with small Dark One Stromlings that are more of a minor annoyance at the moment.Moonbase - A Classic Space outpost on a moon near Crux that mines for Imaginatium crystals for Nexus Force use. The Moonbase is one of the only areas in the Nimbus System that has not been attacked by the Maelstrom. Instead, the outpost is being infested by strange, insect-like creatures called Grabbles and antagonized by a mysterious organization called Piratron.DeepFreeze - A frozen world mostly devoid of Minifig life. It is mostly inhabited by small mammals. At the moment, Maelstrom-infected beavers are the primary threat in the world.Robot City - A massive city inhabited by robot citizens. After a robot named Master NXT was infected with the Maelstrom, he spread the corruption throughout the city and infected thousands or possibly millions of citizens into Stromlings and build special robots to destroy those who had escaped Master NXT's corruption. The Nexus Force is currently working on a campaign to defeat Master NXT and his army and retake the city. OTHER LOCATIONS These locations are underneath Nexus Force control and do not branch off to contested worlds, meaning not much happens here. Regardless, they are still available to visit.Pet Cove - Once a horrible Maelstrom wasteland, Pet Cove is a peaceful wildland that acts as a home for cats, dogs, and hares. The area is maintained by Coalessa. It is currently under no threat of the Maelstrom.Club Station Alpha - A starbase in an asteroid belt where citizens of the Nimbus System go to hang out. The station is run by Max. It is currently under no threat of the Maelstrom. OFF-LIMIT WORLDS The world of Ninjago has been forbidden from normal Nexus Force travel following the destruction of the spinjitzu monastery and the increasingly dangerous situation on the planet. Special ops troops are currently looking into the situation for any relation to the Maelstrom. CHARACTERS Your primary character is your main character and can be apart of any of the four factions of the Nexus Force and be one of three Faction specialties or "classes". It is recommended you read up on the classes and factions on the LEGO Universe Wiki if your knowledge is a little rusty.ASSEMBLYThe Assembly are led by Doctor Albert Overbuild and specialize in building, creativity, and the use and study of Imagination. Their main fighting classes are listed below:Engineer: The powerful workforce of Assembly. They specialize in not only repairing fortifications and armor, building turrets to take on wave after wave of Stromlings.Inventor: The heavy hitters of Assembly. They focus heavily on offense with both an Imagination-powered handheld blaster and the power to build a small invention to fire upon Stromlings.Summoner: The wizard-class of Assembly. They use the power of Imagination to summon powerful creatures to aid you in fighting against Stromlings.VENTURE LEAGUEThe Venture League are led by Hael Storm and specialize in exploration, adventure, and puzzle solving. Their three main fighting classes are listed below:Adventurer: Brave explorers who use their speed and exploration skills to discover and fight enemies. Adventurers use a powerful crossbow and whip as weapons.Buccaneer: Treasure hunters; they have similar abilities to Daredevils, but use them for evasive tactics to confuse enemies. Buccaneers wield a pistol and cutlass against their enemies.Daredevil: Powerful warriors of the Venture League faction that, as their name implies, are eager to dive straight into the chaos and use fast speeds, powerful jumps, and dual pistols to flatten Stromling armies.SENTINELSThe Sentinels are led by Duke Exeter and is composed of soldiers and warriors who take the Maelstrom's forces head on. Their three main fighting classes are listed below:Knight: Brave and noble soldiers who are determined to defeat the Maelstrom. Their armor and shield make them difficult to knockdown and a powerful sword make them a dangerous force on the battlefield.Samurai: Powerful and honorable warriors that, when not using their martial art prowess, use a powerful katana and a bow that can shoot fiery arrows to take down their enemies.Space Ranger: Heavily armored soldiers that use their zipgun and blaster to cause massive devastation on the battlefield.PARADOXParadox are led by Vanda Darkflame and specialize in studying and researching the Maelstrom with the intent of using its dark power against itself. Their three fighting classes are listed below:Shinobi: The Shinobi are deadly assassins and the only Paradox faction that uses melee weapons. They use a fast barrage of attacks from their katanas to defeat their foes.Sorcerer: Powerful magicians that use the dark power of the Maelstrom as their source of magic, channeled through their wand and orb.Space Marauder: The hard-hitting soldiers of Paradox. They use their Maelstrom-fueled rocket launcher, blaster, and grenades to repel waves of Stromlings. TIERS & VEHICLES All players begin at Standard tier. After a player has spent a goodly amount of time participating in the RPG, showing dedication, creativity, and/or contributing to the game overall, he/she may be promoted to Veteran tier.As seen in the MMO, Standard-ranking players may use cars or other similarly-sized land vehicles for easy travel within worlds, and rockets for travel between worlds.Players who have been promoted to Veteran may use any sort of vehicle at all: flying saucers, zeppelins, insect-legged submarines...your Imagination is the only significant limit. Please provide a drawing, MOC, or -- at the very least -- a detailed description of your vehicle so that we can imagine it as well. (And keep it reasonable; no invincible motherships or planet-crushing dreadnoughts, please, for that would be god-modding. Of course, if we've seen fit to make you Veteran, you're probably not the type to engage in god-modding anyway, so this may be moot.) NPCs You have one primary character and you can have as many non-primary characters, or NPCs, as you want. These characters are not limited to the main classes of the Nexus Force or even the Nexus Force as a whole. An NPC can be a Nexus scientist or grunt of any faction. They could be a pirate or ninja who inhabits the worlds under the threat of the Maelstrom. Heck, you can even create cunning Stromling NPCs so you wish. They do not require a sign-up sheet. SIGN UP To join the RPG, fill out and post this form for your primary character. Feel free to start posting as soon as you can. Get out there and save imagination!

  6. Okay, since Lego Universe first came out, and especially after it closed, I've been really wanting to make some Lego Universe armor minifigures. I was just wondering (since I temporarily have the power!) how much the rest of you were interested. Minifigs should looks something like this: Yes, I am currently working on a Stromling with transpurple parts. A group shot. So, would anyone else like this idea?
  7. Okay, I've been looking over the Lego Universe armors, and I have to wonder: Has anyone ever made custom pieces/stickers to make the LU minifigures? Has anyone ever seen one? I have seen some where someone has tried to make them using existing pieces, but I want to know if someone actually made the minifig accurate to the game.

  9. I made this a few months ago. You know, back when LEGO Universe was still around. Anyway, I tried my hardest to make sure this was accurate to the crashed ship on Crux Prime, which was difficult since the original was... Well, wrecked. The pictures are rather large, so here's the gallery:http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=496580
