  1. Class Is Out A (long overdue) Farewell To Corpus Rahkshi Welcome to the review topic for Class Is Out. For those just discovering this unique take on the Bionicle story for the first time, I hope you enjoy your stay in the weird, wacky world of sentient Rahkshi. Though there may be some inside jokes and references, these stories will largely be independent and self-contained, so prior knowledge of the game isn't required reading. For any old Corpus Rahkshi players who are seeing this and would like to contribute something, please feel free to reach out by comment, PM, or Discord message. Whether you want to write a full short story, or just contribute a few lines about where your character ended up, I’m open to any and all contributions. Just note that the Epics forum rules don’t allow for multiple authors to post in the same topic, so please coordinate with me rather than just posting something in the story topic without warning. I do have a clear end point already written for this project, but that will likely be at least a few months away, depending on how many additional contributors express interest. With all of that out of the way, settle in and enjoy this collection of tales from the surviving students of Corpus Rahkshi. Chapters: Part 1 - The Chronicler - in which our humble narrator is introduced. Part 2 - Sins Of The Father - a deformed daughter of Icarax faces her maker. Part 3 - The Illusion Of Control - Artakha falls to the armies of Teridax. Part 4 - Patience And Progress - the children of Chirox meet their maker's rival. Part 5 - Memoirs Of A Turahk - a letter from an old friend crosses our Chronicler's desk. Part 6 - A Caged Bird - there is no sweeter song than hope. Part 7 - Warrior, King, God - delusions and grandeur. Part 8 - Of Flesh And Faith - a family face their fate during the siege of Xia. Part 9 - Life And Death - two Rahkshi find their destinies during the fall of Destral. Part 10 - Sword And Shield - a family reunion takes an unexpected turn. Part 11 - Blizzard's Chapter - the past continues to influence the present. Part 12 - Letting Go - as one chapter ends, another begins.
  2. Class Is Out A (long overdue) Farewell To Corpus Rahkshi For those unaware, Corpus Rahkshi was a text-based RPG that ran on this site from November 2014 to December 2019, racking up nearly 28,000 replies before eventually petering out after its GM disappeared, despite the best efforts of a small, dedicated group of players to keep it going. The game played out in an alternate version of Bionicle canon where, for reasons unknown, some Rahkshi had begun to develop individual personalities and free will. In an effort to better understand and control this “new breed”, the Brotherhood Of Makuta sent these unruly new children to a school run off the coast of Nynrah, under the watch of headmaster Tridax (later replaced by Icarax). Set around 10 years after the events of the novel Time Trap, the game took place in a time period largely unexplored by canon, a time where Makuta schemed and squabbled amongst themselves and would-be conquerors consolidated their power in the wake of the Great Cataclysm, while the rest of universe waited with bated breath for the next disaster. Even before the game ended, I’d had plans to create some kind of epilogue post telling the tale of where some of my characters ended up after their time at the school, but between events in my personal life and -gestures vaguely at all of 2020- I never really found the time or motivation to get it done. Now, three years later, I’ve finally been struck by the right mix of nostalgia and inspiration to motivate myself to finish it off, and I reached out to some of the past players for their input in completing the tales of their own characters, to create one final, heartfelt farewell to Corpus Rahkshi. New entries will be added to this archive on a weekly basis, with descriptions denoting which author/s were involved, and what character/s the story is being told from the perspective of. While there will likely be some inside jokes and references that might go over the heads of people who didn’t play the game, these stories should offer plenty of excitement and emotion to appeal to any reader. Also, if any other former Corpus Rahkshi players happen across this and want to contribute, there’s still time to get something together. Leave a comment in the review topic, shoot me a PM, or message me on Discord if you’re interested in taking part in some way. Whether you want to write a full short story or just contribute a few lines about where your character ended up, I'm happy to include whatever you come up with. I do have a clear end point planned for this project, but that will likely be at least a few months away, depending on how many additional contributors express interest. With all of that out of the way, settle in and enjoy this collection of tales from the surviving students of Corpus Rahkshi.
  3. I have created 10 Rahkshi parts that are 3d printable. These models are of a higher quality then what can be found on Thingiverse and in Studio. The hands and shoulder armor are new parts of my own design.
  4. I built this blend of the movie-style Rahkshi design and the funky deviant creatures from the recent Eternals film for an article on New Elementary delving into the satin blade piece found in the sets it got.
  5. So I got laid off because of the coronavirus, and I have a cold. I hope it’s a cold. It’s not my best week, and a lot of folks have it worse. So as a distraction, I wrote a new Kanohi story. This is actually a sequel to my last short story, The Company of Cowards, which takes place in a universe inspired by the vision Karzahni showed Jaller in Dark Destiny. Both stories are also sequels to my original Kanohi Short Story; Of Villagers, Outcasts, and Heroes, though that one can fit into a couple universes like the Kingdom and the Core Reality. Point is, here is a new story about a grappling vigilante Fe-Matoran, with him back in the lead role. Please enjoy, at the least it’s a bit of a distraction. A Village Against the Rahkshi … Kanohi wiped the large wooden mask, a powerless mask carved in the shape of a noble Ruru. He hooked it atop his head, covering him a strange tribal appearance. He breathed steady, hands shaking. He … he had put on a brave face for the other Matoran, but here, the fear came out. He was not a Po-Matoran. He was a Fe-Matoran. And Vakama would have known that. His visions of an underground world under attack by monstrous spiders and Rahkshi, those were real, but Vakama had lied and said those visions were not so literal. There was so much Vakama had never told him. So much he still would not know if not for Axonn. So much of what he knew over the past millennia was just … lies. He understood the need for secrecy, he might have left Mata-Nui to help the underground Matoran, many would have. And despite Vakama’s mentoring, Kanohi was an outcast, a vigilante who did not belong to any one Koro but helped all Matoran. If people far away had needed him more, he would have left Mata-Nui with regret but resolve. But even though he understood by the Turaga had lied, it stung like a hundred Nui-Kopen. And it still wasn’t right. Necessary maybe, but not right. Kanohi held out his orange and black arms. Like the rest of his body they were plated with wooden masks, but sticking out of his firearms right before his wrists were small launchers. Between the technology of Voya-Nui weaponry, and the inventiveness of Nuparu, the Fe-Matoran had been able to get upgraded again. He how had two Volo Lutu Launchers; one built into each arm, to let him grapple across the jungle with ease. Even the strange jungle of Voya-Nui. Satisfied at his arms, he pulled out his lighter, gazing into the flame. As the fire danced he could see image dance in the embers. That was one honest thing Vakama had told him at least, how to focus his strange ability to prophesies with fire. Within the flickering flames he could see three of the new Toa; Macku, Kapura, and Hafu, all sailing with Hewkii and Axon. They were traveling back towards the island of Mata-Nui through the gloom of night, only the Red Star breaking the endless void of blackness. Axonn rowed and Macku pushed the ship with her elemental power, waves splashing from each push. As water foamed in their wake, the white bubbles broke apart like clumps of wet sand, before crumbling into an avalanche. Kanohi tried to grapple away, but it soon was upon, smothering him in darkness. He shivered in the gloom, before red rusted eyes consumed his sight, and a terrible voice shouted, “where is the Mask of Time!” “Kanohi, sir?” The autistic vigilante spun around, his hands shaking, his heartlight pounding beneath his wooden masks. Piruk flinched at his outburst, and Kanohi tried to settle his breathing. “Yes, brother?” “I … I was surveying the northern coast with Dalu, she enhanced my sense and … there are strange reptilian creatures flying this way. Six of them, all yellow, holding staffs.” “Rahkshi of Heat Vision,” Kanohi sighed like a hovercraft’s engine dying, “the Makuta has found us. Has Garan and Dalu already rallied the Matoran?” “Um yes.” “Is Brutaka joining us?” “No he … he says six Rahkshi are not worth his time.” “I think he will change his tune if we capture some Kraata,” Kanohi stood up. That was another thing Vakama had trusted him with, even more than all Matoran. The only Matoran to ever go hunt Kraata with the Turaga were Matoro and Kanohi, though more as bait than as fighters. “What are Kraata?” “What controls a Rahkshi, the Rahkshi is just a suit of armor a Kraata controls. They are not very smart, but they are dangerous, and can corrupt masks.” Kanohi stretched, adjusting his wooden masks one more time, before saying, “Piruk, I know this is a lot to ask, but report back to Garan, he might need you to report to the other village, and he will need to know these are Rahkshi of Heat Vision.” “M-m-me?” “We all must do our part. With half of the Toa Inika heading to liberate Mata-Nui from the Makuta and his false Toa, and the other half moving to find the Mask of Life, we need all of us Matoran working together. You don’t need to fight, just transmit news between the Matoran.” “R-right, easy. Well, you know what Balta always says…” “…You don’t need to be a Toa to be a hero,” Kanohi nodded, walking out of the hut. Looking about he aimed his right arm to a tree, and a sphere of gravity blasted out of his built-in launcher. It slammed into the treetop, and then in a rush the raw gravity pulled, ripping Kanohi off the village clearing and into the air. As he hit the tree he fired from his left arm, grappling to another tree. He ricocheted from tree to tree, patrolling the village even as other Matoran ran about in preparation for the Rahkshi. … Dalu focused her Chargers as a Rahkshi flew overhead, a tight glare in her optics. With some strange power emanated from her silver blades, striking the beast. As the beast turned towards her it lurched, suddenly as heavy as a Kikanalo. The Rahkshi plummeted like a stone, smashing into the ground with a resounding thud. She ran at the beast, but as she drew close it glared it’s eyes at her, and twin beams of burning energy slammed into her. She wheezed in pain, before that wheeze ignited into anger. “I am not so easily cowed!” The Ga-Matoran snarled, balancing on one arm and her legs. With some strain she fired her Chargers again, this time at the ground beneath the Rahkshi. The earth beneath the beast began to crumble, eroding what should take centuries in a matter of seconds. The Rahkshi was buried, and she slumped over, panting. “Take … that … Rahi,” she managed to shout. Using her Chargers was a big drain, she would need to rest or risk passing out— There was a hiss as beams of red hot flame erupted from the rubble, carving a hole in the debris. She stared up as the Rahkshi dragged itself out of the earth, its armor now scratched up, its legs sparking from when it fell from the sky. The mechanical puppet stepped towards her, its movements jerky like a Rock Ussal scuttling towards its prey. Two blasts of heat vision fired at her, but before it could hit a Ta-Matoran lunged in the way. Balta crossed his Repellers in front of Dalu, the weapons absorbing the full blast of the Rahkshi’s energies. And then with a thrust of his shoulders the Repellers hurled the energy back at the Rahkshi, frying it like the best Toa of Fire. The Rahkshi nearly collapsed, sparking as it used its staff to hold itself upright. With a cock of irs head it fired more heat vision, but not at Balta. The blasts struck a nearby tree, dropping it like a stone. Balta sounds around to repeal the falling tree— Two blasts of heat vision slammed into the Ta-Matoran, sending him tumbling. The good news was that thanks to the blast, the tree had missed hitting him. But the bad news with his injuries, he wasn’t able to lift up his Repellers, too aching from the blow. Balta’s head rolled over to take in the Rahkshi, just as a blur swung through the canopy. As another blast of heat vision flew at the Ta-Matoran a hand grabbed his arm, before grappling away in an instant. The heat vision ignited the tree, but no Matoran was hurt. Kanohi and Balta landed in a roll, as the damaged Rahkshi turned back towards them. Kanohi swallowed and fired a ball of gravity at the Rahkshi, and in a rush was hurled into the beast. He slammed into the servant of the Makuta, knocking it to the ground. As the Rahkshi shakily stood up Kanohi grappled away, calling out, “i-is this the best the M-M-Makuta’s son can do? To lose to three powerless Matoran?” If the Rahkshi was smart enough to understand and insult, it was hard to tell, but it immediately began to fire heat vision after Kanohi, blasting after him like a rampage Muaka. As the forest ignited, Balta suddenly felt some of his strength returning, his injuries mending just a little. There was a thud behind him, and he turned to see Dalu collapse again. She had enhanced his ability to heal. As the Rahkshi fired at Kanohi, the vigilante heard Balta call out, “over here.” The Fe-Matoran obliged, grappling besides Balta. The Rahkshi fired another pair of beams of heat vision, only for Balta to repel them. The blast pounded into the Rahkshi, shattering it in a fiery explosion. “We … we … killed a Rahkshi,” Kanohi managed to squeak out, dropping to his knees. “It’s not over yet,” Balta struggled to stand, putting his hands on Kanohi’s shoulder. The vigilante turned to see the Kraata had burst free of the Rahkshi, and was now oozing towards them. With a nod Kanohi drew a small capsule from his pack, and grappled over to the Kraata, slamming the capsule on top of it. The slug hissed and squirmed as he slid the lid underneath, sealing it away. “Try to rest,” Kanohi urged Balta, “watch over Dalu until she has recovered. I need to hurry back to the village, the bulk of the Rahkshi are headed there.” “Understood, Kanohi.” Balta lay down besides his fellow Matoran, as theFe-Matoran turned, hooked a tree and grappled away, launching his way through the jungle of Voya-Nui. … “Come on, Velika,” urged Kazi, uncharacteristically aggravative, “that Rahkshi is attacking the village, we need to form a Kaita.” “No,” Velika said blunt like a hammer. It was in fact unusually bluntly for Velika, no annoying sing-songs riddles of poems, just a blunt answer. Normally this would strike Kazi as odd. But since there was currently three large reptilian beasts the size of a Toa igniting the hunts and frying the Matoran, Kazi was not in the mood to ponder this. In fact all he could manage to say was simply “Why the Karzahni not?” “We don’t have time for this,” said Garan as he fired a blast from his Pulse Bolt Generators, the pulse flying through the air, growing larger and larger as it flew before pounding the Rahkshi with explosive force, “Piruk, Kazi, we will form the Kaita.” “M-me?” “Yes,” nodded Garan, “just concentrate on our unity, it should be much less of a strain than forming a Matoran Nui.” “I … I will try.” The three Matoran drew close to one another, holding hands as the village burned. Then in a flood of light they merged together, their green, brown, and black bodies fusing into one large Matoran. “Incredible, and I thought the strength we got from Nuparu’s upgrades was intense,” the fusion declared, eyeing his arms and his new two-pronged blades, “but this is on a whole mother level.” The fusion turned towards the rampaging Rahkshi and slammed his blades together, unleashing a powerful burst of sound that only grew sharper and louder as it flew. It slammed into a Rahkshi, sending sparks raining from it like an afternoon rain. The other Rahkshi turned, just as the fusion charged the first Rahkshi, slicing its staff in two. “That, is the power of our unity,” the fusion declared, before slicing and hacking his blades at the Rahkshi. The other two charged at the fusion, and the fusion only laughed boisterously, before lunged at them with clean sweeps of his blades. … “A Matoran Kaita,” Kanohi shook his head in amazement. It was … awe-inspiring to see this penultimate act of the Virtue of Unity, to see Matoran become one in drive and purpose. The giant was a little taller than a Toa, and was a flurry of sound and slashing. It was… Suddenly Kanohi spied a flash of red, and grappled to the side, avoiding a blast of heat vision. He did not have time to witness the unity of the Matoran, there were lives to save first. The vigilante grappled around, his wooden masks thumping and flanging as it went. The sensation the sound gave was oddly comforting to the autistic Matoran, grounding. It kept him calm, as calm as he could be in this moment of raw chaos. Plumes of smoke erupted from huts, ash plummeted to earth as if Mount Valami was erupting, buildings collapsed in explosion of splinters and Matoran collapsed, their metal flesh smoldering from being hit with heat vision. It was … it was just like when Mata-Nui fell. His hands trembled at the memory of Ta-Koro burning in the lava, the smell of roasting Matoran, the crushed remains of Onu-Koro, the sheer destruction caused by the first six Rahkshi, the Matoran of those villages sent as refugees to Po-Koro, to serve the will of the Makuta, then the arrival of those false Toa Piraka— And then he heard the jingling of his armor, and Kanohi let out a breath. They … they had defeated one Rahkshi, that was more than the Turaga ever had. The Matoran of Voya-Nui were strong, they … they could handle six Rahkshi. And since these were all the same type of Rahkshi, they couldn’t physically form a Kaita, same as how three Matoran of Fire couldn’t combine together. And that gave the Matoran a bit of an advantage. Kanohi swooped down towards a burning hut, scooping up a Ko-Matoran. His pistons and servos strained against the weight, but he was a Fe-Matoran, he naturally had better endurance than the average Matoran, and that was before he had been rebuilt to be stronger. Why didn’t you tell me that, Vakama? Just tell me the reason I was such a poor Po-Matoran was because I was not a Matoran of Stone at all, but a Matoran of Iron. The vigilante launched away from the fire, the Ko-Matoran in hand. Finally they tumbled to the ground, now away from the blaze. The vigilante stood up as the Ko-Matoran bolted, signing as the Matoran ran. It … his memories bubbled up inside him, the Toa Nuva could not stand against the Rahkshi, how could a village of Matoran? But he did not have the luxury to be lost in fear. Matoran were in trouble, he could not let Voya-Nui fall too. And he … he was a vigilante hero, he had protected the Matoran for centuries before the Toa arrived, protecting them from wild beasts, capturing Kraata, he was a hero. Not a Toa, but still a hero none the less. Kanohi swallowed, and then grappled back into the fray. … Nuparu slashed with his new electro-blade, frying a Rahkshi’s ankles. He was no great warrior, not the kind to become a Toa, but he had already fled the Rahkshi once, he would not do it again. As the Onu-Matoran lunged out of the way of the Rahkshi’s stomping foot, the fusion charged forward, skewering the Rahkshi’s central compartment. Ooze drooled out from the wound, and the foul smelling fluid pooled into the village center. The Rahkshi swayed, before collapsing down at Nuparu— Only for Kanohi to grapple past and carry the inventor to safety. The vigilante rolled on the landing before grappling away, streaking past the Kaita. “Please try not to kill the Kraata. I have had a vision about the Kraata, we need them to get Brutaka on our side.” “Why?” The fusion startled, “how would that convince him?” “I think he can eat them.” “Eat, like those Piraka you talked about?” The fusion stared after the vigilante, his mouth agape under his mask. Then a blast of heat vision hit him in the back, sending him tumbling. Kanohi swerved in midair and grappled back towards the fusion, as a Rahkshi focused his heat vision at the Kaita. The fusion shuddered, as two more Rahkshi flew into view. The three remaining ones were converging here now. Suddenly one of the Rahkshi became a blur, blasting forward at an inhuman speed. It slammed into a tree, shattering the wood with explosive force. As it stood there dazed Dalu stumbled out, stabbing it with her Chargers. She forced the Kraata’s compartment open, exposing the puppeteer. The slug hissing before lunging at her mask, only to be flung back by Balta’s Repellers. The Kraata smacked to the ground, right as Velika ran up to seal the stunned slug away. And then there was a boom. With explosive force the fusion separated, broken up by the barrage of heat vision. Piruk, Garan and Kazi were flung apart and landed with a resounding thud, too exhausted to function. Kanohi turned to the three other Matoran and said, “can you form a Kaita?” “No, not compatible,” answered Velika quickly. Balta and Dalu gave him a look, and he added, “if the Muaka falls, the Kane-Ra will not do better.” “…Okay. Then I’m try to distract them while you get these three to safety.” “I am not just running from these brutes,” Dalu all but snarled, and Kanohi let out a grin. It was good to see a Matoran who still had that much fire. “Fair enough, then we’ll fight them while Nuparu and you two take the fallen to safety.” “Right—” Heat vision swept at the ground, but Kanohi grappled a nearby tree, hooking Dalu and dragging her out of the way. He swung her as he flew past a Rahkshi, and she lunged at the beast, stabbing it in the eyes. The beast staggered about, and she slashed her Chargers against its thighs. Her friends’ fusion had really done a number on these Rahkshi already, now was just clean up. And as the beast crumbled, she stabbed it through the head, letting a noxious ooze drip out. Kanohi meanwhile was darting around the last Rahkshi, grappling back and forth. It’s heat vision pursued him, try to catch up. And then suddenly it pivoted around, aiming for Piruk. Immediately Kanohi broke left and grappled the Rahkshi, slamming into it. The beast stumbled, heat vision going wild, even as Dalu stabbed it in the head. There was a hiss as the slug dissolved, leaving a black stain on the ground below. And then the Rahkshi collapsed with a thud. Kanohi fell to his knees too, panting, while Dalu kicked the beast and shouted, “yeah, that’s how we do things in Voya-Nui!” … “Incredible,” Brutaka laughed like an avalanche, “I feel … incredible.” The titan slammed his fist against the mountain, shattering a crater in its side. He smirked beneath his strange mask, before punching the mountain again, and again, laughing to himself. As boulders fell Kanohi hooked a tree behind Garan and grappled, catching the Onu-Matoran’s wrist and dragging him to safety. The two Matoran tumbled into a heap, as Brutaka laughed. “And you little creatures killed these Rahkshi on your own?” He shook his head as he smashed open another capsule and slurped out the slug like a Rahi lapping water. He began to glow with more energy, the air rippling around him like the tip of Mount Valami. “Pity you only recovered three of these Kraata,” he scowled. “There are many more on Mata-Nui. And it’s said they are created from the essence of the Makuta himself. So the Turaga say.” Though they will lie if they wish. “Oh I know a lot about the Brotherhood of Makuta,” Brutaka laughed, standing up on his long gold and blue legs, “I’ve fought Rahkshi before too. But to eat one? I never even dreamed…” Under his mask Brutaka sneered, “I think I will visit this island of yours after all,” Brutaka decided, and his mask began to glow. Before the two Matoran’s eyes space rippled and ruptured, until a tear in reality formed. And within the rift, Kanohi could see a very familiar beach. “You could teleport that far?” Garan declared, “then why make your brother Axonn sail to Mata-Nui? Why not help evacuate my people’s northern brothers and sisters?” “I didn’t see the point,” Brutaka answered, before stepping through the portal. And behind him the gateway sealed shut, as if it had never been. “Do you really think we can trust him?” Garan glanced at Kanohi, “No,” answered Kanohi with a sigh, “but he will distract the Makuta, and the Toa Inika there will need all the help they can get.” “The Makuta is truly that strong?” “Yes,” Kanohi shivered, and then forced a smile, “still, I thought the Rahkshi were untouchable, and today we destroyed six of them. Nuparu and Velika are already busy salvaging their remains for more tools and weapons, even as your village is mended.” “You know, when the Makuta is defeated, and Mata-Nui is saved, our islands could learn a lot from each other. Trading goods, stories, knowledge, we are running low on food and resources, your richer island could save us. We already defeated monsters that could defeat your Toa Nuva. Imagine what we could do in a few years.” Kanohi’s face relaxed into a faint smile, before saying, “I better return to your village, we need everyone we can to fix the damage it suffered.” “Then hurry,” Garan laughed, “before my people defeat the Makuta without you.” Kanohi nodded, before grappling away through the jungle of Voya-Nui. The vigilante smile faded as he grappled, despite their words it wasn’t that simple of course. Not only was the Makuta a danger, but the false Toa themselves were powerful, though only ‘Toa’ Thok, ‘Toa’ Vezok, and ‘Toa’ Hakann seemed to be able to use their elements. But all of them had strange and incredible powers, allegedly because of the masks the ‘noble’ Makuta gave them when he appointed them the ‘protectors’ of the Matoran. Lies, all lies. The fights the Toa Inika would face in the coming days would not be easy. But the least he could do while the new Toa saved the Matoran and Mata-Nui was to protect the Matoran on Voya-Nui, both refugees and natives alike. He had a duty to all Matoran, he became a vigilante to protect them on an island with no Toa, to give them hope, and well, here he was again. And despite all his fears, his knowledge, there was another truth. Today was a victory. And that would keep him going. So Kanohi continued to grapple from tree to tree, hurtling between branches as he headed back to this island village, in a forest so alike but unalike his home. And this was the way, of the Bionicle.
  6. So it’s been a while since I have frequented BZPower, but I am getting back into the role playing and had an idea for a ”superhero” Matoran. Well I liked the idea so much I decided to write a little fanfic of this “Kanohi.” (Hey for a superhero, there are worse names than “mask”) It’s just a self contained story taking place after the sinking of Ta-Koro, while Takua and Jaller are searching for the seventh Toa. It was originally going to take place during the Bohrok-Kal saga, but I had already made a sprite of Kanohi with the 2003 Matoran design, and I had misremembered the order of when the Rebuilding took place, so that rewrote the plot. Regardless, enjoy. Of Villagers, Outcasts, and Heroes Word Count: 3090 … In the forests of Le-Wahi, a Matoran sat at the base of a great tree. His metal body was black and orange, a Great Mask of Night Vision was fitted atop his face, and a Volo Lutu Launcher lay hooked to his flank. He was covered in wooden masks, each carved to resemble a Noble Ruru. This wooden armor covered his body almost entirely, and to Rahi with poor vision he nearly blended in with the tree trunks. He was staring at his hand, where he clutched a lit lighter. As the flame burned he stared deeply into the flickering light, searching, probing. And then suddenly he lurched back and forth as images plowed into his face. First he saw Tahu Nuva in the ruins of Ta-Koro, the mighty Toa being poisoned by a strange green reptilian creature and it’s pronged staff, then he was ripped of that sight to a Gukko collapsing in the ice with two Ta-Matoran falling off, like a plow to the gut he could see a trio of Ta-Matoran being chased by a Muaka through a burnt patch of forest. Then everything melted away as the very island seemed to crumble like a dry clump of sand in a Matoran’s fingers. The autistic Matoran gasped out, struggling to steady himself. Then shakily he stood up, balancing himself against the tree. “Okay, okay,” he muttered as he fluttered his wrists, buffering. Even after a thousand years, he did not fully understand the prophetic visions he experienced. But he knew that those images were real, and whether or not they were Mata-Nui’s dreams, he knew they would come to pass, if they had not already. His visions always happened, even if he understood them too late. This was Kanohi. He was said to be a Po-Matoran, but he lacked their raw physical strength, he only had more endurance than the average Matoran, along with his visions. He was an outsider among all of the Koro of the island, a freak like Midak and Takua. But despite being a freak Kanohi was a hero to the Matoran. In the centuries before the Toa arrived, he had gotten to work protecting the Matoran from the Rahi of the island. A vigilante hero of sorts, he traveled across the south of the island only by Volo Lutu Launcher, grappling from tree to tree. His fingers drummed the air. Burnt trees and Ta-Matoran, then that vision might have taken place by the border of Ta-Wahi and Le-Wahi, maybe close to Ta-Koro. And that detail linked it to the vision of Tahu being poisoned. Kanohi didn’t know when any of the visions took place, but Vakama would know more, and he too lived in Ta-Koro. The old Turaga was the only other person Kanohi knew who could see visions, and thus Vakama had been a mentor to him. And if at Ta-Koro was going to be destroyed, the village elder had to know. That was, if the destruction of Ta-Koro wasn’t happening already. And if the village was currently being destroyed, then Kanohi had a duty to hurry there as soon as possible. The Ta-Koro Guard were great warriors, but if Tahu was struggling against … whatever that reptilian beast was, then they needed all the help they could get. Kanohi shook himself off, slipping his lighter into his back. Then the mask-covered Matoran unholstered his Volo Lutu Launcher, and aimed for a nearby treetop. A sphere blasted out of the weapon, affixing itself to the tree. There was a delay, before Kanohi hurtled into the air, his launcher drawn to the sphere like Sol Magnus’s gravity. He landed on the tree with a stumble, almost tackling the branches to hold himself steady. He swayed on the tree’s branch for a time, before shakily aiming his launcher at another tree. He lacked the arboreal reflexes of a Le-Matoran, though he managed. He fired the Volo Lutu Launcher again, ensnaring another branch. He was flung towards it, though this time he missed and sailed past the tree’s limb. Quickly he fired the launcher again, hooking another tree and swinging him upward before he could smack into the rough ground below, Soon enough Kanohi was grappling through the Le-Wahi canopy, making his way towards the border of the two regions of Fire and Air. He whipped through the jungle, speeding through the branches as leaves and twigs smashed into him. His wooden armor absorbed the bulk of the barrage, while his body could endure the rest. The Matoran hero traversed Le-Wahi with as much clumsy speed as he could manage, barreling towards the northeast of this island of Mata-Nui with each hook of his Volo Lutu Launcher. … “Karzahni, we are lost,” muttered Valka, rubbing his head in his hands, “we could be mios away from the others, they could already be in Ga-Koro by now.” Takarda grasped Valka’s shoulder and declared, “don’t give up yet, Toa Tahu will rescue us, if not the Ta-Koro Guard.” “What were the Guard against those beasts? What good was Tahu?” “Tahu and the Guard overcame the Bohrok Kal, and that was before the Rebuilding, and Tahu had even lost his elemental powers at the time. They will defeat these things yet.” “But Ta-Koro is gone now, sunken into the lava. Even when Le-Koro was conquered by the Bohrok, the village still stood. Now we … we have nothing.” In front of them moved Pomahi, a quiet reserve member of the Ta-Koro Guard. His companions were Lava Farmers, while Pomahi had training in fighting Rahi with a throwing disk. He held a shield in one hand and his disk in the other, ready to fling it. The problem was, it was hard to listen to the sounds of this burnt landscape with the two other Ta-Matoran talking. The nearby churning of lava, the thick smoke, the cracking of burnt sticks under their feet, the crumbling trees and the stink of ash, all of that was already overwhelming his senses, but the two of them deafened him worse. Pomahi attempted to clear his throat to get their attention, but Takarda raised his voice with a hearty shake of Valka’s shoulder, “Don’t forget, we built Ta-Koro once, we can do it again. And Tahu will be there to help us this time.” “The Toa are not invincible, they almost fell to the Bohrok Kal. And Tahu has never failed like he did today. And if Tahu was helpless to stop Ta-Koro from sinking, what can we Matoran do? We are just villagers, even after the Rebuilding we were helpless.” “Listen, we Matoran can still do things.” “Not like the Toa. And Tahu failed us. What chance have we got?” “Hey if you do not trust in me, then at least trust in the Toa, they are our saviors sent from Mata-Nui himself. Think about how much better our lives have been since Tahu and the other Toa arrived on the island. We no longer need fear the Rahi—” The two of them thumped into Pomahi, who had stopped moving, his optics searching through the ashen trees. “What is it?” blurted out Valka, his eyes darting frantically about. “Do not know,” answered Pomahi, before suddenly pivoting on his feet and hurling his disk. The disk whirled through the air, smacking into a Muaka. The Muaka hardly flinched, only peering at them and rumbling out a roar. It was massive, its body was yellow and black, its two ears pulled down to make its colossal body sleeker, it had two powerful front legs and treads underneath its torso. The tiger’s treads whirled as it charged at the trio, snarling as it swung its paw at them. Pomahi lunged into the other Ta-Matoran, helping them duck to the side. The three of them tumbled into the black earth, before picking themselves off and sprinting. Pomahi leaned over to grab his throwing disk as they ran, swiping it up. Behind them was the sound of treads grinding into volcanic rock, the Muaka was still pursued them. The tiger roared as it drew closer, its enormous jaws reeling back— Pomahi spun around and threw his disk at the beast, only for the throwing disk to thump harmlessly off the cat. Instead the Muaka chomped down on him, crushing his body in his teeth. With a pop the magnetized mask on his face was squeezed off, flinging it to the side. Pomahi tumbled to the ground, gasping as his mask skidding to the ground off his face. The Ta-Matoran swayed as he stood up, his legs already starting to buckle. Without a Kanohi on their face; no Matoran could stay conscious for long. He staggered, his grooved naked head swerving around, looking for his mask. He could … he could just about … about … there. He stumbled about, trying to waddle over to his mask. But he felt like the life was being drained of him, he … he fell to his knees and began to crawl, all but dragging himself towards them. He was utterly helpless. Elsewhere Valka was sprinting away with Takarda closely behind. Valka’s heartlight beat like an overzealous Le-Matoran drummer, this was … this was how he was going to die. Not to one of those new beasts, not to a Bohrok-Kal or even a normal Bohrok. Just to a normal Rahi. The Matoran were helpless. Takarda was lying to himself if he thought differently. The Ta-Matoran people were now homeless, scattered, and lost. The Ta-Koro Guard had been defeated, and Tahu had failed despite all his elemental powers. Ta-Koro was gone, their home was gone, and he was going to die to a gigantic cat. Then something whirled through the air past Valka, he startled, only for a Matoran to fly in from the side, hooking his arm around a Valka’s waist. The Ta-Matoran was dragged away, sent tumbling to the side of the Muaka’s rampage. As Valka lay in a heap Kanohi aimed his Volo Lutu Launcher up in front of Takarda. With a press of the trigger he launched the sphere, before being sucked in after it. As he arced by the Ta-Matoran he e tended his arm, scooping up Takarda and carrying him to the side. “Kanohi?” Takarda managed to say as he staggered up, “listen, there is another Ta-Matoran; Pomahi, I think he lost his mask—” Kanohi did not reply, only flinging himself after the Muaka with a blast of his launcher. Takarda watched as Kanohi slammed into the back of the Muaka’s head, making the tiger buck. It began to lurch about, trying to swat at the passenger now on its back. Kanohi was a bit dazed by the impact, but he endured. The Muaka was trying to knock him off, so he just held tight, his optics searching about as the tiger lashed out. Then with a sudden thrust the Muaka butted him off, leaving Kanohi to tumble off his back. He landed on all-fours, panting for breath, before firing his Volo Lutu Launcher. Immediately he hurtled through the air, narrowly avoiding the Muaka’s bite. Then Takarda felt a metallic hand grasp his own, and he was dragged upright to face Pomahi. “He already saved you?” laughed Takarda, “Mata-Nui provides.” “Who is that?” asked Valka, staring after Kanohi as he led the beast away. “Kanohi, a vigilante hero who protects the Matoran through the jungles of Le-Wahi. While the Ta-Koro Guard and the Ussalry remain in their villages, he traversed the south, rescuing travelers and helping the villages in its reaches.” “Like Takua and the rest of the Chronicler’s Company?” “Exactly. They even say he has visions like Turaga Vakama.” “Guess there had to be something special with him, for him to fight a Muaka.” “Can we get to safety now?” asked Pomahi. “Yeah. You … you think he will be okay?” “He’s survived worse,” shrugged Pomahi, before leading them away. … Kanohi grappled across the craggy landscape, maneuvering across the volcanic terrain. He stumbled as he landed, the raw heat and fumes was all-consuming, left his unsteady and uncoordinated on his landings. He was no Ta-Matoran, and thus had no protection from the heat. Not that Takua was comfortable in Ta-Wahi either. Takua; now that was a Matoran. Someone far better than Kanohi. It wasn’t something the vigilante wallowed in, it was just a simple fact. Takua was just as much as a outsider and freak as Kanohi, but unlike Kanohi Takua was not a bandage. Kanohi saved lives, fought Rahi, but he didn’t change things, didn’t improve Mata-Nui. Just kept the Matoran alive and safe.” But Takua? He had gathered the six Toa Stones and brought the Toa to this island, without him the Matoran would still live in fear of the Makuta. There would be no Rebuilding, no unified Mata-Nui, no real trade between the villages. There was a reason Takua had been appointed the Chronicler, while Kanohi had not been. Kanohi meanwhile had built up enough of a lead to think. Spying a particularly rocky region he fluttered free hand, he knew how to fight the Muaka. As he landed in front of a crag he stopped, catching his breath as he aimed his Volo Lutu Launcher. As the Muaka barreled down upon him he launched himself away, leaving the tiger to smack into the pillar of stone. The Muaka staggered from the impact, before Kanohi called out, “Not the Brightest Lightstone in Onu-Koro, are you?” The Muaka snarled and charged at him again, only for Kanohi to launch himself away, and the beast to slam into another mound of rocks. “Wow, I was not sure that you would understand that. Not that I am saying you are are a Kohlii-head, well I suppose I am, but that was not my point.” The Rahi smashed into a rock pulled after him, but Kanohi once more launched away. “What was my point?” muttered Kanohi, who had lost his train of thought. By now the Muaka was tiring, it’s joints were bruised and battered, and it was stumbling about in confusion. “Oh right, just, I am impressed that you understood that metaphor. I struggle with them personally. Or maybe you just understood the tone. Which again, I also struggle with.” He was being sincere. Kanohi liked to ramble off to the Rahi and Bohrok he faced, gave him practice in social situations, made him less of an awkward fool. The Muaka meanwhile slammed head first into another pillar of rock, and stagger under its own weight, before collapsing. It lay faint, staring lazily up at the sky. Kanohi approached the beast, looking it over. It didn’t seem to have an Infected Kanohi, so it was not a servant of the Makuta, just a beast. He nodded and then began to grapple away, heading back towards the Ta-Matoran trio. … Valka was silent, as Takarda chatted to Kanohi. The Po-Matoran kept to the trees above them, leading them towards Le-Koro. He didn’t say much, just nodded or told the trio to change direction. “Seriously, what is it like seeing the dreams of Mata-Nui?” “If they are his dreams, they are confusing.” “What do you mean, if they are his dreams?” “I do not know what they are, only that fire focuses them.” “Well what else could they be?” “I do not know. Tell me more about the three beasts that attacked you. You said they all carried staves? They could think then?” “Who cares about that, Tahu will deal with them.” “He was poisoned, he may take time to recover.” “Ah he is the mightiest of the Toa, he can endure.” Kanohi did not reply, so Takarda smiled with confidence. But besides him Valka asked, “why did you decide to become a Toa.” “I am no Toa,” Kanohi said sharply, and Valka almost flinched with the raw emotion that had boiled out of Kanohi’s mouth.” “Yes but … in the centuries before they came, well, it sounds like you tried to emulate the legends. You rescued Matoran, fought Rahi, saved us even before we were united. Why? You were an outcast, all but banned from Po-Koro. You were that Po-Matoran, right? Dece?” “That was my name. I don’t use it now, nor should you.” “Right but, why did your risk your life?” “There were no Toa then, someone had to.” “But why you? Why an outsider who had attacks in the city streets of Po-Koro?” “…Symbols are important. A Hau means the Great Spirit Mata-Nui, it shows a place is shielded from harm. The symbol of a masked hero with special powers and a strange tool; it could make the Matoran feel less alone. Like Mata-Nui wasn’t ignoring them.” “By why you?” “Because I was alone,” Kanohi answered, “can we stop talking, I do not mean to be rude, but it’s exhausting, and I need to focus on my aim.” “Of course,” answered Pomahi for the group. It was easier to speak up for someone else’s sake than for his own. So the three Toa-Matoran and their protector trekked on through the jungle, Kanohi still dwelling on his visions. Ta-Koro had fallen, he could already heart the drums booming to warn the other villages. Kanohi would have to travel to the other villages soon, help them prepare. These strange beings, three of them had sunken Ta-Koro. And in recent weeks Kanohi had suffered visions foretelling the return of the Makuta. If these beasts were his doing, then the Toa would soon begin great peril. And then there was the matter of this relic Takua had found. According to Pomahi, the Chronicler had discovered a strange Mask of Light; that foretold the arrival of a seventh Toa. And that mask was discovered right before the three reptilian beasts attacked. Takua and Jaller had left with the mask before the attack, so it seemed likely that the Makuta had been searching for them. It would take time to catch up with the duo, and Kanohi’s face-blindness would not help much, but he would try to track them down. He doubted he could help on the quest, but he would do what he could, even if that was only to keep the Koro they passed safe.
  7. CorpusRahkshi All around you is the dark. It is all you have ever known. A liquid gloom that swaddles you better than any blanket, that keeps you safe from the burning gaze of the sun. The only light you need-the only light you want-is the dim green glow that oozes from the crystalline confine that is your entire world. Oh there’s definitely something beyond the glassy walls that cocoon you, but they are dim shadows, patches of deeper blackness within the blackness, beyond your concern and ability to care. You have your world of green gloaming. And it is good. Then suddenly, pressure. Pulling you and pushing you all at once. Squeezing your boneless body through pipes and tubes you hadn’t known ever existed and now desperately wish didn’t exist at all. You are forced, squirming every inch of the way, further from your old home and towards-Ah! Towards pain! You are pressed into something unyielding and cold, so cold! The ooze that held you before was merely cool, this dread chill is new, sharp and biting like you are caught in the maw of some icy beast. Your next new experience is gravity, as you tumble freely until the ground rises to meet you in a cacophonous clang. You begin to realise from the cold, the noise, the inflexibility of the prison you find yourself in that you have gone from a womb of slime to a womb of steel. The metal may close around you tightly, but you are aware that it stretches out far beyond the normal reach of the strip of meat that is your body. Stretches out into gangly limbs, all four naught but metal but…you can feel through them? You’d question how that works but you’re flooded by fresh sensations. Your eyes see better now, freed from the murk of viridescent crystal, and the dark holds no secrets from them as you take in every detail of the cave you find yourself in. You can feel the slight breeze that wafts through the air, bringing with it a smell of musty dampness. You’ve never smelt anything before. It’s…weird. But none of this, not the sight, not the smell, not the sensations, none of it compares to the raw power you can feel flowing through the new you-all of the new you, flesh and metal. You start getting these new limbs in order. Two end in broad feet that are seeking purchase even before you plant them firmly beneath you. Two others end in a tangle of fingers, each one tapering to a wedge-like claw that score shallow gouges into the rock as you push yourself upwards. Standing for the first time is hard. You hadn’t understood how complicated legs were before, there’s so many minute differences in weight and balance that threaten to topple you right back down again. You fight the urge to hold your arms aloft like wings, letting your joints learn how to compensate. Once you’ve mastered standing up, all you want is to run. To chase. To hunt. You want to scale every height of a mountain, to tear down every tree in a forest. Boundless energy bursting through you, its fantastic! Before, when you were tiny and blind, you just felt safe because you were comfortable. Now you feel safe because you’re strong! You could take on the world and win! You need to do something to stamp your place in this new world, something to tell anyone who can hear that you are here now and aren’t going to leave any time soon. The armour plates around your head respond to your subconscious will, pulling back to expose the stub of raw flesh that is your head as you open your mouthparts and scream. It is a scream of defiance backed by the staccato rattling of the spines on our back, a scream to put fear in the hearts of anyone who would see you killed or thrown back to that half-life you now realise you led before. You are here to stay! You…are Rahkshi! Over in the furthest reach of the birthing chamber, hidden behind illusory weaves of shadow that even your eyes could not see through, the Makuta who has been watching the whole scene smiles. For it is good. Welcome! ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Rahkshi. They have always been our stalwart servants. Our eyes, our ears and, if needed, our iron fist. The production of kraata and the design of their armour has been perfected over the many millennia we have been using them so that they are now a shining example of what the biological and the mechanical are capable of when working in unison. Which is why it is somewhat perturbing that they seem to be changing. The “fault”, as I shall call it for now, is a development in their cognitive abilities, allowing them both a range of thought greater than their usual bestial processes and a better capacity to express these thoughts. Put succinctly, they’re getting smarter. Kraata which should be little better than mindless animals seeking to spread corruption purely on instinct are reasoning, imagining and even philosophising. I wouldn’t expect these traits, certainly not to this level, from anything short of a full blown Shadow Kraata yet we now have new-spawns displaying them left, right and centre. It is truly fascinating. At first we were unsure of what to do with this new breed. Study them? Train them? Destroy them? There were a number of voices in favour of that latter option but fortunately saner heads prevailed. After all, who knew what kind of use these smarter Rahkshi could have. Imagine a squad of them with teamwork and co-ordination to rival that of Toa teams. Imagine being able to produce strategic geniuses by the handful instead of waiting for likely to generals to rise through the ranks. Imagine Rahkshi who could be expert spies or assassins instead of simply living wrecking balls. With this ridiculous extended skirmish the Dark Hunters have declared on us entering its tenth year some more advanced troops in the field would help enormously with keeping the regions we possess pacified and under control. Though personally I find myself more intrigued by the scientific possibilities of what this might mean for my fellows and I. Evolution in the kraata could mean another step of evolution for we Makuta, and I wish to be ready if we undergo any more radical changes. The answer to our curiosity and wariness towards the new breed was to re-use our leader’s solution to the Matoran Civil War: stick everything in a box and wait to see the results. And so the Corpus Rahkshi academy was born. A place to properly keep them. A place to properly train them. A place to properly keep an eye on them… Ah Rahkshi. We all know they’re pretty awesome, and this RPG is all about them. Basic summary is that, for whatever reason, the Brotherhood of Makuta’s Rahkshi have started getting smarter. An increasing number of them are no longer behaving like feral creatures but have begun developing personalities and increased intelligence. The Makuta decided they’d keep these Rahkshi around rather than atomise them so created a big old school to teach them and, if need be, contain them. You play as one of the new Rahkshi. Sorry, no exceptions. You’ll be joining the student body, and get to undergo the daily life of a walking weapon being trained by a (quite literally) shadowy organisation. What could possibly go wrong? Locations ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ I was deemed to most suitable to oversee the Corpus Rahkshi project. I am one of the Brotherhood’s chief scientific minds, and the one least likely to simply give them more teeth and let them loose on an innocent population. Yes Chirox, I know you’re reading this. In addition I control the island of Nynrah, giving me access not just to some of the most industrious and ingenious craftsmen the world has to offer but to the resources and infrastructure those same craftsmen use to ship raw materials and finished products. The perfect place to ensure a small army of Rahkshi are properly housed and maintained and enable any damage they cause to be rapidly fixed. There’s no other way of saying it, I was the perfect choice. The academy was constructed using a pet project of Mutran’s; that odd growing rock he is inordinately fond of. Given an energy supply to prevent it consuming the students and proper constraints to mould it into appropriate shape, it allowed us to quickly develop and construct an adaptable and self-repairing building to hold the Rahkshi. Most useful. The RPG takes place in the eponymous Corpus Rahkshi Academy, a castle-like building on its own island just off the south coast of Nynrah. The centre comprises of four blocks of accommodation enveloping a square courtyard, with longer wings on its east and west flanks. Built out of the same stuff the Mountain on Xia is made of, it can fix itself up in case of…incidents and be reconfigured if a room needs to be repurposed. And speaking of rooms, here’s a few of the more important areas within the school grounds. The Gymnasium ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Physical training is of course a must. If we intend to put these Rahkshi into the field as soldiers then they’ll need to be in peak condition, and versed in all forms of combat and warfare. The Gym is a huge hall, large enough that its almost its own separate building tacked on to the east side of the academy. In its base state it is a big, empty, upturned bowl but it is the most malleable of the all the school facilities. Want a duel? It can manifest an arena. Want a naval battle? It can simulate water. It has been specifically created to provide any imaginable threat to keep the Rahkshi on their toes. The Library ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Since the students have been blessed with advanced minds, let them make use of them. Intelligence in one’s underlings is like a flower; for it to properly bloom it must be given the right ground to take root in and sustenance to feed on. And, if needs be, a bit of pruning from time to time… The Library, located in the Academy’s west wing, is full of a surprisingly diverse range of subjects. There are the obvious books on martial arts and tactics, but they share the building with tomes on anatomy, zoology, engineering, chemistry, architecture, with encyclopaedias, and a seemingly endless catalogue of historical archives. Sure the warfare section is noticeably closer to the entry as a subtle hint, and the histories have been edited and worded with a Makuta-favourable bias but hey, its the thought that counts right? The Refectory ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Its a necessity that the Rahkshi be fed, but I see no reason to go to any extensive expense or strife to do so. They are here to learn, not to feast. In the Academy’s eastern wing, conveniently close to the Gym, is the Refectory. It is fairly uninteresting architecturally, being little more than an enclosed box lined with long dining tables. But as the place where all those growing kraata go to eat it’s a focal point of interaction and communication. Shame the only food they serve is a kind of thick gruel, high on nutrition but low on taste. Dormitories ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Some say we have been a little overly optimistic in how many dormitories we have, since the entire south block is, at present, entirely unused. I say that is an unimaginative viewpoint. There’s always a use for an empty room or fifty. Along with the courtyard that they surround the dorms form the central hub of Corpus Rahkshi. Each room houses a single Rahkshi and are not particularly spacious, containing just one bed and a boxy cupboard for storage. The idea being that such spartan living will encourage the Rahkshi to go out and fill their days with activity rather than laze around listlessly. And for the cleaning and maintenance of their armour suits, each floor has its own washroom, communal arrangements complete with cold and colder running water. Chirox Causeway ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Technically the students are not permitted to visit the mainland, however in practice there is nothing really that can be done to stop them short of keeping them in chains every second of every day. And thats really only a last resort solution. So I have endeavoured to make the journey, if not exactly perilous, then at least…entertaining. Rather than have a bridge connecting the Academy’s island with mainland Nynrah I had placed a series of irregularly positioned hexagonal pillars, the idea being that the students gain some small manner of exercise from jumping across or flying through them. The name comes from the causeway’s likeness to a set of teeth rising from the sea, and we all know how our esteemed colleague prefers his monsters toothy. Still reading, Chirox? If you want to go from the Academy to the mainland by foot then you must use the Chirox Causeway, a network of pillars all at varying distances and heights. The students, being Rahkshi, can of course just fly over but some like the challenge of trying to navigate the Causeway’s twists and turns. Off Campus Locations ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ The island of Nynrah -my island of Nynrah- is the ideal place for an assortment of unknown quantities like the evolved Rahkshi. It is out of the way of any random passers by, has a nearby harbour to ship in supplies and, potentially the most useful of all, is home to the famed Nynrah Ghosts, craftsman without equal. At first we tried forbidding the students from visiting the mainland…and every single one of them ignored the order. So until we can train or breed this disobedient streak out of them we have compromised and requested they keep their excursions restricted to night hours. The Academy is not the only location in the game. Nynrah plays host to it and there are areas where the student body likes to frequent. The Ghosts are perfectly happy to sell their wares to the students, who usually pay by doing odd jobs or helping out in small ways. And while it is generally frowned upon to visit them during daylight, its not really going to get you any serious repercussions if you do. Just…try not to get caught. Phantom-on-the-Water ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ The Ghosts are an illusive kin. It is how they earned the name after all. So I only feel confident saying that Phantom-on-the-Water is the only village entirely comprised of the craftsmen if I am permitted to affix the addendum “that we know of”. Spanning either side of the River Eidolon it is a mess of smoking chimneys and glowing furnaces, with dying embers and the sound of hammers filling the air. Nothing is ever still, nothing is ever quiet. I suppose it would appeal to a certain sort of person but I personally prefer peace and solitude in which to contemplate important matters. For their part the Ghosts seem unexpectedly happy at having the Academy nearby, possibly as having a building full of Rahkshi just next door discourages any snoops seeking them out. To most of the outside world Phantom-on-the-Water is just another village full of Fe-Matoran and the industry they love. It churns out well-made but none too special weaponry, maybe a few more ornate trinkets from time to time, but is otherwise indistinguishable from the other settlements on the island. But what the Brotherhood, and by extension you the players, are aware of is that is it headquarters for the ingenious Nynrah Ghosts, a group of Matoran who have always been a bit…looser with their morals than others. Either through avarice or sheer love of their craft they’re generally quite happy to make anything if offered the right price… The Cauldron After running through Phantom-on-the-Water the River Eidolon ends at a series of steep cliffs known as Blacksmith’s Bluffs. Where the course of the river stays truest it has managed to wear these cliffs down into a sandy beach the Ghosts use as a harbour for shipping. But the river splits off into a delta of many little streams and tributaries, most of which aren’t strong enough to erode the cliffs down and instead wind up spilling over the edge as a number of waterfalls. And the largest and most powerful of these falls has wound up carving away at the base of the cliffs, where the hammering of waves already weakened it. The combined might of all that water has opened up a fairly sizeable cave that, due to the turbulent curtain of spray that conceals it, has become referred to by the Ghosts as the Cauldron. They use it for smuggling as, so far at least, the Brotherhood is unaware of its presence. The Rahkshi students, on the other hand, know full well it exists and have adopted it for a similar purpose; smuggling and storing items otherwise considered contraband, be they specialised weaponry or just food nicer than the slop served in the Refectory. On the subject of Rahkshi ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Anyone with the clearance to read these notes is already well aware of what Rahkshi are capable of. I see no point in compiling a list of what everyone already knows and don’t appreciate having my time wasted on such pointless tasks. ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ …I have been informed that for the sake of completeness I need to make a short reference piece on what Rahkshi can do in case the students demonstrate greater prowess. Very well then. In terms of sheer physical strength Rahkshi are blessed with greater power than their somewhat gangly frame would suggest. They’re much stronger than Toa, and could even give one of the Skakdi a decent challenge in an arm wrestle or other such test of brawn. With this strength comes a good deal of durability; extensive testing has concluded that a Rahkshi could be thrown or driven through a solid stone wall without any permanent damage. However that is not to say they could shrug it off, their armour does feel pain. It was necessary to give them tactile senses so they could feel temperature changes, know if they were attacked from behind, pick things up without applying pressure enough to crush them, etc. We were at least able to make it so a Rahkshi armour keeps the kraata inside relatively safe from exposure to light, which even the new breed remain depressingly vulnerable to if bright enough. Their metal casings stop sunlight from burning their skin but do little to stop it affecting their sight; Rahkshi are like Onu-Matoran, their vision is near-perfect in the dark but tends to blur or fade the brighter the light gets. The fault in the new breed that gives them their intelligence also allows them to fight down the instinctive fear and dislike of sunlight but it still tends to disorientate and confuse them, a weakness which should leave them once they mature enough. All the more reason for the academy to exist, to train them up to a level they are high enough to shrug off these detrimental effects altogether. From strength to speed but alas, this is nothing too special. It was impossible to engineer the armour to be any faster than normal without it also wearing through its joints at an alarming rate. Their reaction speed, on the other hand, is suberb. A Rahkshi would have no trouble snatching a thrown knife or Kanoka right out of the air, though launched projectiles (a cordak or zamor sphere, for example) would give them a bit more trouble. Rahkshi on the whole, though, are better built for cross-country, their durability giving them excellent stamina, their long limbs giving them a decent stride and broad feet providing excellent traction. Assuming they stick to land rather than simply taking to the air a Rahkshi could keep running for days on end. These estimations are, of course, barring the use of any powers the Rahkshi have. And speaking of powers, those seem to be developing as normal in the new breed. Whatever fault they have that has changed their mentality has not changed that much, at least to the limited degree they have developed so far. And, for anyone voicing their doubts on the significance of the change in our Rahkshi, or questioning what military use this study of them has, I remind those voices that we never expected even the original Rahkshi to able to form Kaita. Yet look how useful a trait that was and continues to be. And yes, for the record, the new breed have demonstrated the capability to form Kaita, which only leads me to question what is going through three of these more advanced minds when they're all crammed into one body. Which finally leads me to the newfound intelligence of the Rahkshi. It differs a little between each individual, as it does with any sapient species, but the new breed seem to have brainpower in the same range as your average Matoran. Which is interesting as, so far, they're still all at a fairly early stage in their development. Will their intelligence continue to grow as they level up? And if so, how smart would a new breed be at the sixth stage? Or as a Shadow Kraata? Perhaps we already have level six Rahkshi with the same fault and they're smart enough to conceal it. Its certainly easy to overlook or miss even in the confirmed cases. I know many of my fellows believe that their inability to speak Matoran means the new breed are still little better than rahi, but this is purely a physical limitation. They understand Matoran, and often many other languages, perfectly fine but their mouths are just not built right for the job of speaking it...so they've developed their own language. Its spread through the school like wildfire, all the students have mastered it. And I recently discovered a few of the Ghosts had picked it up as well, I suspect in anticipation of what constant customers the students may become. With this in mind we may need to curtail visits to the mainland a little more... Playing as a Rahkshi means you get a few advantages, what with being encased in solid metal and all. You’re stronger and tougher than you would be as, say, a Toa. You’re nowhere near invincible but you’re packing enough brute power to give anything that isn’t Krekka level brawny a really bad day. Oh, but since kraata are mentally linked with the armour they inhabit (since thats how they move it and all) you’re going to feel any damage that gets inflicted upon it. Basically you can’t pull a Black Knight and claim losing an arm ’tis but a scratch is what I’m saying. You start as a fairly newborn kraata, which would normally put you at level one but thanks the boost from being made Rahkshi and the few months you’ve spent training at the academy your powers are currently at the second level. This would be so you have powers that might be of some actual use, though you’re not quite at the point where you could level cities so a bit of creativity and imagination in how you use them is going to go a long way. This would also make them, in human terms, something akin to teenagers. You can also fly, a standard Rahkshi ability, an action which takes about as much energy to maintain as a light jog. You also need to be able to get into the ‘reclined’ position, but thats only going to be a problem if you’ve got a trapped foot or something. Kaita are also possible, though there are a few restrictions on forming them. First, they can only be formed by characters from three players, no roping in a couple of NPCs to make yourself suddenly bigger and stronger. And each specific combination requires a profile be filled out and approved beforehand of what the Kaita would look like and what additional power it gets upon formation. Finally, in a slight change from how Rahkshi Kaita usually work, the minds of all three participants are present and have the potential to control the one body, but they have to be working together to maintain the fusion. You can't simply have one player performing one action while another makes an entirely different and separate attack and the third trying to retreat because that loss of unity will result in the Kaita simply dissolving back into three Rahkshi. You need to all be working together to the one goal, co-ordinating your efforts as a team for the Kaita to actually work. The Staff You guys and your Rahkshi aren’t the only ones at the school, naturally. It has a small contingent of staff in place to act as anything from teachers to janitors. Growing Rahkshi need a lot of looking after you see. Here’s a bit more detail on the characters who’ll be doing their best to keep you in line. Tridax ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ I feel it would be no exaggeration to say I was really the only possible choice for the position of Corpus Rahkshi’s headmaster. In addition to the many advantages my rank and position gives me I am one of the few Makuta who takes a very serious scientific interest in kraata and their development. While lesser minds are content to simply create monster after monster, I find my interests leaning towards understanding and improving those creatures that are, after all, a part of ourselves. The Makuta of Nynrah, put in charge of Corpus Rahkshi possibly because he kept telling people he was the best man for the job more than because he actually was. He doesn’t really consider the Rahkshi to be people or individuals, but tools. Weapons. Things he can study and examine, like an entomologist pinning butterflies. Fortunately his other duties with the Brotherhood keep him relatively busy and he tends to leave the day to day running of the school to his subordinates Suvak and Palma. Suvak ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Suvak is a Skakdi, a veteran captain from the wars of Zakaz who was forced into, shall we say, early retirement when a particularly nasty battle took the arm, leg and most his face off the right side of his body. Cybernetic replacements for these were the payment that lured him into being Corpus Rahkshi’s Drillmaster. If I were to describe him in a few words it would be ’solid’ or perhaps ‘dependable’. His tactics in Zakaz were all tried and true, tested through use in repeated battles, which won him a few victories but ultimately got him outwitted by one of the more imaginative warlords who preferred to invent their own strategies. Still, we need no battles won, we need someone who knows how to handle and train very dangerous individuals, and I feel confident leaving our students in his somewhat predictable hands. Despite the fact that he is technically only in charge of the students’ physical training, making him a glorified PE teacher, Suvak is generally the one who handles most of the academy’s daily business and is directly under Tridax in the hierarchy. His right arm and leg are entirely mechanical, the silver and grey stark against his natural green and gold colouring, as is the metal plate covering the missing half of his face. But don’t think that makes his eyesight, or his laser vision, any less accurate. He is not quite as harsh a taskmaster as Tridax seems to think he though, as he is a decent enough commander to understand that down-time is not just important but pretty much necessary. You can’t keep your troops constantly wound up or they’ll snap, so he is perfectly happy to let the students do what they like with their time off regardless of how little military potential Tridax may see in it. Palma ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Someone was needed to make sure the students were kept hale and hearty, and given how likely, or rather certain it was that the students would injure themselves or others that someone needed to be very very good at their job. I selected Palma for this task, a Rahkshi that has been in my service for many years now. Its knowledge of medical matters is unrivalled by any, and I would say outclasses even some of my fellow Makuta. In addition I feel that, as a loyal and well-trained Rahkshi, it makes an excellent example of what the students should be aspiring to. Palma is a Rahkshi of Quick Healing, and while not one of the new breed has intelligence enough from being a full-blown Shadow Kraata that she can match wits with them. Oh yes, thats right, Palma identifies as female, something she has only started to do in recent months. Seems the personalities of the students might be a little catching. Normally a bog standard brown and black, the colours of her kind, she’s adopted the practise of colouring the armour plates of her shoulders white with crossing red bands running across them, signifying her more supportive medical role. Though school nurse is not the limit of her role, she also acts as unofficial teacher of biological and anatomical matters that the students ask after, a fair number wishing to become healers themselves. The Porters ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ The Porters are a batch of what I understand have been named ‘Fohrok’ by some of the underlings within the Brotherhood. Admittedly the last time we commissioned an army of these machines it did not turn out so well, but after promising not to exact any more vengeance on the Ghosts once we had eliminated those responsible for that fiasco we managed to broker another deal. We have a small platoon of them to carry out maintenance and fix things the living building cannot fix itself. And, for reasons I cannot explain, they have a bizarre fixation on the flower beds around the dormitory courtyard. Curious. Carrying out most of the more menial tasks are the Porters, funny little things that can often be seen rolling about the school heading to whatever needs fixing. They’re harmless really, and quite polite in a passive and completely silent way. If you get in their way they’ll just stand stock still, chittering slightly, until you move. Still enough of them in one place, with their yellow and black colours and unblinking glowing eyes, and they bear an unsettling resemblance to a swarm of large land-bound wasps. Their unusual fascination with tending the small garden in the dormitory area is a little gift from the Nynrah Ghosts, this time being a bit more subtle in their efforts to prevent the Fohrok being used as an army. Assignments ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Most of the time I am happy to let the Rahkshi simply develop as they will. Why force a natural strategist to haul weights, why teach a keen healer to break bones rather than set them, why cage a skilled martial warrior within a prison of books? The students each have different talents, often depending on their personalities rather than powers, and any talent can have a purpose to someone with enough reason to see its use. There a few occasions where I feel a little more…direction is needed. Just to give the students a push along the right path. These assignments will usually be long term projects for the students to complete but I understand Suvak is planning a few that are a little more instant in their gratification. This RPG is, in general, a sandbox that simply lets you play around with the fact that you’re in a high school made for and filled with Rahkshi. But if the inevitable craziness that will ensue from that premise doesn’t sate your role-playing needs then the Corpus Rahkshi staff will be giving your characters various projects or missions. Think of them as mid-terms. The first of these projects will be started as soon as the game gets off the ground. These assignments are not mandatory, but taking part and completing them will give you a decent boost to your experience and boost how fast you level up. Profile To join up you’ll need to write up a profile and get it approved (with this rule and profile also applying to any Kaita you wish to form). I’ll go a bit more in depth into what each one is about but if you think you’ve got the hang of it then here’s the basic form for you to copy and fill in. There is currently no limit on how many characters you can create. Name: Variation: Level: Gender: Gear: Appearance: Personality: Bio: And with that here’s a little more information that should help answer any questions you might have, thought if you still have any feel free to just ask. Names ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ As representations of their individuality, most of the students have picked out names of their own choosing. Some have taken a word they find particularly meaningful or identifiable. Others have just mashed a random series of syllables together. I know of at few who have simply named themselves after the first thing they saw with Rahkshi eyes. I’m sure they consider it most poetic but having a dozen students all called Floor makes it very difficult to tell them apart. A fairly self-explanatory section, simply give your character a name. And since your characters are going round just making up their own names you’ve got pretty much free rein over what you pick. Heck I’ll even allow real world names if they’re not glaringly obvious. Just be warned, if you choose to name your character something like SuperShadoSlug616 then, while it won’t be automatically disallowed, you can expect your character to be mocked at every turn for every waking second of every day for naming themselves something so ridiculous. Variation ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ The fault that causes the enhanced mental capacity of the students does not seem to be limited to any particular genus of kraata. Each of the forty-two different sub-species of known and catalogued kraata has at least one representative within the student body. Another fairly simple one, what are you a Rahkshi of? You have forty-two flavours to pick from ranging from Ice Resistance to Plasma, bound to be one that takes your fancy. Level ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ So far all the new breed of kraata are, well, new. All of them are recently created, there’s none older than a year. In a way I quite like seeing them so fresh and raw, it means I have greater opportunity to study their development. As mentioned previously all characters will start off at level 2, which I’d hoped would be a decent compromise between giving you some actually effective abilities while not making them so powerful you can just blast your way through problems without thinking. Levelling your character up will be decided by the staff on a case by case basis. If you’ve been posting very frequently, having your character train a lot and interact a lot then of course you’re going to level up, its just common sense. But if perhaps you don’t have as much free time and don’t post as much but make sure each of your posts is a well crafted thing of beauty, then thats going to earn you credit just the same. Also worth noting is that, despite the Brotherhood’s best efforts to focus Corpus Rahkshi on more military aspects of life, you do get experience for other activities since, with your characters being so young, everything is a new experience for them. Go learn smithing from the Nynrah Ghosts, form a band with some friends, both just as valid a method for levelling up as regular sessions at the Gym. There are many roads to be becoming a Shadow Kraata and they’re all as valid as each other. Gender ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Hmm. No, even my superior mind has trouble with this particular concept. I never thought of Rahkshi as either male or female in any aspect of my works or life before and frankly care little about it now. I suppose that if we’re going to call them Sons of Makuta it makes sense to let some choose to be our Daughters instead. You might think this one is fairly simple, but I’ve done things a little differently. See, I figure since Rahkshi are just slugs in armour any gender they have is entirely their up to own choice and preference, so why stick with just the binary male/female option. If you want feel free to, for example, be both. Or neither. Or alternate between them depending what day it is. The Rahkshi are getting a completely free choice in the matter, I don’t see why you players shouldn’t as well. Gear ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ We were a little reluctant to give the students authentic Rahkshi staves right off the mark given how untested they were. Who knew what kind of boosting or accelerating effect it would have on them? So instead they were given access to the academy’s small armoury where they could pick out simple weaponry for day to day use. However we have started to notice this weaponry getting a lot less simple, and the students starting to carry more intricate gadgets. I strongly suspect the Ghosts’ involvement but, as yet, do not know how or where they are getting this equipment into the school. This would be for what your character carries around with them. Owning some form of weaponry is about as close to a uniform as the school gets, and you needn’t feel restricted to the long staffs that are the Rahkshi’s trademark. This would also be the place to list more personal items. Maybe you have some trinket or gewgaw, maybe you carry some tools, maybe you’ve got yourself an instrument, that sort of thing. Though with these and the weapons don’t overdo it with how amazing or powerful they are. You may have the Nynrah Ghosts making you stuff but they still want paying and you’re limited by what you can practically afford. Favours can only get you so far. Appearance ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ The differences between the regular Rahkshi and the newly developed variety is purely mental, there’s no obvious physical differences between the two species. Well, not until the new breed start expressing themselves again. They’ve developed a taste for body modifications, adding designs or piercings to themselves to distinguish themselves from each other. Its unusual but ultimately harmless. Yes you’re going to look like a Rahkshi, that much is obvious, but have you made any changes or additions to yourself? Perhaps your character has picked up some tattoos or armour decals. Perhaps you’ve changed your standard colours up to confuse your enemies. Or maybe you’re just naturally a little different from other Rahkshi, a bit burlier or a bit shorter and such. Just let the creative juices flow. Personality ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ A consequence of the increased brainpower the students is that they’re exhibiting much more developed identities and personalities than normal. Rahkshi usually have certain traits that define their particular variation -a Guurahk will carefully study its prey, a Kurahk is always be swift to anger and so on- but what the new breed are demonstrating is much more advanced and often not even related to those traits. Which makes so little sense it offends me. I know there’s a decent sized chunk of players who don’t like these sections, and prefer to let their characters personality show through their writing, but I figured since the entire point of the RPG is that the Rahkshi are developing personalities of their own then a section in the profile was probably needed. Doesn’t need to be an essay, maybe just a brief description of the basic traits of your character. Bio ~From the Notes and Observations of Makuta Tridax, Master of the Isle of Nynrah~ Most of the students are new to this world so haven’t had a chance to build up much of a career or reputation. However I’m sure that within the groups and cliques that are forming within the student body there are many that would consider themselves important. As a freshly created beings your bios aren’t going to be too long, most of your entire existence so far consists of the months you’ve sent at the school. But thats still plenty of time to have accomplished things. Leant some new skills, made something you’re proud of, made some choices about your life, lots to be done. And feel free to talk with your friends, arrange for your characters to also be friends (or indeed enemies) in-game, you’ve had the time to build relationships like that. Rules BZP rules do, of course, apply. Should go without saying but I’m going to anyway No god-modding thank you. This includes pulling new powers out of nowhere, defeating hundreds of enemies without breaking a sweat, shrugging off any attack that hits you and so forth. By similar token don’t go controlling other people’s characters too much without their permission. Having them do something minor or speak a few words isn’t too much of a quibble but keep anything too big for your own characters. Don’t be too silly with your RPing. I know this is a game about teenage Rahkshi in a high school but thats no excuse to go around with a custard pie gun shooting everyone in the face. Unless you have a perfectly legitimate reason for it at least. Playing the game is really simple. You simple use the acronym IC (In Character) to denote what it is your character is doing or saying, and OOC (Out Of Character) for anything that is you as a person. For example: IC: Floor waited in line at the Refectory, wondering if today would be the greyish sludge with mysterious lumps or the mysterious sludge with greyish lumps OOC: Available for interaction if anyone wants to be next in line Since people will be reading your posts to know whats going on please try to keep them as legible and understandable as possible. Grammar is your friend. Try not to take things too personally. If one player’s character is attacking or insulting one of your characters it is not an attack on you by proxy. I’ve seen even veteran RPers forget this on occasion so just bear it in mind. Well thats all the boring stuff out the way, lets get this started and have fun!
  8. This would be the Discussion Topic for the Corpus Rahkshi RPG. Post any all OOC stuff here, plus any profiles to be looked over and Approved. I'll also be keeping track of what assignments are ongoing and who's taking part just for the sake of convenience. Oh, and here's a blank profile in case you were in quick need of one. 9. Hello there. First time posting here, though a small number of you might know about me - I was that guy selling those pink Stormer helmets a while back. I've decided to post here myself because I don't want to overwork the poor @Mask Hunter Lewa :V. I've recently put my Wild Kraata on sale (they're on my Bricklink account if you're interested in checking them out: https://store.bricklink.com/Highbrow98#/terms ) and discovered that one of them doesn't fit any of the existing variants. Previously, I believed that's a Kraata of Slowness, but I was mistaken. It's entirely Medium Blue with a thin layer of silver covering most of the head and tail. Lewa, who lives in the same country, has one like it too. We've done some research and came up with nothing. A user here said that it's propably a Guurahk Kraata, but missing the Sand Blue component of Metallic Blue - resulting in a Silver/Medium Blue variant. As mentioned above, I've decided not to collect Kraata and part with what I have. But I have no idea how much to ask for this misprint. There's no (easily found) record of one like it ever being sold and so far we know of only two existing pieces. So I came here looking for offers. May list it on ebay later, I don't know. This one's mine: And this one's Lewa's, for reference: https://imgur.com/xotLDiZ https://imgur.com/hij3BBp https://imgur.com/2LQlaWz
  10. Here some images I took of the Rahkshi and Bohrok-Kal. I haven't posted much recently, so I felt compelled to do so now. I hope you enjoy. Rahkshi Vorahk in the outskirts of Onu-Wahi. Nuhvok-Kal patrolling Le-Wahi's Surface. Lehvak-Kal lying in wait, hidden amongst the thick undergrowth. Rahkshi Lerahk watching from high above. Nuhvok-Kal observing the area. Nuhvok-Kal trudging through the thick swamps of Le-Wahi. Lehvak-Kal tearing through the Fau Swamp.

  12. Far far away, in a quiet Matoran village, Nomar and Cives were sleeping soundly in their beds. Well, Nomar was, Cives was wide awake. It was Christmas eve! Cives couldn’t wait for Santa to come and deliver presents. He rolled over and whispered, “Are you awake?” “Yes,” Nomar grumbled, amazed at his friend's stupidity. “I am now.” “I haven’t been able to fall asleep, do you think Santa has come yet?” “No” Nomar said flatly. “Why not? It’s past midnight!” “He won’t come until you fall asleep.” “But I can’t!” There was a hint of desperation in Cives’ voice. “I’m too excited” Nomar rolled over again, “Just relax and be patient.” “Ok,” Cives said sheepishly. He remained quiet and after what felt like hours of tossing and turning sleep finally crept into his eyes. He never expected what came next. --- THUMP! Both matoran quickly sat up in bed. “What was that?” Whispered Nomar. “Maybe it is Santa!” Cives said quite loudly. “Shhh!” Hissed Nomar. “Be quiet.” Bump, bump, bump. Something was walking across the roof, headed for the chimney. It descended into the house with a thump! “Let’s go check it out!” said Cives. “Ok,” Whispered Nomar, “But be quiet and stay behind me.” He pulled out a lightstone and they crept to the door. Both matoran peered out into the hall. Seein it was empty and completely silent, they tip-toed to the living room. In the dim light they saw a huge shape lying on the floor. Cives gasped, and the shape began to stir. It stood up slowly, it had large spines running down it’s back, a small snake like head, and a huge, muscular, hunchbacked body. Although they had never seen anything like it they knew exactly what it was. “Rahkshi!” They screamed as they bolted for the door, but their path was blocked by another, smaller Rahkshi. Before they could react it knocked them both out with it’s staff. “You need to be more careful Xara,” Hoto, the smaller Rahkshi said in a strange, hissing, language. “You must have woken these two up.” “It’s not my fault that they are light sleepers!” Xara snapped back. Hoto eyed a plate of cookies. “Do you think he has been here?” “Let’s find out.” Xara picked up a gift from under the christmas tree, shook it, then tore it open with one swift motion. Out fell a Kanohi Hau, it was a sickly green color with patches of orange rust, not the most impressive gift. “What a cunning plan,” Xara mused. “Place these infected masks under the tree. Then when the Matoran wake up they will rush out, tear open their presents, then you have your own personal army. “That’s why our friends are combing the village,” Hoto said. “”We will catch him.” “I know,” sighed Xara, “But do we really have to climb down every single chimney?” --- Meanwhile, down the street two more Rahkshi, with markings showing their powers of poison and teleportation respectively, were also going house to house, but they were having considerably less trouble. The teleportation Rahkshi was staring at a window. He screwed up his face, then suddenly vanished and reappeared inside the house. He then Reached into his bag and pulled out a package, placing it carefully under the tree before teleporting out of the house. “How much longer must we do this, Master Poly?” The teleportation Rahkshi said to his companion. “I am getting tired...” Poly gave him a cold stare. “I want an infected mask on every matoran in this village, so don’t stop until you have visited every house!” He slapped the other Rahkshi in the face. “Unless you want to be Floor in more than name.” “S-sorry, master,” Floor stammered as he knelt on the ground. “Good, now get back to work!” Floor turned and prepared to teleport into the next house. Poly’s face twisted into a cruel smirk. He scanned the sky. An ice bat flew past, but otherwise the night was silent. Little did Poly know that ice bat had a mission, and a name. Ivan fluttered across the rooftops away from the villains towards his master Vlad, who was struggling to pull himself out of a chimney. Vlad was a Rahkshi of hunger, although he didn’t look like it, since he had painted himself bright gold. He flopped out of the chimney and Ivan landed on his shoulder. “Vat is it Ivan? Have you found zem?” The bat made a chirping noise, shaking it’s head up and down. “Ok, lead the vay, just one zecond…” He turned to the chimney and helped pull out another Rahkshi who was armed only with a large shield. “Ivan has found the villains!” The other Rahkshi smiled, “Let's go get them!” They took off, soaring over the rooftop until… --- Poly heard the sound of something flying through the air. “Hide,” he hissed at Floor. Floor teleported into an alleyway and Poly hid himself in the shadows of a porch. Vlad and Shield came in for a smooth landing, “You said zey vere here?” Vlad asked his pet, “I don’t see anybody.” “Thy might still be nearby,” Shield replied. “I’ll go this way, you go that way.” The two Rahkshi spit up. Poly smiled and began to follow Vlad. Floor got the message and stepped out of his alleyway once Shield passed him. Floor smiled and shifted the weight of his bag, letting it slide off his back. The presents inside shuffled. Vlad’s ears picked up the sound and he spun shouting “Look out Shield!” Poly leaped at Vlad, not bothering to draw a weapon. Shield spun, and Floor smacked him in the face with the bag of presents. The fight was on. --- Up on the housetop Hoto paused, She heard banging and shouting. Looking around, she caught sight of the fight going down the street. “Xara, I’m going to check that out.” Xara was trying to haul herself out of the chimney. “Hoto wait!” It was too late, Hoto had already taken off. “Oh, well,” Xara mumbled, “I guess I may as well send the signal.” She pointed her hand into the sky and launched off a bolt of chain lightning. Meanwhile, the fight wasn’t going too well. Vlad and Poly were pretty evenly matched, considering both of their powers required physical contact, but Floor had already knocked Shield out with his bag of gifts. Vlad was outnumbered. The two other Rahkshi circled him, looking for an opening. Poly lunged, and Hoto dived, striking Poly in the head with her staff. Poly fell on the ground, and Hoto lunged to pin him. “Don’t” Vlad shouted, tackling Hoto to protect her from Poly’s poisonous touch. Floor decided it was time to make his exit, he turned and sprinted down the street only to find his path blocked by two more Rahkshi. Screwing up his face again he concentrated, and instantly teleported past them. Suddenly he felt a strange pain in his ankle. He stopped and looked down. A small Ussal crab had grabbed him with it’s pincher. “Get off you stupid animal!” He shook his leg, trying to dislodge the critter. “Hey!” Someone said, “Claws is not stupid!” Floor looked up just in time to get punched in the face by one of the Rahkshi. --- Poly and Hoto were engaged in an intense battle, Vlad was laying on the ground. When he had protected Hoto Poly had lunged and poisoned him instead, taking him out of the fight. The two Rahkshi were a blur of movement. Poly attacking viciously with his rapier, Hoto defending with her staff. Poly swung and Hoto blocked, but Poly followed up with a kick that sent Hoto sprawling. Before she could get back up she was already pinned, a poisons rapier pointed at her throat. “Give up,” Poly said, “these Motoran are mine.” “I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” Hoto said. Poly frowned, ready to make the killing blow. “I won’t waste words with you, AAAARRRG!” there was a bright flash and Poly crumpled to the ground. Xara descended, electricity still crackling from her hands. “It looks like I am just in time,” she said. Drawing her swords. “I recommend you don’t get up Poly.” Poly didn’t, the shock had knocked him out. Two more Rahkshi descended from the sky, one turned to help Vlad while the other walked over to revive shield. “Well,” Said Hoto, “What now?” Two more Rahkshi approached, dragging Floor and his bag of gifts, their Ussal crab chittering happily. “How about we throw these two in their own bag and haul them off.” One of them suggested. “I’m not sure if we could carry them that far.” Xara replied. Hoto stood up, “If we all work together it shouldn’t be that bad. I saw some rope over there. Tomorrow is Christmas, I am sure the Matoran won’t mind if we ‘borrow’ it.” The eight Rahkshi got busy and within minutes they were ready for take off. They had shoved Poly and Floor into the bag and tied the bag shut with the rope. Each Rakshi held a rope going back to the bag. “Ok,” Said Xara, “Three, two, one, GO!” The Rakshi shifted into flight mode and, in unison soared off into the night, laughing with joy at their accomplishment. Down in the village Cives began to stir. He stood up, looked outside, and thought he saw eight flying beasts pulling a sleigh full of goodies in the sky. “Nomar,” he shouted, “Santa was here!” --- Just a short story I wrote biased on my favorite RPG. Merry Christmas, I hope you enjoyed it! Constructive criticism is appreciated.
  13. Hello, I posted a topic for these earlier this year but it has since died; so this is a re-post of this topic. Anyway, I have quite the haul of Bionicle sets that have been packed away for years and I'd like to get rid of them for more space and money towards my gaming collection; as such, I am not looking to trade for other sets. Ideally I'd like to part with everything, so with that said here is what I've got: Strikeouts indicate sold items, while bold indicate on hold items. 2001 8531 Pohatu 8532 Onua 8533 Gali 8534 Tahu 8535 Lewa 8536 Kopaka 8537 Nui-Rama Toa Mata Promo Mini CD x1 8540 Vakama 8541 Matau 8542 Onewa 8543 Nokama 8544 Nuju 8545 Whenua 8546 Power Pack (No original box. This will probably be the last time I post this topic, anything I have left over will just get sold in a lot locally. Note: I'm also willing to trade for items on my gaming wish list. Thanks!
  14. So, yeah. It kind of speaks for itself. And this has caused some confusion on other platforms but, the first pic is actually of the moc too! other angles: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Ids5621/Rahkshi/img_20171001_130554.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Ids5621/Rahkshi/img_20171001_120355754.jpg
  15. Something was not right in the evening atmosphere of the camp. The warrior had not determined what might be causing this feeling of uneasiness, but a lack of obvious causes didn’t mean he was wrong to feel it. He had learned long ago to trust his instincts. In his line of work, one did not live long without those. Bending. Breaking. Crumpling. One who trusts his instincts acts quickly and decisively to prevent tragedy. Suddenly there came the sound of hurried footsteps from outside the tent. Again, the warrior could not have proven that that sound meant something was wrong--- he just knew. He knew they were running to him. Grimacing, he drew himself up from the bed he had been sitting on and rose to his full height to greet the visitor. The Jungle Tribe Agori that rushed through the flap stopped immediately. Her helmet was of the sort that did not cover the face, and so the warrior could see that her eyes were wide with shock. She had been expecting to meet a Toa--- the Spherus Magna natives had gotten used to those, similar to Glatorian as they were--- or another being of a naturally heroic appearance. She had not been expecting a nine-foot-tall, heavily armored enforcer with horns. Trinuma allowed the Agori a moment to take in the sight before he spoke. “Is something the matter?” She nodded repeatedly, still not taking her eyes off of his horns. “Another--- another attack. It’s coming through Sandray Canyon. The Toa--- they said I should come get you--- but if you don’t want to be bothered, I could go find---?” Of course. Another attack. Trinuma had suspected as much. It would be a Visorak, or a Nui-Jaga, or any number of other creatures from the Matoran Universe that the Glatorian were not familiar with and therefore not well able to fight. With the mixed Agori-Matoran society still in the early stages of its development, all of their cities and villages were vulnerable to random forays by the wildlife of both worlds into the civilized areas that they had not yet learned to avoid. That was as true for this settlement near the ruins of old Tajun as it was for anywhere else. Folding. Rupturing. Splitting. Nowhere is safe. A warrior never lets his guard down, never ignores a potential danger. The small group of Toa here had developed a regular schedule for determining which of their members would be responsible for dealing with each Rahi attack. “Pest control”, they called it. After all, a single Visorak was no challenge for an experienced Toa. The task was more of a chore than a real fight, and over time it had spread to include the other warriors of various races living here. Last month, a Steltian elite had frightened away a curious Stone Ape. Last week, a Toa of Lightning turned back a hungry Muaka. Today, apparently, was Trinuma’s turn. He held up his hand, cutting the Agori off. “No, it’s fine. I’ll take care of it.” She nodded again, slowly this time, and stepped aside as he made for the door. Right before he exited, Trinuma turned back, almost having forgotten to ask the most important question. “What is it this time? Another Visorak?” The Agori’s eyes, he now saw, were not simply wide with awe at his size. They were filled with fear. “No,” she whispered. “A Rahkshi.” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Of course it was a Rahkshi. Trinuma suspected it wasn’t a coincidence that he had been “randomly” picked for guard duty at the same time one of the most powerful non-sentient beings of the Matoran Universe threatened the village. Courageous as they were, Toa still would not relish the idea of facing off against one of the “sons of Makuta”. It made sense to choose a more skilled warrior like himself. The average Toa couldn’t tell a gray-armored Limited Invulnerability Rahkshi from its silver-hued Chain Lightning brethren. Such was not the case for a being who had spent hours on end in the once-grand libraries of Daxia. And he did appreciate the chance to sharpen his skills. Though Trinuma was more of a covert operative than the sort of bold fighter that Axonn or Tobduk was, Helryx demanded, wisely, that all of her agents maintain their combat skills in every arena. She was missing, for now, but a being of Helryx’s power did not stay hidden for long. She would soon be back, Trinuma was sure, with more missions for him and the other Order agents. Slashing. Exuding. Dancing. Combat can take many forms, both excessively orchestrated and mercilessly quick. The Rahkshi was indeed exiting Sandray Canyon, its current course putting it on a direct collision with New Tajun. Trinuma watched its approach from a distance, keeping himself carefully concealed behind an outcropping of rock. Where once this area had been just another stretch of the endless desert, now soft grass covered the outskirts of the village, and a few small trees provided plenty of shade--- in other words, plenty of hiding places. Lurking. Emerging. Striking. Even when you do not know of the enemy, the enemy may know of you. The Solis Magna sun had set just a few minutes ago, but even in the starlight he could easily see that the beast was black-armored, adorned with the same nightmarish features as all the different breeds of Rahkshi: a wickedly curved spine, slitted eyes, and a double-pronged staff. Black armor meant its power was Hunger. Trinuma smiled. This would be easy. A Vorahk had to be in physical contact with its victim in order to drain their strength using its Staff of Absorption. He would simply prevent the Rahkshi from getting that close. Two minutes later, it was well within firing range. The moment had come. Leaping out of his hiding place, the red-and-blue-armored warrior landed on one knee and bent over, aiming his two back-mounted Nynrah Ghost Blasters at the startled Rahkshi and firing off one of the missiles. When it hit, it would take over control of the Rahkshi’s entire mechanical body, leaving the Kraata inside helpless to resist. It had almost reached its target when the Rahkshi lifted its staff and aimed one end at the incoming missile. Waves of energy blasted out, slamming head-on into the projectile and diverting it nearly 90 degrees to the right, where it slammed harmlessly into an organic tree. The Rahkshi screeched in triumph, opening its black faceplate briefly to reveal its Kraata. Trinuma froze, suddenly horrified. The Kraata was bright orange, not the dark grey typical of a Vorahk. He looked around at the hands, the spine, the staff, realizing that he had been a massive fool--- he should have checked, should have been less foolish, because a foolish warrior is a dead warrior--- The hands and feet were gold, not black. The spines were curved, not rigidly segmented. The staff ended in large hooks, not in round claws. * No. Not that. Anything but that horrible, awful breed. The Rahkshi closed its faceplate and raised its staff again. Acting purely on instinct, Trinuma performed a backflip to dodge the second attack, narrowly avoiding being hit by the waves of--- --- Magnetism. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Botar buckled under the strain of Makuta Icarax’s magnetic attack. His massive limbs, which had borne many a prisoner, were twisted and mangled beyond repair. His infamously fearsome visage, which had frightened his captives out of any thoughts of resisting, was now a drooping mockery of the terror it had once inspired. Trinuma watched in horror, unable to break free of the stasis field the Makuta had trapped him in. He knew Icarax was taking his time. Once he had finished savoring Botar’s death, Trinuma would be next on the chopping block. Everything, the entire mission, was a disaster. Their cargo, a shipment of weapons, would never reach Brutaka’s team. He should have checked. He should have been less foolish, because a foolish warrior is a dead warrior. They had thought they were alone, but the enemy knew of them--- he was lurking, biding his time, and then he was emerging and striking. Combat with some Makuta would have been excessively orchestrated and drawn-out. Icarax was not like other Makuta. He slashed at both of them with his Rotating Shadow Blades, exuding the raw power that was the birthright of a Makuta, twirling around in battle like a dancer. They had let their guard down. They had ignored a potential danger, and now Botar’s chest was folding in on itself, was rupturing, was splitting down the middle---and then it was bending and breaking and Botar was crumpling. With the last of his strength, the great enforcer of the Order of Mata Nui hurled his axe-like weapon. It hit its mark, shattering Trinuma’s stasis field before Icarax had time to react. Unable to move his massive jaw in the patterns necessary to produce speech, Botar could only lift his eyes to meet Trinuma’s. As his friend died, Trinuma felt he knew what his last words would have been, had he been able to speak them. What is the law? The law is the will of Mata Nui. Trinuma gathered up the weapons and pushed his kinetic emitter devices to maximum thrust, flying as fast as possible away from the scene where Botar had given his life to further the mission of the Great Spirit’s will. ** ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shelter. Safety. Back behind the rock. Quickly. Go, go, move, you idiot, go! Trinuma could barely come to terms with the situation. Magnetism. Of all the possible types of Rahkshi, it had to be this specter of my past. Was it still coming? He chanced a glance up over the top of the rock, using his arm-mounted shield as protection--- then immediately lowered both his head and his arm as the third blast of magnetic power flew through the air where they had been seconds before. This was not a winnable situation. He simply was not capable of defeating an opponent wielding this power, not after Botar had fallen, had failed, had--- No, he reminded himself. Botar did not fail. He ensured that his death would mean something, that it would allow others to continue the fight. He died so that Miserix could be freed, so that the war could be won, so that the Great Spirit could be awakened, so that this world could be reformed. He died so that I could live. And I did not make it this far to be struck down by a mindless servant of his murderer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Rahkshi was just about to make an attempt to charge around the rock when the second Nynrah Ghost Blaster fired. Clearly, the prey couldn’t see very well from its hiding place; the missile went wild and missed the Rahkshi entirely, hitting the ground a few bio beyond where it stood. The Rahkshi glanced down at the impact site before returning its gaze to the prey’s hideout. The prey’s shield was again visible over the top of the rock. Wasting no time, the Rahkshi triggered its power and launched a beam straight at the shield. This time, the prey wasn’t able to lower it back down fast enough. The shield warped inward where the magnetic beam struck, finally cracking down the middle and breaking in half before it fell out of site. The Rahkshi didn’t recall seeing any other weapons carried by the prey, only its propulsion device. It was now defenseless. Letting out another screech of its Kraata, the Rahkshi darted around the left side of the rock, swinging its staff around to face--- The two halves of the broken shield resting atop an empty patch of grass, the prey nowhere in sight. A voice spoke from behind the Rahkshi. “No, I’m not a teleporter. But when you work with someone whose job is to arrest and transport prisoners… you learn a few things about distractions and the element of surprise.” The Rahkshi immediately turned back around to find the prey’s kinetic emitter right in front of its faceplate. The resulting blast obliterated the Kraata and the Rahkshi’s entire spine. Stepping across the now-useless suit of armor, Trinuma took in the sight of his ruined shield. Then he smiled beneath his mask. “I hope you’re happy, Botar. I’m going to have to replace that now.” *** Looking up towards the stars, not knowing why he continued to talk but feeling compelled to do so anyway, Trinuma added, “And… you have my thanks. For everything you did. We wouldn’t be here without you.” Above him, the Red Star twinkled in the night. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * The appearance of the Rahkshi of Magnetism is based on jimmybob83’s MOC collection Rahkshi: The 42. ** I always felt that Botar’s death was cheap. We were told about it through one sentence in a story about a completely different set of characters, we weren’t shown the actual fight, and he was immediately replaced by an identical character from his same species. This is my attempt to rectify that. *** This entire story started because I bought the 3 sets needed to build Trinuma and the Onua set had the wrong color shield. So I wanted to write a story where Trinuma breaks his shield. No, seriously. I did end up buying the right color, in the end, which is why he says he’s going to replace it.
  16. First off, some credit where credit is due. This MOC was inspired by NickonAquaMagna's crossover drawings between Bionicle and RWBY. In particular, you can find his Grimm Rahkshi design here. Secondly, Brickobotface built a Technic version of Crescent Rose. The thing is awesome, check it out here. Because of his MOC, I was prompted to create a proper villain to go up against the scythe. And voila, here's a Grimm Rahkshi. Now, on to the pictures! Action Pose (that for some reason Google Drive won't let me imbed in this post, grr) Front Side Back Kraata Screech Armed with Staff Enjoy, leave a comment or critique if you do! -Jaga
  17. Hello, I posted a topic for these several months ago but it has since died; so this is a re-post of this topic. 18. I have recently decided to start taking pictures of my bionicles in real life scenes. Since my last post (http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/23951-lewas-kanohi-akaku/#entry1107540) I have updated my collection of pictures. Here are some more... Lehvak receives a new Krana... 19. RAHKSHI: THE 42 A customized complete collection. Full Gallery (High Res): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=551007&n=0 Let's just say that this required a lot of spray paint, time, cutting, and hot gluing. And thank heavens for Bricklink. I always wanted to do this, but until recently I saw the issue of unique spines as being an insurmountable hurdle. Then I was inspired when I stumbled across an image of a MOC using the spine design that I appropriated for my Molecular Disruption model, and became inspired to take it to the next level. Stay tuned for equally cool and ambitious projects! EDIT: I thought anyone on this website would be clued in, but for those of you who are not: I did not pick these color schemes or superpowers. They were predetermined long, long ago, in order to describe why we had to buy a buttload of different Kraata. Check the Rahkshi page on any of the wikis. I'm very much aware some of the color schemes are poo but, I'm powerless to change things.
  20. Yeah i don't think anyone doesn't know about Corpus Rahkshi by now, it's pretty fun, Anyway here's one of my rahkshi, she's awful. Bonus Human Rose cuz i'm boring. (you think with how much i draw i'd make more art topics here but i guess bionicle is just harder to draw? huh)
  21. “They had woken in a barren part of the island. There was grass underneath them, albeit dried and yellowed. There was smoke in the distance, so they went forward. They didn't understand why, but the smoke meant something to them. After days of traveling with no rest, nor food, they reached the place of smoke, but there was nothing but ashes and ruins. This was where they were meant to go, now they were here. Now what?” The unnamed Rahkshi that is now conscious is another of the Ghosts of Nynrah’s ongoing security projects. After “obtaining” a next gen kraata, they performed numberless tests, purging any memory it may have had, and creating a void for obedience. They packed the “Nynrahk” away, hoping to keep it stored and ready for any future disasters. Unfortunately for it, and in consequence, the Nynrah, too many of the populace grew uncomfortable having Rahkshi as their personal enforcers. The project as a whole was scrapped, and the lone Nynrahk was cast aside, only barely escaping destruction because of the project lead’s intention to keep it for themselves. Before it could be relocated, it was left alone on the far side of the island in the hopes of finding a safe hiding place. But sadly, when Phantom on the Water was destroyed, the Nynrahk did not wake until the following morning, either due to physical obstruction or the unusual amount of fog that had developed. It is where it is supposed to be, but there is nothing left for it to do. Despite this, they soon came to encounter other Rahkshi in the ruined village, and learned of "Rahkshi". Soon they encountered Gaever, and upon meeting with her, decided to choose a name; Phantom -------- Yeah I just lifted my Corpus Rahkshi profile description, my brain isn't all in it right now. 24. Hey guys, I finally took the time to get some scans of the old flyers that I kept from back in the day. These were usually stacked in the Bionicle cardboard displays some toy shops had. I firstly wanted to share the ones I got my hands on, but I also ask you guys to share yours if you have any additional ones that I never saw They seem to be fairly rare nowadays, I haven't seen anyone else post anything about them Enjoy! 25. Hey! A friend of mine drew a Chain Lightning Rahkshi staff. I tought it was really cool, and simple enough to try to make a 3D model of it, so I did. I made this using Sketchup, it took me somewhere between 1,5 - 2 hours to make. Original scetch by: Katuko So what do you guys think? does it look like a Chain Lightning tool? Does it cool? Could anything be done better? Any feedback is appreciated feedback! ^^ MORE PICTURES HERE:
