  1. So, as a longtime fan of bionicle, I've had a deep desire to share the love with my friends who never experienced the story when they were younger. However, my friends don't always have the time or will to muddle through all the books, MNOG, and all the other bionicle media. My solution was to create a series of PowerPoint presentations that present the story of bionicle. The presentations are meant to be used in conjunction with the physical sets, and the whole layout of the storytelling is designed to work in a similar way to how Turaga Vakama uses the stones in the Amaja circle. Here's an example of how it works: Slide #1 describes the village of Ta-Koro. The characters of Turaga Vakama and Jaller are introduced. The presenter brings those sets forward into the center of the table as he describes the characters and their relationships. Slide #2 describes the village of Ga-Koro. The inhabitants of Ta-Koro are moved aside, and replaced by Turaga Nokama and Macku. Etc. It is still a work in progress, but I wanted to release what I've been working on to the community. I'm still working on adapting the slides to a wider audience, and I am completely ignorant of where I pulled many of the supplemental photos included in the slides from. Please let me know what you guys think, and please try these for yourself. Even retelling the story to friends who already know it can be a fun experience to remind us how truly epic these stories are. Note: I only have 2001 and a selection of other Character Highlights available as of now. This list will be expanded very soon. 2. While I didn't buy any of the sets when the theme initially came out (it was during my time where I fell out of LEGO for a little while, after BIONICLE was first cancelled), and while I didn't watch the TV show as it was first airing, I do remember marathoning it a couple of weeks before the first "finale", and from what I remember, I actually really enjoyed it! With the new movie coming out and BIONICLE's cancellation, I was thinking about maybe getting back into the series, and actually buying some sets this time. However, I haven't followed anything about it since the not-ending, so I don't know if I should pick it back up again. So, should I pick it up again? And if I were to start buying some of the sets, what would you recommend? EDIT: Phrasing
  3. I was a fan of Ninjago since its beginnings in the Lego Club Magazine and online games that teased the series back in late 2010. I got most of the sets that I could and I liked the sets' designs and the characters' designs too. I tried to follow the series as best as I could, but without cable television, I was never really able to watch the episodes released. My knowledge goes to the rise of the Golden Ninja, but that's it. Even that bit of knowledge is quite limited and I know little trivia of the series, be it characters, locations, items, or plotlines. I know of the sets up until the summer of 2013, as that is about where I lost major interest in the theme as a whole. I don't exactly have the time to sit down and watch the entire series online these days, and the Ninjago Wiki is much too unstable for me to read as much as I can. Basically, I want to know the story from 2013 to the present. I would like to know as much as I need to know to understand what is happening and why things are the way they are. I am very confused on the sets that Lego had produced and that is because of my confusion of the storyline. I understand that this topic will most likely end up having lots of spoilers and I appreciate that some people don't want to be spoiled on things that they want to see for themselves. I'm not that kind of person, but it would still be considerate of others' opinions to use the spoiler tag system. Will you please help me out and explain to me the story of Ninjago so I may get back into the line? Thank you.
  4. And we're back! Welcome, Bionicle fans, both new and old, to the Ultimate Bionicle Storyline Reading Order for Years 2001-2010. Now first, to clarify something; this is literally every piece of relevant Bionicle Lore you will ever find. Anything that shows up here is relevant, so if you’re just looking to get the core story, and are too lazy to actually read everything, this is not the place for you. The goal of this list is to literally create the most immersive and knowledge-filled experience possible, and if you follow it, you will officially be a Bionicle Storyline Expert. Right off the bat, there are two different lists here. The first, which I call the “Spoiler-Free Order” is a list that takes certain events out of chronological order to avoid spoilers. This list is ideal for new fans who haven’t read hardly any of the storyline. Those of you who know the story well may be looking at it and saying, “Wait a second, doesn’t that come way earlier in the story?” You’re probably right. For example, the short story Decadence, takes place at the very beginning of the story, however, it features major spoilers for people who haven’t yet read anything else. For this reason, I have intentionally taken certain items on the list and moved them to later parts in order to avoid spoiling plot details. There is minimal splitting in this version. The second list, which I will call the “Chronological Order,” places everything closest to the order in which they take place. In many cases, items on the list are chopped up because certain items are literally taking place at the same time, like MNOG and Tale of the Toa. This list is perfect for returning fans who already know the spoilers, but are looking to get a review of the series and want to see events in which they occur. Here is a key to help you determine what certain items are on the lists. C = Chronicles (Series 1) A = Adventures (Series 2) L = Legends (Series 3) B = Bara Magna Saga (Series 4) Games and Animations are Underlined Shorts, Serials, and Podcast Serials are Italicized Split Items are in Bold May I state, and this is very important. I did not mark these items because they are unimportant. Any experienced Bionicle fan will tell you that the Games, Animations, and Serials are absolutely crucial to understanding the Bionicle storyline entirely. If you leave these items out, you will be left very confused at many points. If you’re looking for a resource for all these items, you can find these books on amazon; each book is typically $4. Also, I am currently directing a project, known as the Bionicle: Audio-Narration-Project, that aims to create audiobooks of all the Bionicle books. You can find it here! For games, animations, shorts, and serials, I recommend using Biomediaproject (All these items are free on this website). Please read everything above this point before clicking on these! I promise, it's important! Now that I’ve got that out of the way, you may move on to the lists. If you are new to the Bionicle Storyline, choose the Spoiler-Free Order. If you are a returning fan who has read at least 95% of the items on this list, you can choose the Chronological Order. Spoiler-Free Order (New Fans!) Chronological Order (Fans who've already read the Series!)
  5. So I've just watched the episode 18 here: I'm going straigh to the point, I'd like to know your thoughts about it. My personal point of view is that this is just awful. Why? Well, there is a huge gap from what LEGO made with the franchise 14 years ago and what it is now. But I truly think this is exploiting. Not that they werent doing that since the start, but the storytelling quality here is definitely poor, and that dont just justify the target audience, 6-14 deserves better.

If you leave these items out, you will be left very confused at many points. If you’re looking for a resource for all these items, you can find these books on amazon; each book is typically $4. For games, animations, shorts, and serials, I recommend using Biomediaproject (All these items are free on this website). Also, I am currently directing a project, known as the Bionicle: Audio-Narration-Project, that aims to create audiobooks of all the books and eventually the shorts and serials. You can find it here!
  7. The Bionicle storyline is not sexist in my opinion and I'll tell you why. Before I continue, let's take note of some definitions: -------------- Male: of or denoting the sex that produces small, typically motile gametes, especially spermatozoa, with which a female may be fertilized or inseminated to produce offspring. Female: of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) that can be fertilized by male gametes. --------------- Notice the issue? In the Bionicle universe, the ability to create new Bionicle is limited to very few characters: - Mata-Nui who possesses (and is) the Mask of Life [Male] - Makuta when he creates Kraata, giving them part of his life "energy" [Male] - The Bahrag (Bohrok "Queens") who create the Krana [Females] Take note that none of these involves sexual reproduction, and those who reproduce are referred to as both male and female. In these instances, creating life is simply imbuing bio-mechanical creations with "will" or the ability to perform functions independently. No Bionicle is known to have any reproductive organs (the instance of creating life seems to be a "energy" transfer). As they do not have reproductive organs, referring to them as different sexes is an absurd proposition. There are only a few differences between the "male" & "female" characters: - Color (Blue) - Voice - Culture (Water cultures such as Ga-Koro) As the male "factions" (Fire, Earth, Stone, Ice, Air) all have color and cultural differences, this leads to the conclusion that what defines a "female Bionicle" is the voice being "feminine". It could be assumed that living in water and having specialization with holding breath has an effect on the "voice box" (or whatever creates a Bionicle's voice). Of course this could be disputed as the early Bionicle only communicated via machines noises. Meaning that this distinction has literally no meaning. So why does it exist? Primarily due to Lego's marketing campaign identifying young males as their target audience (an idea which was correct as this is the overwhelming group that bought Bionicle sets). So if you are going to claim Bionicle is "sexist" because of it's tailoring to a target audience, then you must apply this title to anything that does this (namely every business). In fact, going beyond tailoring to target audiences on the sex/gender, companies do this based on age, ethnicity, income level and nearly every other noticeable difference. This is by definition discrimination (in the original sense) Discrimination: recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another. Of course in the modern era, this word has taken on a new meaning: Discrimination (Common Cultural Usage): the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex. This is not Lego's intent. Lego is not trying alienate certain people, they are trying to maximize sales. Lego is a business, and as such is forced to compete with others for customers. This means doing what is both ethical and available to be done to capture target audiences for purchases. While I can sympathize with people wanting characters that better represent them, I think it is extreme to accuse a company that has brought you such a great series of such an action. It is also worth pointing out that referring to the Bionicle characters as "it" instead of pronouns kids are familiar with, makes their speech awkward. It may have been the case the Lego noticed this and decided to use common pronouns. They however would've quickly noticed that there were no females characters, so they made the Ga-Bionicle females specifically so that there are females present in the plot. Lego has taken note of their popularity of their products with female customers, and have changed their marketing practices to suit (they're not just making sets for males and females, but starting to make sets to appeal to both). The Bionicle series already has as part of its lore that the Ga-Matorans (Toa, Turaga, etc.) are female. Changing that now could cause some serious inconsistency in the established plot. Whether Lego does that, I cannot predict. It is important though to know that whether or not they keep this distinction, they use the terms incorrectly, as no physical male/female divide exist in the Bionicle lore. So is Bionicle sexist? In my opinion, No. Thank You For Reading P.S. Yes, I noticed I accidentally wrote "Seixst" instead of "Sexist"
  8. "I am the mighty Tuma!" I think Tuma got a bit of a bad wrap in the TLR (as did all of the Skrall, really). His character was reduced to a mindless, power-hungry brute who basically just liked smashing things. If you look into the serials and comics and such, he had a much deeper character. He was strategic, planned things out and knew how to bide his time, until the advance of the Baterra forced him into action. I think he had pretty much the worst luck of most Bara Magna characters. Look at it this way: he was the last of the Leader-Class Skall. He had a massive responsibility to his people, to protect them and ensure they survived the Baterra. Everything was perfectly planned out. He had a traitor working with him, the Bone Hunters following his orders, and his army was undoubtedly the strongest and most experienced on the planet at the time. So how the heck did he lose? A random newcomer from another world entirely who barely knew how to fight shows up out of nowhere and threw a few lucky hits at a wound Tuma recently got on his back from an encounter with the Baterra. Mata Nui got lucky, and Tuma's life got ruined. Now he's stuck wandering the deserts with no support from his former tribe. I can't help but feel sorry for the poor guy. He had it all, and now he has nothing. anyone else agree with me?
  9. The first time that I truly discovered BZPower, albeit as a lurker, was in early 2010. I had heard the site mentioned, and visited its front page, as early as 2008, but I didn't visit the forums or begin to really understand how great the community here was until early 2010, because that's when Bionicle: Next Generation was active. I first saw mention of their project in the old hot topics list on the front page, and after I visited their topics, I was blown away by the dedication, at least initially, of the BNG team to their fan continuation. I hadn't ever heard or seen of a person or group putting so much effort into fan made media, within any fandom, and before I visited BNG's topics here, and subsequently their wiki during those months, it hadn't even occurred to me that fan made films, or games, or comics could be possible on such a massive level. Though BNG quieted down very quickly, and ultimately didn't produce their adaptation of Dark Mirror or any other films, save a few teaser trailers and one 2D short, they've inspired me now to consider my own fan-made Bionicle film, which I am now writing. Without them, I wouldn't even have considered for an instant that a fan-made film could be possible. Is their any spark of activity left in the BNG community, or have they entirely disbanded and ceased to work on any films, short or feature length? Would anybody be interested in restarting BNG with their original goal?
  10. SolisMagna.com BZPower Topic (No, it's not official.) This topic is meant for discussion and Q&A about the new BIONICLE fan site, SolisMagna.com. The idea of SolisMagna.com developed over time. It originated as a project to recreate the 2001-2003 BIONICLE sites with modern web development techniques (which I still plan on doing actually), but then I thought, "Hey, why not do an entire reboot of the early years and sell revamped sets alongside it?" So I started planning for that, but then I realized that what people really wanted was a continuation of BIONICLE rather than a reboot. Thus SolisMagna.com truly began. I knew that this was the way to regenerate interest and activity throughout the community, and I knew I couldn't accomplish it alone. I looked to BZPower to advertise the cause and recruit the best staff members available. The response was great and I received tons of applications. We currently have 21 staff members. This project isn't about bringing back BIONICLE, but it is about keeping it's memory and community interest in it alive. We are not looking to make personal wealth from this project. The staff members will be paid when we begin to sell sets, but the actual profit made will go towards improving the sets and the entire project. 11. Okay, BIONICLEstory.com was deleted, as we are all aware. But it was deleted before I ever found anything relating to the Toa Mahri...the last I read of them they were being mind controlled by some skakdi (I think). They laid down their weapons and surrendered...What became of them? Or Lewa, for that matter? Someone please provide answers
  12. If you check Bioniclestory.com often you can see that they haven't added a new chapter to the serial in a while. I heard that it was because Greg had to take care of his family so he temporarily stopped. But the question is will he begin again? Just recently bionicle.com and bioniclestory.com were taken down, hence I am losing hope that more will be made. If Greg can at least finish the serials he is working on that will be great... Some info has already been leaked onto BZPower. Such as it was found out that the great being mentioned in The Yesterday Quest was Veilika (the brown matoran from 2006). This proves that greg is still comming up with ideas, but will they be officially released, or will they have to be leaked? Post your thoughts and opinions below...
  13. In the Bionicle Encyclopedia, it says that Nuju decides to only speak the language of rahi (I think). This is further confirmed in MNOLG when he requires Matoro to translate for him. But... In Bionicle the Game (YES, I KNOW THAT GAME IS NOT AT ALL CANON) Nuju speaks to Kopaka. More (canon) and importantly, in comic #1 Nuju speaks directly to him, without any translator. Thoughts?
  14. I figured this should return, so join me for... The North-Western Isles Continuity presents... Many years ago, months before the beginning of One Nation Under The Great Spirit...Eljay, a simple Matoran, wanted to peacefully live his life. He never thought about why it was peaceful, or that it was. He just lived. Slowly but surely, this would change. He would embark on a mission to bring back the peace that so many had longed for. He'd have to pay a huge price, and ask himself if it's really worth it... Let the adventure begin, in that case... Chapter 1: Remembering the beginning Comic 1: Sweet beginningComic 2: Unsettling offense Comic 3: Disgruntled costumer Comic 4: Dark dreams Comic 5: Snuffed flame Chapter 2: Beginning the quest Comic 6: Lucky find Comic 7: Have a nice fall Comic 8: Hard landing Comic 9: Destiny's choice Comic 10: Turning point Chapter 3: Becoming a Toa Comic 11: Fighting lesson Comic 12: Long ago recap Comic 13: Collected Comic 14: Show and tell Comic 15: Practice Chapter 4: Home sick Credits: InnerRayg for the sprites! How often these will be updated is unknown, but there are more comics ready in case. I shall be working hard on these, but I need your guys help to keep it a float! I hope you enjoy these, and make this something to remember.
  15. But honestly, just telling everyone that Dume was just Teridax in disguise and he wanted the toa captured because MAKUTA ARE EVIL AND THEY DO JUNK LIKE THAT was kind of an awful move. I subscribe to the Janus headcanon as he described it at Cascade, where it's stated that Dume was a corrupt leader who could no longer protect his people through his senility. To that end, I wrote a story.
  16. So, I was browsing my Karda Nui comics, and I noticed something interesting. On the back of the final 2008 comic, there is a teaser for 2009. It has a desert image with a gigantic robot piece and a smaller being looking at it. The smaller being is Matoro Inika, or at least a perfect lookalike. What the heck? Was there any plans for Matoro beyond his sacrifice, or was this random chance?
  17. Vartemp

    Krakua

I'm surprised Greg's held off the secret about how he appeared to Vakama in his vision for so long. I wonder if Krakua somehow found technology on Spherus Magna, that the Great Beings created, and figured out how to use it, and appeared in Vakama's vision to tell him what will happen in the future.
  18. I got both of them! 8D. Now could you get them? I want GN 10 soooo much now.
  19. Vartemp

    Varian

Who thinks it's a good idea to give Varian a Mask of Possibilites?
  20. WOOT! I created a blog! Anyway, down to the subject. Odd. I thought Karzahni would live. He seemed like a being of extreme power...
  21. Well, in light of the recent announcement, I thought it would be appropriate to write an entry about the End of Bionicle. Be careful, I may wax poetic here... As a fan who was there at the beginning, who watched the dawn of Bionicle and reveled in its mythic light, I can say that I am fully satisfied as it comes to an end. Bionicle has had a long and excellent run, and its tenth anniversary is a fitting time to bring things to a close. I look back over the entirety of the universe that Lego has created for us, and I can say that all the little things that irked me in the past cannot shine as bright as the things that enthralled and inspired me. There was a time when I spent a great deal of effort and energy raging against the great problems and failures and mistakes that I perceived in the storyline of Bionicle. It bugged me. I wrote books of mental criticism in my head about how the storyline should have happened, how it could have been done better, how the magic of the first years of Bionicle could have been preserved! But no! The story team was too callous--they didn't listen. It was all ruined, and I had to just move on. But as time passed, I realized that all these things that had built up ultimately did not matter. They didn't take away from the underlying themes that drew me to Bionicle and kept me there. In fact, they were mostly all superficial, and even if they were a part of the "official" storyline, they didn't have to be a part of my imagination. That is what has kept me an avid fan for nearly a decade--the fact that, as a fan, I don't have to follow the canon absolutely. This is a pretty simplistic idea, that one can simply ignore those elements of the storyline that one dislikes. But the thing that truly brought this home to me was the realization that the "foundations" of Bionicle that I love were not touched by these "bad things", even if I don't ignore them. The themes are still there. The same themes of Good vs. Evil, the same cosmic struggle of powers, the same inner struggle within an individual: to give in to the flawed evil within us all, or to follow Morality. And, most importantly: the struggle to regain the good that was lost through deception. The Toa strive to awaken their Great Spirit and return their microscosmic universe to its original, if flawed, state and purpose, while in the macrocosmic universe Mata Nui must ultimately seek to repair Paradise: Spherus Magna. What is the reason for pointing out these things? Perhaps simply to illustrate why I am not one of those fans who will inevitably say "Oh, I'm glad it's finally over." Those who have been jaded by all the "problems" that they perceive. Honestly, I've seen enough of that tripe written here, and it annoys me to no end. As if the people who say such things are so high up on their pedestals as to look down on the thing that they enjoyed so immensely in the past and say "Good riddance!" Really? Is that really what you want? How pathetic. What is your motivation? I don't deny that there are certainly missed opportunities galore in the Bionicle storyline, but these pale in comparison to the bigger picture. But enough of that. The real reason for this entry was to look back over the entire body of the Bionicle storyline and remember all the aspects that attracted me at the beginning, and to marvel at how I will remember the good far longer than any of the bad. It is remarkable that the truly mythological elements--that mysterious atmosphere that drew me and so many other fans to the line in the first place--is ultimately preserved if one goes over the storyline in summary form, perhaps because that feeling was never actually gone. I suppose it's also fitting, then that this announcement (and thus, this entry) comes at Thanksgiving. Thanks, Bionicle. Thanks for a decade of memories. I'm glad I'm still here, here at the end of all things... ...Sorry, I just couldn't resist. JRRT
  22. So far: two thumbs way way up. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «First off, I want to say Thank You Greg, for skipping the whole Teridax-is-his-real-name thing. Makuta is Makuta and he is The Makuta. That's how he started out, and by Mata Nui that's how he's going to end! Secondly, and more importantly, I loved the "You have nothing, Makuta. You are nothing." aside. I as an ancient fan highly appreciate the nod to MNOG. Also: I think that, for the first time since D'anda left as the comic artist, I find myself really enjoying the art again. Mhan has succeeded in getting the giant-robot sense of scale right. It's fitting, then, that Bionicle began with great comic art and will end with great comic art. Also again: does anyone else think that Mhan took a cue from the Mask of Elemental Energy when drawing the prototype synthezoid's face? It would make things all that much sweeter. Oh yeah, and so far the events match up pretty well with the ideas in the previous blog entry. Who would've guessed? JRRT
  23. All tests are taken. All papers are presented. All finals are over. Finally. Long sigh of contentment. =ll= Today I've been looking through some topics related to how Teridax (henceforth referred to only as Makuta or The Makuta, since that's really what he is now) will be defeated in 2010, reading some of the different speculations and ideas that members have. While I don't usually spend much time reading speculation anymore (it takes a lot of time...which I don't have), this has really caught my attention... So, here's my ideal imagining of how The Makuta will ultimately be overthrown and the Toa and Mata Nui will be victorious (in the most epic way possible): -Makuta arrives on Bara Magna. The Toa Nuva and Takanuva escape from the "Makutaverse" (probably with help from the Ignika) and Tahu is reverted to his original Mata form (reason for this: the "golden armor" needs a Toa in the "un-armored" form of the Mata). -By this time, Mata Nui has been successful in retrieving the ancient power source of the Great Beings and has been able to use it to repair the gigantic prototype synthezoid. -The Toa fight the remnants of the Skrall on Bara Magna while searching for the pieces of the golden armor. They find it and assemble it. Tahu dons the armor. *unknown what the purpose of the armor is, skipping ahead!* -The Toa enter the prototype synthezoid as Mata Nui rises from the desert to face the towering Makuta. -Epic "Battle of the Monolithic Giants" ensues. Complete with epic orchestral/vocal score. The portrayal of this battle ranges from physical action (shattering mountains, etc.) to mental action, as the minds of Mata Nui and Makuta battle across the robotic systems of their respective bodies. -Mata Nui's body is severely damaged, he departs from Bara Magna into space. Makuta pursues him into the dark void. -Makuta eventually catches up with Mata Nui somewhere in interplanetary space. Mata Nui and the Toa have constructed a plan. *unknown what plan is, skipping ahead!* -Result of the plan is that, after an incredibly intense struggle, Makuta and Mata Nui switch places. The Toa Mata find themselves faced with their old Enemy in the mind of the prototype. Makuta manifests himself as the Void once more, and the Mata fight him in a reflection of their first battle in Mangaia. Makuta is too strong. They are almost defeated! -Takanuva, the Toa of Light, finally exerts his power in the conflict. Makuta cannot withstand the Element of Light. He retreats into the shadows, taunting the seven Toa... -Suddenly Makuta realizes the damage that has been done to his body in the battle with Mata Nui. The prototype body is nearly falling apart. Makuta feels the sting of fear as it dawns upon him that he is trapped, imprisoned. He is too weak to strike back at the Toa now. Mata Nui, now in his rightful body, speaks across the void between the two synthezoids, telling Makuta to look "outward". -Makuta looks into space and finds himself floating beside a Red Star, but it is not the Red Star of the Great Beings. This time it is a real one, and it is something that his present body cannot withstand. Makuta says that he will take the Toa with him to the grave. Mata Nui says that he will not. -The Toa Mata and Takanuva are transported from the mind of Makuta, along with the Ignika (maybe using the same mechanisms that the Mask of Life used to transport the Mahri to Metru Nui?). Makuta is left alone, finally the Great Spirit of his own universe--a broken and lifeless shell. He screams rage and terror into the minds of the Toa and every living being within the universe of the Matoran as Mata Nui hurls him headlong across the blazing Void. -Makuta's last words as he hurtles into the inferno of the Star are "You cannot destroy me, for I am Nothing." He laughs, and then silence. I have to write this. Bye. JRRT
  24. My reaction to the end of the first true arc of the Bionicle storyline and the beginning of the next: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «When I first found out about the ultimate resolution of the Toa Nuva's quest, I actually felt quite let down. It happened to be on another website where there were no Bionicle Legends#11 spoiler warnings, and I didn't necessarily intend to spoil it for myself before reading the book. But it happened anyways. I first felt kind of shocked that that was where it ended. I remember thinking "so after all this waiting, this is how it ends up?! I waited seven years to see Mata Nui wake up and Makuta finally destroyed in some epic manner, and this is what we get?!" Yes, I was rather ticked off. I also remember thinking before I had seen the spoilers that even if Mata Nui was awakened, I probably wouldn't stay with Bionicle on into 2009 because I would get what I had been waiting for since I was ten. I mean, the Great Spirit was originally going to wake up at the end of '01, then it was postponed to the end of '03 (Vakama even says it outright in MoL, no less!), and then we forgot about it ever happening while we took a detour into the past to give the story some history (no, I'm not complaining about '04-'05, Metru Nui was awesome), and then we get back to present time and Mata Nui needs to be saved from death--not awakened. So finally at last after all that time we get to 2008 and back to the Toa Nuva and at last the most climactic moment of the entire story is supposed to arrive...!!...but no. It doesn't happen, and it turns out that it was all for nothing. Biggest initial let-down so far (initial, these are my initial reactions--it turns around later). However, after hearing now about the next arc of the storyline in Bara Magna and having all these little clues about "the shattering" dropped, I began to change my opinion. After all, if Mata Nui had simply been awakened, and Makuta, in the final stages of his plan, was thwarted and utterly destroyed, that would really be the end of Bionicle. Or at least, I can't really see how there could be anything else after the happy ending, unless we waited for five years and "re-started" in the future with a completely new plot. So now I actually start to see the wisdom in what happened and the genius of the story team in engineering it this way. We're back to a single Makuta--The Makuta. The Great Spirit is hurtling through the cosmos on his way to a new, shattered world and some ultimate renewing of the universe, vowing to one day return to his Universe and overthrow his usurper. It's an epic new plot rising out of the ashes of the previous. I've been a Bionicle fan since the first, tiny promotional image of Onua in one of the 2000 Lego Magazines, and I've survived till now, never expecting to remain a fan past the awakening (supposed awakening) of Mata Nui, and now I find that I've been unwittingly hooked into 2009 and the "greater universe" from which Mata Nui himself originated. So what began as extreme disappointment and frustration has now been miraculously reversed into renewed interest and anticipation of what is to come. Well done, Lego, I applaud you. JRRT
