    2016 Summer Wave

Where are the honkles? So, we've seen the Summer Wave and I had to delete my last entry pertaining to my thoughts on them as they were still leaked info at that time - we'd only got names, not pictures, and I was talking as if I'd seen pictures. I'll speak no more of them, because even though we've seen the summer sets, the actual images I saw are still leaks - that doesn't change just because we saw then in non-leaks. I'll start with Umarak the Destroyer. As a fan of Umarak the Hunter... I think the summer incarnation loses too much of Umarak. I don't get why the antlers had to go when they were one of Umarak's most defining features. Instead, they're replaced with horns that are all too common, used in sets like Pyrox and Skull Basher. It also bugs me his upper legs are shorter than they were in Hunter, and yet they made the lower legs longer by using longer beams, so these shorter upper legs negate the presumed point of the lower legs, which I assume was to make Umarak the Destroyer taller than Umarak the Hunter. If there's one colour that I like more than other people seem to, it's the transparent neon green, but here, for once, I don't really agree with it. Transparent Neon Green doesn't look anywhere near as good as the Transparent Green Umarak, Uxar, and Protector of Jungle us. Also, why does he have such a thin, spindly neck without articulation? Let's move on to Lava Beast. Lava Beast, I think, looks decent. It's pretty clear it's a beat, but I think Lava Beast is a bit too humanoid and the lower legs could probably have been replaced with one 3m or 4m bone and a 5m bone with hinge, if you know what I mean. I like the weapons, and I like the lower arms, but I don't agree with the crystal shell add-ons being transparent black when Lava Beast has no other transparent black pieces. I like the attempt at giving his head variety by giving him a shadow trap half to give him a 'crest' of sorts. Storm Beast would look so much better if the transparent blue was replaced with transparent dark blue. Also, the hands could do with being hands instead of feet. And I'm not too sure what the function is supposed to be, except it looks extremely limiting and clunky - it looks like the tail can't move where it's connected but the tail has articulation in the middle - like Ketar. Actually, that might be it - Storm Beast has Ketar's function, in which case, expect Storm Beast's arms to fall down and be hard to pose. Quake Beast... uhhhh. What's with the random transparent neon green disc-thing and the random shell and blades on the shoulder? They look extremely out of place, and the shoulder shadow-trap doesn't look good nor would it have much functional use being there at all. And it appears that Quake Beast, much like Protector of Earth, suffers from having only half a spiky thing. Quake Beast also doesn't pull off the asymmetry as well as Skull Warrior did last year, nor does the combination of transparent purple and transparent neon green look good. Ekimu: I think Ekimu is the best lower-priced set of the wave. But I wouldn't mind Ekimu being replaced with another beast. He's like the Toa, except with a gearbox instead of a piece of unification. He appears to be doing something similar to Tahu and Gali last year, where they had shells over the shoulders, except for some reason it's connected to the torso here when it's probably better-looking to connect them to the shoulders where the arms attach, like Tahu and Gali last year. Easy fix to make, so it's nothing too major. I'm glad the Mask of Creation isn't a gold and transparent blue blend, because just look at the shape of the Mask of Creation: even if it was blended, it really wouldn't look too good - the 'spikes' on the top of the mask are too tall. I guess Ekimu is the new Takanuva. The hammer also looks really good, though I don't understand how the shield is attached. It would be nicer if Umarak's mask was black and transparent-neon-green instead of gunmetal and transparent orange, though. Also, the reason why the Beasts are not as good as the Skeletons? Bpooky Bcary Beasts doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

    Pohatu & Ketar

Acquired Pohatu + Ketar. Let's start with Ketar. Ketar is... Ketar. A bit awkward constructed, if anything. Especially compared to the other creatures. Its back does not look pretty, which is bad since that's what you see from the sides and from the top. I don't understand why the glatorian necks that hold the arms have the axles of the gear pieces poking out through them. Why not use one of those Ikir uses to prevent the y-joints from having the axle pieces poke through them? It's just two small pieces and an incredibly simple solution that would go some way to improving Ketar's appearance. There's no reason not to have them. Then there's the tail. This really highlights why CCBS needs an equivalent of that y-joint variant that was common titan sets 2004-2006. Or instead of that, instead of the angled dual-connector thing, why not use one of the ordinary non-angled dual-connector and add one of those singular ball joints onto the end, then the CCBS bone portion of the tail? Along with some more bones to make the tail longer. Gives the tail articulation without sacrificing the function. And why the random gunmetal piece of unification? Ketar already has silver, Pohatu has silver, the only set that does have a gunmetal piece of unification is Umarak so there is really no reason for the piece of unification to be gunmetal instead of silver. As it is, it's one of the two colours really taking away from Ketar's colour scheme. The other is the dark brown. It would be fine if they were tan like the vorox armour piece and Pohatu's torso. or even silver. Also, I don't think the dark brown works well with the transparent neon green, not as much as burnt orange or dark tan do. I think the nicest thing I can say about Ketar is that Ketar looks fine as long as you look away from the torso. Pohatu, thankfully, is much better. He's the Toa of Stone. The silver works decently well. Though I'm not sure if the transparent neon green armour on the transparent green bones work. Transparent-on-transparent worked on Onua because transparent purple isn't as eye-blinding and only noticeable in bright light, but transparent neon green is very noticeable except in dim or no light. So it's a huge mass of bright in a set with otherwise dark colours. The shells should be dark tan or burnt orange rather than what they are. Preferably burnt orange. On a more positive note, I like the shoulders. Out of Kopaka, Lewa, and Pohatu, I think Pohatu makes the best use of Voroxiculus Scapulosis (commonly known as 'Vorox Shoulder Syndrome). It makes his shoulders look either wider than they are or narrower than they are, I can't really tell. But it does help carry a desert feel, especially with the lower part of the glatorian neck exposed and the bohrok teeth. He's got a pretty nice weapon. Simple, but it works. It's not a spear (spears have shorter blades, I think) and the rock is nice. Strangely, the crystal piece Pohatu uses seems to be blended between silver and a very odd shade of transparent green. It's not quite transparent neon green, as in some lights it resembles the transparent regular green Uxar and Umarak use. But it's not transparent regular green either. So I don't know what colour it is exactly, but it's a weird colour. I like the new mask of Pohatu. If only because the top has more detailing on it. Last year, Pohatu looked a bit bald (especially with the drained version of the mask) after a while and that bothered me. Unification: ...I don't even know. Pohatu gains... not armour. Not wings. Something. It's something. It doesn't really look as good as the other unifications. Nor does it look good. Nor does it give Pohatu anything useful. Ketar's just a weight on Pohatu's back that doesn't add anything useful. Ketar's blade-claw-things aren't useful since they have extremely limited articulation while not having that great a reach while on Pohatu's back, and the tail's too short to give Pohatu a stinger tail. The legs are too short to wrap around Pohatu's torso to give him extra armour, and it just ends up looking odd if you try. I totally get why Pohatu hates scorpios now - they make him carry then on his back, and give nothing useful. If anyone can make sense of Pohatu's useless unification, it's not me. Ketar, Ketar. Worst creature, worst unification.
  4. We have discovered that Ekimu is an Evil Vampire. Ekimu's name starts with E, and has an i. This is shared with the word 'Evil'. Ekimu's name has an e, m, and i. This is shared with the word 'Vampire'. Ekimu was resting in a coffin for a very long time. Ekimu required elemental energy - he feeds on the elemental energy of other beings. He is currently 'discoloured' because he needs more energy, and has manipulated the Toa into giving him elemental energy. Makuta put his face in the sky to prevent Ekimu leaving his resting place, so that Ekimu may never terrorize Okoto. The Skull Skeletons are not controlled by Makuta or Ekimu - they answer to the Lord of Skull Spiders, who, conveniently for Ekimu, is not in close proximity. Makuta is the face in the sky. He has ascended beyond the need for a physical body. The Mask of Control allows him to control Ekimu's sleep... until his control was broken by Ekimu gaining more power from elemental energy. Most villagers on Okoto have been tricked into basically worshipping Ekimu. Ekimu is now free to unleash his minions on Okoto... and unleash them, he did... This is 100% foolproof and anyone that says otherwise is obviously one of Ekimu's minions.
  5. Ekimu is evil. You can tell because his name starts with 'E'. Evil begins with 'E'. Furthermore, Ekimu and Evil share an I, making Ekimu more evil. Ekimu? More like Evilkimu. And of course, everything he says about Makuta is not to be trusted. Also, he was sealed in a coffin by the Protectors. What if that wasn't because he was, uh, weak? What if that was because he was a source of great evil and had to be sealed away, and now he has manipulated the entirety of Okoto into reawakening him? Now he is free, ready to unleash his minions, and unleash them, he did.... [MASK OF LIGHT MUSIC] But seriously, what if Ekimu betrays the Toa?
  6. Skull Grinder laughed. It, a mere reanimated skeleton taller than most of the Toa and a very big staff and also a sword for some reason, had defeated all six Toa with little effort, mostly because, as a skeleton, it didn't feel pain. (Skeletons usually don't feel pain.) It didn't have a brain either, but it would prefer not to dwell on the ramifications of being a reanimated skeleton while it was picking on Ekimu, an opponent half its size and with the ability to feel pain. Ekimu was also not at his most powerful, lacking the Mask of Creation which was in Skull Grinder's staff. Skull Grinder waved it around menacingly, and also taunt Ekimu. It also wrote 'YOU SUCK' with its inexplicably appearing-out-of-nowhere and mentioned-never-before laser eyes. Have we established that Skull Grinder is powerful yet? (no, not enough (okay)) Skull Grinder then knocked Ekimu aside with one blow from his staff, sending Ekimu flying, and, frustratingly for Ekimu, sent the gold-blue protector mask flying off of his face. Having won this battle, Skull Grinder walked other to the defeated Toa and laughed skeletoningly. Tahu, almost unable to breath underneath the rest of the Toa, managed to yell a question: "If you're just a Skeleton... how can you defeat ME, the MASTER OF FIIIIIRRREEEE?" Tahu then proceeded to explode the other Toa away from Skull Grinder into an inexplicably dangerous place that would be inexplicably safe for them to rest using the power of BIONICLE G2 Episode Animation, and then began to run at Skull Grinder with his lava-swords at the ready, like he had done so many times before. He also didn't have a plan, he was too distracted by Skull Grinder's chin. Tahu, not knowing the bonuses of being a skeleton, wondered if the chin was the source of Skull Grinder's power as Skull Grinder managed to steal his mask with his sword, causing Tahu to drop to the ground. Skull Grinder then put Tahu's Mask of Fire on its face, draining it of all elemental energy before throwing it back to Tahu because Tahu would inevitably get it back anyway, and also giving the Transparent Orange Mask of Fire a place in G2 Canon as members of the Cult of the Transparent Orange Mask of Fire (COTTOMOF) cheered in the background from nowhere in particular. Tahu gasped for air, almost crawling towards the location of Lewa before remembering this wasn't G1, and instead had to settle for gasping for jungle. He managed to ask another question, unable to yell it this time, as he was drained of elemental power and one of the abilities of fire was yelling things. "You're just a Skeleton... I'm more than a Skeleton! My skeleton is better than yours! It has armour!" Skull Grinder slowly walked towards Tahu, with no facial expression because Skeletons don't have facial expressions because they don't have faces. It knelt down, and stared Tahu in the face behind the mask, silently uttering the most shocking thing Tahu had ever heard since his arrival on Okoto. "No... I am your Skeleton." And then Tahu was Skull Grinder. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ What if the Skull sets were the skeletons of their corresponding Toa?
  7. After criticism that 'The First Question' was too much like being interrogated, I decided for a lighter, more relaxing approach. If generation 2 bonkles have shells does that mean they're snails or turtles? If you take them off does that make them... skull skeletons?
  8. Due to the recent gain popularity of Bionicle, I was looking into doing so research for the site Know Your Meme in regards to Bionicle related memes and injokes. Unfortunately, I have not really kept up with the community much, so I have missed a few things. While I have a general idea for some of them, I am either missing some information (often about it's true origin or need help in showing spread) and was hoping that coming to a group of people dedicated to Bionicle might be able to clear up a few things, and make it more clear for anyone else curious about them. Please note, I'm looking for Bionicle based memes/ injokes. Popular BZP fads that had nothing inherently to do with Bionicle (such as 92% of people signatures) are not really what I'm looking for. Toa Voriki Origin: using google search by specific time, the oldest post I found of Toa Voriki was on a Neoseeker thread about a Bionicle add on story, posted on January 1st, 2002. I've read a post on Eurobricks that claimed the origin of Voriki to 2001 on BZCommunity. While the exact origin may be difficult to pin down, fortunately a surviving 2002 webpage on archimatrix.com still exists which provides his "backstory". More clear signs of his spread, as well as clear origin would be useful. Tuggles Origin: Created by BZP user Authraw in 2005. Love them or hate them, the were very popular for a time. As Biosector01 put it: "(a) well known fad resulted in the making of literally hundreds of “cute MOCs”, which many attribute to Authraw’s Tuggles." Unfortunately, all these old threads were lost. While there are still a few files on brickshelf that have tuggles and tuggle parodies, including Authaw's original, these do a poor job of showing spread. If anyone happened to have screen caps, or know of some tangible way to show spread of this (such as if tuggles spread to other sites), please let me know. Bonkles Origin: this one I have no Idea on. when I first saw it, it was after the 2015 rumors had surfaced, so I assumed it had originated with that. However, after doing some digging, I found at least one Tumblr post from 2012 using the term. This one should be the easiest to find spread of, as it seems to be the most currently popular one, but the actual origin of the term would be nice to find out. Good guy/ Bad Guy Origin: BZPower first reported the sets known as "Good Guy" and "Bad Guy" on August 10th 2006 being promotional Bionicle polybags. While they were well know to having uninspired builds, and even less inspired names, they seem to have increased in popularity recently, gaining a sort of ironic fandom. People have made surprisingly good fanart of them, as well as photoshoped images with them. If anyone knows when this kind of stuff originated, that would be useful. Others The ones listed are the biggest ones I can think of. While there are other smaller injokes that I can think of , some new and some old (I didn't slip, the plushies, Who ate all the pies?, the Piraka Rap) none of them really hit me as being particularly notable. However, if you know one I have not listed, or think that one I thought was not notable really is notable, please let me know, and try to support why you think that way.
  9. Did everyone else see the announcement LEGO just made? From the second half of 2015 onwards, all constraction sets are to be edible. Colour will correlate to flavour, so we'll end up with cherry-flavoured Tahu sets, Blueberry-flavoured Gali sets, Chocolate flavoured Pohatu sets, et cetera. A bold move, indeed. Apparently, this to increase safety amongst the younger range of Constraction fans. Well, I can't wait to taste the new Skull sets and the sets of next year! I hope nobody's done this before, or I'm a fool

    2028

I can't wait for G3, which has been confirmed to be launching next year, in 2028! Interestingly, there are these six heroes called 'Toa', controlling the elements of: Fire, Air, Jungle, Stone, Ice, and Lightning. Seems that Ice and Water have been combined, as have Stone and Earth. Seems to be the first incarnation of BIONICLE without Makuta, though it would also seem that the Bohrok are the first year bad guys this time around. Or at least, things that look and are functionally very similar to the Bohrok. G1 lasted ten years, G2 lasted eight, and I hope they don't pull the controversial 'Tahu is evil' again like they did at the end of G2.

    Nuva Masks

Given that I was complaining to someone about how far too many of the later masks in G1 were overspecialised and thus completely useless in most situations (compare that with the original 12 masks), this will probably come off as hypocritical, but as long as people continue to beat the very dead horse that is G1, I might as well propose what the Nuva editions of some of the masks without Nuva forms are. This is in addition to what they do already. Huna: Conceals user's shadow as well. Rau: Allows user to instantly create and understand a language on the spot. Mahiki: Allows illusions to be physical and audible, as opposed to just optical. Komau: Allows user to make someone do something against their morals. Matatu: Allows user to use telekinesis on things as long as they know they're there - no longer relying on sight. Ruru: Allows user to absorb light from the surrounding to make things darker, allowing them to manipulate light levels for their purposes. Jutlin: Allows user to make organic material decompose as well. Avsa: Allows user to drain light and all that from a group of people. Shelek: Robs target of all senses, as opposed to just hearing and the ability to speech, Crast: Repulses more than one object at a time. Mohtrek: Can summon future selves as well. Felnas: No longer do you have to be touching your target. Pehkui: Can now shrink other things. Kualsi: Can travel to places nearby all around you, no longer needing to see them to travel to them. Kiril: Can now repair organic materials as well. Tryna: Keeps G1 Canon alive for much longer than it should be. Very popular Nuva mask. Zatth: Summons an army of clowns in addition to the random summon to scare people into submission.
  12. If they continue the undead enemy theme, we might end up with GHOST BONKLES. You know what that means: Glow-in-the-dark CCBS shells.
  13. So after seeing a topic about Bionicle on Ice, I thought a little contest was in order. The challenge: create a Bionicle ice sculpture, like this one: There will only be one winner, and when judging I will take four things into account: - Set choice(s) - Figure pose - Quality (picture resolution and ice clarity) - The name of your entry (references are popular with me) There is a prize for the winner: an MISB 8608 Vhisola. Postage will be covered by me (within reason). Entry period is from now until February 1st. Comment on this blog entry with a link to a photo/photo gallery of your sculpture. Good luck! NOTE: The minimum number of entries required for the contest to go ahead is 15.

    So...

Would anyone be interested in a fanfic where, a year after BIONICLE ended, the toa start popping up in our world and the humans they find themselves with try to balance helping their childhood heroes and their bank accounts while dealing with young adult life in their early to mid twenties? 'Cause I'm kinda writing the middle of the story right now. "You had your chance at the cotillion, you!" ~The Duchess Approves <3

  16. I am now the operator of the single existing UK Bionicle fan page! PM me for the link, There's a few leaked images on it, so I'm not linking it here. If you live in the UK, and love Bionicle, don't hesitate to join! There's plenty of discussion to be had! -Bike
  17. whas all this hubbub i'm hearin bout it's happening =D
  18. I had no scanner, these photos were taken with my phone. All of them, yay! Macku, for those who can't tell that it's a blu chick. Kopeke, for those who can't hear him saying "My name is Kopeke". Taipu & Hafu, Taifu & Hapu, Haifu & Tafu, for those who don't know who is who, like me. Takua, for those who are too blinded by the light to see that he's blue, red and yellow. Kapura, for those who is scrolling down this page too fast to see who it is. Tamaru, for those who can't read Matoran. Made these yesterday after I've thought about how awesome all these guys were, I also accidentally started shipping Taipu and Hafu when researching all the characters. I'm so sorry, BZP. I like these designs, but I'm not too sure about my skills in general, constructive feedback would be appreciated. On my tumblr, if you want to reblog it.
  19. Hey guys. I finally found something I like to draw. #1
  20. Bonkles has re-consumed my mind over the past 4 months. During that time I made too many fanarts. I've had an idea for an alternate universe/retelling of Bionicle in an organic universe for a while, but I could never make designs I was happy with. And no, it's not like Digimon Frontier. If it's like anything, it's Avatar TLA. Mostly because Avatar implemented the concept of elemental powers in such a natural way that I can't imagine them being used differently. Toa are kind of Avatars themselves, if the Avatar could only bend one element, and there were 6 of them. Don't wanna ramble too much, but I want to focus on the fantasy parts of Bonkles and not the sci-fi ones. After the Rakhshi/Mask of Light arc, we go straight to Bara Magna. I loved Metru Nui, but having a 3 year long flashback really broke up the story's flow. I was lost for years, man. Mata Nui's people are bright, colorful, and tribal. I tried to give each elemental region its own style of dress. Ta-Koro is Hawaiian, Ga-Koro is Fijian/Filipino, Le-Koro is Mesoamerican, Ko-Koro is Inuit, Po-Koro is North Africa/Australia, and Onu-Koro is Central Africa. The Matoran of Metru Nui are based on some of the world's classical ancient cities. The Makuta don't actually have physical forms, they're still clouds of shadow energy bound to a suit of armor. Both Gorast and Teridax are inhabiting the bodies of posessed Matoran. Also I'm moving Gorast from Karda Nui to Mata Nui, because lack of females. She's Teridax's second in command and does his dirty work while he's still sealed inside the Mask of Shadows. Desert punk meets sword and sandal meets Dune, the Glatorian and Agori are mostly Greco-Roman inspired. Because they have no elemental powers, they have normal hair colors. Hesta is a fan character I guess. Because lack of females, again. She was a Fire Tribe Glatorian before an injury forced her to retire. You can never truly retire on Bara Magna however, so she still offers protection as a living. She fought alongside Ackar in the arena, and she's someone of an "old flame" of his. dohoho. (and no, I don't really like Ackar as a character, I just thought it might be interesting to have a female warrior who is not only older, but of the "leader" element.) Her weapon is a spear topped with a Tuurahk staff head. The Skrall are an Agori subspecies that has adapted to living underground, posessing infrared vision and low body heat. They have a somewhat hive-like structure, with each class specialized for different tasks. Their weapons and armor are carved from the sharp obsidian that lines the planet's caves. And no, the women were not granted psychic powers by a Great Being. We are not even going there. 21. So I looked at this and thought "Why wasn't this canon?" Help join the cause to give Vezon an axe for a hand in the story serials! If Greg can magically make old deceased characters alive again, he can at least make this alternte set portrayal exist. And by the way, it won't be a shield, it will actually be the blade of an axe replacing his hand. Shields are so generic. Also, if this is confirmed, it will have to have existed for the past six years, starting with Kardas' first appearance. 22. As of the first Breakout wave, Furno has been released as a constraction figure more times than any character from BIONICLE. However, that's not counting the BIONICLE sets with minifigures. In that regard, I believe Hewkii was the winner with ten appearances: 1. Huki (2001) 2. Hewkii (2003) 3. Toa Hewkii (2006) 4. Lava Chamber Gate (as a minifigure, 2006) 5. Piraka Stronghold (as a minifigure, 2006) 6. Race for the Mask of Life (as a minifigure, 2006) 7. Toa Hewkii Mahri (2007) 8. Barraki Deepsea Patrol (as a minifigure, 2007) 9. Toa Undersea Attack (as a minifigure, wearing a Volitak for some reason, 2007) 10. Toa Terrain Crawler (as a minifigure, 2007) Taking that into consideration, Furno has a ways to go before he dethronres the true King of Being Released Over And Over Again.
