    Oh No Change on BZP??

So BZP got a revamp, and only went down for a few month. Now it's back and I have to get used to all the changes!! I think the blogs got the worst of it, TBH. Although this does seem more in line with other personal blogs I've seen elsewhere on the internet, so it's probably a modern template that's cool for everybody but those of us (like me) who are so used to the old BZP / Invasion format. This new one looks like it could incorporate pictures better, so that's something I'll have to start thinking more about. So far my photo uploads have just been scenic mountain shots from various trips... but I'm boring and don't do as many of them anymore, so I'm going to need to diversify. The lost of the custom sidebars is also disappointing, but I also noticed that all the various blog tags and groupings have been trashed, so now I have 10+ years of unmarked entries, and at least a few of them were useful and will take a while to find by just scrolling thru. Anyway, as for what I did this summer... go to work and get by. I did manage to make some MOCs and attended BrickFair for the first time in three years. It was a lot of fun to hang out with folks again, although I felt a bit mellow over the weekend and didn't have a big rush rush rush to do everything. (I didn't participate in any of the official games because I was too lazy). Also didn't win anything, but my Mt. St. Helens lenticular mosaic did get nominated, which was awesome. (And also a little odd because it's a repeat MOC, but then again I didn't exactly disqualify it when I entered it in.) Outside of work and some Lego, I've played a lot of Pokémon Go and reached level 40, finally. But gosh darn it, there are still more to collect, so I'm still playing. I'm also playing the Harry Potter Wizards Unite game, but in general it is less compelling than PokeGo. The previous game I was all in on, Ingress, did an upgrade last year that totally broke the gameplay mechanics and I still haven't been able to get back into it. Which is a shame; it was fun to travel to different places and use the game as kind of a tour guide to various local art and scenic spots. I've also looked into working more on my stories, or in particular reposting them. I finally signed onto Fanfiction.net and started posting a few of my Bionicle stories. (Because, honestly BZP is not the hotspot for library posts anymore, sorry.) Not that this site is any better... I haven't looked around really hard, but the quality of the average story is pretty bad. (I mean, we all had to start somewhere, so fair is fair.) But I don't know if there's a readership for lengthy Bionicle novels. But I did start reposting one of my old popular stories, Time Disruption. (I checked on the Wayback machine and I started that story on 10-11-2003. It's also crazy that it was popular enough that I was able to find a Wayback entry for it; the Epic forum was so crowded back in the day and Wayback is spotty about archiving forums.) Anyway, after doing a editing run through, I'm still impressed with my teenage writing, even if the language is a bit more basic than what I write now... and I desperately needed an editor. Man, no wonder half the comments were about spelling and grammar errors, they were bloody everywhere! But I've started reposting that story (all 63+ chapters) and it's been getting a lot of views... so I guess people still like it. (It also doesn't focus on crazy custom characters, so I'm sure that helps.) I've also had readership of my Hero Factory story when I didn't think there was any audience for that! I've written it so far in batches for NaNoWriMo, so maybe I'll work on the final part for it this year. I've also been playing in Voltex's BZPGOT RPG on Discord for months and months now... and the activity there certainly helped when BZP went down. It's fun to play, but the Discord format is a bit easier than the forums, and I managed to get into the lore with only a few weeks (or months) of what-am-I-doing-ness. I can now see why the RPGers are the ones keeping this community alive. I've gotten a few cool Lego sets over the summer, but kind of slacked off in doing reviews and such. Last spring, my camera's charging cord vanished, making said camera unusable, so I haven't had anything to take decent review pictures with besides my phone, which is only so-so. Chocolate Frogs and I were planning to pull off a few more livestreams, but then Youtube changed the system and we haven't been able to figure out an Encoder that works, so that's been put on hold for a while. I have a backlog of sets I want to build, but haven't gotten any truly big ones... except for the Bricklink models, which I ordered back in March and received in August. The Western Saloon is an awesome design, although the instructions make it a bit difficult to distinguish between the various shades of brown. I would like to do some more reviews, either official or just generic blog posts, but I'm a combination of lazy / exhausted most of the time. Maybe I'll put together some just to test the picture capabilities of the new blog system. Anyway, here's to another long and rambling post. Honestly don't know if anybody will bother reading (did they ever?) But the post count now including blogs really upped my count; I went from 6K to 8K, so I'm guessing it was the blogs. I know in the old forums when there was a list of the most comment / most viewed / most posted of the blogs, I was in the top three (or top one, I forget) of the blog with the most entries. Not views or comments, but entries. So I like typing a lot and posting stuff nobody reads. I hope to continue hiding subliminal messages in walls of text as long as BZPower lets me! Thanks for reading, take care y'all! (yay at least the emotes stayed the same, I would be sad without my signoff)
  2. I found a very interesting form of topic on a foreign forum and I was inspired to make a topic in the same spirit as that one. In this topic, you can just speak your mind, as long as what you say is appropriate and follows BZPower's rules. Topics will jump and casual conversation will arise. I don't know if this kind of thing is allowed here anyway, but we'll see how long it lasts until it gets shutdown or is forgotten. So I ask you now: What are you thinking about?
  3. When I learned that this trailer was being revealed last night, I was a little surprised. I thought that we wouldn't see anything on Black Panther until at least after Spider-Man: Homecoming was out in theaters. But I'm not complaining, because this trailer is great. I like how it continues to trend in recent Marvel movies of showing just enough to get you interested in the movie but not give the majority of the plot away. (Though Spider-Man is an exception to that. ) It's a trend that I hope Marvel continues to use. Overall, this looks really good. I'm interested in seeing it when it comes out in February. What do you all think of the teaser trailer?
  4. It's been awhile since I've done one of these. Anyways, I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. A lot of the jokes were really funny, the action scenes were great, and the movie itself just looked beautiful. It also had a really good soundtrack. It's not as memorable as the first movie's, but it's still good. Everyone in the movie gets a moment to shine, from Peter to Rocket to Baby Groot. Yondu is probably the one who gets the most character development, though everyone from the first movie who is in this one gets more development. Even the villain is developed well. At least better than some villains from previous Marvel movies. But even though I did liked this movie, I still prefer the first one a little bit more. I felt like this movie was a little too silly at times. Don't get me wrong, it does have some serious scenes, and they are really good. But I do think that they did go a little overboard with the jokes. Also, the villain does one thing that I thought was kind of baffling. I'm putting it in spoiler tags, so if you haven't seen the movie and don't want to be spoiled, don't open it: Overall, this is definitely another hit for Marvel. Anyone who enjoyed the first Guardians will probably really like this one too. It has it's flaws, but it's still a good film to kick off the summer season of movies. So if you haven't already, go check it out. You will be entertained. Have you seen GotG Vol. 2? And if so, what did you think of it?
  5. I know this might be a few days late, but sometimes life just makes you delay stuff. Anyways, a lot of info was revealed about the Nintendo Switch last week, and I liked a lot of what I heard. Many of its games look really interesting to me. Especially The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wind and Super Mario Odyssey. For the Zelda series, I've only played A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds, and half of Majora's Mask for the 3DS. So it would be cool to play another Zelda game, and BotW could be a good game to try. As for Odyssey, it just looks like it will be fun. Plus, I want to see why Bowser is wearing a suit. I was also excited to hear that Minecraft and Skyrim were going to be brought to the system as well. I haven't play either of these games, and this could give me a chance to do so. It does kind of stink that we'll have to play to go online with the system. But if it means that the servers will be better, then I can live with it. The other nitpick I have with it is that there wasn't a Metroid game announced in the line up of games. I know it was a long shot, but I still wanted to another Metroid game to come out. Hopefully we'll see one soon. Overall, I'm excited for the Switch. I'm definitely thinking about getting it, though I know I won't be on launch day. The earliest I might get one is in the summer if possible, because I don't want to deal with crazy people trying to get it as well. P.S. And if I do get it, I will get the one with the grey controller. I'm not a fan of the red and blue controller. It just doesn't look as good to me. What do you all think of the Nintendo Switch? And are you going to get one?
  6. Man, a LOT of trailers have come out in the past week. Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Transformers: The Last Knight, Fast and Furious 8, etc. And along with those came this trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes. I've enjoyed the first two movies of this rebooted franchise. In fact, I think Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the movie before this one, is one of the best sequels ever made in a trilogy. The ending of that movie left me excited for WftPotA, and this trailer only fuels that excitement. I think that the tone and music in this are great. I'm also really excited to see Woody Harrelson in this, as I think he's a good actor and will make an interesting opponent for Caesar and his fellow Apes. Overall, this movie is high on my list of movies that I want to see in 2017. I just hope it lives up to its predecessors. What do you all think of this trailer? Will you be seeing War for the Planet of the Apes?
  7. Two Notes. One, I know this trailer came out a few days ago. I just didn't feel like making a blog post about it until now. And two, the trailer has a word in it that is not BZP appropriate, so I can't post it here. But you can find it on Youtube easy enough. As for what I thought of the new trailer, I liked it. As with the first 'teaser trailer,' this one doesn't really give us an indication on what the story is going to be about. It's either characters talking among themselves and just clips of actions scenes. I don't have a problem with this at all, since the story isn't spoiled in this as trailers for other movies have done. I do have two concerns though. One is Drax's character. It definitely seems like he's going to have a bigger comedic role in this one than in the first movie. I'm okay with him being a little more comical, but I just hope it isn't overdone. I hope he still has some dramatic material to work with in this films's story. My other concern is Baby Groot. I watched someone on Youtube talk about both trailers for this movie, and he brought up that Marvel could keep Groot in his baby form in it to help sell Baby Groot toys. I can see people wanting to own such a toy, so I could see Marvel doing something like this. But as long as the character is used right in the story, I don't have a problem with him being a baby for the majority or all of the film. I just hope he's grown up by the time he shows up in another Marvel movie after this one. But even with those concerns, I'm still really excited to see this movie. I really enjoyed the first Guardians of the Galaxy, and I hope that this one will be just as enjoyable. What did you guys think of this new trailer?
  8. I've spoken on here before about being interested in seeing the live action Beauty and The Beast movie when it comes out next year. I liked the original Disney movie, and it is considered one of Disney's best movies ever. (At least, I think I read that somewhere) And that leaves me curious to see how they would handle a live action version of said movie. Today, the first trailer for the film was released, and I can say that my interest is still there for the film. I really like the music that plays with it. It sounds beautiful, just like it did in the original. The inside of the Beast's castle, at least what is shown here, looks really cool too. As for the Beast himself, he does look a lot like his cartoon counterpart. He doesn't look as 'beastly' as the original IMO though, particularly with his face. It kind of look too 'human-ish,' for lack of a better word. But it's not a deal breaker for me, as he still looks cool enough. And besides, his roar is awesome. Then there's Belle. I think Emma Watson will do a good job portraying the character, and I think this trailer backs that up. Of course, one can't fully judge an actor and actress's performance in a movie without seeing the whole thing. But I'm optimistic that she will be good in this film. We also get to see some of the other characters in the film. Lumiere and Cogsworth both look good. Mrs. Potts, however, looks sort of terrifying IMO. I'm sorry, but she really does to me. I kind of wish she looked as she did in the original. But who knows? Maybe this version of her will grow on me as the film's release date get closer. Overall, I'm still looking forward to seeing this. I may not be as hyped for it as some other films coming out next year, like Logan or Guardians of the Galaxy 2. But I probably will see it when I get the chance to when it comes out next year. What do you guys think of this trailer?
  9. It was strange. .... Sorry, bad joke. Anyways, Marvel's latest movie came out over the weekend. It's definitely a departure from anything that's been done in the MCU before, especially when it comes to its amazing special effects. Here are my thoughts on this movie. Spoilers for the film are contained in this, so don't read this if you haven't seen it yet. 1. Marvel continues with their success at casting the right actors or actresses for their movies. Benedict Cumberbatch does a great job with the role of the title character, Stephen Strange. He kind of reminds me of Dr. House from the TV show House from a few years back, especially at towards the beginning of the film. But he does have more heart in him than House, and he does become a more caring person towards the end of the film. (Then again, that is to be expected from the starring character in a Marvel Movie. ) My point is that he's great here, and I look forward to seeing him in future Marvel movies. 2. There has been some controversy with the casting of the Ancient One in this film in the past. I won't get into it here though. All I will say is that the actress that played her, Tilda Swinton, was great in this movie too IMO. I really enjoyed her performance. It's a shame that she was killed off by the villain, but who knows. Maybe she'll show up somehow in a future movie. 3. Mordo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, was another interesting character in the film. I liked that he stayed on the same side as Strange for most of the film, as it could've been easy to just rush him into being a villain. Even though we do see him start down that path in one of the film's after credit scenes, I do like that the film's story showed how he came to the conclusion to go down said path. I'm very interested in see what is done with him in upcoming Marvel movies. 4. The rest of the cast does a good job too. Wong, played by Benedict Wong, is a neat character. From what I understand, he's given a bigger role in this story than what he has in the comics, which I think is pretty cool. Christine Palmer, played by Rachel McAdams, is also somewhat of an interesting character, though she doesn't have the biggest role in the story. But she does good with what she's given to do. As for the villain Kaecilius, played by Mads Mikkelson, I would say that the Marvel curse of 'every villain besides Loki feeling underdeveloped in their movies' affects him as well. Don't get me wrong, the movie does a good job explaining why he does what he does. And I personally think that he is one of the cooler villains to be seen in a Marvel film. I just feel that he could've been developed a little more. 5. Speaking of villains, Kaecilius isn't the only one in the movie. One of Doctor Strange's greatest enemies, Dormammu, also makes an appearance. It's mainly just a cameo, but he shows up. The way Strange defeats him is actually kind of clever, though to me it also felt a little underwhelming. Still, it's cool to see him here, and it's probably won't be the last time either. (Fun fact: Benedict Cumberbatch actually did the motion capture for Dormammu's face. So it was like he was facing off against himself. ) 6. The film's story has some of the familiar beats of some of the other Marvel origin films, but it also has a lot of things to help separate it from them as well. And one of those things was magic. Like the first Thor film did with introducing the concepts of beings living in other realms aside from earth, Doctor Strange is tasked with introducing the magical side of the Marvel Universe, along with the multiverse, to the MCU. And for the most part, I think it succeeds with that goal. It gives us just enough to keep the viewer entertained without going overboard with it and becoming too confusing for the casual fan. That's an accomplishment IMO. That's being said, I do think other Marvel movies had stronger stories than Strange. I still liked the story, and it's definitely not the worst movie in the MCU lineup. But I will admit that I enjoyed some of the other films more than this one. 7. The special effects in this movie are great. Really, really great. They're definitely one of the selling points of this film. I've seen people compare the city folding in on itself scenes here from those seen in Inception. While I do see the comparison between them, I will point out that Inception had it's city only fold on top of itself. In Strange, the concept was expanded upon to a greater extent, like having buildings twist around and sink into holes. It's really cool to see. Another standout scene is when the Ancient One shows Stephen the multiverse for the first time. What is shown there is very interesting, to say the least. 8. While this is a mostly standalone film in the MCU, there are a few scenes in it that connect it to the other films. For example, there is a shot over the city of New York that shows the Avengers Tower. In another scene, Stephen is talking to a fellow doctor over the phone about someone to broke their spine in an experimental exo-suit, which I believe is the guy who got his upper body turned 180 from his lower body in a suit made by Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2. Also, while the Ancient One is showing Stephen the multiverse, I believe that he passes briefly through the Quantum Realm first shown in Ant Man. That last one is just a personal theory of mine, but I'm sure that's a realm Stephen is shown. But the biggest connection this film has to the MCU is in the first mid-credit scene, where Stephen is talking to Thor about is brother Loki and about finding Odin in New York. I personally think this is a scene from the next Thor movie that they added to this film, similar to how a scene from Captain America: Civil War was added as an end credit scene to Ant Man. There have been rumors about Doctor Strange making a cameo in Thor: Ragnarok. So if this is a scene from that movie, it looks like that rumor is now confirmed. So overall, I think Doctor Strange is a really entertaining movie. It's not the best film that they've made, but it does open the door to a new side of the MCU that I can't wait to see explored in upcoming movies. I recommend checking it out, just to see how strange it is. Sorry, another bad joke. Will you see Doctor Strange? And if you have, what did you think of it?
  10. Note: Slight spoilers for the latest trailer are in this entry. Don't read if you don't want to be spoiled. Don't you hate it when you want to blog about info revealed on something you like but can't until a few days later because life keeps you busy? I do. But regardless, a new Star Wars: Rogue One trailer was released last week. Since the movie is coming out in last than two months, it could be assumed that this will be the final trailer for the film. And aside from revealing that Jyn's father plays a part in the building of the Death Star and what 'Rogue One' means in the film's story, we don't really get any new info on the film's plot. And that delights me a lot. I think it's great that one could watch all three trailers for this movie and still not have a concrete idea on what is going to happen in it. I mean, we do know that they get the plans in the end, as the Rebels have them in A New Hope. But how they got them isn't really shown in these trailers. The Force Awakens trailers did the same thing with that movie's story last year, and I hope this trend continues for the upcoming Star Wars movies. As for what is shown in the trailer, I will say that it all looks really cool. You can tell from the tone of it that this movie will have a darker, serious story to it. The blend of CGI and practical effects looks great here as well, just as it did in The Force Awakens. And the music sounds good too, though I'm not sure if it will be as good as John William's Star Wars scores of the past. But overall, this trailer has succeeded in keeping my hype up for this movie. December can't get here soon enough. But not before Doctor Strange comes out next month. What do you guys think of this trailer?
  11. Note: Slight spoilers for the Pokemon Generations videos are below. Don't read if you haven't seen them yet. I've seen the first four episodes of Pokemon Generations, And I have to say that I've really enjoyed what I've seen so far. It's really cool to see events from the Pokemon world from other viewpoints besides those from Ash and his friends at the time. Plus, many of these events are from the games themselves, which is also neat IMO. I really like the animation they used for make these stories. It's different from the animation used in the anime, but I think that's good because it helps Generations standout from the show. Though unless I'm mistaken, the anime will use a similar animation style for when it goes to the Aloha Region. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that.) And since these are based more off the games than the anime, I do think it was a nice touch to have the Pokemon make more animalistic sounds than simply just saying their names. It makes sense for them to do this because Pokemon in the games don't say their names, besides Pikachu from the X/Y games and those after them. Overall, Pokemon Generations offers fans a different look into the world of Pokemon, and its an enjoyable experience IMO. I look forward to see where they go from here. What do you guys think of Pokemon Generations so far?
  12. And yet more info on Pokemon Sun and Moon has been revealed visa another video. At this rate, we'll know everything about the games by the time they come out. But anyways, here is what I think about what was revealed in the latest video: 1. The new Pokemon look interesting, but their not the most exciting Pokemon revealed for these games IMO. Null looks cool, but I think its strange that its just a Normal type. Based on its design, I would've thought that it was part Ghost or Dark type, or maybe even part Steel type. But it still looks good IMO. Jangmo-o looks sort of average compared to some of the other Pokemon revealed though, but I bet it evolves into something neat. 2. I also like how Alohan Raticate looks, even though its stuffed cheeks make it look like its about to throw up. 3. The Aether Foundation looks to be a neat organization. I guess they will help you out with taking down Team Skull. 4. It looks like Zygarde will be one of the Legendary Pokemon you get in the game. I guess this makes Sun and Moon the unofficial Pokemon Z game. But joking aside, going on a hunt for cells and cores could add somewhat of a Metroid vibe to the game, with going around and collecting items and all. It could be fun if executed right. 5. It also appears these games will be the unofficial Pokemon Snap 2 that people have wanted. I wonder if they added it into this game because one can also take pictures of Pokemon in Pokemon Go? Probably not, but it wouldn't surprise me if that were the case. 6. Ultra Beasts are introduced here. I'm not sure exactly what they are, but the video states that they are a threat. This makes me think Team Skull has something to do with them. 7. I saved what I think is the biggest reveal of the video for last, in that Sun and Moon will be set 12 hours apart from each other. This means that while Sun will play in daylight when its actually daylight, Moon will be at night during the day and day during the night. (Assuming that your 3DS is at the correct time, of course.) Because of this, certain events will be different between the games. While I'm cool with events being different, I'm not sure how I feel about Moon being at night when its actually daytime. I guess it makes sense, since the game is called 'Pokemon Moon.' But I kind of wish it would be daytime when its actually daytime. And I know that one could just change the clock on their 3DS to adjust this. But if they are playing another game that has events going on in it that are affected by the clock, it could mess up things for those playing those games. But this is just a nitpick of mine. I'm leaning more towards getting Sun anyways, so I guess this won't affect me that much. These are my thoughts on the latest info revealed for Pokemon Sun and Moon. What do you guys think of it?
  13. Quake Beast... easily the weakest of the three beasts, and the weakest of the entire summer wave. It looks awkward from the back and the side, only looking good from the front. The function isn't really that good, either - it's just swinging the crystal arm forward without much oomph. If you ask me - they should have used Skull Basher's function here instead of a gearbox. Also, the legs are only just barely supporting the body. Umarak the Destroyer - the largest single figure G2 is ever going to get. And the last. At least it's worthy of being called a titan. Neck looks a bit awkward from the side, but given that they haven't use the normal neck ball joint, that can probably be easily fixed. Legs aren't quite as bad as they look, they have a reasonable degree of forward-backward movement. Torso gears work fine and quite well. Like Storm Beast, the hands don't have their own ball joints and are more an extension of the forearm, but Umarak's hands are so huge that it would only make Umarak look a lot more awkward. Hands could do with a bit more friction, though, but they're fine as is. Definitely looks menacing compared to the Toa, even moreso than Umarak the Hunter. The Invasion from Below claw pieces - they really do look like Umarak's claws here. Though... across all the beasts, the jaw piece is just so bad. How do you make a jaw piece and not make it have obvious teeth? You can hardly see any teeth on the jaw piece, and I'd imagine it would be received a lot more kindly if it actually looked like a lower jaw with teeth - at the moment , it's kind of hard to imagine it as a lower jaw., And the eyestalk-mask-off mechanism thing: why couldn't the beasts' 'masks' be designed so that it makes the jaw close rather than shooting their masks off?
  14. So truth be told, I actually saw this movie when it came out a few weeks back. I just haven't had the motivation time to type up my thoughts on it. I've seen it two more times since then, and since I have some free time now, I'll go ahead and get my thoughts posted on it. There are spoilers below, so read at your own risk.
  15. Here it is, folks. The second trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: Rogue One which will be out in December. One of the things I noticed about it is that it has a darker tone to it than from what we saw with The Force Awakens trailers. I really hope that they keep this tone for the whole movie. I don't mind a few jokes here and there, like the couple they have here in the trailer. But overall I kind of want a darker story to be told in this movie. But that is just me. I also think the visuals look great. I particularly liked the scene that shows our hero's ship flying into what appears to be a giant sandstorm. It kind of gives me a Mad Max: Fury Road vibe. The scene where they are flying through what appears to be a thunderstorm looks great as well. Overall, I enjoyed watching this trailer and it has succeeded in getting me excited to see Rogue One. Now December just has to get here.
  16. And here we have DC's third movie in it's connected universe. While I did think it was better than Batman vs. Superman, I do think it had some problems. Here are some of the pros and cons of Suicide Squad IMO. Warning, in the following I will talk about some spoilers about the movie, which is why its in spoiler tags. Read at your own risk.

    Apocalypse?

So, I liked X-Men Apocalypse. Haven't had more than a few hours for it to sink in yet, but, you know, so far so good. I like how the main villain's early actions make it understandable how someone could choose to follow him without personally desiring the end of the world. I mean... nuclear disarmament? Good start, buddy! But What if What if there were a story where some mighty immortal, trapped under rocks for literally thousands of years, woke up, got to see the world And had an overall positive reaction at first? Like, They saw cars, and were impressed with the speed at which a machine, unaided by any beasts of burden, could move And they saw trains, and got excited about trains, because trains are exciting And then planes. Wow, planes. Planes! If I were that old, and had been asleep that long, planes would blow my mind. And then someone tells them that smallpox isn't a thing anymore, and oh my good golly gumdrops, smallpox isn't a thing anymore! Again, coming from that far back in history, I'd be blown away. So they're impressed by that, and by the scale on which people live now (because Cairo ca. 1984 is much, much bigger than Cairo back when there were still working out the issues in pyramid-building), and at first this mighty, immortal ruler, this ancient world-ruler, is just walking around, taking in the sights, and they're thinking, y'know, this is good. I like what you've done with the place. A+ work, kids. And where they go from there kind of depends on the tone you want to set. Do they remain impressed? Do they decide that humanity, while it has progressed, still needs them at the helm for some reason? Do they see something, some darker side to this advancement, that convinces them that they need to do something big to change things? Can't really get into that last one without discussing what it is that would convince them that the world needs re-making, and I'm not in the mood to make it something ridiculous like Adam Sandler movies (though, to be fair, "burn the world" is a perfectly understandable reaction to Adam Sandler's financial success), so... yeah. Fun thing to think about.
  18. I saw this movie last week, but I haven't had a chance to post my thoughts on it until now. I'm putting them in spoiler tags, so I don't spoil anything for those who haven't seen it yet and want to. So don't read any further if you don't want to be spoiled.
  19. So over the last few days, new trailers for Independence Day: Resurgence, Star Trek: Beyond, Ghostbusters, and Beauty and Beast have been revealed to the public. It's been awhile since I've talked about new movie trailers, so I thought this would be a good time to fix that. The following is my thoughts on these trailers. Note: The only trailer I have a link to is Beauty and the Beast. The others have either language which prevented me from linking to them here or I wasn't sure if I wanted to link it here. Independence Day: Resurgence This trailer came out today, and it is almost FIVE MINUTES LONG! (And I thought the trailers for Batman vs. Superman revealed too much info for that movie) Regardless, this trailer shows a lot of action scenes that actually looked kind of cool. I'm not expecting it to have the greatest story ever though, so its not on my 'must watch' movie list. But I also thought the same thing about last year's Terminator movie, and I actually really enjoyed that movie. I would complain about it revealing too much info about the movie, but like I said, this movie isn't one I'm dying to see. I'll still probably will end up seeing this when it comes out though. Star Trek: Beyond Now this was a good trailer. It definitely had more of a Star Trek feel than the first trailer for this movie. It had more of a dramatic tone than a comedic one, which really made it better IMO. I originally had doubts about Beyond and if it could live to its two previous movies, but this new trailer has put some of those doubts at ease. This trailer has succeeded in getting me excited for this movie, and that is all I can ask of it. Ghostbusters I will admit that I'm not the biggest Ghostbusters fan. I've seen most of the original and a couple scenes of the second one. I have nothing against the original movie, but I just never really got into it as some other people have. This is most likely why I'm not too excited for this movie coming out, as oppose to reasons other people have stated on other forums. I mean, this trailer has its funny moments, I guess. The effects look good as well. But this trailer, along with the other one, really haven't shown me anything to get me interested in the movie enough to go see it. And again, this is most likely from me not just not being a fan of the series. Thus, I probably won't be seeing this in the theaters. Beauty and The Beast Because this is a teaser trailer, not much is really shown here. But I've expressed an interest in seeing this in one of my previous blog entries, and that interest is still there after seeing this. I like the music that is played in it, and the visuals look good too. It still too early to tell if this looks good or not IMO, but I'm still interested in seeing it when comes out next March. So what did you guys think of these trailers? Which ones did you think were good and/or bad? Were there any other trailers that came out recently that I missed when making this? Let me know!
  20. Here's the trailer for those haven't seen it yet: As for what I think of it, I think it looks pretty good. Once again, its looks as though Marvel has made a great casting choice for one of their movies. I think Benedict Cumberbatch will do a great job as Doctor Strange. Also, the reality warping scenes look amazing in this. Especially with that first scene of it. I have seen people say that this sort of looks like a mix between Batman Begins, Inception, and The Matrix. And I do kind of gets those vibes from it as well. But I trust Marvel to be able to give us something original with the plot of this film. Overall, this teaser succeeds in what its suppose to do, get the interest of the viewer without giving away too much. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this in November. P.S. Anyone else think that 'Teach me' quote at the end of the trailer is going to become a meme? Something tells me that it will.

    Akida

Acquired Akida. I have to wonder: why does a fish need dual gatling guns? The orange + light blue combo is nice. Not so sure on the transparent light blue and transparent dark blue combo, though. Think Akida could've done with more transparent dark blue parts, Akida's probably the least function-based of the creatures, the function is hardly a function on Akida alone. It's more there to turn the gatling guns and fins. Akida's a fish I guess. Eh. Well, at least it isn't a bit of a mess like Ketar is. Akida's... nothing special compared to Uxar or Ikir.

    2016 Summer Wave

Where are the honkles? So, we've seen the Summer Wave and I had to delete my last entry pertaining to my thoughts on them as they were still leaked info at that time - we'd only got names, not pictures, and I was talking as if I'd seen pictures. I'll speak no more of them, because even though we've seen the summer sets, the actual images I saw are still leaks - that doesn't change just because we saw then in non-leaks. I'll start with Umarak the Destroyer. As a fan of Umarak the Hunter... I think the summer incarnation loses too much of Umarak. I don't get why the antlers had to go when they were one of Umarak's most defining features. Instead, they're replaced with horns that are all too common, used in sets like Pyrox and Skull Basher. It also bugs me his upper legs are shorter than they were in Hunter, and yet they made the lower legs longer by using longer beams, so these shorter upper legs negate the presumed point of the lower legs, which I assume was to make Umarak the Destroyer taller than Umarak the Hunter. If there's one colour that I like more than other people seem to, it's the transparent neon green, but here, for once, I don't really agree with it. Transparent Neon Green doesn't look anywhere near as good as the Transparent Green Umarak, Uxar, and Protector of Jungle us. Also, why does he have such a thin, spindly neck without articulation? Let's move on to Lava Beast. Lava Beast, I think, looks decent. It's pretty clear it's a beat, but I think Lava Beast is a bit too humanoid and the lower legs could probably have been replaced with one 3m or 4m bone and a 5m bone with hinge, if you know what I mean. I like the weapons, and I like the lower arms, but I don't agree with the crystal shell add-ons being transparent black when Lava Beast has no other transparent black pieces. I like the attempt at giving his head variety by giving him a shadow trap half to give him a 'crest' of sorts. Storm Beast would look so much better if the transparent blue was replaced with transparent dark blue. Also, the hands could do with being hands instead of feet. And I'm not too sure what the function is supposed to be, except it looks extremely limiting and clunky - it looks like the tail can't move where it's connected but the tail has articulation in the middle - like Ketar. Actually, that might be it - Storm Beast has Ketar's function, in which case, expect Storm Beast's arms to fall down and be hard to pose. Quake Beast... uhhhh. What's with the random transparent neon green disc-thing and the random shell and blades on the shoulder? They look extremely out of place, and the shoulder shadow-trap doesn't look good nor would it have much functional use being there at all. And it appears that Quake Beast, much like Protector of Earth, suffers from having only half a spiky thing. Quake Beast also doesn't pull off the asymmetry as well as Skull Warrior did last year, nor does the combination of transparent purple and transparent neon green look good. Ekimu: I think Ekimu is the best lower-priced set of the wave. But I wouldn't mind Ekimu being replaced with another beast. He's like the Toa, except with a gearbox instead of a piece of unification. He appears to be doing something similar to Tahu and Gali last year, where they had shells over the shoulders, except for some reason it's connected to the torso here when it's probably better-looking to connect them to the shoulders where the arms attach, like Tahu and Gali last year. Easy fix to make, so it's nothing too major. I'm glad the Mask of Creation isn't a gold and transparent blue blend, because just look at the shape of the Mask of Creation: even if it was blended, it really wouldn't look too good - the 'spikes' on the top of the mask are too tall. I guess Ekimu is the new Takanuva. The hammer also looks really good, though I don't understand how the shield is attached. It would be nicer if Umarak's mask was black and transparent-neon-green instead of gunmetal and transparent orange, though. Also, the reason why the Beasts are not as good as the Skeletons? Bpooky Bcary Beasts doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

    Pohatu & Ketar

Acquired Pohatu + Ketar. Let's start with Ketar. Ketar is... Ketar. A bit awkward constructed, if anything. Especially compared to the other creatures. Its back does not look pretty, which is bad since that's what you see from the sides and from the top. I don't understand why the glatorian necks that hold the arms have the axles of the gear pieces poking out through them. Why not use one of those Ikir uses to prevent the y-joints from having the axle pieces poke through them? It's just two small pieces and an incredibly simple solution that would go some way to improving Ketar's appearance. There's no reason not to have them. Then there's the tail. This really highlights why CCBS needs an equivalent of that y-joint variant that was common titan sets 2004-2006. Or instead of that, instead of the angled dual-connector thing, why not use one of the ordinary non-angled dual-connector and add one of those singular ball joints onto the end, then the CCBS bone portion of the tail? Along with some more bones to make the tail longer. Gives the tail articulation without sacrificing the function. And why the random gunmetal piece of unification? Ketar already has silver, Pohatu has silver, the only set that does have a gunmetal piece of unification is Umarak so there is really no reason for the piece of unification to be gunmetal instead of silver. As it is, it's one of the two colours really taking away from Ketar's colour scheme. The other is the dark brown. It would be fine if they were tan like the vorox armour piece and Pohatu's torso. or even silver. Also, I don't think the dark brown works well with the transparent neon green, not as much as burnt orange or dark tan do. I think the nicest thing I can say about Ketar is that Ketar looks fine as long as you look away from the torso. Pohatu, thankfully, is much better. He's the Toa of Stone. The silver works decently well. Though I'm not sure if the transparent neon green armour on the transparent green bones work. Transparent-on-transparent worked on Onua because transparent purple isn't as eye-blinding and only noticeable in bright light, but transparent neon green is very noticeable except in dim or no light. So it's a huge mass of bright in a set with otherwise dark colours. The shells should be dark tan or burnt orange rather than what they are. Preferably burnt orange. On a more positive note, I like the shoulders. Out of Kopaka, Lewa, and Pohatu, I think Pohatu makes the best use of Voroxiculus Scapulosis (commonly known as 'Vorox Shoulder Syndrome). It makes his shoulders look either wider than they are or narrower than they are, I can't really tell. But it does help carry a desert feel, especially with the lower part of the glatorian neck exposed and the bohrok teeth. He's got a pretty nice weapon. Simple, but it works. It's not a spear (spears have shorter blades, I think) and the rock is nice. Strangely, the crystal piece Pohatu uses seems to be blended between silver and a very odd shade of transparent green. It's not quite transparent neon green, as in some lights it resembles the transparent regular green Uxar and Umarak use. But it's not transparent regular green either. So I don't know what colour it is exactly, but it's a weird colour. I like the new mask of Pohatu. If only because the top has more detailing on it. Last year, Pohatu looked a bit bald (especially with the drained version of the mask) after a while and that bothered me. Unification: ...I don't even know. Pohatu gains... not armour. Not wings. Something. It's something. It doesn't really look as good as the other unifications. Nor does it look good. Nor does it give Pohatu anything useful. Ketar's just a weight on Pohatu's back that doesn't add anything useful. Ketar's blade-claw-things aren't useful since they have extremely limited articulation while not having that great a reach while on Pohatu's back, and the tail's too short to give Pohatu a stinger tail. The legs are too short to wrap around Pohatu's torso to give him extra armour, and it just ends up looking odd if you try. I totally get why Pohatu hates scorpios now - they make him carry then on his back, and give nothing useful. If anyone can make sense of Pohatu's useless unification, it's not me. Ketar, Ketar. Worst creature, worst unification.

    G2Tahu & Ikir

Acquired Tahu and Ikir. Let's start with Ikir: Mostly looks good. Mostly. The talons on the feet are nice, able to wrap around a finger tightly. The way the wings attach, however, looks horribly awkward. (Terak has the same problem, but it's hidden well) The tail flaps the wings in a mechanism that's exactly the same as Uxar using different pieces, and the tail itself looks decent... when down. When it's up and the wings are far back, it looks awkward as it's jutting out of the middle of Ikir's back, instead of where a tail should be. I also wish they'd recolour the red + yellow transparent flame pieces to orange and yellow or red and orange already, as right now there are very little transparent yellow or transparent red pieces, and isnted a lot of transparent orange pieces. Ikir's head is nice, being transparent orange and gold, which is honestly a rather nice looking combination of colours. Onto Tahu: I've done a complete 360 on my position on Tahu now that I've seen him with my own eyes. He doesn't look anywhere near as bad as people claim, IMO. Transparent Orange and Gold is a wonderful combination. (Bright for six years? Not overused, somehow... Dark (metru) red for four years? Overused!) I don't really understand the seeming disappointment about the piece of unification being used as armour, or the dislike of the torso. They're hardly the first pieces of their kind with such detail. (Both of the breakout add-ons - round and square, breakout torso, piston piece, skull armour piece, skull axe, skull sword, Lewa/Gali axe pieces, Onua shoulder pieces, Tahu lava board piece things, Ordeal of Fire jetbug engine shells, Ordeal of Fire weapons... yeah, since the start of CCBS.) What doesn't fit on Tahu is the blue, IMO. The gears on the weapons make them stick out to the side a little too much, The shoulders are also a little too wide, like wider-than-an-inika Torso wide. And that's ridiculously wide, since Inika torso wide was already pushing it way back in G1. Wide shoulders work well on Onua since Onua was meant to be wide, not so much on Tahu.
  25. Got some sets, time for my thoughts. Umarak: Umarak is tall. Probably the tallest BIONICLE set since Toa Mata Nui. Probably. I'm not actually sure. But he's definitely the tallest in a long while. Bow connects a little weirdly on the right hand, though. Makes it a bit awkward to pose. Also, the trap halves on his shoulders get in the way of 'UNITE' mode with other creatures. (The instructions are calling it 'UNITE' mode, so that's what I'm calling it. Which is disappointing. But then again, Umarak isn't really supposed to combine with the creatures - it's just a bonus. Uxar: Uxar's pretty neat, as a four-legged... (insect? Lizard?) thing with wings. Its function was a bit of a pain to build, though, as I inserted it the wrong way the first time... his tail lifts up and down to flap the wings. It's a nice function and Uxar has nice colours, but it seems that so far, a recurring problem with the creatures, is that their function gears are exposed from the back. Terak: The most humanoid of the creatures. Also, has a weird function: pulling a hidden lever on the back raises its arms up. It's got trans purple, and trans purple is THE BEST transparent colour. Although I think I got a messed up Terak, since the add-ons on the claws are gold and transparent clear instead of gold and transparent purple like everyone else's. Lewa: I was wondering why people disliked Lewa this time around. Then I added the arms. Up until you add the arms, Lewa looked honestly really good. Then you add the arms. They're a little too short and it looks awkward, even in the instructions. I'm not sure if this would fix much, but in terms of arm length I'd swap out the friction extenders on the feet and place them on the lower arms, making his arms look a little bit longer without losing the upper arms that make Lewa more unique. Lewa's mask is much, much better than it was last year. This year it actually resembles the original Miru somewhat! Lewa also looks cool in UNITE Mode, but unlike some sets (TAHU), he looks decent without Uxar. Although if you're going to UNITE Lewa with Uxar, I'd say keep the regular mask since Lewa has no gold and the trans-green of the gold mask is going to be covered up by Uxar's silver head. That's another reason to keep the regular mask: Uxar isn't gold. Onua: This version of Onua, in my opinion, is a clear improvement over the awkwardly wide Onua we had last year. He's still bulky, but less ridiculously so. He's still got rather wide shoulders (I don't know if they're the widest in the wave, but I'd assume so) and he's dropped most of the silver he had last year, making him look better colour-wise, The purple has also shifted to trans purple, which is great because trans purple is the best trans colour. For me, his lower leg armour add-ons have the same problem as Terak. Also, the hammer is cool. Because it's a drill-shooty-hammer hammer! That's cool. Terak doesn't really do much in UNITE mode for Onua other than cover the trans-purple shoulder armour pieces, and it's meh. He looks decent with or without Terak. It also seems every Toa has gotten taller this wave. Not sure about Kopaka, though... and yet, Umarak still seems to be taller than all of them. I can't say for certain, but LEGO does say Umarak is 28cm tall. It also says Darth Vader stands 28cm tall, but Darth Vader is a good third taller than Umarak... now I'm confused. Actually, going by images, I'd say 2016 Tahu is taller than Umarak. 2015 Tahu too, probably, now that I think about it... LEGO catalogue and their errors... Addendum: The new torso also looks to be compatible with the 2015 gearbox. I fully expect one of the Summer sets to have both the hip-gear stuff of this wave and the gearbox of last year. That is, if they don't continue with the UNITE stuff.
