Forum Upgrades

Recommended Posts

When I hover my mouse over a user, the little window thing pops up. I'm noticing a grey box with '0' in it. I don't think this was there before. Does it have something to do with the update?

It is also showing up in the corner of everyone's posts.

I used to have a banner here.

But that RPG is dead.

What now?

By the way, is it just me or does each page now read (OFFLINE) BZPower Forums or some variant thereof?

I'd guess it probably is "reputation", since a tab with that name just appeared in everyone's profile. Edited by Chro

I actually think the Reputation feature could be a useful thing to have. Proto only shows what the staff have given, but reputation would allow users to show how other users are helpful and such.

It would also be even more likely to turn into a popularity contest. Proto is a more reliable measure of helpfulness, since we can generally trust the staff not to conspire off-site to raise each other's score, or worse, lower that of a member they just dislike.

We have had internal discussions about using the feature and feel it would likely become a popularity contest instead of a true indication of member's conduct.

Yeah, I knew that would be the reason you didn't have it. Sadly people can't just use features honestly. I think it would be nice if there was a way to have something similar, but also to be used responsibly by the members...

A possibility would be a "Respected Reputation Givers"-team, that's not necessarily Staff but is known to possess a proper sense of justice and the ability to evaluate proper quality, as well as the responsibility to not abuse the power granted to them. Then again, that'd be a whole lot of work for a simple feature, and most, if not all, the qualities such a group should have should be present within Staff anyway. So basically, seems like a whole lot of effort and complications for a rather small addition.
