  1. I really liked big Ekimu, but he had few issues that I decided to fix (mainly a little too much of trans blue color and strange pads): rebuild legs; rebuild torso (a little rough method to connect, in better way gearbox with new torso), rebuild hammer; added cape from polybag; Big gallery (also pics with gold version of mask, and other torso armors)
  2. Flickr The ancient deity Ekimu, revered by the Matoran as their creator, though his name has long been lost to history, and the Matoran know him only by his title. For countless millennia Ekimu remained withdrawn from the dimensions of mortal perception, invisibly guiding the universe. When the treachery of Makuta cast him into slumber, and later into death, only the energies of the Mask of Life could reach him in his distant abode. With his resurrection by the Toa Mahri and subsequent awakening by the Toa Nuva, Ekimu has returned in splendor to aright his mistakes. Wielding the very powers of Creation, he prepares to strike down Makuta once and for all in the ultimate duel... There have been a lot of Gen 1 characters in Gen 2 style, but what about the reverse? In fitting with the theme of BBCC 73, Ekimu uses only four pieces from Hero Factory / Bionicle Gen 2: the mask, a piece of unity, and the two HF feet; and I'd consider the former two to be about as detailed as Gen 1 pieces anyway. I also made sure to use some of the most characteristically large and over-detailed Gen 1 pieces, such as the Olmak (everyone's favorite mask amirite?). The above intro is also basically my headcanon of how Bionicle Gen 1 ended. No Bara Magna, no giant robots.
  3. http://orig04.deviantart.net/3d40/f/2016/174/c/c/the_mask_makers_by_mate397-da7c5p0.jpg Bought another Skull Grinder vs Mask Maker to have the two built, plus additional pieces for Makuta http://orig11.deviantart.net/6c9e/f/2016/174/6/6/makuta_and_his_bird_by_mate397-da7c6la.jpg Makuta also got a őet bird of his own based on the Falcon Ekimu has with the up coming magazine polybag http://orig04.deviantart.net/b1c6/f/2016/174/c/4/bird_close_up_by_mate397-da7c6oq.jpg And last but not least Ekimu the Mask Maker fully decked out with a minor alteration http://orig04.deviantart.net/32a2/f/2016/174/a/a/ekimu_the_mask_maker_by_mate397-da7ca09.jpg edit: Makuta's hammer design is not mine, it was first posted on the bionicle 4chan message board by a person, just wanted to make that clear before think I made the design up.

    Ekimu

Ekimu, Lava Beast, and Storm Beast arrived in the mail today. Ekimu's Magical Growth Spurt is a pretty good set. He finally got rid of that impractical hammer-gun and replaced it with a hammer, in addition to mounting his shield to his forearm so he can wield his hammer two-handed if he so wishes. Hammer is a pretty creative and clever arrangement of pieces that creates a shape one mold probably wouldn't be able to replicate. Also, the transparent blue is excellent him. He's like the Toa, but also a bit different, probably because he uses both gear functions and is mostly transparent. Also, the Umarak mask is pretty cool looking although it's puzzling why it appears in the set. Lava Beast, well, visually, IMO, Lava Beast is the least cluttered-looking of the monsters - no immediately obvious function parts and no ball joints or cups that don't do anything. Biggest downside is the lower legs, which really could've been done better if they were done more like Storm Beast's lower legs, which look significantly better. The blades on the arms also have gears to them which give them quite a bit of friction when the ones that swivel, well, swivel. Also, the new armour piece works the best on Lava Beast, IMO. Storm Beast is more about the function than the look, although the function's parts don't really stand out that much, fortunately. Storm Beast also has significantly better lower legs than Lava Beast. Storm Beast's function is a good idea in concept, however it's not as good as people thought it would be - it causes the arms and tail to flop around a lot, and they won't stay in place if raised, not to mention it doesn't work 100% perfectly - when you pull the tail down, for instance, there is a good chance one arm will be slightly lower than the other. Also, the colours are pretty decent and probably the most eye-catching blend of the beasts. Transparent lime, dark blue (let's just call it that because calling it metru blue is outdated nonsense), and transparent blue go together quite well. However, the jaws of the beasts are pretty bad. They're more or less fixed in place unless you want to pop the mask of, which you probably don't because few masks fit the beast's heads with the jaw attachments. Not to mention that you can already see the lower jaw of the transparent lime head - so it looks there's this weird, out-of-place gunmetal thing attached to the sides of their heads. It puzzles me why LEGO didn't repurpose the 'masks-pop-off' function of pressing down on the eyestalks to open and close the jaws, as there was a perfect opportunity for it. Ekimu > Lava Beast > Storm Beast
  5. ...then why do most of the masks on Okoto look the same?
  6. So sometime ago I changed few things in my Ekimu, now he isn't so gold anymore and have rebuild hammer. Old "gold" version: http://imgur.com/a/QalL8#0 New version: Gallery: http://imgur.com/a/RIooz
  7. I started writing a long story on Kulta the Skull Grinder, sort of an origin story, a few months back. In my opinion, G2 has a lot of great opportunities for world-building and serious character depth, and this is my first serious attempt at a fanfic. Hope that it's good. Comments and criticism are awesome. Chapter One: Untold thousands of years ago. Two of the most skilled magicians on the island of Okoto dueled. A fierce, artfully measured battle bruised and bloodied the tapestries within the temple on the outskirts of a beautiful city. The elderly women and men of the city told stories of the temple, and how a beautiful goddess flew down from the heavens with a blessing of the city and a commandment to build the temple. An unbelievable colossus was built. Today, the tapestries within were threatened with destruction. Ekimu was a war-lord, a magician, a mask maker whose past, even then, was a blank page in every history book. Now, he battled against a mask; some simple sheet of face-hugging metal. No one believed that Ekimu could possibly be murdered by a mask. But it wasn't just any mask. For longer than any elder of Okoto could remember, two wizened craftsmen had ruled the island, known as the mask makers of Okoto; two of the most powerful and most skilled sages when it came to both metal-working and magic. Ekimu and his talented brother, Makuta had served as the two sages and rulers of the land for such countless centuries, tenfold beyond the earliest known writings of the Protectors. Their army was a fearsome force among the nearby isles, as surely loyal to its commander, Kulta, as the blood of many a conquered enemy that surely kept time, drip, kept eternal time as it dripped into the ground. But Makuta had done the unthinkable, never before attempted by a mask maker; the magician dared to combine every single elemental force, failing to even omit the most dangerous of them all, the shadow. So it was that the talented brother harnessed the deepest force of Okoto, death in his vast powers. Now, Makuta screamed in his brother's presence, the speech distorted by the empowering sheet of metal that he wore on his face. "Do you remember the praise they all gave you? Have you forgotten about the gift-diamonds, the frescoes? I will not let injustice pass! Cannot!" And Makuta began to draw up a calloused hunk of molten rock from the power of his mask, glowing and painfully hot to even be near. "Not sure if you've heard that I've beaten you! Not sure if you've heard of my most pristine creation! So fresh, it's barely out of the furnace!" He hurled a ball of molten rock at Ekimu's face. A quick dodge was all that was needed, and a swift follow-up to put him in his- yet, Makuta was swifter still than Ekimu even when the latter was angered, for he wore that mask, what a terrible mask! Makuta created a chasm in the earth to trip his brother, who fell quicker than any man could have reacted. Today, Makuta wore a mask of power more horrifyingly unpredictable than anyone could possibly dream of, not the least drop docile or caring. A joke for the mask is waking you up off-balance after a drugged sleep. A favor is a smooth death with a well-sharpened knife. In Makuta’s mind a brave and brutal war is the same as a small quarrel. An annoyance is as harshly dealt with as a generation-spanning betrayal by a proven friend. "You enjoy this, don't you?" Ekimu rolled onto one side and began his long climb out of his trap. "I find it quite sad, actually.", the menace said, pausing in his duel. "Warring with one such as you is little more than a means to an end." Ho, Ekimu could not simply leave the best craftsman, closest ally, as the creature that he was on that day. But tales of the past had left him that Makuta could not be redeemed. So, with his last ounce of strength, he sprint-climbed out of the chasm and formed from around him his hammer, a gigantic blue war weapon. With one strong shot, he struck a flailing Makuta, a murky beast, into the air, knocking his mask of power from his face. No longer would Makuta dwell as a mask maker on Okoto. … It had been decades since Kulta had been rushing as fast as he was to the high pyramid of the mask makers in the center of the city. Dire though the note read, vague as it was, there was no doubt that he was almost late, and had been arranged to speak at an important funeral. Certainly, Kulta had paraded his army past the sacred site a thousand times through his untold years. But, he could never get used to the greatest site in the city, on the island, and as his brow jumped and his eyes widened yet again, all thoughts of careful pomp and circumstance left his mind. Bellowing commands and spitting vulgar words in between thick gobs of saliva, Kulta’s twin drivers whipped the barely conscious horses on. One incredibly short and fat over fat, one spindly thin and hunched over like a bird of prey against the carriage ceiling that was far to tall for him, they were both slapped into niceties once the brutal yet beautiful image appeared before them. What a wonder it must have been that they suppressed their curses and spitting, their crudeness and rudeness! Kulta’s pupils narrowed and his eyes burned as he forced his way out of the carriage and sprinted over to the procession, shocked. Trying to restrain himself from crying out, as many were, he attempted to think of his wife, his family. He could not pull a single name to his mind as the golden-blue coffin paved a path through the swarming crowd. “Great spirits bless… why, that’s Ekimu!” Knowing nothing but Kulta, the servants waited on him. “A, heh, drink sir? “Better getcha a chare, ser.” Kulta had been struck into a trembling shock, yet the stupidity of his servants came to his advantage on that day as he ordered them out. What a silly time for pleasantries and pomp, he quietly thought to himself. And he never thought that. An barren breeze blasted by him, and yet he did not waver, save to raise an arm, paralyzed by fear, in salute. By the spirits!- he could not waver. Scarcely fazed by the sight as they were, Kulta’s servants responded quickly. “Should I bear witness to the funeral of a god? Rather than deliver the speech that he had prepared, Kulta simply cast his eyes onto the farthest reaches of the ocean of mourners, which, like millions upon millions of pins bobbing up down, any which way in an endless ocean, obscured the early sunset almost completely, a gargantuan throng that shared the commander’s feelings at that very moment.
  8. This is my take on Ekimu and Makuta. Both share nearly the exact same build. Rather than using Ekimu's build from 2015. I went with a similar but more animation accurate design and built a custom gearbox for them. Ekimu has green eyes and Makuta has red eyes. This is cause there are no purple eyes yet and both sets of eyes contrast against there trans colors. I've made Makuta's gear function swing his left arm as in the legend video. Makuta was shown holding his hammer in his left hand. Makuta also has the same shield as Ekimu as I couldn't think of anything else to give to his other hand. With that out of the way here are pictures of the brothers Ekimu http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/Protectors/ekimu1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/Protectors/ekimu2.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/Protectors/ekimu3.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/Protectors/ekimu4.jpg Makuta http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/Protectors/makuta1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/Protectors/makuta2.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/Protectors/makuta3.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/Protectors/makuta4.jpg Together http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/Protectors/ekimuandmakuta1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/Protectors/ekimuandmakuta2.jpg Comments and criticism appreciated
  9. Hello everyone! With the new pieces from Uniter Onua and Terak I was finally able to recolor Ekimu into Makuta. Haven't seen a picture of the brothers together yet so I just wanted to show off I know, I know, Makuta isn't perfect... But still, it was fun to make so voila, here it is. PS: I don't have any photoshop skills and it was made in paint so I still consider this photo a success. Also it's not really a MOC, just a photo so I didn't know where to put the topic.
  10. Centuries ago, two brothers sought to outdo each other in the art of mask-making. Now, after millennia of slumber, they're more partial to conquest, or the hindering thereof. Not exactly a healthy relationship, if you ask me. Anyhow, this be my entry to that there Journey to Amazon-Prime contest, or whatchamacallit. Just so you don't think I can actually draw, this was all accomplished using GIMP. Thanks to BS01, and of course the original LEGO artists, for providing the (now heavily augmented) images. Cheers!
  11. I've seen this idea toyed with before, but not so much in-depth. We look at the villagers of Okoto, and they are all separated into six elemental tribes. If my "trans-bone = skin color" theory holds true here, then each tribe has a unique skin color (fire has orange, ice has light blue, jungle has green, etc). But what about Ekimu and Makuta? The tribes have apparently been around for a long time, most likely dating back before the Mask Makers were born. This would mean that they are descended from one tribe or another. Someone (don't remember who) wrote a story about how the MMs were the children of a Water villager and an Earth villager, each taking the traits of one tribe. This theory stems from that idea. But, if you look at Ekimu, he doesn't have any dark blue, while Kivoda has quite a bit. Ekimu's build more closely resembles Izotor's. Furthermore, Ekimu's golden Protector mask is topped with light blue (like the Ice mask) and his not-gold parts are light blue or silver, much like Izotor. And then there's the whole saw blade shield thing for both Ekimu and Izotor. A symbol of the tribe, perhaps? Next part: Are they really brothers? Ekimu and Makuta are constantly called brothers, and we know that these Okotoans reproduce, hence the children. So, a biological bond isn't out of the question. But what if they're not? Could one of them be adopted? Look at Thor and Loki. If theirs is a similar case, then Makuta and Ekimu might be distant relatives or not really related at all, but raised as brothers of circumstance. So, whaddaya think? Could Ekimu be an Ice villager and Makuta an Earth villager? Or is my late night think-train going off it's rails?
  12. Built to show off the samurai style armour plate around the helmet, built using stacked friction extenders. Samurai Knight Ekimu
  13. We have discovered that Ekimu is an Evil Vampire. Ekimu's name starts with E, and has an i. This is shared with the word 'Evil'. Ekimu's name has an e, m, and i. This is shared with the word 'Vampire'. Ekimu was resting in a coffin for a very long time. Ekimu required elemental energy - he feeds on the elemental energy of other beings. He is currently 'discoloured' because he needs more energy, and has manipulated the Toa into giving him elemental energy. Makuta put his face in the sky to prevent Ekimu leaving his resting place, so that Ekimu may never terrorize Okoto. The Skull Skeletons are not controlled by Makuta or Ekimu - they answer to the Lord of Skull Spiders, who, conveniently for Ekimu, is not in close proximity. Makuta is the face in the sky. He has ascended beyond the need for a physical body. The Mask of Control allows him to control Ekimu's sleep... until his control was broken by Ekimu gaining more power from elemental energy. Most villagers on Okoto have been tricked into basically worshipping Ekimu. Ekimu is now free to unleash his minions on Okoto... and unleash them, he did... This is 100% foolproof and anyone that says otherwise is obviously one of Ekimu's minions.
  14. Ekimu is evil. You can tell because his name starts with 'E'. Evil begins with 'E'. Furthermore, Ekimu and Evil share an I, making Ekimu more evil. Ekimu? More like Evilkimu. And of course, everything he says about Makuta is not to be trusted. Also, he was sealed in a coffin by the Protectors. What if that wasn't because he was, uh, weak? What if that was because he was a source of great evil and had to be sealed away, and now he has manipulated the entirety of Okoto into reawakening him? Now he is free, ready to unleash his minions, and unleash them, he did.... [MASK OF LIGHT MUSIC] But seriously, what if Ekimu betrays the Toa?
  15. I haven't MOCed in a while and buying the G2 Bionicle line has been my first experience with the new building system. So on my days off of work I thought I'd take a crack at some of the sets to revamp. Plus dealing with product photography I decided to start taking pics of sets for reviews in the future as well. So that's how all this came to be. Take a look and check out the gallery since it has all the pics. First off is Skull Basher. I did like the original set, but I wanted to create a more full, menacing and bulky enemy that can look like he can take on Onua. Next is my favorite, a humanoid version of LoSS. I had a lot of fun tinkering with different designs and was inspired by Skull Slicer. And lastly is Ekimu. I really like how he came out, but wish I had more parts for a hammer, and I'm not completely in love with the idea of buying a second set of him. Thanks and let me know what you think! Please view the gallery that has more pictures of all the sets, including some photos of Tahu and Skull Grinder. And bonus link to masonkh's topic for the awesome golden masks: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/19322-chrome-gold-masks/
  16. MOD: Game-style Ekimu Those who have played BIONICLE: Mask of Creation will know that there has been an update to the game recently, which not only introduces Skull Warriors to the battlefield, but also Skull Slicer, Skull Scorpio, Skull Basher and Skull Grinder as four additional boss levels. Also, once you've fought and defeated all the bosses with their Toa of choice, you can also play as Ekimu, the Mask Maker! Now, those of you who are quite observant may have noticed something a bit off about Ekimu's in-game model. For those who haven't, take a look at his shoulders and arms. Ekimu has the same build as Narmoto, the Protector of Fire! The model uses 5M hinge bones and a 5M shell in trans light blue, which are versions of those parts which we do not have IRL. But, we can still build a close approximation - which I have done! What do you think of this version of Ekimu? Is he now more in line with the other figures of his size, or do you feel that he lacks a certain je ne sais quoi without a gearbox?
  17. I tried to follow Greg's description, but it wasn't working so I did this instead - mostly inspired by the Mask of Creation itself. This is my first MOC since Bionicle's return, and it was fun trying to fuse multiple building systems and still have a coherent outcome. It's a fairly straight-forward build, formed around a shadow matoran torso - which I always felt had wasted potential. Feedback welcome, if you want a closer look at anything let me know and I can take some more pictures.
  18. Take a look at some revamps i made! I mainly did this to save shelf space, but ekimu is the main feature here 1. 2.
  19. It has been YEARS since i posted to these forums haha. Last time was probably pre-piraka~ But that's in the past, let's look to the future! With Ekimu our favourite mask maker :3
  20. Just a little something I thrashed out the other day. I doubt many other people here play this specific game, but what the heck.Might as well toss it out there. Simply put, I decided to transfer Ekimu into the dark and complex world of hobby gaming, as an "investigator"/PC for the Arkham Horror board game (using the Strange Eons 3 design tool. Just so you don't think I did all those fancy borders myself or something). I have no idea what possessed me to do this, seeing as I tried to do this exact thing to Tahu once a few years back, and decided it didn't work. Suppose I just had a hunch that Ekimu would fit better, seeing as how he has fewer overt powers. I decided to justify his presence as an interdimensional projection while the "real" Ekimu is sleeping on Okoto, which also let me avoid the futility of trying to make a Mask of Creation that was properly balanced for the game. Thus, his main advantages are his signature hammer and a special ability that allows him to "forge" (i.e. draw from a special deck of cards representing) masks, which he can hand off to his teammates or use himself. For the uninitiated, info on the Arkham Horror board game can be found here: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/arkham-horror/ And now, without further ado: Investigator sheet: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Nyarlathotep/Arkham-Ekimu/ekimu--front-face.jpg Unique Item (Forge Hammer): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Nyarlathotep/Arkham-Ekimu/forge-hammer-front-face.jpg Mask deck, part 1: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Nyarlathotep/Arkham-Ekimu/mask-deck-1.jpg Mask deck, part 2: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Nyarlathotep/Arkham-Ekimu/mask-deck-2.jpg Gallery (when public): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=553674 EDIT: Almost forgot, the Mask of Fire card from the Mask deck isn't as self-explanatory as the others. It gives you a copy of this card: http://www.arkhamhorrorwiki.com/wiki/images/AzureFlame.png
  21. Just a quick observation (which I think counts as S&T): In the animations, Ekimu is portrayed as having blue eyes. However, in the set version of him he has yellow/green eyes. Which seems strange, but could be put down as an animation mistake. The thing I noticed is that a similar thing happens with the Protector of Stone. When he is drawn on the comic on the box and instructions, he has yellow/green eyes. Checking the Mask of Creation game, he also has yellow eyes on the "cutscene" images. But the PoS set has blue eyes, which do not match Pohatu's yellow eyes and break the trend of the Protector and Toa sets having matching eyes. So it is almost like the set versions of Ekimu and PoS have had their eyes swapped from the "canon" animation versions. (I assume the animation versions are more "canon" because that way all the Toa and Protector eye colours match. Also some MoCr promo images imply blue eyes behind it, which would only fit Ekimu if the animated version of him is more accurate.) My (somewhat jokey) theory is that the PoS set is actually Ekimu in disguise, having swapped places with the real PoS to help guide the Toa. (But only in the sets mind - the eyes are correct in the animations.) My other theory is that at some point in production, the pieces for Ekimu and PoS got jumbled up and were rebuilt with the wrong eyestalks in them. But what do you think? Is the "swap" just a coincidence? Why do you think the PoS eyes don't match Pohatu? Are you going to swap the eyes around when you buy Ekimu?
  22. I really like the skeleton theme and thus they all look great to me. ... Skull Scorpion sucks though, Let's laugh at it. Ha ha ha ha. Its legs are less articulated than the Nui-Jaga's legs! Now, for a set using CCBS, I'd say that's quite the achievement. What prevents it from using that CCBS piece with the three ball-joints, with two sticking out, then having legs with Invasion From Below claws on the end attached...? ...if Ekimu can batle 'Big Skull Guy' as I have began calling him, why do the Protectors need to the Toa once Ekimu has awakened? THE TOA ARE THE SKELETONS AFTER THE PROTECTORS KILLED THEM IT'S WHY THEY HAVE THE MASKS
  23. As you can see in that pic (Linked here, in case it's too big and has to be removed), Ekimu clearly has a big yellow gear on his back a la the Toa. And, since Ekimu and Makuta are specifically said to be brothers, we can assume Makuta has one as well. Thoughts? Perhaps the Mask Makers were former Toa. Or maybe they're a special breed of Okotoan. Or perhaps they're literal Gods and this helps differentiate them from normal villagers. Or perhaps it's just there because the set version of Ekimu will have a gear function. Who knows? Post your thoughts/theories ITT.
