Name: Erik Slotnik

Appearance: 5’8”, grey eyes, brown hair, slightly curly. Sharp cheekbones and a prominent chin, with a slightly oversized nose.

Age: 28

Power: NormalSkills: Erik is observant, to nearly Sherlock Holmes levels, making deductions that would escape most people. He’s also got a good amount of raw intellect. His offhand knowledge of chemistry can be very useful, and he knows a lot about Materials Science, though that comes in useful more rarely. Erik’s practiced on-and-off with his sword for eight years, and is proficient at it if not masterful.

Weaponry/Equipment: Erik has an Arming Sword, or Hand and A Half Sword, made of entirely typical steel. At his home in Berkeley, he has a modest lab/workshop, which is fairly well equipped for something someone put together in his garage. Erik also has an android smartphone and a pair of Google Glasses.

Faction: Erik is a civilian employee for the ISRE, principally working on research for teleportation.

Personality: Erik is brilliant, and he knows it. He’s also a major flirt. He can be caustic, even rude to people he doesn’t consider proper friends. However, the moment he decides you’re a friend, he becomes very devoted; he’s willing to drop everything and stay up till the early hours of the morning talking to someone he considers a friend to help them solve problems or just keep them entertained when they’re bored.

Bio: Erik’s father invested in networking software in the early 80s, and the family owns a significant chunk of stock in Cisco Networking. The money was enough to send Erik to UC Berkely, where he majored in Materials Science and minored in Chemistry. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 2014 and spent a year building his lab and job hunting before getting his research job with the ISRE.

Name: Mari Slotnik

Appearance: 5’6”, with long black hair and blue eyes(Mari habitually wears contact lenses to make them look purple.) Slim, athletic build. Mari’s right arm is missing from the shoulder down, and was replaced with a bionic arm, which looks like an odd mix of mechanical and skeletal. Mari cuts off the sleeves of most of her clothes, to show off.

Age: 19

Power: Mari’s cybernetic arm is incredibly strong in the finger joints, able to bend thin steel rods. Her elbow joint is stronger than the average man’s, and she can curl 90 pounds easily. Her shoulder joint is no stronger than it would be for any other woman who exercises regularly. The arm is a Titanium/Iridium alloy which can negate mancer abilities with contact. The arm is powered by a pair of lithium-ion batteries that have to be plugged in to charge every 24 hours or so, and Mari keeps two spares in her backpack, along with the charger.

Skills: Mari is a competent welder and machinist. She knows a good deal about robotics and general mechanical principles. She took martial arts classes for six months around a year ago, but hasn’t kept in practice since. She’s also very athletic.

Weaponry/Equipment: Mari’s primary weapon when it comes to a fight is her arm; she’s not that much stronger than the human limit, but her arm’s titanium structure lets her bring more of her strength to bear. Where a human boxer has to be careful about how strong he punches a man’s face(lest he break his fingers or cut his hand on their teeth) Mari’s titanium arm has no such limit. She can punch hard enough to shatter a man’s jaw or crack his skull without regard for her own hand. Mari also has an iPhone; her arm has bluetooth connectivity, though it can’t control the arm, and is instead used for maintenance and other secondary functions.

Faction: None declared; some trust with the ISRE from her brother.

Personality: Mari stands in stark contrast with her brother; where Erik is serious and insulting, she’s friendly and comedic. Mari is snarky, constantly cracking jokes, and makes frequent references to internet culture(especially tumblr) Politically, Mari aligns strongly with the “social justice” crowd, and can be counted on to react to certain topics, especially feminism.

Bio: Mari lost her arm when she was twelve, in a car crash. She spent a year without it, learning to live with her dominant hand gone(though she escaped the psychological problems that can sometimes come with loss of a limb) and received the cybernetic arm when she was thirteen. Her interest in mechanics and robotics was primarily caused by a desire to be able to maintain her arm on her own, without relying on the people who provided it. Mari took a metalshop class for three years, and was on her school robotics team. She wanted to compete in athletic competitions, but was barred because her arm gave her an unfair advantage. Mari has just this summer graduated high school and has just sent in an application for the coming Mars Mission as an Astronaut.

I see no glaring flaws so I'll approve both of them.

Hmm. I see nothing particularly wrong with either profile, though I am curious as to whether Erik, perhaps, is autistic - not necessarily severe autism, but the borderline-obsessive attention to detail, the poorly-developed social skills, the suggestion of rather narrowly-focused interests - in his case, technology, possibly quantum physics, and medieval weaponry - all suggest something of that nature when taken together.

Regardless, both profiles are approved.

On a mostly unrelated note, I will be making my standard request that players give at least some thought to what their character's face looks like.

Name: John Harken

Appearance: 5' 11" and solidly built after hundreds of hours of physical fitness and combat training. He has short brown hair and keen blue eyes that are almost constantly searching for disturbances and signs of trouble. When working John wears a black suit with white undershirt and bullet proof vest, not that the latter two can be seen. Casual wear is normally comprised of jeans and some sort of T-shirt. Both on duty and off he wears a pair of black sports-like shades.

Age: 36

Power: Kinetics, while he tends to redirect kinetic energy more often then create it, he is a generalist in how he uses his powers.

Skills: A fair hand at both MAC style martial arts and with a gun the same as most people in his profession. Also, being a part of the Secret Service, John is a formidable investigator and is well versed at reading people. He can pick a lock with a fair amount of speed

Weaponry/Equipment: 9mm Glock, boot knife and a rather large metal disk. The disk is roughly one foot across and two inches thick at the widest point. Inside is a tungsten wheel encased in a vacuum. His shades are equipped with Google Glass.

Faction/Sympathies: United States Government through the Secret Service.

Personality: A fairly warm and friendly person, even if at times he can be rather quiet. Growing up in a rather high crime area and watching criminals get away with so much has given him a strong sense of justice that, while sometimes gets away from him, has been tempered by his time with the Service.

Bio: John grew up in one of the less well off parts of New York. It wasn't gang territory or anything , but crime was far from uncommon. Several months shy of his seventeenth birthday his mother was shot during a burglary. His father was able to channel the anger, sadness and other emotions that overtook the young Harken into a desire for justice rather then vengeance. Oddly enough, this caused him to decide to join the Secret Service rather then an organization like that FBI that was more well known for solving crimes. The years passed by and John proved himself to be an able agent who the higher ups could count on to get the job done.

Name: August LeMartinAppearance: He's not that tall really, but looks like he should tower over everyone thanks to how gangly he appears. He grows his dark brown hair to shoulder length, and likes growing out his facial hair into a raggedy matching beard. Said beard has a few whiskers of white in it, and he's also going a little grey at the temples. His dark blue eyes stare around from shadows created by his bushy eyebrows an rather wedge-like nose. He is meticulously neat and fastidious about maintaining his appearance.Age: 37Power: August has some form of passive telepathic aura, his thoughts radiating out from him like water spilling out from an overflowing cup. Anyone around him acts as a receiver for these thoughts, and find August's mind and will flowing into them. Put him in a crowd of people and he'll eventually turn them into a hive mind following his orders and his directions. People with training to resist regular telepathy can resist this just the same, but as his talent is always active they have to constantly focus on maintaining their barriers or have them break down under the constant pressureSkills: Rudimentary marksmanship. Some knowledge of psychologyWeaponry/Equipment: 22 GlockFaction: NAPersonality: Kind of a narcissist with a superiority complex, but doesn't see himself as necessarily a bad guy. Won't go out of his way to be cartoonishly evil. First impressions would make him seem rather laid back, but the more you get to know him the more intense he seemsBio: August always wanted to be a policeman, ever since he was a child. There was just something in his nature that clung to order. So he joined when he was old enough, where his rather persuasive nature first became noticed. His trainers just thought he was good with people, they didn't suspect it was the budding powers of a mancer in their midst. So August was hand-picked to take specialised SWAT training as a hostage negotiator. After a few cases where he managed to subconsciously twist the minds of the hostage takers, it clicked that what he had was an actual power and the true potential of his gift kicked in. Now altering minds was no longer something he had to think about it just…happened. Being naturally inclined towards a lawful stance he did not immediately go out and abuse these for his own gain, but genuinely tried to help people with them. Tried to make thieves less likely to steal, tried to make addicts kick the habit, tried to make domestic abusers less likely to beat their spouses…but it never stuck. He could worm into their minds and caress their thoughts into the shape he thought was best whenever he was around them, but the day after? When he was gone and they were back home? His influence wore off. He soon gathered that people needed to be around him constantly, or at least on a regular basis, for the affects to have a lasting impact. This was a major blow. To see all the crime and hate in a world and to think you have the power to do something about it…only to have that hope snatched away from you. He withdrew to a more isolated location, bringing a few of his more…indoctrinated friends with him. In the small population of the community he founded what was essentially a cult, spreading his influence amongst them as a power-base to build from

Name: Jennifer CostelloAppearance: A lithe and sprightly blonde who's very appearance radiates happiness. She has dazzling green eyes, though they're usually hidden behind shades. She could quite accurately be described using the word 'petite'.Age: 21Power: Jenny's power is either the cause of, or directly tied into her synesthesia. Most likely the former, given that she seems to possess all known forms of the condition; written symbols all have their own colours, tastes and personas, sounds are flashes of light like fireworks. While incredible unlikely, this could just be an unusual manifestation, of synesthesia, but her power clearly isn't. She has a form of empathy, where she sees emotions as coloured shapes in the air. People are surrounded by auras like an aerial oil-slick, objects have spools of emotion trailing from them like ribbons connecting them to the people who impressed their feelings upon them, shafts of some kind of latent empathic energy cut through the air like rafters holding the universe together. Her world is such a riot of colour she tends to sunglasses most of the time to try and block some of it out. The power does have some advantages though; she's learnt that, by shifting certain objects around, she can affect the aura of an area, and by extent anyone in that area. It kind of a form of feng shui, where she can fill a whole room with positivity or negativity just by rearranging the objects within itSkills: Well, she can sort paperwork like a demon, which is often a more useful skill than you'd thinkWeaponry/Equipment: Small taser. Just for self-defenceFaction: ISREPersonality: A retiring and quiet person, though not by choice. The effects of her powers mean that socialising and crowds are a nightmare to deal with, veritable explosions of multi-sensory overloading. As such she's more than a little depressed about the whole thing, as being a shut-in, especially when not of your choice, is a very lonely lifestyleBio: Jenny's power has always been evident. All those colours, shapes and tastes were just…there for her, an extra layer of depth to world. But they kept growing, more colours blossoming as her vocabulary expanded, more shapes forcing into her view as her comprehension of the world become more advanced. It started to become physically painful for her to go to certain places, such as those were emotions were known for running high. She didn't take up any higher education after graduating high school, as the teenage hormones of that place had made her feel her brain was trying to explode through the front of her skull and she couldn't take any more of that. She signed up with the ISRE, hoping they might find some way to negate or limit her increasingly overbearing condition, taking a position as a lowly archivist. It might not be particularly glorious, but it keeps her in the quiet, means she doesn't have to deal with too many people, and the paperwork she has to file doesn't carry any emotional baggage like, for example, the books in a library. It gives her a break from her particular palette of pain

Ranks:Rank 1-Jennifer is capable of manipulating one emotion, and must do something substantial with an object that possesses a very strong emotional connection to a person.

Rank 2-Jennifer is capable of blending two emotions together into a third, and must do something significant with an object that possesses a strong emotional connection to a person.

Rank 3-Jennifer is capable of blending three emotions together into a fourth, as well as being able to manipulate two emotional threads at the same time. She must do something of some effort to an object of average emotional connection to a person.

Rank 4-Jennifer is capable of blending four emotions together into a fifth, as well as being able to manipulate two emotional threads at the same time. She must do something of some effort to an object of average emotional connection to a person.

Rank 5-Jennifer is capable of blending five emotions together into a sixth, as well as being able to manipulate three emotional threads at the same time. She must do something of some effort to an object of average emotional connection to a person.

Rank 6-Jennifer is capable of blending six emotions together into a seventh, as well as being able to manipulate three emotional threads at the same time. She must do something of some effort to an object of average emotional connection to a person.

Rank 7-Jennifer is capable of blending seven emotions together into a eighth, as well as being able to manipulate four emotional threads at the same time. She must do something of some effort to an object of average emotional connection to a person.

Silvan - what martial art(s) does he know? I would also like fewer cliches and more specifics in his appearance section - does his body look like a bodybuilder, with little body fat and most muscles highly visible, or are his muscles there more for doing things than for display? Are his eyes just kind of flicking this way and that all the time, or does he just have this sort of vacant, I'm-looking-for-something-that-isn't-you, not-quite-all-here look? Were I taking this seriously, I would then go on to ask after things like the shape of his ears and nose, and other little details that might tell you things about the character - not just about his appearance, but about his history.

Power - How long does it take for him to turn people into mind-puppets? Does it vary according to factors that might vary preparedness to resist a mental invasion (income, mental health, age, intelligence) or is it the same for anyone who doesn't have specific training in the field? Your other character is approved, though I would have liked a teensy bit more description. (2)

Srocky Picktime - I am dissatisfied with the appearance section, and moreso with the Skills. All you said was what he uses his power for - is getting through walls and nabbing the first shiny thing he sees all he's good for? Is he light on his feet or dead clumsy? How's his attention to detail? Attention span? Heck, if you were really making a fictional person, instead of a textual meat-puppet for a game, you might even think about things like how long the characters can hold their breath under water, or any other skills that a normal person (or burglar) might have.

Name: Zach KellerAppearance: Zach is a medium-height (6'1") lean, somewhat muscular, and physically quite normal-looking. His ears are almost elvishly pointed, and his nose is similar in this respect. His mouth, made up of two thin lips, is often tightly closed, though twitchy, always ready to snap out with a comment. By this point in his life, his face is mostly clear of blemish, and has a somewhat glowing aspect to it. With black hair spiked up in the front and wide bright blue- yet often vacant -eyes, he can be found attractive to some, but not to others, naturally. As a whole, there's nothing special about him- after all, he wears a t-shirt and jeans everywhere. The one detail that may make him stand out is his arm tattoo- a stereotypical black Chinese dragon stretching the length of his right arm- right down to designs on his fingers. When he manipulates electricity, they glow a light blue to signify his unification with the energy.Age: 18Power: Zach has the ability to manipulate and eliminate electrical energy. This can extend to magnetism, but he can't control it as such yet. Lightning bolts and small-scale shocks are each under his domain, but the more powerful or more focused the electricity, the harder it is for him to control or even manipulate at all. For instance, he couldn't even begin to manipulate a lightning bolt in the sky, but he can fire small lightning strikes. He couldn't really manipulate the electricity in a building, he but he give someone a static shock from his fingers. Naturally, he is not invulnerable to electricity, and must take special care to wear appropriate equipment when using his abilities. His skill ranking is as follows:Rank 1-Zach is capable of projecting and manipulating 500mA and 100 volts. As well, he can project and manipulate .5 teslas.Rank 2-Zach is capable of projecting and manipulating 750mA and 250 volts. As well, he can project and manipulate 1 tesla.Rank 3-Zach is capable of projecting and manipulating 1 Ampere and 400 volts. As well, he can project and manipulate 1.5 teslas.Rank 4-Zach is capable of projecting and manipulating 1.25 Amperes and 550 volts. As well, he can project and manipulate 2 teslas.Rank 5-Zach is capable of projecting and manipulating 1.5 Amperes and 700 volts. As well, he can project and manipulate 2.5 teslas.Rank 6-Zach is capable of projecting and manipulating 1.75 Amperes and 850 volts. As well, he can project and manipulate 3 teslas.Rank 7-Zach is capable of projecting and manipulating 2 Amperes and 1000 volts. As well, he can project and manipulate 3.5 teslas.Skills: Having taken Taekwondo classes since he was young, he's light on his feet and knows his way around a fight. When it comes to weaponry, however, he's clueless.Weaponry/Equipment: He usually carries a quart of water on him in a backpack so that he can, when he needs to, use it as a conductor. Of course, he also keeps a pair of special gloves than only expose his fingers, and wears a thin, specialized jacket under his normal one that takes the blunt of the energy if his powers backfire. He also carries a Swiss Army Knife as a bit of insurance.Faction/Sympathies: Naturally, he stands with anyone who supports the predicament he's in as a mancer, and is prone to disliking those aggressive towards his kind. However, he often doesn't pay enough attention to care very much until situations literally come up to his doorstep.Personality: By nature, Zach is a loner, and somewhat grouchy. By practice, however, Zach is borderline antisocial, and makes no effort to change this. When in human interaction ( ! ) he will often come across as snarky and sarcastic, let alone disengaged. In reality, he is simply taking in all the details of his conversational partner, and is not putting much effort into actually...conversing. Him talking commonly translates into nodding and making noises of acknowledgment while whoever he's (not really) talking to is speaking to him. He doesn't care much for the feelings of others, but this isn't normally evident in everyday conversation.Bio: Though this may be hard to believe, growing into a significant cog of society is difficult when you don't actually want to talk to anyone. While being a mancer doesn't necessarily mean being persecuted, being "that freak who shocked his dog to death" definitely did. As he (and his widowed mother) kept telling everyone, it was an accident. Not that the school board cared much for this excuse. He was a danger to the public. When he got older, his problems only increased. Getting into fights with anyone who insulted his father ("the drunken fool got what was coming to him") and eventually seriously hurting someone landed him in jail at the age of fifteen. When he got out at eighteen, however, his story truly began.

Shuhei - First off, the appearance section. The "physically average teen in every way possible" bit has to go. Quite apart from it contradicting what is later said about his ears, this tells us nothing about, say, skin tone, or other details, and, well... considering that the favourite food of the average teen is rice (that being, in many parts of the world, a reliable food source that is filling, and therefore desirable over the other meager options), extrapolation of what is actually meant by him being average goes in a direction that is probably not what you meant. As for the dragon, what kind is it? European designs differ from Chinese designs, which differ to some degree from Japanese designs, and so forth. As with an earlier profile, the skills section leaves me asking which martial art he takes. Judo is rather different from Krav Maga, which differs in turn from Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, or Pankration. I'm also rather dubious of the idea that he has no feeling at all about the current geopolitical situation. If that is the case, elaborate on why.

He learned martial arts from the Secret Service and I can't find out what (if any) style they use. I'm not sure why it happens to be important since I'm going to be saying all his moves anyway, but do you want me to just pick a random one?

I dem it approved, Shuhei. Probably a good time to put my profile here for archiving purposes; it's already received the necessary approvals.

Name: Steven Victorson

Appearance: A gaunt and limber fellow, Steven stands at 5’ 8” with a very thin figure; the term beanpole applies very well to him. His face possess what one might expect from a Filipino-German hybrid, smooth facial features accented by gaunt lines around the bones. He has dull blue eyes and gray hair cut at two inches. His skin has a light tan with a clear complexion.

Age: 25.

Power: Steven possesses the gift of electric manipulation, specifically, the ability to project it out from himself. This basically means that his whole body is an electrical generator, capable of outputting whatever amount of current his rank currently allows.

Rank 1-Steven is capable of projecting and manipulating 500mA and 200 volts.Rank 2-Steven is capable of projecting and manipulating 1 Ampere and 400 volts.Rank 3-Steven is capable of projecting and manipulating 1.5 Ampere and 600 volts.Rank 4-Steven is capable of projecting and manipulating 2 Amperes and 800 volts.Rank 5-Steven is capable of projecting and manipulating 2.5 Amperes and 1000 volts.Rank 6-Steven is capable of projecting and manipulating 3 Amperes and 1200 volts.Rank 7-Steven is capable of projecting and manipulating 3.5 Amperes and 1400 volts.

Skills: Steven is a computer programmer and a hacker; his experience in the field comes from a combination of college education and ten plus years of experience. Other than that he is a decent sprinter.

Weaponry/Equipment: Steven has a tablet, a special piece of technology he had custom built for his purposes. It’s form is the same as any other ergonomic ten inch tablet, thin and lightweight, but is approximately three times faster than the best tech on the open market right now. It possesses a 4G connection, and can connect to multiple cellular networks, though obviously he’d prefer to keep to the one he’s currently paying for. Hacking into those things is annoying. In the more direct combat area, Steven possesses a glove that he created to channel his abilities. It consists of conductive fibers interwoven into a standard work glove, with bits and pieces of non-conductive ceramic securely glued onto the tops of the fingers for a bit extra when he punches people. The actual special part of the glove, however, is that it conducts his body’s natural electrical generation, channeling it into a dozen or so metal spikes on the palm and undersides of the fingers. Approximately a millimeter long each, they can penetrate most fabrics and basically act as a taser when he grabs someone’s shoulder.

Faction/Sympathies: He belongs to no one faction, but has sympathies towards NERBA and the work they do.

Personality: A relatively easy going fellow, he holds little particular malice towards the world or anyone else. While he is not apathetic, it takes a good deal of effort to make him care about something not immediately noticeable.

Bio: Steven grew up in a low-class suburban home outside of Indianapolis, spending most of his time out on the streets adventuring in the less reputable parts of town. All the same he, unlike most of his friends, attended school regularly and managed not to get mixed up with too many of the wrong people. It’d continue on normally, until around his thirteenth birthday when his parents got him a computer. It was a sad little thing, running on even sadder dial-up internet. Still, it was the first computer he personally owned and he adored it to no end. He enjoyed it so much that he began to program on it, finding a spare Redhat 11 disk in the school library and getting it to work on there.

He continued to derp around with the computer, but then life threw him a curveball. A few months after his fourteenth birthday his mancer ability manifested itself; it happened during a soccer match, ending with Steven shocking himself into unconsciousness. No one realized this of course, but Steven full well understood what had happened. He would continue to keep it a secret, experimenting with his abilities late at night. He discovered that he could produce electricity, but if it had nowhere to go, it’d simply flow into his body and give him a bad shock. Eventually he made the first version of his electrifying glove, a simple rubber bracelet cut and attached to a copper piece.

He would continue on through school, managing to keep his abilities a secret until his junior year in high school. The reveal came out after one of the more notorious local gangs tried to give him a beating and he was forced to use his abilities to dispatch them. His final year of high school was marked by a large amount of discomfort and vile, with teachers not quite sure what to make of him and the usually hateful teenage crowd doing their thing. Throughout it all he kept working away at his knowledge of programming, it becoming his primary hobby and quite often the only thing he’d do with his free time.

When he graduated from high school he went to a small college some ways away, far enough away that he could leave his former life behind. He integrated rather successfully into its atmosphere, taking a course in computer science. It was here that he was introduced into the hacking scene, something he instantly got involved with. With a firm knowledge of programming already behind him he progressed quickly in the art, doing it often for fun, though rarely with malice in mind. That has begun to change though, with him beginning to view himself as an internet vigilante. He would graduate college with a degree and forty thousand in student loan debt. Now he lives alone in an apartment in Andover, working at his job during the day and spending his nights on the computer, programming video codecs and occasionally hacking into government websites for fun.

The hand-to-hand combat used by the Secret Service is, as far as Doc or I can figure out, similar to the hand-to-hand combat taught in US Army training.

I may not have communicated quite clearly enough when asking about his body type. Someone who got into the shape they're in by lifting weights will look different from someone who stays fit because they chop wood, hike, and maybe occasionally wrestle bears on mountaintops. There are then, of course, different body types - the best body-type for a sprinter is rather different from the best one for a diver, which differs, in turn, from the optimal body-type for a sumo wrestler.

EDIT: Before I forget, Shuhei, your profile is clear for take-off. (2)

Range and time frames were part of the rankings and have since been edited in. As for other factors, I'd say the only one that might allow resistance other than specific training would be intelligence because you could be smart enough to realise your thoughts are being bent out of shape. Other than that I'd assume that since August has a passive ability it can't target the specific parts of a mind that are tired or infirm, his thoughts just flow in like water and treat all minds the same

Go ahead and just edit it, cleaner that way.

Name: Alexander Black
Appearance: Alexander Black is a tall, slim twenty something. His hair is rather long, and is pitch black, like his name. His eyes are of a dark drown coloration. His left arm, from the elbow down, is green and scaled, like a reptile. The fingers of his left arm are long, and end in slight claws. Black usually wears a pair of glasses, which he does not really need to see, but do help his vision.
Age: 23
Power: Black is a mutationist, which is a subset of the Biological category. He is capable of altering the the DNA of cells so that they begin to form a new and unusual structure, however, most of the time his mutations are simple and not strange, such as changing the color of a mouse.
Skills: Black is incredibly smart for his age, having just graduated college and joining the NERBA. He has no combat skills, and cannot fight to save his life. To add to that, his powers do not lend themselves to fighting.
Weaponry/Equipment: Black does not carry any weapons, but he does have a lot of scientific equipment. He normally keeps his equipment in his lab, but very occasionally carries it around.
Faction/Sympathies: NERBA
Personality: Black tends to focus on his work to an obsessive extent, having a singleminded devotion to the task or experiment he is working on, not bothering about much else, as well as becoming cold and not very likeable. When he is not working, he tends to be very friendly and sociable, almost the complete opposite of his work personality. If someone he cares about is in danger, he will fight as hard as he can to save them.
Bio: Black's mother was an immigrant from Russia to the US, while his father's family had been in the States since the 1800's, from any guess. He was very smart growing up, and he had a slight atavism that meant he was not entirely warm blooded and couldn't go out in the cold, but other than those two things, he was normal.
Then, he had a strange dream of himself manipulating the traits of other beings, changing them. He awoke, realizing he had his powers. He began to use his powers to help his research into biology, specifically why Mancers are different than other people, and went into college.
As a test of his power, he began to manipulate his arm, taking advantage of the reptilian atavism in him to change his arm into something different. It took him a rather long time, aided by the fact he was always around himself and the atavism lended itself to having reptilian DNA.
Once he graduated college, he joined the NERBA, wanting to research how Mancers were different. He also has side projects he works on occasionally, and helps in other science based programs of the government.
Other: Black's atavism means his blood is not heated properly, making him somewhere in between warm-blooded and cold-blooded.
What I'm thinking is that the more extreme of a mutation, the longer he has to focus on mutating it. If you want me to remove the reptilian arm, I can do that.

I used to have a banner here.

But that RPG is dead.

His hair is rather long, and is pitch black, like his name.

blrglg

For his power, how much control does he actually have over the mutations? Most mutations tend to cause either nothing or cancer.

having just graduated college and joining the NERBA.

Verb tenses.

Also, 23 is not an unusually young age at which to graduate college, so, you know, we could do without the 'incredibly smart for his age' thing.

What kind of scientific equipment? Heck, what field does he work in, since you never got around to telling us beyond just 'biology'?

Not being fully endothermic does not mean that your blood 'is not heated properly.' It means that your body cannot regulate its own temperature, conforming, instead, to the temperature around it - if it's hot, you're at risk of overheating. If it's cold, you're at risk of getting too cold. It would also probably mean that he'd have trouble getting started in the mornings and would have to lay out in the sun for a while before he has enough energy to do a whole lot, but hey, it's not my character. Maybe you're fine with him not being able to do anything until noon. I do wonder, though, what the explanation is for why he lacks a critical component of mammalian physiology.

I am somewhat queasy about the genetic powers, especially since it's very broad and from what I could tell he could just turn someone's lungs into a pile of cancer cells, if he can turn an entire rat's skin another color. While biomancers are always going be one of those borderline OP things, I'd really prefer a more specific power than "I can manipulate and change the genetic code at a whim," especially since aforementioned code is so complex its doubtful that it'd even be ingrained into him /how/ to change things without just getting a blob of cancer. Something that all mancers have to do is learn their abilities and figure out what does and doesn't work; for biomancers that's always going be more difficult but a healer has a lot easier time speeding up natural processes than your guy would changing something so fundamental and so complex. You could rename him cancerman and it's going be just the same.

So if I'm reading this right, his powers aren't going to be approved?

I'll address Ymper Trymon's questions once this is answered, because if his powers aren't going to approved, I won't use the character.

Not without a lot more specification anyways, and even then I wouldn't be comfortable with it so yeah, might want to look to a new character.

The DNA-altering powers are a bit concerning. They're the building blocks of life and having the power to alter them could easily be abused. I find that when things are left opened-ended one tends to run into problems.

Heh. Remember one time in the X-Men RPG someone somehow got the ability to keep coming back upon death. That was something. He didn't abuse it that much thankfully, but if abused well, he'd eventually have been able to conquer the entire world. Unintended side-effects are nasty.

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people. You are wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.

Eh, I really don't have the time or the energy to participate in this kind of thing. I really want to, but I... don't really want to. Sorry. :/

If anyone wants to make a character with the same ability as Grant would have used, here:

Power: Void manipulation to phase objects in and out of reality. This power temporarily phases a selected area in and out of existence, allowing for anyone to move through the area as if nothing was there. If the object materializes while a subject is inside of it, an equal reaction is applied to both the subject and the object, pushing each other away. The time limitation is unchangable: it will phase back into reality neither sooner nor later than what is listed. Increased density of a material decreases the amount capable of being phased out of reality. For instance, at rank 1, a material with a density of 1,400 kg/m3 will only allow Grant to phase half a cubic meter out.

Rank 1-Grant is capable of phasing one cubic meter of material at 700 kg/m3 for ten seconds.

Rank 2-Grant is capable of phasing three cubic meters of material at 850 kg/m3 for twelve seconds.

Rank 3-Grant is capable of phasing five cubic meters of material at 1,000 kg/m3 for fourteen seconds.

Rank 4-Grant is capable of phasing seven cubic meters of material at 1,150 kg/m3 for sixteen seconds.

Rank 5-Grant is capable of phasing nine cubic meters of material at 1,300 kg/m3 for sixteen seconds.

Rank 6-Grant is capable of phasing eleven cubic meters of material at 1,450 kg/m3 for sixteen seconds.

Rank 7-Grant is capable of phasing thirteen cubic meters of material at 1,600 kg/m3 for sixteen seconds.
