Behold: Tuma.

tuma.png

"He had never been one for deep thoughts, doubts, or reflection. His class within Skrall society – those intended by nature to be leaders and the fiercest of warriors – did not place great value on looking inward or backward. Life was simple: move ahead, conquer, secure what you have taken, and then move on."

My interpretation of Bara Magnans is somewhat looser, as they're mostly organic, and they've been mentioned as wearing cloth along with their armor to serve as insulation and protect them from the heat of the metal itself in the sun. The end result looks like Ali-Baba getting teleported into Mad Max and then deciding to dress like a samurai for no apparent reason.

I also turned the four blades on his back into two banners, kind of like dual-sashimono, even though only soldiers typically wore those, not commanders, to my knowledge. They'd look kind of silly on a regular skrall anyway. Maybe they look silly on Tuma, too. I don't know.

Last art post for a little while.

Really impressive work, just like your Helryx piece. I particularly like that you've managed to work in some small details here and there while still maintaining an overall "simple" feel to it. I feel like you've also struck a good balance of organic and mechanical, and the sashimono are an interesting choice.

Wow, even though your Helryx was amazing, this is EPIC! Your style makes Tuma look indescribably awesome. The new color scheme looks much better than his old one, and you really portrayed power, age, and strength really well. The cloth looks great and I like your interpretation of the set with the flags. Probably the best part about the drawing is the face though. You put in just enough detail and his expression is great.I'm really trying to think of criticism... but I've got nothing. Great job! I look forward to more in the future!

You made Tuma look threatening. Kudos. The render is nicely done (love the style), and he looks like he's wearing armor instead of BEING armor. It's a cool look. Plus the sword is gorgeous.

Thank you. Tried to turn the sword into something resembling a scimitar while keeping it recognizable. This ties in to the Mad Max/Fallout/Arabian Nights look I was going for, which will become more apparent as I draw more Bara Magna stuff, specifically Bone Hunters and maybe some of the vehicles.

Would you be so kind as to draw Tren Krom? That would be SO EPIC!

That'd be kind of hard to do, seeing that he is so massive and there are no canon images.

Well, not really. He's basically just a gelatinous skull with a bunch of spiky tentacles, isn't he?

Boom.

More or less.

sorry bout that, but I really want you to draw either a Baterra or a Kestora cause it would be awesome to see them in this art style.

I agree that a Baterra would be cool... but a Kestora might be difficult since we only have very vague descriptions of them.

There were pictures of them in one of the Young Readers books. Granted, not very detailed ones. I've got a lot that I'm already working on, so neither one is too likely, but I'd like to.

Dude, I think you got him perfectly! I love the sword design, how long does it take you to draw these?

Too bad you didn't draw his shield though, I always liked that peice of Skrall gear.

It depends. I could draw a Matoran or Agori in about 1-3 hours, if I'm properly motivated. Big guys are a bit more complicated.

Boom.

My favourite part would have to be that you have the Skrall flags coming from his back, really showing his dedication to the tribe. I take it they are your interpretation of the Skrall swords on the set's back?

I like your choice of a darker green; the lime green here would have stood out far too much. The darker shade blends nicely into the grey and beige. Props for the minor cracks throughout his armor as well. This is one seasoned warrior!

Yep. In fact, for a while, that's what I thought those blades were supposed to represent.

Ali Baba in Mad Max hehehe. I really like it. :D

And I'm getting the overall feeling that you're actually just working with a mouse seeing more of your art. I mean that's some real hardwork especially in such a big scale. Though I might be wrong here. Only guessing a mouse because it looks like one of those really cool oldscole pixel games. And those detailed little cracks. Yummie.

I must say, I prefer this over your Helryx piece. While I would have expected Tuma to be more bulky, I like this leaner, meaner approach more, perhaps. I also like his helmet and the look of his eyes. It really redeems him from his poor portrayal in The Legend Reborn.

TumaFest didn't hurt either, though.

How well will you die?

Well, he was kind of cool in the serials, but the movie made him lame, as it did most things, IMO. I could have made him a little bulkier, but I've always pictured Skrall as being lean and not overly muscular, but still incredibly strong. Denser muscle, as opposed to more muscle.

Boom.

I love to see Bara Magna artwork. Some tend to forget they are more organic than mechanical and you really captured the tribe-like stature, but grim resolve of Tuma's determination to escape the Baterra. Tuma has been very under-appreciated with his portrayal in Legend Reborn, and I just love what you did with him. The armor on the arms really make it for me along with his "helmet."

Awesome illustration! Great job of translating the set-proportions to the artwork without making it look silly. The neck-area is especially well done and the flags give it a nice Samurai-like feel as well. Good job on making the armor feel used and worn.

But the best part is the face. Very no-nonsense expression and sharp lines on the cheeks and mask to underline that. A very welcome change after his comedic Arnold-like brutish role in the movie. =)
