There are four or five in this poll I considered, but it came down to the Macaw and Ludwig. As much as I love Ludwig, it being so novel and well-constructed, I just had to go with the Macaw. It is both striking and accurate. I hope they both make it to the finals.

I liked the Macaw - the wings are innovative, but just a tad too strange to really work in my mind. Arpy's entry is not only off-the-wall but excellent, and on the front I'm probably most disappointed by the choice of entry picture than anything else. In the end, the micro-scale Russel won out for me. It's really hard to work on that level and get everything so accurate.

Had to go with Ozzy here. It's adorableness took over my mind. #9 was close, with its randomness.

:a: :r: :z: :a: :k: :i:

I got Monster Hunter World on PS4, add me at bmrjw2 if you want

Also I play FFXIV, my main is Anastasia Willow on Exodus but I've got characters on every NA datacenter.

(1. Reminds me of something that will haunt the night. Or day.

(2. Neck just seems too big in my opinion to give me the vote.

(3. Nicely creative and simple.

(4. Not sure if that pic should have been the entry pic. makes the rest of it seem blurred.

(5. Reminds me of Chima. Plus if the white fangs on the head are the eyes, I could not tell if they were.

(6. I want that bird as my pet. It looks ferocious.

(7. Reminds me of the Macaw from Rio, whose name I do not remember.

(8. Cute little bird that I would want it to welcome we when i wake up or come back home.

(9. DINNER! (Sadly there is no smiley face that has a fork and knife in hand.

These reviews are not to offend. If you are, sorry.

It was a tough choice between the macaw and the Cornish game hen, but I had to go with the macaw. After all, while Arpy's entry does indeed look delicious, even a plucked fowl can't compete with the Dead Parrot Routine from Monty Python. And the macaw has great feathers and a solid build.~B~

A lot of creativity in this batch, quite a hard choice to make.

The Macaw immediately popped out among the rest, being colorful, rather realistic, and quite the ingenious build. The Hero Factory decals and slightly blocky legs are unfortunate, but easy to look past.

Russel was also very likable, in agreement with what Sumiki noted about difficulty of such a small scale being surpassed so well. Not to mention it was simply cute. :P

Arpy's Ludwig was a rather unexpected take on the theme, being rather unique and hilarious as an entry to a contest on its own. Past that, it was also just a great build, and not too far off from looking like the real thing.

Even the Jhintro Bird had my interest for a bit. Seems like it would be fitting as a largely robotic animal, and almost seems like it would be appropriate as an actual Bionicle set. Those claws in particular impressed me, not to mention its ability to balance on one foot. :P

All aside, I went with Russel. It's simplicity and excellent design were just too hard for me to not give it credit, regardless of the wonderful build of the Macaw.

Well done, and good luck to all!

There were some great entries here. Ludwig was very original, Razorbeak was very impressive, the Macaw was amazingly realistic and clever, and Ozzy was a great example of small yet detailed and smooth, but the Jhintro bird won my vote for just how visually stunning it is. I'm glad my other near votes are still well represented though.

Top entries in this poll for me are Ozzy, Jhintro, Ludwig, and the Macaw. Choosing between those is a bit of a challenge. Ludwig's the most imaginative spin on the theme, but alas, he's not that impressive when it comes to aesthetics or construction. And since this is a building contest, not a contest of wit, it doesn't really compare to the others where it matters most. The Macaw really cuts to the core of what makes Technic-based action figures so compelling, taking mechanical-looking Technic parts and sculpting the likeness of a living thing. It is also the most direct translation of the prompt to "build a bird". A part of me is uneasy with its construction, though, as it is the most sculptural of the four models and lacks the articulation I would normally expect of a BIONICLE-based creation contest (truly I have never seen a MOC of a bird that has lifelike wings with full articulation, so this is no tarnish on the credibility of the MOCist). On the other hand, it would make perhaps the boldest statement at Brickfair. The Jhintro Bird is fearsome, yet majestic, really mastering the style that characterized later BIONICLE creatures and standing out with its elegant use of specialized parts. If it has any fault it is simply that its colors are not as exciting as some of the other entries, and its sharp-edged aesthetic may be off-putting to some builders.Ozzy is small, simple, elegant, and well-articulated. He is very much the kind of MOC I tend to favor. He is not, however, the most impressive with regard to construction. If this were a contest to create an official-looking Rahi, he would be the clear victor. But I feel a building contest like this is more about artistic triumph, not design practicality. In the end I voted for the macaw. I hope some of the other builders send their entries into Brickfair, as they are impressive in their own right. But the macaw really excels when it comes to fulfilling the design prompt with elegance and style.

Will you marry me, Arpy?

despite that he saw blatant similarity

he struggled to find distinctive moiety

all he found was vulgar superficiality

but he focused it to sharpness

and shared it with the others

it signified his anger and his misery

them and us

Oh man, I really wish the Cornish hen and macaw hadn't ended up in the same poll. But... the macaw is a wonderful creation and I'm definitely giving it my support.~|ET|~
