Ic: "It operates by mixing the stones together with a lubricant. It uses gentle interaction, not traumatic abrasion, to achieve its fine results. And if you thought a moment before opening your mouth, perhaps it would dawn upon you that the the empress and all of us are he gemstones, the empire the lubricant and the potential of war the tumbler.

And unless you can make a good argument to save your own objections, I'd advise you to hold your tongue," he said with a tone as finely edged as his swords.

IC: Ayako and Chiyo

"Excuse me ma'am, but this individual requests an audience with Toroshu Kilanya.

Ayako looked up from her papers and met the visitor's eyes. A one-armed Menti, with a mask that only covered the bottom half of her face; this was most definitely Plangori Chiyo.

"And... Why are you telling me?"

"Eh..."

"No matter; I'll take you to the Toroshu." The datsue rose from her desk and began heading towards the Toroshu's office, gesturing the visitor to follow. With a perfect bow, the sixth daughter of Clan Plangori walked behind, her steps measured and composed. As they walked, Ayako wondered for what possible reason an emissary from Plangori would be here. Ayako reached the office door and knocked. "I don't know if she's in here or not; if not, I guess you could wait outside."

“You are both correct, and both wrong,” Morie said.  She had become tired of the prattling of the guards and had simply ascended herself.  They had wisely deferred to her age; Morie tried not to pull favors, but there were things to be done.

“To create a brilliant gem, we need both a tumblr and a chisel, especially if we do not have the luxury of time.  And it is no simple bauble we need, but a knife.  However, I agree that such things are best done-” she glanced at Rayuke "-not in the full view of the entire court.  Now, I have several times requested a private audience with the chōjō and several times been delayed for no good reason.  Am I allowed?”

IC:

My blood burns.

I feel my grip tighten imperceptibly around the head of my cane, the gesture the only outward indicator of the growing fire. My heart pumps furiously, delivering seething lava to every inch of my body, the heat buried in my chest growing into a bonfire almost hot enough to burn through the steel of my will. This Battlemaster, this First Son, this shining pillar of all the fault I see around me, has committed the one crime I cannot forgive. Insult my clan, insult my honor, insult my skill. Your view does not matter to me, for I know these things better than you.

But never.

Ever.

Try to silence me.

"I thank you for your words, Toroshu. The Chojo is likely in her chambers, if you would speak with her guards, they may permit you entry." A pause, as my attention turns once more to the object of my rage; years ago, I would have defended my honor in an instant, challenging he who angered me to a duel. I learned my error very quickly, and to display my abilities would be to endanger my ability to perform my duties. But I will not permit this slight to go unanswered.

"First Son Korae, I thank you for your advice. That said, of the powers in this realm that could quiet my tongue, you are not among them. Permit me, if you will, to offer some advice of my own. Open your eyes, for if the blind can see better than you, you have failed in your duties. Just this morning a riot was forcibly put down, not half a dozen blocks from here. You have deployed the Hogo and the Ageru to the streets in force, because you know you cannot hope to contain this with platitudes and good intentions."

"On that throne sits a product of the worst kind of obliviousness, and if she is blind, then she is surely being led by the blind. You talk of gemstones and tumblers, seeking to protect what you perceive to be good behind a shield of language flowery than her Highness' dress."

"Take a good, long, hard look at this world, Inokio. If you cannot see the tides, then you will surely drown in them." With one tap of her cane, her gaze shifted to the Executioner beside her. "My apologies, Lord Rayuke. Not for what I have said, but for speaking when it was your place to speak."

Ic: "You're right," Inokio conceded and frowned grimly. The Menti was right—there were tides coming—but again, they were rhythmic, expected, almost traditional by that point. Again, it was pointless to argue the philosophies of the matter to Rayuke or his yapping lapdog, especially then and there, and that tangent would need to be exhumed elsewhere.

"It never was your place to speak your mind, but your opinions have already spoken volumes to me about your knowledge and cognition, and I thank you for the rubbing." He quickly followed: —-"These are the last words I will say to you today."

She was a nuisance to him; perhaps he was seen the same by her, he wondered, but didn't care much about her opinion. She had given it, unsolicited, and proposed nothing new except two-bit rhetoric that expressed discontent with the empress and her advisors, not least of which was Inokio himself. Still, he needed to be strong as well. If he were bent and bowed from his confidence in both his teachings and his pupil then all was forsaken and the sovereign was a puppet. Yumiwa was his pride and joy and she had come so far, way too far to be forsaken and restarted like a slateboard. Despite everything that tugged on Inokio's brain, in his heart he wanted what was best for the young ruler, because if she succeeded there was hope in the empire for peace.

His attention was attached to Rayuke now like a magnet to his sword. Inokio was used to being at the mercy of those infinitely his betters, and this was no different a scenario. Either the executioner would embrace conversation or refuse his pleading. If there was one thing known about the Umbraline patriarch, it was that he never saw things in greyscale.

At least both men had that much in common.

"... these are the last words I will say to you today."

"STOP."

The deep rumbling baritone of my voice could have mistaken for a small thunderclap.

"Everyone. Just... stop."

I found myself in the awkward situation of standing between my shadow and the Battlemaster mentor. The moment I opened my mouth the arguments and vocal back-and-forth ceased instantly, an uncomfortable silence settling on this wing of the Royal Apartments. I rubbed the bridge of my mask in frustration, eventually leaning back to stair at the ceiling, placing my hands on my hips and with enough air to fill three Menti's lungs released a large sigh.

I glanced first at Masayoshi, then at Inokio, my eyes flicking back and forth a few times before eventually settling on the Toroshu. I could deal with my Shadow later, in private, right now the most pressing concern is preventing this day from getting any worse. Not that it really could at this rate.

"Toroshu Morie, please... forgive the offense. My... apologies that you have... wandered into a... family affair," at that statement I glared at Inokio, "made... further complicated by lack... of knowledge and communication. Not every here is... privy to what I... may know, and the... precedence it sets. Or again... lack thereof." This time turned to Masa and glared at her before returning my gaze to clan leader, forcing myself to be humble and gracious as much as I could despite my temperament, willing my mask to be pleasantly neutral. "There is... no reason you cannot... see her. In fact, my Shadow, Masayoshi, will... escort you personally to her quarters. Again... forgive the delay... Toroshu."

Even as I gave a half bow Morie - not nearly as awkward as my massive frame would suggest - I could see my Shadow stiffen out of the corner of my eye. My words were in effect a dismissal, the closest thing to punishment for her that I could do without actually physically doing anything... the mild shame of it would be enough to satisfy me, as well as get her out of this conversation - not to mention move the Toroshu away from these currently private matter and to her delayed request.

Over the years I had found it was best not to keep an elderly woman waiting, especially without good reason.

With a sharp movement to attention and a respectful bow to me Masa gestured to the noble, the two of them quickly disappearing from view. Inwardly I breathed a sigh of relief; this conversation would have gotten nowhere without the separation of the Battlemaster and my bodyguard. Having solved three problems with one solution I was finally able to divert all my attentions to Inokio and his... word paintings. We just stared at each other, after a moment I found myself shaking my head.

"You know better than to... insult honor... in front of her. Not everyone is as... gracious or thick-skinned... as I."

I wasn't smiling, but there was a hint of amusement in my voice.

Ic: A corner of Inokio's lips drooped in distaste momentarily before they straightened into a forced smile. With a dismissive gesture he commanded those loyal Hogo retainers who still obediently stood behind him to return to their posts, not seeing a reason to keep them any longer.

He blinked before he spoke next, still a little flustered from the fact that he was at odds with the royal executioner, as seemingly cordial as it was. Despite his anxiety, he still stood his ground and maintained a courageous stance. "It's funny that you speak of publicly insulting honor after what you pulled today, Rayuke," he stabbed, but dared not goad his counterpart further.

This is why I try stay out of politics... the incessant needles and dagger jabs under the guise of cordiality are enough to drive any sane Menti mad.

"Ah, yes... because I have the... unfortunate advantage of... knowing more than I... have been allowed to share."

I begrudgingly gave Inokio credit. He was courageously standing his ground despite his anxiety... and yes I could see it. I have spent a lifetime reading people, studying their mannerisms and movements, learning what makes a liar, a killer, or a truth-teller. Despite appearances he was a little flustered, and I could not blame him; most did not find themselves at odds with me, let alone continue to verbally spar.

"I... understand where you... come from. I agree my... actions may be... questionable. But I ask... when was... the last time you... saw me lie?"

I let my last two statements sit on him for a moment. Nobody was perfect. If anyone under Zuto-Nui's grace knew that, it was me. Everyone had their dark secrets. Everyone had their vice. Yet most individuals also had a handful of things that was their virtue, a redeeming quality that was above reproach. I may be slow in action as speech, I may be overbearing with Order and Honor, I may even be a bit zealous when it comes to traditionalism, but the one thing I had above reproach was my honesty. I may not understand everything perfectly, but when I DID speak it was truth, or as close as one could come to it. Perhaps it was my nature, or perhaps it was an after effect of using the Rode for the last several centuries, but in any case no one in recent memory had known me to speak falsely.

:So if you combine the two, Inokio, perhaps you will better grasp my actions. This is NOT just another conflict, not a 'civil war' in terms you understand. I admit, you make more than a point with my dealings with Yumiwa earlier, but you seemed to have missed the boat and point she was trying to make to you about there being more going on that what is visible on the surface... not that I can blame you. You poked, and she swung back. Hard:

I let out a long breath of air :So if you're willing to settle down and get off that high-steed of yours I would be more than happy to explain to you the information that you are missing. If afterwards you wish to pass judgement then so be it but I would appreciate it that you would hold off such pointed remarks until you know the whole story. This is, after all, my specialty:

I respected Inokio. He was an acclaimed Battlermaster, a devoted tutor, and a skilled bodyguard. I could not deny that... but that didn't mean I had to like him.

Let's just say he had always rubbed me the wrong way... even if he WAS previously my sister's bodyguard.

.:She swung, but I wasn't impressed.:. Inokio thought back with a mental sigh. .:Your assistant was pure lip no no teeth.:.

"I'm here to talk with you," he stated verbally. It was Rayuke, not his plucky assistant, who had done the deed. He was the target of the teacher's discontent by virtue of his actions and intentions, and Inokio had no desire to discuss the matters with anyone's second. And by the sound of it, Rayuke was open to that discussion. "But a hallway is a place for walking, not important meetings. So," he said, beginning to gingerly lead the way towards the nearest balcony access, "let's walk."

.:Make no mistake—I hate politics, but all my years of service have been immersed with it, if not as a First Son then as the rora's bodyguard and friend:. he began. .:It's inescapable. The rora's retainers aren't just taught about physical procedure concerning assassinations, we're also aware of its meanings and repercussions. Someone powerful enough to have the means wanted dear Yusanora dead, and that means there's more than a simple round of riots on the horizon.

.:I'm a teacher, Rayuke, and an advisor and a soldier. If I didn't sense there are underlying themes to recent events, I would be as ignorant as a fisher tossing her net on land.:. As they stepped out of the hallway and onto a balcony overlooking the Palace and the setting sun sinking on the horizon, alone and away from possible prying eyes and interlopers at last.

Inokio calmly rested his hands on the balustrade and seemed to admire the view, though its beauty did little to rob his mind of its attention on Rayuke's measured actions and careful dialogue. "We both understand the importance the empress has on the fate of the empire. More importantly, we want to help her be the leader she needs to be. For everyone's sake we must have clear and focused heads if we are to advise Her Majesty, so I'm all ears. What did you find out?"

She noticed another Menti present there, one that she hadn't seen before but dressed in Umbraline colors. "Greetings," she spoke out of respect.

"Maybe strength isn't your problem." Kagesu began slowly, crossing her arms almost unconsciously. "Soulsword isn't just a name. When you summon your weapon, you are making a little piece of yourself become manifest in the real world. Your weapon of choice reflects both practicality, and what you think it should look like. If your heart isn't in it, your weapon will falter. Conviction is as important as concentration."

"When you used your power under Arisaka's training, it was under imminent danger. You needed to protect, or else you would have been harmed. Nothing creates conviction like the need to survive, or the desire to protect. You can create the energy, but perhaps you lack the resolve, the desire, to forge it into a weapon." The Eiyu pointed to her chest. "A Soulsword comes from here. So why do you want to create one?"

IC:

I am not surprised.

Rayuke needs to salvage the situation, and to an extent, he needs to teach me a lesson. My pride stings, just a little, but I do not regret what I have said. Only the inconvenience that it may have caused to my charge. I turn to give the Plangori Toroshu a small bow, indicating that she should follow me as I depart back down the hallway.More worrying to me is leaving the Executioner alone. He can handle himself, but it is my duty to ensure his safety. Should harm come to him while I am gone, it will be on my shoulders.

But I cannot worry about that now. My duty is to escort the Toroshu to the Chojo. I tap my cane along the passage in front of me, testing my path. The movement, in truth, is mostly for show. I can 'see' the way, but it is best for those around me to believe that I cannot. To a lesser extent, it is practical. It permits me to test the ground.

"Thank you... for being level-headed."

The compliment was an honest one; I may not be one to lie, but it was not out of the ordinary for me to do the backhanded compliment or to use slighted politeness on occasion if called for it. As much as the Battlemaster may have hated politics I loathed it even more. I took a moment before answering, choosing to lean forward heavily on balustrade, eyes closed, letting the built-up tension of the day release somewhat. It would take more than this single moment to undo my irritability, but at least now I was allowed regain a bit of my composure. Inokio was respectfully looking as the sunset, but I had no doubt he could see the frustration and anxiety on my person as I slowly forced myself to relax. This was not my usual demeanor, not by any means, but everyone had their bad days.

Slowly I breathed out, letting the stiffness in my neck and shoulders melt away, finally opening my eyes to enjoy the sight as well. Sunsets were particularly beautiful this time of year, especially from this vantage point. It... almost gave me some inspiration for my next carving. I gave a small nod.

"Stunning... isn't it."

"Mhm."

It was the classic answer of truthful acknowledgement with the undertone of too-much-on-the-mind. I snorted and frowned slightly.

.:I hope you don't mind if we converse like this; I can relay more accurate information quicker than if I were to speak:.

.:Not at all:.

.:Thank you. Where to begin? The beginning is the best place I suppose. So the Twins... :.

*   *   *

.:So as you can see this is not at all our parent's or even grandparent's conflict:.

The wonder of Ideatalk was the ability to express more complete feelings and knowledge quicker than speech, something that was not lost on me. What would have taken more than an hour took only ten minutes or so, with more detail than words would allow. The crowds, the attempted deception of the twins and their identity, Jasix's unbridled cheekiness, Arsix's untold hatred of the system, his exoneration of the crime... but the biggest part was her feelings; no, their feelings. My mask had given me a glimpse into their world, their views, the ability to see things from the other side of the wall... and it wasn't good. It was as if they didn't care if Jasix was found guilty or innocent - and in all honestly it probably didn't.

.:They have no love for the system, for the way things have been. They, in fact, loathe it more than they do Yumiwa, to the point where they see no reason to be a part of it. It was not said explicitly in my presence, but after centuries of experience I am well versed in reading between the lines: they mean revolution. This is not a power struggle; it is, in fact, the complete opposite. They want nothing to do with the current power system - they want out. Completely out. Either they are going to foster a rebellion the likes never before seen, or more likely, and what I am afraid of... complete secession:.

I paused for a second before continuing .:Until they make their next open and public move I cannot prove this, but I am willing to wager my sword that is their game plan. But the worst of it is that now that I am certain that the Dastana family heads had nothing to do with the murder, I am left at square one. Which means I will need to do the one thing I didn't want to do - start cleaning house from the inside out. Interrogating everyone, questioning even those who I know are steadfastly loyal to us... not what I want to do. Add the general state of disorder these days and the looming threat of clan secession and you get my situation:.

I turned to look at him .:So what does your years of service and experience in the political world advise you about that?:.

Ic: Inokio's immediate reaction was to worriedly tap his fingers together on the opposite hand. He spent a long moment in deep thought, eyes fixated on the sun as though contemplating the oncoming darkness of night. Things were moving at a faster pace than the battle master had ever expected—Yusanora's assassination marked the beginning of action, something Inokio was not wholly prepared to deal with. Worse, things had been happening beyond his realm of control and leaders were dropping like flies. He hoped his time was still a ways away.

He turned and leaned his back on the balustrade, appearing relaxed and gathered as he switched gears from confronting the Executioner to meditating on the future. .:Apathy will be our death,:. he concluded. .:In order to maintain Order in the realm we have to act quickly and prove that we mean well, and while we will use Honor by default we have to be ready to use Power if war truly comes. But in order to make any motions on our own we—the Umbralines and your allies, myself included—have to be a united clan with unified purpose.

.:You want to clean house, interrogate everyone? A good idea, considering the situation... but I wonder how long that will delay the privy council's meeting, even after half of it sailed to Mata Nui. Whatever decisions occur, they have to come from Yumiwa to give strength to her office, and the sooner we council is gathered the sooner she can make an educated decree. And before even that, it seems the two of you have quite a bit of catching up to do.

.:Basically, Rayuke, I advocate for swift movement on all fronts. We have to be cautious, but if we move too slowly the subjects will think we're just  maintaining the status quo, something that seemingly proved fatal for your sister. —Cautious, but visibly steadfast. I'll refrain from saying anything further until the council meets.:.

"That is correct," Chiyo replied, bowing respectfully. "My mother had made arrangements to visit the palace today, so she sent me in her stead."

IC: Minami

Minami mulled over Eldani's words.

:You speak wisdom but... It might be too late already.: Minami had elected to talk through Ideatalk.

It was a grim thought, but this possibility would have to be considered. If Minami were to die within the year, the process of trying to bear an heir would ultimately prove futile and an utter waste of time. Still, this matter would probably have to be very high priority, if only for the future of her bloodline. If need be, Seiryu and Eldani could be delegated the responsibilities of research and military fortification.

:Your advice is sound. I will begin the process of finding a suitor. In the meantime, could you create a list of possible indirect heirs so I could see who would inherit my position were I to die childless?:

It hadn't been long since Zyla had last stood on the beach of Sado; not since the death of the Rora, when she had laid a prayer boat onto the waves around the Archipelago. Daijuno hadn't wanted her to, seeing as her disdain for the entirety of nobility was something which was almost memetic in their house and her apathy towards the traditions of the Dasaka was something which was just as well-known.

But Zyla had come anyway; she had made a paper boat in the fifteen minutes between the end of work and before she went to bed and brought it to this beach. Not in memory of the Rora who had continued the long tradition of looking down on the ranks of Saihoko, but for a woman loved by an entire people, and a mother whose daughters had now been left on their own.

Zyla had felt hopelessly confused that morning, waiting with the rest of her clan for the High Lord Executioner to drag Jasik through the streets of Sado. Waiting for that awful iron sword to come down on his neck. And though it had never happened ... that didn't mean that things were any better than it had been before.

Though Daijuno would probably disagree on that one.

Now she was just as confused, caught navigating a web of marketing in the middle of a civil war. She had no idea what to do; she had wanted to talk to the Ageru before Daijuno left, and now they were the enemy. She had wanted to talk to the Mamoru, but they had fled back to their mines as tensions rose. She had wanted so many things that weren't possible now.

Yeah, well, that's the world for you.

She was sitting on a bluff of stone over the beach, watching two Menti talking by the shore. One was garbed in precious fabrics, the other was an unnaturally pale figure, as though she were a ghost. She hadn't expected company, and she didn't want any trouble right now. She slipped a hand in her bag and drew out her notebook, flipping it open and pretending to be reading it.

OOC: That would be Jinrail and Kaede that she was watching, if either of you were interested in some more company.

"Actually, in my case, not to try and, well, rudely correct you or anything, but the doctors all say that my hearing's pretty bad. Speaking of which I should probably get that ear trumpet-wait, the shopkeeper left Sado during that riot." Kaede sighed again. "Chaotic times we live in."

Kaede then noticed a Dashi sitting down on the beach and flipping through a notebook. :I never knew this section of the beach was a popular spot,: she said over Ideatalk, not wanting to shout but wishing to talk with this third individual. :It doesn't have a bench or anything, or any swimming facilities.:

OOC: Oh, oops.

IC: Kaede

"I didn't mean to... Ah. No, no issue. I was just curious; this is the first time in my life that I've gone down to the beach and it's not very impressive. Was wondering what people usually go down to beaches for, given that it's just a bunch of.... Sand. And cold water."

OOC: No prob. c:

IC:

Zyla gave a silent prayer of thanks to Zuto Nui, then took a careful step towards the duo. No need to look presumptuous; nice and slow, that's the way to go.

"Maybe, but it's one of the last places on Sado that's truly natural," she said, trying a small smile. "Beyond this, one would have to venture all the way to Odaiba or Oki for such a setting."

The mention of my beloved sister like that caused me the stiffen ever so slightly, but it was more of a knee-jerk reaction than any form of anger.

.:You are right. I took too long in my initial investigation, tarried too much before confronting the Twins, and what I have to show for it is riots in the streets and nothing for the murderer. I moved too slowly and therefore bear some of the blame for this current situation. Normally my slow pace is acceptable, but it seems we no longer have that luxury. We need to act swiftly to engage this new threat:.

Even as I "spoke" those words I could not help but notice his fingers twitching. Probably a nervous tick, nothing more, though for some reason my gut was giving me mixed signals about it. Obviously this was distressing news, and though his words wise and rather sage for his age he seemed more... worried than I would expect. Almost... torn about something?

Still, he brought up several good points that needed addressing so I simply filed the observation away. I myself was not in top shape after the days events so I could hardly judge.

.:Speaking of swiftness, I appreciate your approval of cleaning house. Not that I need your approval, of course, but it will make the process significantly easier if you are willing to work with me on this and throw your weight behind it. To that extent I am going to ask you and your staff to be the first ones I interview... I won't order you to do it, not yet at least. If this is kept as voluntary as possible it will make the process that much smoother. Still, I won't be able to move as swift as I need with my current boundaries... I will need my hands unshackled to do so. I hate to say this, but I will need more power and authority to interrogate those I need to in the timeframe we need:.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw it was his turn to stiffen. It took a moment for that movement to happen however as Inokio's mind processed and then dredged up the particular power I was speaking of. In my peripheral vision I saw him turn towards me with wide eyes. I didn't return to look, instead choosing to stand rather stoically, hands clasped behind my back as I gazed out over the Endless Sea as the sky turned from the blue-orange to bright red.

"Yes... the Inquisition." I rumbled quietly, eyes hard. This was something I hoped I would never have to do, but as Inokio had rightfully pointed out events were moving faster than we could possibly hope to control. We would need to move as fast or faster to catch up if we had any hope of countering this new threat. "I... will need permission from... the Dastue that... make up my superiors. To grant... me the power to... activate the office... under their watch."

I paused for a moment, contemplating what I was suggesting .:But first I must speak with my nieces... about all of this. Bring them up to speed. If they agree then I can possibly activate the Inquisition and within a day or so  clear the inner circle but also the privy council... or at least, those that remain here. I know it's a tad unorthodox, but it's the only way to get to the point where the Rora can begin making decisions as quickly as possible, as well as free myself up to pinpoint the person who helped the murderer get so close to... :.

I forced myself not to think about my sister .:I will remain cautious and meticulous as always, but now speed is of the essence. No one will be spared my gaze, not even you. Order, Honor, Power... our virtues will be upheld. Even if I have to go to great lengths to do it:.

I bowed my head, looking at the sprawling palace below. I never thought I would have to use this power, let alone ask for it... but it seemed that I didn't have a choice. My usual methods had failed; it was time to up the ante.

I just hoped my nieces understood.

Ic: .:Gaze upon me, Rayuke,:. Inokio expressed grandiosely and clasped his hands together, then opened them as though they were a book. .:I fit the bill for a person of interest—a wise justice ought to spare no leads.:. He'd never spoken of it, but the thought had crossed his mind that the assassin had to be of a caliber like himself; only a noble could enter the then-chōjo's ball, and only a master of the Menti arts could have the skill to make the kill strike and remain undetected. The person Rayuke needed to look for had to be of status, and Inokio, unfortunately, fit that bill.

Of course, he hadn't done the deed, but that was just a protesting plea until he was cleared. And despite Rayuke's carefully crafted tone and verbiage, the faint tinge of dissatisfaction, if not dislike, was palpable, particularly in the extremely precise and subconscious language of Ideatalk. Something to start conversations with later, he supposed, if Rayuke didn't beat him to the punch and ask questions concerning the matter at his interrogation.

.:I won't stand in your way anymore, not on this matter, anyway. If I could help you further, I would, but I have no staff, I'm just a teacher who happens to be protective of his student. I'll encourage people to comply with you, for what it's worth,:. he said with a shrug. .:If anyone will listen to me is another matter.:.

He shrugged again and sighed long and gently. The larger man correctly took it as Inokio running out of relevant things to say and took his leave, offering the battlemaster a curt bow of respect before saying he'd go speak to his elder niece next and leaving Inokio alone on the balcony.
