  1. A sort-of reboot for the Bionicle Hitman series, made in conjunction with Luroka. I'll be hosting this brief, smaller game, and then he shall host Bionicle Hitman X2 soon after. The Order of Mata-Nui has historically never allowed Toa into its ranks, but today, that is going to change. Helryx has recently decided that having a Toa team operating within the Order’s ranks would be extremely useful, and so she has called for said team to be assembled. Alongside an existing agent by the name of Krakua, they have already hired four other Toa. This is where you come in. In all of the testing so far, you have all, despite all odds, managed to score evenly with each other. So Helryx has organized a competition to see which of you is truly the best of the best; whoever is the last one standing will get to join the Order, and the rest of you… well, you’ll be a little too dead to care. Let the competition begin! HOW TO PLAY In this game, you are attempting to assassinate other players. You will do this by PMing me with both the name of the player you are targeting and the weapon that you will use to do it. You have six weapons at your disposal: a Knife, Poison, Elemental Powers, an Explosive, Mask Powers, or a Zamor Launcher. You are not guaranteed a kill; different assassins will have different resistances and weaknesses against different weapons. When you sign up for the game, you will also PM me a list of all the weapons and corresponding numerical values, like this: Knife: 1 Poison: 2 Elemental: 3 Explosive: 4 Mask: 5 Zamor: 6 This is your “profile”. It tells me which weapons you are weak against and which weapons you are strong against. The lower the number, the weaker you are to that specific form of attack. For example: with the profile above, if someone targeted you with a Zamor, I would roll a die. If I rolled a number lower than 6, you would survive. If you were targeted by an Elemental attack and I rolled a number lower than 3, you would survive. If someone targeted you with a Knife, you would die instantly as there is no number on a die lower than 1. Rounds take place over 24-hour intervals. If you fail to send me a target and weapon of choice, you will take no action that round. What happens when multiple people attack the same target? I will calculate the assassination attempts chronologically. The first person to PM me that target's name will receive 'first dibs' on the assassination attempt. If he fails, the next person will get a shot, and so on. What happens if the last two/three/etc. people all kill each other? There can only be one survivor, so if the last few assassins all kill each other I will reroll. SIGNING UP FOR THE GAME What do I need in order to play? To sign up, just post saying so here in this topic (I recommend that you also follow the topic to make sure you’re up to date with each round). You’ll then immediately PM me with the following list of weapons with corresponding numerical values 1-6. You choose which weapons you are resistant to and vulnerable to. Knife: Poison: Elemental: Explosive: Mask: Zamor: CONTESTANTS These are your fellow Toa. Those eliminated will be highlighted in blue. Signups will remain open for 24 hours unless all slots are filled before then. I will only be opening a maximum of ten slots; but even then, the moment I see these seven slots filled, I'll be closing signups - so you'd better be fast. I plan to end this game by Friday if possible. 1. Ghidora 2. Luroka 3. Arnold 4. fishers64 5. Shadow Ignited 6. Voxumo 7. FF RULES What must I do and not do? 1. No changing targets. I will accept the first PM you send me, and will ignore any others you send in an attempt to switch your target. 2. No complaining about outcomes. I am not biased; I am genuinely just rolling a die. This game is a little bit of strategy with a whole lot of luck. 3. Have fun!
  2. This is the topic for the next three set of Hitman games. Wait until Flaredrick has posted the next topic before posting. And a little message: Fighty has left the series in our hands. Let's do our best to continue his legacy and create a series that can rival the prevalence of Mafia or Bionifight. I think we can do that, but it all depends on everyone. Oh, and sign me up for the next game.
  3. Welcome. Welcome to a new story, a new beginning. A grand opening. A recreation of events long passed... yet different. Welcome to... Dents, Dings and Disasters: Rebirth is a CYOA comic, or when not abbreviated, a Choose Your Own Adventure comic. What this means is that it is based on community input. In other words, all readers may send in what they would like to happen next via PM. These sent messages are known as Action Commands [or ACs]. There are some basic rules however: 1. Prefix your command with the abbreviation for a character. For instance: LER: Do the thing. or... SOR: Do the other thing. 2. You can only send commands for characters that are available to be commanded. There will be a list of command-able characters as the story goes on. 3. Send it in a PM! So as to keep the topic from becoming unnecessarily clogged by simple command posts, and to allow the topic to be used by your actual thoughts on the comic, please use the PM system for commands. 4. Be creative! Feel free to send in something a bit silly or unusual, to make the story more interesting. At the very least, a character's reaction will be something to look forward to. 5. Be understanding. As I most likely will be getting multiple ACs at once, I can only pick one or two, depending on the situation. I might not pick yours. Moving on. The CAMEO SYSTEM. Cameos are the equivalents of Guest Stars, or Permanent Guest Stars. There are two kinds of Cameos: Simple Cameos, and Lasting Cameos, respectively. Simple Cameos [sCs] are the equivalent of GSes, and Lasting Cameos [LCs] are the equivalent of PGSes. However: LCs are not always permanent. If you become too inactive with ACs or at the very least responses, I may have to remove your character to make room for others. Also, SCs might not be extremely important to the plot very often, but it is possible they will appear more than once! So keep an eye out. And now, for the template you use to send in to apply for a Cameo: Name: Spritesheet Link [Xanis only]: Powers [if any]: Fighting style: Weapon: Personality: Cameo Type [sC or LC]: I will be including a list of LCs, SCs, and Main Characters eventually. I will not accept everyone as LCs, keep in mind! ------------------------------ ... ???: Ugh. ???: I always get the night shift... ???: I'd rather be sleeping. It's so unfair... ???: I mean, who would be crazy enough to try and sneak in here? ???: It's such a big compound, and so heavily guarded! We'd have them gunned down in minutes, maybe even seconds! ???: Pfft... ???: HRK! ???: Shhhh... ???: That's not very nice, is it? ???: After all, everyone needs a little crazy to get things done. ???: Just don't make any more noise, and keep quiet. ???: Then I won't have to destroy you right now. ???: Oh, and don't worry. You'll wake up safely on shore... hopefully. ???: No hard feelings. It's just business... ---------- What's this, now? Ah... look at that. A choice. Now... who would you choose? ?LIGHT? ||| ?SHADOW? What will you do?

Upon your arrival I had hoped that we could become allies, perhaps even friends. Unfortunately, this has turned out not to be the case. Before this civil war escalates beyond our control, I have written this as a request for peace in the hopes that you will see your errors and correct them. I will re-iterate that I have no problems giving you control of the Bionicle sets, but to do through violent means is a big “no” in my books. Send a reply with the confirmation of peace and we’ll settle this the old fashioned way with a vote. Or you can continue to be manipulated by your troops, many of whom were in jail for a REASON, Tahu Stars. Reasons I hope that, regardless of any decisions past this point, you will consider and acknowledge before replacing the sets in question back where they belong. If you do not, they could have catastrophic consequences. -Tahu Mata The AfterwordsPrologue: The Numbers Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning, No one could be sweeter than my sweetie when I meet her in the morning. Where the morning glories Twine around the door, Whispering pretty stories I long to hear once more. Strolling with my girlie where the dew is pearly early in the morning, Butterflies all flutter up and kiss each little buttercup at dawning, If I had Aladdin's lamp for only a day, I'd make a wish and here's what I'd say: Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning. “Turn that thing off already, for the name of Tohu. That song is too sad to be playing on a beautiful day such as this.” “Sorry about that. I like Trocadero.” “I don’t care who you like buddy, it’s the first day of spring – doesn’t Trocadero have anything more upbeat?” “Um... looks like we have Blood Gulch Blues on the iPod.” “Don’t you dare put that thing on, it’s almost as sad as this one. Wait, do you have the original version of this?” “Heck no, I hate jazz. I deleted every single jazz song they had on here... and that was a lot of songs. It took me almost four hours.” “Was the original version of this on there?” “Probably, considering how many songs they had. There were over three hundred.” “...I hate you sometimes.” “Somehow, I really do not care.” “Somehow, that doesn’t change the fact that I dislike you immensely.” “Somehow, that – you know what, no. I’m not getting into this catfight again.” “Suit yourself, Evo. Someday you’re gonna find that the iPod has nothing but jazz on it.” “Hey Rocka, you know what?” “What is it Evo?” “I hate you.” *-*-*-* Takanuva Stars, a primarily white set with both gray and silver armour as a secondary colour within his scheme, pointed his staff up towards the attic as he led a red set by the name of Furno through a tour of the house. “You see that trap door?” the white Toa asked. “Yes, obviously I can see it. Why are there scorch marks?” asked Furno. “That is for me to know and for you to never know or question again.” “I can tell that this is going to be an informative tour.” “I don’t get paid to do this. Excuse me if I take some liberties.” Furno rolled his eyes as they walked further down the hall, choosing to remain silent for several minutes until Takanuva Stars halted in front of a room that held a shining gold plaque. “The Bedroom...” Furno said, reading it. “It is arguably the most important room in the house.” Takanuva Stars explained. “Lewa Mata lives there, as do a majority of the sets... the good ones, at any rate. Before Lewa Mata was our leader... well, that’s not important.” “If it’s not important, why even mention it?” “Well, you see, sometimes a Toa slips up and says something he’s not supposed to. Then, when his leader discovers he said something wrong after the guy begins pestering everybody with questions, he tickles the offending slip-upper to death.” Furno opened his mouth to say something, but found that the statement was one he could not really find an appropriate response to. “That said, let’s forget this ever happened and move right along!” Takanuva Stars said, moving right along. “Alright then, I guess. The history lesson can wait until another time.” Furno said. The two slowly hopped down the stairwell, coming to a stop in front of a rather ominous looking door. In fact, it was so ominous that when Takanuva Stars told him to stay away, Furno slapped him across the face. “Of course I’m not going in there!” Furno cried out. “For goodness’ sake, I’m not a moron! Who wants to go on the other side of a door like that?! Where is that, anyway?!” Takanuva Stars glared at him and rubbed his mask. “That door opens up into the stairs that take you to the basement... not much ever happens down there, because most sets stay away from down there. Trust me. Some seriously creepy stuff has walked out of there.” “You don’t have to tell me twice.” Furno shuddered. “Seriously, you need to hire an interior decorator for this place. Scorched trap doors, ominous doors, creepy rooms, a broken time machine outside – HURK!” “What was that about a time machine?!” Takanuva Stars hissed, clutching Furno by the throat and glancing from side to side nervously. “Someone – mentioned that – it was – broken time machine.” Furno managed. “Can’t – remember who – it was.” Takanuva Stars let the Hero go, breathing in deeply and rolling his eyes. “Goodness Furno, don’t scare me like that.” He said. “Scare you like that?!” Furno yelled. “You throttled me a moment ago! Give me some warning next time!” “The point was sort of that you didn’t have any warning – you couldn’t fight back.” “...I hate you.” “Yeah well, so far I’m not too fond of you either. At least the other new sets don’t talk all the time.” “...yeah, you’d be surprised.” *-*-*-* “...so then I told him ‘Furno, you need to stop being such a lazy cow and go to Lewa Mata yourself. You aren’t going to be given a tour otherwise.’ He glared at me for a few seconds, which I suppose was a little scary, but then he just left without doing anything and I got to put on Season 6 instead of Season 3.” Evo said. “Hey Evo, you care to guess something?” “What is it Rocka?” “How much, on a scale of 1-100, do you think I care about your story that I was present in the room for?” “...hmm... that’s difficult to answer. Is it 68?” “It’s lower, you dolt. It’s far lower than that.” “Alright then, just give me a second. I’m gonna try and guess... 12?” “Try about -9, Evo.” “Ouch. That was harsh, Rocka. That was harsh. I think you may have hurt my feelings.” “Good, I was aiming to do that you fatty.” “That’s always assuming I actually consider your opinion to hold any value whatsoever.” “Ooh, getting aggressive are we? I’d take that as a threat if you were actually, you know, physically capable of lumbering more than four steps at a time.” “I’m not fat, stupid! Do you have any idea how heavy this stupid tank arm is?! I have nothing on the other side to even balance it with! So excuse me!” “Suddenly taking offense? I think you do consider my opinion after all!” Evo sighed and shook his head, plopping back down on the couch to continue watching the last few scenes of Season 6. Rocka chuckled and hopped over, poking Evo in the back with his crossbow and then jumping down to the floor with a very clear air of victory about him. Evo mumbled something unintelligible under his breath, and Rocka paused. “Would you care to repeat that for my ancient, withering ears?” “I said that someday I’ll find a way to beat you in one of those arguments.” “That is extremely unlikely, considering I’ve beaten you in all 16 of them so far.” “...I’m just gonna finish my show.” “You do that. Let me know how it works out for you once you’ve hit Season 9.” “What’s that supposed to mean?!” “Well, everyone who’s seen every season agrees that Season 9 sucks.” “Nothing could be worse than Season 3.” “At least Season 3 had a plot.” “...oh dear lord, you have to be kidding me.” “You know Evo, for once, I wish I was kidding. You’ll have to suffer through it on your own this time I’m afraid.” “I think I’ll finish this later. I need a bagel right now.” “See what I mean, fatso? Your solution to every problem – go to the fridge.” “No it isn’t, stupid!” “Give me one time it wasn’t.” “Rocka, how often do you find peanut butter and bagels in the fridge?” “...I’m just gonna let that one go.” *-*-*-* “Please remind me now why we have been staring at a melting pond for fifteen minutes.” Furno requested. “This is almost as bad as watching grass growing.” “Trust me, this isn’t anywhere near there. I would know.” Takanuva Stars replied. “I’m just seeing if I can spot anything.” “Like what?” “That is none of your business, newbie.” “If it’s none of my business, why did you drag me out to look for it with you?” “...shut up with your logic. We’re going back inside.” “That’s more like it! It’s disgusting out here... yuck. So much mud everywhere.” *-*-*-* Far above in the Bedroom, a green Toa watched the two sets leave the pool to return inside. He nodded slowly, lowering his axe down. “Be careful where you step with him, Takanuva.” Lewa Mata whispered. “I’m watching you.” “Who is that you’re watching, boss?” asked Berix, a blue Agori. “Can I watch them with you? It sounds creepy and fun.” Lewa Mata sighed, the moment and tone he’d been going for ruined. “No, Berix, you can’t. They’re already gone now, and you’re too weird to boot.” To Be Continued! 5. Home Videos Everything is gray. The sky, draped low like a blanket over you, is gray. The rain, which could’ve been landing like dust in the wind, or like iron anvils (you wouldn’t have noticed either way), is gray. The people, still as statues in this deluge, are gray. The casket, carried with sad dignity to its final resting place, is gray. Your soul, with pieces torn off from it, is gray. This is your world now, you decide. A gray world; where nothing lives so much as it just exists. Where nothing is joyful, as much as it just is. Your world is gray. You are gray. REWIND The sun is shining today, the birds are singing and the throng of people gathered inside this church are cheering and weeping with joy. But none of that registers with you. Right now, you could be in the middle of a war, with bullets flashing inches from your face, and you wouldn’t have noticed. Right now, you could be in the darkest part of space, floating in an endless void, and you would never have realized it. Because today, at this moment, you’re busy kissing the most beautiful woman in the world. Because amidst it all, the songs and tears and hoots and hollers, your ears still ring with those two beautiful words, I do. FAST-FORWARD It is silent; a silence bred of sterile, white walls and thorny knots of dread. You sit there, clinging vainly to your wife, your love; as if such physical contact can protect the two of you from the news you both know is coming. The door opens, and the news walks in, this time in the form of a haggard young doctor, lines of sadness and worry running across his face as he watches you both in equal parts cold precision and crushing guilt. And then he says the words you knew would come. And you feel your love stiffen in dawning sorrow. And you hear your world crumble apart. And though you don’t see it, outside in the sky, the sun hides itself behind a thunderhead, as if in grief. FAST-FORWARD There are five things in the graveyard at this moment: - A shining new tombstone. - A broken mess of poorly-drawn lines. - A mangled, wretched howl. - God. - You. The tombstone is in front of you, and the howl is coming from the mess of lines, and the mess of lines is cursing God, and you are that mess of lines, the howl is the verdict that God should be that mess of lines instead, because what has He done in His divine might to stop that new tombstone from being put into the ground, and what has He done to help you from becoming these poorly-drawn lines, and why should He be allowed to sit atop His lofty heights and watch you wallow in your own vain howls of rage, and why is she gone? Because that’s the question, isn’t it? Why? Why? REWIND You never thought that tea could taste so good right now, even if its bitterness make your uvula dance in your throat and force your stomach to keep the vile mixture down. Of course, you never had such a good reason to have this drink before; the most beautiful woman in the world has never asked you to join her before. You would’ve been a fool not to accept the invitation, but now that you’re here, it dawns on you just how outclassed you are. This must be some kind of cosmic joke; a hope spot to make the moment when fate yanks the rug out from under you all the more painful. Why in the world would a woman like that ask a guy like you over? But nothing bad happens, nothing goes wrong. God doesn’t pull out the rug, the celestial laugh track doesn’t open up. Everything’s good, except for the tea. But that’s a small price to pay. REWIND The light is dusty and yellow in the kitchen; grief and worry clog the room like unwanted house guests. You and your love sit across from each other, across the dining room table, across three feet of air, across the plains of eternity. Resignation has fallen over both of you like tailored cloaks, and the only thing to do now is to ask that final question, so daunting in its simplicity. What next? FAST-FORWARD You turn your head and realize that the most wonderful little girl in the world, your little girl, is asking if you’d like to play tea party. You pause, because that’s been your signature reaction these past weeks, and then say that yes, you’d love to play tea party with her. She grins, and you realize that that’s the first grin you’ve seen in a while. And then you grin back, knowing that this is the first time that you’ve grinned in a while. You follow your most wonderful little girl away, looking forward to some tea, imaginary or otherwise. And though you don’t see it, outside in the sky, the sun peeks back out from behind the clouds. PAUSE PLAY
  6. Thirty-Eight The man ruffled through the pages of the progress report before him with a sigh. They were getting somewhere, sure, but they weren’t doing it quickly enough. How long could this keep up before the funding was cut? His investors had sunk millions, billions of dollars into this project. How much more would it take? One of the pages came into focus. A summary of the past several tests, it seemed. Subject Thirty: No repair whatsoever. Unidentified cause. Subject Thirty-One: Repairs mostly successful but incomplete. Unable to continue. Subject Thirty-Two: Subject rejected completed repairs. Subject Thirty-Three: Uncontrolled growth far beyond intended scope of repairs. Unidentified cause. Subject Thirty-Four: Repairs completed and accepted. Synchronization of mind unsuccessful. Subject Thirty-Five: Repairs completed and accepted. Mind synchronized momentarily and desynchronized again. Further efforts unsuccessful. Subject Thirty-Six: Repairs completed and accepted. Synchronization of mind unsuccessful. Subject Thirty-Seven: Repairs completed and accepted. Synchronization of mind unsuccessful. Unsuccessful, unsuccessful, unsuccessful. Always unsuccessful. Perhaps what they were trying to do was impossible, then. Perhaps Subject Thirty-Five’s synchronization was simply an anomaly, just a glitch in the computers that never really happened. Perhaps no one really ever could– A sharp rap on the door interrupted his thoughts. He called the visitor in. One of the scientists. One with little authority, sent as a courier. “Sir, we’re beginning testing on Subject Thirty-Eight. Would you like to–” “No,” he interrupted. He sighed. “Sorry, I don’t mean to be…” He shook his head. “Just go on without me.” The scientist nodded and was gone. The man sat in silence for a few moments before his curiosity overtook his discouragement. With a tap of the spacebar he brought his computer to life and a few clicks later was remotely observing the laboratory three floors below. Subject Thirty-Eight lay unmoving on a table at the center of the room. A tangled mass of tubes and cords seemed to cover every inch of his skin, each connected to one of two dozen machines of various purposes. An ugly, gaping red hole adorned the man’s chest. Dead. Researchers swarmed the room, checking and re-checking each machine, each dial, each screen and interface for any possible errors. So it continued for a several minutes until suddenly, slightly to the man’s surprise, the movement halted completely. One of the head researches had spoken: the time for preparation was finished. He strode to a computer in the corner of the room and typed a command. All eyes were fixed intently on Subject Thirty-Eight’s lifeless form. The man pressed a button on his computer and a window appeared displaying the contents of the screen in the laboratory. Not much of interest; just a flashing string of commands flying across the screen far too quickly for the eye to follow. The man’s eyes flitted back to the image of Subject Thirty-Eight. A remarkable transformation was underway. As he watched, the exposed organs within Subject Thirty-Eight’s chest began to repair themselves, knitted back together by some unseen hand. His muscles and skin then did the same, inch by inch reforming and closing the wound. His complexion began to change, color returning to his pallid face as artificial life coursed through his veins. And then nothing. He sighed. This was where the others had stopped, too, ever since Thirty-Four. He pressed the Alt key and aimed his finger for F4. But for the briefest of moments, he hesitated, his eyes dropping back to Subject Thirty-Eight. A fist clenched. Unclenched. Clenched. Unclenched. And then a pair of eyes snapped open, darting around the room. Arms reached back, pushing what should have been a corpse into a seated position. Subject Thirty-Eight was alive.
  7. Island boy you are, running and digging in the sand nothing to check your spirit but the bashing swells of the waves; Each summer you’re growing Just as the heat warms the land. Island boy you are, the same face each season, Despite the costume changes, dishwasher to cook to ride attendant and more with your many labor ranges. Island boy you are, running into that sunset photograph, chasing a view of a sunset in the distance, Sleeping in a chair on the beach after, hand clutching a map. Island boy free, gazing into the sky, Incompetent in here or there but that’s alright, Right now you are living the dream, and watching the tide. Island boy you are, in that final race through the sand, One last sweeping gaze through the island Now moved into the city One step closer to a man. **** Little poem I had to write for a class, thought it fit in with FFFC 6: "Rebirth"
  8. Hope of Rebirth SHE AWOKE IN PAIN on the cold, hard stone floor. Deep gashes had been ripped into her skin all across her arms and body. They were healing, half black and half crimson, but she knew they would never heal completely. It wouldn’t be long before she tore them open again. Black scorch marks riddled her skin, permanent, unable to be washed away—water was a poison, burning like fire would a normal human. She brushed her pale-blond hair behind her ears and sat up slowly, looking around her to see the prison-like abode where she slept each night. Atop a cliff; huge, jagged rocks surrounding her, stone floor, no ceiling. It was her punishment to herself, unwilling to live anywhere in comfort. And for just a brief moment, just like every morning, she had hope. Hope that somehow she had been changed. Had been healed. Was no longer the monster that she had been the day before. But then, just like every morning, that hope was extinguished as it began to happen. She began to change. Her back became rough and thick, the skin drying and cracking as it turned scarlet. Gigantic, leathery wings grew from her back and extended until each one could wrap around her body two- or three-fold, ending with two spiked points. Her fingers became callused and sharp; curved, cone-shaped nails protruded from the ends, over an inch long each. Her feet followed suit, becoming more animalistic with claws to match her hands. The blood of the scars seemed to brighten as her whole skin became tougher and paler. She was still recognizably human, yet bestial. She shrieked and bellowed, trying to fight the transformation. But she couldn’t. She clawed at her body, drawing fresh blood and reopening old scabs. Her stomach growled and with a haunting fear she knew: it was time to feed. Her legs moved as if under their own power and she leaped into the air, burgundy wings extending. Below her valleys and forests covered the ground with a dirt road dividing them. She flew to the forest, keeping close to the tree tops. Her nostrils flared and she knew human flesh was nearby. Her body shot down toward the scent until finally she saw a young boy in the distance among the trees, playing in a river by himself, his parents nowhere to be seen. She clawed at herself and used all of her strength to stop, but the beast inside her was relentless. Fangs extended from her canines, the scent of blood close. She tried to push them back into her skull but instead drew blood from her thumbs. Desperate to stop, she clawed at herself again and again, ripping her stomach open, trying anything to stop herself from destroying the young life. But the fire inside her quickly healed the lacerations and staunched the bleeding; her clawing had only caused more pain—failed to stop her flight toward her next victim. She landed on the forest frondescence and ripped into his flesh, burning his body to a crisp before devouring it, all the time fighting her internal demon. When it was finished she quickly took off again, in control, slamming into several trees and branches in a crazed dash before flying above the tree line and back to her home before she could catch the scent of another. What have I done? The pained thought that went through her mind day after day, mistake after mistake. But today was worse. Today she had gone too far, past the point of return. She landed on the cold stone and sat down, secluded from civilization, hidden behind her haven of large rocks. Her arms wrapped around her knees, and her blond hair fell into her face. Her wings were still expanded, wrapped around her like a shield and a blanket as her nails and teeth receded into their normal appearance. A tear formed in the pit of her azure eye, stinging as the salty liquid seeped into the deep gash around her eyelids. As she thought about what she had done, more tears fell. They burned into her flesh, steam rising from her cheeks in their path, but she allowed them to fall, keeping her arms where they were. She allowed the pain, knowing she deserved it—and much worse. She wished to die, to end the cruelty that she inflicted upon innocent victims. Today had been the worst—a child. What have I done? she repeated in her mind again as even more tears fell. She hugged herself tighter, weeping bitterly, and awaited the new dawn when she knew she would hunt—and kill—again. But she couldn’t let that happen. She had to hope that one day, somehow, she might become reborn—no longer the monster, but a beautiful creature. She opened her eyes slowly, looking off the cliff and into the sky. She needed help. She had to stop. Become reborn. Live under the oppression of this ailment no longer. But can I? she wondered. I have to. ~ :: ~ A/N: Written for the "Rebirth" Fortnightly Flash Fiction Contest, this story was inspired by the amazing drawing Kaida (careful, the topic is unfortunately dead) by the extraordinary Ezorov. Many thanks to Katie for allowing me to use that as inspiration. I really enjoyed writing this character, and I hope to write more about her. But for now, enjoy this piece that stands on its own--comments and constructive criticisms are welcome.
  9. Bionicle: The Shadows Inside By Ignacis I feel fine and I can smileBut I feel the anger coming. It's underneath I don't know whyIt's always overflowing. It's a constant fight deep insideAnd I want to forget it.I confess I’m always afraid,Always ashamed of what's inside me.I confess I’m always afraid,Always ashamed of what's inside my head.REDInnocents and InstinctCopyright 2009 The Toa Nuva, accompanied by their leader Toa Mata Tahu, struggled against their chain bonds as the Shadowed One examined each of them with the utmost care. Their Kanohi had been stripped from them, as well as their weapons. Even their Toa Symbols had been taken from their makeshift villages in the newly formed Matoran settlement on Spherus Magna. It had started off as any other day, but without warning, the Dark Hunters had appeared, taken the Toa Nuva and Tahu captive and brought them to their newly built fortress on the outskirts of Bara Magna. After they had been beaten and battered by a variety of the Shadow One's cronies, and each of the Toa was strapped to a large pillar in the fortress's dungeon, where the Shadowed One now paced, as if waiting for someone to arrive. "You are probably wondering why I brought you here," he said, stopping in front of Tahu. "Well, if you must know, I am here to become the next great hero of this world." "What in the name of Karzanhi are you talking about?" exclaimed Gali, lifting her head high enough to meet the Shadowed One's gaze. "Silence you pathetic waste of Protodermis!" said the Dark Hunter Amphibax, who was standing next to Gali. There was a loud thud as the Dark Hunter punched Gali in the stomach, causing her to lost her breath and keel over, help up only by her bonds. The Shadowed One snickered. "Foolish Toa. You think your insults phase me? I have your powers, your precious Kanohi and even your Toa Symbols. I could incinerate you right now, but fortunately for you, I have bigger plans than just destroying the most powerful Toa in the universe." His back was to them now, and Tahu could see the Shadowed One's third leg. He then turn to gaze at the Toa out of the corner of his eye, an evil sneer across his face. "You see, I am the one who is going to destroy Teridax one and for all, but I will need your 'help' to do so." "Then why did you feel the need to kidnap us? And what makes you think Makuta is still alive?" asked Tahu, struggling against his bonds. "It's quite simple, Toa of Embers. Teridax cannot die unless all of his antidermis is destroyed," said the Shadowed One, his voice barely above a whisper. There was a loud bang, followed by a serious of grunts and clang of footsteps on the cold, stone floor of the dungeon. Tahu strained his eyes to see what was causing the commotion, but whatever it was, it was making sure to stay out of a sight. When the footsteps stopped, the grunts increased, as well as the rustle of what sounded like fabric. There was a loud thud, the sound of a small scuffle, and then two Dark Hunters appeared, dragging something behind them. Tahu recognized them as Gladiator and Minion, two of the organization's strongest members. After they slammed and fastened what they were dragging onto a rack of some kind, Minion began to shift and almost pace as if irritated by being in the room. The Shadowed One approached him and spoke softly. "He's here, isn't he?" Minion spoke, in a garbled voice, like he was speaking with a mouth full of water. It chilled Tahu to the core as it echoed eerily in the room, thought it was barley over a whisper. "Yes…he is here…I sense him…all over…like…he is…them!" "Then your usefulness has ended," he said, and blasted Minion with his laser vision. There was an explosion of energy, and the massive Dark Hunter fell to the ground and lay there in a pile, unmoving. The Shadowed One turned around and pointed at the rack. "Remove the shield!" Gladiator nodded and ripped something off the rack, holding it high in the air for all to see. Tahu thought it looked like a Kanohi of some kind, but it was solid protosteel and shapeless, with no slits for eyes or any other notable features on its surface. "Bring him forward," said the Shadowed One, stepping to the side. Gladiator pushed the rack forward into the low light from the various candles that filled the room. Strapped spread eagle to the rack was a Toa with dark silver and white armor. He gasped and coughed as he tried to lift his head up to see his surrounding. Tahu felt helpless as he stared at the battered Toa. As a moan escaped the Toa's mouth, and he gasped under his breathe, his voice almost cracking. "Takua…no…" The Shadowed One rapped his staff three times on the ground, and another Dark Hunter, one called Airwatcher, appeared with a two, small bundles to the Shadowed One's left. He gave one to the Shadowed One, and emptied the contents of the other onto the floor near him. Tahu heard a loud clatter as what seemed like Kanohi of some kind hit the floor, though he could not tell which ones they were in the dim light. The Shadowed One removed the cloth from his bundle, and revealed a golden Kanohi, which lit up the cavern and nearly blinded the Toa as its bright light fell on them. The Shadowed One then placed the Kanohi on Takanuva, which made his body lurch as if he had been electrocuted. The Tahu and the others cried out in utter helplessness as the golden armor of Takanuva, the Toa of Light, now shone in the dimly lit dungeon. The Shadowed One leaned in, his face just inches from Takanuva's mask and spoke to him in a chilling voice. "Now, just as we discussed," he said, pointing to the Toa. "I…can't…I…won't…" he gasped, laying his head back against the rack. "Then I'll make you!" said the Shadowed One. With blinding speed, he grabbed a Kanohi from the ground and slammed it onto Takanuva's face, banging his head against the back of the rack with a loud thud. Takanuva seemed to be filled with energy now, and began to fight against his bonds. The Shadowed One picked up another Kanohi and slammed it on Takanuva's face, causing the Toa of Light to start to glow more brightly, and once again bang his head on the back of the wooden rack. "How long can you hold all this energy, Toa of Light?" cried the Shadowed One, slamming yet another mask onto Takanuva's face. "If you release too much, you'll incinerate all of your fellow Toa. Release too little, and you'll destroy yourself. Is that a gamble you honestly want to take?" He slammed yet another Kanohi onto Takanuva's face, causing him to glow even brighter. As the Shadowed One raised another Kanohi from the ground, Tahu gasped as he caught the mask's outline in the dim light. He's giving him Masks of Elemental Energy! Thought Tahu. But if he isn’t more careful, he's going to knock Takanuva unconscious! Doesn't the Shadowed One realize that he could kill us all if he keeps doing that? The Shadowed One slammed another Kanohi onto the Toa of Light's face, causing the Av-Toa's head to bounce violently off the back of the rack yet again. Even as the leader of the Dark Hunter's raised another Kanohi up, the Toa of Light did not utter a sound of protest or pain. This seem to anger the Shadowed One even more as he screamed at Takanuva, his voice echoing several times over in the large, empty chamber. "Release your powers Toa of Light! Do it now!" The Toa of Light looked up and gazed into the eyes of the Tahu's team. "I'm…sorry,” he whispered, and as his head collapsed back onto the rack, he let out a shout of pain. Tahu closed his eyes as an explosion of light came from Takanuva, and washed over the Toa's bodies. Maybe it was his body shutting down, or his mind blocking it out, but Tahu felt no pain from the light. Instead, he felt like something was coursing through out his body, causing him to writhe and struggle to get away. Then, the pain hit him. It was pain like he had never known before. It was like his very soul was being torn from his body, and then torn in two. Memories flashed before his eyes, blurring and stirring his thoughts into a confusing swarm of consciousness, preventing him from distinguishing reality from his memories. Suddenly, the scattered fragments of his psyche then began to focus on one event. It was fuzzy at first, but eventually stabilized and he could now see a figure before him, black as soot and battling against him, a rusted Kanohi Hau on his face. He fought off several blows before his attacker spoke to him. "Take care, Tahu," said his attacker, his voice crackling like fire. "Lest the fire of your anger blaze out of control." "We'll see how you like my fire now," he said and unleashed a wave of fire that melted the very rock between them. He continued to battle his attacker, matching him blow for blow. Tahu felt like his mind was caught between the past and present, melding into some strange time paradox. Around him, the other Toa were battling versions of themselves, with little success. Then, his memories began to shutter, like his vision was trying to correct itself. There was a sudden blast and he saw Gali's attacker vanish in a cloud storm of fire, only to have his vision shift to the shadowy attackers regrouping to face the Toa as a group. "We can't beat them, they are just too powerful!" exclaimed Gali. His vision shifted again, showing Gali washing away Onua's attacker with a massive flood. As Onua went to attack Lewa's opponent, his vision shifted back to their enemies closing in on them as a group as he had seen before. "They match us move for move, as if they know what we are going to do next!" said Pohatu. Tahu's vision shifted again to see Pohatu suddenly fighting his attacker in the corner of the room. "Guys?" he called breathlessly. "Um, hey- anyone want to give me a hand here?" As Kopaka turned towards the Toa of Stone, Tahu's vision shifted again to see Kopaka and the other standing in a line around him, preparing to attack the Shadow Toa who were closing in on them. "It's because they are us!" said Kopaka, unleashing a snowstorm against their attackers. The Shadow Tahu released a torrent of energy, and Kopaka quickly created a wall of ice all around the Shadow Toa, allowing the Toa Mata to retreat to another section of the cavern while they tried to escape from. "What do you mean, brother?" asked Onua, summoning a massive dome of earth over their attackers as they huddled up, still facing the spot where their attackers were imprisoned. "Remember that Matoran was selling the infected Koli balls to the Matoran? The one Takua told us about?" "Yeah, he disappeared. What does that have to do with these Toa we are fighting now?" asked Pohatu, adding another wall of defense to hold their opponents captive. "Everything! Don't you see? We see the Matoran as faithful servants of Mata Nui, but then why would Ahkmou purposely sell those Koli balls to the Matoran?" said Kopaka. The Toa looked at him perplexed, but then Gali seemed to understand. "It is because we all have the choice to do great good or great evil," said Gali. "What is to stop us from now from ending this battle by offering our service to the Makuta? Nothing but our free will, and our heartfelt destiny to reawaken Mata Nui. It is our choices that make us Toa Heroes, instead of tyrants like Makuta." An explosion rocked the room, sending ice, earth and stone flying through the air. The Toa each summoned the power of their Kanohi Hau's, and shielded themselves from the onslaught of debris. As the Shadow Toa emerged from a cloud of dust, Lewa jumped in front of the other Toa and crouched into a battle ready stance. "Well, this has been a great deep-thought conversation, brothers," said Lewa, unleashing a blast of air at their attackers. "But how does that help us stop those things from making us Rahi-bones?" Tahu thought about Lewa's words carefully as he summoned a wall of fire to help impede their steady march towards his team. He thought about how he had nearly lost control of his anger not long after he had landed on the shores of Mata Nui and how tempting it had been to give into his anger and unleash all of his power on that beach, and even the world. It had made him realized just how close he came to giving into his inner darkness, even though he fought for justice and freedom of his Matoran friends. Tahu knew what he had to do and looked around at his fellow Toa. "If those things truly are reflections of us," he said, preparing his sword. "Then perhaps it's time we had a heartlight to heartlight talk with ourselves!" The others understood and readied their weapons as well. Giving a battle cry, Tahu charged, and the other Toa followed suit, yelling at the top of their lungs. The Shadow Toa charged as well, and the two forces met in the middle of the chamber. Locking weapons with his attacker, Tahu pressed his mask up to his shadow version's mask. "So, you say we are one in the same, monster?" "Of course I am you, foolish Toa! Do you finally see the truth?" "Yes I do, and it is time we see how alike we really are!" With a sudden burst of strength, Tahu broke free from his attacker and slammed his body into his Shadow self. As the being seemed to disperse into the air, he found himself engulfed in pain as the Shadow Tahu began to swirl and mass of shadow energy around him. To his left and right, his fellow Toa were also crying out as their enemies were covering them in a whirling mass of darkness. As the darkness continued to whirl around them, the voice of his enemy filled his head, and seemed to break apart as if being cut off by another voice trying to communicate with him as well. "This is not the end, Toa! I shall return!" Tahu suddenly felt his head fly back and he gazed up at the cavern's ceiling, as the dark mass seemed to enter his body from his mouth. As the dark mass seemed to fill his body, his vision once again began flash back and forth between his current battle and the images of the Toa destroying the other's Toa's shadow doubles with their various elemental attacks. Then the world began to swirl, almost blending together in a chaotic mixture of past and present, fact and fiction and light and darkness. With a final convulsion, Tahu found himself gasping for air and staring up at the ceiling of a dark room, pinned to a massive pillar by metallic bonds. As the Toa Nuva came out of their daze, they all looked up to see the Shadowed One getting into a battle stance and shouting at a large, greenish mass that was now floating in the middle of the chamber. "Get his body ready! He won't last long without something to house him!" "What is the meaning of this? What is going on?" said a deep, raspy voice in Tahu's head. He knew that voice. It was the voice of Makuta Teridax communicating through telepathy. The voice made even Tahu cringe, and he now knew what the greenish cloud must be. It was the last remaining portion of Teridax's antidermis, which had housed itself inside the bodies of the Toa Nuva, like they had taken him hostage. Our souls must have kept Makuta pinned down inside of us, knowing what great evil he would have committed should he have escaped! Thought Tahu, as he stared at the swirling cloud above them. But why is the Shadowed One giving him a body? He will only grow stronger if he finds something to house his spirit! "I have freed you from your Toa captures to finish what we started on Metru Nui over 1,000 years ago, Teridax! And today, you will not be able to escape!" "Foolish, Shadowed One. You claim to the all knowing leader of a powerful organization, but you do not realize how clueless you really are!" "What do you mean? I was the one who discovered the full layout of your plan to take over the universe! Did you really think I would not consider you would have a backup plan in case you failed even after your greatest victory? Surely even you cannot be so headstrong you would have an oversight like that? No, I know you have schemes within schemes and plans within plans so that even if you fail, you still keep yourself five steps ahead of your enemies! Well, I have learned from your treachery and I did some scheming of my own! And now, I will be the one who will finally destroy you, and claim my rightful place as the rightful ruler of this universe!" "Against my knowledge, you are nothing more than a Hoto bug in terms of intelligence, Shadowed One. Which is why I will not fight you today. Instead I will leave you now, and let you rethink your glorious plan." The mass suddenly dove towards the ground, and dissipated into Minion through the small gaps in his indestructible armor plating. The massive Dark Hunter then rose from the ground writhing and squirming as if in massive amounts of pain. After Minion rose to his full height, he writhed for several more seconds, and then suddenly roared in the voice of Teridax, raising a massive clawed hand high into the air. Before he could counter the attack, Teridax struck the Shadowed One with a massive blow to his face. The other Dark Hunters sprang into action to subdue him, but Teridax struck them with a blast of laser vision, combined with his chain lightening power from one hand and sonic power from his other. As the various Dark Hunters collapsed to the ground, Teridax turned and unleashed a similar attack on the Shadowed One that sent him flying through the air and through a nearby wall. When the dust settled, Makuta had vanished from view leaving Tahu and his fellow Toa chained to the wall. As the Shadowed One began to stir and recover from the massive blast, Tahu suddenly felt himself being freed. He turned to see Takanuva, using small beams of light to break the Toa's bonds. As soon as he was free, Tahu helped free his fellow Toa. The two Toa worked quickly and as soon as Kopaka's bonds were destroyed, they ran up the flight of stairs that lead out of the dungeon toward the main level of the fortress. As Tahu collected his Kanohi and weapons from a room just to the left of the stairs, he turned and unleashed a torrent of fire at the doorway, blocking any pursuit from the Dark Hunters. The Toa continued to run out of the Dark Hunter's fortress, battling its various members as they went. When they finally reached the exit, the Toa hijacked several of the Hunter's vehicles from the fortresses courtyard and took off towards the Matoran settlement.
