Requiem IV Personnel Quarters

---> [Gameplay Topic]

---> [Profiles Topic]

This is the Discussion Topic for Voyage of the Requiem IV, and as such will be of incredible use to you as an RPer in delivering posts of OOC-only nature without any difficulty.

This will serve three other purposes. The first is as an archive of what players have done onboard the ship, though it will be rather sparse and generalized to prevent any newcomers from having too much of a meta advantage, while allowing players who go absent for a time to have an idea what is going on within the ship.

The second is character approval. Any characters must be posted here and reviewed and approved before they are approved. Once a character is approved, they must be posted in the profiles topic (named Requiem IV Crew Profile Database).

The third is a glossary of any rules or definitions to them in the way I would see them carried out, in order to help clarify what the rules are in a similar vein to the BZPRPG Rules topic, though quicker and to the point.

While posting in the Discussion Topic, please do your best to remain on-topic whenever possible. Posts that have little to do with the RPG will be allowed in small amounts as long as they are not intrusive to other players (for example, getting in the way of an important discussion or bogging down the topic). Frequently doing this will resort in a reprimand. Also, obey and BZP Rules and RPG Forum Rules as you would normally.

Any personal conflicts must be taken to PM. Any insults made will result in reprimands – do not respond to them, as it will be taken care of.

Rules Addenda & Clarifications

“Can I play this character?”

If you have to ask this question then the answer is no. No, you may not. If you propose the profile, however, the answer may change. There are a few general rules and guidelines you must follow. You can only play your own, original characters. If you character is an expy of some form, then you’re not allowed to play as them either. You must also not play a character that is too overtly powerful. If you think your character is too powerful, than they probably are. If you think I’ll think they’re too powerful, then they definitely are.

If you are planning on making a “perfect” Mary-Sue character of some sort, then you joined the wrong RPG, I’m afraid.

“What is godmoding?”

Everyone should be familiar with the basic forms of godmoding. Autohitting, dodging every attack made against you, controlling another character, random deus ex machina… all of these are forms. However, these are simply the blatantly obvious ones. There are plenty more forms that must be addressed.

 • The setting being sci-fi/horror-fantasy does not immediately mean everything is illogical. Characters will be affected by certain things. The most common form of ignoring this is by dodging every attack, but the opposite is also true. If your character is hit by an attack to some end, then they must behave realistically. If a person is clawed across their mask, their mask power is gone. If your power suit gets damaged, it’s damage. Defying what would kill a normal person is just as bad as not letting it touch you.
 • You have finite energy reserves, and you must always remember that. If you keep performing all sorts of feats with your energy based weapons or with your powers (save for mask powers), then you will eventually run dry. As mask powers require focus to activate any active effects, then that can also put up a drain.
 • Pulling items out of nowhere is a no-no. Minor things that make sense, yes; it’s perfectly plausible that someone may have a screwdriver stuck to their armor somewhere. A sonic screwdriver, on the other hand, is not a probable find. This same applies to just finding a dead body on the ship and taking equipment. If I want you to find equipment on a dead body, I’ll leave you a dead body. The only exception to this is in a plausible circumstance (the dead guy in front of the sealed door to a medical bay having a crowbar; why not?); don’t overdo it.
 • Metagaming is one of the worst forms of godmoding. By doing this, you use information that you as the player know that your character would have no way of knowing.
 • Believe it or not, acting out of character is a form of godmoding. Not actually following stated personality traits or flaws, doing things completely opposite of what your former actions would suggest (especially due to metagame knowledge), this is all a break in the rules.

“What is a character flaw?”

When people develop character personalities, they can do anything ranging from a few lines to a detailed backing. The one thing that everyone should be clear on – I will not accept any characters who don’t have some type of flaw(s) to their personality – ego, lack of remorse, pathological lying, whatever it is. Making a character that is just unnecessarily bad (no redeeming qualities) isn’t allowed either. After all, how were you supposed to get onboard the ship if you were an obvious sociopath? Players must always be willing to play these flaws straight, because if they don’t, then I’ll have to resort to sticking a weakness addendum to the profile, which is useless and pointless, just like the redundancy of saying "useless and pointless."

Requiem IV Activity Archive

The following is an archive of all actions performed onboard the Requiem IV within recent time by present characters.

-> The SPSRD Colony Ship Requiem IV is launched from Spherus Magna to begin its voyage.

-> Crewmembers of satellite vessel the SPSRDS Canary awake without memory to find the ship docked in the larger, derelict Requiem IV. All but one are killed.

-> Other members of the crew begin awakening in the Personnel Deck. The RPG begins.

-> A large group of awakened crew members emerge from stasis at a similar time period to the rest, and attempt to figure out where they are. They are met by one of the Scavengers onboard the ship, who is murdered by a strange creature amidst the deactivation of power in the area.

-> As the power returns, the group finds the creature to have fled. With a slight swell of members, the majority vote to head down the best lit hallway. A few individuals attempt to take charge, but no clear leadership is apparent.

-> Meanwhile, elsewhere in the ship, two more individuals awake in very different circumstances...

-> The large group makes its way to the locker room of the ship and uncovers a number of lost memories due to the personal possessions of their former lives.

-> The rest of the crew to the Canary awakens and meets with the last survivor. They learn that the ship may not be entirely safe - one of the creatures that killed the rest of the crew is still present.

-> Another large group begins forming near the site of the first groups battle.

-> The original group makes their way through an Officers Lift and travel to the area of the ship known as the Training Deck.

-> The second large group makes their way to the same locker room as the first group and start digging up a little more information of their own.

-> A few others begin awakening in the Personnel Deck.

-> Part of the first large group investigate an arena to the sport of Kolhii and discover an overcharged, rogue robot that had gone rampant. The Training Deck is more dangerous than they could have previously believed.

-> The second large group makes the startling discovery that one among them was partially responsible for the disaster that befell the ship, leaving it in its current state, due to a repaired sentry robot. However, the sentry robot suddenly drops of a lack of power as the room begins draining. Something has come for them.

-> The bizarre creature beings harassing the second large group, stirring them into a fright for a while before finally attacking outright and knocking a member unconscious. In the process, it drains elemental power out of her, supercharging itself with electricity before returning to the shadows once more.

-> One of the beings awakening elsewhere in the Personnel Deck finds himself confronted by two mysterious crew members known as 27 and 404, who steal the data chip containing information on the function of the suits and how to perform different jobs onboard the ship.

-> The group onboard the Training Deck regroups after having spread out.

-> 608, a member of the second group and formerly the first, is killed off by the creature in the locker room of the Personnel Deck, which rips him apart. The rest of the group is given the time they need to escape.

-> The Canary group head outside to investigate cries for help, and manage to easily see through another survivors ruse to take their equipment. However, before they can act on it, a massive worm creature bursts from the ground in the Maintenance Deck, on the hunt. It devours the Canary and crushes another ship as the group flee.

-> 27, 404, and 8 meet up with a few others, forming a third (if less pleasant) group in the midst of the Personnel Deck. The Steltian scavenger slain in front of the first group has his body begin shifting before their eyes.

-> The larger group on the Personnel Deck locate a lift that can (hopefully) take them the Science & Medical deck, where they can care for the wounded among them. Otherwise, it may take them to the lesser well-known Engineering Deck.

-> The two separate individuals onboard the ship, in the Science & Medical Deck, take down two (un-suited!) Matoran scientists who were trying to operate on them.

-> The original group onboard the Training Deck decide to change their focus to Hydroponics, and locate a stairwell in order to go up a few levels. 72 points out that this is a diversion from their original goal, so they decide to change focus back to finding the Officers Deck.

-> The large group still on the Personnel Deck attempt to use the lift. However, before it can reach it's destination, it has a break down. The lift falls through the tunnels of the ship and shatters on the ground, stranding the group in the tunnels until they can find a way out.

-> The pair in the Science & Medical deck learn a little more from the Matoran scientists.

Only one such character is allowed per player. Minimum personality profile length of seventy words; minimum total profile length, one-fifty. His eyes and heartlight are colored dark blue. On his left shoulder he has a strange symbol tattooed. This symbol looks like a six lines crossing each other. The lines are very close to the center line at the top.

His power suit is very large and bulky, having lots of armor. For a helmet, it has a dome that exposes all of his head. The power suit is colored white, and has some highlights of a very light blue. These highlights are power related, and glow slightly.
Power Suit: 819's power suit is rather lightly armed. It has two light handguns that he he keeps around his waist. They have two setting: Stun and Kill. They are fired through trigers, and 819 can use them somewhat well. Not exceptionally good or bad, just in the middle. He also has a small device implanted in his hand that shoots out energy beams, like Botar's, that bind and capture a target. The suit has shown him how to use these. The suit has given him knowledge of basic combat training.
Abilities: Tracer Vision: He is able to track down people through energy signatures. The way this works is that a person leaves a trail of energy behind them where they go. 819 can see this trail with his powers. He must activate this ability.

Emergency Cocooning: If he would die or be seriously injured, his body will enter a comatose state and be encased in an energy cocoon which is very hard to break through. In the cocoon, his injuries would heal. He can die if he is killed before he could enter the cocoon. Poisoning, irradiation and mutation cannot be cured by the cocoon, and would most likely kill him. Personality: 819 is very rational and obeying of rules. He has a high sense of morality, and is very kind and caring. Here's a webcomic you might want to check out.

Like a cross between X-men and ghostbusters.

Except everyone is 12.

I played Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition. PM me if you do as well!

Okay, so a few issues/questions/clarifications.

Tracer Vision is a little too generally defined here. The way described as being like an Energy Hound is pretty much impossible for a vision power. Do you mean something that allows you to detect peoples energy signatures within a certain area, perhaps? I will have to rule, though, that this ability would have to be active, and not always on. We don't have DRM on this topic.

A little more detail to the appearance of the power suit might be nice to have. Also, what sort of information does his combat suit provide? Does he actually have any knowledge of how to fight, or has it all been lost? Does he know how to even activate his handguns? You do need to point that stuff out.

Also, the big problem with this profile is the personality. It lacks any kind of real character flaws and is incredibly short; the minimum is fifty words. If you need any help with this, contact me over PM and I can explain a few tips/tricks for broadening character personality and making them more rounded out.

ID Tag:608Gender & Species: Male Toa of IronAppearancetall, but rather stocky. metallic silver armor, with complementary black hues. his heartlight and eyes are liquid blue. his mask is a RauPower Suit: his Power Suit is jet black. his melee weapon are retractable claws, with his primary ranged weapon being wrist-mounted gattling guns that fold into his arms while not in use. it should be noted that his Power Suit is voice controlled, much like J.A.R.V.I.S from Iron Man. Abilities: he can control metal and iron to his will, and his mask power allows him to translate read and spoken languages.]Personality: a bit on the violent side. lifelong battling has made his pity to drop below what would be expected of a Toa. despite this, his self esteem is low, as he believes that there are other people exactly like him, he isn't needed. however, a firm sense of duty is what pretty much keeps him from fading away into the dark, forgotten and unmissed.

For some reason, the version that quoted when I used the quote button has no almost capitalization. The one I actually can see, however, capitalizes everything. No idea what that's for; it's pointless and hard to read.

Could you describe what your character looks like a little more in the appearance? Especially with regards to the power suit itself, which has no mention in that section.

Going full on JARVIS level may not be possible, as none of these power suits come with fully operational AI personalities. The most you can hope for is a voice command, but you're not going to get any sort of response back.

Personality... okay, the part I don't get is the "lifelong battle" section. Remember, all of your characters are amnesiacs, who have no memory of anything that happens before their first post (when they awake from stasis). So that section needs to be dropped. Maybe a little more cleaning up to help the section have a more professional feel could help?

the capitalization is because of some sorta setting in my text. I dunno why it's on, or how to turn it off. the lifelong battle...noted. I wasn't intending it to be full on JARVIS level, I just wanted a comparison. like, it wouldn't talk to you or behave like a living being, but if I said "powersuit, pull up the records of the ship" (it wouldn't have that, just as an example), it would show the records, nothing else.

edit: wait, I found the capitalization thingy. turned it off

Here's a webcomic you might want to check out.

Like a cross between X-men and ghostbusters.

Except everyone is 12.

I played Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition. PM me if you do as well!

It's easy to see that, in a fight, he would be quick on his feet. His body color is primarily blue, with some red mixed in here and there (almost in a patchy manner); one of his eyes is a bright green, and the other is covered over with some form of patch. His suit is pure black, and his helmet was shaped in the form of a Skakdi skull, with especially sharp teeth showing (it is fake, obviously). Power Suit: One notable factor of his suit is the fact that it provides him with a second eye- not literally, of course, but it allows him to see as if he had another eye. As far as his weaponry goes, he has a laser firing mechanism built into the right arm of his suit, and a razor sharp katana that he always keeps at his side.

As far as his suit database goes, it has provided him with information on how to wield his blade, how to use the laser weapon on his arm, and how to use his unique ability of illusion. The suit has given him basic knowledge about the ship, enough to at least get around it, if not solve a problem or two if he came across one. Other than that, he knows pretty much nothing.

Abilities: Outside of his abilities of ice, he has the power to cast powerful and convincing illusions; this is limited to one image/illusion at a time, but is able to be projected to anyone who can see it. Personality: Quite stern, and seldom engages in unnecessary conversation. He's rather curious- mostly due to the fact that he only knows his name, and how to wield a blade- but not to the point of stupidity. While he seems cold and harsh, he would never hesitate to save the life of an innocent, and is rather protective of those who cannot properly defend themselves. As to why that is, he isn't sure- but he is determined to find out, one way or another.

(Hopefully this is alright.. just say if I have to change anything.)

EDIT: Added his suit database knowledge. (Rather limited, but then again, isn't everyone's?)

Alright, since you made the edits, character is approved. Perhaps a bit to much in terms of breaking the fourth wall for my liking, but I'll let it slide.

Put it in the Profiles Topic and you're good to go.

EDIT 2: I almost forgot - make sure to put the information that your suit gives you into the post as well.

EDIT: Woo, looks like you put that post up right before I did Skarloth. Give me a moment...

Alright here it is.

Again, you may wish to put in what knowledge the suit provides him; does he have stored data on how to fight, does he have some sort of records filed away on different poison gases, etc. If you don't know how to use a computer, you can't use a computer, for instance. If you don't know how to project illusions, you'll have to figure that out - and not necessarily at an opportune moment. So on, so forth.

I hope you caught what I edited in - make sure to clarify any information your character possesses from the suit, because other than the basis (speech in your primary language, for example) that's all you know.

Just stick that in and you're good to go.

-Quick Question: Toa can't use their elemental powers while wearing their suits, but can the suits ever be taken off? Will all Toa just be powerless this game? (at least elementally...)

To answer your question - there may be a way to remove suits, but no characters start off the game with that knowledge. They may not particularly want to, either. Going around without your suit in here is about as smart as going into the Battle of Waterloo naked.

While the part about combat is mentioned in abilities, all information your character is aware of at the start due to the information the suit provides you should be mentioned as part of the Power Suit section. Once you've taken care of that, you should be good for approval though.

ID Tag: 913 Gender & Species: Male, Toa of Air  Appearance: 913 is tall and lean, he has green armour with silver highlights, his eyes and heart light are icy blue, he wears a silver Kualsi Power Suit: 913's power suit is lightly armoured, it is built for high mobility, it has an energy bow which can be stored on his back, it also has a visor which can detect nearby heat signatures when turned on. The power suit shows 913 how to use his bow expertly and activate his visor. 913's power suit is mainly coloured black with silver highlights, the suit's visor is coloured deep blue but it turns black when 913 activates it. In addition the power suit gives 913 a basic knowledge of the layout of the ship and how to get around within it.  Abilities: Other than elemental control of air his only power is his teleportation due to his Kualsi  Personality: If you did not know him you might describe 913 as cold, impersonal or grim. In truth he is kind and adventurous but he almost never shows this side of his personality, this is due to the fact that 913 can not watch people die without feeling that their death was his fault, he uses his impersonal personality to keep himself from feeling the pain and regret as he watches one more person die.

Abilities: 196 is a very capable martial artist, something that his suit compliments well. As a Vortixx, he is also a fair hand at machinery and can work his way through a computer system pretty well.

The stuff you put in the suit is what you have from the start. If you don't put any information in your power suit section about knowing how to use them, however, you're not going to use them.

The abilities you have listed should have placed as part of the power suit section as the abilities that the suit provides. Martial arts, machinery knowledge, etc; this information is all stuff that the power suit provides to the wearer, not innate knowledge (as you are an amnesiac). And, of course, the suit would need to provide you with knowledge for your plasma/visor abilities.

Abilities: Other than elemental control of air his only power is his teleportation due to his Kualsi

Personality: 913 is adventurous and curious, although he sometimes tends to be cold to those he does not know.

Why is everyone describing their heartlight color, is that a thing now?

What information does your power suit provide? Does it show 913 how to use his bow? Does it show him how to use his visor ability, how to access his weapon, etc? You may want to detail the appearance of the suit itself a little more; it's sparse.

The personality provides almost zero information. There's almost nothing here, and there needs to be a minimum of fifty words.

Martial arts are more about muscle memory then active knowledge. If you spend long enough on them, it becomes about as innate as knowing how to walk.

If it works like that then you might want to change "Abilities" to "Powers".

Despite what the action movies would like you to think, after you have your memories wiped, you will not mystically retain some sort of martial artistry to your body. If you are referring to the time of movements and demeanor, then that would be better placed in the personality section. The actual techniques would be lost to you unless they were retained. Which they are. By the suit.

Abilities refer to any natural abilities that a species possesses - water breathing, fire resistance, etc. - along with actual powers. Powers would be appropriate at well, but I chose to use Abilities because it's a broader term that also accepts increased agility, strength, etc.

You would forget the individual moves, yeah, but most of the secondary moves rely on muscle memory to follow through. You would not be able to randomly jump kick the other guy.

Anyway, changing changed.

Sorry I didn't get on top of this with the earlier post. Depends entirely on the subject matter of the dream. Recalling past events, people, etc. wouldn't be happening. More bizarre things like swirling color patterns would be allowed, though...

Just a little clarification; most of the stuff isn't so much manuals as it is immediately uploaded to your brain. Also, I'm going to have to give a ban on having an entire map of the ship from the start; maybe a map of the personnel deck level you're on, but that's about it. Even a rough map of the ship would be a bit too useful...

Take care of that and you should be good for approval.

ID Tag: #31415Gender and Species: Male Toa of IronAppearance: The Toa is taller than average, and wears brown and grey armour. His eye-light and heartlight are light green.Power Suit: His Power Suit has the information uplink of a Warrior, allowing #31415 to know melee combat manouveres, how to use anything as a weapon, and how to adapt to fight situations. It fits the contours of the Toa's body. It is mostly gunmetal grey with an odd emblem of a circle with a sector removed on his left side. A scabbard with a sword hangs on it. It also has rudimentary(Present-day level) Night Vision activated at will. The suit area around his hands and head are a see-through substance.Abilities: The Toa wields a Kanohi Hau and has Toa control over Iron.Personality:#31415 is outwardly blunt and practical, and at the same time, able to understand others. He is also capable of adapting to situations. However, he is too hard on himself and does not trust others quickly. Additionally, although he is capable of improvisation quick analytical skills, it does not carry over to many out of combat situations like social contact, so he can only be distrustful to safeguard himself.

Just mention in the abilities section that you have the iron powers, unless something other than the suit is hampering them.

Could you explain exactly what the "warrior" information entails?

The personality section needs to be developed further than it is. It's too short and sparse.

Edited, I hope it's right.

Cut out the 'master of weapons' section from abilities; it's part of the power suits database.

And on that note, I will make a ruling - it would be difficult to imagine anyone having need of knowledge of every weapon, and rather impractical. Especially considering how many devices there could be present. I'll allow basic understanding of how to use almost every basic melee item or object to its best purpose, and any weapon with a rather simple system (pull a trigger), but more complicated items like will-activated Vortixx tech like a Judgment Cannon or bizarre weapon abilities Twilight Blade will not be made apparent. However, while you may not know how to operate said Judgment Cannon, you will be an expert at using it to bash someone over the head, if that's some small comfort.

That could be used to a somewhat comedic effect if everything in the ship wasn't trying to kill you.

So. Cut out the 'master of weapons' from Abilities, edit the word "capablr" into "capable," and you should be approved.

Fixed! Thanks for the reply!

Alright then. You are most certainly approved.

ID Tag: 196 Gender & Species: Male Vortixx Appearance: Average height for his species, 196 has black primary coloring with dark green as a secondary. Slightly more thickly built then most of his species are, though not enough that it might make him look clunky. His suit is pitch black with no reflective surfaces. The entire makeup was designed to allow for maximum mobility while at the same time providing a good deal of protection. The rounded helmet has a polarized faceplate through which only his yellow eyes can be seen. Power Suit: The hands can generate and to a limited extent, control a small amount of plasma. The maximum amount able to be held at one time extends to about three inches around each hand. The suit's visor is also capable of switching to infrared vision. Commands are given by the wearer through mental prompts. Abilities: 196 is a very capable martial artist, something that his suit compliments well. As a Vortixx, he is also a fair hand at machinery and can work his way through a computer system pretty well. Personality: Aloof would probably be the best way to describe the 196, while not lacking in emotions, he certainly has trouble connecting with them. This may make him seem cold hearted to others, something not helped for how Vortixx are known for exactly that. He is also highly observant, noticing things that others might normally miss. When people ask him how he knows something, rather then simply leave them in the dark, he normally explains things to them. -----------------------------------------------------------I was wondering, are the pieces of the suits that we put in there stuff that we start with? Or is do we have to work towards discovering those ones as well.

Abilities: Other than elemental control of air his only power is his teleportation due to his Kualsi  Personality: 913 is adventurous and curious, although he sometimes tends to be cold to those he does not know.

-Toa Levacius Zehvor :flagusa:
Ok, I can definitely work on the personality and detail the suit.Fixed my profile.

Okay, I have made edits to 819. I hope they are sufficient.

How many characters can we have? Just the one?

Do we have any general memories of history? Like knowing about the MU, or anything?

You can have up to three characters. No general memories of history are allowed.

Minor correction; fix the last sentence of the Power Suit section to "The suit shows him how to use these (powers)." Then take the final sentence from Abilities and move it to power suit, since it's part of the general knowledge database the suit provides.

Take care of that and Mr. Flibble says I can approve you.

I have made edits to 913, I hope they are good enough.

No reason to make two posts to tell me about it, mate. Mr. Flibble will get very angry.

Mr. Flibble also says your character is approved, but I have a few more corrections. Before you post it, I think you should probably go through the power suit section and clean it up a little more since it seems a bit off.

I'm going to make a ruling, based on the need for a crystal for power, that you won't start off the game with more than maybe one of the multiple (based on your use of plural) that you need. Powers, even upon discovery, will be quite limited. Rewards may included discovery of further crystals; perhaps in, say, a locker labeled 72 somewhere on the ship...

ID Tag: 113

Gender & Species: Male, Toa of Sonics

Appearance: Shorter than average, light grey armour. 113's eyes and heartlight are maroon.

Powersuit: Equipped with powerful sound generators, an acoustics processor, and sensitive microphones. The suit's database includes programs for the sound generators, most of which have extremely destructive results. The suit's database also includes information on various forms of sabotage and demolition, and the repair of many different devices both electronic and mechanical. The programs detailing destruction are locked, and the suit's AI (That is you, Levacius) has set conditions under which they will be unlocked. The suit is also able to map rooms, even through walls (at a substantially lower resolution) and cancel out noise Additionally, the suit has padded feet and quiet actuators, allowing for quieter movement. The powersuit is matte black. The helmet has 36 microphones, arranged in a ring around it.

Abilities: 113 wears a Kanohi Matatu, and has control over sound, in addition to his naturally sensitive hearing.

Personality: 113 is quiet, observant, and honest. He does his best to keep emotions out of his decisions. He will always be one of the first to try to diffuse a tense situation. 113 tends to speak his mind regardless of what he has to say, and he is not above exploiting what he hears when he is arguing with someone else.

Just to be clear, I'm not going to be allowing anything more than the simplest of these destructive soundwaves (for the use of stunning or distracting) from the get-go. The only thing it'll be capable of shattering is glass.

However, with that early restriction in mind, Mr. Flibble and I say - approved.

Edited again. This is embarrassing. I need to edt so much.

Don't worry about it; it's just part of the process, no matter how much experience you get.

Mr. Flibble and I now agree. You're approved.

You're good for the profiles topic, then.

Oh, and to confirm once more what both Myr and Silvan Haven have said - yes, Mr. Flibble is the handpuppet. Sometimes, he and I have to talk with the King of the Potato People. If you feel that your character is not being properly treated during the course of the RPG, please feel free to speak to the King of the Potato People, for his authority is above mine.
