Chestnut Winged Cuckoo is the clear choice here. The Kahu could have made it into contention but it's really quite hard to make out the details in the picture - love the '01 look on that one, though.

For sheer number of outstanding qualities, I went with the Chestnut Winged Cuckoo. I'll admit, Popeye had me for a minute, and the Purple Martin was very well shaped, as Arp mentioned. However, I couldn't deny that I definitely admired the cuckoo more, and thus my choice.

There are some really well done, larger birds here that I think would clean up at Brickfair with the public. I'm going to go with the Cuckoo, though. Using fewer pieces at a smaller scale gives it a much smoother, believable texture and shapes than the larger entries achieve.

Gosh dang, sorry guys. I need to get myself a better camera, or get someone to teach me how to properly use the ones I have.

I voted for the chestnut Cuckoo. That bird got some style.

The beak was one of the main things that threw me off of the Cuckoo, so I voted for the Purple Martin just to prove that small guys can get votes too, and because I loved the detail, although the head is weird.

Popeye, the Kahu, and the Cuckoo are the most impressive entries in this poll as far as I'm concerned.Popeye easily has the most character of the three, but he is also the least refined. His color blocking feels uneven and the many textures in his design compete with one another. There are some somewhat conspicuous gaps, and he is not the most streamlined. The Cuckoo also has some competing textures, but there are fewer of them by virtue of the Cuckoo being a smaller model. Thus, the Cuckoo has a much stronger economy of design. It is cute and has very well-refined proportions and color blocking. The Kahu is fearsome and brilliantly revamps the original model with its bright spots of color on an otherwise more subdued black body. But like the original model, it is gappy and somewhat less streamlined than the other birds. I feel the Chima wing elements on its head are a somewhat poor design decision, as they are inconsistent with the mechanical textures present elsewhere on the model. Its wings, when outstretched, are rather underwhelming, It seems to go the farthest out of any of the entries when it comes to having an anatomically-realistic wing skeleton, but that comes at the cost of aesthetics. The Cuckoo is my final pick in this poll.
