That's Alexios. He did contest with and juggle with the First Crusade, or the zealot 'barbarian horde' as he bluntly put it, and used their surprising arrival to combat the Seljuk Turkish horde in Anatolia (he requested help to the westerners but didn't expect an entire populations-worth), but after some trouble in Antioch occurred the crusaders abandoned their oath to Alexios and headed to Jerusalem; so there is something about the 'Holy Lands' I guess.
