It's not like regions are going to pop up in areas already occupied by other regions.

Read the bio on Angnalat again. Sometimes they can

Well, the problem with creating a map is incoming regions could theoretically push other regions aside. We can get a starting map but I'd imagine the general positioning of the different locations is going to change drastically by the end.

Now if we could just come to an agreement and start roleplaying.

Name: Flight Lieutenant William Anthony Adams

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Age: 24

Universe of Origin: Earth

Appearance: William isn't very tall or muscularly built. He has very short brown hair and green eyes. He can almost always be seen wearing a standard navy-blue RAF uniform with a patch designating his rank on the shoulder, and occasionally a helmet and goggles.

Equipment: William carries an M1911 and at least two magazines of .45 ACP ammunition with him at all times, and insists on wearing a parachute even when he isn't flying a plane.

Abilities: None beyond those of a human of his build and health.

Skills: Reasonable marksmanship, though he isn’t nearly as accurate as a soldier trained for ground-based combat. He is a skilled pilot, but is by no means an aerial ace. He was somewhat famous among his squadron for his ability to figure out how to operate new and unfamiliar vehicles quickly.

Weaknesses: He has little training in combat outside the cockpit of an airplane, and as such, he can be easily overpowered when he isn’t in the air.

Bio: Ever since he was a child, William Adams wanted to be a pilot. He lived in a very rural area in the southern UK, not far from which was a farm owned by his uncle James. When he was sixteen, he started learning to pilot James’ cropduster and found that he was surprisingly good at it. Then, not long after he turned 20, World War II broke out and Will enlisted in the Royal Air Force, quickly picking up the skills necessary to pilot a number of aerial vehicles--his favorite being the Supermarine Spitfire.

After he proved himself a more-than-competent pilot on his first mission, he was sent to be stationed in the stretch of land that would eventually become a part of the Collision, where he continued flying missions until he suddenly found himself flying through an airspace teeming with balloon-operated airships and over a landscape dotted with steam-powered factories.

Name: Tara of the Charred Mountains

Gender: Female

Species: Phoenix

Age: Unknown, possibly thousands of years if one considers her previous incarnations

Universe of Origin: Omniax

Appearance: In her human form, Tara appears to be in her early twenties, with vibrant red-orange hair that falls halfway down her back. Her features are somewhat angular, evoking the appearance of her true form. She typically wears a grey tank top and jeans that taper out at the ankles. She prefers not to wear anything on her feet unless absolutely necessary.

In her Phoenix form, she is covered in a layer of very colorful orange, yellow, and red feathers that reflect light in a way that creates the illusion that she is perpetually aflame. Her build is overall reminiscent of a crane, though she is much larger--when standing as upright as possible, she is just over eight feet tall with a wingspan of approximately seventeen feet.

Equipment: None.

Abilities: In human form, she has the ability to control heat, though the word “control” is used loosely, as her powers are easily affected by her emotions. She can generate temperatures sufficient to ignite most flammable substances, though it takes a great amount of concentration/emotion and she has no control over the fire once it has been lit. In addition, she can extend her true form’s wings, though it is much easier for her to fly as a fully-fledged Phoenix. In her true form, she can produce small jets of flame from her beak and exert a limited amount of control over that fire, and her feathers are resistant to fire (though not fireproof).

Finally, when she dies, her body burns away and a new phoenix can be reborn from the ashes, though the process takes a long, long time (potentially centuries depending on the severity of her injuries upon death) and the ashes must be cared for and kept as intact and together as possible, and the new phoenix will be an entirely different being from its previous incarnation.

Skills: She can empathize and sympathize with others very well, and in general tries to be the kindest person she can be.

Weaknesses: She is a pacifist by nature, and regrets hurting any living creature, sentient or otherwise. Her emotions have a profound effect on her powers, and they can be manipulated easily due to her caring nature.

Bio: Tara is the latest incarnation of a phoenix that has been living for a long, long time, though little is known about her previous lives. She was raised in a small town in an area known as the Charred Mountains with the rest of her “flock,” but once she reached a certain age, they decided to allow her to go off on her own and live by herself. Not long after that, the Collision took Omniax, and rather than panicking like most of her world’s inhabitants, she sees this as an excellent opportunity to explore and meet new people.

I've had some ideas floating around in my head for a second character, but I'm trying to figure out a few things. I mean it would have the benefit of offering me a bit more to be doing at any given time, but I'm not sure if it's too soon to introduce a new character. Additionally I've also been thinking about making the character in question a doctor and I'm not sure if that would be too repetitive.

I'm wondering if maybe before I set anything in stone it would be okay for me to get some second opinions about the character. I could even fill out a character form containing every idea I currently have and I guess if I don't like the end result I don't have to use them. Also last time I tried introducing a new primary character (albeit under different circumstances, since my first primary character was in a coma at the time), I went and threw down some ideas without thinking them through properly and... well... just ask any of my colleagues from Dino Attack RPG about Standard Agent Trigger. I'd rather not have a repeat of that if you get my meaning.

If you wanted an opinion on a character, I'm pretty sure any number of people (Well, I say any number, but I don't think we quite have enough players for that to be accurate. :P) would be willing to offer an opinion.Actually, I have more time on my hands than I really need, so if you did decide to get an opinion, you can feel free to ask over PM.

Okay, that would be very helpful. I'm a little nervous but maybe if I were to fill out a form with what I do have so far that would be a good place to start.

Name: Captain Irina Narys*
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Age: 29
Universe of Origin: Terra
Appearance: Tall, thin, dark hair, typically dressed in military clothes.
Equipment: Basic medical tools.
Abilities:
Skills: Medicinal
Weaknesses: Combat.
Bio:
Okay. Here's a start to the idea. Basically I was thinking of writing a sort of Combat Medic, but I'm not quite sure what the political situation is like in Terra. I know there's a lot of tension going on but not necessarily a full-out war.
* Bonus points if you can spot the reference in the name.

Seems ironic that a combat medic would have getting into combat as their weakness. :P

-Toa Levacius Zehvor :flagusa:

Well, I was thinking along the lines that her combat skills were limited, like she'd theoretically be able to defend herself if she was attacked, but she's not exactly going to be leading the troops into battle. Now I'm glad I asked for an opinion because you pointed out a mistake.

A character with Valkyrie armor. How predictable of me. ;)
Name: Severian
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Age: Unknown
Universe of Origin: Terra
Appearance: Severian is never seen without his Valkyrie armor, though it is distinctly and incredibly customized, practically unrecognizable as something of its kind to the uninformed. The defining feature, however, remains: its wings are practically untouched. This particular version of the armor is black, with lines and specks of green light throughout. Quite beefed up in the chest, it retains a level of sleekness uncommon to many Valkyrie suits modified for better protection. He wears a helmet that hides his face, the only features of which are two green lights which allow him vision of his immediate surroundings. The arms of this suit are rather bulky towards the wrist due to stored equipment.
Underneath the suit, he isn't exactly a normal man. With a military haircut, his built form almost looks identical to all other soldiers. However, on the inside, his many, many brain implants make his head more of a machine than a cranium. The work of the implants is evidenced by a jagged scar on the side of his head.
Equipment:
-Many implants in his head take away much of his emotion, giving him a more calculative and analytical personality.
-His suit features flight capabilities, as well two guns on his forearms a shot-gun like weapon rests on his shoulder (accompanied by a noise compressor on his ears to protect his eardrums) and finally, a utility belt that features a grappling hook, a few smoke and tear gas bombs, and money for rations and such.
-His helmet allows for night-vision and an aiming system.
Abilities: No latent supernatural abilities.
Skills: With former military experience, he's a veritable strategic genius. His aim is quite good, even without his helmet, and his ability to psychoanalyze others is considerable.
Weaknesses:
-His implants, due to an otherwise non-harmful pressure on the nervous system, make him somewhat more susceptible to pain than normal, even inside the suit.
-The suit itself, and all of its weapons, are prone to complete shutdown when exposed to bodies of water, as well as a sufficiently powerful electric shock.
-Separated from the suit, he has no outstanding powers, save for military ability.
-His implants to the brain took away much of what people would call "humanity" or in other words ability to think like a person very well. While he isn't a robot exactly, the fact that he's a cyborg can limit him at times, as well as severely alienate others.
-Insomnia was induced at the time of implants, and he can only rest at certain times, and under certain conditions. For this reason, he must take injections to keep from constantly being fatigued. A side-effect of this injection is it's tendency to make him crash when the energy runs out. If he's separated from his injections, his insomnia will become much more evident.
Bio: As a military lieutenant in Terra's army, he lived a fairly good life. Since many were afraid to attack the technological giant Terra is, he hardly saw much action. However, he still felt the need to outsource and have several implants created by a shady organization. Predictably, these implants did not make him a "genius" as promised, but rather deprived him of much of his emotions. He was discharged for these illegal dealings, but continued to try and serve his faction as a vigilante. He stole a Valkyrie suit and modified to his specifications. As insomnia became more of a problem, he realized he had to redeem himself and regain his humanity.

That actually seems like quite an interesting character. The constant conflict between the programming of his implants and what little remains of his humanity could make for some very good drama.

That reminds me, I was going to take another shot at my second character here, let's see:

Name: Captain Irina Narys*
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Age: 29
Universe of Origin: Terra
Appearance: Tall, thin, dark hair often tied back, typically dressed in military camoflauge
Equipment: Basic medical tools; small pistol
Abilities:
Skills: As a doctor, she can treat many different kinds of wounds. She is also capable of defending herself if necessary.
Weaknesses:
Bio:
Okay, I'm trying to figure out what sort of weaknesses this character would have. I was thinking something about her combat skills being limited depending on the circumstances (fighting one person in self-defence vs. attacking several people, for example). I don't know what people have to say about that. I'll also need to figure out a bio.
Also, does it seem to repetitive for my second character to also be a doctor?

You could expand on her skills as a medical practitioner. Is she a well-seasoned, highly-respected doctor? Or is she a rookie to the field, fresh out of med school? Why is she a captain? What does "basic tools" consist of? Why does she only carry one weapon? Details are endless.

You could expand on her as a person. What important events led her to where she is now? How did she become a doctor? Why? Has she had any combat training to make her ability to defend herself a viable one? Does she have any mental weaknesses? Maybe a physical one? Where does she live, and how does travel?

And you could definitely expand on her appearance. What color skin does she have? What color are her eyes? Is she pretty, or ugly? Some of those things I neglected to put in because his suit is what he most commonly looks like, but here, I think it would be very informative.

Yes, all very good questions.

Why is she a captain?

I was going on the ranking systems actually used in the military. It's common for medical specialists to be given officer status, Captain being the rank often assigned to doctors. If that's not actually how the army works in Terra I can change it, though. I was also under the impression that, assuming a combat medic is even armed (which they may not be in some cases), it's typically something small for the purposes of self-defence, as their primary responsibility is looking after the wounded.

I had been thinking about making her a seasoned doctor but now that you mention it I'd have an easier time writing her as a rookie, and it would distance her more from the more experienced Dr. Millstone, which would be a good thing.

@Atton: Yes, real world rankings are largely applicable here. Terra's ranks are most closely based on NATO, but there are some differences to be found. It's doubtful that anyone would ever get in depth enough for those differences to become pertinent, however. :P

@KNI: Assuming that the suit does not amplify physical abilities, as that would push it over what I can allow, approved. I will however be keeping a close eye on that psychoanalysis skill, though. Strategic genius as well. Being good at them is fine, but there are limits not only to what can realistically be learned or guessed, but also what one would be able to think of in a short span of time. And seeing as there was an entire unit in my forensics class on psychology, I have a reasonable idea of what those limits are. :P

If I think something is borderline unrealistic, I'll run it past you before posting. And no, as long as the original Valkyrie suit doesn't boost physical capability, neither does this.

Well, there haven't exactly been enough VS users in-game to accurately determine whether or not that's a baseline trick. :P So I'll consider that a "No".

EDIT:Also, I bring glad tidings. Though it took a while, and much mental pain on my part, I have finally figured out the layout of the world. I'm not going to create a visual map, both because I would be horrible at it and because it would be rendered invalid pretty soon anyway, but I will provide a detailed explanation, starting with the Dominion of Britain, because it was the simplest to work out.

The Dominion of Britain is situated to the east, a lone stretch of land separated from the mainland by a wide channel of water. Said channel, whether you go south or north, will eventually empty into the northern ocean that forms Earth, Omniax, Terra, and Wesdifen's coasts. Angnalat is on the eastern side of the British isle, though its visible portion mostly amounts to a few spires. Now, moving west, this channel borders Erde and Earth on their eastern sides. Earth is to the north, and it borders both the channel, and the northern ocean. Tianxia is situated just to the west, separated from Earth by a small river that feeds down and enters into the river that separates Erde and Earth, before emptying into the channel. Terra is just to the west of Erde and just to the south of Tianxia, separated from the former by a large forest, and the latter by a geographical shift, The Tianxia/Terra border lacks any distinct feature, just a shift in terrain.

Wesdifen is just to the south of Erde, separated from it by a large mountain range. If one travels south from Wesdifen's southern coat, you will eventually loop back around to connect to the northern ocean, and by extension, Earth's northern coast. Omniax is an isle situated just north of Tianxia, separated by a small stretch of water in the northern ocean.

And Luciferase is everywhere at once, out of phase with our reality.

Hope that clears things up.

Actually, now that you mention that it may be worth clarifying something for me since I'm considering writing a character from Terra. Is the Valkyrie suit supposed to be standard equipment in the military or is it more like a special type of heavy-duty battle armor that's only given to specific people?

Alright, let's try this again:

Name: Captain Irina Narys*
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Age: 29
Universe of Origin: Terra
Appearance: Caucasian, tall, thin, dark-hair, often tied back
Equipment: A small backpack containing basic medical equipment; bandages, tools for immediate surgery, syringes, etc.; also equipped with a small pistol
Abilities:
Skills: As a doctor, she is trained to deal with various types of wounds.
Weaknesses: Due to inexperience, her combat skills are limited and she is easily panicked, which can affect her performance.
Bio:
So for a biography, I just need something simple. Logically she would have experienced some form of medical training, and if she's in the army than combat training is likely as well (at least as far as learning how to use a gun). I guess it's a question of how she got into the army. I could say she was drafted but I don't know if the army in Terra does that.

To address first the question about the Valkyrie, they are not standard issue, but neither are they strictly exclusive. The rank and file definitely don't have them, they're too costly to produce for them to be standard. But they're not restricted to only a handful of individuals either. Basically, if they've got at least an officer's rank and the capability to pilot one, they could have one. Someone below an officer's rank would have to be quite skilled to possess one, but it's most certainly possible.

As for the question of the draft; in the darkest days of the civil war, it is entirely possible that either side would have resorted to the draft. It was a long, long war, and far more amoral decisions were made on both sides than the draft.

Okay then, so it's not totally unbelievable if my character doesn't wear Valkyrie armor. As for the draft, if they had that during the war than I suppose it's not inconceivable they might still have it immediately afterward. Given the political situation it would make a certain amount of sense for an army to be prepared as a cautionary measure if nothing else.

Okay, so here's a few things I can offer to help you out -

If she was drafted, how did she get to the rank of captain within a few years? It might make a bit more sense if you specified the school she attended to either be a military academy of some sort, or perhaps one with the Terra equivalent of an ROTC program that would make her a reserve officer? I suppose an equivalent to OCS might have placed her into an officer position, but getting to captain in only one year sounds awfully fast.

It might be better if she had a blaster pistol or laser pistol or some kind of non-standard pistol, given the fact that I doubt a regular one would be much help in combat on Terra. Some more high-tech Terran medical equipment might be interesting. Like a gun that heals or something silly like that. Or a band-aid that chemically cauterizes wounds. Cool things like that.

As far as skills, I would think she'd have to be quite physical fit just given the job and position (if you have to run across a field to reach a guy with his arm blown off, you have to run). Also, I would think at least some schooling would have been done on tactical/leadership subjects to give her at least some skill as a battlefield commander.

Appearance could use a bit more detail, but frankly I don't consider it that important. It's just something that's there. The people who actually care about it could help but... :|

Are there any plots open to newcomers currently?

Well, at present there seem to be two major storylines going on, each of them with a different party. One has a group of more fantastical characters, I'm not totally sure what's going on there. The other plot thread centers on a seperate, more down to Earth party currently consisting of three men aboard a steamboat on the ocean between Earth and the Domain of Britain.

EDIT: Now that I'm on a computer instead of an iPhone, I can write something a bit more specific.

So there are two major storylines going on, at least as far as I can tell. One seems to involve a group of more fantastical characters, including Rikor, Tara, and a bunch of others. If I'm not mistaken, they're in one of the more fantastical worlds, I'm thinking they're somewhere between Erde and Terra, but I could be wrong.

The other major plot thread is a less fantastical, featuring a party currently including three down to Earth men: John Davidson, a former soldier from Terra; Dr. Robert Millstone, a surgeon from the Dominion of Britain; and Flight Lieutenant William Anthony Adams, a pilot from Earth. They were leaving from the Dominion to investigate a plague that was spreading through a small village on Earth, but their boat is being attacked by Erde pirates.

FURTHER EDIT: I never got to respond to the previous comments about my new character. I was just going to wait until we got a new post but since nobody's posting I'm just going to have to edit this one.

Well, if I'm not mistaken it's normal for medical professionals to be given officer status by default, and I was under the impression that Captain would be the rank normally assigned to a doctor, but I could change it to lieutenant if you feel that would be more believable.

I'm not entirely sure exactly where to stand here. I'm a bit worried that a blaster pistol would be too cliché, and the idea of a healing gun has also been done before (Team Fortress 2 quickly springs to mind), but the idea of a Band-Aid that cauterizes wounds or at least delays the infection long enough to get proper treatment is an interesting idea and I can sort of see how that might work in the future. I suppose it could also be possible for her to have some gadgets for monitoring certain things like a patient's blood flow or heart rate, or does that sound too much like I'm copying Star Trek?

Submitting another profile. Background Ok'd by Kaithas.

Name: Doctor Ivan Schmidt

Gender: Male

Species: Apparently human

Age: Appears to be in his mid to late thirties, but his real age is unknown

Universe of Origin: Unknown

Appearance: Ivan is broad-shouldered and bulky, though this is more due to fat than muscle. His brown hair is cut short around his head, and a long, scruffy beard adorns his face. He is always seen wearing a white labcoat over a pale blue button-up shirt and khakis, along with a red necktie. His eyes are brown and very wide.

Equipment: A metal tool adorned with various electronics that could be best described as a very high-tech pipe wrench. It can be used as such, though Ivan can also use it to open doors, repair most electronic devices and, in emergencies, bludgeon enemies. It is somewhat similar to John Smith’s own Sonic Screwdriver, and when questioned in regards to this, his answers will vary, though they’ll always have something to do with the wrench being a different version or older model. He also apparently possessed an ID wallet not unlike Smith’s at some point in time, but he claims he lost it.

Abilities: None beyond that of a normal human.

Skills: Very intelligent and knowledgeable, especially in the realm of physics both conventional and theoretical. He isn’t in great shape, but is surprisingly fit considering his bulk. Oh, and he can grill.

Weaknesses: Though he isn’t afraid to use violence, he will resort to any other available option before doing so. He can also be hurt, injured, or killed as easily as any regular human being and has a mild addiction to alcohol.

Bio: Almost nothing is known of Ivan’s past. He is in the same line of work as John Smith, and the two have collaborated in the past. He is currently investigating the Collision, though he hasn’t made any breakthroughs as of late.

I take it this Ivan character is supposed to be some kind of scientist? That could be interesting. It's an interesting choice to make him so mysterious. Does he just not like to talk about his past?

Age: 25
Universe of Origin: Terra
Appearance: Caucasian, tall, thin, dark-hair, often tied back
Equipment: A small backpack containing basic medical equipment. Among other things she has special bandages designed to cauterize wounds or at least delay infection depending on the circumstances*; standard bandages, and tools for immediate surgery. She is also equipped with a small pistol
Abilities: Nothing overtly unusual.
Skills: As a doctor, she is trained to deal with various types of wounds.
Weaknesses: Although she is not incapable of defending herself, due to inexperience her combat skills are limited, and she usually tries to avoid using her gun when neccessary. Her lack of experience also means she is easily panicked.
Bio: Narys attended a prestigious medical school at the age of 20. After completing her studies at the age of 24 she found work at a local hospital before being drafted into the military, during which time she endured year of difficult training to prepare her for combat. * It would depend largely on the nature of the wound. For instance, factors that may affect this include the size of the wound, the time of infection (successfully cauterizing it would probably be more likely in the earlier stages of infection; at later stages this method would be more likely to simply slow it down and additional treatment would be required), or even what caused the infection to begin with.

You know, I don't mean to pry, but I don't think I've ever seen you make any new posts since I started playing. I'd make a remark about PeabodySam's Disease but you probably wouldn't get the joke.

I am completely guilty of this, and it's something I freely acknowledge. Some of it is because there are a few things I'm trying to figure out, some of it is because I've been distracted, other parts because I've been a bit busy, but there really isn't an excuse for it.But it is something that I'm working on remedying.

That sounds like PeabodySam's disease, all right:

PeabodySam's Disease is a rare but often fatal medical condition named after PeabodySam. When a person is infected with PeabodySam's Disease, they may experience side-effects including procrastination, being too busy to do anything, procrastination, writer's block, procrastination, falling off the face of the world for long periods of time, procrastination, gumption traps, and did I mention procrastination? There is no known cure for PeabodySam's Disease. If you think you have PeabodySam's Disease, contact a doctor right away so they may decide you have no 'official' disease and lock you up in an insane asylum. Remember... they're coming to take you away, ha-haa!

Anyway, I guess we'll just have to be patient. At the moment the RPG seems to be a bit overshadowed by a bunch of new roleplaying games.

Part of the issue arose from my own rather too high expectations of the game at launch. Which is a mistake I have made before, and apparently, was not yet wise enough not to make again. :pAdders and I were brewing a plot a short time back, I'll probably be putting that into action within the next few days. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow, depending on how much attention watching my siblings requires this evening.
