LEGO 3D Printer

Recommended Posts

More and more, we find, if it exists, there's probably a LEGO version of it. You may have heard of 3D printers--machines that can make objects out of plastic or similar substances from 3D computer models. One individual by the name of Matthew Krueger has constructed a 3D printer made completely from LEGO bricks, entitled "Legobot". Legobot uses candy or glue to make its creations, and unfortunately it is quite limited in what it can do. However, it's quite an interesting creation, and you can see it <a href='http://www.techhive.com/article/2043965/legobot-is-a-3d-printer-made-entirely-from-lego-bricks.html' target='offsite'>here</a>.View the full article

I wonder if you could use this to print custom Kanohi masks with candy...I have been fascinated with 3D printing for a long time, and this is amazing! I never would have thought this was possible.I wonder if there would be any way to control it with something other than a Mindstorms NXT?

Hm.. how tall an object can it print?

Not very. I don't remember reading any specification of exactly how high a printed object can be, only that it was heavily limited in that respect. Still impressive, and I'd like to see how it progresses from here on out.

How well will you die?

I'll be honest, when I saw the title of this story, the part of my brain reserved for unrealistic hopes and dreams really wanted this to be an actual 3D printer manufactured by LEGO.

That would be beyond awesome, but alas, this is not the case. Someday perhaps...
